Package: amule
Version: 2.1.3-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When tried to start amule, it crashed with the following output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ amule
Initialising aMule
Checking if there is an instance already running...
No other instances are running.
The program 'amule' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
(Details: serial 770 error_code 11 request_code 143 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error()
function.)

It runs perfectly since I installed some time ago, but today when I
tried to run amule it offers me the above output.

Thanks for your work.

Hello,

Today (2008/01/18), with latest Debian 4 (etch) update, some
applications refuse to start because of the xserver-xorg-core
2:1.1.1-21-etch2 package.

I've tested on 3 machine, and the same problem was present.
For example, when I launch rapidsvn, I have the following error:

The program 'rapidsvn' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
 (Details: serial 686 error_code 11 request_code 146 minor_code 5)
 (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Some other application like easyeclipse doesn't work too.
To solve the problem, I've downgraded (force version) to the
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.1.1-21-etch1 package.

Bug#461855: [Fwd: gpsd leap year bug in Debian stable]

2008-01-21 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Package: gpsd
Version: 2.33-4
Severity: serious
Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 Original Message
Subject: gpsd leap year bug in Debian stable
Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2008 13:06:44 +0100
From: Johan Swenker <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
To: Bernd Zeimetz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hello Bernd,

I use gpsd to interface my Rockwell Jupiter TU30-D14 to NTP. New years day
just after 01:00 CET (thus 00:00 UTC) it stopped working.

Just today I found that it is not my hardware, but gpsd which is to blame.
Searching for the problem google directed me to
https://lists.berlios.de/pipermail/gpsd-dev/2008-January/005925.html ,
indicating a problem on new years day.
I downloaded gpsd-2.36, compiled it and ntp works again with my
gps-reciever.
But, ... I really hate it that I had to apt-get delete your gpsd-package.

Thus my request, can you package gpsd-2.36 for Debian stable (or backport
the leapyear fix).

Regards, Johan Swenker

Bug#461856: deluge-torrent: includes code from other sources

2008-01-21 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: deluge-torrent
Version: 0.5.8-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

It seems that deluge-torrent ships its own private copy of the
libtorrent library available at
http://www.rasterbar.com/products/libtorrent/ . This lib should probably
be packaged as a separate package.

Also, it ships python bindings for libtorrent, which are also available
separately, but those seem to be a fork...

It's not possible as there's two libtorrent libraries and both claim the
same soname.
That's why there's no debian package for this one. Moreover deluge's
libtorrent is highly modified and no longer follows libtorrent upstream
developement.

Hello,

I just recompiled 0.09.4-1 from source[1] (taken from archive.debian.net) and
now I see the "grey terminal after hide" bug is not repsroducible for me...
if I have pulldown animation enabled.

Do both of you guys have pulldown animation disabled? Could you enable it and
see if the bug is reproducible with with animation enabled?

I noticed that, but it doesn't sound like a good rationale for include
the code of libtorrent in your package...

Ok, that's a better rationale. ;)

Hi,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * The package depends on XMMS, which is slated to be removed.

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

One possible solution is that this package could be adapted to use an
XMMS alternative. If this is the case, please package the plugin for
the XMMS alternative, and do not depend on XMMS.

If you agree, sending the following commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
should do it (after replacing nn with this bug's number):
severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM:  -- RoM;
thanks

For more information, see
http://wiki.debian.org/ftpmaster_Removals
http://ftp-master.debian.org/removals.txt

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other
issues.

Thank you,
Kumar (on behalf of the QA group)

A complete build log can be found at
http://experimental.debian.net/build.php?arch=amd64&pkg=povray&ver=1:3.6.1-9

A build should not expect anything outside the build dir to be writeable
(except /tmp). Especially, it shouldn't try to install stuff in the
buildds home directory...

Package: kvm
Version: 57+dfsg-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Using current sid kvm package (58+dfsg-1) it doesn't even boot the
debian installer mini.iso however downgrating the package to 57+dfsg-2
solves the problem.

TIA,

Hi!

As XMMS is slated to be removed from Debian, please do not depend on
xmms. Consider using one of the alternate players instead.

Thanks!

Yes this was still on our TODO list :)

CVE-2008-0295[0]:
| Heap-based buffer overflow in modules/access/rtsp/real_sdpplin.c in
| the Xine library, as used in VideoLAN VLC Media Player 0.8.6d and
| earlier, allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of
| service (crash) or execute arbitrary code via long Session Description
| Protocol (SDP) data.

Mitre usually splits different vulnerabilities to different
CVE ids.

Kind regards

Bug#461924: firmware-iwlwifi: WLAN connection dies due to "Microcode SW error"

2008-01-21 Thread Andres Järv
Package: firmware-iwlwifi
Version: 0.9
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I managed to connect to a WiFi network but after about a minute of surfing the
internet connection died. While searching for the cause I stumbled upon such
errors in 'dmesg':

--start dmesg snippet--

--end dmesg snippet--

I have no idea what the problem might be but "microcode SW error" gave me a
hint
towards the firmware.

My laptop has an Intel 3945 chip.

Bug#461774: amule-daemon initd should respect LSB

2008-01-21 Thread Adeodato Simó
Hello alessandro,

> init.d script return 1 if stopping an already stopped / not running

The current amule-daemon init script does that, you can check. If you
can see any mistake about that in the script, please don't hesitate to
write back.

Bug#461236: boost vulnerabilities (was [pkg-boost-commits] r14144 - in boost/trunk: ...)

I agree with you in the principle. As a principle, I do not find that
strange if things actually go differently. Anyway I have not any strong
preference, feel free to modify things at you wish.

Experimental because agreement for unstable has still to be found with
RMs, Boost is again in the middle of a transition. I am hereby asking
RMs their advice.

Bug#461774: amule-daemon initd should respect LSB

The current init script returns 1, and it's wrong.

Evidence that return 1, taken from /etc/init.d/amule-daemon:

do_stop()
{
# Return
# 0 if daemon has been stopped
# 1 if daemon was already stopped
# 2 if daemon could not be stopped
start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --retry="TERM/30/KILL/5" --exec
$DAEMON --user "$AMULED_USER" --chuid "$AMULED_USER"
return "$?"
}

Point where it breaks, aka /var/lib/dpkg/info/amule-daemon.prerm:

#!/bin/sh
set -e
# Automatically added by dh_installinit
if [ -x "/etc/init.d/amule-daemon" ]; then
if [ -x "`which invoke-rc.d 2>/dev/null`" ]; then
invoke-rc.d amule-daemon stop || exit $?
else
/etc/init.d/amule-daemon stop || exit $?
fi
fi
# End automatically added section

Evidence that it breaks:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ LANG=C sudo apt-get remove --purge amule-daemon
[...]
Removing amule-daemon ...
invoke-rc.d: initscript amule-daemon, action "stop" failed.
dpkg: error processing amule-daemon (--purge):

invoke-rc.d: initscript amule-daemon, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 amule-daemon
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Currently, a quick fix is to remove /etc/default/amule-daemon, obviously
it's only a dirty workaround.

do_stop is a function, and those return codes are the return codes of
the *function*. Later, when the function is used, it is used like this:

case "$1" in
  stop)
do_stop
case "$?" in
0 | 1) [ "$VERBOSE" != no ] && log_end_msg 0 ;;

OK, I have no idea why it would do that on your system. Please tell me:

  1. what your /bin/sh points to (bash, dash?)
  2. the debugging output of this:

# /etc/init.d/amule-daemon start
# /etc/init.d/amule-daemon stop
# /bin/sh -x /etc/init.d/amule-daemon stop

Cheers,

ok that was my fault, let's check it deeper (i normally use an amule

Package: libgtk2.0-0
Version: 2.12.5-1
Severity: serious

In this version, libgtk2.0-0 no longer has a versioned dependency on
libgtk2.0-common. That means that you must not symlink
/usr/share/doc/libgtk2.0-0 to libgtk2.0-common, see policy section 12.3.
Similarly, /usr/share/doc/libgtk2.0-bin must not link to libgtk2.0-0.

When you close this bug, don't forget to delete existing symlinks in
your preinst scripts.

When trying to install slapd for the first time, I encounter this error:

Setting up slapd (2.3.39-1) ...

There is a /usr/share/slapd/slapd.conf.gz so perhaps zcat'ing that file
will do the trick.

Package: slapd

Justification: renders package unusable

I use openldap as a centralized authentification storage, used by
several services :
 - apache httpd
 - pam_ldap (then used by sshd)
 - nss_ldap
 - cyrus sasl through saslauthd (then used by postfix and cyrus imapd)
 - egroupware

As the server is open on the internet, I refuse unencrypted connections
to LDAP server by forcing TLS encryption (so through port 389).

I use certificate generated by a local CA (so it is not a self signed
certificate, but a certificated signed by a personnal CA).

Everything works perfectly for 1 days, sometimes longer, and suddenly,
we cannot connect anymore to the LDAP server, a trace gave the following
information :

TLS trace: SSL_connect:SSLv3 read server certificate A
TLS trace: SSL_connect:SSLv3 read server certificate request A
TLS trace: SSL_connect:SSLv3 read server done A
TLS trace: SSL_connect:SSLv3 write client certificate A
TLS trace: SSL_connect:SSLv3 write client key exchange A
TLS trace: SSL_connect:SSLv3 write change cipher spec A
TLS trace: SSL_connect:SSLv3 write finished A
TLS trace: SSL_connect:SSLv3 flush data
TLS trace: SSL3 alert read:fatal:handshake failure
TLS trace: SSL_connect:failed in SSLv3 read finished A
TLS: can't connect.
ldap_perror
ldap_start_tls: Connect error (-11)
additional info: error:14094410:SSL
routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert handshake failure

I speak a while on the openldap mailling list, after several exchanges,
it seems there is a conflict between slapd, libldap-2.3-0 and libldap2.
Indeed, libldap2 is linked againt GNUTLS, while slapd, libldap-2.3-0 are
linked againt OpenSSL ... The answer of the OpenLDAP developers is "It
will be fixed with openldap 2.4.x developed for GNUTLS, and when
Debian's developers will integrate this version".

(if you want to take a look at the discussion on the mailing list, you
can search for subject : "Strange TLS behaviour with slapd 2.3.30 on
Debian Etch" on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list)

During this time, everyday, I need to restart all the services (I don't
know why, crontab doesn't work also when the problems occurs, perhaps a
link with pam/nss), and all the services are no longer available until
that ...

I can provide trace, log, etc ... as requested, I have a lot of
information about the problem, and the problem is reproducible.

Thanks in advance for your attention

Best regards

Denis Sacchet

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was
published for maxdb-7.5.00.

CVE-2008-0244[0]:
| SAP MaxDB 7.6.03 build 007 and earlier allows remote attackers to
| execute arbitrary commands via "&&" and other shell metacharacters in
| exec_sdbinfo and other unspecified commands, which are executed when
| MaxDB invokes cons.exe.

Please check if this also works with the version we ship, I
have no maxdb installation to test.

If you fix this vulnerability please also include the CVE id
in your changelog entry.

Attached is a patch for an NMU that fixes this problem by
moving the temp directory to the users home directory.
I have chosen this method because audacity-data is already
located in the users home directory.

Additionaly I added a NEWS file to alert users who already
installed audacity and thus are already vulnerable.

The patch will be also archived on:
http://people.debian.org/~nion/nmu-diff/audacity-1.3.4-1_1.3.4-1.1.patch

NOTE: this is no patch for the upstream version as it does
not fix this bug for MacOS and Windows users.

Kind regards
Nico

Bug#461984: coreutils: should this package be orphaned?

2008-01-21 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: coreutils
Version: 5.97-5.7
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: proposed-orphan

Hi Michael,

While reviewing some packages with a lot of bugs, coreutils came up as a
package that should probably be orphaned by its maintainer, because:

 * It has 280 open bugs, many of them unanswered, or not properly dealt
   with.
 * You haven't done any upload to unstable since 08/2006. coreutils has
been maintained by NMUs since then.
 * The state of the package is really bad: it has been failing to build
on mips and mipself for nearly a year.
 * You ignored my recent query about the state of the package[1].

I don't think that this is an acceptable state for a "required" package,
and I've heard that some people would be willing to maintain coreutils
as a team, which would probably provide much better results than the
current situation.

Please either fix the issues listed above, orphan your package, or
organize team maintainance for it. If those problems aren't solved in
50 days, I'll orphan coreutils myself, as described in [2], so a team
can take over.

Bug#461988: galago-sharp: should this package be orphaned?

2008-01-21 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: galago-sharp
Version: 0.5.0-2.1
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a package that
should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer, because:

 * 1 RC bug without answer from the maintainer
 * last upload in 03/07. New upstream version available.
 * several unanswered bugs.

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, sending the following commands
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] should do it (after replacing nn with
this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn wnpp
retitle nn O: --
thanks

For more information, see
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-pkgs.en.html#s-archive-manip
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues.

Thank you,

Hi

The following CVE[0] has been issued against audacity.

CVE-2007-6061:

Audacity 1.3.2 creates a temporary directory with a predictable name
without checking for previous existence of that directory, which allows
local users to cause a denial of service (recording deadlock) by
creating the directory before Audacity is run. NOTE: this issue can be
leveraged to delete arbitrary files or directories via a symlink attack.

Please mention the CVE id in your changelog, when you fix this bug.
Thanks for your efforts.

Cheers
Steffen

Fails to extract bioses on 64-bit platforms due to use of evil "long" type.

After appliing this patch, I've tested it and can verify it produces identical
results on the bios I was trying.

I think this is grave enough that it calls for a stable-proposed-updates upload.
The package is completely useless otherwise.

Hi,

Your package is failing to build with the following error:
dh_install -ppostgresql-8.2-plr --sourcedir=debian/tmp --fail-missing
dh_install: debian/tmp/usr/share/doc/postgresql-doc-8.3/contrib/README.plr
exists in debian/tmp/ but is not installed to anywhere
dh_install: debian/tmp/usr/share/postgresql/8.3/contrib/plr.sql exists in
debian/tmp/ but is not installed to anywhere
dh_install: missing files, aborting
make: *** [binary-install/postgresql-8.2-plr] Error 1
dpkg-buildpackage: failure: /usr/bin/fakeroot debian/rules binary-arch gave
error exit status 2

I'm guessing this is because of an arch only build.

autoconf works just fine without automake.
The autoreconf command doesn't, but its functionality isn't necessary
for autoconf.

Yes. I've mailed the maintainer of clisp privately, if this was his
intend and if he can provide a link /usr/lib/clisp, but he didn't answer.

Now, I'm working on packaging the new release of Xindy. But I'm currently
very busy.

Bye, Jörg.

2008-01-21 Thread Barry deFreese

Package: survex
Version: 1.0.39.1-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

We are currently in the process of trying to remove wx2.4 from the
archive, hence the serious severity of this bug. There are 5 packages
packages remaining depending on 2.4 and 3 of those are pending patches
and/or uploads.

I will attempt to try to help create a patch if that helps you at all,
or maybe the 1.1.x versions are getting close to stable for inclusion?

Thank you,

Barry deFreese

Yup, because I talked to Manoj and decided that was the best way to get
the SElinux stuff he wanted into etch.

Well, the version in experimental has built on those archs more recently
than that. Note that a number of bugs are fixed in the experimental
version.

* You ignored my recent query about the state of the package[1].

Well, I don't have any record of that email in my email box.

Hi,

This is the start of attempting to remove wxwindows2.4 and related binaries from the archive. There are currently 5 packages with reverse depends
or build-depends. They are as follows:

ctsim. Maintainer would prefer to wait for wx2.8 or 3.0.
jugglemaster. Patched in games team SVN.
newpki-client. Patch sent to maintainer and on BTS.
trustedqsl. NMU prepared.
survex. Bug filed and I am currently trying to build.

Thank you,

Bug#462021: marked as done (autoconf: autconf must depend on automaken, not just recommend it)

Are you going to depend on (some version of) libtool and gettext, too?
autoreconf may invoke libtoolize and autopoint as well.

FWIW, I don't think this is the right way to go. If autoreconf invokes
aclocal or automake, that means the package being autoreconf'ed depends
on automake, not autoconf.

Cheers,
Ralf

Bug#462047: iceweasel: crash/exploit

2008-01-21 Thread Thomas Koenig
Subject: iceweasel: crash/exploit
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.11-1
Severity: grave
Justification: user security hole
Tags: security

When browsing around web sites that I supposed were harmless
(en.wikipedia.org, some newspaper websites) I got crashes, plus
coredumps. The next morning, I got a message from my ISP that my
system had been used for sending out spam.

After the fact, I installed iceweasel-dgb and ran gdb on the
resulting corefile. Output from a gdb session is included.
