Bug#452074: qdbm: No LFS support

2007-11-20 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: qdbm
Version: 1.8.74-1.1
Severity: serious
Justification: LFS support is a release goal

Hi,

there's no LFS support in qdbm, which makes it unsuitable for lenny,
since LFS is a release goal. It also doesn't look like new releases
(qdbm-1.8.77) fix that.

Cheers,

2007-11-20 Thread Daniel Smolik
Package: nfs-kernel-server

Justification: causes serious data loss

When I transfer files from an x86 machine to the arm nfs server,
files arrive corrupted (md5sum mismatch) and dmesg/syslog shows:

A try upload data with ftp and it works OK but may be slow 5MB/s on 100Mbit

from NFS server. I try Etch an Sid a situation is the same.

Ctrl-alt-Fx never works here on any of my machines. When the lockup
occurs no keys at all work, nor does the mouse, and I have to switch off
and reboot. I can't see anything in Xorg.log but it only has the latest
startup log for X, which is currently working. (I've disabled the
Ctrl-Esc sequence in icewm.)

Here is the relevant section of dpkg.log, showing what was done at the
last upgrade (sorry its's long):

We had #404447 in the past, a problem on NSLU2 (arm) with the same
error message. However, in that case, we were fairly sure in the end
that it was due to the Ethernet driver. I'm not sure this applies to
this bug since you say that nfs-user-server works. The other curious
thing is that I tried NFS on Thecus N2100 when I investigated #404447
and it worked fine for me (but that was with 2.6.17 or 2.6.18).

Can you try the following packages (which disable the patches we have
in ooo-build compared to plain upstream for GnomeVFS) and whether that
makes a difference?

2007-11-20 Thread Daniel Smolik

Martin Michlmayr napsal(a):

* Daniel Smolik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [2007-11-20 09:44]:

Package: nfs-kernel-server

When I transfer files from an x86 machine to the arm nfs server,
files arrive corrupted (md5sum mismatch) and dmesg/syslog shows:
kernel: nfsd: non-standard errno: -14

We had #404447 in the past, a problem on NSLU2 (arm) with the same
error message. However, in that case, we were fairly sure in the end
that it was due to the Ethernet driver. I'm not sure this applies to
this bug since you say that nfs-user-server works. The other curious
thing is that I tried NFS on Thecus N2100 when I investigated #404447
and it worked fine for me (but that was with 2.6.17 or 2.6.18).

I read this bug report, but I mean that this is problem nfsd.
I try ftp upload/download, smb upload/download, nfs-user-server
upload/download and all works. But when switch to nfs-kernel-server and
copying files with mc, copying starts very fast and after this stops,
wait while, slowdown and after while I get i/o error.

It does. I can't say for sure if it's reasonably possible, but it's

Package: mklibs
Severity: serious
Version: 0.1.26

I noticed the mklibs performs uncorrectly when building the d-i on
PowerPC [1]: as i'm not mklibs expert , i'm reporting what FJP said
about this issue:

"It looks like somehow the "@SLANG2" extension changes to "@Base" during
library reduction and that causes that the symbol cannot be found."

The post can be found here [2] and this bug was workarounded for now by
using mklibs-copy in place of mklibs.

You use a broken version of slang. The linker call lacks the map file
which maps the symbol versions.

| $ dpkg -L libslang2-pic | grep .map
| /usr/lib/libslang_pic.map

This usualy means you use an outdated or otherwise broken build
environment. Please provide proper informations about the packages you
use in the bugreport.

This is the correct behaviour.

Bug#451989: xserver-xorg: Total lockups in X

2007-11-20 Thread Ronald Lembcke
Hi!

My X-server just locked up, too.
It's the first time this happend (at least this year ;), it might have
to do with the update I did yesterday (I'm using "sid"):
At least xserver-xorg-core and xserver-xorg were updated.

Versions:
xserver-xorg-core: Version: 2:1.4.1~git20071117-1
xserver-xorg: Version: 1:7.3+6

The mouse cursor still moved, but everything else was frozen.
I couldn't even change the tty with SysRq+r Alt+F2 (or other F-Key).

chvt didn't change the terminal either. It didn't switch until I
finally killed the X-server (which didn't restore the video mode).

strace, ltrace and gdb didn't show much (They didn't even respond to
^C -- I had to kill them)

I'm not sure about the strace-output, don't remember it exactly:
It was a single line, I think it said someting about SIGALARM being raised.

The lablgtk2 is already aware of this, he told me that he is going to
ask for the needed binNMUs as soon as lablgtk2 has been rebuild on all
archs.

Looks like a GPU lockup. Look in your /var/log/dpkg.log or
/var/log/aptitude to see whether xserver-xorg-video-ati or
mesa has been updated recently too. What were you doing
when the lockup appeared?

Anyhow, you should probably make sure that you are using
xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.7.196 currently in experimental.

It's hard to say whether your problem is related to this
bug report, which we don't yet whether it's caused by X
or icewm either...

Bug#451825: segfault in PSPP

2007-11-20 Thread James R. Van Zandt

Andreas -

Thanks, I've reopened the bug.

I note your original report shows a version of 0.4.0-7+b1. I don't
recognize the "+b1" - what does that signify?

I also see you're running a 64 bit system, whereas I have a 32 bit
system, and I suspect that's the real problem. Would you mind dumping
a core file and using gdb to find out where the segfault was? With
that, I may be able to identify a relevant compiler warning. However,
it's more likely Ben will have to field this one.

I'll put excerpts from dpkg.log below

xserver-xorg-video-ati is at Version: 1:6.6.193-3
It hasn't been updated (at least) since
2007-09-26 12:13:09 upgrade xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.3-2 1:6.6.193-3

> What were you doing when the lockup appeared?
I tried to switch from one workspace to another one. Maybe the lockup
happened some seconds earlier and I didn't notice it immediately.

The workspace I tried to switch away from had a gnome-terminal and
a gnome-panel on it.
The destination workspace had the same panel and either another
gnome-terminal or iceweasel.

I'm using sawfish as window manager.

You use a broken version of slang. The linker call lacks the map file

This usualy means you use an outdated or otherwise broken build
environment. Please provide proper informations about the packages you
use in the bugreport.

This i what i got on the PowerPC machine where mklibs failed to operate
on libslang2

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/svn/installer/build$ apt-cache show libslang2-pic
slang-pic

Package: libslang2-pic
...
Version: 2.0.7-3
Depends: libslang2-dev (= 2.0.7-3)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/svn/installer/build$ dpkg -L libslang2-pic

/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/libslang2-pic

/usr/share/doc/libslang2-pic/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/lintian
/usr/share/lintian/overrides
/usr/share/lintian/overrides/libslang2-pic

as you can see, the /usr/lib/libslang_pic.map file was not provided by
that version of the package, so i modified the /etc/apt/sources.list
file to take debs from unstable instead of lenny and, after updating the
package list, a new libslang2-pic package, version 2.0.7-3 again, was
pulled in, this time providing the needed map file and i could
successfully complete the building of the installer.
Still, i wonder why i had to mess with sources.list to get the correct
package.

Many thanks for helping me solve this issue!

Attilio

Bug#451989: xserver-xorg: Total lockups in X

I just had another lockup before updating, I'll write again if
xserver-...-ati 6.7.196 crashes, too.

This time there was absolutely no output from strace, ltrace or gdb.
Gdb even had an "internal error" when trying to attach.

No messages in Xorg.0.log, either. It just ends with:
[...]
(II) RADEON(0): [agp] Mode 0x1f000207 [AGP 0x10de/0x01e0; Card 0x1002/0x5157]
(II) ConfiguredMouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
(II) 3rd Button detected: disabling emulate3Button

It locked up about a minute after I started xine (but the window wasn't on
the active workspace). Now xine has been running for about the
quarter of an hour without a lockup.

Below is the output of /proc/11511/status and of ps:

... well, there was no lockup in the few minutes I tried it, but:

I coultn'd maximise any windows (I'm not sure I tried any other program
than gnome-terminal). Sawfish toggled the windows state (changing the
menu-entry from "maximise" to "unmaximise") but the window didn't get
maximised.

Then I tried to upgrade from xserver-xorg-core_1.4.1~git20071117-1_i386.deb
to 2:1.4.1~git20071119-1.
The result: I didn't even get to see gdm. The screen just turned off.

Now I'm back to the old xserver-xorg-core and xserver-xorg-video-ati.
Tell me if there's something I should try out.

Please open a new bug report. Let's keep this one for Anthony's lockup
with icewm and intel hardware. Your hardware and software config are
different from this one. I will merge the bug reports later if we really
find out that it is the same problem.

You should probably revert to xserver-xorg-core 1.4-3 (take it from [1])
and ati 6.6.3 (from testing). Check that there are no lockup. And then
upgrade to xserver-xorg-core 2:1.4.1~git20071119-1 (from unstable).
If the lockup appears then, open a new bug against xserver-xorg-core.

If xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.7.196 never works (even after a reboot?),
that would be another bug against xserver-xorg-video-ati, but we should
not mix them.

Brice

Bug#452128: gallery2: Upgrade claims files are unwritable

2007-11-20 Thread Shawn Willden
Package: gallery2
Version: 2.1.2-2.0.etch.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After upgrading this morning (to obtain the security fixes), my
gallery installation cannot perform the web-based portion of the
upgrade process. When it gets to step 2 "System Checks", it
fails saying:

"Error: Some files and or directories in your storage directory
are not writeable by the webserver user. Run chown -R webserverUser
   /var/lib/gallery2/g2data3847sj/ OR run chmod -R 777
   /var/lib/gallery2/g2data3847sj/"

This surprised me, but I ran:

  chown -R www-data:www-data /var/lib/gallery2/g2data3847sj

to make sure. Same error. Since g2data3847sj is a symlink to
g2data, I ran the same command on g2data. Same error. Next,
I used:

  chmod -R 777 /var/lib/gallery2/g2data3847sj

Same error. Finally, I also went to /usr/share/gallery2 and
set ownership and mode on everything there, thinking that
perhaps the error message was not taking into account the
way Debian organizes the gallery2 files in the filesystem.
Same error.

The upgrader cannot get past step 2 and I can't find a way
to get it to admit that those files are writable by the
web server.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Shawn.

Bug#452167: xserver-xorg-core: xserver crashes briefly after startup of window manager

2007-11-20 Thread Wolf Wiegand
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.4.1~git20071117-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

after upgrading to the the above version, the xserver on my machine
hangs briefly after login on gdm - the window manager is started,
and after a few moments (between 5 and 25 seconds), the xserver
hangs (although the mouse is still usable), and I have to kill
the xserver using the SysReqKey.

Downgrading to 2:1.4-3 makes these problems go away.

What I've tried to fix this problem (unsuccessfully):

- disable DRI in xorg.conf by putting 'Option "NoDRI"' (This does not
seem to work, xorg.log still showed that libdri.so was loaded.
xorg.conf(5) unfortunately does not tell how to disable DRI.)
- rename libdri.so to s.th. else so that libdri.so is not loaded

After some crashes, the following lines appeared repeatedly at the end
of Xorg.0.log:

tossed event which came in late
 mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping.

Best Regards, Wolf

Bug#436159: #436159: fsck.hfs on amd64

2007-11-20 Thread Rogério Brito

Hi, Adam and others.

On Nov 15, 2007, at 5:12 PM, Adam Cécile (Le_Vert) wrote:

As darwin developper doesn't really seem to care about your bug?

Yes, one user has kindly informed me that the version released with
MacOS X 10.5 *still* has the very same lines, untouched, which is, to
say, a shame. I will ask my sponsor (hi, Gerfried!) to upload a new
version in the next few days.

I'd suggest to fallback on my old package (I mean, build with -
m32). I understand this is crap, but it really works.

This would make the package working only with a few 64 bit platforms
(maybe sparc64 too). As amd64 is one of the more important 64 bit
platforms, I think that I will restrict the availability of this
package to some architectures (i.e., not being Arch: any anymore) so
that we can get the benefits of pragmatism.

I only have to check if the option -m32 needs or not any 32 bit part
of userland or 32 bit emulation in the kernel (I hope not). I want
the package to work on a pure 64 bit platform.

Thanks for your interest, Rogério Brito.

Justification: no longer builds from source

This package fails to build because the diff contains files generated by
the configure phase. config.status, all Makefiles, config.log and
probably tests/test???/output should not be in the diff. Additionally,
the diff makes a change to configure.ac which has not been propagated to
configure; if it's intentional, autoconf needs to be rerun.

Bug#452080: Also remove Error.pm in install-indep target.

2007-11-20 Thread Andreas Henriksson
tags 452080 + patch
thanks

The attached patch fixes the problems which seems to be caused by "make
install" in the install-indep target in debian/rules installing the
Error.pm module *again*, after it was removed when being installed in
the install-arch target. (No idea why it ends up in "debian/git-core/"
when DESTDIR is set to "debian/tmp/"?!)

Please carefully examine the patch to make sure it's actually correct.
All I've done is to verify that it works for me.

Bug#452194: invalid http11.so module (MS-DOS binary) present in package!

2007-11-20 Thread Matt Brown
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: mongrel
Version: 1.1.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: package is unusable on most platforms

mongrel_1.1.1.orig.tar.gz (md5sum 103a7a3c5580fc1002c1327fea934203)
contains two invalid files that should not be in a source package:

mongrel-1.1.1/lib/http11.jar
mongrel-1.1.1/lib/http11.so

This is doubly bad because the .so is built as an MS-DOS executable
according to file!

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/matt # file /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: MS-DOS executable PE for MS Windows
(DLL) (GUI) Intel 80386 32-bit

The package fails to work after installation due to this,
mongrel_rails gives the error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/matt # mongrel_rails
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: invalid ELF
header - /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so (LoadError)

Deleting the two files from the source package and rebuilding results
in a correct .so library and mongrel_rails then functions
appropriately.

Bug#452179: Maybe not critical...

2007-11-20 Thread Daniel Dorau
I just learned that there is a workaround, which seems not to be well
documented (or not at all), but which works:

Add

(xor-color (color-rgb 1.0 1.0 1.0))
to .gimp-2.4/gimprc

I am not entirely sure whether this is a bug of gimp or particular
graphics drivers. If the latter one is the case, the bug may be closed
but I would welcome some FAQ/README entry in the docs which points to
the workaround.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.

Bug#452226: dpkg-dev: new dpkg-shlibdeps breaks kdebase/experimental

2007-11-20 Thread brian m. carlson

Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.14.9
Severity: serious
File: /usr/bin/dpkg-shlibdeps
Justification: breaks unrelated packages (through build-essential)

dpkg-shlibdeps has regressed. It now causes kdebase/experimental
(3.96.0) to FTBFS with the following error messages:

dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: Can't extract name and version from library name
`libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so'
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: Can't extract name and version from library name

dh_shlibdeps: command returned error code 512
make: *** [binary-predeb-IMPL/konqueror] Error 1
dpkg-buildpackage: failure: fakeroot debian/rules binary gave error exit status
2

Several thousand other warning messages are present, but since those do
not cause an FTBFS, I have not pasted them here. objdump output is below:

stonewall ok % objdump -x ./konqueror/usr/lib/libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so | grep
-E '(SONAME|NEEDED)'
  NEEDED libQtCore.so.4
  NEEDED libpthread.so.0

  NEEDED  libstdc++.so.6
  NEEDED libm.so.6
  NEEDED libc.so.6
  NEEDED libgcc_s.so.1
  SONAME libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so

I would provide you with more information if it were clear from the
error messages what name and version you were looking for. Ah, it seems
that dpkg-shlibdeps assumes a certain format for SONAMEs, even though
this shared object appears to be a private plugin specific to the
konqueror package. Dpkg::Shlibs::Objdump seems to be under the mistaken
impression that having DYNAMIC and SONAME makes something a public
library, and the combination of these two bugs causes the error listed
above.

Perhaps Dpkg::Shlibs::Objdump should instead determine that something is
a public library if it has a certain SONAME format (as well as DYNAMIC),
and instead punt if it doesn't. Then extract_from_shlibs would not need
that code, and although no shlibs file would be generated, it would at
least not cause the build to fail.

dpkg 1.14.7 says instead:
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_keditbookmarks.so' not
recognized
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so' not
recognized
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_konqueror.so' not
recognized

but it does not fail.

N.B. Although the versions of dpkg-dev and dpkg are correct, this report
was not generated on the failing system. Consequently, other package
versions may not be correct.

Bug#448657: Wine crashes X

2007-11-20 Thread pl4yer0ne

I also get this problem, other things also crash X as well.
May possibly be related to SDL as it seems to happen on all SDL games.

The last part of the X log is:

Backtrace:
0: /usr/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x81) [0x80c82f1]
1: [0xe420]

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

James

I have just found out my problem was due to the new version of xorg

As i use the NVidia ones I just re-installed the driver.

Problem solved.

It has not regressed, it's just no more accepting things that are *wrong*
like a public library without shlibs information.

It has been announced quite some time in advance:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2007/09/msg4.html

You have 3 solutions:
- make sure that the lib has no SONAME so that it's identified by
  dpkg-shlibdeps as a private library
- add --ignore-missing-info to the dpkg-shlibdeps call (you can pass this
  via "dh_shlibdeps -- --ignore-missing-info")
- add dependency information for this library (shlibs is not possible
given that it has no version, however symbols files are possible)

It has no characteristic of a private plugin (it has a SONAME, it's in a
public directory).

During the discussions on -devel, Steve Langasek suggested me to use the
SONAME+DYNAMIC as the criterion to define a public library.

It's not the lack of version that makes it fail. It's the lack of
dependency information.
