Bug#451989: xserver-xorg: Total lockups in X
Hi! My X-server just locked up, too. It's the first time this happend (at least this year ;), it might have to do with the update I did yesterday (I'm using "sid"): At least xserver-xorg-core and xserver-xorg were updated. Versions: xserver-xorg-core: Version: 2:1.4.1~git20071117-1 xserver-xorg: Version: 1:7.3+6 The mouse cursor still moved, but everything else was frozen. I couldn't even change the tty with SysRq+r Alt+F2 (or other F-Key). chvt didn't change the terminal either. It didn't switch until I finally killed the X-server (which didn't restore the video mode). strace, ltrace and gdb didn't show much (They didn't even respond to ^C -- I had to kill them) I'm not sure about the strace-output, don't remember it exactly: It was a single line, I think it said someting about SIGALARM being raised. Look in your /var/log/dpkg.log or /var/log/aptitude to see whether xserver-xorg-video-ati or mesa has been updated recently too. What were you doing when the lockup appeared? Anyhow, you should probably make sure that you are using xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.7.196 currently in experimental. Bug#451825: segfault in PSPP
Andreas - Thanks, I've reopened the bug. I note your original report shows a version of 0.4.0-7+b1. I don't recognize the "+b1" - what does that signify? I also see you're running a 64 bit system, whereas I have a 32 bit system, and I suspect that's the real problem. Would you mind dumping a core file and using gdb to find out where the segfault was? With that, I may be able to identify a relevant compiler warning. However, it's more likely Ben will have to field this one. - Jim Van Zandt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

On Tue Nov 20 16:13:56 2007, Ronald Lembcke wrote: > I just had another lockup before updating, I'll write again if > xserver-...-ati 6.7.196 crashes, too. ... well, there was no lockup in the few minutes I tried it, but: I coultn'd maximise any windows (I'm not sure I tried any other program than gnome-terminal). Sawfish toggled the windows state (changing the menu-entry from "maximise" to "unmaximise") but the window didn't get maximised. Then I tried to upgrade from xserver-xorg-core_1.4.1~git20071117-1_i386.deb to 2:1.4.1~git20071119-1. The result: I didn't even get to see gdm. The screen just turned off. Let's keep this one for Anthony's lockup with icewm and intel hardware. Your hardware and software config are different from this one. I will merge the bug reports later if we really find out that it is the same problem. You should probably revert to xserver-xorg-core 1.4-3 (take it from [1]) and ati 6.6.3 (from testing). Check that there are no lockup. And then upgrade to xserver-xorg-core 2:1.4.1~git20071119-1 (from unstable). If the lockup appears then, open a new bug against xserver-xorg-core. If xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.7.196 never works (even after a reboot?), that would be another bug against xserver-xorg-video-ati, but we should not mix them. Bug#452128: gallery2: Upgrade claims files are unwritable
Package: gallery2 Version: 2.1.2-2.0.etch.1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable After upgrading this morning (to obtain the security fixes), my gallery installation cannot perform the web-based portion of the upgrade process. When it gets to step 2 "System Checks", it fails saying: "Error: Some files and or directories in your storage directory are not writeable by the webserver user. Run chown -R webserverUser /var/lib/gallery2/g2data3847sj/ OR run chmod -R 777 /var/lib/gallery2/g2data3847sj/" This surprised me, but I ran: chown -R www-data:www-data /var/lib/gallery2/g2data3847sj to make sure. Same error. Since g2data3847sj is a symlink to g2data, I ran the same command on g2data. Same error. Next, I used: chmod -R 777 /var/lib/gallery2/g2data3847sj Same error. Finally, I also went to /usr/share/gallery2 and set ownership and mode on everything there, thinking that perhaps the error message was not taking into account the way Debian organizes the gallery2 files in the filesystem. Same error. The upgrader cannot get past step 2 and I can't find a way to get it to admit that those files are writable by the web server. Any ideas? Bug#452167: xserver-xorg-core: xserver crashes briefly after startup of window manager
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.4.1~git20071117-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hi, after upgrading to the the above version, the xserver on my machine hangs briefly after login on gdm - the window manager is started, and after a few moments (between 5 and 25 seconds), the xserver hangs (although the mouse is still usable), and I have to kill the xserver using the SysReqKey. Downgrading to 2:1.4-3 makes these problems go away. What I've tried to fix this problem (unsuccessfully): - disable DRI in xorg.conf by putting 'Option "NoDRI"' (This does not seem to work, xorg.log still showed that libdri.so was loaded. xorg.conf(5) unfortunately does not tell how to disable DRI.) - rename libdri.so to s.th. else so that libdri.so is not loaded After some crashes, the following lines appeared repeatedly at the end of Xorg.0.log: tossed event which came in late mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping. Bug#436159: #436159: fsck.hfs on amd64
Hi, Adam and others. On Nov 15, 2007, at 5:12 PM, Adam Cécile (Le_Vert) wrote: As darwin developper doesn't really seem to care about your bug? Yes, one user has kindly informed me that the version released with MacOS X 10.5 *still* has the very same lines, untouched, which is, to say, a shame. I will ask my sponsor (hi, Gerfried!) to upload a new version in the next few days. I'd suggest to fallback on my old package (I mean, build with - m32). I understand this is crap, but it really works. This would make the package working only with a few 64 bit platforms (maybe sparc64 too). As amd64 is one of the more important 64 bit platforms, I think that I will restrict the availability of this package to some architectures (i.e., not being Arch: any anymore) so that we can get the benefits of pragmatism. I only have to check if the option -m32 needs or not any 32 bit part of userland or 32 bit emulation in the kernel (I hope not). I want the package to work on a pure 64 bit platform. Bug#452080: Also remove Error.pm in install-indep target.
tags 452080 + patch thanks The attached patch fixes the problems which seems to be caused by "make install" in the install-indep target in debian/rules installing the Error.pm module *again*, after it was removed when being installed in the install-arch target. (No idea why it ends up in "debian/git-core/" when DESTDIR is set to "debian/tmp/"?!) Please carefully examine the patch to make sure it's actually correct. Bug#452179: Maybe not critical...
I just learned that there is a workaround, which seems not to be well documented (or not at all), but which works: Add (xor-color (color-rgb 1.0 1.0 1.0)) to .gimp-2.4/gimprc I am not entirely sure whether this is a bug of gimp or particular graphics drivers. If the latter one is the case, the bug may be closed but I would welcome some FAQ/README entry in the docs which points to the workaround. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#452226: dpkg-dev: new dpkg-shlibdeps breaks kdebase/experimental
Package: dpkg-dev Version: 1.14.9 Severity: serious File: /usr/bin/dpkg-shlibdeps Justification: breaks unrelated packages (through build-essential) dpkg-shlibdeps has regressed. It now causes kdebase/experimental (3.96.0) to FTBFS with the following error messages: dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: Can't extract name and version from library name `libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so' dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: Can't extract name and version from library name `libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so' dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: Can't extract name and version from library name `libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so' dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: Can't extract name and version from library name `libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so' dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: Can't extract name and version from library name `libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so' dpkg-shlibdeps: failure: No dependency information found for libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so (used by debian/konqueror/usr/bin/kfmclient). dh_shlibdeps: command returned error code 512 make: *** [binary-predeb-IMPL/konqueror] Error 1 dpkg-buildpackage: failure: fakeroot debian/rules binary gave error exit status 2 Several thousand other warning messages are present, but since those do not cause an FTBFS, I have not pasted them here. objdump output is below: stonewall ok % objdump -x ./konqueror/usr/lib/libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so | grep -E '(SONAME|NEEDED)' NEEDED libQtCore.so.4 NEEDED libpthread.so.0 NEEDED libkdecore.so.5 NEEDED libkdeui.so.5 NEEDED libz.so.1 NEEDED libstreamanalyzer.so.0 NEEDED libstreams.so.0 NEEDED libsolid.so.4 NEEDED libfam.so.0 NEEDED libXrender.so.1 NEEDED libkio.so.5 NEEDED libQtSvg.so.4 NEEDED libSM.so.6 NEEDED libICE.so.6 NEEDED libX11.so.6 NEEDED libXext.so.6 NEEDED libXft.so.2 NEEDED libXau.so.6 NEEDED libXdmcp.so.6 NEEDED libXtst.so.6 NEEDED libXcursor.so.1 NEEDED libXfixes.so.3 NEEDED libQtNetwork.so.4 NEEDED libbz2.so.1.0 NEEDED libresolv.so.2 NEEDED libQtDBus.so.4 NEEDED libQtXml.so.4 NEEDED libQtGui.so.4 NEEDED libstdc++.so.6 NEEDED libm.so.6 NEEDED libc.so.6 NEEDED libgcc_s.so.1 SONAME libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so I would provide you with more information if it were clear from the error messages what name and version you were looking for. Ah, it seems that dpkg-shlibdeps assumes a certain format for SONAMEs, even though this shared object appears to be a private plugin specific to the konqueror package. Dpkg::Shlibs::Objdump seems to be under the mistaken impression that having DYNAMIC and SONAME makes something a public library, and the combination of these two bugs causes the error listed above. Perhaps Dpkg::Shlibs::Objdump should instead determine that something is a public library if it has a certain SONAME format (as well as DYNAMIC), and instead punt if it doesn't. Then extract_from_shlibs would not need that code, and although no shlibs file would be generated, it would at least not cause the build to fail. dpkg 1.14.7 says instead: dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_keditbookmarks.so' not recognized dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so' not recognized dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_konqueror.so' not recognized but it does not fail. N.B. Although the versions of dpkg-dev and dpkg are correct, this report was not generated on the failing system. Consequently, other package versions may not be correct. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.23-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages dpkg-dev depends on: ii binutils2.18.1~cvs20071027-1 The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii cpio2.9-6GNU cpio -- a program to manage ar ii dpkg1.14.9 package maintenance system for Deb ii make3.81-3 The GNU version of the "make" util ii patch 2.5.9-4 Apply a diff file to an original ii perl [perl5]5.8.8-12 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii perl-modules5.8.8-12 Core Perl modules Versions of packages dpkg-dev recommends: ii bzip2 1.0.3-7high-quality block-sorting file co ii gcc [c-compiler] 4:4.2.1-6 The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.1 [c-compiler] 4.1.2-17 The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.2 [c-compiler] 4.2.2-3The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.3 [c-compiler] 4.3-20070902-1 The GNU C compiler -- no debconf information -- brian m. carlson / brian with sandals: Houston, Texas, US +1 71

It has been announced quite some time in advance: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2007/09/msg4.html You have 3 solutions: - make sure that the lib has no SONAME so that it's identified by dpkg-shlibdeps as a private library - add --ignore-missing-info to the dpkg-shlibdeps call (you can pass this via "dh_shlibdeps -- --ignore-missing-info") - add dependency information for this library (shlibs is not possible given that it has no version, however symbols files are possible) > I would provide you with more information if it were clear from the error > messages what name and version you were looking for.
