Bug#447667: vlc is still not installable in sid

2007-10-30 Thread Luk Claes

Version: 0.8.6.c-3+b2

This version is still the version that will fix the issue.

Yves-Alexis Perez wrote:

thanks

It seems that the rebuild was never rescheduled, sid still has
0.8.6.c-3.

Which indeed indicates that the rebuild did not reach the archive yet.
As [0] doesn't seem to know about the binNMU, the binNMU might indeed
not get scheduled though it is mentioned on [1].

The correct action is not to reopen the bug, but to ask why it didn't
get scheduled.

Cheers

Luk

To reproduce the bug just install bzr, that should pull
python-celementree, and then run debfoster, it'll ask to remove
python-celementree, if you accept it will also remove apt. You can do
that easily in a freshly deboostraped chroot.

I can only reproduce that it will remove bzr, but this is still a bug.

'reopen' may be inappropriate when a bug has been closed with a version;
you may need to use 'found' to remove fixed versions.
Bug reopened, originator not changed.

Sorry, but as indeed the fixed version didn't reach the archive, and the last
action on the bug was a week ago, I thought following up on it would be a
good idea, and I thought it'd be better to reopen the bug if I was to reply
to. Feel free to close it again.

2007-10-30 Thread Hamish Moffatt
Package: xinetd

xinetd diverts inetd (as provided by openbsd-inetd or netkit-inetd), but
the default configuration does not read its configuration file
(-inetd_compat switch).

Thus any services in /etc/inetd.conf are just disabled without warning.

Bug#441806: deskbar-plugins-strigi: Error window pops up after each keystroke

I tried version 0.5.7. The "error window after each keystroke" bug is
gone. That does not make strigi useable however, the deskbar-applet
now displays a line under "Dateien" (=="Files" in german): "Strigi not

When I klick on the "Strigi not available" line, bug-buddy pops up

Hi there!

Due to the recent removal of apache (including it's accompanied
packages of apache-common, apache-dbg, apache-dev, apache-doc,

Hi.

Default config for cfg{RCS}{WorkAreaDir} is to use the PubDir/_work_areas/ as
"work area" for plugins (see /var/www/twiki/pub/_work_areas/README).

However, this dir (/var/www/twiki/pub/_work_areas) potentialy exposes its
content (as http://localhost/twiki/pub/_work_areas) on the web (it's only
protected by a .htaccess, which may easily be inactive due to diabling of
overrides in apache config).

This directory is supposed to be used by TWiki plugins to store tempfiles, etc.
Exposing such files may constitute a security risk.

I think it may be wise to put such a work area in a dir like
/var/lib/apache2/twiki which would be owned by www-data but not accessible from
the web (by setting cfg{RCS}{WorkAreaDir} accordingly).

Hope this helps.

Hi,

this is a bug reported against the package present in etch which does
and has never supported the Geforce Go 6100 card (it supports the
non-mobile Geforce 6100 card, though). To make your card run, you need
to use a newer driver version from sid (e.g. a backport).

I personally would close this bug, but at least, this is not a RC bug,
hence the tagging (Randal, I hope you don't mind).

Regards,
Daniel

Bug#420081: S2S and SSL work fine.

2007-10-30 Thread Jamin W. Collins
severity 420081 normal
tags 420081 = moreinfo unreproducible
thanks

I've just tested this on a bare Debian 4.0 installation. Installed only
jabber-1.4.3-3.3, created a self signed SSL certificate, and made the
minimal changes necessary to configure the server to use the certificate
and communicate with other servers.

I then added my normal jabber account to the contact list of my new user
on the test system. Both accounts are connected to their respective
servers via SSL and I'm able to pass messages back and forth between them.

Based on the above findings, I'm downgrading the severity of this
report. I suspect the problem that's being experienced by some is with
some other component.

For those experiencing this problem, are you also running any
transports? If so, which one(s)? Can you try disabling all transports
and test just the core jabber server using the 1.4.3-3.3 package?

Bug#446825: ghostscript: shouldn't provide gs, gs-gpl (and probably others)

Hi,

Thanks for suggestion, but the current ghostscript-x package only
contains /usr/lib/ghostscript/8.61/X11.so, so I'm pretty much
reluctant to call it the "main" ghostscript package. Possibly I
should have called it ghostscript-plugin-x or such, but I don't think
it makes much difference...

Best regards,
MH

Bug#448644: CVE-2007-5708 remote denial of service

2007-10-30 Thread Nico Golde
Package: slapd
Version: 2.3.38
Severity: grave
Tags: security patch

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was
published for slapd.

CVE-2007-5708[0]:
Name: CVE-2007-5708
Status: Candidate
URL: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-5708

slapo-pcache (overlays/pcache.c) in slapd in OpenLDAP before 2.3.39,
when running as a proxy-caching server, allocates memory using a
malloc variant instead of calloc, which prevents an array from being
initiialized properly and might allow attackers to cause a denial of
service (segmentation fault) via unknown vectors that prevent the
array from being null terminated.

This information is not yet on the mitre site but it seems to be public.
A fix for this can be found on:
http://www.openldap.org/devel/cvsweb.cgi/servers/slapd/overlays/pcache.c.diff?r1=1.41.2.20&r2=1.41.2.21&hideattic=1&sortbydate=0

Kind regards
Nico

password, the current path is not inherited by the super user environment.
This problem does not occur with a user whose home directory is not encrypted
by encfs. This bug is known to upstream and has been fixed in version 0.1.4
of libpam-encfs (see
http://hollowtube.mine.nu/wiki/index.php?n=Projects.PamEncfs). I built my own
deb-package for version 0.1.4.1 and can confirm that the bug is resolved in
this version.

I consider this bug highly dangerous and recommended an urgent fix. Just think
about somebody executing "sudo rm -R *" in a directory whose contents he
wants to delete and deleting his whole home directory instead.

debian/copyright refers to /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL text, which can be
GPLv3. Since the package is GPLv2-only, it should refer to
/usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-2 instead.

In addition, it also missrepresents the license with the "at your option"
wording.

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that will cause
your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a pointer
is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was
published for ghostscript.

CVE-2007-2721[0]:
| The jpc_qcx_getcompparms function in jpc/jpc_cs.c for the JasPer
| JPEG-2000 library (libjasper) before 1.900 allows remote user-assisted
| attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly corrupt
| the heap via malformed image files, as originally demonstrated using
| imagemagick convert.

If you fix this vulnerability please also include the CVE id
in your changelog entry.

This vulnerability is present in the embedded copy of
jasper.

This problem makes slony1 (and propably other packages) fail for

and resolve that problem.

All Harry did was switch to the PHP 3.0 license, which does nothing to
solve the license problem. A license such as the BSD or Expat license
would solve the problem.

2007-10-30 Thread Andreas Henriksson
Same version, same arch. Works for me.
More information is probably required to track this down.
In the meantime, I guess this bug should be downgraded to important or
less since the software is usable (atleast by some).

Bug#446468: Could you please get a backtrace for your gThumb problem?

2007-10-30 Thread Andreas Henriksson
Hello!

I've had a quick look at the bug you filed for double-free in gThumb.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduce the problem.
It would be very helpful if you could gather some debugging info if you
can reliably reproduce this problem.

Here are some short help on how to build a debug version of gThumb to
get a useful backtrace:

# get source
cd /tmp
apt-get source gthumb
cd gthumb-*

# install build-dependencies
apt-get build-dep gthumb
apt-get install build-essential dpkg-dev

# build with no optimization and don't strip of debugging symbols.
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="noopt,nostrip,debug" dpkg-buildpackage -uc -us

now install the debug version you just built:
dpkg -i /tmp/gthumb*.deb

and run it via gdb:
apt-get install gdb
gdb gthumb
(gdb) run
... [ reproduce problem, the crash will throw you back to the gdb
prompt ] ...
(gdb) bt
... [ please send this backtrace to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ] ...
(gdb) quit

Bug#446468: Regarding your gthumb bugreport

2007-10-30 Thread Andreas Henriksson
I noticed another peculiar thing.

> Starting gthumb 2.6.9 from xterm ...

Stable has 2.8.0-1, testing has 2.10.2-4, unstable has 2.10.5-2.

Is 2.6.9 a typo or is that the actual version number? If so, where did you get
that from?
Could you do "dpkg -l | grep gthumb" and send that output to the bugreport as
well please?

Now that licence is cleared, I think we can choose to use 3.01, as stated...
" 5. The PHP Group may publish revised and/or new versions of the
license from time to time. Each version will be given a
 distinguishing version number.
Once covered code has been published under a particular version
of the license, you may always continue to use it under the terms
of that version. You may also choose to use such covered code
under the terms of any subsequent version of the license
published by the PHP Group. No one other than the PHP Group has
the right to modify the terms applicable to covered code created
 under this License."

Or do I miss a point ?

PHP 3.01 is still GPL incompatible. There's also many people under the
impression that the PHP license is only valid for code from the PHP
Group. To solve the license issue, a GPL compatible license needs to be
chosen. http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/ lists numerous GPL
Compatible Free Software Licenses.

Hi,

Lucas Nussbaum has rebuiltthe whole archive three times on i386 and the
content of your packages builded there differ. This means that the package
which was generated on the fist build contains or doesn't contains several
files
which are or aren't included in the package which build two or three times.

This was fixed by the binNMU 0.60+b2.

In future, please don't file bugs on packages needing a rebuild, instead
just ask debian-release to binNMU the package:
