Bug#439989: decibel-audio-player: uses try/except/finally, which Python 2.4 doesn't support

2007-08-29 Thread François Ingelrest
Tags: patch

Here is a patch that removes this structure, it will be included in
the upcoming 0.06 version.

After checking the code, I think this is the only thing that prevents
Decibel Audio Player from being Python-2.4 compatible.

Thanks for the report!

the reason why it did not work for *me* was the following line
in /etc/environment:

export GDK_USE_XFT JITC_PROCESSOR_TYPE SDL_AUDIODRIVER G_BROKEN_FILENAMES

removing it fixes the problem.

This bug is fixed by merely removing the comma at the end of line 333

bug to libgimp2.0-dev, or should I do it?

Thanks!

Ok. /etc/environment is not a shell script, it's a list of variable
assignments; this use of "export" is not legal, and it was only coincidence
that this didn't fail for you before.

Now that I can reproduce the problem, I'll look into the cause of the
obscure error message.

it is strangely enough that

export GDK_USE_XFT=1
export GDK_USE_XFT

all still works but export fails with >= 2 arguments (export GDK_USE_XFT
JITC_PROCESSOR_TYPE)

well...

As discussed on IRC if this is urgent I recommend working around it by
defining _LARGEFILE64_SOURCE along with _FILE_OFFSET_BITS. I'd rather
consult with upstream before fixing this which can sometimes take a
while. Please let me know if this is going to be a problem.

Yes, doing it. Didn't do it before as I'm still on my Vienna

This appears to be a 2.5-ism, whereas Debian's default is still 2.4.
Please either fix the code to work with 2.4 or explicitly use 2.5 (and
adjust dependencies accordingly; AFAICT, they're all ready to go).

Thanks!

Bug#439392: [backup-manager] Fix proposed upstream

2007-08-29 Thread Alexis Sukrieh

Hello,

A fix has been proposed and is waiting for approval by the development
team upstream. We welcome very much the Debian's point of view of the
solution submited here.

patch:
  http://bugzilla.backup-manager.org/cgi-bin/attachment.cgi?id=64

use private temp file for passing the password to b-m-u

This way we hide the password in a file which is readable only by the
user who launched backup-manager, and saved in his home directory.
backup-manager-upload is passed the path to that file instead of the
  password itself.

Feel free to comment on.

Regards,

the only solution I see is to forbid people to use python2.5 and
strictly depend on python2.4 and python2.4-sqlite ...

That's because pam_env has code to ignore 'export' at the beginning of a
line for compatibility with bash, but that's as far as the compatibility
extends or should be extended.

Sorry for the noise.

Hi!

I didn't receive Your replies to my report for unknown reason,
but I read it on the site. So, here is my summary comments for
your and numerous related messages about last upgrade of pam
system

I am serve a lot of debian servers, but only one machine (which is
my home computer) has the problem I am reported. But at this
moment it is not accessible for me, and thus I can't give You
more info right now, but some time later. The reason caused
problem and pointed out by Soeren look like fantastic, but it
rather likely it is my case too, because I am never touch pam
configuration anywhere, but as usual edit environment.

There is some number of reports about many services needed to
restart after upgrading pam. I should add one more to this list:
it is samba too, that should be restarted. And reasonable question
is: is this list closed, or there are other daemons to restart?

And finally, rhetorical question: is it possible to catch bugs,
like this, that cause the earthquake, before upload?

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not that creative with names, but if you are going to fork it, you
could call it e.g. fishcat, because it uses the twofish cipher.

Yes, I'm quite confident that your bug is the same as the problem on
Soeren's system. I have a fix now in svn that should be uploaded with -4 in
the next couple of days.

When you get access to your system, you can fix it by removing any lines
from /etc/environment that are not of the form "VARIABLE=VALUE" or
"export VARIABLE=VALUE". Any other lines in /etc/environment are still
errors, my fix will just make it so that these errors are not fatal.

The -3 upload already includes code to restart services on upgrade, and
samba is included in the list. It's possible that there are some services
still missing from the list, and I'm happy to receive bug reports if you
find such a service.

> And finally, rhetorical question: is it possible to catch bugs,

No, it's impossible to prove that there are no bugs in a given upload of
such a piece of software. I certainly did as much QA before uploading as I
could, but the bug you found has only been reported by two people, out of
hundreds or thousands that track unstable.

That's why we have separate unstable, testing, and stable suites -- to catch
the bugs that one person alone isn't going to be able to find.

Bug#440042: linux-image-2.6-amd64: Installed kernel does not detect CD/DVD writer, installer does

2007-08-29 Thread Lars Luthman
Package: linux-image-2.6-amd64
Version: 2.6.21+8
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I recently installed Debian Lenny AMD64 from the first installer DVD.
The installation went fine, and the system started OK. But when I
tried to use the CD/DVD writer, I discovered that the kernel didn't
detect it - it was as if there was nothing there. The only SATA or IDE
devices reported are /dev/sda and its partitions (which is the
harddisk). Loading ide-cd didn't help, loading ide-generic printed the
output

Probing IDE interface ide0...
Probing IDE interface ide1...

but still nothing happens, no device files, no output in dmesg.

When I boot from the installer and start the shell, I see a /dev/hdb
device file and /proc/ide/ide0/hdb/model says "TSSTCorp CDDVDW
SN-S082H" (this file does not exist when I run the installed kernel).

I have tried upgrading to the newest 2.6-amd64 kernel and also tried
building my own 2.6.22.5 kernel, it's the same no matter what.

Bug#439908: Fixed Upstream

2007-08-29 Thread Phil Bordelon
This bug has been fixed upstream in r407. As a temporary
measure, Andrew, you can either a) create that directory as
a user who has access (probably root; the directory it wants
is at the same level as data/, code/ and the like in the
install location) or b) install singularity-music, which goes
into that location.

Bug#440042: Workaround

2007-08-29 Thread Lars Luthman
After lots of help from people on #debian on Freenode, and many dead
ends explored, I found that setting the kernel option acpi=off makes the
kernel (all kernels I've tested so far - 2.6.18, 2.6.21, 2.6.22 and a
custom 2.6.22.5 from kernel.org) detect the DVD. So this works as a
temporary solution. It would be nice to be able to have both DVD and
ACPI working though.

Hi Lionel

Thanks for the bug report. I can reproduce your segmentation fault.

> ii guile-1.8-libs 1.8.2+1-2Main Guile libraries

The problem is with the latest version of guile-1.8-libs. Texmacs
starts up fine with guile-1.8-libs 1.8.1+1-5 . However, it segfaults
with 1.8.2+1-2. If you want a quick workaround, install guile-1.8-libs
1.8.1.+1-5 from snapshot.debian.net.

[Atsuhito] I dont have much expertise with guile. I will take a look
at the segmentation fault, but I am not sure if I will succeed. I
appreciate if you can also take a stab at it.

For what it's worth, I have manually compiled CVS HEAD of TeXmacs, and
it works. I wonder whether a 1.0.6.10 TeXmacs compiled/linked against
the latest guile-1.8-libs will work, too. You may want to try that. It
would indicate a bug in guile-1.8-libs, I suppose.

I compiled texmacs 1.0.6.10-1 using pdebuild (which in turn used
guile-1.8-libs 1.8.2+1-2). Now if I install guile-1.8-libs 1.8.1+1-5
and run texmacs it segfaults with the following error

texmacs.bin: Symbol `scm_i_freelist' has different size in shared
object, consider re-linking
TeXmacs] With linked TrueType support
Segmentation fault

However, if I install guile-1.8-libs 1.8.2+1-2 and run texmacs (built
with pdebuild) then it starts up fine. So I guess something has gone
amuck in guile-1.8 (1.8.2+1-2).

I added the email address of Rob Browning (maintainer of guile-1.8) to
this bug so that he can help with this issue.

Bug#440088: libstlport5.1-dev: single-thread namespace for thread-safe library

2007-08-29 Thread Jason Kraftcheck
Package: libstlport5.1-dev
Version: 5.1.3-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The headers included in libstlport5.1-dev define _STDP_STD_NAME to be
the non-thread-safe namespace (stlpmtx_std). The library installed by
libstlport5.1 includes only symbols in the thread-safe namespace
(stlp_std.)

The following code will print out the definitino of _STDP_STD_NAME as
defined in /usr/include/stlport/std/config/features.h:

#include
#include

#define STRINGIFY2(X) #X
#define STRINGIFY(X) STRINGIFY2(X)

int main(int argc, char* argv[])
{
  puts( STRINGIFY(_STLP_STD_NAME) );
  return 0;
}

The output I get is "stlpmtx_std".

The following command will list the symbols defined in the libary:

  nm -CD --defined-only /usr/lib/libstlport5.1

The library appears to define everythign in the "stlp_std" namespace.

Bug#440042: Still nothing, some output

2007-08-29 Thread Lars Luthman
Thanks for the tip, I tried 2.6.23-rc3 but it's still the same - with
ACPI I get no DVD device detected, without ACPI it works. I'm attaching
the output from dmesg and lspci both with and without acpi=off.

I have also tried the kernel options suggested in the dmesg output
(acpi_apic_instance=2 and acpi_osi=Linux), first the one then the other
then both, but it didn't do any difference.

Any tips on where to look for solutions would be very much appreciated!

There were 2 problems in the original bug report, and I consider both
RC. The ghc one has been fixed/worked around in an other package that
generated the maintainer scripts.

The dpkg one is one that should be easy to reproduce, I just didn't
see anybody try or suggest that it's not a problem, or that it has been
fixed.

I upgraded from 2.6.29.dfsg-1 to 2.6.30.dfsg-2 and update-mime-database
began to segfault. I reverted back to 2.6.29.dfsg-1, and things started
functioning properly again.

(I also tried rebuilding shared-mime-info against the new version, but
results were the same).

Backtrace follows - /tmp/mime is an exact copy of /usr/share/mime (so I don't
have to
 run as root).

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to
cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a
pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.

Hello there,

I have just upgraded my Debian Sid system and Azureus does not work
anymore.
Steps to reproduce:

1) Install libxml2 version 2.6.30.dfsg-1
2) Open Azureus
3) Try loading a new .torrent file

Here is the output given when starting azureus from a terminal window:

The mentioned file "hs_err_pid14993.log" is *extremely* long and I don't
want to clutter this report. If you think it's relevant, I'll attach it.

Upgrading to java 1.6 does not solve the issue.

Same thing with Evolution: when I start it, the window comes up but it
just crashes. No useful output in the window.

Reverting to 2.6.29 fixes both issues.

Thanks for any help!

Hello,

I'm updating my sid system daily and since yesterday evolution crashes
everytime I start it. Some times I can use it for some seconds.

bug-buddy pops up and I reported some traces to the gnome bugzilla. So
if you need/want them please look at the links:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470977
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470846

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470817
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470816

I checked the gnome bugzilla and there are some more Debian crashing reports
from yesterday which are not from me, so they might be interesting for
you, too:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470885

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470703
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470683

Because there where no evolution upload in the last days it might be
a problem of a dependency but I wasn't able to find the problematic
package.

Package: libxml2
Version: 2.6.30.dfsg-1
Severity: important
Architecture: amd64

I am experiencing random segfaults primarily in Evolution and Firefox,
most often when viewing/modifying settings (Evo) or when downloading
files (Firefox). I ran both through gdb and found they were both
faulting at __xmlParserInputBufferCreateFilename in libxml2.so.

This is a brand new install of unstable on a very new Lenovo Thinkpad
T61. I mention the hardware because I am running unstable elsewhere and
I have not experienced this problem except on this laptop. There is no
other indication that this may be related to the hardware, as everything
else is working normally so far except for these random crashes.

I have also rebuilt the libxml2 packages from deb-src, just to see if
that would help. I got a different backtrace, but Evo crashed just the
same.

A couple backtraces from evolution follow. I'll try to get one from
Firefox and post it as well.

-Mike

Bug#434020: Ok, I admit this is not serious

2007-08-29 Thread Manoj Srivastava
Hi,

The severity serious was a mistake (I was planning on adding the
bit about xtla not following emacsen policy, but then I moved that to
another bug, and failed to edit the severity. My bad.

However, this should be more than a wishlist; emacs21 is old;
and we'll ship lenny with eitrher emacs22 or emacs23; the package
works with emacs22 (and emacs23); and this functionality should be
 present.

I mean, emacs-snapshot is supported, why not emacs22?

Maybe you think it should, but it doesn't...

0.5.15 does not change this behavior from previous versions. 424906
was fixed in that "Quote package names in Perl regex." was changed. -s
and -p will still put all packages in the list to be processed.

Bug#439492: Fixed in new upstream version

2007-08-29 Thread Bas Wijnen
Hi,

Thanks for reporting this. The problem was in the tile-building script,
which used gimp scripting. The new version of the gimp is stricter with
its language rules, so the script no longer worked. I fixed that in the
new upload.

Thanks again,

Bug#428509: OK?

2007-08-29 Thread Filipus Klutiero
Hi Sébastien,
since glibc 2.6-2, Debian's glibc and vanilla glibc are different WRT this
bug. The bug is fixed with Debian's glibc, but not vanilla glibc. It's not
clear whether this is a gcc or glibc bug. Is it OK if we consider this report
to be only about an incompatibility between Debian's glibc and gcc, and thus
fixed, or do you consider the problem a gcc bug which isn't fixed?

Bug#424018: dvi2tty licence clarification needed!

2007-08-29 Thread Kapil Hari Paranjape
Hello,

To summarise this thread we have the following statments from the
major contributors, which ought to have been enough.

On Fri, 03 Aug 2007, Marcel J.E. Mol wrote:

The manner in which Marcel J. E. Mol has kept historical data for
the program needs to be commended, but it is (IMHO) not enough for
DFSG-free-ness in 2007.

The problem is that the code was developed from 1988 to 2003 by
Marcel J. E. Mol under the original non-DFSG license. During this
period a number of patches were provided --- a priori under
the same (non-DFSG) license. The contributors are listed at the top
of dvi2tty.c.

Some of these patches may be irrelevant under gcc+glibc but the
remaining contributors need to be contacted and the issue sorted out.

Regards,

Kapil.

Bug#440137: cultivation: movement with the mouse is broken

2007-08-29 Thread Paul Wise
Package: cultivation
Version: 8.20070809.dfsg1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: game is unplayable

When I try to move my gardener, the place it moves to is different to
where I clicked. No matter where I click I can't prevent it from moving
off the land onto the sea and all the way to the edge of the sea. After
a couple of clicks, every click is vertical, towards the top or the
bottom of the playing area. Also, defining the plot doesn't seem to work
right. Clicking on the controls/buttons for the tutorial and for pause,
quit, pick up water, the seeds and so on works fine though. As a result,
cultivation is completely unplayable here. I have a laptop, with
touchpad and USB mouse, neither work. If this is likely to be a problem
specific to my setup, please downgrade.

Hi Christian,
when does that breakage happen? I'm tempted to downgrade the severity.
