Bug#424018: dvi2tty licence clarification needed!

2007-08-07 Thread Svante Lindahl

Hi all,

As Marcel says, I wrote the original dvitty in Pascal (initially on
TOPS-20, and then later ported to 4.3BSD Unix, and Pyramid OSx).
I have no issues if the dvi2tty is GPL:ed at this time.

Regards,
Svante

That's the part 'as far as I'm concerned'.

But, dvi2tty is in fact my creation.
It is derived from the dvitty program written in Pascal by Svante.
E.g. I am the author of the C version.
So I think I'm entitled to release the code as GPL without further
permission from Svante, but I'm not sure...

I'm not really sure about this, but one thing I've seen expressed on
debian-legal has been that the original author retains copyright over
translations of books, so the same presumably applies to software.

Were there any other significant contributors to the code?

Kinoplus, which previously was an external plugin, has now been merged
into Kino. As such, it's not needed with the version of Kino
currently in unstable, and I'll ask for removal as soon as that
version is ready to enter testing (it's still needed in testing).

Therefore, I don't think I'll work on fixing that bug :-)

Roland.

(The severity above is too high; the package isn't unusable, in fact it
 works for most people.)

This sounds like an issue with your ALSA driver and not really with the
ALSA output of GStreamer. Do you reproduce the problem with "aplay"?

Bug#436166: Workaround

2007-08-07 Thread Ed Hein
The build process complains about missing linux/config.h file. Creating
that file manually with touch resolves that issue; at least lirc_dev
and lirc_serial compile and work properly.

you don't have python2.5-dev in your buildd? How old is it?

PS I'm changing bug's severity to important because I'm pretty sure it's
a problem with your buildd

Excellent. Marcel, could you release a new version with the licencing
clarified please? Then I can upload it to Debian and close the bug.

Incidentally, the dvi2tty Debian package is orphaned, would either of
you like to become the maintainer for it?

Bug#427447: now its gone

2007-08-07 Thread Andrew Sackville-West
Okay, this is wierd. I was continuing to configure this machine on the
assumption that the problem would sort itself out... and lo and
behold, it did with no apparent reason. I do not recall which of my
many aptitude installs did it, but at some point it just stopped
showing up as a package to reconfigure... go figure.

sorry I can't be of more help, but maybe the aptitude logs would help?
If you'd like them, please let me know.

I took a look at this; here is my analysis:

lcd4linux' configure checks for the presence of /usr/include/asm/msr.h,
which is on your buildd. that file contains on my system this:

#ifndef __ASM_STUB_MSR_H
#define __ASM_STUB_MSR_H
# if defined __x86_64__
#  include
# elif defined __i386__
#  include
# else
# warning This machine appears to be neither x86_64 nor i386.
# endif

I can only conclude that you build defines the macro '__x86_64__'
confuses lcd4linux. Which is of course an important bug, but in no way
release critical, IMO.

Do you run sbuild with 'linux32' prefixed, so that tools like 'uname -m'
don't report x86_64?

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on i386.

libwrap0-dev no longer provides libwrap-dev. You need to build-depend on
libwrap0-dev directly.

The full build log is available from
http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2007/08/06

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing a sid i386
environment. Internet was not accessible from the build systems.

Bug#436330: vkeybd: FTBFS: error: linux/awe_voice.h: No such file or directory

2007-08-07 Thread Daniel James

Hi Lucas,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on i386.

oper_awe.c: In function 'seq_open':
oper_awe.c:146: error: 'SAMPLE_TYPE_AWE32' undeclared (first use in this
function)

In the Makefile from the original source package, it says:

# device selections -- multiple avaialble
# to disable the device, set value 0 (do not comment out!)
#
USE_AWE = 1

I believe this relates to proprietary sequencer support for the
seriously obsolete Sound Blaster AWE32 ISA sound card, dating from 1994:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_Blaster_AWE32

According to the oldest entry on this changelog:

http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/v/vkeybd/vkeybd_0.1.17a-2/changelog

vkeybd was split from the awe package, which was removed from sid in
2002, along with the OSS kernel drivers.

Although the AWE32 is supported by ALSA now, I think it's quite safe to
change the Makefile to read USE_AWE=0 and update the description of the
package to remove the reference to AWE32 support.

The alternative would be to make the linux-source-2.6.* package a build
dependency of this vkeybd package; I don't know if that's acceptable in
Debian policy terms. It would keep the retro sound hardware enthusiasts
happy :-)

Cheers!

Daniel

Bug#436206: freemind misses a dependency

2007-08-07 Thread Eric Lavarde - Debian
Hi,

the thing is that FreeMind is supported neither with Java6 nor with gcj.

Currently I'm a bit under water, and I hope to get 0.9.0 "soon" (before
end of the year!? Before next release!?) in Debian, so I might keep the
problem open in the mean time.

Cheers, Eric

Robert Isaac schrieb:

Sorry, but I don't know what you want to tell me...

The "full version" is playable on Sarge when taken from upstream CVS.
How about the Shareware version (or what do you mean by "full version")?
Have you tested the Debian package on amd64-Sarge, too?

What does "32-bit compiled" mean?
Of course ROTT runs on 32-bit systems, we are talking about problems on
64-bit platforms.

However, are you sure you are running an "amd64" flavour kernel in your
Sarge install?!

Cheers,
Fabian

Hi,

I've just got several buildd logs where I get errors like this:
GC Warning: Repeated allocation of very large block (appr. size 524288000):
May lead to memory leak and poor performance.
GC Warning: Out of Memory! Returning NIL!

Logs for the following packages on amd64:
eclipse_3.2.2-2
libxerces2-java_2.9.0-1
libxalan2-java_2.7.0-5

The hosts this happened on has 2 GB of RAM and 4 GB of swap.

eclipse_3.2.2-1 build without problems about a month ago, which was with

Bug#436440: sasl2-bin: saslauthd can not start, if the last config-update is denied

2007-08-07 Thread Daniel Baur
Package: sasl2-bin
Version: 2.1.22.dfsg1-13
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The last config-update added 'NAME="saslauthd"' to /etc/default/saslauthd.
If the root does not accept the changing to this configfile (because he had
of corse did changes in this file), saslauthd can't start because
/etc/init.d/saslauthd searches for this field. There is no warning at the
update, no logline in the syslog - nothing.

2007-08-07 Thread Robert Isaac
> The "full version" is playable on Sarge when taken from upstream CVS.
> How about the Shareware version (or what do you mean by "full version")?

There is no difference between the full retail version and the
shareware version, it is just a compile switch that allows the loading
of more wad files.

> Have you tested the Debian package on amd64-Sarge, too?

Not yet.

> What does "32-bit compiled" mean?

I had compiled the game in a 32 bit chroot on my sarge amd64 box.

The last time I tried the Debian package (and upstream's CVS) they
both crashed on startup in a 32 bit chroot AND in the 64 bit
environment this was on Etch.

Yes.

I know, that's why I was wondering why it should work with the full
version but not with the shareware version which is shipped in the
Debian package.

I had compiled the game in a 32 bit chroot on my sarge amd64 box.

It is *supposed* to work in a 32bit chroot even on a 64bit system.

The last time I tried the Debian package (and upstream's CVS) they
both crashed on startup in a 32 bit chroot AND in the 64 bit
environment this was on Etch.

This is however strange...

Bug#421524: [Pkg-net-snmp-devel] Bug#421524: snmpd uses 100% cpu

2007-08-07 Thread Jochen Friedrich
severity important
tags +upstream
thanks

Hi,

> snmpd is running at 100% CPU on 2 of my systems, and will not respond to
> polls. I have tried the default config file, which has the same effect.

This is also documented upstream at
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1033342&group_id=12694&atid=112694
and
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=465161&group_id=12694&atid=112694.

To eliminate the ipRouteTable at startup, add "-I -var_route" to your command
line arguments
in /etc/default/snmpd and poll ipCidrRouteTable or inetCidrRouteTable instead.

Thanks,
Jochen

The attached patch fixes two problems on powerpc:

  * Define CPUSTRING and ARCH, so e.g. modules are correctly looked
for as *_powerpc.so instead of *_Unknown.so. This is probably
necessary for other architectures as well.
  * Fix the off-by-one definition of HEADER_LUMPS, so the size of
dheader_t is calculated correctly, and all of its members are
byte-swapped as needed. Without this, loading the demo (and
probably at least some maps) fails on big endian systems.

Hi Cyril!

Sorry, I think your "patch" tag is a bit to fast; at least I'm not yet
sure if it's ppracers fault, nor if what's the proper way to fix it.

I'm not yet sure if it's ppracer configure beeing wrong. It's sourcing
/usr/lib/tcl8.4/tclConfig.sh to get those variables, and the script
shipped with tcl8.4-dev_8.4.12-1.1 did contain TCL_INC_DIR. The one
shipped with tcl8.4-dev_8.4.15-1 does not.

So I'm wondering, why Tcls behaviour changed?

Lucas, have there been other Tcl related FTBFS?

BTW:  We don't need to patch configure, Makefiles or configure.in;
calling configure with
"--with-tcl-inc=/usr/include/tcl8.4/tcl-private/generic" works, too.
But before uploading with that change, I would really like to hear input
from tcl maintainers.

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

In fact, it was forgotten during a package upgrade, and I think it
will be restored in the next upload. But anyway, it's a hack, and if
the application doesn't use internal Tcl headers then it would be
better to use TCL_INCLUDE_SPEC variable, which expands to
"-I/usr/include/tcl8.4" (and this directory certainly contains tcl.h).

Cheers!

Hi,

libwrap0-dev no longer provides libwrap-dev. You need to build-depend on
libwrap0-dev directly.

The full build log is available from

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes

environment. Internet was not accessible from the build systems.

Bug#435214: [Pkg-octave-devel] Bug#435214: Bug#435214: Clarification of licensing terms of semidef-oct

2007-08-07 Thread Lieven Vandenberghe

Rafael,

I would prefer the second option, because we don't distribute the
software any longer.

Maybe it is sufficient to replace the old license under the copyright
line in the C file with the standard LGPL header? We can use version
3 or higher of the LGPL, unless Octave has a different policy.

Thanks.

Lieven

Stephen Boyd wrote:

I can see why our license is ambiguous. When we wrote it in 1994,
we intended it to mean that the program is entirely free, for any
purpose (including commercial) and without any restriction.
If it is easier if we switch to a standard free license, I would
choose the LGPL.

Thanks for your reply.
As regards the Debian package, the best situation would be that you
do a new
release of the software with the changed license. If you are not
willing to

do it because semidef_prog is already old software and not maintained
anymore, I will release a new version of the package stating that it
is released now under the LGPL (if Stephen Boyd agrees, of course)
and will add

the URL of this bug report discussion [1].

Hi,
I can't reproduce this locally and it also builds fine on the amd64
buildds:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=gtk-sharp2;ver=2.10.1-3;arch=amd64;stamp=1186506960

Is there anything special about your build environment?

Bye

This is essentially a duplicate of #320335 which you reported.
In the short term at least, you will have to build washngo a different
way (e.g. compile Setup.lhs and run the binary).

If it is a standard Cabal library then you may find
http://urchin.earth.li/pipermail/debian-haskell/2007-June/000322.html
useful.

Bug#436340: Installation freezes during "configure the clock" step

2007-08-07 Thread Luigi Rocca

I spent some more time trying to understand what happens, and I came to the
following conclusions:

The problem seems to occur in the line 29 of the script
/var/lib/dpkg/info/clock-setup.postinst, "db_progress step 1".
If I comment out this line, everything goes on fine.
I'm new to debian, but I guess that it has something to do with the progress
bar (which seems to remain stuck at 0% after this modification, i really can't
tell because the screen changes very quickly).

What happens is quite strange, however. After I noticed that both the systems
I was trying to install on had a negative clock skew of 2 hours or more from the
retrieved UTC time, I experimented a bit with hw clock values (changing them
from
bios) and found out that:
- Only negative clock skew make the script hang.
- The script seems not to hang, but to *wait* an amount of time proportional to
the clock skew found by rdate before going on to the partitioning step.
I've actually tried this with -1s, -30s, -90s...

In the end I was quite curious, so I've tried to search for some documentation
for
db_progress in the debian developer's reference and in the debconf
specification,
but I couldn't find nothing really useful (at first sight, anyway).

Hopefully, with this info the problem should be replicable.

Anyway, I'm sending back the logs of an execution trace of the
lock-setup.postinst
script.

Bug#436490: irqbalance silently dies

2007-08-07 Thread Ritesh Raj Sarraf
Package: irqbalance
Version: 0.55-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

This is the current description of the package in Debian.
irqbalance - Daemon to balance interrupts for SMP systems

My understanding of a daemon is that the process keeps running in the
background. But in case of irqbalance, the process silently exits. There
are no messages logged into syslog or dmesg.

I ran irqbalance in --debug mode and following is the output.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo irqbalance --debug
Package 0: cpu mask is 0003 (workload 0)
Cache domain 0: cpu mask is 0003 (workload 0)
CPU number 1 (workload 0)
CPU number 0 (workload 0)
Interrupt 17 (class ethernet) has workload 59
Interrupt 0 (class timer) has workload 556
Interrupt 8 (class timer) has workload 0
Interrupt 14 (class storage) has workload 1
Interrupt 18 (class storage) has workload 0
Interrupt 15 (class storage) has workload 0
Interrupt 16 (class legacy) has workload 269
Interrupt 20 (class legacy) has workload 200
Interrupt 19 (class legacy) has workload 1
Interrupt 23 (class legacy) has workload 0
Interrupt 22 (class legacy) has workload 0
Interrupt 21 (class legacy) has workload 0
Interrupt 12 (class legacy) has workload 0
Interrupt 9 (class legacy) has workload 0
Interrupt 1 (class legacy) has workload 0

-
IRQ delta is 6917
Package 0: cpu mask is 0003 (workload 5733)
Cache domain 0: cpu mask is 0003 (workload 5733)
CPU number 1 (workload 1771)
  Interrupt 17 (ethernet/307)
  Interrupt 14 (storage/52)
  Interrupt 15 (storage/0)
  Interrupt 16 (legacy/1375)
  Interrupt 19 (legacy/29)
  Interrupt 22 (legacy/0)
  Interrupt 12 (legacy/0)
  Interrupt 1 (legacy/0)
CPU number 0 (workload 3962)
  Interrupt 18 (storage/0)
  Interrupt 20 (legacy/1015)
  Interrupt 23 (legacy/0)
  Interrupt 21 (legacy/0)
  Interrupt 9 (legacy/0)

I tried checking at the irqbalance website but didn't find any document
stating that silently exiting is WAD.
Since irqbalance is graded a daemon, it silently dying is a grave bug to
me.

Ritesh

Bug#433001: libghc6-mtl-dev: package unusable; installation in wrong directories

What exactly goes wrong?

The files are supposed to go into /usr/lib/mtl-1.0.1/ghc-6.6.1 and the
/usr/lib/libghc6-mtl-dev/register.sh script then contains things like

import-dirs: /usr/lib/mtl-1.0.1/ghc-6.6.1
library-dirs: /usr/lib/mtl-1.0.1/ghc-6.6.1

to tell GHC where they are.

Thanks

Your board might not be supported by the i810 driver in Etch. You should
upgrade to Debian testing (xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-11 and
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.0-1).

Either the kernel agpgart and intel_agp modules are not loaded or they
do not support your board.

This should be fixed in testing.

Interrupt 0 (class timer) has workload 556

Interrupt 22 (class legacy) has workload 0
Interrupt 21 (class legacy) has workload 0
Interrupt 12 (class legacy) has workload 0
Interrupt 9 (class legacy) has workload 0
Interrupt 1 (class legacy) has workload 0

  Interrupt 17 (ethernet/307)
  Interrupt 14 (storage/52)
  Interrupt 15 (storage/0)
  Interrupt 16 (legacy/1375)
  Interrupt 19 (legacy/29)
  Interrupt 22 (legacy/0)
  Interrupt 12 (legacy/0)
  Interrupt 1 (legacy/0)
CPU number 0 (workload 3962)
  Interrupt 18 (storage/0)
  Interrupt 20 (legacy/1015)
  Interrupt 23 (legacy/0)
  Interrupt 21 (legacy/0)
  Interrupt 9 (legacy/0)

I tried checking at the irqbalance website but didn't find any document
stating that silently exiting is WAD.
Since irqbalance is graded a daemon, it silently dying is a grave bug to
me.

Let's close this bug.

The code below from irqbalance.c explains the behavior clearly.

It didn't die. It only rebalances once for a single socket, multi-core
system.

Bug#436340: Installation freezes during "configure the clock" step

Luigi Rocca wrote:

Warning: I took a quick peek at the source but I don't know much about
debian-installer internals, this could be wrong.

If this image is using cdebconf with the newt frontend, it looks like
this is caused by newt. In cdebconf/src/modules/frontend/newt/newt.c
in newt_make_progress_bar, it calls newtFormSetTimer(..,1). When
newt_progress_set is later called, this should cause newtFormRun
to return after 1ms of inactivity, returning control to the installer.

However, it looks like newt tries to be too clever with the timeout --
it computes when the next timeout should occur based on when the last
timeout occurred. If the last timeout was at 12:00:00.000, it decides
that the next timeout should be at 12:00:00.001. So if the clock
jumps around between progress bar updates, newtFormRun (newt/form.c)
will do one of two things:
  - if time jumps forward, it will see that it's already past
12:00:00.001 and return immediately -- no problem.
  - if time jumps backwards, it will wait until the time catches up
with 12:00:00.001 -- the "hang" that Luigi noted.

Perhaps, but I'm not playing until music and game loading is fixed.

Technically this bug could be closed as the game no longer crashes on start
with these patches, had not Darren retitled it as having to do with
32bitisms. I don't think there's an awful lot to fix, it probably just needs
fixing all those screenfuls of GCC warnings with proper type changes, as
Darren pointed out. GDB just makes it easy to do incrementally in a manner
that is less likely to break code, and more fun as the exact moment of
corruption can be traced.

May the source be with you,

The best trace you can send me is the execution of jpilot inside gdb.

$ gdb jpilot
(gdb) run
after jpilot has crashed do
(gdb) bt

Also send me your jpilot.rc so I try to reproduce the bug myself.

What did you do to make jpilot crash? a jpilot upgrade? and change in
the configuration? something else?

thanks

Package: bouncy
Version: 0.5.20070616-1
Severity: serious
Justification: crashes

After reading the interview with Miriam, I wanted to try bouncy.

I ran it from gnome-terminal, got a black 'pygame window' window.

Then the window closed and this was produced in the terminal:

$ bouncy
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "game.py", line 188, in ?
game.menu()
File "game.py", line 104, in menu

  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/OpenGL/GL/exceptional.py", line 207,
in glColor
function = glColorDispatch[arrays.GLfloatArray.arraySize( arg )]
KeyError: 1

I'm using the latest freetype, mesa, xorg, intel drivers, etc from sid.

For some reason I can no longer reproduce this issue.

Bug#436321: rake: FTBFS: test_load_rakefile_from_subdir(TestApplication) fails

Don't let yourself be mislead - The relevant part is not that RubyGems
is not installed, but one of the test cases missing: One of the tests
defined in test/test_application.rb is:

  def test_load_rakefile_from_subdir
original_dir = Dir.pwd
Dir.chdir("test/data/unittest/subdir")
@app.instance_eval do
  handle_options
  options.silent = true
  load_rakefile
end
assert_equal "rakefile", @app.rakefile.downcase
assert_match(%r(unittest$), Dir.pwd)
  ensure
Dir.chdir(original_dir)
  end

And of course, if test/data/unittest/subdir does not exist, it just
dies.

I have not dug into this, just looked at the symptom and "cured" it
for me: «mkdir test/data/unittest/subdir» allowed the package to be
built again. But then again, there might be an actual reason this is
failing :) So, of course, feel free to look deeper into it.

Greetings,
