Thanks for your bugreport. We already asked the release team for a
binary upload for i386:

Bug#419035: rott: crashes on start

2007-08-03 Thread Fabian Greffrath

Dear ROTTers,

last weekend I finally found the time to implement what Darren Salt (and
several 64bit-porting documentations the web) suggested and replaced all
unsinged and signed long variables in the ROTT source code with the
corresponfing (u)int32_t variables. Please find the dpatch at:

http://www.geocities.com/fab666_2000/10-32bitisms.dpatch.zip

You need to copy it into the rott-1.0/debian/patches directory and
append '10-32bitisms' to the debian/patches/00list file.

Please rebuild rott on AMD64 and try if it works for you. Please check
especially if sound and writing/loading of savegames work.

If it happens to be still buggy I highly appreciate further help!!!

Thanks for testing!

Cheers,
Fabian

No. The file is fine (it is e.g dists/lenny/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz).
But this gave me the right direction. Here is the output of the slighly
changed code segment (output enclosed by '-' markers)

my $gunzf = gzopen($file, "rb") or die "$file: $!";
my $line;
my $res;
my $loop = 1;
while ($loop) {
  my $buf = "";
  while(($res = $gunzf->gzreadline($line) > 0)
   && !($line =~ /^$/)) {
printf "%u:%s", length($line), $line;
exit;
$buf = $buf . $line;
  }

 2vcard is a little perl script that you can use to convert the popular vcard
 file format. Currently 2vcard can only convert adressbooks and alias files from
 the following formats: abook,eudora,juno,ldif,mutt,mh and pine.
 .
 The VCARD format is used by gnomecard, for example, which is turn is used by
 the balsa email client.

So it is definitly a change in behaviour of gzreadline()

Bug#424018: Some additional information

2007-08-03 Thread Kapil Hari Paranjape
Hello,

On Tue, 15 May 2007 Frank Küster <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Quoting from README by Marcel J. E. Mol:
  The program is basicly an improved C version of the pascal
  program written by Svante Lindahl (see README.ORG).
  I translated it because I could not find a pascal compiler
  on our machine that could compile it.
  The program runs under UNIX and MSDOS without problems
  It should also run under VMS.
  (you may need some site dependend redefinitions, see below).

As far as I can make out dvi2tty.c and all the other source files
in the current package have Marcel J. E. Mol as the author.

The portion of dvi2tty.c quoted by Frank seems to have been put there
by the author as a historical note to clarify that the file is *based*
on the original Pascal program by Svante Lindahl.

IANAL, but as far as I can see, if I read someone else's program and
re-write it in another language, this is not very different from
reading someone else's algorithm and writing it as a program. If the
copyright in the latter case is with the author of the second program,
surely the copyright in the former case would be too.

The C files are in the preferred form for modification and no trace
of the original Pascal source remains in the package.

The copyright holder Marcel J. E. Mol for these source files has put
his work under the GPL and so the package seems to me to be DFSG free.

Regards,

Kapil.

Package: octave2.9
Version: 1:2.9.13-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 7.2

As the subject says, the just uploaded version of octave2.9, 1:2.9.13-1,
declares a Depends on libcurl4 >= 7.16.2-1. libcurl4 was removed from
the archive in favor of libcurl3, to maintain consistency with SO names.
This makes the latest version uninstallable in unstable, whereas the
bin-NMU 1:2.9.12-2+b3 was fine with its dependence on libcurl3-gnutls.

Bug#424018: dvi2tty licence clarification needed!

2007-08-03 Thread Marcel J.E. Mol
As far as I'm concerned, hte license can be changed to fully GPL and
the non-commercial statement can be removed.

Bug#435832: qmake-qt4 fails on HPPA

2007-08-03 Thread Vincent Fourmond
Package: qt4-dev-tools
Version: 4.3.0-5
Severity: serious
Justification: makes other packages FTBS on HPPA

  Hello,

  qmake-qt4 fails miserably on HPPA architectures; the attached
(dummy) project compiles perfectly well on an AMD64 box (and, I
believe, on many other arches), but on HPPA (paer.debian.org), I get
the following error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tests/Dummy$ qmake-qt4
QMAKESPEC has not been set, so configuration cannot be deduced.
Error processing project file: /home/fourmond/tests/Dummy/Dummy.pro

  Just for information:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tests/Dummy$ dpkg -l libqt4-core
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name  Version   Description
+++-=-=-==
ii  libqt4-core   4.3.0-5   Qt 4 core non-GUI functionality
runtime library

  This bug is the cause of many FTBS on HPPA, hence the 'serious'
severity. See for instance:

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=qwtplot3d&arch=hppa&ver=0.2.7-1&stamp=1185789363

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=dc-qt&arch=hppa&ver=0.2.0.alpha-3&stamp=1183700051

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=qwt&arch=hppa&ver=5.0.2-1&stamp=1185752378

  There might be other side effects as well (I strongly suspect that
this might be the cause of a cmake bug, #434584).

  Regards,

Vincent Fourmond

Sounds fine to me, I almost did that, but I didn't read the whole buglog
of #433768, so it could have been unappropriate to do so.

I know, I've seen that for python-apt several times already these days,
and seen that for my own packages thanks to python-central. ;-)

Hi. See #435653.

It's apt's fault, no longer exporting pkgCPU and pkgOS, IIRC. The latest
python-apt (0.7.3.1) no longer uses them.

was right:

The maintainers of the "apt" package has simply removed the pkgCPU variable in
the
upgrade from 0.7.5 to 0.7.6.

I leave it to the apt-listchanges maintainers to choose whether to raise hell
against
the "apt" maintainers for doing such a thing without even mentioning it in the
changelog - or
whether it is not worth the effort - for all I know, the functionality of
apt-listchanges
does not really need this variable.

best regards

>From http://secunia.com/advisories/26099/

DESCRIPTION:
Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Asterisk, which can be
exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and
potentially compromise a vulnerable system.

1) A boundary error exists in the Asterisk STUN implementation, which
can be exploited to cause the application to crash via specially
crafted RTP packets.

Successful exploitation requires that the chan_sip, chan_gtalk,
chan_jingle, chan_h323, chan_mgcp, or chan_skinny is enabled.

The vulnerability is reported in the following products:
Asterisk Open Source 1.4.x prior to version 1.4.8
AsteriskNOW pre-release prior to version beta7
Asterisk Appliance Developer Kit prior to version 0.5.0
s800i 1.0.x prior to version 1.0.2.

2) A boundary error exists in the Asterisk Skinny channel driver
(chan_skinny), which can be exploited to cause the application to
crash via packets that contain a size field smaller than the actual
size of the packet.

Successful exploitation requires that chan_skinny is enabled.

3) A NULL-pointer dereference error exists in the Asterisk IAX2
channel driver (chan_iax2), which can be exploited to cause a DoS via
specially crafted LGRQ and LAGRP frames.

Successful exploitation requires that chan_iax is enabled.

4) A boundary error exists in the Asterisk IAX2 channel driver
(chan_iax2) within the handling of RTP frames. This can be exploited
to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by sending large data payloads
(more than 4096 bytes) in a voice or video frame.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability allows execution of
arbitrary code, but requires that the system is configured to connect
channels that use RTP and IAX channels.

Vulnerabilities #2, #3, and #4 are reported in the following
products:
Asterisk Open Source 1.0.x
Asterisk Open Source 1.2.x prior to version 1.2.22
Asterisk Open Source 1.4.x prior to version 1.4.8
AsteriskNOW pre-release prior to version beta7
Asterisk Business Edition A.x.x
Asterisk Business Edition B.x.x prior to version B.2.2.1
Asterisk Appliance Developer Kit prior to version 0.5.0
s800i 1.0.x prior to version 1.0.2.

SOLUTION:
Asterisk Open Source 1.2.x:
Update to version 1.2.22.
ftp://ftp.digium.com/pub/telephony/asterisk

Asterisk Open Source 1.4.x:
Update to version 1.4.8.

The advisory stated this issue is resolved in version 1.4.1 and later.

It would be useful if you could confirm using S.T.R.E.S.S that the
version in debian unstable does indeed have this issue resolved.

Package: jabber
Version: 1.4.3-3.3
Followup-For: Bug #420081

Hi,

I've also run against this bug.
After returning to the version 1.4.3-3 I've managed to restore the
operability of my jabber server.

While examining the diff between the packages (1.4.3-3.3 and 1.4.3-3),
I've come to the conclusion that this bug appeared in the package after
adding the patch init-openssl.dpatch

for more info see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=405461

For temporary solving this problem You may delete this patch
Delete the string 'init-openssl' from the file
jabber-1.4.3/debian/patches/00list
to correct this bug.

However You should make a reopen for 405461 beforehand.

Package: octave2.9

Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 7.2

As the subject says, the just uploaded version of octave2.9, 1:2.9.13-1,
declares a Depends on libcurl4 >= 7.16.2-1. libcurl4 was removed from
the archive in favor of libcurl3, to maintain consistency with SO names.
This makes the latest version uninstallable in unstable, whereas the
bin-NMU 1:2.9.12-2+b3 was fine with its dependence on libcurl3-gnutls.

It was in response to a private request by doko, for gcc-snapshot.
Maybe I misunderstood and experimental would have been good enough. In
any case, it's my fault for uploading not-quite-good-enough packages
to unstable.

Upstream is back from a scientific conference and focusing on the
release again. I can upload a 2.3.0~rc1.dfsg.1-2 version, with fixes
for the known regressions which caused me to file #433773 (these fixes
are already present in upstream's svn), or wait approximately two
weeks for 2.3.0 final. Which solution makes most sense, from a release
point of view?

Laurent.

Ouch! It seems only double \n's are detected?

Can you also print length($/) around there? Is it zero?

If it is, this could be the source of the problem - it seems
IO::Compress::Base (which actually implements the gzreadline function)
supports several modes, $/ == '' provoking the "paragraph mode".

I guess Compress::Zlib's gzreadline() should add "local $/ = ''" before
passing the call further to preserve the previous interface.

If you confirm that $/ is indeed empty and setting it to '\n' solves the
problem, I'll prepare a fix.

  OK... I propose to leave this bug open and mark it as blocked by
#433768, so no one reports it again. What do you think ?

  This is one of the drawbacks of reassigning bugs: it leaves no trace
in the original package (at least as shown by reportbug), so we can't
see that the problem has already been reported.

That's the part 'as far as I'm concerned'.

But, dvi2tty is in fact my creation.
It is derived from the dvitty program written in Pascal by Svante.
E.g. I am the author of the C version.
So I think I'm entitled to release the code as GPL without further
permission from Svante, but I'm not sure...

I have not been able to contact Svante for a long time (can't even remember
getting in conact with him in the first place), so I guess this is all I
can do for now...

Bug#435807: git-core: git-am (hence git-rebase and many others) is broken

2007-08-03 Thread Pierre Habouzit
tag 435807 - experimental
found 435807 1:1.5.2.4-1
retitle 435807 git-am fails if there is a file named `;' in the .git/ directory
severity 435807 minor
thanks

  Okay, as I was pissed I downgraded git-core, and it still failed. In
fact, it happens that for whatever reason I had a file named ';' created
in my .git/ directory, and it made everything go bersek.

  But as it's not really supposed to happen, here is an updated severity
for the bug :)

I tried that, it gave the following error:

After some pleasant tinkering with GDB (didn't use that for ages) and fixing
various things I managed to make it start a game; the graphics and gameplay
at the beginning seem normal. Sound works, but music is just a loud humming.
Loading a game produces segfault.

I've got other things to do for the time being, so I don't plan to see into
these issues any time soon. Hope somebody else will do that :)
By the way, GCC just screams about these issues in it's warnings, like
===
rt_actor.c: In function ‘FindAddresses’:
rt_actor.c:1004: warning: cast from pointer to integer of different size
rt_actor.c:1012: warning: cast from pointer to integer of different size
===
Probably fixing all these warnings in the first place will solve the issues.

The patch is attached. I wonder what is the scheme of working on packages in
Debian is --- surely it's something more advanced than cp/diff I used?

> Thanks for testing!

No problem, thank you for your support.

Bug#435844: apt-listchanges fails to start

2007-08-03 Thread Peder Chr. Nørgaard
Package: apt-listchanges
Version: 2.74
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Today the invocation of apt-listchanges from an "apt-get dist-upgrade" failed
for
me with the following output:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/apt-listchanges", line 28, in ?
import apt_pkg
ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/apt_pkg.so: undefined symbol:
pkgCPU

Obviously, this is not an error in apt-listchanges itself, but a change in some
of the packages on which apt-listchanges rely. Playing around with downgrading
of recently upgraded packages has led me to believe that the error is caused by
the upgrade of the package apt itself from 0.7.5 to 0.7.6. The 0.7.6 version is
dated August 1st 2007. The file mentioned in the error message (apt_pkg.so)
belongs to the package python-apt which is also updated very recently. But
downgrading
it does not fix the problem.

Knowing very little about the inner working of apt-listchanges or apt itself I
refrain from making more guesswork.

This is the result of a bug in python-apt, which is fixed in version 0.7.3.1
of that package.

Bug#424445: Proposed patch for #424445 (turkey FTBFS)

2007-08-03 Thread Cesare Tirabassi
After further investigations, the problem seems to be the use of the GCJ
based java.
Indeed by switching environment to sun java (for instance with sudo
update-alternatives --set
java /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java), the package runs without
any problem.

Yes, setting it to $/="\n" fixes my problem and I get only one line from
gzreadline() as result.

I talked to waldi and maks and it seems to be a duplicate of #434040, so I
reassign this bug to linux-libc-dev.

Hello,

I believe petsc 2.3.3-1 now builds, since the new suitesparse and
openmpi were uploaded. Can you please try to build it and see if it
installs properly?

Unfortunately, I can't force the buildds to retry building it, so I
don't know when it will enter unstable.

Thanks,

Bug #425803 (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=425803)

  apt-get --reinstall install texlive-base-bin texlive-base

The state of this bug seems to be a little confusing to me.

libnet-perl 1.20 was never in Debian, the latest version we had was
1.19 and it's only available in oldstable (sarge). It's now in
perl-modules (since 5.8.0-7?).

It was originally reported against amavisd-new 1:2.4.2-6.1 which is the
version in sarge, and sarge has perl version 5.8.8-7.

The version of perl this was then reported against was 5.8.8-7, which
seems to have version 1.19 in it as far as I can see. It also says that
upgrading to 5.8.8 solved it, so I have to wonder from which version
to which version that was.

This all seems to contradict each other.

Can someone please lists the combinations of Debian packages and
versions that either have the problem, or don't have the problem?

Hello Pierre,

I don't think it's a bug but probably a limitation of your OpenGL
driver.

Which graphic card/driver do you use and how much memory do you have on
it?
Can you try: glxinfo -l|grep GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE

Maybe we should add a check in the wrapper.

if ! glxinfo | grep "direct rendering: No"; then
  zenity --error "missing direct rendering" --text "You're OpenGL installation
doesn't support direct rendering. If you have an NVIDIA or an ATI card you'll
probably need to install the propritary driver."
fi

WARSOW_MIN_TEXTURE_SIZE=2048
if [ "`glxinfo -l|grep GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE| sed 's/.*= //'`" -lt
"$WARSOW_MIN_TEXTURE_SIZE" ]; then
  zenity --error "texture is too large" --text "You're graphic card doesn't
doesn't have enough memory to launch Warsow."
fi

This add two new dependency (mesa-utils and zenity) and we need to deal with
i18n stuff.

Cheers,

Gonéri

Bug#429533: new proposal: boost-config

2007-08-03 Thread Domenico Andreoli
Hi,

Suppose two systems, a Fedora based on gcc 4.1 and a Debian based
on gcc 4.2, both sporting Boost 1.35.0 built with --layout=system,
for simplicity.

Now Joe User writes his app on the Fedora system and links Boost.DateTime
using the familiar -lboost_date_time switch. He builds the app and
tries it on both his Fedora system and the friend's Debian one. What is
going to happen?

BTW, the user is a free software developer and his app is going to be
ported also to other Microsoft, UNIX and popular embedded operating
systems, where Boost has been built mixing --layout=system and
--layout=versioned. Now he faces the problem of linking to the Boost
library of interest. How he is supposed to solve the problem?

This is a new summary of the binary and source portability problems
that current build system is inflicting on the Boost libraries.

My proposal is:

 1) dump the --layout= thing, versioned/decorated sonames are always used

 2) provide symlinks like the following, when appropriate:

/usr/lib/libboost_date_time-gcc42-1_34_1.so ->
libboost_date_time-gcc42-1_34_1.so.1.34.1
/usr/lib/libboost_date_time-gcc42-d-1_34_1.so ->
libboost_date_time-gcc42-d-1_34_1.so.1.34.1
/usr/lib/libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-1_34_1.so ->
libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-1_34_1.so.1.34.1
/usr/lib/libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-d-1_34_1.so ->
libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-d-1_34_1.so.1.34.1

 3) provide also these symlinks, if desired:
/usr/lib/libboost_date_time.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-1_34_1.so
/usr/lib/libboost_date_time-d.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-d-1_34_1.so
/usr/lib/libboost_date_time-mt.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-1_34_1.so
/usr/lib/libboost_date_time-mt-d.so ->
libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-d-1_34_1.so

 4) add more decorations as required. e.g. Python version to Boost.Python
library name. This way multiple Boost.Python libraries, every built
with a different Python version, could coexist on the same system.

 5) provide a program, say boost-config, that may be invoked to find the
right build parameters for a given library, toolset and variant(s).

some examples (suppose default compiler is gcc 4.0, the one used to build
Boost):

$ boost-config --name=DateTime --ldflags
-lboost_date_time-gcc40-1_34_1

$ boost-config --name=DateTime --toolset=gcc-4.1 --variant=mt,d --ldflags
-lboost_date_time-gcc41-mt-d-1_34_1

$ boost-config --name=Threads --toolset=gcc-4.2 --ldflags
-lboost_threads-gcc42-mt-1_34_1

$ boost-config --name=DateTime --toolset=gcc-4.2 --variant=python-2.5
--ldflags
Error: unknown variant python-2.5 for the given library

$ boost-config --name=Python --variant=python-2.4 --ldflags
-lboost_python-gcc40-python24-1_34_1

$ boost-config --name=Python --toolset=gcc-4.2 --variant=python --cxxflags
-I/usr/include/python

if toolset is omitted, the default system compiler is used, if any
(e.g. cc/c++ under linux), otherwise an error is reported.

Point 1) is really optional. In case --layout is kept, the subsequent
points would be related only to --layout=versioned and --layout=system
should be documented as source of any sort of portability issues.

Point 2) is required only on UNIX systems where GNU ld is used, it
might have not sense with other linkers. Every linker has its own story.

Point 3) is applicable only where 2) is and would be handy only when
source portability is not an issue, to the user discretion. Big warning
about source portability should be placed nearby its documentation.

Point 4) would allow packaging Boost.Python on distributions in which
multiple versions of Python may be available.

Point 5) is the way to the complete source portability, at least across
sane systems (read, probably not Windows/MSVC). Note that if Boost is
built using a compiler different from the one asked to boost-config,
the linker will complain about the inexistent library. It would be
easy to make boost-config extract allowed parameter combinations from
an XML file built by Boost.Build at build time.

That's all, good night.

Package: libcompress-zlib-perl
Version: 2.005-1
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

After the upgrade to version 2.005-1 debmirror decided to delete my
whole debian mirror. And as i didn't pay attention during debmirror
updates this is really annoying.

The corresponding debmirror code is here:

 851 my $gunzf = gzopen($file, "rb") or die "$file: $!";
 852 my $line;
 853 my $res;
 854 my $loop = 1;
 855 while ($loop) {
 856   my $buf = "";
 857   while(($res = $gunzf->gzreadline($line) > 0)
 858 && !($line =~ /^$/)) {
 859 $buf = $buf . $line;
 860   }
 861   if ($res <= 0) { # <  THIS IS ALWAYS TRUE AFTER THE UPGRADE
 862 $loop = 0;
 863 next;
 864   }

I debuged it with print statements and found out the the above marked if
statement is alwasy true after the upgrade and thats why the code further down
the while statement is never reached.

I'm not sure if this is actually a problem in debmirror or in
libcompress-zlib-perl,
but as it worked before the upgrade it seems naturally to report the bug here.

Downgrading the packet fixed my problem. But now to downloading the mirror :-(
