Bug#419035: rott: crashes on start
Dear ROTTers, last weekend I finally found the time to implement what Darren Salt (and several 64bit-porting documentations the web) suggested and replaced all unsinged and signed long variables in the ROTT source code with the corresponfing (u)int32_t variables. Please find the dpatch at: http://www.geocities.com/fab666_2000/10-32bitisms.dpatch.zip You need to copy it into the rott-1.0/debian/patches directory and append '10-32bitisms' to the debian/patches/00list file. Please rebuild rott on AMD64 and try if it works for you. Please check especially if sound and writing/loading of savegames work. If it happens to be still buggy I highly appreciate further help!!! Thanks for testing! Cheers, Fabian -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#424018: Some additional information
Hello, On Tue, 15 May 2007 Frank Küster <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > so this is unclear. I'm still filing as serious, since others have > treated this program as non-free for a while, e.g. CTAN, and recently a > SuSE license team research brought it up. Quoting from README by Marcel J. E. Mol: The program is basicly an improved C version of the pascal program written by Svante Lindahl (see README.ORG). I translated it because I could not find a pascal compiler on our machine that could compile it. The program runs under UNIX and MSDOS without problems It should also run under VMS. (you may need some site dependend redefinitions, see below). As far as I can make out dvi2tty.c and all the other source files in the current package have Marcel J. E. Mol as the author. The portion of dvi2tty.c quoted by Frank seems to have been put there by the author as a historical note to clarify that the file is *based* on the original Pascal program by Svante Lindahl. IANAL, but as far as I can see, if I read someone else's program and re-write it in another language, this is not very different from reading someone else's algorithm and writing it as a program. If the copyright in the latter case is with the author of the second program, surely the copyright in the former case would be too. The C files are in the preferred form for modification and no trace of the original Pascal source remains in the package. The copyright holder Marcel J. E. Mol for these source files has put his work under the GPL and so the package seems to me to be DFSG free. Regards, Kapil. -- signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Sid *may* be unaffected based on version number. >From http://secunia.com/advisories/26099/ DESCRIPTION: Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Asterisk, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) and potentially compromise a vulnerable system. 1) A boundary error exists in the Asterisk STUN implementation, which can be exploited to cause the application to crash via specially crafted RTP packets. Successful exploitation requires that the chan_sip, chan_gtalk, chan_jingle, chan_h323, chan_mgcp, or chan_skinny is enabled. The vulnerability is reported in the following products: Asterisk Open Source 1.4.x prior to version 1.4.8 AsteriskNOW pre-release prior to version beta7 Asterisk Appliance Developer Kit prior to version 0.5.0 s800i 1.0.x prior to version 1.0.2. 2) A boundary error exists in the Asterisk Skinny channel driver (chan_skinny), which can be exploited to cause the application to crash via packets that contain a size field smaller than the actual size of the packet. Successful exploitation requires that chan_skinny is enabled. 3) A NULL-pointer dereference error exists in the Asterisk IAX2 channel driver (chan_iax2), which can be exploited to cause a DoS via specially crafted LGRQ and LAGRP frames. Successful exploitation requires that chan_iax is enabled. 4) A boundary error exists in the Asterisk IAX2 channel driver (chan_iax2) within the handling of RTP frames. This can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow by sending large data payloads (more than 4096 bytes) in a voice or video frame. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability allows execution of arbitrary code, but requires that the system is configured to connect channels that use RTP and IAX channels. Vulnerabilities #2, #3, and #4 are reported in the following products: Asterisk Open Source 1.0.x Asterisk Open Source 1.2.x prior to version 1.2.22 Asterisk Open Source 1.4.x prior to version 1.4.8 AsteriskNOW pre-release prior to version beta7 Asterisk Business Edition A.x.x Asterisk Business Edition B.x.x prior to version B.2.2.1 Asterisk Appliance Developer Kit prior to version 0.5.0 s800i 1.0.x prior to version 1.0.2. Hello, * Steve Langasek [Fri, Aug 03, 2007 at 01:32:54AM -0700]: > > > This release candidate version of MPFR is not yet ready for release > > and should not propagate to testing. > > Then why did you upload it to unstable before the fix for RC bug #430273 had > had a chance to reach testing? It was in response to a private request by doko, for gcc-snapshot. Maybe I misunderstood and experimental would have been good enough. In any case, it's my fault for uploading not-quite-good-enough packages to unstable. Upstream is back from a scientific conference and focusing on the release again. I can upload a 2.3.0~rc1.dfsg.1-2 version, with fixes for the known regressions which caused me to file #433773 (these fixes are already present in upstream's svn), or wait approximately two weeks for 2.3.0 final. Which solution makes most sense, from a release point of view? Laurent. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It seems only double \n's are detected? Can you also print length($/) around there? Is it zero? If it is, this could be the source of the problem - it seems IO::Compress::Base (which actually implements the gzreadline function) supports several modes, $/ == '' provoking the "paragraph mode". I guess Compress::Zlib's gzreadline() should add "local $/ = ''" before passing the call further to preserve the previous interface. If you confirm that $/ is indeed empty and setting it to '\n' solves the problem, I'll prepare a fix. -- damJabberID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Indeed by switching environment to sun java (for instance with sudo update-alternatives --set java /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java), the package runs without any problem. The state of this bug seems to be a little confusing to me. libnet-perl 1.20 was never in Debian, the latest version we had was 1.19 and it's only available in oldstable (sarge). It's now in perl-modules (since 5.8.0-7?). It was originally reported against amavisd-new 1:2.4.2-6.1 which is the version in sarge, and sarge has perl version 5.8.8-7. The version of perl this was then reported against was 5.8.8-7, which seems to have version 1.19 in it as far as I can see. It also says that upgrading to 5.8.8 solved it, so I have to wonder from which version to which version that was. This all seems to contradict each other. Can someone please lists the combinations of Debian packages and versions that either have the problem, or don't have the problem? Which graphic card/driver do you use and how much memory do you have on it? Can you try: glxinfo -l|grep GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE Maybe we should add a check in the wrapper. if ! glxinfo | grep "direct rendering: No"; then zenity --error "missing direct rendering" --text "You're OpenGL installation doesn't support direct rendering. If you have an NVIDIA or an ATI card you'll probably need to install the propritary driver." fi WARSOW_MIN_TEXTURE_SIZE=2048 if [ "`glxinfo -l|grep GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE| sed 's/.*= //'`" -lt "$WARSOW_MIN_TEXTURE_SIZE" ]; then zenity --error "texture is too large" --text "You're graphic card doesn't doesn't have enough memory to launch Warsow." fi This add two new dependency (mesa-utils and zenity) and we need to deal with i18n stuff. The package has the following dependency line in debian/control: Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, cinepaint-data (= ${Source-Version}) ${Source-Version} should of course not be used for dependencies of arch: any packages against arch: all packages; this should be ${source:Version} instead. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#429533: new proposal: boost-config
Hi, Suppose two systems, a Fedora based on gcc 4.1 and a Debian based on gcc 4.2, both sporting Boost 1.35.0 built with --layout=system, for simplicity. Now Joe User writes his app on the Fedora system and links Boost.DateTime using the familiar -lboost_date_time switch. He builds the app and tries it on both his Fedora system and the friend's Debian one. What is going to happen? BTW, the user is a free software developer and his app is going to be ported also to other Microsoft, UNIX and popular embedded operating systems, where Boost has been built mixing --layout=system and --layout=versioned. Now he faces the problem of linking to the Boost library of interest. How he is supposed to solve the problem? This is a new summary of the binary and source portability problems that current build system is inflicting on the Boost libraries. My proposal is: 1) dump the --layout= thing, versioned/decorated sonames are always used 2) provide symlinks like the following, when appropriate: /usr/lib/libboost_date_time-gcc42-1_34_1.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-1_34_1.so.1.34.1 /usr/lib/libboost_date_time-gcc42-d-1_34_1.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-d-1_34_1.so.1.34.1 /usr/lib/libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-1_34_1.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-1_34_1.so.1.34.1 /usr/lib/libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-d-1_34_1.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-d-1_34_1.so.1.34.1 3) provide also these symlinks, if desired: /usr/lib/libboost_date_time.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-1_34_1.so /usr/lib/libboost_date_time-d.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-d-1_34_1.so /usr/lib/libboost_date_time-mt.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-1_34_1.so /usr/lib/libboost_date_time-mt-d.so -> libboost_date_time-gcc42-mt-d-1_34_1.so 4) add more decorations as required. e.g. Python version to Boost.Python library name. This way multiple Boost.Python libraries, every built with a different Python version, could coexist on the same system. 5) provide a program, say boost-config, that may be invoked to find the right build parameters for a given library, toolset and variant(s). some examples (suppose default compiler is gcc 4.0, the one used to build Boost): $ boost-config --name=DateTime --ldflags -lboost_date_time-gcc40-1_34_1 $ boost-config --name=DateTime --toolset=gcc-4.1 --variant=mt,d --ldflags -lboost_date_time-gcc41-mt-d-1_34_1 $ boost-config --name=Threads --toolset=gcc-4.2 --ldflags -lboost_threads-gcc42-mt-1_34_1 $ boost-config --name=DateTime --toolset=gcc-4.2 --variant=python-2.5 --ldflags Error: unknown variant python-2.5 for the given library $ boost-config --name=Python --variant=python-2.4 --ldflags -lboost_python-gcc40-python24-1_34_1 $ boost-config --name=Python --toolset=gcc-4.2 --variant=python --cxxflags -I/usr/include/python if toolset is omitted, the default system compiler is used, if any (e.g. cc/c++ under linux), otherwise an error is reported. Point 1) is really optional. In case --layout is kept, the subsequent points would be related only to --layout=versioned and --layout=system should be documented as source of any sort of portability issues. Point 2) is required only on UNIX systems where GNU ld is used, it might have not sense with other linkers. Every linker has its own story. Point 3) is applicable only where 2) is and would be handy only when source portability is not an issue, to the user discretion. Big warning about source portability should be placed nearby its documentation. Point 4) would allow packaging Boost.Python on distributions in which multiple versions of Python may be available. Point 5) is the way to the complete source portability, at least across sane systems (read, probably not Windows/MSVC). Note that if Boost is built using a compiler different from the one asked to boost-config, the linker will complain about the inexistent library. It would be easy to make boost-config extract allowed parameter combinations from an XML file built by Boost.Build at build time. That's all, good night. Bug#435656: marked as done (Change in behaviour of gzreadline() caused debmirror to delete my whole mirror)
Your message dated Sat, 04 Aug 2007 05:32:02 + with message-id <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and subject line Bug#435656: fixed in libcompress-zlib-perl 2.005-2 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) --- Begin Message --- Package: libcompress-zlib-perl Version: 2.005-1 Severity: serious --- Please enter the report below this line. --- After the upgrade to version 2.005-1 debmirror decided to delete my whole debian mirror. And as i didn't pay attention during debmirror updates this is really annoying. The corresponding debmirror code is here: 851 my $gunzf = gzopen($file, "rb") or die "$file: $!"; 852 my $line; 853 my $res; 854 my $loop = 1; 855 while ($loop) { 856 my $buf = ""; 857 while(($res = $gunzf->gzreadline($line) > 0) 858 && !($line =~ /^$/)) { 859 $buf = $buf . $line; 860 } 861 if ($res <= 0) { # < THIS IS ALWAYS TRUE AFTER THE UPGRADE 862 $loop = 0; 863 next; 864 } I debuged it with print statements and found out the the above marked if statement is alwasy true after the upgrade and thats why the code further down the while statement is never reached. I'm not sure if this is actually a problem in debmirror or in libcompress-zlib-perl, but as it worked before the upgrade it seems naturally to report the bug here. Downgrading the packet fixed my problem.
