The regression here is that libgsf 1.114.4-1 introduced changes
that broke applications not calling gsf_init() and using 'dynamic'
stream types like gzipped input.

This is #431104, and I'll send more details there.

In this case, libgsf is used by librsvg, which calls gsf_init() from
rsvg_init(). So instead of disabling .svgz support, we should just call
rsvg_init() from the constructor. Patch attached; this fixes the test
failures for me.

I'll forward this upstream as well.

I think Image::LibRSVG->isGzCompressionSupported() is just an internal
function to make it easier to disable .svgz support if needed. The zlib
linkage comes from libgsf through librsvg.

Since you moved files from git-core to git-gui, git-gui needs a

Bug#431541: timeout is already free according to author

Actually for another project I've had some contact with Wietse Venema
(upstream author) about this in 2004, and received the following response:

| > Thanks for pointing that out. I have downloaded tct 1.15 from
| > http://www.porcupine.org/forensics/tct.html. However in timeout.c there
| > is no copyright notice, so from README.FIRST and MANIFEST, I conclude,
| > that it's copyright is governed by COPYRIGHT, which says nothing about
| > derivative works:
|
| Dan's files fall under COPYRIGHT, and mine fall under LICENSE.
| timeout is my program, not his.
| Thus, timeout is distributed under the IBM public license. The
| sole omission is a line in the C source and man page that says:
|
| LICENSE
|The IBM PUBLIC LICENSE must be distributed with this
|software.
|
| Attached is a version with the missing line added.
|
| Wietse

I've attached Wietse's updated timeout aswell.

So there's no problem with timeout, other than that debian/copyright may be
updated and the package may rather use the attached version to make things
clear. If you need the full original email just let me know.

As for the rest of the coroner's toolkit the problem might still exist, but
contacting Farmer and Venema about it can be useful.

> Since there are a few packages that depend on timeout, and this program is

Great, but this doesn't seem needed.

Hi,

While reviewing packages that were not included in Etch, your package came
up as a possible candidate for removal from Debian, because:

* Release Critical Bugs
* Orphaned
* Low popcon stats

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from Debian,
please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree, sending the following commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
should do it (after replacing nn with this bug's number):

For more information, see

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please just
close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues.

Hi there!

 Due to the recent removal of apache (including it's accompanied
packages of apache-common, apache-dbg, apache-dev, apache-doc,
apache-perl and apache-ssl) and libapache-mod-perl your package most
propably isn't able to get installed or built anymore. These are the
problems your package currently has:

libapache-mod-gzip (dependency): apache-common (>= 1.3.29.0.2-5)

 Please either send the ftp team a removal request for your package if
it isn't able to work with apache2, or update it to build (only)
packages for apache2.

 Thanks in advance,

Hi,

here is the problem on my system:

Setting up list (2.0.0-1) ...

chgrp: invalid group `stats'

It is caused by this incorrect group existence test in
/var/lib/dpkg/info/list.postinst:

if [ "${stats}" == ""  ]; then
addgroup --system stats

This test does not work on my system because /etc/group contains the
following line:

remstats:x:146:www-data

Therefore I propose that you replace the test with:

stats=`grep ^stats /etc/group 2>/dev/null`

Hi,

While reviewing packages that were not included in Etch, your package came
up as a possible candidate for removal from Debian, because:

* superfluous because of mozilla removal?

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from Debian,
please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree, sending the following commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
should do it (after replacing nn with this bug's number):
severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM:  -- RoM;
thanks

For more information, see

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please just
close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues.

Package: babygimp

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I heard about this in private email from a user a month or so ago. I
realized today while fixing #395577 that this user never bothered to
file an official bug report as requested (I was out of the country at
the time I received the email).

It doesn't look like babygimp works with the current version of perl-tk
(804.027 as of this writing).

   Name "Load::VAR1" used only once: possible typo at /usr/bin/babygimp
   line 6874.
   Scanning plugins ... loading 0 plugins ... done
   Can't coerce CODE to string in entersub at /usr/lib/perl5/Tk/Widget.pm

at /usr/bin/babygimp line 575

This sort of error occurs for most of the rest of the similar lines
around line 575 (i.e. commenting out this line doesn't make a
difference).

I've already written upstream (Christian) to see if he can fix it any
time soon. I guess if he can't, I'll request that babygimp be removed
from Debian.

Hi!

Based on the package names, I suspect cyrus-sasl2-mit share the same
source package as the cyrus-sasl2 package, and that the problem below
might get fixed automatically when cyrus-sasl2-mit is updated to use
the latest cyrus-sasl2 sources (see #365183), but as far as I can
tell, it isn't guaranteed that this will happen automatically, hence
this report.

This source package contains the following files from the
IETF under non-free license terms:

cyrus-sasl-2.1.19.dfsg1/java/doc/draft-weltman-java-sasl-02.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
   license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
   the upstream archive and adding a 'dfsg' version name to it.

3. Move the package to non-free.

General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal
or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: "Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in
source packages".

Thanks,
Simon

lukemftp has been renamed upstream to tnftp. tnftp is already packaged
in Debian, so there seems to be no need to maintain an obsolete lukemftp
package as well.

I have asked the release managers to remove this package from etch, but
they suggested that I open a bug report and solicit the maintainer's
comments before they can do that. So, here it is. Should this package
be released with etch?  Why?

Hello all...

Since the very, very less interest in this project and many frozen
and abrasive words against this project and the sense behind this
service, we've now decided to close the service. There's no sense in
continuing with this service since there's no interest in it.
This project exists since three years and there are only 372
registered systems and nearly no comment in the
hardware-database... this says all... :(

This also includes the irc-bot "Linux-Stats" and the
irc-channel-statistics, which are already disabled and closed.
The client is already closed and disabled too and will not be
able to submit any further data to the project.

Many, many thanks to all who has supported this project and
who has used it until now!

Sorry for this.

Hello.

libsasl2 was recently removed from the archive, so the control file of
this package should be updated to depend on libsasl2-2 instead.

Dear all,

since upgrading the whole apt infrastructure aptitude is horrible slow
in loading the cache. The problem as mentioned on the status line in
aptitude is the
Intializing package status
which takes some minutes on a rather new Intel Core2, so not an old
processor. Formerly that took a few seconds.

This happened with the upgrade of
apt -> 0.7
aptitude -> 0.4.4-4+b1

Thanks a lot

Package: orca
Severity: serious

When trying to install orca in the current unstable distribution, it
fail to install because it have a versioned depend on the virtual
package librrd0. It seem rrdtool providing librrd0 changed, and the
orca package didn't get updated to match the change. A quick search
show that librrd2 is the current library version.

The last orca upload was 2004-07-19. rrdtool switched from librrd0 to
librrd2 with the upload 2005-08-14. This make me suspect the package
maintainer Abraham vd Merwe is missing or inactive.

This is the output when I try to install it

This package has been identified as affected by the removal of php4 in debian.

As php4 will soon be removed, it is very important that we:
 - update the dependencies of all applicable packages to coexist with php5
 - remove source and/or binary packages which have no use without php4

for more information on what may need to be done, please see

if you have any questions, please contact the debian php maintainers

Seems that both texlive-latex-base and texlive-generic-recommended build
dependencies are missing, texlive-latex-base for lcircle10.mf and
texlive-generic-recommended for epsf.tex (where build will fail later if
only texlive-latex-base is added)

Tested with attached patch,

  Eh? I meant 0.4.5.3-1. Maybe that's not available on your

Suure. Which unrelated software? OpenOffice.org breaking itself? This is
ridiculous. Neither does it fullfill the "breaks the whole system"
criterium.

So next time please choose a sane severity.

I'll try on my i386 when I am home but I bet it won't happen anywhere (I
would have gotten reports earlier then..) so it's hardly even "grave".

And you probably could also have written what you did *into* the report
instead of just the subject...

Package: vdrift
Version: 0.0.2006.10.06-1
Severity: serious
Justification: release policy, "Packages must be supported on as many
architectures as is reasonably possible"

Hi Gonéri,

The vdrift package is marked as only being buildable on amd64, i386, ia64,
and powerpc. This is wrong; the code builds fine on alpha, arm, and mipsel,
and is only prevented from being uploaded by this architecture list.

I see in the bug log of 400596 that a member of the security team has
offered the opinion that vdrift should not be built on arm because there's
no need for a "3d-intense game" on an embedded arch, but this reasoning does
not apply to alpha and mipsel which are not embedded architectures and may
very well have suitable 3d-accelerated hardware.

Please reenable the build on alpha and mipsel. The attached patch should
suffice.

Cheers,

It appears that inter_module_register() and inter_module_unregister()
have been removed from kernel 2.6.18. Since all drivers in this

I'd provide a patch, but I haven't found the current replacements or

Package: tpctl
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package useless

Hi,

the thinkpad source package has a grave bug: It cannot be compiled
against the etch Linux kernel (that is 2.6.18). As such, thinkpad is
useless and thus so is tpctl.

People fixing this should also update the package description to mention
that its only supported on [567]*, A[23]*, T2*, R[34]*, X20 series, but
not the more recent ones (e.g. X40, R50).

I'll mark this bug as blocked by the thinkpad package one as soon as I
get the bug numbers.

Kind regards

T.

Package: thinkpad
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package useless

Hi,

the thinkpad-source (even for version 6.0 as in the pkg-tpctl svn.d.o
repository) fails to compile into a kernel module with 2.6.18, destined
to be the etch Linux kernel.
This makes this package useless for practical purposes.

People fixing this should also update the package description to mention
that its only supported on [567]*, A[23]*, T2*, R[34]*, X20 series, but
not the more recent ones (e.g. X40, R50).

I will file a seperate bug for tpctl and tag that as blocked by this but.

Kind regards

T.
