Hi I have now removed the motd update code all together as it is generated at reboot anyway, so there are no use for it. I have uploaded a version to unstable with that correction. Please test it to see if it works well for you. If it do I'll try to get it into the etch stable release if possible. This is a duplication of bug #416502 but this is with the Stable
instead of Test.
The system was upgraded from the previous stable using aptitute.
Currently apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade nor apt-get check do
not report any conflicts or missing dependencies. Every other service
but squid functions OK.
The service, when started from /etc/init.d/squid terminates
immediately with no log files generated. When run with strace, there
is a core file in the current directory.
Bug #416502 mentions that the test version of Etch had out-of-date
packages, hence the first check.

This is a duplication of bug #416502 but this is with the Stable
instead of Test.
The system was upgraded from the previous stable using aptitute.
Currently apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade nor apt-get check do
not report any conflicts or missing dependencies. Every other service
but squid functions OK.
The service, when started from /etc/init.d/squid terminates
immediately with no log files generated. When run with strace, there
is a core file in the current directory.
Bug #416502 mentions that the test version of Etch had out-of-date
packages, hence the first check.

The mount process stopped in an uninterruptable sleep for a long time (many minutes). It was impossible to kill it, even with the KILL signal, and using umount, even with the -f or -l option, just returned the error message "not mounted". I got exactly the output () from the first message in this bug report on my Sun Ultra 10, which I tried to upgrade from Sarge to Etch. (Which is now unbootable, as for some reason the 2.6.8 kernel doesn't boot either, it seems it has problems finding the kernel modules...)
