2007-04-10 Thread Thomas Weber
Package: octave2.9

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Octave 2.9.10 doesn't play well with the current octave2.9-forge packages in

reassign 416506 libgnomekbd1,libgnomekbdui1 2.18.0-1
close 416506 2.18.1-1
thanks

Hi,

After upgrading libgnomekbd1 and libgnomekbdui1 from 2.18.0-1 to
2.18.1-1, the gnome-screensaver dialog appears and seems to work.
Also, the keyboard switcher applet loads and works.

I am not sure which one of libgnomekbd1 and libgnomekbdui1 was causing
the problem and I no longer have the 2.18.0-1 versions to check.

Thanks for packaging 2.18.1

Happy Etch!

Bug#418505: vegastrike: empty packages [sudo and $(PWD)]

2007-04-10 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: vegastrike
Version: 0.4.3.debian-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package inusable

The package is empty on alpha, mips, and mipsel. These are the
architectures whose buildds use sudo instead of fakeroot. The problem
is using $(PWD) in debian/rules, since that gets unset by sudo.

The proposed fix is to use $(CURDIR) (set by make) instead

I had the same problem but logging out/in solved that.

Bug#418506: gambas2-gb-db-firebird: empty package on !i386

2007-04-10 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: gambas2-gb-db-firebird
Version: 1.9.48-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

As seen on packages.debian.org [1], the gambas2-gb-db-firebird package
is empty on !i386. These empty packages are unusable, hence the 'grave'
severity.

It looks like the reason is that firebird2-dev isn't available on other
architectures, as you note in the build dependencies. Please indicate
that in the gambas2-gb-db-firebird Architecture: entry too, don't specify
"any".

Yes, I did log out/in numerous times :)

And upgrading libgnomekbd[ui]1 to 2.18.1-1 seems to fix it.

Bug#418508: libooc-vo: Please remove this package from unstable

2007-04-10 Thread Nathanael Nerode
Package: libooc-vo
Severity: serious
Justification: All of it

This package has been unbuildable for over a year and uninstallable for some
time
as well. It also hasn't been updated since 2003.

Users would be better served at this point to go directly upstream for sources.
If and when you prepare a new, functional version of the package, do please
upload it. Until then (unless that is going to happen very soon) please remove
this package from unstable.

If this bug sits without response for several months, I will ask the ftpmasters
to remove the package myself.

Bug#417597: vserver-debiantools: newvserver modifies /etc/motd of host system

2007-04-10 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

I have now removed the motd update code all together as it is generated
at reboot anyway, so there are no use for it.

I have uploaded a version to unstable with that correction. Please test it
to see if it works well for you. If it do I'll try to get it into the etch
stable release if possible.

so, after running:

newvserver --hostname practice --ip 192.168.1.55/24 --domain localnet \
   --dist etch --mirror http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian --interface
eth0

i find the /etc/motd on the host system contains:

Debian GNU/Linux (etch/i686) practice.localnet

looking into /usr/sbin/newvserver, i see this:

# Create a shorter motd (uname -a would give name of host-server)
echo "Debian GNU/Linux ($DIST/$(uname -m)) $VHOST.$VDOMAIN" \
> "$VROOTDIR/$VHOST/etc/motd"

but VROOTDIR and VHOST are set at that point in the script, and
/var/lib/vservers/practice/etc/motd gets created properly...

i just tried again, with another hostname, and it happened again...

i'm perplexed.

Bug#418473: /usr/share/doc/cdrecord empty

2007-04-10 Thread Sam Morris
Josh, I have the same behaviour here. Though I believe I went cdrecord
-> wodim + cdrecord (transitional) -> wodim alone; then when I installed
multicd, cdrecord was pulled back in--so the symlink really should have
been created.

Package: lvm2
Version: 2.02.24-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

I upgraded from 2.02.06 to 2.02.24 and got a 'PANIC: circular
dependancy' on boot. Downgrading back to 2.02.06, rebooting with a
previous linux image and running dpkg-reconfigure on the current
linux-image fixed the problem.

dpkg-reconfigure used mkinitramfs-kpkg to make the initrd.

The system information below follows the downgrade.

All the Best, Peter

Thank you for your report - but I don't think that where /usr/bin/python
points to is anywhere related to Mailman. I'm reassigning it to python
for now.

Bug#418547: squid fails with Squid Parent: child process xxxxxx exited due to signal 6

2007-04-10 Thread Hakan Koseoglu

Package: Squid
Version: 2.6.5-6
Severity: grave
Justification: Loss of service

This is a duplication of bug #416502 but this is with the Stable
instead of Test.
The system was upgraded from the previous stable using aptitute.
Currently apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade nor apt-get check do
not report any conflicts or missing dependencies. Every other service
but squid functions OK.

The service, when started from /etc/init.d/squid terminates
immediately with no log files generated. When run with strace, there
is a core file in the current directory.

Bug #416502 mentions that the test version of Etch had out-of-date
packages, hence the first check.

Bug#418560: at: fails to execute jobs

2007-04-10 Thread Christoph Pleger
Package: at
Version: 3.1.10
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I tried to execute a simple job (creating a file) as user root on
several machines, but on none of the machines the file has been
created. I can see that execution of the job was started (atq shows
that the job is running), but it never ends and no mail is sent to me.
I also tried other users and other jobs (e.g. executing a shutdown),
none of them was completed successfully.

Package: Squid
Version: 2.6.5-6
Severity: grave
Justification: Loss of service

This is a duplication of bug #416502 but this is with the Stable
instead of Test.
The system was upgraded from the previous stable using aptitute.
Currently apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade nor apt-get check do
not report any conflicts or missing dependencies. Every other service
but squid functions OK.

The service, when started from /etc/init.d/squid terminates
immediately with no log files generated. When run with strace, there
is a core file in the current directory.

Bug #416502 mentions that the test version of Etch had out-of-date
packages, hence the first check.

Package: squid
Version: 2.6.5-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

In the default configuration of squid it won't start.

In the syslogging one gets:
Squid Parent: child process 17587 exited due to signal 6
a few times then it dies.
No cache.log is written.

If you check syslog on your system you'll see that squid is failing
because of missing epoll() support in your kernel.

A kernel >= 2.6 with epoll support enabled is needed to run squid in
etch (see Bug#377697). This was stated in README.Debian and in Etch
Release Notes. Please upgrade your kernel.

Hi Steve

I've misunderstood the binary-indep intent; sorry for the bother it has
caused you. I've rearranged rules as you suggested and the updated

Hi John,

Your changelog for splay 0.9.5.2-8 says that you've done:

  * Renamed debian/rules binary-arch target to binary-indep
and added empty binary-arch target. (closes: #395772)

This is totally broken, and not what bug #395772 requested. The
binary-indep target is for *building packages that are Architecture: all*.
You're using it to build a package that's Architecture: any, which means
that splay now fails to build on all buildds because the package is built in
the wrong target. Please fix this by restoring the correct binary-arch
target and adding an empty *binary-indep* target.

Thanks,

Bug#418503: [Pkg-octave-devel] Bug#418503: octave2.9: Must not enter testing

I think this is unfortunate since Octave is useful on its own without
Octave Forge and I think 2.9.10 is much better than 2.9.9. Also, for
those who must have some or all of Octave Forge, there is now a way to
install it using Octave's pkg function.

Hopefully, this will be a temporary situation, until we fix the problem with
the octave2.9-forge package. Debian 4.0 (a.k.a. etch) was recently released
and contains 2.9.9. Even if 2.9.10 entered testing, it is too late now for
the regular Debian users who are using the stable distribution.

We are discussing about back porting 2.9.10 (and probably also the new

As it has already been deprecated in README.Debian and the upgrade path
from bind to bind9 can hardly be done in an automated manner, it should
be sufficient to simply have bind8 removed? Or should we add a note
into the release notes for Lenny?

Bug#418629: iceweasel: every mozilla based application, except epiphany, crashes when loading a site

2007-04-10 Thread Patrizio Bruno
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.3-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Every time I try to load a remote page, mozilla based browsers (except epiphany)
do crash. This doesn't happen when they are ran as root or when opening a
local file.
I know that without debugging symbols, the stacktrace is pretty unuseful, but
I hope it could help to reproduce the bug

Below a stacktrace of a iceape's crash:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Ok, but we first should use all available php maintainer manpower to address
the MOPB issues. While for Sarge it looks relatively moderate, it should be
fixed for Etch rather sooner than later.

Current breakdown available at:

That's it: ORB_init() takes a parameter only since recently. Depending
on python-pyorbit (>= 2.14) should probably be fine.

Bug#418642: missing dependency on rpm

2007-04-10 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: smartpm
Version: 0.50~rc1-1
Severity: serious

I don't have the rpm package installed. Starting smart --gui yields

smart --gui
error: Unable to open /usr/lib/rpm/rpmrc for reading: No such file or
directory.
error: can't create transaction lock on /var/lock/rpm/transaction

and the app quits immediately. Same for smart --shell.

smarpm is either missing a dependency on the rpm package or the rpm
support should be disabled when rpm is not found.

Filing with severity serious because without rpm installed the software
is unusable.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#418653: failed XFS mount was impossible to abort

2007-04-10 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: linux-image-2.6.17-2-k7
Version: 2.6.17-9
Severity: serious

After doing an LVM snapshot of my /home, I tried to mount it with the
nouuid option, as it is XFS. The mount process stopped in an
uninterruptable sleep for a long time (many minutes). It was impossible
to kill it, even with the KILL signal, and using umount, even with the
-f or -l option, just returned the error message "not mounted".

The dmesg output last 3 lines were:

Filesystem "dm-22": Disabling barriers, not supported by the underlying device
XFS mounting filesystem dm-22
Starting XFS recovery on filesystem: dm-22 (logdev: internal)

Neither halt, nor reboot nor shutdown had any effect, I had to use the
Magic Keys to reboot. After a reboot, the operation of mounting the
snapshot succeeded as usual.

Bug#418654: Package rdesktop 1.5.0-1 segfaults with libx11-6 1.0.3-7 installed

2007-04-10 Thread TMC

Package: rdesktop
Version: 1.5.0-1
Severity: grave

My OS: Debian 4.0, as per apt-get update via mirrors at 11/04/2007.
Exceptions to package load noted below:

rdekstop segfaults on successful login into a Windows 2000 or a
Windows 2003 server.
Some testing showed that this behavrious started since libx11-6
1.0.3-7 was intalled.
Downgrade to libx11-6 1.0.3-6 fixes the problem.

Bug#418656: asterisk-config: Asterisk-config and asterisk 1:1.4.2~dfsg-4 both contain /etc/default/asterisk

2007-04-10 Thread James Andrewartha
Package: asterisk-config
Version: 1:1.4.2~dfsg-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

If I apt-get -t experimental install asterisk, I get the following error:

see #374535, it's the GNU_TYPE, not the Debian architecture.

I sent this to the author to be sure that it was a bug or just some

and mention the same problem I had. I hope this helps at all. :)

K3b 1.0-1 pulls in libk3b3 but does not remove libk3b2. This causes the
program not to launch.

Once that libk3b2 is removed, it works great.

hi,

while running archive wide piuparts tests your package failed on purge
because of debconf beeing unavailable during postrm:

Purging configuration files for flashybrid ...
  /var/lib/dpkg/info/flashybrid.postrm: line 7: /usr/share/debconf/confmodule:
No such file or directory

the full log can be found here:

 http://people.debian.org/~abi/piuparts/flshybrid

please be sure to use a conditional call to debconf:

 if [ -f /usr/share/debconf/confmodule ]; then
. /usr/share/debconf/confmodule
 fi

Please also note: Bugs filed on Packages failing in postrm because of debconf
beeing unavailable are not considered RC for etch, so are tagged etch-ignore.

Yes, that's what I told Kartik on IRC, but unfortunately the orca setup
fails for me in yet another way after that.

Bug#392312: Ouch

2007-04-10 Thread Bilderbeek, Manuel
I got exactly the output () from the first message in this bug
report on my
Sun Ultra 10, which I tried to upgrade from Sarge to Etch. (Which is now

unbootable, as for some reason the 2.6.8 kernel doesn't boot either, it
seems it has problems finding the kernel modules...)

What can I do to help and to recover?
