Bug#400675: kernel-patch-openvz: OpenVZ-Patch does not apply to Debian-Kernel
Hi Thanks for the report. Yes 2.6.17 is not supported, because 2.6.18 is the version that will be shipped in etch. I'll contact upstream about this issue. The kernel team have moved to 2.6.18.3 according to the changelog in http://packages.qa.debian.org/l/linux-2.6/news/20061123T193153Z.html Kir, Kiril or Vasily: Can you help me to get a applyable version of the kernel patch? Argh! Thank you for persisting with this. I have now looked at the code and you are right it does not do the same thing. This is because when Yura ported my $LogFile code from the kernel for some unknown to me (or forgotten by me) reason he did not integrate clearing the journal into the mount process. He integrated the checking but not the clearing. This is a HUGE and VERY BAD bug in libntfs and means that all ntfs utilities are _DANGEROUS_ to run and can cause massive and very hard to detect data corruption. )-: No wonder Vista does not boot!!! It is amazing it took so long to find this problem. I cannot believe we managed to get away with it for so long... I have now fixed this in CVS. Could you update, compile, and try again? Once just with ntfsresize (the one in current CVS) and if that still does not work, once with ntfsresize + immediate ntfsfix (the one in current CVS without the my change that you put in). If that still does not fix it then once with ntfsresize + immediate ntfsfix (the one in current CVS but with my change that you put in again). In an ideal world, just ntfsresize will now be sufficient. If not ntfsfix should work first time. And if not I need to look at it further! Thanks! Bug#396630: squashfs broken on amd64
retitle 396630 needs rebuild and ABI bump for 2.6.18-2 thanks Hi waldi, it is now nearly a month ago when I submitted this bug. In the meantime, I pinged you at least three times about it, where you've choosen to answer others but not to me. This is not like I wanted to have it work out. Giving all the "control" up to you and the kernel-team for building the modules binary packages implies, that you're actually taking care of it, because we, the module-source maintainers have no influence anymore on it. Please also note that Debian Live relays critically on the availability of unionfs and squashfs module packages - since a month we can't build any images anymore. This is a serious drawback. Please, do something now. Otherwise, I'm NMU'in on sunday. Maybe it is even better to take back the binary-modules into the unionfs-source package if linux-modules-extra-2.6 stays unmaintained. It never actually unmounted the volume, just exited which was very rude of it! Using the latest ntfsresize/libntfs combination on my Vista data partition I can now run ntfsresize to change the size of a partition then immediately run Vista and it boots, runs chkdsk automatically, and then continues to boot to completion. Yey. (-: Frans, it would be great if you could verify it is fixed for you when resizing the system partition also. Assuming you say it works I think it is time for a new ntfsprogs release which we can rubber stamp as "Vista compatible". When the resizing is over then the latter is consistent and the old one is irrelevant. ntfsresize doesn't work like the other utilities: mount, modify, umount. It works like: mount and morph the original into a new one. Szaka -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It works like: mount and morph the original into a new one. Looking at the source code, you appear to be holding the ntfs_volume in your "resize" structure and then use it everywhere to write to the volume. For example you keep calling write_mft_record() which just calls the libntfs provided ntfs_mft_record_write()... So you better have that ntfs_volume be a consistent view of the volume at any point in time or things will break anyway... I cannot see anywhere you having two different ntfs_volume structures. Apologies if I have missed it. Perhaps you can point out the code to me where you have two volumes as I cannot see it... However, given things still work, and given that ntfsresize now works for Vista for me when it did not do so before I would say unmounting is both safe and required for ntfsresize. There is a strict order in what and when is relocated. At some point ntfs_volume is mostly used only for reading and a new NTFS gets written. Anything must be modified before it gets relocated, never afterwards. There is a > strict order in what and when is relocated. At some point ntfs_volume is > mostly used only for reading and a new NTFS gets written. That is not true, at least not in the code that I am reading here! It may have been your intention perhaps but you failed to code it... Look: relocate_inodes() -> relocate_inode() -> at the end of the function calls write_mft_record() which uses the ntfs_volume and the libntfs function ntfs_mft_record_write() to do the writing. After that we have truncate_badclust_file() and truncate_bitmap_file() both of which use write_mft_record() also... After that we have update_bootsector() and then ntfsresize is finished. So the only thing that does not use the ntfs_volume for writing is the final update_bootsector() call... If you consider it safe to call ntfs_mft_record_write() right until the end of ntfsresize execution you must also consider it safe to unmount the volume up to that point. What am I missing? > Anything must be modified before it gets relocated, never afterwards. > Your change broke this very serious rule. Yes, and I do not see anything wrong with that. ntfsresize should keep the ntfs_volume in sync at all times and then it can be safely unmounted. If it does not do that than ntfsresize is arguably broken by design. Remember that what you were doing was not working for Vista and it works now... Anyway, given ntfsresize is your code, if you want to insist on not allowing unmounting, then can you please tell me the exact point in the code at which unmounting becomes dangerous/wrong and we can turn it off at that point by simply doing "g_vol = NULL;" in the code at that point. >From what you have said so far that point in time should be the call to prepare_volume_fixup(), do you agree? If yes, then simply adding g_vol = NULL; to the end of prepare_volume_fixup() would do the trick... I have done this now (see CVS). Happy now? Certainly but given it was broken to start with "works for me" and "never works for Vista" is more like the real comparison here and the "works for me" is a big improvement... I guess that in this context "being mounted" is something different than the filesystem being mounted from a linux filesystem point of view? Szakacsits' statements do make me wonder though what happens if you do (try to) mount/unmount a resized NTFS partition after resizing it, maybe using the available "force" options. It also makes me wonder what happens when linux is shut down. Does it get unmounted then after all or is that not relevant as the partition is not mounted from a linux point of view? pgpeECmV8d9Mk.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#400483: fmit - narrowed it down a bit....
Hi, Actually, my AMD64 works with sarge, so I tested fmit with a new chroot environement with a debian unstable installed tomorrow, so with latest versions of packages. I didn't meet this bug, I cannot reproduce it, fmit run well in my case. It is why I ask to you to test in the same conditions. You can install fmit in new chroot environnement, without alsa installed, it will permit to know if it is a problem of alsa. Thank you for your tests. Regards -- .---. I didn't have time to check the patches yet but wasn't the Vista problem due to a bug in libntfs and not because of ntfsresize? You seem to mix here two different problems: the missing log file reset in libntfs and the unsafe umount you introduced by another patch to ntfsresize because you thought that it was missing by accident. > Anyway, given ntfsresize is your code, if you want to insist on not > allowing unmounting, then can you please tell me the exact point in the > code at which unmounting becomes dangerous/wrong I must think about it. Bug#400694: marked as done (preseeding tasksel/first etc has no effect)

(NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) --- Begin Message --- Package: preseed Version: 1.03 Severity: serious Tag: patch I made a kde CD that preseeds tasksel/first=kde-desktop, but this doesn't work, kde-desktop is not automatically installed. Indeed, it's commented out in /var/lib/preseed/log, and the code that populates the debconf db in /target skips it. So tasksel/first is only preseeded in cdebconf, and does not have an effect, except to cause cdebconf to not show the question. This results in debconf getting the default answer of the question instead of the preseeded value. Even if I uncomment it, it still won't work, because preseed's post-base-installer hook only copies values not owned by d-i over to debconf. - Log variables preseeded from the environment in the preseed log file, but leave them commented out, since environment preseeding is typically used for one-off overridding, and we don't want preseeded debconf/priority or the like to affect the installed system. Probably. To fix this, it seems that env2preseed would need to both not comment out the lines, as well as make them be owned by something other than d-i. Although as the changelog comment above notes, it opens the possibility for other values specified by the user on the kernel command line and only intended to override d-i behavior to be saved into the installed system. According to my tests, this patch should work: Index: env2debconf === --- env2debconf (revision 42928) +++ env2debconf (working copy) @@ -38,7 +38,7 @@ else type=unknown fi - echo "#d-i $var $type $val" >> /var/lib/preseed/log + echo "unknown $var $type $val" >> /var/lib/preseed/log db_fset "$var" seen true IFS=$NEWLINE fi (NB: Unless the owner is set to the actual right package name somehow, it also will cause these items to enter the debconf db with a second owner, which will prevent them from being removed when tasksel is purged, but this is a lesser problem.) -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-2-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: preseed Source-Version: 1.22 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of preseed, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: env-preseed_1.22_all.udeb to pool/main/p/preseed/env-preseed_1.22_all.udeb file-preseed_1.22_all.udeb to pool/main/p/preseed/file-preseed_1.22_all.udeb initrd-preseed_1.22_all.udeb to pool/main/p/preseed/initrd-preseed_1.22_all.udeb network-preseed_1.22_all.udeb to pool/main/p/preseed/network-preseed_1.22_all.udeb preseed-common_1.22_all.udeb to pool/main/p/preseed/preseed-common_1.22_all.udeb preseed_1.22.dsc to pool/main/p/preseed/preseed_1.22.dsc preseed_1.22.tar.gz to pool/main/p/preseed/preseed_1.22.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#400795: lphdisk: bad syscall stuff completely nukes parition table and MBR
Package: lphdisk Version: 0.9.1-2 Severity: critical Tags: patch Justification: causes serious data loss / breaks whole system The latest few versions of lphdisk completely and utterly break the system. If run, lphdisk destroys the entire MBR and parition table. I've tracked this down at least partially to a bunch of broken syscall stuff in the Debian patches. The following patch makes it work correctly without corrupting anything by getting rid of the broken syscall stuff completely. I can't guarnatee that this fixes it for everyone, but without this patch or another fix, anyone running this program would nuke their entire system. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-2-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages lphdisk depends on: ii libc62.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries lphdisk recommends no packages. -- no debconf information Only in lphdisk-0.9.1.working/debian: files Only in lphdisk-0.9.1.working/debian: lphdisk Only in lphdisk-0.9.1.working/debian: lphdisk.substvars Only in lphdisk-0.9.1.working/debian: stamp-makefile-build Only in lphdisk-0.9.1.working/: lphdisk diff -ur lphdisk-0.9.1/lphdisk.c lphdisk-0.9.1.working/lphdisk.c --- lphdisk-0.9.1/lphdisk.c 2006-11-28 11:47:57.0 -0700 +++ lphdisk-0.9.1.working/lphdisk.c 2006-11-28 11:26:55.0 -0700 @@ -112,23 +112,6 @@ typedef long long lloff_t; -#ifdef SYS__llseek - -#define _llseek(fd, offset_high, offset_low, result, origin) \ - syscall(SYS__llseek, fd, offset_high, offset_low, result, origin) - -lloff_t llseek (unsigned int fd, lloff_t offset, unsigned int origin) { - lloff_t result; - int retval; - - retval = _llseek (fd, ((unsigned long long) offset) >> 32, - ((unsigned long long) offset) & 0x, - &result, origin); - return (retval == -1 ? Most of the patches are simple fixes, but there's a few things of note: 1) freebsd/3.x/src/lib/libc/stdio/vfprintf.c had to be replaced completely (with the one from oskit/freebsd/src/lib/libc/stdio/vfprintf.c) as I couldn't figure out any way to fix this on short of rewriting. 2) The use of "-I-" (deprecated with gcc 4.x) has been replaced with -iquote, which is currently supported. 3) The output format in kern/x86/multiboot_info_dump.c is a bit of a guess, as there isn't much detail available on what the "%b" flag to printf was meant to do. 4) The "$(MAKE)" line in debian/rules needs to become: $(MAKE) -C $(BUILD_TREE) OSKIT_EXCLUDED_SUBDIRS="examples/x86/sproc examples/x86 examples/x86/extended examples/x86/threads examples/x86/entropy" This is because the whole examples folder fails with the error ld: rndunittest: Not enough room for program headers (allocated 3, need 4) Section to Segment mapping: Segment Sections... 00: LOAD: .text .fixup .fini .rodata __ex_table 01: LOAD: .ctors .dtors 02: LOAD: .data .bss 03: STACK: ld: final link failed: Bad value (With "rndunittest" being various program names). To be honest, having fixed all of these, given the problems in 4) and the lack of upstream support, I'd say this shouldn't be released with etch. Beware that if you run the program on a directory that contains symbolic links for other purposes that are named in the same format as those created by this program they will be lost. (The manpage is based on the source code, but you could argue it's documented behaviour) The patch seems to be doing 2 things: - Also look for .crt files - Try with "-inform der" I think that also looking for .crt files would be a good thing. The default output is PEM, so I have no idea why you added der support. This isn't a bad thing, but I think I'll rewrite the patch a little. Bug#400383: Doesn't seem to affect IMAP folders
Hi, I wasn't able to reproduce the problem in the upstream bug report with IMAP folders. I opened the offending emails with mutt and sent them to my IMAP account. I could see all of the messages in 1.5.0.8. I can verify that I could only see one of the messages if the folder was local, as per upstream report. Thus, current version 1.5.0.8 results in data loss. There is also a patch in the upstream report that supposedly corrects this data loss regression. - Adam -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#379628: [Linux-NTFS-Dev] Bug#379628: Bug#379628: CALL FOR HELP: Vista beta compatibility testing
Hi, Please note that the patch as it is has a very awkward side effect: Every time you run ntfsresize and either you answer "no" to the "really proceed" question or ntfsresize aborts without doing anything because it hits a "this is not supported" case or you try to resize to a too small size or anything like that the volume is left dirty thus running ntfsresize again then fails. This is because ntfsresize does not unmount the volume. My complete patches up to CVS head cause the unmounting to happen but only until all the checks have passed and ntfsresize is about to start migrating clusters around. At that point, before the first modification happens, I turn off the unmounting and from then on ntfsresize will run and independent of when it is going to stop (abort or complete), it will no longer unmount like Szaka wants it to be. Then the volume is left dirty which is what you want to happen anyway. Could you test the attached patches against ntfsprogs 1.13.1? It is my attempt at a backport for the first patch from Anton which seems to have agreement from Szaka. ntfsprogs-1.13.1-rename-MS_.diff is just a rename orgy to make backporting easier and has to be applied first. ntfsprogs-1.13.1-vistahotfix.diff is a stripped version of Anton's first patch. Bug#383465: Contains obfuscated source code, DFSG violation?
I found some interesting links about this topic: http://cvsweb.xfree86.org/cvsweb/xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/vga256/drivers/nv/Attic/README.RIVATNT.diff?r1=1.1.2.2&r2=1.1.2.3&hideattic=0&only_with_tag=xf-3_3_3 and http://cvsweb.xfree86.org/cvsweb/xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/vga256/drivers/nv/Attic/nv3driver.c.diff?r1=1.1.2.5&r2=1.1.2.6&hideattic=0&only_with_tag=xf-3_3_3 If nvidia already 'forced' XFree86 to obfuscate their source code, it doesn't seem unlikely that they require obfuscation of the source for the 'nv' driver too. -- Sam Morris http://robots.org.uk/ PGP key id 1024D/5EA01078 3412 EA18 1277 354B 991B C869 B219 7FDB 5EA0 1078 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#397316: marked as done ('-setpag' with latest openafs 1.4.2 and kernel 2.6.17 doesn't work anymore)
Your message dated Tue, 28 Nov 2006 21:17:02 + with message-id <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and subject line Bug#397316: fixed in libpam-openafs-session 1.0-6 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) --- Begin Message --- Package: libpam-openafs-session Version: 1.0-5.1 Severity: important Hello, I'm using pam_krb5.so and pam_openafs_session.so to log into my machine via /bin/login or kdm. I'm getting a tgt and afs ticket but no afs tokens are inserted into the kernel. It seems that the '-setpag' option in the call to the aklog program does not work anymore with recent kernels (e.g. 2.6.17.13) and latest openafs version 1.4.2. This was also discussed on openafs-devel. See this posting: https://lists.openafs.org/pipermail/openafs-devel/2006-October/014396.html I changed the sources and removed the '-setpag' option. Now it works but I have no idea which side effekts this may have. I am using Debian GNU/Linux testing (etch), kernel 2.6.17.13 Latest upgrade on 3. Nov 2006. (Closes: #359452) * Use the direct AFS syscall interface to create a PAG and to remove tokens rather than relying on aklog -setpag and forking unlog. This should work properly with OpenAFS 1.4.2 and current Linux kernels. (Closes: #161367, #396045, #397316) * The test for when to remove tokens was reversed, causing tokens to be removed only if this module didn't create them. Reverse the test, which means the module will now start removing tokens at logout as was originally intended. (Closes: #399013) * Always create PAGs when sessions are opened. (Closes: #264902) * Add some missing includes to the PAM module source. * debian/rules cleanup: - Use $(CURDIR) rather than `pwd`. - Remove unnecessary and commented-out debhelper invocations. * Avoid test -a in postinst. * Update to standards version 3.7.2 (no changes required). * Update to debhelper compatibility level V4. * Add a reference to the location of the GPL to debian/copyright since it's one of the licenses under which the module can be distributed. * Add myself to Uploaders.
