It has been moved to ~/.lyx, so it's not a problem.

True, but they are not created if lyx is run in batch mode (i.e.,
non-graphical). configure.py is not run, that is. I'm going to file a
bug in lyx bugzilla.

We also need to remove these files from /usr/share/lyx when upgrading.

Package: krecord

Severity: grave
Tags: sid

Hello,

This is a grave bug filed against your package because it depends on
libqt3c102-mt, which no longer exists, thus rendering yor package
uninstallable in unstable. As part of the C++ ABI transition, this
library has moved to the libqt3-mt package.

Simply recompiling and uploading your package should be enough to fix
this; as per this mail [1], you need not bump your Qt, kdelibs or aRts
build-dependencies. Beware, though, that that may not be the case for
all the involved librares. Also, make sure that you build the package
in an up to date and clean sid environment, so that final dependencies
are correct. Please do this as soon as possible in order to accelerate
  the Qt/KDE transition to testing.

[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/09/msg0.html

Perhaps you find that your package fails to compile with gcc4. If
that's the case, there's probably a bug about it in the BTS, and it
may include a patch. If not (or if you have doubts about the
correctness of the patch), you may be able to find a fix in upstream's
CVS, or in the Ubuntu distribution. If your package fails only in arm,
m68k, and hppa, see instructions in the above mail.

Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not
be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will
read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay
  their upload.

Thanks for your cooperation, and happy hacking!

P.S.: There may be an already reported bug against this package for
this very same reason. I've checked for that, and will be merging the
bugs soon. The reason for still filing this bug was to have the
opportunity of including the small bits of information above. I
  apologize for the inconvenience.

I'm quite sure that the product is not working anymore with the updated
products we have in unstable (eg. zope-formulator, zope-cmf1.6), and
upstream seems stopped. In my opinion, we should drop it.

Are you working on this?

Or even better, contact upstream to ask them if the situation can be resolved.

Package: uim

Hi

Your package fails to build (on a couple of architectures, one of them
being alpha) with:

In file included from uim-scm.c:57:
slib.c: In function 'get_user_type_hooks':
slib.c:548: warning: cast increases required alignment of target type
slib.c: In function 'gc_protect_n':
slib.c:2313: warning: cast increases required alignment of target type
slib.c: In function 'init_storage_1':
slib.c:2580: warning: cast increases required alignment of target type
slib.c:2583: warning: cast increases required alignment of target type
slib.c:2591: warning: cast increases required alignment of target type
slib.c:2621: warning: cast increases required alignment of target type
slib.c: In function 'allocate_aheap':
slib.c:2742: warning: cast increases required alignment of target type
slib.c: In function 'gc_mark_and_sweep':
slib.c:2976: warning: cast increases required alignment of target type

This is because of the CFLAGS '-Wcast-align -Werror' and must_malloc
that returns a char* that gets casted to the type one wants to allocate
memory for.

One of the solutions (tested on escher.debian.org) to make it build
again is to remove the --enable-debug in debian/rules as that option
introduces -Werror in the CFLAGS. I'm not sure it will run ok if you
have this warnings in the build process though?

Cheers

Luk

Bug#378411: Buffer overflow in XML::Parser::Expat triggered by utf8

2006-08-07 Thread Joris van Rantwijk
On Sat, 2006-08-05 at 14:12 -0400, Joey Hess wrote:
> Would just calling Encode::decode_utf8 on the input string in Expat.pm
> be the simplest fix?

I'm not sure, but I think not.
First of all, in the case I reported, the parser reads directly from an
input stream. The data is then not touched by Expat.pm, but handled
internally in Expat.xs.

It seems to me that the reported overflow can not be triggered in the
case where a string (as opposed to a stream) is passed to XML::Parser.
It also seems to me that XML parsing on a string will proceed correctly
regardless of whether the string is logical Unicode or raw UTF8, since
both kinds of strings are essentially the same at the level of Perl
internals.

Secondly, the cause of the reported stream parsing problem is not that
Expat does not handle UTF8 data; it handles that fine. The problem is
that it *expects* raw UTF8 bytes but, in my case, gets logical Unicode
characters instead. It breaks on that because of an invalid assumption
in the buffer management code.

I dived into Expat.xs again and believe I have a simple fix that stops
the buffer management from overflowing the heap. Due to Perl's identical
internal treatment of utf8 and Unicode, this should be all that is
necessary to enable correct parsing of Unicode streams.

My patch is attached.
Basic testing suggests that it works as intended. But I have very little
experience with Perl XS coding, so I would recommend that somebody
reviews this before it is applied anywhere.

Thanks for pushing this forward a bit; we should get it fixed.

Joris.

PS. (and slightly off-topic) My personal opinion is that Perl has
utterly messed up Unicode handling. The documentation uses the terms
"Unicode" and "UTF8" as if they were interchangable. In fact, and as we
see with this bug, there is a very important conceptual difference
between "a string containing N raw utf8 bytes" and "a string containing
M logical Unicode characters".

Package: python-iconvcodec

We are going to drop python2.1 and python2.2 from the archives. Please
stop building the

   python2.1-cjkcodecs,python2.2-cjkcodecs

binary packages.

Is this module/package still needed, when python 2.4 becomes the
default python version in Debian? Upstream did include the cjkcodecs
in python2.4.

Package: atari800
Version: 1.3.2-1
Severity: serious

Hello,

This is a serious bug filed against your package because it
build-depends on xlibs-dev, which as announced in [1] a while ago, is
no longer available in sid. This makes your package fail to build from
  source.

[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00022.html

To fix this bug, you need to update your build-dependencies and
substitute xlibs-dev for the list of individual X development
libraries that your package needs to be built. You can find detailed
information about how to do that in the DependsXlibsDev wiki page [2].

[2] http://wiki.debian.org/DependsXlibsDev

As indicated by the Release Team [3], the full transition from XFree86
to Xorg is a release blocker for Etch, which means that Etch will not
be released until this bug is fixed (or your package removed from
testing). So, please, try to fix in a timely manner.

[3] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/10/msg4.html

The number of affected packages by the xlibs-dev transition is huge,
so if you feel like helping with patches or uploads, feel free to
follow the instructions contained in the wiki page above. A list of
affected packages can be found here [4].

[4] http://people.debian.org/~adeodato/release-usertag/transition-xlibs-dev

Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not
be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will
read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay
  their upload.

  Thanks for your collaboration!

Your package fails to build with G++ 4.1. I'm filing this bug as
important for now, but when 4.1 will be the default compiler in
unstable (probably in a few weeks) I'll upgrade this to serious.

Bug#380615: libtemplates-parser: FTBFS: problem generating dvi files

2006-08-07 Thread Julien Danjou
severity 380615 important
thanks

Yes, here it is.
Actually this is only reproducible with /bin/sh linked to dash, it works
fine with bash. So I downgrade the severity.

This is a gross inflation of severity.

This is a known issue we have not yet gotten around to improve. Patches
are welcome.

Note that with the current version of the installer you can resolve this
by first selecting "manual partitioning", then selecting "configure LVM"
at the main partman screen and use the LVM menu to delete existing LVs
and VGs, and finally choose guided partitioning again.

The installer should probably show an overview of existing VGs and LVs
and ask for confirmation before deleting them.

Can you please try to create a file called '/etc/openalrc' with the
following contents:

(define devices '(alsa))
(define alsa-out-device "default")

Bug#381815: Patch for haskelldb. Fixes an RC bug

2006-08-07 Thread Arjan Oosting
tag 381815 patch
thanks

Hi, I have prepared an update for haskelldb which fixes the RC bug and
some related issues (see changelog below). After a new version of
haskell-hsql is uploaded haskelldb can be uploaded with the attached
changes.

As I am not a DD yet, I can not NMU haskell-hsql (I have supplied a
patch though) and can not upload haskelldb. So if someone is willing to
NMU haskell-hsql and upload haskelldb it would be nice.

Greetings Arjan

  * QA upload.
  * debian/control:
- Add a Section for the source package.
- Update build dependency on ghc6. (Closes: #381815)
- Add missing Depends on libghc6-hsql-mysql-dev,
  libghc6-hsql-odbc-dev, libghc6-hsql-postgresql-dev and
libghc6-hsql-sqlite-dev needed to configure and use
  libghc6-haskelldb-dev.
- Make sure libghc6-haskell-dev depends on the version of
  libghc-hsql-dev it was build against by using the ${HSQL:Version}
  substitution variable.
- Add dctrl-tools to Build-Depends because grep-dctrl is used to
  determine the version of libghc6-hsql-dev.
- Bump Standards-Version. No changes needed.
   * debian/haskelldb.cabal:
- Add hsql-odbc, hsql-mysql, hsql-sqlite and hsql-postgresql to the
Build-Depends as these modules are needed to build haskelldb and
ghc6 (>= 6.4.2) will not make them available by default anymore.
- Remove Allow prefix from the needed extensions declarations.
  * debian/rules:
- Remove commented out dh_make template cruft.
- Touch configure-stamp at the end of the configure-stamp target.
- Do not ignore errors on clean.
- Generate the ${HSQL:Version} substitution variable.

Ok, I see. The problem is as follows:

Upgrades from -1 are not supported, -1 were experimental packages.

So please:
- purge all texlive packages
- reinstall the -2 packages

I thought about this and included a check for upgrades with a warning:
echo "Upgrade from experimental versions are not supported!" >&2
echo "Please purge all texlive packages before installation." >&2
The bug here is that the snippet of preinst code didn't end up in
texlive-doc-base, but only in texlive-common. Reason behind: Before
texlive-doc-base was at the bottom of the dependency tree. For -2 I
created texlive-common and moved the code there, which was a bug, as
there was never a version texlive-common 2005-2.

Next version will have the preinst code for upgrade in all packages.

Thanks for insisting. And yes, purging all the texlive packages is the
best idea, as some link canged to files and other way round from the
experimantal packages to the unstable ones.

Best wishes

Norbert

I adjust the severity, as this happens only if you have experimental
packages installed.

Solution for this for now: Purge all experimental texlive packages and
make a clena install.

Best wishes

that is grossly overrated severity, it works for many boots out there.
also please next time use reportbug it adds lots of useful info to
your bugreport that is missing here:

dpkg -l udev
dpkg -l module-init-tools
dpkg -l mdadm
uname -a

that is just the last snippet of the boot log,
might be intersting to have the longer bad boot blog.

also according to aboves message you have an md root.
please post from the initramfs
cat /proc/cmdline
cat /proc/mdstat
cat /proc/modules

hmm so mdrun seemed to have gotten the right order, strange,
anyway adding mdadm maintainer on cc as he has more questions.

sending the output of aboves questions would help to nail
the problem you run into, adding working dmesg might help too.

thanks for your report

I have workarounded this bug in sdcc by running in debian/rules:

mkdir -p ~/.lyx && cd ~/.lyx && /usr/share/lyx/configure.py

I have found that only one other package is affected in the archive,
manderlbot.

I will fill a bug report against this package as it also FTBFS, and I
will suggesst the same workaround.

When this package is fixed, I think the severity of this bug could be
decreased, as the bug only appears in command line. But please don't do
that before, because if lyx moves to etch, there will be one more RC bug
in etch...

Bye,
Aurelien

A lot of packages currently code their init scripts like this:

log_daemon_msg "Starting foo"
start-stop-daemon foo
log_end_msg $?

Since log_end_msg now returns 0 always, numerous init scripts no longer
return meaningful exit codes.

I think this change needs to be reverted. You can make up a new function

Bug#358397: initramfs-tools initrd.img update

2006-08-07 Thread Manoj Srivastava
The following message is a courtesy copy of an article
that has been posted to gmane.linux.debian.devel.kernel as well.

> okaay???" question? Except it's a note, not a question.

I am assuming you are not trolling, but merely do not know the
behaviour of the image preinst script.

The difference is that first, if kernel image is going to
overwrite something, it warns you: and does not proceed to change the
kernel modules on disk unless you say yes. This question is asked
unless the kernel modules have already been removed by the user, or
the user has explicitly turned off the warning in
 /etc/kernel-img.conf.

Then, it send a note reminding the user to reboot.

So the kernel image does ask, and take action based on the
answer. Which is, I think, the desired behaviour here as well.

Bug#380156: python-pycurl: Fatal: failed to acquire the pool lock: Operation not permitted

2006-08-07 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

the error in pycurl is a reversed logic of PyThread_acquire_lock(): on
success, it returns 1, else 0. The code in pycurl_ssl_mutex_lock()
assumes otherwise.
The attached patch fixes the logic, which also fixes the mentioned
example on my box.

Regards,

Please
- drop all po i18n updates
- fix indendation of the phpmyadmin-2.6.2/libraries/header_http.inc.php changes
  for CVE-2005-3621
- raise the version number to sarge3, we have an unsuitable sarge2 in the
security queue (you couldn't know that and I forgot to tell you in advance,
  sorry)

The security fixes look all good.

Bug#381912: knowledgeroot: embedded FCKeditor and TinyMCE may have unfixed security issues

2006-08-07 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Package: knowledgeroot
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

As far as I can see, knowledgeroot includes FCKeditor and TinyMCE, which had
many security issues in the past. Please check whether these issues are fixed
in the versions that are included in knowledgeroot.

For FCKeditor I found:

CVE-2006-3362
CVE-2006-2529
CVE-2006-0921
CVE-2006-0658
CVE-2005-4094
CVE-2005-4095
CVE-2005-0613

For TinyMCE, I found:

CVE-2005-4599
CVE-2005-4600
CVE-2006-3602

Some of these are probably identical because these editors are included
in many products which might have individual CVE-IDs assigned.

If any security issue needs fixing in knowledgeroot, please mention the
CVE-IDs in the changelog. Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Stefan

Package: lsb-base
Version: 3.1-11
Severity: serious

Using getopt to parse the arguments of start_daemon is trouble because
it parses the arguments that are supposed to be passed to the daemon.
For example:

start_daemon -p /var/run/dirmngr.pid /usr/bin/dirmngr --daemon --sh

What it tried running is this:

/sbin/start-stop-daemon --start --nicelevel 0 --quiet --exec -p --oknodo
--pidfile /dev/null -- /var/run/dirmngr.pid /usr/bin/dirmngr --daemon --sh

Which ended up this way:

/sbin/start-stop-daemon: stat -p: No such file or directory (No such file or
directory)

So this init script is broken.

I know the behavior I observe in my systems. I have not read the code.

This is not my experience with stock Debian kernels. I'm sure eg. my
last upgrade from linux-image-2.6.17-1-686_2.6.17-4 to 2.6.17-5, I was
asked no question, just got the "you have to reboot soon" note. And I
don't think I have anything in /etc/kernel-img.conf to disable the
question? (What's the option that disables it?)

Cheers,

This test basically relies on waiting for a condition variable, and
the failure you're seeing appears to indicate that
pthread_cond_timedwait is terminating in less time than requested. Two
questions:

  (1) Is the failure 100% reproducible or is it intermittent?
  (2) Does it happen with aptitude 0.4.1?
  (3) If it's reproducible, can you trace through the code and see where
it fails? In particular, what value is being returned from
  pthread_cond_timedwait?

Thanks,
  Daniel

Bug#380240: Patch for configuration value

2006-08-07 Thread Tobias Toedter
package sn
tag 380240 patch
thanks

Hi,

please find attached a patch which fixes this bug.

I've removed the definition of EXPIRETIME from the
file /etc/news/sn/debian-config, so that the only definition for that
variable is found in /etc/cron.daily/sn.

To make sure that an accidentally left variable definition
in /etc/news/sn/debian-config does not overwrite the definition
in /etc/cron.daily/sn, I've also placed the EXPIRETIME variable after the
sourcing of the debian-config file.

Regards,
Tobias

Actually this does not work, because it seems to be forbidden to create
files in the home directory of a build daemon.

That would also mean that the solution to generate this file at runtime,
as you suggested, won't work.

Therefore could it be possible to ship back textclass.ht in
/usr/share/lyx, but give a higher priority to the one in ~./lyx/ ?

I filled a bug against maderlbot.

Bug#381913: sdcc - FTBFS: Tries to write outside of the source directory

It is really forbidden to write in the home directory of the buildd? or
is it a configuration problem? Half of the build daemons have built sdcc
successfully.

I asked that, because some tools used during build time want to save
their configuration into the home directory. That should be the case of
lyx, but as it is not done due to the bug, I added the command to the
debian/rules file manually, hence the "mkdir -p ~/.lyx ...".

Bug#381934: manderlbot - FTBFS: LyXTextClassList::Read: unable to find textclass file `'. Exiting.

2006-08-07 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: manderlbot
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

There was an error while trying to build your package in a clean chroot
(pbuilder):

> make install DESTDIR=/tmp/buildd/manderlbot-0.9.2/debian/manderlbot/
> make[1]: Entering directory `/tmp/buildd/manderlbot-0.9.2'

> make[1]: *** [doc] Error 2
> make[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/buildd/manderlbot-0.9.2'
> make: *** [install] Error 2

The problem is actually in lyx (see bug#381622). The workaround I have
given in the bug log actually does not work, as it does not seems
possible to write to the home directory of a build daemon.

Bug#380638: Intent to NMU

2006-08-07 Thread Margarita Manterola
Tags 380638 + patch pending
Thanks

Hi!

I have prepared an NMU that fixes this problem in matrixssl. It's a very
simple fix, that applies the already existing include-asm.diff patch, to
the other instances of linux.c (static and shared).

I'm attaching the full diff to the NMU.

I'll be uploading the package, compiled for amd64 and i386, tonight,
according to the 0-day NMU policy.
