Bug#365983: Got it removed

2006-05-06 Thread Helge Kreutzmann
severity 365983 important
thanks robot

Hello,
I saw new postgresql8.1 packages in testing, and using the following
procedure, I was able to remove postgresql almost completely:
apt-get -d dist-upgrade
** New postgres packages, let's install:
apt-get install postgresql-client-common postgresql-common
  ** No change
apt-get install postgresql-8.1
  ** Worked
apt-get remove postgresql-client-common postgresql-common postgresql-8.1
** Worked (also removed some other postgres packages)

I said half-removed, because postgresql is still mentioned in
/etc/runlevel.conf and /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.1 still does exist, so
at bootup I get the following error:
thirtyto:/var/log# /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.1 start
/etc/init.d/postgresql-8.1: line 3:
/usr/share/postgresql-common/init.d-functions: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht
gefunden

(file or directory not found).

Please adjust severity as needed, but it is IMHO not RC anymore I
believe (hence I lowered it to important).

Greetings

 Helge

Hi,

It seems some of the packages don't get build for all the arches.

Things like erlang-src are marked as arch "any", but they only
get build during an arch indep build.

INDEP_TARGETS=install-meta-erlang install-erlang-src install-erlang-mode
install-erlang-x11 install-erlang-nox

But erlang-src and erlang-mode are marked as arch any. I think
those should get changed to arch all.

As a result, only i386 currently has those 2 binary packages.

investigating, a further build dependency is obsolete: libjpeg-dev.

please update your build dependencies to libglu1-xorg-dev, libjpeg62-dev.

I've fixed the configure.ac file and regenerated the configure script.
A fixed package is available at http://movingsucks.org/joy2key . I'll
ask Dannf to upload it when I see him Monday; if somebody wants to
sponsor it before then, I won't complain. :)

I don't think this is a bug in dh_strip; it looks like you have a buggy
binutils installed. I've been using this version of debhelper to build all
kinds of packages, without any errors of this kind; and in any case, the
error messages are from strip, not from dh_strip.

There has been a binutils update in the past month, so it's possible this is
a change in binutils that only affects certain sorts of objects. I think
it's best to assign the bug there for further investigation.

are using (assuming you are using Sid).

Bug#363482: Proposed fix for update-fonts-alias /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7 heirarchy

2006-05-06 Thread Steve Langasek
# well, this /wasn't/ a debhelper bug, but now it is...
reopen 364530
clone 364530 -1
submitter -1 !
reassign -1 debhelper 5.0.33
retitle -1 debhelper: should not promote the broken /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7 dir
tags 364530 patch
thanks

Attached is a first run at a patch for update-fonts-alias which eliminates
the need for the /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7 heirarchy. An explanation of the
process:

- update-fonts-dir is still called, either with or without the
--x11r7-layout option, and acts on a single directory. When called
without --x11r7-layout, it continues to act on the named subdirectory
of /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts for compatibility with existing packages; with
the option, it acts on /usr/share/fonts/X11 as expected. This updates the
fonts.dir file for only the named directory, which should be the one the
  package installed its fonts to.
- update-fonts-alias is called with a subdirectory name and an optional
--x11r7-layout option which is honored only for compatibility with font
packages that have already updated to use it. If --x11r7-layout is
passed, u-f-a looks in both /etc/X11/fonts/$subdir and
/etc/X11/fonts/X11R7/$subdir for alias files. Otherwise, it looks *only*
in /etc/X11/fonts/$subdir. In both cases, the invocation will generate
fonts.alias files in *both* /usr/share/fonts/X11/$subdir *and*
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/$subdir, whichever is present. This is
acceptable because fonts.aliases files only map aliases to font names,
*not* to font files, so they can appear anywhere in the X FontPath without
ill effect. (Empirically verified prior to writing this patch.)
- update-fonts-scale something something. I dunno, this probably parallels
  u-f-a, but I haven't tested it yet.

This means that /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7 should be immediately deprecated once
this patch is uploaded, in favor of the original /etc/X11/fonts. The
dh_installxfonts handling that was changed in debhelper 5.0.33 should be
reverted; as well as, I guess, the previous path changes in 5.0.31. It
should still pass --x11r7-layout when calling u-f-d, but not when calling
u-f-a. (U-f-s still to be determined.)

With those changes, I believe the only adjustment maintainers of
debhelper-using xfonts packages will need to make is to install their fonts
to the correct new directory. Any currently working xfonts packages in the
archive will continue to work. Any debhelper-using packages currently
installing their alias and scale files to /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7 will break on
rebuild and will need to be fixed before the next upload.

Please test this patch and let me know if I've overlooked anything. FWIW,
it checks out fine for me with the xfonts-thai-nectec package (the one that
spawned this bug), so 363482 should be closeable with no further
modifications of that package.

Off to poke at update-fonts-scale now. :)

Cheers,

If people using testing or sid (which has the same version
of cgiirc still) will get that version then too (until we
have 0.5.8-1 out), that would be cool too.

Bug#366243: nvidia-settings: Crashed with X Window System error

2006-05-06 Thread Markus Schulz
Package: nvidia-settings
Version: 1.0+20051122-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Crash immediately after start with:

../nvidia-settings
The program 'nvidia-settings' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 93 error_code 8 request_code 146 minor_code 4)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Console only operations are working fine (like nvidia-settings --query
FSAA)
Currently i have no ~/.nvidia-settings-rc config file.
This happens since xorg7 system/driver update.

Package: stopmotion
Version: 0.3.2-1
Severity: grave
Tags: sid

Hello,

This is a grave bug filed against your package because it depends on
libqt3c102-mt, which no longer exists, thus rendering yor package
uninstallable in unstable. As part of the C++ ABI transition, this
library has moved to the libqt3-mt package.

Simply recompiling and uploading your package should be enough to fix
this; as per this mail [1], you need not bump your Qt, kdelibs or aRts
build-dependencies. Beware, though, that that may not be the case for
all the involved librares. Also, make sure that you build the package
in an up to date and clean sid environment, so that final dependencies
are correct. Please do this as soon as possible in order to accelerate
  the Qt/KDE transition to testing.

[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/09/msg0.html

Perhaps you find that your package fails to compile with gcc4. If
that's the case, there's probably a bug about it in the BTS, and it
may include a patch. If not (or if you have doubts about the
correctness of the patch), you may be able to find a fix in upstream's
CVS, or in the Ubuntu distribution. If your package fails only in arm,
m68k, and hppa, see instructions in the above mail.

Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not
be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will
read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay
  their upload.

Thanks for your cooperation, and happy hacking!

P.S.: There may be an already reported bug against this package for
this very same reason. I've checked for that, and will be merging the
bugs soon. The reason for still filing this bug was to have the
opportunity of including the small bits of information above. I
  apologize for the inconvenience.

Since the switch to 2.29 (or is it 2.28?), DHCP offers of dnsmasq are
not answered. It works perfectly when downgrading to 2.27.

Hello Andree,
Could you retry with the "official" amd64 package from ftp.debian.org ?

The "official" package depends on libparted1.6-13 so this problem
should not happen.

The gparted amd64 buildlog

does not show such warning.

dpkg-shlibdeps does not take the path into account, so this seems rather
that the shlibs file was missing.

However the current official amd64 libparted1.6-13 package carry a correct
shlibs file so it seems this issue has been dealt with.

This is really strange, I cannot reproduce it here.
How do you start ding? The above message ("this isn't an Tk application")
doesn't come from ding, maybe from your Tk interpreter...
Could you please show me the output of "update-alternatives --display wish".
I'd like to know, whether you really use the wish from Tk 8.4.

Bug#366263: libraw1394-5: All firewire-applications stop responding if I access a firewire-device, no errors messages

2006-05-06 Thread Michael Schmitt
Package: libraw1394-5
Version: 0.10.1-1.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

First, I need to say I am not sure that this is the right package to
report a bug to but I have no glue where else I should report. The
subject said it all. I get no errors even if I start for example
gscanbus in a xterm. As soon as I access the controller or the
connected cam, gscanbus freezes, same with kino.
I tested the firewire-card / cable / cam in another computer and there
it worked. I tested the card in this machine in several PCI slots,
sharing an IRQ or using one alone. A possible kernel-issue?

checking for libtasn1-config... /usr/bin/libtasn1-config
checking for libtasn1 - version >= 0.3.1... no

This is not fixable until libtasn >= 0.3.1 is uploaded, which will
need to go through the NEW queue as the soname has changed.

cu and- I think that *you* already know that, but is nice to document
it in the bts. -reas

Hi!

It seems your package contains non-free RFC/I-Ds:

usr/share/doc/ircd-irc2/rfc1459.txt.gz net/ircd-irc2
usr/share/doc/ircd-irc2/rfc2810.txt.gz net/ircd-irc2
usr/share/doc/ircd-irc2/rfc2811.txt.gz net/ircd-irc2
usr/share/doc/ircd-irc2/rfc2812.txt.gz net/ircd-irc2
usr/share/doc/ircd-irc2/rfc2813.txt.gz net/ircd-irc2

The license on RFCs is not DFSG-free, see:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation

I believe the options are:

1) Remove the file from the package (which may include re-packaging
   the source code).

2) Move the files to a non-free package (which may also include
   re-packaging the source code).

If you disagree with this, because this bug is reported for several
packages at once, it seems better to discuss this on debian-legal, in
this thread:

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.legal/25993

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy
.

I'm sorry if this report is filed in error, I went over many packages
looking for suspicious filenames, and there may be false positives.

Thanks,
Simon

Package: lvm-common
Severity: serious
Version: 1.5.20
Justification: circular dependency

When trying to build a LTSP chroot, the lvm-common package fail to
install. I use this command in a sid chroot to build the ltsp
environment (chroot):

  # ltsp-build-client --dist sid --mirror http://ftp.skolelinux.no/debian
  [...]
  Setting up lvm-common (1.5.20) ...
invoke-rc.d: unknown initscript, /etc/init.d/devfsd not found.
  dpkg: error processing lvm-common (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 100
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of lvm2:
   lvm2 depends on lvm-common (>> 1.5.8); however:
Package lvm-common is not configured yet.
  dpkg: error processing lvm2 (--configure):
   dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
  [...]

The problem seem to be related to devfsd, which is to be installed,
have not been set up when lvm-common is being set up. Some circular
dependency?

Impossible to install gcompris due a uncorrect dependency:

Bug#366176: krita: Krita does not start after installation

2006-05-06 Thread Robert Gomułka

retitle 366176 Krita cannot be started just after fresh install
thanks

For unknown reason I can now start the application. I have done two things in
the meantime:
1. System restart
2. System update/upgrade
I guess the first one fixed problem somehow. But in my opinion it still
exists, but is something different - krita cannot be launched after fresh
installation.

Passing "--extrapackages jikes" on the pbuilder command line allows the

Nor does this version...

And this version of gcompris does exist, but is not the current version on
your architecture. Looks to me like you need to apt-get update. :)

There is still a lower-priority bug here, in that gcompris*-data* 7.3.2-1+b1
never existed; gcompris is not binNMU-safe because gcompris depends on
gcompris-data (= ${Source-Version}), but gcompris-data is Arch: all.
Luckily, the latest version of dpkg now supports a new variable,
${source:Version}, which can be used with a build-dependency on dpkg-dev (>=
1.3.19).

Cheers,

Package: dhcp3-common

Hi!

It seems your package contains non-free RFC/I-Ds:

usr/share/doc/dhcp3-common/doc/rfc1542.txt.gz net/dhcp3-common
usr/share/doc/dhcp3-common/doc/rfc2131.txt.gz net/dhcp3-common
usr/share/doc/dhcp3-common/doc/rfc2132.txt.gz net/dhcp3-common
usr/share/doc/dhcp3-common/doc/rfc2485.txt.gz net/dhcp3-common

usr/share/doc/dhcp3-common/doc/draft-ietf-dhc-authentication-14.txt.gz
net/dhcp3-common
usr/share/doc/dhcp3-common/doc/draft-ietf-dhc-dhcp-dns-12.txt.gz
net/dhcp3-common
usr/share/doc/dhcp3-common/doc/draft-ietf-dhc-failover-07.txt.gz
net/dhcp3-common

The license on RFCs is not DFSG-free, see:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation

Note that your package also contains:

usr/share/doc/dhcp3-common/doc/rfc951.txt.gz

This is released in the US before 1988 without a copyright notice, and
consequently in the public domain, so it is not a problem.

Thanks,
Simon

Bug#366296: nullmailer does not preserve administrator settings when debconf is being used

2006-05-06 Thread Don Armstrong
Package: nullmailer
Severity: serious
Version: 1:1.02-3

The removal of ucf support has broken the ability of nullmailer to
recognize when an administrator has made changes to the configuration
files outside of the use of debconf, and causes overwritting of
administrator changes upon upgrade.

This is a violation of policy, and as such, is RC.

Bug#335105: Patch to fix the rand failure and ExtUtils::MakeMaker issue in perl-5.8.8

2006-05-06 Thread Don Armstrong
tag 335105 patch
tag 357264 patch
thanks

Attached is a patch to fix these two bugs; a brief explanation:

The fix for #335105 is to hard code the two numbers which are passed
between the forked child and the parent; rand can conceivably return
the same value twice in a row (although, such an occurance should be
rare.) Also, the test as written would have erroneously succeded if
the child never wrote anything at all.

The fix for #357264 is to always call perl with the proper -I option;
in the worst case, this is a null operation, but in cases where there
are inter-module dependencies in modules that cannot depend on
pm_to_blib the previous method would cause build failures. [See
#356975]

The attached interdiff prepared as if it were an NMU should fix
#335105 and has been tested to fix #357264 (and in consequence,

Bug#211765: Where have these files gone?

2006-05-06 Thread Nathanael Nerode
With the modular split of Xorg 7, these files have probably scattered to
different packages.

Can someone suggest a good strategy for figuring out which packages currently
contain the affected files? I don't want to download every single package
source one at a time and grep through it, but I'll do it if that's the only
way. I also suspect that most of the files have gone to a small number of
packages, and that a fair number of them may have disappeared (the
Imakefiles).

Theocracy, fascism, or absolute monarchy -- I don't care which it is, I don't
like it.

Bug#366300: xfce4: Xfce4 package uninstallable due to version problems in dependency

2006-05-06 Thread Edgar Ibsen
Package: xfce4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I cannot install the package "xfce4" because it depends on several packages
in the unstable repository that has a version number smaller than the
required one (4.3.90). For example, Xfwm4, though there are a few others.

/me remembers seeing a similar bugreport and that was going to be fixed on
libgd side, should hopefully be fixed by now?
