Bug#272127: freecdb: does not provide a shared library

Kawamura-san,

In bug #272127, the maintainer (and upstream) of freecdb had this to say
about the package:

I'm much happier just forcing people to migrate to tinycdb, a cleaner
reimplementation of the same idea, called tinycdb; any project that
isn't dead itself, and still depends on freecdb, should migrate to
tinycdb. TinyCDB even gets updated every once in a while.

The only reason freecdb exists is to support software that wants to
use djb's cdb, and it even isn't API-compatible with the newer
versions of cdb. I am upstream for this fork, and am officially
stating that freecdb is _DEAD DEAD DEAD_. Pining for the fjords!

It seems that you have three packages: skksearch, skkdic, and dbskkd-cdb
that build-depend on freecdb. Can these packages be migrated to
TinyCDB, as Tommi suggests? This would let us remove freecdb from the
archive, which sounds like it would be a good thing.

Thanks,

2005-08-27 Thread David Hill
Package: Kmerlin
Version: 1.4.2-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Well, it seems it just can't work! It should be removed or fixed.

If it's not fixed, remove it... if it's fixed, keep it.

But it's been a month or so and still no answer from the maintainer.

Well, it is just not working.

Can't login, and it's useless...

Thanks a meg

Hello,

since when I upgraded to the most recent version of the package, I've noticed
that if one-lease-per-client is set to on and a client releases the old IP
and re-request new one (after a reboot for example), the dhcp server goes
into an inifite loop and writes the same information to the
dhcpd.leases file until it fills up the disk

dhcpd.leases file:

I think the same bug was present in one of the 3.0 release candidates,
it might be the same surfacing again.

Same behavior is present on i386 architectures.

Please, this is not a grave bug. That in some cases some attachments
don't work doesn't render the package "unusable".

> Squirrelmail version 1.4.5 solved out the problem!

Indeed it did, it was a PHP bug which we worked around. This version is
present in unstable and testing. We can't fix bugs in stable, so I'm
'closing' this bug.

ARGS. An advisory for kdelibs is pending but missing the mips build.

Why the )*(#%$ does a KDE package depend on the exact Debian version
of another KDE package? That should not be the case in the first place.

Will happen "soon".

Steve, could you take care of sid and experimental packages if Joy

Oh.

Okay, thanks. So the random SIGSEGVs seem to be a symptom rather than
the cause of this problem. Digging into the source code a bit, the final
line I quoted above indicates there's something fishy about your Alsa
setup, though. In particular, muse apparently does not receive timer
tick events from Alsa. Alas, I'm not very familiar with Alsa these days
and don't have a clue why those ticks might get lost. Is there anything
special about your installation? Anyway, as this problem seems to be
specific to certain setups, I'm lowering the severity of this bug report.

Regards,

Daniel.

This is not really a bug. =A0KDE and qt, along with the rest of unstable is=

the next couple weeks due to the transition. =A0libqt3-mt cannot provide=20

You should read this e-mail:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2005/08/msg00089.html

You have the following options to install KDE and qt:

1) Donwgrade to testing. =A0This is the best option if you are not prepared=

deal with transitions that take place in unstable.
2) Install libqt3c102-mt, arts, kdelibs, kdebase and dependencies from=20
testing, the rest of kde from unstable.
3) Install libqt3-mt from unstable and recompile any depending packages you=
=20
need yourself.
4) Wait a couple of weeks until qt's depending packages have made it throug=

the gcc transition.

Actually, DEB_BUILD_ARCH is indeed set up correctly on my amd64. I
think it gets set by dpkg-architecture.

The problem was that for amd64, it used "OPTFLAGS=-g -O2 -DDEBIAN".

I just changed it to "OPTFLAGS=-O -DDEBIAN", just like all other
architectures. Now I get something that I can use.

tested it on alpha, but it should work on the other 64bit architectures
as well.

Bug#325335: Greylisting Config. Doc. ist incorrect

Hi.

I have just configured greylisting (with exim4-daemon-heavy 4.50-8) for

This failure to build is actually caused by the package using the
obsolete "dpkg --print-gnu-build-architecture". Here's a patch which
fixes the build.

This is because of a change in gcc. In version 4, they now require
that you use -mmmx before they acknowledge that MMX registers exist.
Thanks gcc! :(

The fix is to delete the MMX registers from the clobbers list, or
compile with -mmmx/-msse. I prefer removing them, as using -mmmx/-msse
is scary and opens you up to more gcc bugs.

The fix is in CVS HEAD of tvtime, but not in any released .tar.gz yet.

Bug#325351: libpam-ssh: pam-ssh without common-auth for authentication authorize to login with wrong password

2005-08-27 Thread Sylvain
Package: libpam-ssh
Version: 1.91.0-9
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Bonjour,

I want to use only pam-ssh to login on my comptuter. So I modify the
login pam file and comment @include common-auth.

Here is a part of my /etc/pam.d/login

# Disallows root logins except on tty's listed in /etc/securetty
# (Replaces the `CONSOLE' setting from login.defs)
auth requisite pam_securetty.so

# Disallows other than root logins when /etc/nologin exists
# (Replaces the `NOLOGINS_FILE' option from login.defs)
auth requisite pam_nologin.so

# This module parses /etc/environment (the standard for setting
# environ vars) and also allows you to use an extended config
# file /etc/security/pam_env.conf.
# (Replaces the `ENVIRON_FILE' setting from login.defs)
auth required pam_env.so

# Standard Un*x authentication.
@include pam-ssh-auth
[EMAIL PROTECTED] common-auth

# This allows certain extra groups to be granted to a user
# based on things like time of day, tty, service, and user.
# Please uncomment and edit /etc/security/group.conf if you
# wish to use this.
# (Replaces the `CONSOLE_GROUPS' option in login.defs)
# auth optional pam_group.so

# Uncomment and edit /etc/security/time.conf if you need to set
# time restrainst on logins.
# (Replaces the `PORTTIME_CHECKS_ENAB' option from login.defs
# as well as /etc/porttime)
# accountrequisite pam_time.so

# Uncomment and edit /etc/security/access.conf if you need to
# set access limits.
# (Replaces /etc/login.access file)
# account required pam_access.so

# Standard Un*x account and session
@include common-account
@include common-session
@include pam-ssh-session

With this configuration, I can login with the wrong or null passphrase.
If I want to only user pam-ssh-auth, I need to modify
/etc/pam.d/pam-ssh-auth and replace sufficient by required. It is very
easy to insert a security hole in your system.

Salutations,

Sylvain

I can also do an upload; Joy already said I should comaintain, I've just
been waiting for racke to do a new courier upload so that I can actually
use maildrop (I have new maildrop packages in experimental that're just
rotting away, waiting).

Speaking of racke, has anyone checked whether courier-maildrop needs the
same patch?

Hi,

Your package is failing to build because of missing build
dependencies.

It's missing atleast build dependencies on:
pkg-config
python-gtk2-dev (>= 2.3)
yelp
cron
at
libxml-parser-perl

And I hope you could rework the package to not require atleast
cron and at. And maybe you should try to get rid of yelp too.

Bug#325357: vrweb: FTBFS on 64 bit arches: cast from 'AnyLight*' to 'int' loses precision

2005-08-27 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: vrweb
Version: 1.5-12
Severity: serious

Hi,

Your package is failing to build on 64 bit arches with the
following error:
g++ -O -O -DLINUX_ELF -DVERBOSE -DASSERT -Dcplusplus_2_1 -DInterViews -Div_nls
-DOSMajorVersion=2 -DOSMinorVersion=0 -DLINUX -DHG_OSMaj=2 -DHG_OSMin=0

/build/buildd/vrweb-1.5/src/harmony/scene/bspbuild.C
/build/buildd/vrweb-1.5/src/harmony/scene/bspbuild.C: In member function 'virtu
al void QvIndexedFaceSet::buildBSP(BSPTree*)':
/build/buildd/vrweb-1.5/src/harmony/scene/bspbuild.C:1218: error: cast from 'An
yLight*' to 'int' loses precision
make[4]: *** [bspbuild.o] Error 1

It's trying to print the address. In C, with printf,
you'd use a %p for it. I have no idea if std::cout has
something simular.

I think the easiest way to fix it would be cast it to an intptr_t.

Bug#325361: libpango1.0-common: Postinstallation script dies because /etc/defoma/config/pango.conf has not been unpacked

2005-08-27 Thread Eric Christopherson
Package: libpango1.0-common
Version: 1.8.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When I tried to install libpango1.0-common 1.8.2-1 and libpango1.0-0
1.8.2-1, the libpango1.0-common postinstallation script exited with
error 2, causing it not to be configured correctly. I looked through the
script and found that the failure is in update-pangox-aliases, which
quits with no error message if /etc/defoma/config/pango.conf doesn't yet
exist (line 56 of update-pangox-aliases). I did some investigating and
found that /etc/defoma/config/pango.conf is supposed to be provided by
libpango1.0-common, but did not in fact exist. I don't know why it
wasn't unpacked before the postinst ran, but I manually extracted it
from libpango1.0-common_1.8.2-1_i386.deb, tried again to install
libpango1.0-common and libpango1.0-0, and this time it worked.

Bug#317621: xine-ui: fbxine always gives me "Video port failed" error

2005-08-27 Thread Darren Salt
Testing fbxine here, I see the same - if the screen mode isn't true colour.
Setting a mode with at least 16 bits per pixel allows fbxine to work.

  $ fbset -depth 32

I also predict that, now that fbxine is happy with the screen mode, you'll
find that the palette isn't properly set up. The attached program will set it
up, but it needs to be run while fbxine is running.

gkrellmss fails to build because it build-depends on alsa-headers,
which is no longer available:

Since alsa-headers was replaced by libasound2-dev, which gkrellmss
already build-depends on, the attached patch removes the
build-dependency on alsa-headers, which fixes the build.

Bug#325292: closed for wrong reason

2005-08-27 Thread Steve M. Robbins
Teun's initial complaint was

libqt3-mt replaces libqt3c102-mt but does not provide libqt3c102-mt

This is not your run of the mill "KDE is broken" bug, but a more
fundamental misunderstanding of ABI transition. You should rather
direct Teun et al. to Steve Langasek's message
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/07/msg7.html
which says, in part,

The library package renames, libfoo1 -> libfoo1c2, libfoo1c102 ->
libfoo1c2, or libfoo1c102 -> libfoo1, are done because there is an
ABI change *without an upstream soname change*. Since there is no
soname change, the files installed by the renamed package will
also not change -- which means, just like for any other packages
with overlapping files, you *must* conflict with the previous
library package name. You must *not* add a Provides: libfoo1 or
Provides: libfoo1c102 to the new package; this transition is
happening because of an ABI transition, which means the new
package will NOT provide the same interface as the old one, and
setting Provides will lead apt to give your users broken package
combinations.

Regards,
-Steve

It appears that libpq-dev has reverted this change.

However I'll make www-sql use pg_config so it's immune from future
changes.

Thanks

Thanks for the bug report, sorry for polluting your home directory!
I'll fix this in the next version of the debian package.

Package: gmp
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS

Hi,

gmp fails to build on alpha, see

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?&pkg=gmp&ver=4.1.4-10&arch=alpha&stamp=1124596243&file=log&as=raw

I could reproduce it on our alpha machine at work. I tried to build
with gcc-3.4 or gcc-3.3 as a workaround but it failed at the same
point.

Cheers,

Laurent.

Bug#325351: libpam-ssh: pam-ssh without common-auth for authentication authorize to login with wrong password

While I'm not sure I agree that this qualifies as a user security hole,
I do think it's inappropriate for libpam-ssh to provide separate pam.d
"include" files in this fashion. The @include common-* infrastructure
provided by the libpam package was never intended for this, and Sylvain
points out at least one reason why PAM modules can't provide their own
config files that will be generally useful.
