Comments/Problems:

System won't boot properly, not even arriving to a language selection screen.

I have tried to boot directly from boot prompt, and using _linux26_
parameter, and both of them end up in the same situation: "Kernel
panic: Attempted to kill the iddle task".

However, there is a big difference among both boot options. While
_linux26_ always arrives to the same point, _linux24_ does NOT, which
sounds very strange to me.

I'll finish the explanation after the boot messages:

- These are ONE version of the boot messages for "linux24" boot (each
boot has its own numbers):

* ADDITIONAL NOTES:
=

- System was assembled by myself from different pieces, it's not a "branded" PC.
- There are a couple of lines which are missing in the 2.4 kernel
(PREEMPTIVE, Modules linked in:).
- Kernel's 2.4 behavior is very strange: every boot shows different
parameters, with even different messages, but in the end, they all
finish in "Attempted to kill the iddle task". Some of this mesages
include:

--
<0> Kernel panic: Attempted to kill the iddle task!
In iddle task - not syncing
--
  Segmentation fault
<0> Kernel panic: Attempted to kill the iddle task!
--
  <0> Aiee, killing interrupt handler
In iddle task - not syncing
--

- I also tried to boot the system using a "Knoppix" CD, with different
results depending on the version, parameters, keyboard and monitor.

Hope this helps to debug this problem. Should you need any aditional
info which I could provide, please don't hesitate to ask for it.

Thanks for your work!

Bug#399785: iceweasel eats all cpu while displaying about:

2006-12-09 Thread Sergio

  Hello,

I had the same problem while upgrading to iceweasel from firefox.

The problem, as I see it, is just that I had to get out of my gnome
session and get in again, in order for all the files to be read again.

Once I got out and in, the problem was solved.

  Hope this helps.

  Regards,
 Sergio

PD: Wilfried, can you please test if your problem has been solved as well?

Bug#402340: Integrated browser support not working on upgrading from eclise 3.1.2 to eclipse 3.2.1

2006-12-09 Thread Sergio

Package: eclipse
Version: 3.2.1-1

 Hello,

I upgraded from Eclipse 3.1.2 to Eclipse 3.2.1 and I started
getting the following message:

"Integrated browser support not working. This Eclipse build
doesn't have support for the integrated browser."

Looking at the file /usr/bin/eclipse, I found the following:

1.- There are two "elif" which are exactly the same:

 elif [ -e /usr/lib/mozilla/libgtkembedmoz.so ]; then
export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib/mozilla

2.- There is no support for iceweasel/iceape renames in Debian

3.- There is no "libgtkembedmoz.so" in my local system anymore,
apart from the one I have in /usr/lib/nvu

I don't know if this point is relevant to you or
iceweasel/iceape package maintainers, I am _not_ sending any bug
report to them if it isn't needed (There might be an alternative
library which I dont't know that solves this issue).

 Regards,
   Sergio

Bug#605052: libdca-utils: dcadec produces broken WAVs

2010-11-26 Thread Sergio
Package: libdca-utils
Version: 0.0.5-3
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

dcadec produces WAV files, that are reported as are much shorter, than
expected to be, but are big enough to contain sound of full duration.
Either dcadec produces broken files, or files are valid but no one
is able to read them correctly.

Example:
I have extracted DTS audio track from .mkv movie container using
mkvextract. Now:

$ ls -l audio-rus-mvo.dts
-rw-r--r-- 1 sergio sergio 614424560 Ноя 26 17:13 audio-rus-mvo.dts

Well, ~600 MiB DTS.

$ mediainfo audio-rus-mvo.dts
General
Complete name: audio-rus-mvo.dts
Format : DTS
Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems
File size: 586 MiB
Duration : 1h 48mn
Overall bit rate : 754 Kbps

Audio
Format : DTS
Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems
Duration : 1h 48mn
Bit rate mode: Constant
Bit rate : 754 Kbps
Channel(s) : 6 channels
Channel positions: Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE
Sampling rate: 48.0 KHz
Bit depth: 24 bits
Stream size : 586 MiB (100%)

Duration of 1:48 reported. Converting it to multitrack wav:

$ dcadec -o wavall audio-rus-mvo.dts  > audio-rus-mvo-6ch.wav

And so I got 7.5 GiB 6channel wav (that seems to be correct size for
6ch 32bit/sample 1:48 sound):

$ ls -l audio-rus-mvo-6ch.wav
-rw-r--r-- 1 sergio sergio 7505018948 Ноя 26 17:27 audio-rus-mvo-6ch.wav

It seems to be really 6ch wav as I can judge looking at spectrogram.
And its duration reported correctly by mediainfo:

$ mediainfo /mnt/sys_10/alice-audio-rus-mvo-6ch.wav
General
Complete name:
/mnt/sys_10/alice-audio-rus-mvo-6ch.wav
Format : Wave
File size: 6.99 GiB
Duration : 1h 48mn
Overall bit rate : 9 216 Kbps

Audio
ID : 0
Format : PCM
Format profile : Float
Format settings, Endianness : Float
Codec ID : 1000--0300-8000-00AA00389B71
Codec ID/Hint: IEEE
Duration : 1h 48mn
Bit rate mode: Constant
Bit rate : 9 216 Kbps
Channel(s) : 6 channels
Channel positions: Front: L C R, Back: L R, LFE
Sampling rate: 48.0 KHz
Bit depth: 32 bits
Stream size : 6.99 GiB (100%)

But when I try to play file with:
  rhytmbox
  mplayer
  totem
  sox
all of them see file duration 0:46:26. (sox says: Duration: 00:46:26.50)
I have seen the same result with another extracted-DTS-to-6ch-wav
conversion, in that case sound was torn in some other wrong duration.
The same result if writing to pipe.

In addition to this one, there is error with output-error handling:
in case of running out of disk space (that is very possible with
so giant WAVs) no error reported, no error status returned, and
decoding process continues to nowhere.

Sorry. The real buggy combination is:

/etc/ssh/ssh_config:
host *
  GSSAPIDelegateCredentials no

~/.ssh/config:
host *
  CanonicalizeHostname yes
  CanonicalDomains mydomain.com

host foo.mydomain.com

GSSAPIAuthentication yes
GSSAPIDelegateCredentials yes
GSSAPIRenewalForcesRekey yes

% ssh foo klist

If I comment out GSSAPIDelegateCredentials in /etc/ssh/ssh_config or do

Have you noticed CanonicalizeHostname and CanonicalDomains?

This block matches that ssh command otherwise could you explain why
I got all other options from it and this debug line:

  - ssh(1): Add support for client-side hostname canonicalisation using a
set of DNS suffixes and rules in ssh_config(5). This allows
unqualified names to be canonicalised to fully-qualified domain names
to eliminate ambiguity when looking up keys in known_hosts or checking
host certificate names (closes: #115286).

should be

http://www.openssh.com/txt/release-6.6

 * ssh(1): if hostname canonicalisation is enabled and results in the
destination hostname being changed, then re-parse ssh_config(5) files
using the new destination hostname. This gives 'Host' and 'Match'
directives that use the expanded hostname a chance to be applied.

Hello,

I'm not sure, may be this is the ifconfig (net-tools) bug, but
when I do ifconfig as user (or with -a) someones loads netrom and rose
modules and I receive a lot of unnecessary interfaces (nr[0-4] and rose[0-9])
ip link and ip addr doesn't has this side effect. ifconfig with linux 3.3 also
works fine.

Bug#680762: linux-image-3.4-trunk-amd64: lirc_sir isn't loadable

2012-07-08 Thread sergio
Package: src
Version: 3.4.4-1~experimental.1
Severity: important

Hello.

It's impossible to load lirc_sir needed for SIR irdas used as lirc
device:
lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, major 250
lirc_sir: module is from the staging directory, the quality is unknown, you
have been warned.
lirc_register_driver: dev pointer not filled in!
lirc_sir: init_chrdev() failed.

As I know you shouldn't need any specific hardware for load this module,
but you need to free serial port with
setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart none
The first (io:0x3f8, irq:4) serial port is the default for lirc_sir.

This it not only 3.4 problem, 3.3 and 3.2 have the same problem.

The module from lirc source can be loaded. But It doesn't compile with
3.4 (asm/system.h: No such file or directory)
It works with 3.2, but there are some other userspace problems, so
I can't be sure that standalone lirc module works fine.

Bug#680768: SIR irda problems

2012-07-08 Thread sergio
Package: lirc
Version: 0.9.0~pre1-1
Severity: important

Hello.

There are several problems with lirc_sir driver.

*) lirc_sir module from the kernel (3.2, 3.3, 3.4) doesn't work. I've
described thin in the #680762 kernel bug.

*) lirc_sir module from the 0.9.0 and git source doen't compile with 3.4
due to absence of asm/system.h (asm/system.h: No such file or directory)

*) lirc_sir module from the 0.9.0 compiles and loads well with 3.2
kernel, but lirc userspace doesn't work:
   lircd-0.9.0-pre1[15978]: could not open /dev/lirc0
lircd-0.9.0-pre1[15978]: default_init(): Device or resource busy
all other problems, which use /dev/lirc0 directly (xmode2, mode2,
irrecord) also show the same problem.

LIRC modules and tools from git repository works fine with 3.2 kernel.

startup). And when I have only "auto" --- all interfaces are configured
after startup, but, of course, rmmod/modprobe don't configures them.

0.7.43 from sid also has this problem.

Bug#720501: watchdog has it own default timeout

2013-08-22 Thread sergio
Package: watchdog
Version: 5.13-1
Severity: normal

Man says:
watchdog-timeout =
Set the watchdog device timeout during startup. If not set, the default
is driver-dependent.

But this is lie of course, as configure does
$as_echo "#define TIMER_MARGIN 60" >>confdefs.h
so timeout module option is totally ignored.

Bug#634887: modemmanager: Error connecting through Motorola C380 phone (while pon connects well)

2011-07-20 Thread Sergio
Package: modemmanager
Version: 0.4.997-1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

I can connect mobile-network over GPRS using pon but connecting using
NetworkManager fails. Pon uses this simplest chatscript for
connection:

ABORT BUSY
ABORT VOICE
ABORT "NO CARRIER"
ABORT "NO DIALTONE"
ABORT "NO DIAL TONE"
"" AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
OK ATDT\T
CONNECT ""

There are logs of NetworkManager and modem-manager in attachments, done this
way:
/etc/init.d/network-manager stop
kill pid-of-modemmanager
NM_SERIAL_DEBUG=1 modem-manager --debug 2>&1 | tee /tmp/mm-testing-modem.txt
NM_SERIAL_DEBUG=1 NetworkManager --no-daemon 2>&1 | tee
/tmp/nm-squeeze-modem.txt
LAN connection raised by NM
then I plugged the phone in, and choose configured mobile-net from the
applet's menu

I couldn't connect with squeeze's modem-manager, I updated it to testing but
still I can't.
I've heard somewhere in the net, people had had success with Motorola C380 +
NetworkManager in Ubuntu 8.10... possible regress? May be I try some day
that old distro.

No, in 0.3.4 it has image/x-pixmap (which doesn't work) instead of
image/x-xpixmap (note the two 'x').
Wikipedia says it can be either image/x-xpixmap or image/x-xpm

Every time when I do dist-upgrade and there is a new version of bluez
I loose mouse for tens minutes. It's not very big problem, because my
keyboard is wired. But if you have bluetooth keyboard and some packages
(after bluez stop) asks you about some configuration than you need wired
keyboard.

bluez must not stop during upgrade. I should restart after.

Bug#798931: man2html: Does not work after install as Apache is installed with CGI off by default

2015-09-14 Thread Sergio
Package: man2html
Version: 1.6g-7
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

Attempt to access http://localhost/cgi-bin/man/man2html with browser as
man2html package recommends fails with "Not found" error page.

Easy fix is:

  % a2enmod cgid
  % service apache2 restart

as described here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/571862/how-do-i-get-man2html-
pages-to-show-in-the-browser
or here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2199030

So as CGI has become disabled in default httpd installations these days, it
would be nice to see some "red" note/warning in manpage and package description
about need to turn CGI on.
Install script may also check and print warning if apache is used as httpd and
CGI mods are disabled, or it may try to access localhost/cgi-bin/man/man2html
during post-install etc.

Bug#800004: mate-panel: Order of "launcher" icons on panel accidentally randomly changes on login

2015-09-25 Thread Sergio
Package: mate-panel
Version: 1.8.1+dfsg1-3
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

I observe this issue for years, it is minor but very annoying. If I booted and
logged in into fresh installed Gnome2/Mate, added some "launcher buttons"
("icons") to panel in order I prefer, then there is large chance on next boot
and login into desktop I find them in exactly reversed order or messed in some
other way. Not sure, but I think the same goes for applets.
So user have to right-click each icon and applet and choose "lock to panel"
just to make them be in constant order and avoid shuffling.
I doubt if panel's "default behaviour" with buttons randomly jumping on every
boot has sense for anybody...

What upstream are you talking about? ejabberd source doesn't provide
init-script. Anyway this isn't a reason to decline my request.

This action and my patch doesn't affects systemd.

Bug#754218: boot hangs forever on LSB job "raise network interfaces"

Today, after upgrading kde, sysvinit-core was replaced with systemd-sysv

Boot becomes normal after "auto" entries were committed out in
/etc/network/interfaces (except lo). Not workable file is attached.

Could you say, where can I find it?

Yes and no. reload function is just a load_config functions which is
provided by mod_admin_extra. In the wheezy it was a part of ejabberd
package, but in 14.07 it's moved to ejabberd-contrib. So to make
reload action work you need install ejabberd-contrib and enable it in
/etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.yml

But I can insert a check and make clear warning in case of error:

# /etc/init.d/ejabberd reload
Warning: reload action is not avaliable!
You need to install ejabberd-contrib package, add 'mod_admin_extra:
{}' to the modules section in /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.yml and restart
the server.

The real action is a bit harder:

Bug#871950: git: Please keep packaging git archimport

2017-08-12 Thread Sergio
Package: git
Version: 1:2.11.0-3+deb9u1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

please reconsider the decision in #866059 to stop packaging git-archimport.

It makes it unnecessary cumbersome to recover tla data from backups and
deprives git
from one of the components that its upstream maintainers consider worthwhile
distributing.

Even if tla is not shipped in debian, I see no reason not to provide the
archimport helper in git. Should tla have security issues (which we do not
know, since the issue seems to be merely that it has not received patches
in the last years), the git helper alone is totally innocuous.

With the helper in git, to recover data from backups that may include tla
archives, it can be enough to manually build tla and run it in a "controlled"
environment. Without the helper in git, one needs to locally rebuild git too,
duplicating stuff that is already in the official packages.

I think that, at most, the helper should be patched to not depend on tla and
provide an informative notice if tla is not in the system.

Please, also consider the timing of the decision. You say that archimport will
disappear from 2019, but following your decision, it is disappearing right now
from ubuntu.

Bug#853746: golang-1.7: Golang 1.7 available in jessie backports but not installable on armel due to missing golang-1.7-go

2017-01-31 Thread Sergio
Source: golang-1.7
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
   * What outcome did you expect instead?

*** End of the template - remove these template lines ***

Golang 1.7 has recently been made available in jessie backports. However, it is
not installable in armel (and possibly other
architectures) because the golang-1.7-go package is missing for it. In turn
this is due to a failure in building golang-1.7-go
(see
https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=golang-1.7&suite=jessie-backports#problem-1)

The issue is that, as a consequence of the above, if one had previously
installed golang 1.6 from the backports, then spurious
information about the availability of package upgrades is constantly showns.

For many days now, the system has been indicating that 4 packages are
upgradable (the 4 golang packages), when in fact, no one
can be successfully updated. This makes the information that the system
automatically provides on updates at best useless and
at worst confusing and misguiding unnecessary actions.

I would suggest removing golang 1.7 from jessie-backports for those
architectures where it cannot be installed anyway because
some part of it cannot be built (at least until it can be built).

How to get them? I have a dumped core file, is it enough?

Hello, I just uploaded WebKitGTK 2.42.1-2 to unstable.

Could you give it a try and tell me if it works fine without having to
use any environment variable or any other workaround?

Thanks!

Hi,

if you're using stable then it's better that you don't install
WebKitGTK from unstable, I'll tell you when a backport is available.

Thanks,

Hi ,

no problem.

using *2.42.1-1~bpo12+1* package and removing *libnvidia-egl-gbm1* I
can confirm that the process still works.

Please let me know if I need to re install or not the

If it's easy to test and not too much hassle, can you try removing
that package and see if the problem happens again?

No need to do it if it's too complicated!

Hi Sergio,

As you say, spyder has a lot of dependencies, and I don't know exactly
which ones would need backporting to get a working spyder in
backports, and how many of these backports might break other things in
other packages along the way. I don't have the capacity to take on
this level of responsibility for backports, so I do not intend to
backport spyder.

If someone else would like to take on this task, though, they are more
than welcome to do so!

(If this bug is really annoying you, you can always run the PyPI
version of spyder in a virtual environment.)

Best wishes,

   Julian
