Bug#341387: beagle: option for index files to be stored elsewhere

Bug#419182: kiax: sound quality very poor compared to skype
Package: kiax Version: 0.8.51.dfsg-2-1 Severity: normal I can't figure it out. I have skype 1.3.0.53 and the sound quality for a test call is almost crystal clear. When I try to use kiax with iax.fwdnet.net, the sound quality is so bad as to be unusable. Initially I suspected that I was getting poor sound quality due to network delay so I registered two computers on my local LAN with FWD. I called from one to the other. Now, if I understand FWD correctly, the audio data is routed directly between the callers (not through FWD) so this test should eliminate all network delay. Still, I found the sound quality unchanged -- very poor. I tried GSM, speex, and ULaw. I turned off all the audio filters and silence detection. It still sounded terrible. Any suggestions would be welcome. I loath to use Skype because it is proprietary software and IAX should be superior. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.20.4-b2 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages kiax depends on: ii libc62.3.6.ds1-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.1.1-21 GCC support library ii libgsm1 1.0.10-13 Shared libraries for GSM speech co ii libportaudio018.1-4 Portable audio I/O - shared librar ii libqt3-mt3:3.3.6-2 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libspeex11.1.12-2The Speex Speech Codec ii libstdc++6 4.1.1-21The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-2 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar kiax recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#419530: lvm2: poor documentation
Package: lvm2 Version: 2.02.06-3 Severity: normal 1. If you have two volumegroups with the same name then vgrename helpfully shows you the UUIDs and suggests that it is necessary to refer to the vg by UUID. However, there is no hint as to how to do this. There is no documented option for passing the vg UUID to vgrename. 2. The vgchange man page claims that the --available option "Controls the availability of the logical volumes in the volume group for input/output. In other words, makes the logical volumes known/unknown to the kernel." However, I could not get this to work. This option does work as documented when used with _LV_change. Bug#680649: linux-image-3.0.0-1-amd64: Restoring from hibernate requires rerunning /etc/init.d/kbd start manually to fix broken consoles
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 3.0.0-3 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I have some nonstandard console settings that require running /etc/init.d/kbd to configure console. Bug#681951: "gnome help" fonts conflict with "darklooks"
Package: gnome Version: 1:2.30+7 Severity: normal When using GNOME with the darklooks theme, which is white text on black background, the GNOME help application displays its documents with black text on black background. Bug#720058: libgl1-nvidia-glx: when installing libgl1-*-glx on amd64, recommend i386 package if ia32libs is installed
Package: libgl1-nvidia-glx Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, *** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? Upgraded wine 1.0.1 to current with apt-get install wine. Launched Starcraft. Got blank screen with keyboard input disabled except for switch to tty hotkeys in X (good thing I have consoles enabled). * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Effective solution was apt-get install libgl-nvidia-glx:i386 * What was the outcome of this action? Problem fixed. * What outcome did you expect instead? Problem should not have happened. This is a farily obvious situation. If you have the 64 bit render package on a workstation and 32 bit libraries, you probably want the 32 bit render package. Bug#775560: upgrade-reports: Wheezy -> Jessie: machine becomes unbootable due to missing Grub
Hi, I can confirm I have experienced this problem as well. First I ran an automated install of Wheezy from a Squeeze (Debian 6) recovery image. Then I upgraded a few packages from wheezy to wheezy-backports but had apt-get dependencies I could not solve. So I upgraded to Jessie. After the upgrade to Jessie I got a warning that grub could not be found etc. I thought "this is crazyness, of course my server has grub, I've seen it and it boots." I rebooted, and discovered that in fact, grub that was installed by Squeeze, was incapable of booting Jessie. (I might be wrong, I'm not a Debian guru or anything) My disk layout is as follows I believe grub was installed on sda and sdb (I didn't do it myself, it was done by some script of my hosting provider's rescue disk) sda1 and sdb1 formed md0, which was about 500MB, ext2 filesystem mounted as /boot. sda2 and sdb2 form another mdX with LVM. One of the logical volumes is root, and that was / This is what I saw when attempting to boot the non-booting system (I typed this out manually and roughly) - checking root filesystem ... fsck from util linux blah dev mapper vg0-root clean x/y files blocks etc. 3.2 ext4-fs dm-0 mounted filesytem with ordered data role opts done. begin running /scripts/local-bottom ... done begin running /scripts/init-bottom ... done 3.7 systemd failed to mount tmpfs at /sys/fs/cgroup: no such file or directory. After discovering that readelf could cope with the problem I was able to repair the binary headers; however even so, objdump and nm cannot cope. * What outcome did you expect instead? Bug#1050578: linux-image-6.1.0-11-amd64: kernel disk device cache coherency issue: stale reads on /dev/sda1
Package: src:linux Version: 6.1.38-4 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? Upgrade to bookworm fragmented the EFI paritition (due to changing boot logo) and defrag was in order. As this BIOS currently has broken legacy boot, I used dosbox-x to defrag the EFI partition rather than boot the FreeDOS CD-ROM. Thus this uncovered the bug. On minimizing the bug, it got very simple. I can reliably reproduce as follows: # hexedit /dev/sda G 10 (your value may vary) PgDn PgDn ^C # hexedit /dev/sda1 PgDn write a marker to the padding between the BPB and the first FAT sector. (If your system doesn't have one, edit an error message in the boot sector) # hexedit /dev/sda1 G 10 PgDn PgDn Look for marker written above, find it's not there !!! ^C For demonstration of the fact the cache is wrong but the data is sved, you can do the following: # reboot # hexedit /dev/sda G 1 PgDn PgDn Look for marker written above, find it's there !!! * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Only effective workaround I could find was reboot at certain locations. * What outcome did you expect instead? I seriously expect no possability of block level cache incoherency between different partition devices on the same block device. Quite frankly, I am amazed this doesn't cause tons and tons of issues. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 6.1.0-11-amd64 (debian-ker...@lists.debian.org) (gcc-12 (Debian 12.2.0-14) 12.2.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Debian) 2.40) #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.38-4 (2023-08-08) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-6.1.0-11-amd64 root=/dev/mapper/NOVA-lvol2 ro video=960x540 net.ifnames=0 biosdevname=0 quiet (Note that I'm working on the EFI parititon, which is not inside LVM due to incompatibilities.) ** Not tainted ** Kernel log: There is nothing useful in the log. Bug#427625: libc6: bindtextdomain not properly documented?
Package: libc6 Version: 2.5-7 Severity: normal This is probably a stupid question but take a look at this simple program: snip #include #include #include int main() { bindtextdomain("ppx", "/home/joshua/ppx/locale"); printf("domain = %s\n", textdomain("ppx")); setlocale(LC_MESSAGES, "de_DE.UTF-8"); printf("%s\n", gettext("America")); } snip When I strace this, it never looks in /home/joshua/ppx/locale. I tested this on 3 Debian systems and 1 Gentoo system. Am I doing something stupid? I keep reading the docs for bindtextdomain but I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. For example: $ cc test.c -o test $ strace ./test 2>&1 |grep ppx write(1, "domain = ppx\nAmerica\n", 21domain = ppx On my box, it looks in /usr/lib/locale/. I suspected that my compiler toolchain was broken but on my brother's gentoo box, it searches /usr/lib64/locale instead of the directory I specify in bindtextdomain. On the other hand, if I strace /usr/bin/hello then it searches /usr/share/locale which is correct. But if I dpkg-buildpackage hello using apt-src then that build of hello searches /usr/lib/locale/. So maybe my compiler toolchain really is broken? Can you shed any light the behavior of bindtextdomain? -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.21.1-b3 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Package: runit-run Version: 0.6.0 Severity: normal This is my second install of runit-run. Everything went smoothly except for: 1. I'm installing onto a Xen node which only has one tty which I access from the hosting provider via ssh. Why doesn't runit-run put a getty on tty1 by default? 2. After installing runit-run, I am instructed to reboot. I did: INIT: Switching to runlevel: 6 etc.. But then I couldn't access the machine. Even ping didn't work. I rebooted the Xen node from my hosting provider's control panel. I'm not sure what that does, but on console I got: SysRq : Emergency Sync Emergency Sync complete However, the machine doesn't reboot.
