Trying it out in older versions of Debian works.

Tested using scanimage.

Bug#743224: (no subject)

2014-05-18 Thread dE

I confirm this.

Actually the GTK print dialog is broken. It does not allow you to set
the correct page size, as a result Cups does not print, and only shows
processing.

As a workaround, first print as PDF, then print the PDF.

Bug#649614: kdebase-runtime: KDE session fails to start with libpulse0 1.0-4

2011-11-23 Thread dE .

On 11/22/11 23:28, Braun Gábor wrote:

Package: kdebase-runtime

By starting a KDE session from KDM, the splash screen appears
but after the first icon appears, the screen becomes black.
I couldn't to switch to another terminal,
however pressing the power button causes the system to properly shut down.

After examining .xsession-errors,
the message
"(libpulsecommon-1.1.so: nem nyitható meg a megosztott objektumfájl: Nincs ilyen

ie libpulsecommon-1.1.so does not exist.
I have upgraded libpulse0 to 1.1, and since then the session starts normally.

I suspect that kdebase-runtime need to require libpulse version 1.1.

Best wishes,

Again looking at the issue, this's what's supposed to happen.

A sound server is supposed to resolve this problem.

It was told you in another bug report, but let's repeat it for clarity:
What happens in Gentoo hardly matters for Debian.
Period.
(and beside that, we do *not* have KDE 4.9.x, but we're currently using
KDE 4.8.4.)

This's not a wishlist.

This problem probably won't be fixed. kdebluetooth is replaced with
bluedevil which's deeply integrated into KDE.

So kdebluetooth does not seven see your device? Or is it that you can't
do some functions which it?

Did you upgrade the kernel at the same time? If so, what were the

Client and server were both upgraded from 1:1.2.5-3 to 1:1.2.5-4 on the
same day.

ls -l shows the x bit is still set, but I get permission denied
when I try to run them, and bash's autocompletion also seems to "know"
they're not executable because it doesn't expand them when I press Tab.
I've tried adding 'exec' to fstab options but it didn't help. The same
thing happens whether I use mount or pmount as a normal user or mount as
root.

Are all 'x' permission bits set? Do you also have read permission for
the executables?

~ $ ls -l /media/htpc/hdvb/mscript.py
-rwxr-xr-x 1 nobody nogroup 376 Jan 11 12:54 /media/htpc/hdvb/mscript.py
~ $ /media/htpc/hdvb/mscript.py
bash: /media/htpc/hdvb/mscript.py: Permission denied

I overlooked the "nobody nogroup" before. Is that normal? The UIDs are
the same on both PCs and I can write to the file despite the discrepancy
in the user and group names.

Here I have to restart the idmapd service to get the names properly.

Ok, the dependencies should be enough (and will be fixed so

Please stay polite.
Yes, my setup is not updated every day ; I run an update every one or

However, even with an out-of-date setup, I guess I should not
experience this bug. Should I ?

Any particular reason why you're installing libraries from testing?

You should prefer Okular from the stable branch first, then from the

For the given state bundle (link will be given a few hours later), when
update-manager asks weather to do a safe-upgrade or not, and if you say

Package: synaptic
Version: 0.75.9
Severity: wishlist

If, during an upgrade, some packages that are about to be removed are
marked as manually installed, Synaptic should warn the user.

The warnings should be such that even if the system is provided by
someone else for use to a novice, he/she should understand what it means.

e.g. (heading) "Warning important packaged to be removed"
"Some packages which you installed intentionally, are marked for removal
for the upgrade, these include --

Continue removal?"

I didn't find any upstream bugzilla or anything like that.

Bug#682235: dolphin: opens multiple instances of a program when opening multiple files

2012-07-22 Thread dE .

On 07/20/12 20:18, Gustavo wrote:

Package: dolphin
Version: 4:4.8.4-1

Dear Maintainer,

Since upgraded to 4.8, Dolphin no longer arranges media files in a playlist, to
be opened in a single
instance of a program. For example, if you select 15 mp3s and press enter, it
will open 15 Totem windows
instead of a window with the 15 files queued. If, however, you select the same
files, right-click and
select "open with -> totem", it works as expected.

It seems to be a regression, since this exact behaviour figured in 4.4 and was
fixed in 4.6, if I recall
correctly.

If I understand correctly, this's not something which's the

responsibility of totem to not open a separate instance of itself, and
enque in it's playlist.

Can you provide more detail about which apt-get commands are doing this?

The intended behaviour for apt-get is that any package explicitly
mentioned on the command line will be marked manual, even if it was
previously installed and marked auto. If my memory serves me
correctly, this is to avoid surprises when

  # apt-get install A

is used to upgrade A, which is previously auto-installed, and could
indirectly result in that package being removed due to dependencies
for example.

If that describes your scenario then it is not a bug in apt-get.

This behaviour may eventually be adopted in aptitude as well due to
the high number of bugs/complaints about the problem resolver
disregarding the list of packages on the command line.

This time, it was apt-get upgrade. No packages specified.

I'll give more e.gs

On my 6+ year old laptop, both these applications (Dolphin and Kwrite)
open within a few seconds so the problem is a strange one indeed.. As
the software between the two PCs is identical as far as I can tell.

It *MIGHT* have something to do with NTFS partitions on the local
machine. That's my only guess.. Or the fact that there is no swap
partition on that PC. Does anybody else have NTFS partitions on the
local machine and finding that Dolphin or kwrite takes several minutes
to open every time? Or somebody who don't have swap partitions finding
it takes minutes to open dolphin or kwrite?

Situations are a bit different here; loading to KDE environment takes
too long (a lot of I/O), but on other systems (Debian for instances),
this's not so even with the same version of KDE.

After that lancelot also takes a lot of time for the 1st opening.

If this crash occurs:
  - It will crash the same every subsequent boot of 3.2.0-3-rt-amd64.
  - I can workaround by booting 3.2.0-3-amd64.

However, booting 3.2.0-3-amd64 always stops at a blank screen.
I press Alt-F1 for tty1 and login. It reports it can't find a display.
Then, booting 3.2.0-3-rt-amd64 works until the PC spontaneously reboots. This
happens about once per hour.

Thanks

I think you need to update the initramfs for the non-rt kernel.

The command is update-initramfs -k

I'm not sure about the kernel's version string, but it must be
3.2.0-3-amd64.

So try 'update-initramfs -k 3.2.0-3-amd64'

And try booting the non-rt kernel again.

2013-02-07 Thread dE .

Package: linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64
Version: 3.2.35-2
Severity: important

I've a USB DVD writer attached, and when I'm copying large files (or in
general continuous operation on the drive like dd/cat), periodically the
drive activity stops (light stops blinking, data flow stops) for around
30 seconds, after which the following appears in the kernel logs --

reset high-speed USB device number 9 using ehci_hcd

And the reading continues.

You may like to have a look at --

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7238508.html

Which suggests this may be a kernel compilation issue.

files were being added to the archive, the whole DE crashes.

That looks pretty weird. Does it means your logged out of Xfce and back
to the login screen?

Yes, but that's the responsibility of the DM but point is the whole DE
crashed.

Are you able to reproduce it?

This also happens when you're extracting archives.

Hi. I'm not sure where to report this bug to, but the update-manager's
dependency resolution is too slow. After a month without upgrade, try
update and then try to upgrade using the update manager... it takes
around an hour to compute the updates and in some cases the whole day.
In the mean time the CPU usage is 100%.

Dear Maintainer,

After recent upgrade of packages sound stopped working. Sound control in KDE

output device. My real device "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" (internal
soundcard in my Intel chipset) is greyed out.

This occurs on both my laptop and desktop (both Intel, but different chipsets

I haven't seen anything suspicious in the log files (but I don't know what I am
looking for).

1. the first time I tried to re-open the desktop effects settings, KDE

Bug#651947: aptitude has buggy dependency resolution.

2011-12-13 Thread dE .

Package: aptitude
Version: 0.6.4-1.2
Severity: important

Aptitude suggests removal of 284 packages in favor of keeping
update-inetd at version 4.40 which it complains as being held, which is
not true. Corresponding attachment aptitude_bug.

Also, aptitude states perl-base: Conflicts: update-inetd, but this's not
written in aptitude show perl-base.

apt-get, Synaptic and other apt implementation's behavior is to upgrade
update-inetd instead as show in file apt-get_output.

Can you verify this with:

$ grep -A 4 update-inetd /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates

which should indicate something other than `State: 2'.

grep -A 4 update-inetd /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates

I'm pretty much sure this's a bug. There's not a single package that's

This's not a dependency issue, any other apt program doesn't have any

Last time I checked, the sqlite backend was broken, sqlite cant handle
concurrent access which Akonadi needs.

Bug#652885: KDE 4.7.4 shows black screen if desktop effects are activated

2011-12-21 Thread dE .

Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4.7.4-1

When kde starts if desktop effects are activated shows only the first
four icons of splash, when the last icon (kde icon) must be painted,
screen goes to black with only the mouse cursor.

When you press SHIFT+ALT+F12 to deactivate effects screen is showed correctly.

KDE 4.7.2 don't have this problem, only a bit problem with render of
shadows in combo-box that is also present in 4.7.4 when deactivate
OpenGL 2 and some other options to activate effects without black
  screen problem.

I use nouveau driver on 7 years old machine, with OpenGL 1.5 by Gallium.

This problem can be a big problem for some users.

  Toni Mirabete

This's a problem with the nouveau drivers then, not KDE.
