Bug#1037171: aide: fresh aide package install fails to add the requried _aide user to system

2023-06-06 Thread Tomasz Ciolek
Package: aide
Version: 0.18.3-1
Severity: serious
Justification: 5.d

Dear Maintainer,

A fresh aide package install on debina buster fails to add the requried _aide
user to system. This block the ability to run 'aideinit' script.

While this is mentioned in /usr/share/doc/aide-common/README.Debian.gz there
are no clear instrucntions as to whar range of UID/GID to give the _aide user
when cerating them manually.

Pleas resolve as this blocks upgarde on most of my systems as I use aide across
all of them.

After the session is up none of my user-defined key shortcuts work.

When I use WPrefs tool to reset them they will work for duration of the session
and
then go away on next reload of X. I have tried 'save session' option from the
menu,
and it does not change the behavious.

This is to say the least frustrating.

Is there a way to fix/work aroudn this issue?

regards
Tomasz

Bug#93810: AEST vs EST

2009-02-26 Thread Tomasz Ciolek
Hi all

I just wanted to point out that having libc6 time zone data report
australian dates and times as EST and not as AEST leads to erroneous
behaviour in zope and several other web application engines.

Cheers
Tomasz

Bug#898458: debsecan reports packages as vulnerbale after upgarde to newer/higher release

2018-05-11 Thread Tomasz Ciolek
Package: debsecan
Version: 0.4.19~deb9u1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

This has been bugging me for a while. debsecan shows the following package as
being vulnerable and having updates available to fix the issue:

*** Available security updates

CVE-2017-15908 In systemd 223 through 235, a remote DNS server can...

  - libudev1, libpam-systemd, libsystemd0, udev, systemd
(remotely exploitable, medium urgency)

CVE-2017-9445 In systemd through 233, certain sizes passed to...

  - libudev1, libpam-systemd, libsystemd0, udev, systemd
(remotely exploitable, medium urgency)

Upon checking the secueity tracker for both CVE-2017-15908 and CVE-2017-9445 I
saw that my I needed systemd 232-25+deb9u2 to apply the fixes. My system has
systemd 232-25+deb9u3 installed, as shown below:

tmc@citadel:~$ dpkg -l | grep systemd
ii libpam-systemd:amd64 232-25+deb9u3 amd64system
and service manager - PAM module
ii libsystemd0:amd64 232-25+deb9u3 amd64systemd
utility library
ii systemd 232-25+deb9u3 amd64system
and service manager
ii systemd-shim 10-3 amd64shim for
systemd

This leads to three (3) questions:

1. Is there a bug or flaw in debsecan logic that means that 232-25+deb9u3 which
should contain fixes included in 232-25+deb9u2 is not recognised as fixed?

2. Is there a bug or flaw in the vulnerability database that debsecan uses that
means that 232-25+deb9u3 which should contain fixes included in 232-25+deb9u2
is not recognised as fixed?

3. Are the fixes in systemd 232-25+deb9u2 not applied in systemd 232-25+deb9u3

This issue is happening across all debian systems that I manage.

happy to provide more debug and/or testing.

Cheers
