Bug#418732: configuration of tetex-base fails

2007-04-11 Thread Florian
Subject: configuration of tetex-base fails
Package: tetex-base
Version: 3.0.dfsg.3-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

*** Please type your report below this line ***
I was trying to reinstall tetex-base and other tex packages, since i
have had a little problem with latex this morning (it was unable to
find any style or package files, don't remember if there has been an
update yesterday).

tetex-base failed on the configuration step, so that the other
packages can't be properly configured (auctex bibtex2html latex-beamer
latex-ucs latex-ucs-contrib latex-xcolor latex-xft-fonts latex209-base
latex209-bin latex2html preview-latex-style tetex-base tetex-bin
tetex-doc tetex-extra texinfo tex-common texlive-bibtex-extra
texlive-common).

I've had a look to the log file (attached below), and try to run
updmap-sys manually. Using the -setoption LW35
/usr/share/texmf-tetex/fonts/map/dvips/tetex/dvips35.map, updmap-sys
seems to run well.

Bug#648634: fetching updates works for me in 1.7

2013-10-21 Thread Florian

Trying the 1.7 package from Ubuntu (1.7.0-0ubuntu2) in the debian
testing-based Linux Mint LMDE I can report that at least the Amazon
plugins (and some others, randomly chosen) work for me now.

I would therefore be grateful if someone could update the Debian package
to 1.7.

thanks, Florian

Bug#751964: gnome-power-manager: Battery icon not reflecting current charge state, and no action performed when critical state reached (data loss)

2014-06-18 Thread Florian
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 3.8.2-1
Severity: important

The battery icon stays at the value it had after starting gnome, regardless of
the
actual state of the battery. Furthermore (and I guess this is related) no action
is performed when a critical state of the battery is reached, even though such
an action is set in the power settings (hibernate).

This just caused data loss on my laptop when I forgot to plug it and it run out
of
battery without warning and without any action taken by the system.

I am using systemd as init-system, if it matters.

thanks, Florian

Bug#740801: zathura: Ligatures, like "fi", are not rendered.

2014-06-02 Thread Florian
Package: libpoppler-glib8
Version: 0.24.5-4
Followup-For: Bug #740801

This bug report seems to be related:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73291

There is also a fix (or workaround, in fontconfig) mentioned in
that bug report, and linked to a commit:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/fontconfig/commit/?id=c6aa4d4bfcbed14f39d070fe7ef90a4b74642ee7

Since this bug affects most of the pdfs I am using for quite some
time now, I would be happy if this patch could be applied.

Thanks for your work, Florian

Bug#685712: xarchiver: don't show correct file list with 7zip archive

2012-08-23 Thread florian
Package: xarchiver
Version: 1:0.5.2+20090319+dfsg-4
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When listing content of a 7zip file with "7z l myfile.7z" no problem
this is the same output as in xarchiver with the menu item (in french ...)
action / sortie de la ligne de commande"
the list provided by xarchiver seems to be part of the third and fifth line...
I guess it's propably a bad parse of the output.

and consequently no way by xarchier to extract the files...

thank for your support.

Bug#678275: keepass2: Text fields behaving incorrectly, e.g. leading to passwords shown incompletely

2012-06-20 Thread Florian
Package: keepass2
Version: 2.19+dfsg-1
Severity: important

Text input fields have some problems. This can even lead to a situation
where passwords cannot be retrieved.

To reproduce:

- Open "Add entry" dialog
- Toggle "show/hide pw" to show the password
- enter new password: "abcdefghij"
starting with the letter "i" the cursor is not drawn
at the right position (=at the end of the word) anymore,
but shifted one position to the left
- save the new entry
- open "Edit entry" dialog
- toggle "show/hide pw" to show the password
the password is cut, the last letter "j" ist not shown
- editing the "user name" field also behaves not as expected, some
letters are not drawn at all, some are distorted

This:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/keepass/forums/forum/329221/topic/5345544

indicates that there is a problem with this version of mono?

thanks, Florian

thanks, changing the font from "Liberation mono" (default) to "DejaVu Sans"
indeed solved the issue for me. The bug still persists for the default
settings though. But this is an easy workaround, at least.

Bug#680963: network-manager-gnome: Cannot connect to VPN with nm-applet

2012-07-09 Thread Florian
Package: network-manager-gnome
Version: 0.9.4.1-1+b1
Severity: normal

Selecting a VPN connection in nm-applet does nothing, no dialog pops up.

syslog shows the following:

NetworkManager[1962]: [1341843562.484828] [nm-vpn-connection.c:934]
get_secrets_cb(): Failed to request VPN s
ecrets #3: (6) No agents were available for this request.

This happens for both vpnc and openconnect.

This seems to be
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/985788
and the method described in comment 10 works for me:

killall gnome-shell
killall nm-applet
nm-applet &
gnome-shell &

After that the VPN dialog shows up when selecting a VPN connection in nm-applet.

Unfortunately I get a compile error with the patch applied:

nm_applet-applet.o: In function `shell_version_changed_cb':
/home/fl/tmp/network-manager-applet-0.9.4.1/src/applet.c:3258: undefined
reference to `nm_shell_watcher_version_at_least'

nm_applet-applet.o: In function `applet_agent_registered_cb':
/home/fl/tmp/network-manager-applet-0.9.4.1/src/applet.c:2959: undefined
reference to `nm_shell_watcher_version_at_least'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

I do not have the time and knowledge to fix this.

Further observations:
The bug didn't occur this time after starting gnome-shell, but the error
message in syslog as stated in the original report was there anyway;
that error seems to be something else obviously.

I can trigger the bug in the same way as described in the launchpad bug
entry, i.e.:

killall nm-applet
nm-applet &

Then the VPN dialog is not opening anymore.

Hope that helps.

Bug#681658: f-spot: Performance/general display problems while switching to next/previous photo since mono-update

2012-07-15 Thread Florian
Package: f-spot
Version: 0.8.2-5
Severity: important

The "Edit Image" mode is not working reliably anymore:

When switching to the next or previous photo with the page up/down key
or the previous/next photo button, the actual display of the next photo
is either delayed by a couple of seconds (especially if there is a modified
version of the photo present), or often it will not even be displayed at all;
instead the original photo remains displayed (often in a somewhat incomplete
form).

This makes photo viewing and organising very annoying.

I think this is the result of the last mono transition, since it didn't
happen with the same version of f-spot before. Is there any known regression
in mono related to this? There is at least another mono viewing bug in #678275.

thanks, Florian

Bug#681878: network-manager-gnome: nm-applet repeatedly forgets passwords when trying to reconnect to WIFI network

2012-07-17 Thread Florian
Package: network-manager-gnome
Version: 0.9.4.1-1+b1
Severity: normal

The WIFI password is saved in the login keyring. Somehow nm-applet
seems to not reliably read the keyring entry. Various different
behaviours are possible:
- Everything works, when a WIFI with saved PW (re)appears, it is automatically
  connected
- When a WIFI (re)appears, a PW dialog is shown with the PW already filled.
This PW dialog
might be an old-style one or a new, gnome3 dialog (this is similar to
#651097, only that
it might be that there appears only one of both, most of the time the old one)
- When a WIFI (re)appears, a PW dialog appear with no PW filled.

For unstable WIFI connections this can be very annoying, and it also happens
frequently after
booting.

This is not #578587 supposedly because it does not happen every time.

Thanks for your work,

Florian

Bug#683039: linux-image-3.2.0-3-amd64: Wireless disconnects after some minutes and is not able to reconnect

2012-07-27 Thread Florian
Package: src
Version: 3.2.23-1
Severity: normal

Wireless connects normally, but after some minutes it disconnects and won't
reconnect anymore.
dmesg shows:

[ 1948.795105] wlan0: authenticated

This is not happening with 3.1, and I haven't seen it with other wireless
routers
(this is occuring with some TILGIN router)

There is a patch:

which seems to be related/fixing this? Is it possible to backport it?

thanks,

Bug#711246: fake-hwclock: location of clock state file not according to fhs

2013-06-05 Thread Florian
Package: fake-hwclock
Severity: minor

The date and time is save in the file /etc/fake-hwclock.data, but
according to the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard it should be under
/var. /var/lib/hwclock/fake-hwclock.data would be the correct, I
think.

Kind regards, Florian

Bug#825962: libreoffice: crashes when trying to get the python macro menu if uno-0.3.3 has been installed with pip

2016-06-01 Thread Florian
Hi Rene,

You're right, it seems that I have made a little confusion here.

> Depends. That uno there seems like
> https://www.versioneye.com/python
/uno/0.3.3, is it?
Indeed.
When using pip3 install uno, it gets installed
in /usr/local/lib/pyton3.5/dist-packages/uno.

Has nothing to do with /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/uno.py, which seems to
contain the libreoffice stuff.

Well, whatever the uno 0.3.3 module is made for, it still causes
libreoffice to crash when installed, so maybe libreoffice gets confused
by the names too ;)

Regards,

Bug#772012: ltsp-server-standalone: Screen saver (dim screen) does not work anymore

2014-12-04 Thread Florian
Package: ltsp-server-standalone
Version: 5.5.4-1
Severity: normal

Since the upgrade to jessie the screen does not automatically switch off/dim
when inactive, even though this is enabled in the power settings of
gnome 3.14. This setting worked in wheezy and works in jessie without ltsp,
but not in our ltsp fat client configuration.

This is bad for the environment! (and therefore serious) :-)

thanks

Bug#766560: banshee: Banshee freezes for 2-3 minutes during startup/searching/browsing after recent libsqlite3-0 update

2014-12-10 Thread Florian
Package: banshee
Version: 2.6.2-2
Followup-For: Bug #766560

Same here, and makes banshee quite unusable. Some snippets from the log:

banshee --debug-sql

shows after a couple of similar lines:

[1 Warn 20:54:16.067] HyenaSqliteConnection command issued from the main thread
[4 Debug 20:55:19.625] Executed in 63558ms

WHERE CoreTracks.Year IN
(SELECT CoreTracks.Year FROM CoreTracks, CoreCache
WHERE CoreCache.ModelID = 19 AND
  CoreCache.ItemID = CoreTracks.TrackID )
ORDER BY Year

I have this specific SQL statement three times in the log, each time taking
about the same
amount of time. All other SQL statements in the log take less than 100 ms.

Hope that helps,

thanks

Florian

Bug#766560: banshee: Banshee freezes for 2-3 minutes during startup/searching/browsing after recent libsqlite3-0 update

2015-01-22 Thread Florian
Package: banshee
Version: 2.6.2-2
Followup-For: Bug #766560

In addition, jumping to the next song or nearly any other task takes literally
minutes.
Since this bug not only affects me and makes banshee unusable in jessie, is it
ok to raise
the severity level?

thanks, florian

Bug#754960: wrong context?

2014-10-15 Thread florian
I first tried to add all kinds of variations of

GnuTLSPriorities SECURE:!VERS-SSL3.0:!VERS-TLS1.0:+VERS-TLS1.2:+VERS-TLS1.1

to

/etc/apache2/mods-available/gnutls.conf

as I did similar stuff for openssl in

/etc/apache2/mods-available/ssl.conf

But it turned out, that you have to edit your

/etc/apache2/sites-available/default-tls

to contain this line.

Some documentation:
http://mod-gnutls.sourceforge.net/downloads/docs/mod_gnutls_manual-0.1.html

It is from 2011 but I didn't find more recent docs. It is not mentioned,
that you can also disable using "-" instead of "!" or that TLS1.2 is
implemented and it is not very verbose.

On my server the line above has the same result as

GnuTLSPriorities NORMAL:!VERS-SSL3.0:!VERS-TLS1.0:+VERS-TLS1.2:+VERS-TLS1.1:!MD5

Bug#773271: libpoppler46: Greek letter \mu not displayed in evince or xpdf

2014-12-16 Thread Florian
Package: libpoppler46
Version: 0.26.5-2
Severity: normal

Example pdf: http://www.atmos-meas-tech.net/6/2169/2013/amt-6-2169-2013.pdf

Throughout this document, the greek letter \mu is not shown, just
white space instead. See e.g. page 2177, right column, bottom line:
"about 4 rad" should be "about 4 μrad".

This can be seen (or rather not seen) in evince and xpdf. It works in
older versions of evince (wheezy's evince 3.4 works), and it works in
iceweasel's build-in pdf viewer.

thanks for considering

Bug#773644: gnome-session-flashback: Applications with header bar do not show fallback menus in flashback session, no way to access menu

2014-12-21 Thread Florian
Package: gnome-session-flashback
Version: 3.8.1-7
Severity: important

Gnome applications with header bar do not show their fallback menus in flashback
session. I also tried the newer flashback package from experimental, but without
success. This seems to be related to this list message:
https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-flashback-list/2014-September/msg00019.html

I have not found any indication that these patches already exist, but maybe
someone
with knowledge of these things does know what to do here? I think this problem
quite severely limits the usability of several gnome applications in the
flashback
session currently in jessie.

thanks

Bug#771799: traceback with pygments prevents syntax highlighting; simple fix available

2014-12-02 Thread Florian
Package: trac
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

trac 1.0.2 is not compatible with the current version of pygments in jessie.
When it tries to load pygments, an AttributeError is raised. This is
issue #11796 in trac and there is a simple fix available which is included in
the next trac release 1.0.3.

This is the corresponding changeset, I can confirm that this works in trac
1.0.2:

http://trac.edgewall.org/changeset/4580ae4fe53056a4cca802b49856efd34746c1d1/jomae.git/

Without this, syntax highlighting is not working in jessie's trac.

Can this simple patch be included in jessie?

Thanks, Florian

Bug#849852: gdm3: fails to switch on second monitor (sometimes also main monitor) after resuming from hibernate

2017-01-01 Thread Florian
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.22.1-1
Severity: normal

I have a dual-monitor setup with an external monitor connected to my
laptop (intel graphics). After resuming from hibernate, most of the
times the external monitor does not switch on anymore. It is also not
possible to log in, since the working monitor does not show any login
dialog etc. Trying to switch to a console leads to a restart of gdm,
showing the login dialog (the second monitor remains switched off),
but trying to login does not work (it returns to the login screen
immediately). The then-available shutdown button can be used, but
the system never succeeds in actually shutting down the
system, it remains on with switched-off screen. Only a hard reset
resolves that situation then.

A few times the external monitor switched on, but not the laptop
monitor. Then it was possible to log in, and the laptop monitor appears
to be switched off in the monitor settings. Attempting to switch it on
fails without reaction.

In the first case, I see the following in the syslog:

/usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1978]: (EE) modeset(0): failed to set mode:
Invalid argument

and then lots of:

/usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1978]: (WW) modeset(0): flip queue failed:
Device or resource busy
/usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1978]: (WW) modeset(0): Page flip failed:
Device or resource busy
/usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1978]: (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed

In the second case:

/usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[2322]: (EE) modeset(0): failed to set mode:
Invalid argument
org.gnome.Shell.desktop[29479]: Window manager warning: Configuring CRTC
63 with mode 75 (1366 x 768 @ 60.018642) at position 1680, 0 and
transform 0 failed

In the worst case, this can lead to data loss because a hard reset is
needed.
Any more information needed?

Bug#419571: cryptsetup may need to activate more than 1 crypt partition

2007-08-19 Thread Florian

Since I stumbled across the same problem I wonder where is the relation
of this bug to #394136, which was fixed in cryptsetup/2:1.0.4-4?

It doesn't work for me, so it is not fixed then? Any workaround?

thanks, florian

Unfortunately it does not (tried with current testing version of radeon
driver only).

Long version, if it matters: It worked for some minutes after restarting
the xserver after the change. Then, after a reboot, the same behaviour
returned (and will stay from now on). I saw this several times already
before, that after changing something in xorg.conf and restarting the
xserver, it seemed to work, but after (another?) restart it stopped
working again. Anyway, that's not reproducible. Sorry for this fuzzy
information, but it seems worth mentioning...

thanks,

florian

Bug#513050: linux-image-2.6.26-2-686: Kernel Oops when reconnecting external usb soundcard

2009-08-10 Thread Florian
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-2-686
Version: 2.6.26-17
Severity: normal

Hi,

I am now running 2.6.30 from unstable, and here I could not reproduce the
problem,
so as far as I am concerned the bug is fixed. Booting with 2.6.26 I still get
the
same Oops. If you provide me with a 2.6.26 kernel with the fix applied, I could
try
to check if it works, if that helps.

thanks

Florian

Bug#529178: video-radeon: Probably hardware limitation

2009-09-16 Thread Florian

Thanks for your comments (and sorry for the late reply)

Now that xorg 1.6.3 migrated to testing, together with a new radeon
driver and with a fglrx proprietary driver which does not anymore
support my hardware, I do not have a workaround anymore, except for
using VGA which is not a solution, I think (for the record, the new
radeon driver does not improve on the situation).

I tried the options and the modelines Alex suggested (see below), but
without any change in the behaviour. Every scrolling e.g. on the
bugreport page causes a 1-2 s blackout of the screen. You really stop
scrolling.

If you have any more suggestions I would be very happy (you don't even
get a new fan-less AGP card for a reasonable price easily nowadays...).

Thanks,

Florian

Bug#547660: binutils: Static linking uses much more memory with recent ld versions than before

2009-09-21 Thread Florian
Package: binutils
Version: 2.19.91.20090910-1
Severity: normal

I have observed that for recent versions of binutils, the amount of
memory (RAM) ld uses while creating a statically linked binary for a
program package I use (mainly Fortran90) is much higher than before
(with binutils 2.18). It takes now around 1 GB, whereas before it was
maybe some 100 MBs. Can this be considered a bug or is there any change
in recent versions which could explain this behaviour?

thanks,

Florian

Bug#545992: tomboy-latex: Not working until disabled and enabled again at every startup

2009-09-10 Thread Florian
Package: tomboy-latex
Version: 0.5-1
Severity: normal

After starting tomboy, tomboy-latex appears "enabled" in the
preferences, though it does not work at that time (no rendering, and no
output in the debug). I need to disable it and enable it again in the
preferences, then it works. This procedure is needed every time I start
tomboy, which is, of course, a bit annoying.

Bug#419571: cryptsetup may need to activate more than 1 crypt partition

2008-08-18 Thread Florian
I tried with the lenny beta2 debian installer businesscard image
(release selection unstable) and the daily build netinst installer from
20080816 with a similar setting as described above in the report of
Jonas and it didn't work.
With the daily build installer I get a "Can't open dev/mapper/hda1_crypt
exclusively. Mounted filesystem?" error message when trying to set up
the lvm over the crypt-devices, the beta2 businesscard installer
installs the setup without problems, but when booting it asks only for
the first password and fails setting up the lvm accordingly (as
described in the original report). I am using one sata and one pata
drive if it matters.
I wonder how it could actually work for Jonas or if I am missing something?

thanks and greetings, Florian

Bug#499332: rdiff-backup: Exception 'RPath instance has no attribute 'inc_compressed''

2008-09-17 Thread Florian
Package: rdiff-backup
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: important

This was already reported in the (closed) bug report #493373. Since it
just happened to me with version 1.2.1 (both machines up-to-date lenny,
doing a remote backup), I submit a new report.

What happened: I did an initial backup locally. Then before trying the
first remote backup, I manually changed the UID/GUID on all files in the
backup (probably not the best idea. I did it anyway.). The first backup
after that failed because of network troubles. When I tried to restart
the backup, I got the following exception:

Previous backup seems to have failed, regressing destination now.

I could actually rescue the backup by following the advice at:

Bug#568234: iceweasel: User agent string contains wrong version number (2.0), some pages do not work therefore

2010-02-03 Thread Florian
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.5.6-1
Severity: normal

The user agent string reads:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.6) Gecko/20091216 Iceweasel
Firefox/2.0.0.3
(like Firefox/3.5.6; Debian-3.5.6-1)

(note the "2.0.0.3")

This causes some webpages (requiring e.g. Firefox >= 3.0) to complain. Fixing
the string
using "user agent switcher" makes them work again.

Bug#574126: cryptsetup: Cannot open LUKS device if device mapping still exists

2010-03-16 Thread Florian
Package: cryptsetup
Version: 2:1.1.0~rc2-1
Severity: normal

I regularly get into a situation where I cannot mount my external USB disk

and I am not aware of a working workaround at the moment.
If it happens that the USB disk gets disconnected (in my case because of some
file system

then Gnome asks for the passphrase of the LUKS device again--entering the
passphrase results
in the error message:

sudo cryptsetup luksClose devkit-disks-luks-xxx

results in: "Device (null) doesn't exist or access denied.", but it can be
found in /dev/mapper/.
This looks like bug #554600.

Any other workaround other than rebooting?

Not sure if this is #509068, and it is also known it Ubuntu:
LP#484429

Thanks, Florian

Bug#603487: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: CPU runs on lowest frequency only, does not increase anymore on demand (as it used to do before)

2010-11-14 Thread Florian
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-27
Severity: important
Tags: squeeze

Since some kernel versions the CPU frequency always stays at its lowest value
(in my case, on a Intel i5 M540,
this is 1.2 GHz). I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X201 with newest BIOS installed.

 cpufreq-info tells me:

-
analyzing CPU 0:
  driver: acpi-cpufreq
CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0 1 2 3
CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0
  maximum transition latency: 10.0 us.
  hardware limits: 1.20 GHz - 2.53 GHz
available frequency steps: 2.53 GHz, 2.53 GHz, 2.40 GHz, 2.27 GHz, 2.13 GHz,
2.00 GHz, 1.87 GHz, 1.73 GHz, 1.60 GHz, 1.47 GHz, 1.33 GHz, 1.20 GHz
available cpufreq governors: conservative, powersave, userspace, ondemand,
performance
current policy: frequency should be within 1.20 GHz and 1.20 GHz.
The governor "ondemand" may decide which speed to use
  within this range.
current CPU frequency is 1.20 GHz.
  cpufreq stats: 2.53 GHz:0.00%, 2.53 GHz:0.00%, 2.40 GHz:0.00%, 2.27
GHz:0.00%, 2.13 GHz:0.00%, 2.00 GHz:0.00%, 1.87 GHz:0.00%, 1.73 GHz:0.00%, 1.60
GHz:0.00%, 1.47 GHz:0.00%, 1.33 GHz:0.00%, 1.20 GHz:100.00% (1)
-

This used to work, I tried with an older 2.6.32-9 which I still have installed:

cpufreq-info | grep "hardware limits\|current policy":
-
  hardware limits: 1.20 GHz - 2.53 GHz
current policy: frequency should be within 1.20 GHz and 2.53 GHz.
-

I am pretty sure that it stopped working not so long time ago, maybe around one
or two months ago.

Trying to change the frequency using the 'Gnome CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor'
tool does not change anything.
Note that I tried 2.6.36 from experimental, there it does not work as well.

thank you for your work,

Florian

Ok. Before I go to kernel.org's bugzilla: I have found out with the help
of snapshot.debian.org that the last working debian kernel version was
2.6.32-20:

---
cpufreq-info | grep "hardware limits\|current policy"
  hardware limits: 1.20 GHz - 2.53 GHz
current policy: frequency should be within 1.20 GHz and 2.53 GHz.
---

>From 2.6.32-21 on it stopped working. Does this help and/or shall I
anyway submit an upstream bug report?

thanks,

Florian

Bug#603487: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: CPU runs on lowest frequency only, does not increase anymore on demand (as it used to do before)

2010-11-16 Thread Florian

Ben,

> Can you try booting with the additional kernel parameter 'ignore_ppc=1'?

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to make any difference, neither with
2.6.32 nor with 2.6.36...

Yves-Alexis,

Good guess! I was running from AC without the battery installed. When I
install the battery, but continue to run from AC, it works again. What
is causing the problem then? I guess a workaround would be to install
some laptop tools to prevent a full load of the battery; is there
another solution?

thanks! Florian

Bug#601761: seahorse-plugins: gnome-screensaver does not activate when seahorse-agent prompts for password

2010-10-29 Thread Florian
Package: seahorse-plugins
Version: 2.30.1-3
Severity: normal

Reproduce:

- Make seahorse-agent ask for a password (e.g. start an application who asks
for a keyring pw)
- With the pw dialog open, try to activate the screensaver--it will not activate

This does not happen with other pw dialogs (e.g. icedove master pw, etc)

This poses a potential security risk if the screensaver is set to be activated
automatically
and some application asks for the password before (e.g., getting an encrypted
IM message, ...)
-> the screen gets never locked

thanks,

Florian

Bug#563676: gajim: Outgoing messages hard to read when using dark Gnome themes

2010-01-04 Thread Florian
Package: gajim
Version: 0.13.1-1
Severity: minor

Gajim now uses different colors for incoming and outgoing
messages--while this is a nice feature, only the color for
incoming messages seems to be determined by the Gnome color
theme, and the outgoing messages are hard to read on dark
themes. I think the color is changeable in the advanced
configuration editor, but this is not user-friendly. I think
the color used for outgoing messages should also depend on
the used theme.

thanks,

Florian

Bug#563676: Outgoing messages hard to read when using dark Gnome themes

2010-01-04 Thread Florian
Package: gajim
Severity: normal

thanks for your quick reply. For the record: Of course I checked
the style tab, but as it seems I cannot change the colors of the
text I write or receive there ("Chat line colors" change only the
color of the name of the chat partners, the color of the status
messages and the color of urls, in the "themes" section there is
no option either). If it should be there, then I might be blind or
adding it might be a possible option to solve the little but
annoying problem.
But if you prefer that I discuss this with upstream (which is partly
you, I think? ;-) ), I will of course consider doing so.

thanks again, Florian

Bug#555890: gdb: Please consider enabling Fortran90 support by merging archer-jankratochvil-vla

2009-11-12 Thread Florian
Package: gdb
Version: 7.0-1
Severity: wishlist

The standard gdb version does not support essential features of the
Fortran90/95 language, which renders debugging of Fortran rather
useless.

The archer-jankratochvil-vla branch enables Fortran90/95 support
(allocatable/assumed-shape arrays,...), see e.g.
http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=9395

It would be great to see this in Debian!

thanks,

Florian

Bug#987040: gdm3: Sometimes system locks hard after entering password

2021-04-16 Thread Florian
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.38.2.1-1
Severity: important

This has happened now two times within a week or so (never happened before) on
an up-to-date debian testing
system.

* Waking up from suspend
* Entering password on login-screen and press enter
* System freezes completely (can't change to terminal, no mouse pointer
reaction, etc)
* Only reboot helps, loosing work in suspended session

Maybe it is related to entering the wrong PW the first time, and after
entering the correct one it freezes (but I am not 100% certain whether
that was also the case last time it happened).

There is (to my eyes) nothing suspicious in the syslog before the
crash (a lot of annoying tracker messages flooding the log, but that
seems to be "normal").

Unfortunately/fortunately I have not yet found a way to reliably
reproduce it.

Thanks, Florian

Bug#987040: gdm3: Sometimes system locks hard after entering password

2021-04-19 Thread Florian
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.38.2.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #987040

This now happened three more times. And the original bugreport was a
bit misleading, it is the screensaver screen and not the login screen
of course. There were again no messages in the syslog, or only a
couple of scrambled lines. A bit worrying so short before the release
I think, but maybe I am the only one affected.

Bug#987040: gdm3: Sometimes system locks hard after entering password

2021-04-25 Thread Florian
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.38.2.1-1
Followup-For: Bug #987040

I have now found the trigger for the locks: This always happens when I
have a sshfs connection open at the time when going to suspend. The
sshfs connection needs an established vpn, which isn't there when
returning from suspend. As soon as the user logs in (pressing "Enter"
in the screensaver dialog), the unavailable sshfs connection seems to
lock gdm3 completely. It is actually not a complete hard-lock, playing
music when going to suspend just continues after waking up and also
after gdm3 has locked.

It seems that sshfs is known to have this kind of problems (#571005),
but I guess gdm3 should not lock in this (or any) kind of situation ...

When removing .local/share/gajim, gajim starts normally.

I would prefer not to loose my settings, and the same .local/share/gajim
worked before v1.2.

Thanks, Florian

I tried this, unfortunately without success. gajim still crashes with
the same error message.

No image is shown, instead only a white rectangle is visible.

Yes, I had this table in logs.db, and after removing it gajim now starts
again. It is now constantly trying to "connect", without success, to an
account which previously worked, but this is now another problem/issue ...

I will report this also to the upstream issue.

Thanks a lot!

I can confirm that it works now under wayland for me, provided that "Use

Well, you didn't match the Perl regular expression[0], so katie, the
archive maintenance script, skipped some entries. And the two bugs
katie noticed were only tagged as "fixed" and not closed since you
used an invalid email address in the changelog, so Shaul's was
inserted when he rebuilt your package for signing and uploading, thus
effectively marking it as an NMU...

But I bet you two already figured that out, so please keep up the good
work. The package is looking good on the buildd[1] :)

Bug#291482: transcriber: feature request: slow down sound like Audacity's "change tempo"

2005-01-20 Thread Florian Schlichting
Package: transcriber
Version: 1.4.6-4
Severity: wishlist

transcriber is very useful software, and helps transcription of all
kind of materials a lot. Yet, some people speak faster than I am able to
type, and I have seen proprietary software that can make such
transcriptions much easier by reducing the speed of speech without
changing the pitch of the voice.

I recently noticed that a similar function is included in Audacity (the
free "DJ-mixer"), accessible under Effect->Change tempo, so it's neither
secret nor magic, and I would be very happy if this could also be
included in transcriber :-)

Bug#291658: nessus-plugins: non-free

2005-01-21 Thread Florian Weimer
Package: nessus-plugins
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

Upstream claims that large parts of nessus-plugins has never been
licensed under the GPL. The copyright status of many NASL scripts is
indeed very unclear.

The new upstream license does not give permission to redistribute, so
it's not suitable for non-free either.

Tenable claims that the GPL has never applied to their plugins, only
to the plugins that were explicitly released under the GPL.

The plugins I'm most interested in are:

#
# (C) Tenable Network Security
#
# v1.2: use the same requests as MS checktool
# v1.16: use one of eEye's request when a null session can't be established
#

(msrpc_dcom2.nasl)

#
# This script is (C) Tenable Network Security
# 10/22/2003 updated by KK Liu 10/22/2003
# - check messenger service, if not on - exit
# - check Windows OS
#

(messenger_ms03-043.nasl)

#
# (C) Renaud Deraison
#

(http_asn1_decoding.nasl)

I doubt we can say for sure that these plugins were covered by the
GPL, even though they are distributed in a tarball which happens to
contain a COPYING file.

Tenable Network Security claims this relicensing never happened for
the plugins. (I've asked them.)

Mere aggregation with GPL-covered works does not cause software to
fall under the GPL automatically, so Debian is unfortunately on rather
thin ice. 8-(

"smerge -IB //local/path //mirrored-path" opens a new connection for

This causes lengthy mirror operations to fail because the server will

Bug#291954: The kdebase templates and the German translation

OK, some good news and some bad news: all three translations appear to
be consistent and basically suitable, yet all three still contain some
mistakes.

As I cannot find any further traces of Burkhard in the archives I tend
to believe this was his first work and he didn't know about the proper
procedures well enough. Nonetheless I hope he will continue, perhaps
from now on more or less loosely coordinated with the l10n-german
mailing list :)
Further hints might be taken from him setting the translation team to
the KDE l10n list and not heeding several standards the Debian
l10n-german list has previously agreed upon, so I don't think his
translation will find this list's acceptance as-is.

Well, this happens. Unfortunately it happened twice, baaad KDE team
and baaad Erik :P

Helge already mentioned in #252060 how he thinks Erik's translation is
nice, but he added some corrections. I think those are basically
justified, but were still in need of some improvement, so I
incorporated them into a new de.po, waiting for the l10n-german list
to approve or improve.

For the sake of comparison and completeness I put all files at
<http://people.debian.org/~florian/l10n-german/>, naming the file from
the corresponding bugreport right after it, the .new file being the
version changed by me, containing the corrections previously
suggested, and the .diff containing the diff -u output.
The one I personally favor is 264608.de.po.new.

And for clarity's sake I explain why I preferred not to use "während"
but took "beim" instead: "während" is generally coupled with Genitiv,
combined with Dativ it's rather colloquial instead; but using the
correct case here sounds quite awkward in German so I tried to
circumvent that problem by using alternative phrasing.

Erik, Helge, Burkhard, others, what do you think about all this?

Cheers,
Flo

PS: Not CCing Helge as he's on the list.

It is not fixed before debian officially switches to gcc 3.4 or higher.
Currently it is 3.3.5. However I do not care for this bug to be fixed
since it is appearantly specific to compilers prior to 3.4 and there are
currently to many bugs in debian-amd64 for me to use it consistently. So

solve that bug in time for me.
So, I'm fine with this bug being closed, since fixing it might just take

The version Debian currently ships as readv.3 is actually the upstream
readv.3 as it was present until 1.48, as also the infodrom cvs status
suggests.
readv.2 appears to be an updated version of this old readv.3, so I
guess this bug can be fixed by simply dropping readv.3 and writev.3
from the diff.gz.

Even though I'd personally agree with all this reasoning, it's
basically a moot point considering that dqs has been removed from
unstable on Mon, 12 Jan 2004 22:43:15 -0500 with "ROM; very old,

The upstream changelog lists for 2.12
| mlock.2
| mtk
| Reworded text around PAGESIZE, noting also that
| sysconf(_SC_PAGESIZE) can be used.
and now the manpages reads
| On POSIX systems on which

So I guess this bug is now fixed-upstream and could be closed once
