Bug#289715: Same already fixed bugs are back rendering Impress almost unusable
Chris Halls wrote: Looking at the stack trace, this is the same crash as reported in 289715 so I'm merging the bug. Looking at the code, OOo is dealing with font lists which are likely to be different on your machine to mine, which may be why I can't reproduce this here. Please can you do the same as I asked the submitter of #284096 to do: --- Please download this file: http://people.debian.org/~halls/openoffice/test/libsvt645li.so.bz2 It is a version of the library that crashes with debugging symbols included. bunzip the file and copy into /usr/lib/openoffice/program, replacing the file that is there from the package. Then, reproduce the crash. When the crash dialog comes up, do not click it away but instead execute this from the command line (make sure you have gdb installed) echo thread apply all bt > gdb.script gdb -p $(pgrep -u $USER soffice.bin| head -1) < gdb.script | tee oo.log Please send oo.log to the bug report. As already reported be me and others, the crash while selecting the second item of the menu (#284096) has suddently vanished while doing an upgrade of _apparently_ unrelated libraries. I recorded it in bug (#284096) But there is still some bugs happening when doing this, as suddenly, after selectiong the second item on menu, some color for text on the master slide permanently change on display (not the document itself because if I close and relaod color is restored ??? The single word color selection (#289715) is still broken for me. I suggest you insist on someone still having the bug. I would be glad to downgrade a library to reproduce it but I have no clue of what changed to make the bug disappear. Annoying because as stated a bug that disappear may reappear. For me it something like a wrong pointer that corrupt something unrelated that depend on libraries size for final placement... Anyway I would suggest to not merge the two bugs as one is a crash and another is a wrong behavior. -- __ / ` Eric Valette /-- __ o _. 6 rue Paul Le Flem (___, / (_(_(__ 35740 Pace Tel: +33 (0)2 99 85 26 76 Fax: +33 (0)2 99 85 26 76 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#284096: Could you check the bug of single word color modification
Chris, I would also like to thank you for taking the time for chasing this bug. Indeed it seems finally to have something with printing as initially suggested (or cups server support at least). Could you see if you can reproduce also the bug #289715 in the same non working condition. I have indeed added the KDE look and feel package in the mean time which explains why the bug did disappear. -- eric -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Black magic somewhere. > > > Sorry, I don't completely understand: You don't know which package's > postinst you were running? Or you do know this (which?) but don't > remember where you took the postinst from? I (of course!) took the postinst of the failing packages aka tex-common. (Do not assume I'm stupid please). When I ran "postinst configure" it prompted a dialog window asking to either keep my installed version of a configuration file (THAT configuration file name I do not remember) and I selected replace by maintainer version as I wanted to be sure the problem was not comming from incompatible version of this configuration file. The "postins" command suceeded and the "apt-get -f install" after it. So if the problem was involing only "debconf", I suspect the run by hand "postinst configure" would have not solved it magically. You can continue to play ping pong between tex-common and debconf or close the bug. I guess it will resurface later via another bug. BTW the bug leading for the change in tex-common 0.9->0.10 looks very similar as my debconf default config is "dialog/LOW". -- __ / ` Eric Valette /-- __ o _. 6 rue Paul Le Flem (___, / (_(_(__ 35740 Pace Tel: +33 (0)2 99 85 26 76 Fax: +33 (0)2 99 85 26 76 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It was indeed an error message from debconf. I also serched in the postinst script to show the line that caused the problem but unfortunately it does not helps because it depends on dynamic content of a parameter. > I don't see how a configuration file could be on your system that is > neither any old known nor the new version unless one of two things > happened: > - it was a problem with your local debconf installation, and it was in > fact fixed by reinstalling it, although you first said it wasn't (how > did you check?). When you do "apt-get install --reinstall dialog debconf" and then apt-get -f install, whitout fixing the problem, I think I can say it did not change. I also tried to reconfigure debconf with "dpkg-reconfigure debconf" to put readline instead of dialog but this did not help either. > In this case, the postinst script failed right while > loading confmodule, and never got to the file changed dialog. Correct. I never saw the dialog before running "sh -x ./postinst configure" by hand. As far as I know, I did not edit any file by hand, installed several packages which lead to try the postinst procedure several time without changing anything. OK. Do not waste your time any further, I have now a fully functionnal system and as you cannot reproduce this bug, I propose to close it. Use it as an hint if someone else comes with a similar problem. I had corrupted debconf database once and yes it can cause problem on any package but it has been working for months without problem. -- __ / ` Eric Valette /-- __ o _. 6 rue Paul Le Flem (___, / (_(_(__ 35740 Pace Tel: +33 (0)2 99 85 26 76 Fax: +33 (0)2 99 85 26 76 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#308603: kdebase: [KDE 3.4] disk led keep blicking since 3.4 installation
Package: kdebase Version: 4:3.4.0-0pre3 Severity: important Tags: experimental Since installation of kde 3.4, my disk led keeps blickink and this is specifically tied to kde (switching to other windows manager in kdm the problem disappears). I have checked that it actually does not write anything to disk as "df" and especially log or tmp does not grow. So it is a read access. The problem is severe because on latop it prevents to use the dsik powermanagement feature. using lsof, I did not clearly found a possible culprit. Nice job of tracing that! The installer is not really set up to work with kernels that are configured totally different from the standard Debian kernels. If you really have a totally different kernel, you may run into other issues as well later on in the installation. > Will fill a bug because it almost prevent to easilly upgrade to a > newer/better configured kernel. Note that "better configured" is a subjective opinion. For the installer, it is much better (or at least safer) to start with the configuration the Debian kernel uses. How you configure the kernel for your installed system is of course completely up to you. This particular issue is fairly easily avoided, so I have no problem with fixing it. And I tried those steps since I knew you would reeaper trolling if the bug came back Trolling? Hummm for me Impress is _unusable_ for anything serious (I mean other than browsing already existing powerpoints slides). Nevermind that's interesting because : 1) either you do not "eat your own dog food" and do not use the exact same binaries/libraries that are in the package (or you distribution is not up to date. Mine (sid) is updated daily). Have you a recent sid incarnation? 2) or the bug is not in the binaries themselves but in the environment. The NPTL implementation is much faster and data locking/corruption bug may be triggered when using NPTL. -- eric Here are the dynamic library that are used in my case with a 2.6 kernel : ldd /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin libvcl645li.so => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libvcl645li.so ( 0x421d2000) libsvl645li.so => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libsvl645li.so (0x42cd80 00) libsvt645li.so => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libsvt645li.so (0x4258e0 00) libutl645li.so => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libutl645li.so (0x4187f0 00) libtl645li.so => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libtl645li.so (0x416fd000 ) libcomphelp3gcc3.so => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libcomphelp3gcc3.so (0x41643000) libucbhelper2gcc3.so => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libucbhelper2gcc3. so (0x417b1000) libvos3gcc3.so => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libvos3gcc3.so (0x4183e0 00) libcppuhelpergcc3.so.3 => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libcppuhelpergcc 3.so.3 (0x414d7000) libcppu.so.3 => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libcppu.so.3 (0x41526000) libsal.so.3 => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libsal.so.3 (0x41189000) libtk645li.so => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libtk645li.so (0x42a06000 ) libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x4186a000) libSM.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.so.6 (0x419a4000) libICE.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.so.6 (0x4198b000) libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x4154e000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/tls/libdl.so.2 (0x41184000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0x41173000) libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x4114f000) libstlport_gcc.so.4.6 => /usr/lib/libstlport_gcc.so.4.6 (0x41343000) libstdc++.so.5 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5 (0x4140d000) libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0xb7fdd000) libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x41019000) libsot645li.so => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libsot645li.so (0x4251a0 00) libicuuc.so.22 => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libicuuc.so.22 (0x4247e0 00) libicule.so.22 => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libicule.so.22 (0x425670 00) libfreetype.so.6 => /usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6 (0x4191c000) libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1 (0x4162f000) libart_lgpl_2.so.2 => /usr/lib/libart_lgpl_2.so.2 (0x41617000) libsalhelpergcc3.so.3 => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libsalhelpergcc3. so.3 (0x4187a000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x4100) libicudata.so.22 => /usr/lib/openoffice/program/libicudata.so.22 (0x41 9af000) -- eric

Bug#284096: problem depends on Window manager?
You are right : only gnome _seems_ to work but in fact it corrupt something too : the color of the master slide footer title changed from yellow to black... I also tested fvwm2 and it crashes as KDE does. Does it ring a bell? Maintainers could try to reproduce the bugs on KDE if they use gnome as their favorite window manager... -- eric -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#284096: Re : Bug#284096: Bug seems to have disappeared
I was having this problem previously. Selecting font tab in modify style Or Format->Character would crash Writer. This was on a new sarge/sid KDE desktop that I reinstall a couple weeks ago. So last week (on the 10/01/2005) I was getting this happening with a document I was writing. Now today for some reason its not occuring. Unfortunately I don't have apt-listchanges install, otherwise I might tell if anything I've upgraded since this date might have affected this. I confirm this chnage. However, single word color selection is still impossible (see bug #289715) and, from experience, a bug that misteriously disappear may also reappear... -- eric -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#732195: Fwd: Re: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#732195: Bug#732195: udisks2: KDE usb key insertion notification fails to mount usk disks
There you have your problem: You use policykit-1 from experimental which uses systemd-logind as backend but you don't have a logind session registered. An educated guess is, that you don't have libpam-systemd installed (which is installed by default via recommends). Which package recommends it? As I have the problem on all my machines I assume, I got no recommends at all. Package: calendar-exchange-provider Version: 3.2.0~beta47-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I have an exchange 2010 server than worked well with 17.0.x. I use iceowl-extension and calendar-exchange-provider debian packages and not the upstream binary version of the equivalent package. Is icedove 24.0 really TB 24.0 or 24.0.1 because 24.0.1 requires lightning 2.6.1 and 24.1 requires lightning 2.6.2... This is very annoying as I have lost all my apointments. The suggestion to use udisk2 just assumes that you use logind libpam-systemd and systemd itself which is my case is not possible because it breaks pulseaudio. You can then switch to vt9 on shutdown and examine where the system hangs with systemctl list-jobs. The upstream wiki [0] has a section about "Diagnosing Shutdown Problems" http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/Debugging/ Please follow those instructions and let us know at which service/unit the system blocks. Actually its samba. I have a message that says something along a LSB startup job is running and it points to smbd and nmbd. Actually even with sysv init system there is a problem on shutdown as samba stop script seems to be called twice. Its a bug in samba start stop logic that was introduced with samba4 probably as I have it actaully on all my debian machines (more than 5...). I bet it has something to do with network up script but cannot find where. There should be a timeout on shutdown, so it shouldn't block forever. Yes indeed. Bug#739887: Fix is not convenient for sysv users
Note that as I was affected by the bug preventing systemd to shutdown at reasonable speed I removed the dependency lines. It may be fine for systemd but it is still buggy for sysv init: the shutdown scripts are called multiple times and thus it make the shutdown slows as it wait before trying to kill the daemons. Bug#745550: May be related to systemd
On 05/27/2014 01:25 AM, Felipe Sateler wrote: On Mon, May 19, 2014 at 10:33 AM, Eric Valette wrote: When I saw problem with dbus and as I moved recently to systemd init, I suspected systemd changes/init system chnage might be related. Switched back to sysv init and problem is gone. I now have my analog audio device back, pulseaudio does no more hange same thing for Phonon. Are you sure this is the correct bug? I think this is meant for #748651 Absolutely. It is while I tried to debug this one that I discovered #748651 by trying to launch pulseaudio in debug mode and it was stuck for 2 mins. For the record, I also suffered #745550 on my home main computer: no sound, kde multimedia pulseaudio config hanging at launch, but had to leave home for work before fixing it. Then on my professional computer, I discovered I had no sound too and that the analog audio device indeed disappeared as per this bug. Bug #74865, led me to dbus and as moving to systemd was one of the main change I did recently on both computers and I know it heavily uses dbus/udev, I tried to switch back to sysv init and it solved the problem right away on both machines. I have no clue on the reason and anyway, the number of bug I have found already using systemd is huge enough and I will wait a bit it stabilize. -- eric -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#745550: May be related to systemd
On 05/27/2014 05:23 PM, Felipe Sateler wrote: Hi Eric, So, let me summarize what you did: 1. After some upgrades, pulseaudio didn't see the analog output, just the HDMI one. I just *first* noticed I had no more sound. As in both case I use analog output and not HDMI (because monitors I use have no speakers), the cause was probably the same (no more analog audio device) on the two machines although after fixing it on one computer I only verified that reinstalling sysinit-core on the second and rebooting also fixed the problem on the second machine. 2. Around the same time, pulseaudio started hanging on startup, returning EAGAIN from the system dbus socket While trying to debug the "no sound", I noticed first kde audio/multimedia config was hanging on my first machine and later on my other machine at work that indeed the pulseaudio was stuck for nearly 2 mins (this probably causing the kde multimedia config panel to hang waiting for pulse) and that anyway, at the end the analog audio device was not there. 3. Installing sysvinit-core fixes both issues Yes on both machines. Is this understanding correct? Yes. If so, I'm still not sure these are both the same bug: (3) could be a race in the boot scripts only exposed by systemd, unrelated to the dbus issue. I dunno if the bugs are indeed exactly the same or two expressions of a same root cause but they are both fixed when going back to sysv init. The race in the boot happens on very different type machine (an old core i5 laptop single core/hyperthreaded with classical disk 4GB RAM and a high end core I7 quad core hyperthreaded with SSD and 16 GByte memory). Are you willing to try to reproduce the issues again using systemd? This can be done by passing init=/bin/systemd in the grub screen (no need to reinstall systemd-sysv). Although I fear we will need help from the dbus and systemd folks to debug this. If you do not manage to reproduce the bug I can spend a limited amount of time at it. The fact that the two machines are very different may help reproducing it. Maybe you could try to get info from original reporter to see if his problem is also fixed by reinstalling sysvinit-core as an extra hint. NB: both machines were using systemd 208 from experimental. I dunno if problem is related to this version of systemd because I'm nearly 100% sure I have been using systemd208 with sound for a while before it broke the same day after upgrading. And to be fair about my setup that is *unusual*: both machines have a distinct / and /usr (I know this i now considered to be bad for systemd but the 7.0 installer stills allows that without even emitting a warning...) , do not use initramfs and self tuned recent kernels dedicated to the machines with all drivers build-in (except nvidia one ;-)). --eric -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
