Bug#904797: test suite example package should build both any and all packages

2018-07-28 Thread Ian Jackson
Package: dgit
Version: 6.0
Severity: wishlist

This will involve g-f-b on the example git repo and probably messing
with some of the built soure package artefacts.

And it will probably make some tests fail.

Ian.

Congratulations! Good progress with the latest ISO image.
IMO these packages need to be added as well:
exim4-daemon-heavy (sure)
sudo-ldap (most probably)

New build in place now at the same URL, which looks much better to

Bug#904798: chromium: Chromium failed to upgrade

Upgrading chromium on a sid box failed :

Forcing the purge of chromium-common solve the problem for me,
chromium should probably conflict with it.

 The reason why I got this is I used "sphinx-build -b html", instead of
 broken "sphinx-build -M html". -b option works correctly, and now I got
 error.

 It's debian/rules file is very simple

Bug#904803: pugixml: please update to new version 1.9

2018-07-28 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna
Source: pugixml

Severity: wishlist

Version: 1.8.1-7

Please update to version 1.9, it is needed for the new poedit (I relaxed the
dependency constraint,

but I'm really unsure about what does it might break!)

I can NMU if necessary,

(it would also be nice to fix the wchar bug in this upload)

I took the liberty to push on salsa.d.o the changes I did, with some (hopefully
appreciated) polishing

of the packaging, such as fixing lintian warnings, and updating versions (and
use https/new VCS fields)

* Non-maintainer upload (Closes: #-1)

* Move vcs to salsa.d.o

* Drop duplicated "section" libs

* Bump std-version to 4.1.5, no changes required

* New upstream release

* Patch refresh

* Update copyright file

let me know if I can push the package!

I'm doing a test build here

http://debomatic-amd64.debian.net/distribution#unstable/pugixml/1.9-0.1/buildlog

thanks!

These tests only started to fail with the upload of python-array
0.10.2-1. Previously, the NetCDF tests were not run.

The same failures occur on armhf, and I believe the cause is different
NaN behaviour on x86 and ARM CPUs [1].

If the problem isn't in python-xarray itself, perhaps the solution is
just to skip these failing tests on ARM.

Bug#904804: debootstrap: Unable to deboostrap a sid environment on stretch

2018-07-28 Thread Nicolas Braud-Santoni
Package: debootstrap
Version: 1.0.89
Severity: important
Control: tag -1 + sid stretch

Hi,

I just realised it's currently impossible to debootstrap a sid (build)
environment on Debian stretch, creating difficulties for attendees of the
DebConf packaging workshop, presumably because of util-linux being
uninstallable.

Please find included the build log; the exact debootstrap invocation was:
  sudo debootstrap sid /tmp/debootstrap http://localhost:3142/debian

(localhost:3142 being a freshly-initialized apt-cacher)

Best,

  nicoo

PS: Apologies if this is assigned to the wrong package, I was unsure whether to
assign it to debootstrap or util-linux.

I guess that's not too hard to fix, but the fact that it's still open

Bug#904807: josm: chinese fonts in editor

2018-07-28 Thread Ralf Treinen
Package: josm
Version: 0.0.svn14026+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Chinese characters are for me not usable in josm, they appear just
as a box. I suppose that these are traditional chinese characters
since I try to edit a map in Taiwan. For instance, the name
of the object

https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/340655083

appears for me in josm, both in the map pane and in the editor windows,
only as boxes. However, the selector tool for downloading a portion
of a map indicates the names in chinese characters, as does the map
rendering in firefox. I basically know nothing about CJK stuff so I
just installed task-chinese-t but this didn't help.

-Ralf.

We never break packages in testing (unless it's a critical situation, and this
obviously isn't). Also the cruft package in unstable doesn't hurt much, so it
can be left around for a while longer. What we want to do here is to get rid of
the old library in testing in order to finish the transition there: the only two
options for that are to remove scilab or to fix it. Given it's a key package and
probably has rdeps that'd mean the latter.

Bug#904808: libcap-ng0: libcap-ng's use of pthread_atfork causes segfaults

2018-07-28 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Package: libcap-ng0
Version: 0.7.9-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

apache httpd loads and unloads modules during a reload of the server
configuration. This causes the pthread_atfork entry that is installed by
libcap-ng0 to point to code that is no longer in the process, causing a
segfault at the next fork.

See
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=902657

There is already an upstream bug report about this:

https://github.com/stevegrubb/libcap-ng/issues/5

Since there is no interface to undo a pthread_atfork() call, there is no
way a shared library can call pthread_atfork() in a safe way. libcap-ng0
should not do it.

Cheers,
Stefan

 I confirmed it with current debootstrap on sid, but it's not
 debootstrap's fault but it's in repo.

 However, util-linux is (2.32-0.1). I'm not sure which side should care

the base system installation fails due to missing exim4-daemon-heavy on
the ISO image (expected, because it's non-standard but required for
edu).

iirc sudo-ldap needs to be there to prevent the simple sudo
(standard) to get installed.

keep on going :)
I'll test the ISO image if time permits.

The problem is caused by libcap-ng0 0.7.9 . This is usually pulled in by php
extensions. There is nothing apache can do.

Unfortunately, downgrading to 0.7.7 from stretch is not possible due to
dependencies.

Dear Maintainer,

I have /home in a different partition from root /, and pbuilder-dist installs
files
under /home/user/pbuilder/ folder. Causing the following error when
trying to build a package:

ln: failed to create hard link
'/home/koike/pbuilder/aptcache/debian/libxdamage1_1%3a1.1.4-3_amd64.deb' =>

This happends because it is trying to create a hardlink between two

Bug#904779: openmpi-bin: any program hangs on first MPI call (e.g. MPI_Init())

2018-07-28 Thread Alastair McKinstry

I cannot reproduce this problem. Can we debug it further ?

(1) How did you execute it ? mpiexec command line , etc?

(2) Can you give the output of :

$ dpkg -l | grep pmix

$ dpkg -l | grep psm

Any changes to /etc/openmpi/* files or environmental variables

Best regards

Package: openmpi-bin

Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

since the latest wave of package updates (gnu compilers big version switch +
new openmpi package) even the simplest code, compiled by mpicc.openmpi (or
mpif90.openmpi) hangs forever on first initialisation of MPI. Even the
following "hello world" does it on my machine:

#include
#include
#include
#include
#include
#include
#include
#include

int main(int argc, char **argv){

   int nprocs=0, myrank=0, ierr=0;

   ierr = MPI_Init( &argc, &argv);

   ierr = MPI_Comm_rank(MPI_COMM_WORLD, &myrank);
   ierr = MPI_Comm_size(MPI_COMM_WORLD, &nprocs);

   printf("MPI_Init call ok\n");
   printf("My rank is = %d\n", myrank);
   printf("number of procs is = %d\n", nprocs);
   printf("\n");
   ierr = MPI_Finalize();
   printf("MPI_Finalize call ok, returned %d\n", ierr);
   return 0;

}

Of course, this makes the package completely unusable for me. I don't know
whether this can be related to bug #584699: in fact my laptop is not really
multihomed. Please let me know if there is something I can do to help
pinpoint this. By the way, the above snippet of code works perfectly if
compiled and run under mpich.

Giacomo Mulas

And now it becomes really critical for the hurd-i386 port since the
shadow break, we really need to have the new version of util-linux built
otherwise we can't build anything on the buildds.

Could you please reupload util-linux with the attached patch from

It doesn't matter what the input is, if it can trigger a double-free

Bug#904817: lintian: Warn that depending on both Python 2 and Python 3 interpreters is unusual, likely a mistake?

2018-07-28 Thread Stuart Prescott
Package: lintian
Version: 2.5.94
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

In the upload of translate-toolkit 2.3.0-3, I ended up with the following:

Depends: python3, python3-pkg-resources, python3-six, python3-translate,
python3:any, python:any

such that the package depended on both the Python 2 and Python 3 interpreters.
It is unlikely that this is desired (and was not in this case!). My mistake
was that there was one script that still had a #!/usr/bin/python even though
everything had supposedly been converted to Python 3.

Variants of python/python:any/python2.7/python2.7:any mixed with variants of
python3/python3:all/python3.x/python3.x:any are likely to be incorrect.

(Perhaps there are indeed legitimate use cases for this that I haven't
imagined and consulting d-python@ might be sensible.)

cheers
Stuart

Sorry, I looked at the file list on packages.debian.org which turns out
to be stale even though it's showing the current version number.

>

It didn't show up on this bug's message log because you didn't write
the control commands properly.

So, you conveyed the upstream author's explanation, but it doesn't
answer why it's OK to install that version of zcat as a replacement for
GNU zcat. I'm sure some people like to have all the cat options when
using zcat interactively, but it is also used programmatically and
probably not only by initramfs-tools. You seem to have accepted that
and fixed it, so I don't know why you then assigned the bug back.

The double-free bug in zutils zcat is presumably still unfixed, so I'm
cloning a separate bug for that.

I'm leaving #903931 assigned to initramfs-tools since I might as well
work around the zcat incompatibility. But please don't take it as a
cue to revert the change in zutils, when that is closed.

Ben.

Bug#904612: packaging of qcoan fully revised

2018-07-28 Thread Elmar Stellnberger
The packaging quality of qcoan has been highly improved since my
original RFS. There are no more lintian errors that should be resolved
and with the advice from wRAR at #debian-mentors I have improved the
package internals (no nested .tar.bz2, debian/install list).

Bug#904822: linux-image-4.17.0-1-amd64: Freeze/timing/interrupt problems since 4.17

2018-07-28 Thread Nicolas George
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.17.8-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Since kernel 4.17.8-1 have migrated to testing, I have been experiencing the
two following issues, that I believe are related:

- Processes doing disk accesses sometimes go into D state, while the
  disk itself is idle and the kernel reports nothing spurious (in
  particular no hardware timeout nor bus reset), and stay there several
  seconds or many minutes.

- The audio device takes a noticeable time to open.

Both could be explained by some kind of interrupt problem.

For the audio device, I have the following strace output for "aplay -f
S16_LE -r 48000 -c 2 /dev/zero":

1532683807.044375 ioctl(3, SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_PCM_PREFER_SUBDEVICE,
0x7fffbb82edcc) = 0 <0.06>
1532683807.044393 openat(AT_FDCWD, "/dev/snd/pcmC0D0p",
O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK|O_CLOEXEC) = 4 <0.161654>
1532683807.206124 fcntl(4, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0 <0.18>

Notice the 0.16 seconds to open pcmC0D0p. If the same command is run less
than a few seconds after the last use of the audio device, it goes down to:

1532683819.333547 ioctl(3, SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_PCM_PREFER_SUBDEVICE,
0x7fffd28eadec) = 0 <0.06>
1532683819.333565 openat(AT_FDCWD, "/dev/snd/pcmC0D0p",
O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK|O_CLOEXEC) = 4 <0.22>
1532683819.333599 fcntl(4, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0 <0.05>

With kernel 4.16.0-2-amd64, it is always fast:

1532770761.849012 ioctl(3, SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_PCM_PREFER_SUBDEVICE,
0x7ffeb256f63c) = 0 <0.06>
1532770761.849034 openat(AT_FDCWD, "/dev/snd/pcmC0D0p",
O_RDWR|O_APPEND|O_NONBLOCK|O_CLOEXEC) = 4 <0.12>
1532770761.849064 fcntl(4, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0 <0.05>

For the problem with processes in D state, I have the following kernel
backtrace. The hard drive was behaving normally at the time, mostly idle (by
ear):

Hi!
I've done only a very cursory review so far, and I see:

* menu bar in GTK3 programs is squashed, here's a screenshot:
  https://angband.pl/tmp/mint-y-menu.png
  GTK2 programs are ok, so are QT (QT uses GTK2 theme, I think it can be
  configured for GTK3 these days though)

* both in -theme and -icons, you ship pre-built files, and don't even delete
  them during build. That makes it hard to ensure that what you install is
  indeed built from provided source.

  It would be best to repack the .orig tarballs to remove usr/ dirs inside
  -- besides making things unclear, they also waste space, and might
  possibly include parts that don't have source.

* the copyright files in both -theme and -icons need to include all authors
  (you can often get away with naming a group, though). They don't even
  list files in debian/ (the packaging). In -theme, the README.md says it
  is based on Arc. In -icons, there's a long list of themes some categories
  of icons have been copied from. Those authors need to be mentioned.

  There's a disagreement on how detailed the list should be: some people
  want everything to be accurate down every file, others say something like:
  Files: *Copyright: 1991-2012 Linus Torvalds and many others
  You need to do it detailed enough to pass ftpmasters' review, and their
  minimal requirements tend to be somehwere in the middle. And here, you
  didn't list most authors at all, even as part of a group.

Meow!

(.sig related -- but no matter how _I_ feel about copyright, with a DD hat
on I still need to respect it, as it's not up to me to decide)

VLC can reproduce audio if the sound device is setup trhough alsa.
anyother test throws the same result: alsa detects the devices without

Bug#904791: Report against libfprint instead of fprintd, and info about prepared NMU

2018-07-28 Thread Boyuan Yang
Control: retitle -1 libfprint: Please switch upstream and follow
latest fprintd release (0.8.2)
Control: reassign -1 libfprint
X-Debbugs-CC: der...@debian.org o...@debian.org bi...@debian.org

Dear libfprint maintainers,

I have prepared a new upload for libfprint v0.8.2 as an NMU. You may
find my work here:

  https://salsa.debian.org/hosiet-guest/libfprint.git

Changes since the last upload:

 libfprint (1:0.8.2-0.1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * New 0.8.2 upstream release, with ABI breakage but no API breakage:
 - Add Elan driver
 - Integrate several security fixes (Closes: #890827)
 - Remove already replaced UPEKE2 driver
 - Add USB ID for TNP Nano USB Fingerprint Reader
 - Various fixes
 - Port to meson build system
 - Port to gtk-doc documentation system
   * debian: Apply "wrap-and-sort -abst" to sort file contents
   * debian/control:
 - Bump Standards-Version to 4.1.5
 - Use Priority: optional instead of deprecated Priority: extra
 - Update Vcs fields to use git repository on Salsa Debian group
 - Bump debhelper compat to v11.
 - Add new build dependencies: udev, meson, gtk-doc-tools
   * debian/changelog: Remove trailing spaces.
   * debian/patches:
 - Remove old leftover for backported patches
 - Backport upstream fix for building with new meson
 - Block old patches for kFreeBSD for now, they would cause conflicts
   * debian/rules:
 - Modernize packaging instructions for meson buildsystem
 - Update searching for .rules file in override_dh_installudev
   * debian/gbp.conf: Removed to use default git repository layout
   * debian/libfprint-dev.install: Remove installation of legacy .la/.a files
   * debian/libfprint0.symbols:
 - Add new symbols introduced in new release
 - Manually tweak the version requirement for one symbol due to upstream
   ABI breakage

The new release introduces ABI breakage but no API breakage thus no
transition would be needed.
However, a rebuild (binNMU) might be needed for fprintd and fprintd-demo.

Please consider reviewing my work. I'd be glad to provide with more help.

I tried to reproduce the issue with a Stretch i386 VM.

So maybe you could deliver some more information about

Upstream appear willing to fix this issue. LP #1498366 has

 Changed in hplip:
 status:In Progress → Fix Committed

from kritika arora (kritika-arora1) on 2017-02-07.

However, hplip_3.18.6+dfsg0.orig.tar.xz in experimental has no mention
of "surrogate". Perhaps the fix has been done in another way (test) or
it will appear in a future release of hplip. I'd suggest some gentle
prodding at #1498366 to ascertain upstream's intentions.

Regards,

Brian.

Change /etc/pulse/default.pa to automatically load module-alsa-sink on

This is also a problem in buster (which is still using 11.1-5)

Thinking about it, we have:

https://lintian.debian.org/tags/python-package-depends-on-package-from-other-python-variant.html

This won't trigger for packages unless they are called /
^python([23]?)-/ however. Indeed, this seems to be required so we
"know" that a package is a "2" or a "3".

Would this have matched otherwise?

I tried a different display manager to lightdm (I installed Slim to no

The only thing that worked was...

I used Ctl-Alt-F1 to get a normal terminal, and then installed LXDE (apt

The two doc-base files for python-openbabel use the same document-id and format

As in understand, only different formats of the same document should share

Using different document-ids in the "Document:" field solves the conflict.

"I am %s" alone can have 2 translation string options in French since
"%s" may be a name or a job title. I wasn't paying attention. Clearly,
this text with "Hello" should be followed by name.

Well... true. But this PO in this document was a variant of "hello
world" program

msgid "Hello. My name is %s.\n"
msgstr "Bonjour. Je m'appelle %s.\n"

Never blindly trust google translate ;-)

I will work on it.

Bug#883950: Next steps on "[GPL-3+]" proposal

I do not believe there is anything like consensus on the introduction of
brackets like this and, to the contrary, I think it is more likely a rough
consensus that this proposal can proceed *without* the addition of brackets,
modulo approval from ftp-master. The brackets are cryptic, unnecessarily,
and complicate the format for those trying to machine parse it (which is,
after all, a significant reason for the format to exist).

Let us consider this proposed syntax in terms of what someone unfamiliar
with the format is going to see:

 Files: foo/*.c
 License: [GPL-3+]

The proposal is that the user is to get from that particular sequence of 8
characters to the meaning:

 On Debian systems, the complete text of the GNU General Public License,
 can be found in /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-3.

via documentation such as /usr/share/common-licenses/README and/or
/etc/motd.

However, if the user knows to look in some documentation to read "[...]
means look in /usr/share/common-licenses", then we can equally assume that
we can just include in the exact same documentation "You will find common
license texts in /usr/share/common-licenses". Conversely, claiming that a
user might not find the documentation to know to look in /usr/share/common-
licenses is also to claim that they would not know to look in the
documentation to find what [...] means.

Either we believe:

* the users can find the docs and the brackets are unnecessary, or

* the users cannot find the docs and this entire proposal to omit the
boilerplate text is unacceptable.

I do not see a third option where the brackets convey additional
information.

>From my perspective, the brackets are only making work for people who will
have to rewrite parsers because the license short names are not the opaque
tokens originally given in copyright-format/1.0.*

Given they are unnecessary and actively harmful, let's not adopt this
syntax.

Bug#903165: On boot squid.service starts but doesn't work

2018-07-28 Thread Amos Jeffries
Ah, thank you. I have looked into that network-online.target and it
seems we do need to make it a requirement for Squid to be started. This
should be fixed in the next release.

Only module packages are called python{,3}-foo, while applications packages do
not have the binary prefix and we have plenty of python applications packages,
packages that include both applications and private modules or even packages
that include applications and public modules. For all of them, dependencies on
both Python runtimes is most likely still incorrect.

This is probably "Certainty: wild guess" material as I'm sure there are a
handful of legitimate use cases for depending on both Python 2 and Python 3,
but my feeling is that the vast majority of such dependencies would be
mistakes.

(yes, if this were python-translate-toolkit then it would have been caught,
but that package name would also be incorrect for the package)

cheers
Stuart

Right, exactly; would your package have triggered this error *if* the
requirement to match /^python([23]?)-/ was not present? :)

Bug#883950: Next steps on "[GPL-3+]" proposal

Along these lines, it might be helpful for people with an interest in
pushing this forward to convert some d/copyright files to their proposed
syntax, as concrete examples of what they're proposing. The ftp team
might also find it easier to approve or reject proposals when looking at
a concrete example?

Having redone its copyright file recently, I can suggest mutter as a
potential test case for this that is non-trivial, but not so verbose
as to be opaque: it has a mixture of various GPL-, LGPL- and BSD-based
licenses, including GPL-2+ with the Autoconf exception.

adwaita-icon-theme is a more pathological example with many Creative
Commons licenses, including at least one that is considered to be
non-Free (but is included in a triple-license with a Free option).

Bug#743948: hwinfo triggers "stack smashing" detector

2018-07-28 Thread Bernhard Übelacker
Hello,
tried to look if this issue could be closed.
Unfortunately can also not reproduce it in a Debian Jessie i386 VM
with 21.0-1 from snapshot.debian.org.

Following the mail from message #20 [1], it leads to a bug in [2] which
points in the attachement to the function read_klog.

Upstream got a patch in that function in [3] that points to "bnc #870383".
This could possibly be bugzilla.novell.com [4] to which I unfortunately
have no access.

Running 21.0-1 with valgrind points also to that function.

Both 21.3-1 and 21.6-1 do not show such a warning with valgrind.

Unfortunately 21.3-1 has already the change from [4] included but
is in message #15 said to still show a stack smashing.

wxpython4.0 isn't available in Jessie (and 4.0 was a complete rewrite,
so comparing with wxpython3.0 is rather meaningless).

The issue is that wxGLCanvas makes X11 calls which crash on Wayland. I
have been working on fixing this for a while, but it is taking some time.

The attached patch works, but the statistics for ca & cs are wrong
because the svn revision tracked now don't match the actual git hash.
And ca & cs translators will need to find the git hash
corresponding to the old svn revision to know where to look back to
update the translation. This have to be done only once, but before to
keep correct stats.

Are you running on Wayland by chance?

Seems like it.

   $ loginctl show-session 2 -p Type
   Type=wayland

I didn't even knew about it, this seems to be the default since I
never changed it.

This may take some time to fix. As a workaround, before using GLCanvas,
you can set:

GDK_BACKEND=x11

and it should work.

Bug#807553: Request for co-maintenance of alfred init script

2018-07-28 Thread Steffen Möller
Hello,

I am about to upload 2018.2 of alfred. Over here I just start alfred
manually after every boot. Admittedly, an init script would be nicer. I
have seen the one you referenced but I do not think batman-vis etc
should be started together with alfred. That should be another init
script. And, in an ideal world that should be part of the upstream
source tree. We (you) should hence plan to contribute that (these) back.

Please consider to help me out with an explicit patch for me to merge
against https://github.com/ffoh/debian-alfred. I happily grant commit
privileges.

Best,

Steffen
