Bug#847835: ITP: libchi-memoize-perl -- memoization implementation backed by CHI
Package: wnpp Owner: Christopher Hoskin Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org, debian-p...@lists.debian.org * Package name: libchi-memoize-perl Version : 0.07 Upstream Author : Jonathan Swartz * URL : https://metacpan.org/release/CHI-Memoize * License : Artistic or GPL-1+ Programming Lang: Perl Description : memoization implementation backed by CHI CHI::Memoize is an implementation of the memoization technique using CHI. Memoize caches the inputs and outputs of a function, if the function is called again with the same inputs, CHI::Memoize intervenes and provides the cached result. For slow functions, time is saved, at the expence of space. CHI::Memoize provides the same facility as Memoize|Memoize, but backed by CHI|CHI. This means, among other things, that you can: * specify expiration times (expires_in) and conditions (expire_if) * memoize to different backends, e.g. File, Memcached, DBI, or to multilevel caches * handle arbitrarily complex function arguments (via CHI key serialization) For a bit of history and motivation, see http://www.openswartz.com/2012/05/06/memoize-revisiting-a-twelve-year-old-api The package will be maintained under the umbrella of the Debian Perl Group.

Bug#847836: gnome-software: State change on epiphany.desktop from installed to available is not OK
Package: gnome-software Version: 3.22.1-1 Severity: normal Hi, When running gnome-software in a terminal, I'm seeing the following warning: Gs State change on epiphany.desktop from installed to available is not OK In the interface, when I'm searching for webkit, gnome-software shows me two entries instead of one, one of the them is incomplete (no screenshot, missing information,...) Removing the libgs_plugin_epiphany.so remove the warning, but the duplicate epiphany/Web entry stays in gnome-software. In the past, the epiphany.desktop was renamed to epiphany-browser.desktop, could it be the reason? Thank you for taking the time to come up with a solution. Still, the approach is wrong. dpkg-shlibdeps relies on dpkg -S to look for the owning package of a library. We know that dpkg -S works badly with symlinks and that has been why using symlinks for critical paths has never been supported nor the default. The /usr merge changes that. On a merged system, you get things like: $ dpkg -S `which false` dpkg-query: no path found matching pattern /usr/bin/false $ This confuses both human and automated users of dpkg -S including dpkg-shlibdeps. Once dpkg -S produces reasonable output for such paths, dpkg-shlibdeps will just work. Patching dpkg-shlibdeps papers over the bug, it doesn't fix it. Your patch is an improvement in clarity and pinpoints the cause, but that's about it. dpkg -S has users beyond dpkg-shlibdeps such as needrestart, massxpert, pcp, lxc, debian-handbook, etc (as a quick codesearch "dpkg .*-S" and manual inspection reveals). Papering over the issue in dpkg-shlibdeps and trying to fix all consumers does not look viable to me. Thus I am removing the patch tag in the sense that it doesn't solve the problem in a way suitable for stretch. > It's easier to push work upon others... to be honest the code (that I > wrote) in dpkg-dev that tries to identifiy the canonical version of the > library is also somewhat hackish. That's what you do, indeed. dpkg-shlibdeps is known to be very fragile. Last time Guillem touched it in fairly trivial ways, stuff broke. Your patch hasn't seen extensive testing yet and it changes the search order, which is a key aspect of its fragility (in particular due to multilib). Felipe has run some tests, but that's about it. Part of what resulted in a delay here is that nobody ran the tests and when I had time to run them, other changes in unstable (gnutls28 Build-Depends: libunbound-dev) broke my test cases. Testing it now, but I'm quite annoyed by the amount of breakage pushed on me. Helmut

It looks like the patch we put in mozjs24_24.2.0-4.debian.tar.xz is actually the patch for mozjs185. And in mozjs24_24.2.0-5.debian.tar.xz, there is no patch for fixing the 48-bit issue. Currently, I do not have a perfect solution which can fix the 48-bit issue for mozjs185 without changing the ABI. But is there anything I can do to help fixing the issue for mozjs24?

It does not work that way, this "compatibility" API is defined by the openssl build and should not be changed by a program. It only works for a few functions like SSL_load_error_strings() which point to the right functions. Those are enabled in the Debian build. The *main* problem is that structs like SSL are opaque and can't be dereferenced. There is no "compatibility" for that. Therefore the two options I mentioned are the valid candidates (a third might be to switch away from openssl to a different toolkit). > Michael Sebastian

I think the best would be to restrict the package to amd64/i386/x32 and add a preinst script that checks for sse2 support (see below). The only thing I wonder is whether there are legitimate cases wheer one should be able to install the package non-functional. Best, Gert #/bin/sh set -e grep sse2 /dev/cpuinfo 2>&1 >/dev/null if "x$?" = "x1" ]; then echo "Your CPU doesn't have SSE2 support, but this package requires" echo "it, aborting installation." exit 1 fi exit 0

With sbuild, I can do this using > --extra-package and --add-depends. reprotest with a pure schroot backend > can't do that kind of thing, so far as I can tell. from what I understood, reprotest is supposed to be distribution agnostic. This is also why they forked autopkgtest which supposedly makes many Debian-specific assumptions. I second your desire to have a tool that works well for development in Debian (and its derivatives) - for example by using sbuild or pbuilder instead. It is up to the reprotest maintainers whether such feature should be added to reprotest or whether we really need "yet another shell script". In the latter case, I'm open to patches against sbuild which could easily carry such an sbuild wrapper to automatically test reproducibility with sbuild on Debian (and derivatives). In either case, with my sbuild maintainer hat on, please file wishlist bugs against sbuild if its interface is not sufficient to run reproducibility tests with it. We have a big responsibility against our users to completely ensure the packages we ship are as safe. as possible This means that we have the duty to inspect all changes coming from new contributers. Anyone who wants anything ommore > complicated can cope with tasksel. Even someone who wants a server > can very likely cope with tasksel. Fair enough -- although I think it's quite good to include at least one not-a-desktop option because it helps define what we mean by desktop. People coming from windows are probably used to servers having a GUI, for instance, so its probably worth mentioning that we mean that a server won't have a GUI by default. Of course finding a few words to expres that in a way that's understandable to someone who's not sure what "Desktop" is supposed to mean is not so easy. BTW I've updated my menu hack -- it now is replacing the pkgsel.postinst so is a much better representation of how things should work. I tried to get the back button in tasksel to send you back to my simple_tasksel menu, but weirdly tasksel seems not to return 10, as it should, when you hit back. That seems to be because the db_go inside tasksel is not returning 30, as it should, which is very odd. Perhaps that's something to do with the fact that tasksel is running in the chroot, but it should still be talking to the same debconf front end, so I don't quite get haw that can go wrong -- the code that does all this has not been touched in years, and I guess it worked when Joey wrote it. Very odd. Anyway, because of that, I've disabled the back button for now. The menu is now: --> standard ("${DESKTOP}") desktop <-- standard server [text-only console & 'ssh' remote access] other use cases I get the feeling that the 'standard' is pretty redundant, but just 'desktop' and 'server' seems wrong too. I'm tempted to make the third option "All Other Routes" (or whatever the locale has on it's road signs to indicate that you're heading out of town) Have a play and tell me what you think -- should work with any recent media and adding: url=hands.com/d-i/d-i/bug/846002/preseed.cfg The code lurks here: http://git.hands.com/?p=hands-off.git;a%3Dshortlog;h%3Drefs/heads/new-unified3 Cheers, Phil. -- |)| Philip Hands [+44 (0)20 8530 9560] HANDS.COM Ltd. |-| http://www.hands.com/http://ftp.uk.debian.org/ |(| Hugo-Klemm-Strasse 34, 21075 Hamburg,GERMANY signature.asc Description: PGP signature

However, I also encountered serious problems deploying NFS (both client and server side) under jessie, and I would agree to team up and help do better for stretch. -- Regards, Feri

Where they problems with nfs-utils or the kernel or something else? Users have had kernel crashes[1] with NFS on jessie kernels and combined with systemd issues, I felt it didn't give a good impression. I also posted on the linux-fsdevel and linux-nfs mailing lists to see if anybody else can give feedback about the optimal version of this package to include in Debian before the freeze. Bug#847843: package latest upstream of XTrackCAD
Package: xtrkcad Version: 1:4.2.2-1.2 X-Debbugs-Cc:locutusofb...@debian.org Hi Daniel, by mistake I packaged and uploaded xtrackcad to Debian NEW last week. I missed that you already packaged it / maintain it. My upload got now rejected on my request on #debian-ftp IRC. However, I have worked on the packaging intensively and I suppose it would be of benefit to the XTrackCAD package if our packagings would be merged (e.g. my debian/copyright file is more complete, the orig tarball drops loads of unneeded files, the package is split in a arch-indep -common package and an arch-dep package, etc.). I attach my debian/ folder as is to this mail. Please let me know, if you want to do the merging or if I shall do that. Also, I'd be interested in becoming (a) an Uploader of xtrkcad or even better (b) move the package into a team maintenance context (e.g. debian-edu-pkg-team). So please let me know: o whether you pick the interesting parts from my debian/ folder? o or if I shall do that...? o if it is ok to have me as Uploader:? o or, even better, if it is ok to have the pkg team-maintained? Impressive work, and not only on the manpage side of things! I've just merged your branch, and made an upload from it, but for now I've excluded the work related to Fonts-*, as I can't change that during 0.18.2's lifetime obviously. From gbp-dch(1): --id-length=N Include N digits of the commit id in the changelog entry. Default is to not include any commit ids at all. So, that's already the default, right? It could be modified by the user's global gbp.conf, and it affects the changelog entries, so I set it back to this. > The following fragment is to help building the package with GBP when upstream > sources are not merged in "master": > > > overlay = True > export-dir = ../build-area/ > tarball-dir = ../ > > > Basically it instructs GBP to generate/use tarball and it might be useful for > "debian"-only master repository layout. I thinks that these should be set by the user's global gbp.conf. If he wants to use "export-dir = ../debian-build-area" or anything else, we shouldn't override this. Same here. Beeing subscribed to the kernel maintainers mailinglist I noticed Ferenc report and didn't want that it get lost and commited to the git repository. Only afterwards noticed some discrepancy between the current version in git, and the one in the archive beeing -9.2. On one side I saw that Ben imported up to -9 the history in git, but the NMU's were never imported. I can very well guess that any help in the maintenance would be welcome. Regards, Salvatore

Package: lxc Version: 1:2.0.6-1~bpo8+1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I am trying to create a jessie container on a powerpc machine, using jessie-backports lxc packages, but I got this error: % sudo -E lxc-create -n test -t debian -- -r jessie debootstrap is /usr/sbin/debootstrap Checking cache download in /var/cache/lxc/debian/rootfs-jessie-ppc ... Downloading debian minimal ... I: Retrieving Release I: Retrieving Release.gpg I: Checking Release signature I: Valid Release signature (key id 75DDC3C4A499F1A18CB5F3C8CBF8D6FD518E17E1) E: Invalid Release file, no entry for main/binary-ppc/Packages Failed to download the rootfs, aborting. Failed to download 'debian base' failed to install debian lxc-create: lxccontainer.c: create_run_template: 1290 container creation template for test failed lxc-create: tools/lxc_create.c: main: 318 Error creating container test The attached patch fixes this, correcting the architecture "name" in the URL path. lxc is now able to create the container but it fails to start. However that's another bug. Bug#847891: RM: paxrat [s390x] -- ANAIS
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal The paxrat binary package is implemented in golang and is built on s390x. However, the s390x port of golang requires newer CPUs than the baseline for the Debian port, and therefore golang should be removed from that architecture (bug #845003). Bug#847809: ITP: tcvt -- multicolumn virtual terminal

Is that still an issue? I highly doubt that a terminal application that doesn't support UTF8 is useful nowadays. Adrien
