Bug#826620: virtualbox: Extension_Pack-4.3.36-105129.vbox-extpack can't be installed

2016-06-07 Thread Thomas Schmidt
Package: virtualbox
Version: 5.0.20-dfsg-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

Installing it, it pretends to be 4.3.36.
Allthough Version: 5.0.20-dfsg-2 is mentioned here
I tried both extension packages. the one
Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.3.36-105129.vbox-extpack
and the other
virtualbox-5.0_5.0.20-106931~Debian~jessie_amd64.deb and tried
to insert in /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian jessie contrib

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
In the config-window -> file -> global config -> additional packages i tried to
add
Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.3.36-105129.vbox-extpack, but after
starting i get after iinserting the password:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
ExtPackManager
!WxtPackManager {3295e6ce-b051-47b2-9514-2c588bfe7554}

   * What was the outcome of this action?

I can't use USB what is needed strongly

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Oracle should stop the ridiculous need of any extension packages or
the debian package manager should stop presenting virtualbox in different
versions, none of it with the automatically installed extension packages.
A virtual machine without USB is not acceptable.

I don't want to comment on the Wheezy update. I need time with the
Jessie one, it's my fault; even if it's part of the number of fixes
need to be backported. Please see the Sid changelog[1].

> Is graphicsmagick no longer supported by debian?
As you noted above, Sid + Wheezy already updated; so it is supported.

Please run another dist-upgrade after the FTP servers have synced.

You are running a mix of MATE 1.12.x and 1.14.x packages which doesn't work.

How long does it take for the FTP servers to sync? The bug was filed 4
days ago, and the problem hasn't resolved since then. Where do I find
what state the FTP servers SHOULD have? packages.debian.org [1,2] still
lists the inconsistency mentioned here. Any pointer how this works or
how I can work-around this to speed it up would be great.

Thanks,

Mirko

Hi,

Sorry for the delay, I took a long break. I won't apply your patch,
46 hours to build this package is unreasonable, this means I won't be

Well, sure. LO does import uno; at places because that's what python3-uno is.

Some new module being named "uno" when PyUNO for OOo/LO exist since AGES
(separate first and integrated in OpenOffice.org proper in 1.1.x. Which was
2003

Asked upstream about whether it can be safe-guarded somehow, but TBH the
author of that uno-0.3.3 simply did it wrong by steping on OOo/LOs namespace.

In principle yes. However, technically, I am just a mere debian
user, no maintainer nor uploader, so I would need help anyway.

I have tried to become a maintainer, but that went unlucky
because first the mentor lacking time and then me being busy.

Replying from my private address, as for sure my company will not
pay extra for this ;-)

Yes, it's commonly known that this information can be found in the PTS tracker
[1]
and on release.debian.org [2]. As you can see there, atril migrates into testing
tomorrow. The mechanism is also explained in [3].

It might be advisable to read available documentation before using a development
release. This avoids common misconceptions and confusion.

You Can add unstable to your /etc/apt/sources.list and then add the proper entry
to your /etc/apt/preferences to pin unstable down to "99".

Bug#826609: gnome-calendar: does not start at all

The attached patch might help, but I also noticed that in the 3.21 series
gnome-calendar (and gnome-shell) has been migrated to use the
gsettings-desktop-schemas org.gnome.desktop.calendar schema instead.
I guess that makes it less interesting to gracefully handle missing
schema in favour of just adding a versioned dependency on
gsettings-desktop-schemas.

I guess we could just carry the patch until we update to 3.21.x/3.22
if someone verifies it actually works... Could you test rebuilding
the gnome-calendar package with the attached patch and see if it
solves your issue Andreas?

Bug#826625: ppp: Please switch to use libmd instead of embedded code

2016-06-07 Thread Guillem Jover
Source: ppp
Source-Version: 2.4.7-1+2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi!

Here's a patch switching the ppp package to use libmd instead of the
embedded implementations. I've removed them to make extra sure those
do not get used, and gone for updating several of the call sites and
macro usages, but if you prefer a more minimal patch I can provide
that instead.

Beware, I've only build tested it.

Thanks,
Guillem

Subject: [PATCH] Use libmd instead of embedded code

The libmd library is small, available on the base system of most Unixes,
it has no 4-clause BSD license terms, and avoids duplicating the same
code all over the place.

Bug#825112: (no subject)

2016-06-07 Thread Gordon Ball
Packaging has been done and can be found in collab-maint [1]
(git-buildpackage+pristine-tar format [2]). Current version is
0.3.3+dfsg. Builds for xenial/yakkety can be found in a PPA [3].

The packaging and test suite appear to work, but I've held off trying to
get it uploaded since there have been several minor versions in quick
succession recently (0.3.0 .. 0.3.3 in the last two weeks) and I was
waiting to see if it would settle.

Would you be willing to review and possibly sponsor?

I expect the command to show the same output for both files.

This also affects parsing XHTML files, much to my dismay.

(There was another bug that a © sign was extended into an
endless stream of © but I cannot reproduce it any more,
maybe that has gone away with the new libxml2…?)

Bug#769080: new Evince without title

2016-06-07 Thread Harald Dunkel
Which .fvwm2rc did you use?

If you google for "evince window manager decoration"you will find
tons of reports about gtk3 and client side decorations. I just wonder
why there is a problem just for evince. Others (e.g. meld) get the
regular window manager decorations as expected.

RedHat has a bug about this, too:

No, it did not. I had a look and pulled
https://github.com/ruby/ruby/commit/339e11a7f178312d937b7c95dd3115ce7236597a
to fix this one. I will include it too in the upload, just need to
check with the release managers first.

Should I commit the planned upload to the ruby2.1 git repository? I
notice there already is a debian/jessie branch there.

Bug#826628: Include the string "nicefrac" in the package description

2016-06-07 Thread Ingo Blechschmidt
Package: texlive-latex-extra
Version: 2016.20160520-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

The package texlive-latex-extra contains the LaTeX package nicefrac, but
does not advertise this fact in the package description. (Probably
because nicefrac is internally not a separate package, but comes bundled
with the package units.)

The attached patch adds nicefrac to the package description, thus
rendering texlive-latex-extra findable by a command like
apt-cache search nicefrac.

I thank you for your hard working in maintaining LaTeX on Debian!

Cheers,
Ingo

Hi,

This isn't a request to upload new versions to (old)stable. This is a
request to upload new versions to proposed-updates / stable-updates,
formerly known as "volatile". (ref https://wiki.debian.org/StableUpdates
and https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2011/03/msg00010.html)

> we'd need a minimal diff
> against the versions in wheezy/jessie (0.31 and 0.33), then we can
> talk to the release team about them accepting uploads.

I do not believe a "minimal diff" is necessary for -updates. This is not
a security backport. This is an update for software which requires
alignment to the real work to remain relevant and useful.

stable-updates carries software which requires updates over time to
remain relevant, such as spam filters, virus scanners, timezone updates,
web scrapers (i.e. youtube video downloaders) and similar things. We
don't backport functionality to old versions of ClamAV or SpamAssassin -
this would seem to be the same thing.

The sole purpose of libbusiness-creditcard-perl is to validate and
identify credit cards. Credit card issues are updating these rules and
issuing new credit cards with new number ranges without regard to our
release cycles. We should be able to update this module through -updates
like we do ClamAV, Spamassassin, timezones and so forth.

Thanks for all the hard work you do on the Perl team and for Debian!

Bug#826629: [powerpc] fb-modules package : add radeon driver

2016-06-07 Thread Mathieu Malaterre
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.5.5-1

This is an attempt to resolve the symptoms from #825840 (1). As
explain in this bug report, debian-installer is trying to use radeonfb
on PowerPC. However two things happen:

1. At startup Framebuffer is setup by Open Firmware (OFfb)
2. radeonfb currently does not support 'unloading' existing /dev/fb0

While it would make sense for radeonfb to take over Open Firmware, it
is currently not implemented (2). So an alternate solution would be to
use the 'radeon' driver instead.

I have been reading #782058 and #748398, and if I understand correctly
debian-installer does not *explicitly* load 'radeonfb', instead this
is done by `fb-modules-4.5.0-2-powerpc-di`. In which case I'd like to
request that `radeon` be also added to the list of module for PowerPC.

I am not clear if this will be enough but at least this could be a
step forward. Meanwhile I'll continue working on OFfb to get a
non-inverted display (this is a different issue).

Bug#800588: Failure due to aged mysql installation ?

2016-06-07 Thread Tim Ruehsen
After looking closer to the journalctl output, I saw
Jun 07 10:48:41 blitz-lx mysqld_safe[1877]: Could not open required defaults
file: /etc/mysql/debian.cnf
Jun 07 10:48:41 blitz-lx mysqld_safe[1877]: Fatal error in defaults handling.
Program aborted

# l /etc/mysql/debian.cnf
-rw--- 1 root root 317 May 11 2006 /etc/mysql/debian.cnf

Since this file has been automatically generated, I assume that at some time
the required permissions changed !? But on a pretty fresh Debian stable, the
file has the same perms. Maybe groups involved or capabilities missing
somewhere ?

Best Regards

2016-06-07 Thread W. Martin Borgert
I agree, that those modules would be very nice to have in
Debian.

(I wonder whether the modules are ready for public consumption,
because none of them is declared "stable":

mod_mam: beta
mod_csi: unknown
mod_throttle_presence: beta
mod_filter_chatstates: unknown
mod_http_upload: unknown

OTOH, the currently packaged modules aren't "stable" neither.)

Thank you. I agree that a bit more testing was needed, but had to
struggle a bit to find test code to verify the fix. In the process I
discovered that this fix was only fixing half the problem, and added a
patch for CVE-2015-7551 and the fiddle code as well. The new and better
tested code is attached. The fiddle patch from upstream even had a
testsuite fragment to verify its correctness. :)

Still OK to upload? Asking again as the changes became twice as
large. :)

Bug#826635: vpim: Section should be “ruby”

2016-06-07 Thread Ben Finney
Package: vpim
Version: 0.695-1.5
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

The section “libs” is for packages that install machine-code libraries
for programs to link with. Its packages almost never install
higher-level language libraries.

The package ‘vpim’ installs primarily a Ruby library, of interest
specifically to Ruby programmers. It should not be in the “libs”
section.

By the section descriptions, this package belongs in section “ruby”.

Please set the field “Section” appropriately on this package.

Since the package is already in Debian with a different section, you
will also need to submit a request to override the existing section
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/ch05.en.html#override-file>.

Then mark this bug report as blocked by that new one, and be sure not

Bug#826636: The screensaver fails to hide the second screen in dual screen configuration

After upgrade from Mate 1.12.0-1 -> 1.14.1-1 the screensaver fails to hide

un-lock the session by typing the password.

I am currently sitting in front of a MATE desktop with two displays on Debian
unstable and I cannot reproduce the problem. I just locked the screen and
both screens are properly covered, both with a blank screen as screensaver
as well as "Flying MATE". We therefore need more information to debug this.

Can you make a screenshot? You should be able to do that using a script like:

Could you please re-test with the free nouveau driver? This might be related to
the proprietary nVidia driver which cannot properly debug and support anyway
(the sources are with nVidia).

Did you press "q" or "Q" at least once before and cancelled it by
pressing either Ctrl-G or Escape?

And do you have dialogs in mini-buffers enabled?

>* What was the outcome of this action?
>
> Nothing at all

This smells a lot like https://bugs.debian.org/607118 which got fixed
after Jessie in 0.7.2-1. With one exception (and hence the
"unreproducible" tag):

If I can't quit Aptitude's TUI with "q" anymore in Jessie, quitting
via the menu doesn't work anymore for me either. So it might be a
different issue, though.

So a few more questions to maybe narrow down the issue:

* Does it happen always or occassionally? Or did it happen only once
  so far?

* Do you have a chance to reproduce it? If so, can you also try to
reproduce it in a Debian Unstable or Debian Testing environment? (A
  chroot or VM should suffice.)

We'd generally prefer a bit more testing than "should solve the
problem", although I agree that the patch looks sane enough as someone
who knows practically nothing about Ruby...

Please go ahead.

Thank you. I agree that a bit more testing was needed, but had to
struggle a bit to find test code to verify the fix. In the process I
discovered that this fix was only fixing half the problem, and added a
patch for CVE-2015-7551 and the fiddle code as well. The new and
better

tested code is attached. The fiddle patch from upstream even had a
testsuite fragment to verify its correctness. :)

Still OK to upload? Asking again as the changes became twice as
large. :)

Judging from the seecurity tracker, CVE-2015-7551 is fixed in any Ruby
versions that exist in unstable, so please go ahead.

I think that you think (:)) that stable-updates is a separate
queue/suite/... from stable-proposed-updates but that's not the case
in my understanding.

Quoting https://wiki.debian.org/StableUpdates :

Some packages from proposed-updates may also be made available via
the stable-updates mechanism. ... All packages from stable-updates
will be included in point releases.

Quoting https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2011/03/msg00010.html :

The suite [stable-updates] contains a subset of the packages
available via the "proposed-updates" suite which many users may
wish to be able to install without having to cherry-pick them or
wait for the next point release. Such updates will be uploaded to
"proposed-updates" as normal, and then optionally pushed to
  "stable-updates" by the SRMs.

Quoting adsb from the release team in his mail to #826563 from today:

... one never uploads to stable-updates - one uploads to stable,
via p-u, and we cherry-pick uploads from there sideways into
-updates at our discretion once they're ready.

Or in my own words (someone please correct me if I'm wrong):

There's only one upload queue, stable-proposed-updates(-new).
Uploading there is only allowed after approval from the release team.
When a package lands there, the release team has to manually accept
or reject it. Approved updates will end up in the next point release.

And, optionally, the release team can also copy the package to
stable-updates earlier in order to make it available before the next
point release.

In other words, there are no uploads to only stable-updates, just to
stable(-proposed-updates) which may or may not also be copied over to
stable-updates. That's why I'm talking about "uploading to stable".

Sure but the release team has to inspect the changes, that's why they
prefer minimal diffs with only the necessary changes, and also to
avoid accidental breakage.

Cf.
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/ch05.en.html#upload-stable

Changing anything else in the package that isn't important is
discouraged, because even trivial fixes can cause bugs later on.

> stable-updates carries software which requires updates over time to
> remain relevant, such as spam filters, virus scanners, timezone updates,
> web scrapers (i.e. youtube video downloaders) and similar things.

Yes, temporarily, before they all end up in the next point release as
well. Cf. the recent announcement:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-announce/2016/msg7.html

> We
> don't backport functionality to old versions of ClamAV or SpamAssassin -

That's true for some packages where backporting fixes is non-trivial,
and AFAIK noone is happy with that. In most cases the changes are
small and targetted.

I totally agree that an update of libbusiness-creditcard-perl in
jessie{,-updates} (wheezy is gone by now anyway) makes sense, I just
want to prepare a proposal for the release team that doesn't make
them cringe :) That's why I'd like to strip down
https://metacpan.org/diff/file?target=IVAN%2FBusiness-CreditCard-0.35%2F&source=IVAN%2FBusiness-CreditCard-0.33%2F
to the necessary part(s) before contacting them.

These are essential for basic functionality on mobile. So we should ship it.

This couldbe problematic because of the need for firmware in many
cases.  Having said that, the radeon driver is already used in some
other installer configurations, so maybe it will work.

Are there any problems with radeonfb other than #825840?  Because I
think that is not nearly serious enough to justify taking the risk of
changing to radeon.

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt
this package if you will have enough time and attention to work on
it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see

Bug#806945: bash: Please make bash build reproducibly

2016-06-07 Thread Ximin Luo
Control: tags -1 + patch

I've attached the full Debian patch to make bash 4.3-14 reproducible, that
includes Reiner's from above.

It also includes *fixing a bug in upstream bash*, which currently
does-not-appear-in-the-wild *only because* distros already happen to be working
around it. But upstream really should fix it - i.e. to fix the PGRP_PIPE check
in configure/configure.ac to account for Linux 4+.

I decided to just set PGRP_PIPE unconditionally in configure.ac and configure,
because I figure nobody will ever again use linux 0, 1 or 2 so it's not worth
the extra complexity (which only gives a minor performance gain anyway, as
opposed to having *incorrect behaviour*). Upstream is free to choose whichever
behaviour he wants - either this simpler version, or the more complex version
from my previous email quoted below. Both are correct, if I understand right,
and when either is applied to upstream, all distros (including Debian) can drop
our specific patches for PGRP_PIPE.

To re-iterate again, this does not solve the longer-term issue of "installing
config.h is bad".

Yes, and there are probably thousands of other .sty files that are not
mentioned. I cannot (and do not want) to add all of them to the description,
especially since the description is *auto*generated.

So this will remain a wontfix unless nicefrac becomes a separate package

So what happens to packages that need Qt and OpenGL on the arm
architectures?

Scott K was saying in that case it is best just not to build on the arm or
try to make it work with GLES. I had a look at the offending code which is
in a single file, but have no desire to change and maintain it. So perhaps
this is the fix here?

Reading #798408 seems to justify removing mudlet from arm.

Bug#790327: openturns: FTBFS on mipsel "package requires more than 1GB RAM; do not build on mips/mipsel. Stop."

2016-06-07 Thread Gustavo Prado Alkmim
Hello Denir.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't remember why it tooked 46 hours. I suppose it was due to my limited
hardware (CI20 board). I just have 1 GB of RAM, so I had to use a lot of
swap memory. Also, the 500GB of swap memory was some mispell. I suppose it
should be 5GB.

If you have a hardware with more than 1GB of RAM, it probably will not take
so long.

$ grep BUSYBOX= /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf
BUSYBOX=y

/etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf is not a conf-file, according to
dpkg, so it needs to be updated by other means.

Sure it is.

$ dpkg -S /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf
initramfs-tools-core: /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf

The old default of BUSYBOX=y (which then meant 'use busybox if
available') was changed to BUSYBOX=auto on upgrade to version 0.121.

But it's possible that this isn't always handled properly because an
upgrade to 0.121 or later also moves this conffile from initramfs-tools
to initramfs-tools-core.  That was also reported in #822671, for which
I still need to review the patch.  Is this perhaps the same bug?

Ben.

Bug#822783: eztrace-contrib: FTBFS with libc 2.23: 'memcpy' was not declared in this scope

I am not fully sure the bug is actually in on the libc sid. It looks

I think I've found where this is happening.
In file /usr/include/common_functions.h installed by nvidia-cuda-dev,
line 73, is the following:

extern __host__ __device__ __device_builtin__ __cudart_builtin__
   void* __cdecl memcpy(void*, const void*, size_t) __THROW;

Removing, or commenting out (as per the attached patch), this line fixes
the build of eztrace-contrib and theano.

Does this seem like a sane fix?

2016-06-07 Thread Alessandro De Zorzi
Hi Thomas,
sorry for BIG BIG delay, gnarwl seem dead and I am undecided if fix the
bugs or orphaned the package.

Anyway, phamm-ldap-vacation provide only a schema file
/etc/ldap/schema/phamm-vacation.schema
compatible with ISPEnv2.schema who removed from gnarwl source due
license ambiguity

phamm-ldap-vacation require slapd because not have sense install it
without a LDAP server

could be a good suggestions for gnarwl not Recommends
phamm-ldap-vacation but
Suggests it, anyway Recommends does not force install package, but using
apt-get the final effect is the same

Bug#806331: xz-utils: make the selected POSIX shell stable accross build environments

2016-06-07 Thread Ximin Luo
Control: tags -1 + patch upstream

I've attached a patch that makes m4/posix-shell.m4 try constant paths first.
This should fix the issue.

Upstream should also apply it - see more-stable-shell.patch.

This *should* be enough to make xz-utils completely reproduce (#806328 is now
fixed in another way), but I haven't yet tested this.

Possibly. But in my tests it now completely clobbers the file with the

Not these two lines, right? :-)

That sounds like a bug. So I'd be curious about where Q works, but q doesn't.

Ok, so I've disabled mini-buffers temporarily in my setup, but found
no occassion related to quitting aptitude where Q works, but q doesn't.

Bug#826646: Incorrect handling with initial_cwd variable

2016-06-07 Thread Серж ИвановЪ
Package: exim4
Priority: standard
Version: 4.80

Currently exim4 debian package handles CWD parameter not correctly.

This fix introduced security patch to store CWD into additional variable
named initial_cwd and it was applied in debian exim packages.
https://bugs.exim.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1805

Before this security fix (Bug 1805), upstream introduced some additional
changes to CWD handling code, this fix was not applied by debian package
maintainers.
https://github.com/Exim/exim/commit/3de973a29de6852d61ba9bf1845835d08ca5a5ab#diff-6e46fb11179cb7da978360d317a92ee0

Current behavior overrides CWD BEFORE any CWD handling could occur.

Uchdir("/") occurs before initial_cwd reads current working directory.

This bug applies to exim in stable and oldstable distribution.

This bug can be reproduced by adding this code "warn logwrite =
$initial_cwd" into acl_not_smtp_start config section

While sending email using plain sendmail, exim4 mail.log has to contain
initial working directory of calling process but instead it contains
already chrooted patch "/"

This is a serious bug, it breaks logic of many spam handling software and
should be fixed soon.

Bug#795192: potential ssd killer

2016-06-07 Thread dontreply
Most stuff has been said in the merged bugs already, but I'd like to point out
here that in addition to wasting CPU cycles this could be a potential SSD
killer. The system monitoring tool glances reports an average write to disk of
5.5 mb/s which amounts to ~20 gb/h or ~160 gb/day, assuming multiple instances
of mousepadare running for 8 hours per day.Hence I propose to increase the
severity level in order to draw more attentionto this issue and ultimately safe
users from ruining their SSDs.

Bug#826650: src:clitest: [PATCH] add a simple test suite

2016-06-07 Thread Antonio Terceiro
Package: src:clitest
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

I just came across clitest and I found it to be an amazing tool to write
tests with, but it is a shame that clitest itself is not being tested.
:-)

The attached patch does that by reusing the examples that come with
clitest itself, except the ones that hits the network. I can commit
directly to collab-maint if you prefer.

Hi

some more issues:

1) you put dependencies under build-dependencies, but they seem to be more
runtime dependencies

2) you fixed the gpg key issue, but now you have to *revoke* it and generate a
new one.
the key is compromised, I have it, and everybody that dgetted the package has
it, and it is
available on build machines such as DebOMatic and probably somewhere else too.

So, you should probably revoke it, and generate a new one
(you have it protected with passphrase, so if you think your passphrase is
strong enough
you can avoid this step, I didn't try to brute-force it)

3) not sure why have a .c file that runs a script...

4) # Necessary that the generated binary is in the directory where is the
"script.sh"
runescape: arch-dependent-file-in-usr-share usr/share/games/runescape/runescape

this isn't necessary, please remove and fix lintian, don't override it,
specially
because lintian seems right here.

5) CFLAGS = -g -Wall -O2 -fstack-protector-strong -Wformat
-Werror=format-security
CPPFLAGS = -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2
LDFLAGS = -fPIE -pie -Wl,-z,relro -Wl,-z,now
OBJECTS = runescape.o

no, please never override flags.
you can use ?= that means define if not already defined, but never override
external flags.

6)Please add some upstream metadata: https://wiki.debian.org/UpstreamMetadata

Bug#825916: installation-reports: Installing Debian with AMD/ATI Radeon graphics card does not go well

When i install Debian on computer with AMD/ATI Radeon graphics card it does no
go well.

After installation there is problem booting into the graphical desktop (GNOME)
because it needs firmware-linux-nonfree and other packages to it seems.

This is a big problem for a new user that wants to try Debian for the first
time and have no idea why the system cant start the graphical desktop and what
commands to type.

I would at least expect to be able to start the desktop into some low
resolution mode like in Windows where you can get into the desktop even though
you dont have the correct driver.

Then maybe the user is able to find information on the web/IRC to fix the
problem.

It might be helpful to specify which model of graphics card you have.

I think most cards do work in some basic mode without firmware. Some are
a bit weird and the driver in X doesn't really know ahead of time which
ones that is. I guess it could have better fallback handling in X if
the card fails with the first driver chosen.

It's ATI mobility radeon HD 5650 graphics 1 GB.

Bug#826653: CVE-2016-4437

Source: shiro
Severity: grave
Tags: security

The following was reported on oss-security. shiro doesn't seem to have
any rdeps in Debian.

Cheers,
Moritz

Severity: Important

Vendor:
The Apache Software Foundation

Versions Affected:
1.0.0-incubating - 1.2.4

Description:
A default cipher key is used for the "remember me" feature when not
explicitly configured. A request that included a specially crafted
request
parameter could be used to execute arbitrary code or access content
that
would otherwise be protected by a security constraint.

Mitigation:
Users should upgrade to 1.2.5 [1], ensure a secret cipher key is
configured [2], or disable the "remember me" feature. [3]

All binaries (.jars) are available in Maven Central already.

[...]

Maybe I'm going further off-topic here, but have to ask something...

While I think that in theory init-d-script is a good idea, I have
some practical concerns about it being the default skeleton for now.

I agree that it would feel like a step backwards to revert to
the old skeleton, but at the same time as more packages pick up the
new skeleton they run into issues and there's no maintainer

The only good thing I have to add about the old style is that atleast
it's well proven Personally I'd prefer if also init scripts where
something included in upstream collaboration, and wondering if that's
even possible with init-d-script (which I guess is only available in
Debian(-derivates))? There's also the question on where things should
live to avoid having all packages shipping an init script need to
depend on sysvinit. Also I doubt there will be any effort to convert
existing init scripts over to the new format so that it actually
gets the practical benefits of being able to fix many packages at once.
It's also risking becoming a situation where noone dares to touch the
"one place" (init-d-script itself) which affects all packages because
there's always something which breaks and given enough breakages people
will just move away from it. Having a good test-suite is as I see it
basically a requirement for doing these central backend code efforts,
cf. cdbs vs dh. People will quickly start relying on bug-compatibility
and implementation details when they need a solution to their problem
and there's noone around to quickly fix up the backend to work as
expected, see #825870 for a recent example of where I myself is guilty
of misleading someone into relying on implementation details
instead of using the (non-working) documented correct solution.

Each of these issues might be no big deal on their own but at the same
time it feels like there's bigger picture to be seen by someone thinking
about this system and how it would fit in both in Debians
multi-init-system world and how it would fit into upstream project
collaboration. That's not something that should be dealt with through
targeted NMUs in my opinion.

Until there's someone actively maintaining sysvinit (and init-d-script
in particular) I'd prefer we revert the skeleton back to the old version
for now. Opinions/Comments?

Regards,
Andreas Henriksson

OK indeed it does. (However there seem to be some doubled messages, and
the verbosity overfills the file a bit. probably due to the kernel parameters.)

>> 2. Offer it as a convenient service that one can just enable / disable.

MB> I guess this won't work. This debugging mechanism doesn't use service

Well it is too bad the user needs to deposit in that directory instead
of doing some command...

Anyways surely mentioning this method in
/usr/share/doc/systemd/README.Debian.gz "Debugging
boot/shutdown problems" would be valuable.

>> By the way, it would be great if boot logs could also be kept in such a

MB> You can use the journal, which contains that information.

Indeed it _seems_ nowadays everything one sees during boot (after the grub
countdown) does end up in journalctl and dmesg... so no more need for
bootlogd, etc.

Bug#826654: libreoffice-gtk3: to little distance for single scrolling by mouse wheel

2016-06-07 Thread Vladislav
Package: libreoffice-gtk3
Version: 1:5.1.4~rc1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Installing libreoffice-gtk3 instead of libreoffice-gtk.
Then I tried scrolling by mouse, but there was too little distance for single
scrolling (in comparison to libreoffice-gtk).

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I searched in the properties to increase the speed (distance) of scrolling with
mouse wheel, but don't found this.
The one I can do - it's to place caret to the text and press keys with arrows,
but it moves to sharply and if someshere are "page breaks" - it's to sharp.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
>From this appears a problem in quite long documents: if I scroll with mouse -
it's too long for time to scroll to needed place, if I scroll with scrollbar -
it scrolls to fast (I miss needed place).

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Scrolling with mouse on the same distance, like in libreoffice-gtk package.

Bug#793818: Pcmanfm crash sometimes at the end of file(s) copy

2016-06-07 Thread eingousef
Package: pcmanfm
Version: 1.2.4-1
Followup-For: Bug #793818

Apparently it also happens when a large set of files has been copied
with a different program. I have deleted the content of a directory
with pcmanfm, then went to the parent directory, let the pcmanfm
window open and opened a terminal from there (F4). I proceeded to copy
a lot of files (an arborescence of several GiB) in the directory I had
previously deleted the content of. Then I closed the terminal and went
back to the directory with pcmanfm, and pcmanfm crashed.
