Bug#787478: jessie-pu: package how-can-i-help/10

I'd like to update how-can-i-help with a patch that fixes grave bug
#787471.

It appears that all http request sent to UDD are now redirected through
https.
how-can-i-help was unable to handle that so the patch switched data
source

from http to https. Without this patch, how-can-i-help is left in an
unusable state.

debdiff attached.

Thanks for caring about fixing this bug in stable.

However, the debdiff that you attached is against the package in
unstable, which is currently the same as stable and does not contain the
bug fix. The expected workflow is that the bug is fixed in unstable and
we'd then look at fixing it in stable as well (in a package versioned
10+deb8u1 that was built and tested on stable).

Adam

I see the same symptoms on powerpc with 24.4+1-5, so I reopened the bug.

I have attached an updated version of notmuch-show.el, although I'm not
sure if the changes are relevant.

You mean, you have two packages, one for the SDL and one for the
Qt port? In any case, yes, you should merge them.

I'm happy to work on the package with you together if you like.

You will have to use ffmpeg or libav from the repositories. Embedded
libraries, especially something like ffmpeg/libav are a no-no
on Debian.

I have to leave for work now - Josch, do you where this is coming from ?
Maybe passing the --quiet option helps.

Bug#787488: screen image is randomly corrupted

2015-06-02 Thread Andrew Shadura
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.99.917-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm not sure this is the right package to file a bug against, so please
reassign if needed.

A recent update to something in the X stack causes random font
corruptions. Some of the characters display as blocks or random noise,
or change over time (first render normally, but after a window refresh
display incorrectly). I have also noticed window manager decorations
are sometimes corrupted too.

Honestly I do not know anybody who is using vagrant boxes without any
additional configuration.

All people I know messing around with them. So I think having minimal base and
allow users to build on top of it is a good thing.
I also have to agree that having base minimal box and multiply boxes with
different provisioners is having lots of sense; only problem with it may be
maintenance overhead but as Jan wrote this can be overcome with automated
build process.

Cheers,
Marcin, who is a heavy user of vagrant at work as well :-)

Hi,

Quoting: https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer.en.html#severities

serious
is a severe violation of Debian policy (roughly, it violates a
"must" or "required" directive), or, in the package maintainer's or
release manager's opinion, makes the package unsuitable for release.

In this instance, I fail to see which section of the Policy is being
violated.

Anyway, the bug is going to be resolved soon. The only difference
between the important and serious severities at the moment is whether or
not stellarium will be removed from testing and loose exposure to beta
testers.

Kind regards, Thibaut.

I've given it back with the gcc-4.9 b-d bumped and it has built fine.

We can start with the binNMUs soon.

Bug#785508: trading speed against correctness

2015-06-02 Thread Alexandre Detiste
I had to "sudo rm /usr/share/nano/python.nanorc" on several computer
to get work done...

I feel that reverting to 2.2 behaviour for now
(matching starting """ as a start of block only if it's not followed
directly by a new-line)
would be better than letting this as-is until a correct/optimal
solution is found.

So, GCC has put PL_magic_vtables into a read-only section,
hence trying to write to it deservedly produces a segfault.

Bug#787494: dolfin: FTBFS on arm64 and armel

2015-06-02 Thread Edmund Grimley Evans
Source: dolfin
Version: 1.5.0-3

See https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=dolfin&suite=sid

The relevant part of the log is, I think:

-- The Fortran compiler identification is unknown
...
-- Try OpenMP Fortran flag = [ ]
-- Performing Test OpenMP_FLAG_DETECTED
-- Performing Test OpenMP_FLAG_DETECTED - Failed
-- Try OpenMP Fortran flag = [-fopenmp]
-- Performing Test OpenMP_FLAG_DETECTED
CMake Error: CMAKE_Fortran_COMPILER not set, after EnableLanguage
CMake Error: Internal CMake error, TryCompile configure of cmake failed

A Fortran compiler is not getting installed by the Build-Depends on
arm64, though it is on some other architectures. The cause seems to be
this part of debian/control:

 libpetsc3.4.2-dev [!armel !arm64 !kfreebsd-amd64 !kfreebsd-i386 !hurd-i386],
 libslepc3.4.2-dev [!armel !arm64 !kfreebsd-amd64 !kfreebsd-i386 !hurd-i386],

It's explained in debian/changelog for 29 Aug 2014:

- Disable libpetsc3.4.2-dev and libslepc3.4.2-dev on amr64 since
they are not available on this architecture.

( s/amr/arm/; )

Those packages are now available on arm64, so debian/control should be
updated. Then dolfin should build on arm64.

The same is probably true for armel.

Thanks.

My attempts at poking the installer people have not resulted in
any useful feedback. Given that we're now early in the cycle
I'm willing to just go with something and wait for the installer
people to scream if I broke something, and then fix it.

Thanks for your historic reference, which I was not aware of.
Maybe dropping cfdisk-udeb is an ok solution...

Sounds like you're not totally opposed to it then. How about the following
plan:

I send a mail to debian-boot suggesting dropping cfdisk-udeb. If noone
says anything I'll follow up with uploading such a package.

If there are backlashes, we'll handle it by adding the udeb to ncursesw5
and reenabling cfdisk-udeb (now built against ncursesw5).

Does that sound ok to you?

Either ansible via its vagrant provisioning should install aptitude or via
a vagrant plugin (or just use shell provisioning in vagrant).
Besides the fact that its completely silly design that the apt module
depends on aptitude, the problem is upstream and it shouldn't be included
in any base images.

In Chef, we've been going naked for a long time now :)

Dear Maintainer,

I've a script to use Windows machines remotely. It worked fine on

The used command is:
rdesktop -d -k hu -r disk:becks=/home/ratki/becks -g

If I try to browse on "becks" disk the window is closed after some
clicks and I get the following message:
WARNING: rdp_out_unistr: iconv(2) fail, errno 84

It would be great to use it again as before upgrade.

I tried building systemd on a few different machines and couldn't get it
to fail on any of them. Then I looked at what packages were installed on
the buildds. On the machines it fails on, sysvinit-core is installed and
on mipsel-aql-01 (which passed the tests) systemd-sysv is installed.

I then found this:
https://bitbucket.org/Tarnyko/uselessd/issue/7/uselessd-7-test-strv-fails-on-slackware

Presumably systemd has never been installed within the mipsel-manda-01
buildd chroot and so no machine-id has ever been generated for it (which
the tests rely on).

Thanks,
James

Bug#787496: libdrm: FTBFS: unconditionally includes deprecated-on-Linux sysctl header

2015-06-02 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Source: libdrm
Version: 2.4.60-3
Severity: important
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

Hi,

your last kFreeBSD patch added an unconditional inclusion of
the header. Unfortunately, people on Linux don’t
like it and deprecated it to the point it’s a hard failure on
new architectures, such as x32.

I’m currently building libdrm with a local trivial patch to
use autoconf mechanisms to check for it.

@kFreeBSD porters: please *never* add this header unconditionally
any more but *always* use autoconf mechanisms to check whether it
is actually usable first (note it exists but has a hard #error).

Thanks!

Bug#787497: python-daemon: Unusable with new version of python-lockfile

2015-06-02 Thread Neil Williams
Package: python-daemon
Version: 1.5.5-1
Severity: important

This code no longer works due to changes in python-lockfile:

class PIDLockFile(LinkFileLock, object):
TypeError: Error when calling the metaclass bases
function() argument 1 must be code, not str

python-daemon needs to migrate to the new python-lockfile support and depend on
that version.

This is mentioned in the python-lockfile NEWS file which was uploaded
(by you) to unstable:
As of version 0.9, the Python API in ‘lockfile’ breaks backward
  compatibility with older versions.

I've had to downgrade python-lockfile to the version in testing to get a working
python-daemon operation.

Something isn't working on sparc, though (the sparc buildds apparently don't
build experimental ATM, which I didn't realise), but smetana seems to be down
and qemu-sparc32plus-static isn't working (bug #745935), so it may take a bit
extra time for me to investigate. Niels (upstream) says that his build using
GCC on Solaris works fine. Could be cosmic rays...

Could it be also some linker flag of the .so or liquidsoap? I tried to build
a minimal example but then the crash does not appear anymore.

Nevertheless, as I experimented with bigger align values it stopped crashing.
Following worked inside qemu VM:

2015-06-02 Thread Martey Dodoo
Despite reporting this bug, I wasn't initially subscribed to it, so I am just
catching up on the discussion.

According to the wiki ,
the Vagrant base boxes include "Vagrant specific enhancements". One of the
enhancements specifically mentioned is python-apt (which seems to have been
specifically installed so that Ansible will work correctly).

I agree that it would be better if Ansible's apt module did not rely on
aptitude, but it was incredibly confusing to try and figure what was happening:

- The previous unofficial Debian Vagrant base box I used included aptitude by
  default.
- The cloud providers that I use all include aptitude by default in their
  images.
- In order to successfully provision with Ansible's apt module and the official
Debian images, I needed to run apt-get update before installing aptitude.

Personally, I think that if third-party software like Chef or Puppet are
installed in the base box (with all of their dependencies), it also makes sense
to install aptitude so that upgrading packages with Ansible works properly.

Bug#786438: libmp3lame0: general protection error in libmp3lame.so.0.0.0

Hi Bernhard,

but that shouldn't make a difference, because the code already worked
correctly when you forced it to 16-bit boundaries by using
posix_memalign().

What happens if you re-arrange the definition of the vecfloat_union so
that _m128 is its first member, i.e.

typedef union {
__m128  _m128;
int32_t _i_32[4]; /* unions are initialized by its first member */
float   _float[4];
} vecfloat_union;

This is how these unions are used in most examples that I found. Also,
do you have any idea what this comment in there wants to tell us?

Thank you!

Thats unfortunate, we need to fix this and make them provisionerless and
get rid of the 'enhancement' approach. Vagrant plugins and inline
provisioning
is the right way to do it (as demonstrated by Chef Software Inc.).

You could even drop the _i_32[] member, it is not used in the code.
Maybe the compiler recognized that and somehow optimized that out,
messing the alignment thereby?

Hi,

Thanks for the report. I can confirm the problem using just perl 5.22
and not GCC 5.

However as this is only reproducible on experimental, I'm downgrading
the severity of this bug report for now.

NMU debdiff attatched.
Unfortunately it failed to build on arm64 and this has revealed a

This is because some source packages (src:epylog) put python:any into their
Build-Depends-Indep.

In dose3, I apparently have put some code that warns about this with the
following comment:

In contrast to B-D and B-C, B-D-I and B-C-I requirements must be satisfied
by native packages. [...] B-D-I and B-C-I can not contain :any or :native
   modifiers.

Unfortunately, past-me from 2012 did not add there where this restriction comes
from. I cannot find the restriction that B-D-I and B-C-I must be satisfied by
native packages anywhere in policy either. Is this even valid?

It should be enough to pass --quiet to the dose3 invocation.

Thanks!

Bug#787457: Needs fixing

2015-06-02 Thread Thomas Hood
Experiment. I create a bogus rc symlink for resolvconf.

ln -s ../init.d/resolvconf /etc/rc2.d/S01resolvconf

Then I run update-rc.d with an unrelated initscript.

update-rc.d alsa-utils defaults

After this, the resolvconf symlink in rc2.d is still present but has been
renumbered to S11resolvconf! Bad.

I have added code to the postinst to do "update-rc.d resolvconf remove" if
there are any S links for resolvconf in rc[1-5].

Bug#787505: libnss3: NSS 3.19.1 breaks icedove IMAPS to server with DH 786 temp key

2015-06-02 Thread Ben Caradoc-Davies
Package: libnss3
Version: 2:3.19-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

since upgrade to NSS 3.19.1, icedove refuses to connect to an IMAPS server with
a "Server Temp Key: DH, 768 bits". Workaround is to downgrade to NSS 3.19 or
change icedove connection to unencrypted IMAP.

To protect against logjam attacks, NSS 3.19.1 refuses to connect to servers
with a finite field algorithm key strength less than 1023 bits:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-
US/docs/Mozilla/Projects/NSS/NSS_3.19.1_release_notes

This behaviour breaks icedove on Debian clients that need to connect to IMAPS
servers with weak server temp keys. Note that these are clients which have no
control over configuration of remote servers. Workaround is to downgrade to NSS
3.19 or change icedove connection to unencrypted IMAP.

Kind regards,
Ben.

Upgrade that caused the failure:

Bug#787508: sslh: fails to purge - command in postrm not found:

2015-06-02 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: sslh
Version: 1.17-1
Severity: important
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to purge due
to a command not found. According to policy 7.2 you cannot rely on the
depends being available during purge, only the essential packages are
available for sure.

Filing this as important because a.) it's a clear policy violation (to
not clean up at purge) b.) having a piuparts clean archive is a release
goal since lenny and c.) this package being piuparts buggy blocks
packages depending on it from being tested by piuparts (and thus
possibly the detection of more severe problems).

I can see that gvfs 1.24 just entered testing but in jessie it's still
1.22. So that patch seems to be relevant in regard to jessie which
probably will be the stable release for around 2 years. Unless a package
with similar functionality goes into jessie-backports my response seems
to still apply.

I just wanted to let people with affected systems know there is a quick
workaround.

I left modified source and recompiled gvfsd-obexftp on my server. The
archive is singed (http://wodny.org/download/gvfs/).

Bug#787509: gdk-pixbuf: insufficient alignment of pixdata causes FTBFS on arm64

2015-06-02 Thread Edmund Grimley Evans
Source: gdk-pixbuf
Version: 2.31.4-2

netsurf failed to build on arm64:

See https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=netsurf&suite=sid

The root of the problem seems to be here:

https://sources.debian.net/src/gdk-pixbuf/2.31.4-2/gdk-pixbuf/gdk-pixdata.c/

In line 768 you need alignment 8 instead of 4.
(I don't know about line 764. You could change that as well, perhaps.)

However, is there a neater, more portable way of making this stuff work?

With _m128 being the first line the crash still happens with
or without the attribute.

> Also, do you have any idea what this comment in there wants to tell us?

I guess this is a hint for this initialization:
-const vecfloat_union fabs_mask = {{ 0x7FFF, 0x7FFF, 0x7FFF,
0x7FFF }};

This could be probably more explicit (but less portable)
by doing something like this:
+const vecfloat_union fabs_mask = { ._i_32 = { 0x7FFF, 0x7FFF,
0x7FFF, 0x7FFF } };

With this, reordering the members of the union does not affect audio output.

> You could even drop the _i_32[] member, it is not used in the code.
> Maybe the compiler recognized that and somehow optimized that out,
> messing the alignment thereby?

Removing _i_32 seems to initialize the union differently and therefore
the result is different.
With _i_32 removed (and the alignment 0x20) audio is not working anymore.

Kind regards,
Bernhard

I see no sense in installing aptitude to upgrade packages when apt-get is
already there. I just had a quick look into ansible apt module and have to say
it's a bit messy. It's utilising apt-get for dist-upgrade and aptitude for
full-upgrade. Probably this should be pointed out to ansible devs as suboptimal
solution.

Bug#787447: tshark shows 'Segmentation fault' on exit

2015-06-02 Thread Joao S Veiga

Please install wireshark-dbg and run "ulimit -c unlimited" before
reproducing the issue. This will generate a core file which you can
analyze with gdb.
Please attach the stack trace to see what is crashing.

I ran a quick test on my computer and tshark ran fine.

Thank you Balint, it seems it is liblua;

the back trace shows this:

Me too. And there isn't even anything wrong with that code. We just need
to find a way to give the compiler a hint with the clue bat.

Isn't 0x7FFF == nan in float? Maybe we could get rid of the int type
and initialize the union through the float members with 0./0.? But maybe
this is just a stupid idea.

I don't know which bug number this was really intended for, but the one
that Michael Gilbert accidentally closed is a release.d.o p-u request

Bug#787515: tortoisehg: uninstallable in sid

2015-06-02 Thread Adam D. Barratt

Package: tortoisehg
Version: 3.1.1-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

tortoisehg depends on "mercurial (>= 3.0~), mercurial (<< 3.2~)", but
3.4 has been in unstable for a month now, rendering tortoisehg
uninstallable.

This is the last package blocking the migration of mercurial 3.4 to
testing so I may temporarily remove it until it's fixed to be compatible
with 3.4

I got some untested and not yet reviewed usb3 resume race fixes from Zhuang Jin
Can
If you can try them out and see if they help it would be great.
They are sitting in a topic branch called "xhci_usb3_pm_fixes" in my tree:
(5 extra patches on top of current usb-linus)

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mnyman/xhci.git xhci_usb3_pm_fixes

If not, then the we need to change xhci resume code so that we resume the
roothubs as default
except if we are runtime suspended and woken up just to be (system) suspended.

Thanks, looks buggy to me too. Interestingly decoding the output with
MIME-Q seems to have the same bug so it roundtrips correctly.

You might want to run your test suite on the MIME-EncWords implementation too,
available in the libmime-encwords-perl package. It seems to get at least this
one right.

Bug#787264: BUG that need to be fixed in Jessie package - afecting BIND9 CHROOT

This is a serious bug.

Since I was running Bind9 in a CHROOT environment in Wheezy, after upgrade
to Jessie Bind just run out of that CHROOT, with wrong config files (and so
on).

The patch worked fine but after edit the 'bind9.service' file I needed to
run 'systemctl daemon-reload', then 'service bind9 restart'.

Thanks Felix for the solution.

Thanks for debugging this and ... argh!

This has already been patched for ages, but somehow I managed to commit
absolute nonsense in
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-torrus/pkg-torrus.git/commit/?id=bd8a1baa721d11be8059723ba8d33083486f4baa
which is basically to the upstream content. No idea how this happened.

I'm preparing 2.08-2 with a revert right now. I will probably try to get
the fix into 8.2 as well.

Bernhard

As Joey says, one doesn't need it if one is doing exactly what was
envisioned with the images (i.e. dd-ing straight to the device) but
it is very clear by now that other valid use cases exist.

It is of course possible to work round this lack with the hd-media
files, but there's definitely an advantage to knowing that one is using
the right kernel/initrd, as one does if using the files from within the
image itself.

For that to work those files must include iso-scan.

Cheers, Phil.

Wwwoffle has been removed from stable some time ago already,

Please remove me as the maintainer; currently that only generates
a steady stream of spam via wwwof...@packages.debian.org :-(

If I should do this differently please inform me, but I can't really
discover how this particular situation should be handled (i.e. package

One more serious GTK+3 bug [1] has been fixed upstream in version 3.14.8.

Can you please update GTK+3 in Jessie? The latest upstream release of 3.14.x
branch is currently 3.14.13. There are a lot of bugfixes ported from 3.16 and
git master
into that branch.

I know this counts as the new upstream release - but that's a bugfix-only
release,
it should not introduce any regressions.

2015-06-02 Thread Benoît Tonnerre
Hi,

Thanks for your answer.

During the Debian jessie installation, I had a problem at grub step.
The os-prober part was stuck : grub was at 66 % (os-prober tried to browse
all the VM on LVM partitions)
After more than 15 minutes, os-prober seems to be stuck, so I rebooted the
server.
I had to boot in rescue mode, then, reinstalled grub and modified it to add
"GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true".
It seems it solved the problem, I was able to boot the server.

Maybe there are some missing things in my Debian installation ?

Do you want me to fill an other bug report (concerning the installation
problem ?)

I have not this problem with Debian Wheezy installation.

Thanks for your time and for your help.

Bug#787521: initramfs-tools: wrong order of md and dm raid modules in initrd,

2015-06-02 Thread jo
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.120
Severity: important

After the update from wheezy to jessie this system didn't boot anymore; it
stuck with the (initramfs) prompt. The situation was very similar to other
bugs, whose solution was addressed with bug #678696:

- /dev/disk/by-uuid/ wasn't created
- Error message "Gave up waiting for the root device"
- Error message ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/-xy- does not exist
- (initramfs) prompt

I found out I could arrive at a mountable md0 with a rescue system using
modules dm_mod and md_mod (etc.). (Yes; there's an md raid on top of a dm raid.
Don't ask me; the system is inherited.) The order was decisive here; if I
loaded md raid before dm raid, I arrived at unusable devices md126 and md127,
which I couldn't mount and which didn't have a blkid.
So I tried the same inside initrd, where also the devices md126 and md127
showed up, and after rmmodding all dm-raid and md-raid modules, insmodding
dm_mirror, doing a dmraid -ay and insmodding raid1, I arrived at usable
/dev/disk/by-uuid/- entries and md0-array and could boot the system.

I think this constellation hasn't been adressed by the event based block device
handling patch referenced in bug #678696.

Putting PREREQ=dmsetup in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/mdadm and doing an
update-initramfs didn't help.

This is initramfs-tools 0.120 with jessie and wasn't a problem with
initramfs-tools 0.109.1 under wheezy as far as I can reconstruct.

Best regards, jo

Bug#787298: providing base vagrant boxes that both minimal and featureful

In my experience, having a minimal image helps you with figuring out
what are the actual dependencies of your application and making sure it
will work on whatever environment it is deployed to.

I agree, but I also agree that any provisioning should work out of the
box with the base box you provide. That said, it is possible to automate
the installation of all provisioners mentioned in /vagrant/Vagrantfile
when you bring the box up.

For example I have the following i my ~/.vagrant.d/Vagrantfile (which is
applied by Vagrant to every box I bring up):

8<8<8<-
Vagrant.configure(2) do |config|
  config.vm.provision :shell do |shell|
shell.path = '/home/terceiro/bin/vm-bootstrap'
shell.keep_color = true
  end
end

# vim: ft=ruby
8<8<8<-

that vm-bootstrap script sets up the box to use my local APT cache, and
installs vim, bash-completion and other goodies.

Last time I checked, every .box can also include a Vagrantfile which
will also be applied when it is brought up, before the
application-specific Vagrantfile. That could easily parse
/vagrant/Vagrantfile, figure out the provisioners used, and install them
with apt-get on the fly.

It could also install aptitude if that is needed for ansible (however
requiring aptitude when apt is already there is indeed odd IMO).

So I think we could have a base image that is both minimal and works out
of the box with whatever provisioner (provided it is available in the
archive, I guess).

Bug#787505: libnss3: NSS 3.19.1 breaks icedove IMAPS to server with DH 786 temp key

This sounds like a feature, not a bug, because it means that users are
now aware that their "secure" imap connections are probably not what
they expect.

Are these IMAP servers in the wild? Could you point me to them?

Bug#787520: upgrade-reports: network shaky

2015-06-02 Thread Lothar
Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Since upgrading from Wheezy to Jessie, the network has become unstable. This
happens not always, but often. The network manager shows it's connected, but
the connection doesn't work (web pages don't load etc.) and ping 8.8.8.8 says
"destination host unreachable". The problem is overcome by a "sudo dhclient
wlan0" (or eth0, as the case may be). However, without network access it may be
hard for many users to find out that this works, so I consider this a rather
serious bug.

Thank you.

Bug#787522: libfile-monitor-perl: list of features in package description probably should have one item split in two

2015-06-02 Thread Beatrice Torracca
Package: libfile-monitor-perl
Severity: minor

Hi!

The current package description lists a number of features in an
organized list.

The last item in the list reads:

«
* Notify when a monitored file is deleted Notify when files are added or
removed from a directory
»

Seeing how the second "Notify" starts with a capital letter, I imagine
that it should be split into 2 items like so:

«
 * Notify when a monitored file is deleted
 * Notify when files are added or removed from a directory
»

thanks,

beatrice
