Hello ael,

thank you for spending your time helping to make Debian better with this
bug report.

Which backend from sane-backends are you using? Sane-epson2?
Whats your version of sane-backends?

Please can you test the following versions:

 - xsane 0.999-1 (unstable)
 - sane-backends 1.0.24-9 (unstable)
 - sane-backends 1.0.25+git20150102-1 (experimental)

Bug#776528: BackendException: ssh connection to user@hostname:22 failed: No authentication methods available

weird. both of the above work fine for me here, but i'm on the stable version
of paramiko which is much older. (similar setup to yours, password-less
rsa key, extra known_hosts file)

>So it seems like 0.7 stopped supporting multiple options inside
>the --ssh-options option, which the manpage claims is supported:

i really don't think that's it, as the commandline parsing code hasn't
changed in any relevant fashion between 0.6.24 and 0.7. i just diffed it and
it's almost exclusively whitespace-only changes.

three things to consider:

first, paramiko (the default ssh backend) doesn't use anything
from --ssh-options except "-i idfile" or "-oIdentityFile=idfile".
so handing it a userknownhost directive doesn't do anything.

is the --ssh-options line you submitted *exactly* what fails? if not,
please send me that. i suspect that the parsing of the identityfile bit
might stumble over your actual data, as the given --ssh-options line works
fine here.

does it work with two separate --ssh-options (knowing that the knownhostsfile
bit has no effect)? does the order of the --ssh-options make any difference?

second, could you please rerun your failing command with -v9 and send me
the parts of the output that are tagged "ssh:"?

third, does changing the access protocol to sftp:// change anything?
(i don't suspect so, but it might be worth a try...)

regards
az

Bug#770811: openvpn: openVPN tmp-dir missing

2015-01-31 Thread Polotnyanko Nikita Sergeevich
Hi,

This is not a bug, when using chroot you can't access anything outside
of chroot directory, so if you want to use chroot in openvpn, for
example, "chroot /etc/openvpn" in your config file, then you need to
create tmp directory in openvpn chroot directory (/etc/openvpn/tmp) and
mount /tmp directory in /etc/openvpn/tmp:

mkdir /etc/openvpn/tmp
mount --bind /tmp /etc/openvpn/tmp

And write this changes in your /etc/fstab:
echo "/tmp /etc/openvpn/tmp none bind" >> /etc/fstab

Bug#776658: lintian: Memory consumption of harness and html_reports

It does try to share a lot of the inner data structures - there are
indeed still some deficiencies to it. I really wish one could do things
like string interning in perl.

That is definitely worth consideration - thanks for the suggestion. It
would imply an immense rewrite of html_reports. While it is certainly
long overdue, it is not something I suspect I will have time (or mental
capacity) to do on my own.

I have started a different approach (see [1] for WIP code). It is
mostly a parallel track to your idea, so they can certainly co-exist.

The goal of this approach is to:

 * Split harness into a "simple" coordinator
 * Remove the Lab as a (primary) data store (it is too fragile)
 * Harness state as datastore

The details of my design decisions are:

Harness - simple coordinator

In my opinion, a lot of the (to quote private/TODO) "yuckness" of
harness happens because we want very well determined failure handling,
but never wrote harness with a structure that makes that trivial.
Notably, we do not want harness to crash (without logging it first) and
especially not while working on the Lab (see next section).

By moving logic to of harness, this rewrite will become easier as there
is less to juggle around with. Further, by moving it out of harness
(and into an other process), we can ensure that any memory consumption
caused by this task will definitely be freed when the child process
terminates. I have previously tried to make harness free some of its
memory with no luck.

Removing the Lab as data store
==

For me, there are several advantages in this. Firstly, the lab is very
fragile - if anything crashes (or is interrupted) while updating the
lab, the metadata is often trivially out of sync and the lab is (partly)
corrupted[0]. The end result is often that lintian/harness croaks on
importing stuff until someone manually runs a $lab->repair. However,
this does not fix all types of corruptions (see the FIXME in
L::Lab->repair), so... /o\

By removing the Lab as a data store, we can use a simpler and more
robust data store (more on that in the next section) AND use throw away
labs. I had a talk with DSA (I think weasel) about getting a tmpfs disk
on another machine for the heavy lifting. This implies that we *can* in
fact throw away the lab after every run.

Harness state as datastore
==

I introduced a "harness state cache" a couple of versions back to track
which packages needed to be reprocessed, when we uploaded a new version
of lintian. This (YAML) file can be trivially extended to contain all
the necessary information required by harness and html_reports to
replace the Lab as a data store. It already features several advantages
to the Lab, namely:

 * Atomic updates of the content (see save_state_cache in harness)
 * Automatically recreated from scratch if it "vanishes".
 * We can add/remove information to/from without having to update the
   lab metadata.

Certainly, this file can (also?) be replaced by an SQL(-lite) database.
If someone is willing to do or help me with the SQL(-lite) part, I am
definitely open for it.

Shouldn't we bump the severity of #764298 which has a clear solution?

Bug#755722: systemd must sync systemclock to RTC on shutdown

2015-01-31 Thread Stefan Fritsch
severity 755722 serious
retitle 755722 systemd must sync systemclock to RTC on shutdown
thanks

Systemd must make sure that the system clock does not go backwards,
which causes all kinds of problems, with file systems and with other
software. To achieve that, systemd has to sync the system time to RTC
on shutdown. Upstream's argument that the system time may not be more
accurate is completely unrelated to this issue.

I've done the following:

- initial implementation using the feeditems array

- requested to join collab-qa on alioth so I can push this, otherwise
somebody else can apply it

- sent an RT request (#5713) to DSA to install the vpim package on ullmann

- updated the wiki to include the extra dependency

Please let me know if any other action is needed to get this deployed.

There are other potential improvements but they can be made later:

- setting the priority field of the VTODO to a higher value for RC bugs,
I think the prioritization logic should be somewhere else in the UDD
code and the iCalendar code should only translate the UDD priority value
into the format for iCalendar (1=High, etc). Is anything like this
already available or on the roadmap?

- setting the email of the bug reporter as task creator, currently it
just uses debian-qa as the creator for all tasks

- setting an ID on each task based on the Debian bug ID or some other
unique ID (Lightning appears to consume the VTODO feed without any ID
being present)

- setting the created and modified dates where applicable

Jörg, the problem is, when you email to 585...@bugs.debian.org and do not

get any email.

At least - as far as I can tell - I did not get any email so I was taken
by surprise, by your closing of this bug.

If indeed the email delivery didn't happen, as I am assuming, then you
might want to doublecheck on the other errors you recently closed that had
"tags +moreinfo". That is whether effectively anybody got any email from
you.

I'll test, and report back, once I have the time.

Many, many thanks for taking care of xsane!

Hi Ritesh,

I think you made a mistake: you've now merged both changes (the initial
ones that Michael Biebl objected to) and the new ones. The original
changes (dh-systemd dep, service file, calling systemctl from init
script, moving debhelper around in postinst, dh_systemd_* in rules)
should go away, and only the new changes (init script LSB headers,
systemd drop in, install drop-in in debian/rules) should be kept. The
debdiff you've attached includes both changes at the same time, and
while that probably still works, it doesn't remove the objections
Michael had to the initial ones.

The diff I sent you earlier this week was against the version currently
in testing/unstable, not against the version you had in git.

Christian

Bug#776697: linux-image-3.16.0-4-686-pae: Boot randomly stucks at a stage

2015-01-31 Thread Jérôme Deuchnord
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.16.7-ckt2-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Dear Maintainer,

I'm having some trouble with this version of the kernel that makes my system
fail to boot. It looks like that it stucks on a stage, so that the boot process
cannot continue. I could not make any video, but here is a photo I toke:
http://imgur.com/mWXG9C0
The only solution I found for the moment is to use a previous version of the
kernel, which works correctly.

Sorry for my bad English, I'm a French user... I stay available if you need
more information.

Yours sincerely,
Jérôme Deuchnord

Bug#776698: mate-desktop-environment: requires gvfs-backends

2015-01-31 Thread Philipp Pilhofer
Package: mate-desktop-environment
Version: 1.8.0+7
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

I did a vanilla install of jessie, with MATE as the only DE.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

In caja, on the left clicking on "Browse network".

   * What was the outcome of this action?

I got a popup error: Could not display "network:///". Caja cannot handle
"network locations"

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Browsing network locations ...

With help of the MATE forums, I was able to fix it by installing gvfs-backends
and reboot. This should be a standard requirement of m-d-e. It wasn't even
installed when adding mate-user-share ...

This is a vast improvement, thanks for persisting with it. One point: your

I actually though that this had been discussed before, but I couldn't
find a previous discussion. The instance I was recalling was a about
sourcing stuff from /etc/profile and /etc/profile.d/ itself (see below).

The bash_completions thing is only there because bash doesn't have sane
autoloadable functions. The apache directories I find rediculously
messy.

The apt-usecase seems legit.

With respect to shells, I usually find that applications, that need to
inject code into a user's shell to be by and large mis-designed.

Something that *might* make sense is to source stuff from /etc/profile
and “/etc/profile.d/” in POSIX-mode. See ¹, a mail about that from 2011.
Nobody cared enough to reply; which I guess that tells you something
about the urgency of the situation. ;-)

But like the mails says, even if we did that, it's hard to decide what
because it's not used for portable purposes alone. The bash completion
thing is sourced from there, which other POSIX shells will have a major
problem with.

I think the situation is messy and I'd like to not get my hands dirty.
This is, however, my personal opinion and does by no means reflect the
opinion of the rest of Debian's zsh packaging team. :-)

> Another nice example which would be much easier that way is the

Grml's zshrc could replace the existing configuration. It has everything
Debian's zshrc has and just piles up on that.

Yeah, those are used for completely different purposes, though. And
adding them comes at virtually no additional costs.

(*puts on grml-zshrc hat*) As I recall, with grml's zsh configuration,
we had a ton of stuff in /etc/zsh/... and for some reason (I'm not
familiar with any particulars in the developer reference), we couldn't
just remove them in a maintainer script.

It was a huge pain in the ass and for quite a while we had code in the
setup that checked for the existence of old files in those directories,
asking the user to consider removing them. (*puts off hat again*)

To my understanding, stuff in /etc is considered a configuration file,
that might have been changed or added by the user and can therefore not
be removed by packages. I could see using checksums to gauge whether or
not a file is still in mint condition. I don't know if that is being
done by dpkg these days.

> The common argument against .d directories with configuration snippets
> so far seemed performance issues to me.

My main issue with it is littering.

Performance is a true concern (my personal config file is split up into
multiple files and it not even funny - I'm putting off merging it into
one file again for a while now), though. Albeit not my primary one.

Regards, Frank

I seem to remember that the files are indeed looked up under
./debian-installer/, which would mean Andi's modifications are
needed.

Right now, I am setting up a fresh install, so let's see what we can
make of all your work. FTR, I have TFTPROOT set to /srv/tftp in
di-netboot-assistant.conf, and I use atftpd from xinetd like so (as
user nobody):

  in.tftpd --tftpd-timeout 300 --retry-timeout 5 --mcast-port 1758 \
--mcast-addr 239.239.239.0-255 --mcast-ttl 1 --maxthread 100
--verbose=5 /srv/tftp

and I have it all configured so that I don't have to be root (cf.
README file). Also, I don't do anything fancy in the DHCP config
(cf. #776670), except serving next-server and
filename=debian-installer/pxelinux.0

After applying Jonas' five patches and running install, I am left
with

  .

Unfortunately, PXE does not work. Here are the files requested from
the TFTP server:

  atftpd[12256]: Serving debian-installer/pxelinux.0 to 192.168.17.133:43759

  atftpd[12256]: Serving debian-installer//ldlinux.c32 to 192.168.17.133:49157

So yes, ldlinux.c32 is looked up under debian-installer/ldlinux.c32.

So now, let's change the /bin/cp destination, as suggested by Andi.
Now the install yields:

.

The TFTP server now sees the following requests:

  atftpd[13592]: Serving debian-installer/pxelinux.cfg/default to

and the menu is shown and installation works!

So to this point, I have to say that Andi's modification seems
necessary.

> * I sent some minor improvement patches in
> https://bugs.debian.org/759424#67 and

Both of these patches make sense to have included and work just
fine, mainly because Andi's original patch doesn't apply anymore
(Jonas included some changes).

Attached is the combined patch against di-n-a which I tested. The
di-sources.list patch (the last one) applies fine

So my verdict: I think Jonas patches fix a good chunk of the
problems, but Andi's modification is required. His other patches
also make sense and can/should be included, even for a jessie
release.

And yes, I think it would be better to fix this for jessie than to
leave it as is, or remove the package. This is a package used by
hardcore sysadmins only anyway, so I think it's okay to run the risk
and simply expect them to use a backport later if there are some
bugs we didn't see or introduce here.

These tools definitely don't belong neither to qemu-kvm nor to qemu
packages. KSM is a separate kernel subsystem and can be used for
various purposes unrelated and independent to qemu. More appropriate
place for it, in my opinion, is util-linux.

(Note that qemu-kvm is only a one-line compatibility shell wrapper).

Version: 2.1.11-2
Severity: important

In the ssd-test sample config:

https://sources.debian.net/src/fio/2.1.11-2/examples/ssd-test.fio/

The test size is 1GB, this line:

size=1g

There are SSDs that have 1g caches and this leads to unhelpful results.

One user I discussed this with had to use a 10g test file to get
consistent and meaningful results.

Maybe bump the example to 10g or add a comment in front of that line.

that would work, either put the package somewhere together with a

Bug#776705: fails to render tasks / VTODO items from iCalendar URLs

2015-01-31 Thread Daniel Pocock
Package: evolution
Version: 3.12.9~git20141130.241663-1+b1
Severity: important

I've tried to view a list of VTODO items from an iCalendar feed in the
Evolution tasks panel.

They don't appear.

Steps to reproduce / test the issue:

- create an ics file on, put it on a web server somewhere, e.g.
 http://localhost/test-file.ics

- put a mixture of VEVENT and VTODO items in the ics file

- in Evolution, click
 - New
 - Calendar
 - On The Web
 - URL: put in the URL of the test ics file

Look in the calendar and the VEVENT items (e.g. birthdays, appointments)
from the ics file are displayed correctly but the VTODO items don't
appear in the task list.

I tested this against the iCalendar support being added to UDD:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=775180

The same test feeds and static hosted ics file are loaded correctly in
Mozilla Lightning.

If there is some bug parsing the VTODO feed then Evolution should
display a warning to let the user know that it is not displaying the
full content of the feed.

Bug#776708: flashplugin-nonfree: Bump version number when upstream has security vulnerabilities

2015-01-31 Thread David Batley
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 1:3.2+wheezy1
Severity: important

Hello,
Flash is vulnerable (again), this time to:
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb15-03.html

It would be really good to bump the version number each time this happens, so
users with unattended-upgrades / graphical updater get a patched version.

My advice to a novice user was to run dpkg-reconfigure to download a new
version. She was understandably confused at seeing firefox's big red "flash is
vulnerable" message and seeing nothing in the graphical updater.

I understand this isn't a problem with the installer itself, but this does
impact its usefulness.

Thanks

* Package name: toppred
  Version : 1.10
  Upstream Author : Eric Deveaud
* URL : https://github.com/bioinfo-center-pasteur-fr/toppred
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : transmembrane topology prediction
Toppred is a program to determine the topology of a transmembrane
protein based on G. von Heijne algorithm.
 .
Each sequence from seq data in fasta format is processed, and toppred
generate the Hydrophobycity profile of the sequence, and the
corresponding hydrophobycities values in the file sequence-ID.hydro.
 .
Furthermore, the predicted topologies are represented as png images.
Each topology is stored in file sequence-ID-number.png
 .
The hydrophobicity profile is computed using a window formed by a core
rectangular window of size n, flanked by 2 triangular windows of size q.
NB rectangular and triangular mean that the ponderation values inside
those windows are respectively constant and variable.
 .
This program is a new implementation of the original toppred program,
based on G. von Heijne algorithm

If I set the variable to /run/user/1000/keyring/ssh like in the

Unfortunately I do not know how this works exactly. I hope you can

Bug#776711: openjdk-8-jre: .desktop file does not launch the Java version that it says it does

2015-01-31 Thread Mike Paul
Package: openjdk-8-jre
Version: 8u40~b22-2
Severity: normal

I have both openjdk-7-jre and openjdk-8-jre installed on my system, and when I
right-click on a JAR file (e.g. in Nautilus), I have two options under the
"Open With" submenu: "OpenJDK Java 7 Runtime" and "OpenJDK Java 8 Runtime".
I'd expect that choosing the first of these would run the program using OpenJDK
7, and that the second would run the program using OpenJDK 8.

However, both options really just execute /usr/bin/java, so they both use
whichever Java version is configured as the default via the alternatives
system. On my system, that's currently OpenJDK 7, so right-clicking a JAR and
choosing "Open With -> OpenJDK Java 8 Runtime" causes it to actually run with
OpenJDK 7. I could change the default using update-alternatives, but then
right-clicking a JAR and choosing to run it with OpenJDK 7 would actually run
it with OpenJDK 8. Either way, this is a very counterintuitive behavior.

I'd suggest changing the .desktop files
(/usr/share/applications/openjdk-7-java.desktop,
/usr/share/applications/openjdk-8-java.desktop) to refer to a specific Java
binary (e.g. /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java) so that it runs
the desired version regardless of where /etc/alternatives/java (and thus
/usr/bin/java) points. Or, if version-specific choices aren't desirable or
feasible, there should be just one .desktop file for launching /usr/bin/java,
shared among all JRE packages, and it shouldn't specify a version number in its
name.

You rightfull object that 'the expectation is that an experienced Unix person'
is subjective in nature and leads to contradictory opinion.

So maybe we should replace the phrase 'If the expectation is ...' by a
reference to standard that define what UNIX is (POSIX, SUS).

However, as far as I understand, ed is mandated by POSIX and SUSv4.

So I do not see how we can keep "important" to refer to UNIX and at the same
time excludind ed.

Cheers,

Bug#776478: firmware-linux-nonfree: tigon driver for a Broadcom ethernet card prevents the computer from suspending to RAM

2015-01-31 Thread ryan
Thank you for replying. Yes, I meant the tg3 driver. I reinstalled it
by reinstalling the package firmware-linux-nonfree using apt-get. Then
I began to reinvestigate the matter. I now think the problem is related
to the iwl3945 driver, which is part of the package firmware-iwlwifi.
The relevant output for “lspci -vnn” is the following:

09:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme
BCM5752 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express [14e4:1600] (rev 02)
Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:01c8]

Kernel driver in use: tg3

0c:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless
3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection [8086:4222] (rev 02)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:1020]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 45
Memory at dcfff000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Capabilities: [c8] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [d0] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+
Capabilities: [e0] Express Legacy Endpoint, MSI 00
Capabilities: [100] Advanced Error Reporting
Capabilities: [140] Device Serial Number
Kernel driver in use: iwl3945

(I removed the serial number for the wireless card. Was I supposed to
remove anything else?)

I reinvestigated the matter by suspending the laptop to RAM several
times, to disk several times, and intermixing the two. Suspending to
RAM a single time and then following by suspending to RAM or disk
creates the problem. (By suspending to RAM I mean clicking on the K in
the bottom, left corner of the screen, clicking on “Leave,” and clicking
on “Sleep, Suspend to RAM.” For suspending to disk I mean clicking on
“Hibernate, Suspend to disk.”)

Again, The first attempt to suspend to RAM will succeed. For the next
attempt, whether I try to suspend to RAM or disk, it will fail.
Otherwise, the laptop will suspend to disk successfully twice in a row.

In the failing cases for RAM and disk the relevant output in the system
log is the following:

This will result in linking against libbfd, but its licence is not
compatible with perf (GPLv3+ vs GPLv2-only).

This is wrong because we still have some architectures that perf doesn't
build on.

I'll simply merge it with the existing bug reports, since it's the same
issue, really.

As I wrote in #772700, simply adding
ConditionFileIsExecutable=/usr/bin/dbus-daemon is not a complete
solution. The autovt feature relies on logind.

Bug#772963: release-notes: cellphone friendly CSS

2015-01-31 Thread Stéphane Blondon
Thank you Niels for your help! I cloned your git repository and
patched the debian.css file.
I attach here the new file and a diff. If it's nicer for you, I could
create a temporary repository on GitHub. I've got a account on alioth
(sblondon-guest) too.

The temporary demo:
http://stephane.yaal.fr/tmp/release-notes.amd64.html/index.en.html

Details about the patch below:

We tried to use word-wrap but the attempt fails. According to him,
with CSS only, we could decrease the font size or hide the text.
I tried the decrease the font size but it's not always enough.
So in the patch, the chapter names are hidden on small screen, only
the arrows are displayed. This solution fixes the problem on small
screen.

On larger screen, both chapter names and arrows are displayed.

The home image is below the arrows. In my opinion, it would be better
to display it at the same height than the arrows. I don't know if it's
hard to do.

I keep some of the added css in the patch and the caution, important
and notes block got a lower margin on small screen.

Ordered lists have the same behaviour (like unordered list).

What do you think about these changes?

For next improvement, we could replace the caution and note images
with more modern ones (from the publican project or tango desktop
project for example).

Can you check what I've committed to svn at
 ?
(This is the Debian directory only; run 'debian/rules orig' to pull in
upstream files from linux-tools_3.16.orig.tar.xz in the parent
directory.)

It builds for me, but the kernel on the porterbox is 3.16.0 and it logs
a bunch of errors when I try to run perf there. I'm hoping a current
Debian kernel will work better!

Ben.

I don't have that file now. Tracker does crash the same way, and there are
many of the same assertion so do you think the files are a problem? What
can be done to better debug the problem? Eric.

Reducing severity since this has a rather straightforward workaround.

thanks

Dear Uwe,

I'm going through some old bug reports for the Inkscape package in
Debian, and I wonder if you could give a bit of feedback on this one
you filed some time ago:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=758986

If possible, please could you attach the SVG file ('ruecken.svg') that
exposes the problem?

Best wishes,

I don't think kluding this is worth it. The only reasonable way to
avoid something like this (for next time) is to have versioned symbols
in libraries (libmikmod in this case).

Those issues are supposedly fixed in mesa 10.4, which is in unstable
now. It might be entirely unrelated, but to rule it out you, could
you try upgrading mesa to the version in unstable?

Ok. Makes sense. I understand that only a minority of users is affected
by that. If you think it's not worth including, so be it. I thought the
change was trivial enough to make everybody happy.

Bug#776723: unblock: winetricks/0.0+20141009+svn1208-2 (pre-approval)

2015-01-31 Thread Joseph Bisch
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Hi, I am requesting an unblock with pre-approval. If granted, my sponsor
will upload the new version of winetricks.

This version of winetricks would fix a serious bug (#775439) which
prevents the Visual C++ 2013 Runtime Libraries from being installed due
to a sha1sum mismatch. I am specifically requesting an unblock for this
sha1sum mismatch, because the Visual C++ Runtime Libraries are used by many
programs that users may want to run using wine.

Attached you will find a debdiff. There was no need to filter anything.

Cheers,
Joseph

Bug#776724: libxml2: Cannot build asterisk using this version of libxml2

2015-01-31 Thread Jon Westgate
Package: libxml2
Version: 2.9.2+dfsg1-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a libxml2 bug or an asterisk bug.
But put simply if you try to run the ./configure --prefix=/usr script from the
asterisk-13 directory I get this error:

checking for xml2-config... /usr/bin/xml2-config
configure: *** The Asterisk menuselect tool requires the 'libxml2' development
package.
configure: *** Please install the 'libxml2' development package.

After uninstalling and re-installing the libxml2 (dpkg -P libxml2-dev &&
apt-get install libxml2-dev) it still didn't fix the problem. I checked and
this same problems also occers with asterisk-12 too.

I did get asterisk to congigure by reverting back to version 2.9.2+dfsg1-1+b1
and this fixed things for me for both *12 and *13.

xml2-config --libs gave -lxml2 in both cases.

I don't really know where to look in order to see how asterisk is testing for
libxml2-dev. I could see mention of 2 header files in configure.ac I checked
and they are both there in /usr/include/libxml2/

--configure.ac snipit
AST_EXT_TOOL_CHECK([LIBXML2], [xml2-config], , ,
[#include
#include ],
[LIBXML_TEST_VERSION])

if test "${PBX_LIBXML2}" != 1; then
AC_MSG_NOTICE(*** The Asterisk menuselect tool requires the 'libxml2'
development package.)
AC_MSG_NOTICE(*** Please install the 'libxml2' development package.)
exit 1
fi
---End of configure.ac snipit
I tried commenting out the exit 1 and it let the configure script continue
Only for it to end with this:
checking for xml2-config... /usr/bin/xml2-config
configure: error: Could not find required 'Libxml2' development package
Any ideas?
