Is not correct. In our case when we take "/" as a first character (for 
example: dpkg-query -S /ls) so no surrounding by '*' and lookup by

So it should IMHO be:

  If the first character is NOT any of "*[?/" then it will be will be surrounded by *, as 
in "*string*" and used as pattern.





When you say "main bug", what do you consider the "remaining bug"?


I did not find another bug, bad the code looks slow (to call awk from 
perl :D ... )




I intent to fix this with an NMU (as my last NMU was obviously buggy).


Please fix it in wheeze, ...

It should be fixed in Unstable first, before fixing it in Wheezy, too.

I did a fresh Jessie install yesterday and installed clamav-daemon+clamav-
freshclam, clamav+clamav-freshclam, deinstalled those packages, reinstalled,
removed, deleted clamav subfolders many many times, to find something i did
wromg.


Finally i found 2 things that stops freshclam working:

1) /etc/clamav/freshclam.conf has a bad HTTPProxyServer line so freshclam cant
connect.
  I commented out the HTTPProxyServer line and freshclam was able to connect.

2) folder /var/lib/clamav was root:root and freshclam cant create files in this
folder.
  I did a "chown clamav:clamav /var/lib/clamav" and clamav and freshclam starts
running fine. (At least it seems so :) ).

Hi Arturo,

The message "Unsupported major.minor version 51.0" means you are running
an application intended for a more recent version of Java. Here Tomcat 8
requires Java 7 and you are probably running Java 6 on your system.
Installing the openjdk-7-jre-headless package should fix this issue.

Thanks for the report, I'll check what we do differently. As far as I
can tell, the symlink is manually created (in postinst), not by
init-system-helpers so it might explain it.

The bundled json extension has JSON NO_EVIL licenses, so it had to be
cut out and replaced by pecl-json-c extension.

We had some problems detangling circular dependencies, but it should be
sorted out automatically and the extension is installed by default. I
think right now the functionality is exact (or almost exact).

But Lion is right that it's probably worth mentioning it in release
noted.

2. Used it in safe mode, but error occurred nevertheless. But once using 
it in safe mode a prompt from the add-on masterpassword+ for logging the 
screen popped up, what was quite strange to me. But it was for sure in 
safe mode, for example language was switched to English in icedove.


3. When the error happens, even in the preview no new message can be loaded.

4. I also made a log file, but as I was looking shortly through the log 
file, there is quite some personal stuff in there. Could you tell me, 
what are the important parts? Then I would take the others out and 
attach it.

When restarting somtimes it works again normally, where everything
(sending, moving deleting) is possible. But not always single
restarting helps. Often only multiple restarting of icedove helps.
Especially that keeping track of sent mails fails, is quite severe for
me.

I can't say, what causes the problem. It doesn't matter whether I
connect to the servers via SSL/TLS or STARTTLS. The problem occurs for
different hosts.


I don't believe it's related to the protocol that Icedove is using
talking to  to the server(s). It's more a OSI layer 3 problem, so the
layer before the protocol. But without any log we can't say nothing.

Did this happen if you running Icedove in safe mode? Maybe a plugin is
making trouble.


This not only happened for the experimental package but also for the
testing package


I'm working with booth version currently, I don't have such issues you
describe so I think it's a problem not directly related to Icedove.

Sure, absolutely.

I don't know if I'm going to push for this, though. So far, the packages 
I'm concerned with do allow reconfiguration of the data storage 
location. In the end, it looks like things are as good as they can be 
given the state of the FHS.

Someone would have to investigate how the integrate with the rest of
Debian. For example we don't ship login-related utilities from
util-linux in Debian, because they are shipped by src:shadow.
Should we be shipping only lslogins from util-linux? Should we
start a discussion with shadow maintainers about deprecating that
implementation and moving over to the same implementation used by
all other (non-Debian-derived) distributions to benefit from their
bugfixing work? etc...

Please feel free to volunteer sorting out the details on why/if they
should be added.

Policy 10.2:

 linked against all libraries that they use symbols from in the same
 way that binaries are.  This ensures the correct functioning of the
 symbols and shlibs systems and guarantees that all libraries can be

This is Debian's wolf4sdl-wl6 binary. game-data-packager git supports
two variants of this version: the one in Stephen Kitt's id Anthology CD

According to README.WL1 in the shareware version, CONFIG.WL1 should not
be distributed because it is (was?) created by the game on first-run.
So I have not included this file in the packaging (but its checksums are
in git history if we need them).

vgagraph.wl1 is 296826 bytes: unsupported (shareware 1.1)

See data/wolf3d.yaml in game-data-packager git for more sizes, checksums, etc.

(Of course, it would be even better if the upstream code could
detect this at runtime rather than needing to be recompiled with
different #defines, but I realise that probably isn't going to happen.)

We change the postinst script [1] to do nothing if the JDK is not
installed (so it's executed on upgrades but not on the first install),
and we add a trigger executing the postinst script when the JDK is
installed. Would that work?

Good idea! Should be pretty straightforward to implement.

Unfortunately not. Upstream is dead for a few years and the code paths
diverge quite a bit depending on the set of compiler flags (e.g the
#ifdefs are spread across enum{}s and different headers are included,
etc.), so I am not going to start this effort on my own. :(

  The main problem is that the manual specification of directories has
not been officially supported for a while. Use pkgconfig:

I don't know how to recognise an older version of Hexen II, or how to
patch it (or whether we can patch it), because I only have the
pre-patched Steam version.

If you can tell us the exact sizes and checksums of the *bad* (unpatched)
version, then we'll be able to recognise it as a specifically bad version,
rather than just a version we don't know about. (You sent details of the
good/patched version to #733459, but as it happens, that matches the
known-good version from Steam.)

We do now have the ability to recognise old versions of files by their
checksum, and I've added a bunch of old versions' checksums to Wolf3D
and Doom. It looks like this:

It's not ideal that we log it once per file (it would be better if each
unique "bad version" was only logged once), but it's a start.

(I don't stop the packaging process immediately on recognising an
unsupported file, because if you have patched and unpatched game files
side by side - e.g. a set of all the versions of DOOM.WAD - you should
still be able to pack up the patched one by pointing to the common parent
directory.)

Also, the help text is now displayed at the end if we couldn't make any
packages at all. In the case of Hexen II, this does now say what you need:

  For hexen2-data, you must provide the version 1.11 patched versions
  of data1/pak0.pak and data1/pak1.pak, or a directory containing them.

  For the mission pack, Portal of Praevus, you must also provide
  portals/pak3.pak.

  Hexen II is available on Steam, .
  Steam installations would typically be found in:
  C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Hexen 2

Is that enough to consider this bug resolved?

Openbsd's virtio-block driver works reasonably well while its virtio-scsi 
driver is not yet stable. The solution to this problem is therefore to 
change qemu's commandline to use virtio-block instead of virtio-scsi. This 
argument should work:

Dear Maintainer,

While experimenting with adding sentinel support to puppet-redis it
became clear that there was no separate startup script for redis-sentinel[1].
Having such a thing is handy when running sentinel as a separate process
(a likely scenario).

It seems like the easiest thing to do would be to duplicate and slightly
modify the existing init script for redis-server, but pointing to the
redis-sentinel binary and to a redis-sentinel.conf.

Note that though I am doing my testing on Ubuntu and with a slightly older
redis package, I have inspected the latest unstable package[2] and see that
the tarball linked there doesn't address this issue.

Bug#775415: korganizer: Calendar loses data

Dear Maintainer,

we observed that KOrganizer loses data and gets out of sync with what is stored
on the hard disk.

We run KOrganizer with many different calendars, which meanwhile are all stored
on the local hard disk. We use BackInTime to produce hourly backups.

As long as KOrganizer stays open everything looks smooth. After rebooting the
machine, we frequently see loss of data - left alone what we probably don't see
immediately.

Tracing the situation with a lost event in the backups revealed that for some
unknown reason the event was lost on hdd on Jan 7th in betwen 1 pm and 2 pm. It
was still available on screen this morning, i.e. more than a week later! After
re-boot it is gone, since it is not on disc.

No uncommon behaviour of KOrganizer was observed on the 7th. The program was
used during that day, but the lunch break may have fallen into the time in
question.

There was much more data lost. Not only the complete loss of files, but also
updates of existing events vanished. It is not yet clear, whether the data loss
hapened at the same time. I did not yet have had the time to analyze the
contents of the files. Finding files which suddenly vanish was much easier. ;)

This was the first time I ever saw a header file licensed under GPL
while the actual implementation (*.cpp) was under BSD.

So in summary:

1. pole was release under GPL (lib+apps)
2. Back in 2005, portion of the pole tarball was re-licensed to BSD
3. This was a mistake that poleview.cpp was relicensed to BSD

In which case please update the poleview.cpp accordingly, and please
specify in the main `LICENSE` that the tarball contains multiple
licenses.

BTW pole (pole.cpp) is not a lib, since it would require a clear ABI,
which does not seems to be specified so far.

In 2.7.1-2, dovocet support together with courier auth support were
removed.  In 2.7.1-3, courier auth support was reactivated.

So I am keeping this bug open but let me also point out some auth
problem encountered in 2.7.1-2 may have been fixed in 2.7.1-3 currently
in unstable with unblock approved for release in Jessie.

See bug #774598 maildrop: Maildrop package is not build with authlib support.

I am not going to reactivate patch but keep it in the source package.
So I am attaching wontfix tag.  If upstrean start support it, I will be
happy to reactivate this feature.

Note that dpkg intentionally does not replace directories with symlinks
and vice versa, you need the maintainer scripts to do this.

Unfortunately the VirtualHost statement defines both IP address
and port for each virtual host. They don't work without the
appropriate Listen statements, so I cannot follow your "independent

Can you confirm that the central Listen statement breaks the
modular approach of a2ensite?

Thats my point: I want to disable apache2 for port 80/tcp without
the risk of loosing this setting on the next package upgrade.

This could be implemented by splitting ports.conf into 2 parts
conf-available/{port80.conf,port443.conf} and to create the symlinks
in conf-enabled (to keep Debian's default). Just a suggestion, of
course.

Just to confirm I also have the same cursor problem using Debian Unstable using 
fglrx drivers. Again same kind hardware with one of these dreaded Hybrid 
Intel/ATI graphic laptops.

Just a few points.

1- Same issue when installing fglrx drivers from the AMD website.

2- Enabling software cursor in xorg.conf I noticed is ignored by the fglrx 
drivers.

3- As a work around tried manually inserting a new cursor using the xinput 
however this results in X crashing using debian fglrx drivers or freezes when 
using ATI manual drivers.

IS there any thing I can do to assist with fixing this bug? If the maintainer 
wants to remotely login this can be arranged. There is clearly a conflict with 
fglrx with another library.

This needs to be fixed in wheezy-pu, too.
Since axe switched architecture from i386 to amd64, there is no upgrade
path from wheezy to jessie and the package from wheezy fails to remove
in jessie due to lack of install-info.

I have found a workaround here:

First, you have to bring the interface down
sudo ifconfig wlan1 down

Then put it into monitor mode:
sudo iwconfig wlan1 mode monitor

Then bring it up:
sudo ifconfig wlan1 up

You can use airodump-ng now:
sudo airodump-ng start wlan1

The usb adapter is OK, i tested it on another computer which has Kali Linux
installed
and it worked without problems.

No this is an oversight, it is a simple daemon which ought to start if
installed regardless of the init system in use.  Adding appropriate
systemd units etc seems appropriate.

Indeed it looks like it does.

Let's try two things:

First, check if upgrading to pulseaudio 5.99 from experimental fixes
anything. There may (I'm not sure) be a fix for volume paths that may
be relevant for you.

If that doesn't work, let's try playing with the hardware volume
controls: run the command `alsamixer` (from the alsa-utils package),
press F6 to select the device (by default alsamixer would show only
the pulseaudio control), and then try moving the available sliders to
see if there is one that is muted or needs to have its volume raised.

You could do it with the current ifcpu64.c32 comboot module. This poses 
another problem, what to do when you have three or more than three 
different kernels?


I prefer not to implement i486 vs i686-pae.
I think it's better the patch to be accepted as-is and later to be 
improved if someone finds out a reasonable way of improving it for 
enabling i486 vs i686-pae.

OK, just making sure you weren't trying to use one of the remotes that 
only works with the older website.


Are you 100% sure your username and password are correct?

If so, can you run 'mhgui --suds-debug' and provide the output.  Be 
careful, though, because the output will contain your password.  If you 
want to email it directly to me, that is fine.

I just write down here that I will have to review your mentioned: #1, 
#2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8 and #9 in my (#757883) (support for 
loopback.cfg file) so that it matches your improvements and fixes.


Unless somehow your #18 is fixed so that the kernel is always renamed. 
That would probably mean that I could just do as the grml implementation 
[1] which would be as simple as always generating grub2 file and 
symlinking /boot/grub/loopback.cfg to /boot/grub/grub.cfg .



#12) [live entries] too many entries added in grub/grub2 (redundant
entries with kernel version specified)
Do you mean the normal entry and the single entry per one kernel? Or do 
you actually mean repeated kernels?

What I had found out myself is that there were installer entries in 
grub2 but not in syslinux but that was when I checked it in Wheezy's 
Debian Live so that might explain it. In GIT it should be as you explain 
then.




Other issues:

#16) grub2 splash not being displayed
I had also thought on this problem. I think there should a way of just 
reusing the current syslinux SVG file so that it generates a suitable 
image that can be used by grub2 as a background image.

#17) grub splash displayed, but horribly (can this be fixed?)
If it's grub1 I don't think it's worth maintaining it. But, I don't know 
what's the Debian's grub vs grub2 policy in Jessie actually.

#18) grub/grub2 do not rename kernel files unlike syslinux. syslinux
does this for a technical reason, but it might be desirable to do across
the board anyway. This needs further consideration.
Please check (#757883) (support for loopback.cfg file) where you can see 
how I re-use syslinux code to avoid syslinux being stubborn on renaming 
the kernel filenames. Don't get me wrong, I also prefer the kernel files 
to be renamed always so that the code is consistent accross all the 
bootloaders.



#19) consider switching grub/grub2 code to work more like syslinux, with
pre-constructed pieces of the menus in files, from which the full menu
can be constructed by including chunks from those files, and replacing
placeholders.
Well, yes, we could do that with grub2 variables. My dream is defining 
these variables or settings once (in a xml file? in a ini file?) and 
then being translated into a syslinux file or to a grub2 file.



Also to be considered, particularly in respect to #18 and #19 are bug
#757697 (support arch autodetection) and the best way to allow
derivatives (e.g. Kali) to replace menu components such as labels and
splash.
Yes, I also think that somehow a DerivativeName setting is missing so 
that we can easily replace Debian to e.g. Kali from a config file 
without too much effort.



As of this moment I have written patches for 11 of these issues, some of
which have already been posted separately. More to follow soon.

Bug#775423: schroot: Better tools for tidying old chroot sessions needed.

I find that I often end up with a pile of old schroot sessions, some
of which could be 'recovered' and used, some of which are just empty,
and maybe some half-deleted/otherwise buggered.

As these all end up taking up space in /var/lib (which is often in /
partition by default these days), it's not hard to get in s state
where / is more than 90% full and things break. 

That's what I have right now after upgrading to jessie on a machine. I
have 88G of 92G in / used: '100%', and everything breaks and I find
this pile of schroot sessions:

And that's after I tidied a few.

I find these schroots painful to manage with the existing
tools. Perhaps there are better way I don't know about, or perhaps we
could use better tidying-tools?

So quite often one can tidy up _everything_ with 
schroot -e --all-sessions
 
However that's annoying if you have a few chroots in use and just want
to tidy up the 10 or so other old ones.

Now you have to look through which long UIDs are mounted, then match them up 
with session: identifiers then run 
schroot -e -c session:
and sometimes (like now), you get told that something is still in use:

e.g trying to tidy now I get:

And it's not clear what's causing that:

Also, if you start cleaning up manually you can easily end up deleting
your /dev or /home or otherwise making a nasty mess. The massive list
of mounts (typically 5 per session) with huge long UIDs is not easy to
deal with manually.

(and by the way why is update-binfmts trying to run things inside the
chroot before tidying it up in the above case?)

So, the point here is that I could certainly use better tools for
'schroot tidying'. Do others agree? Does something already exist?
Any opinions on how that should be best integrated into schroot/sbuild?

I'm imagining something that would look at the session list and report
corresponding empty mounts, or could be told to clean up all 'empty'
sessions or all sessions with no /bin dir (or other probably fatal
flaws), or remove all sessions with no mounts set up, or report which
processes were still using a chroot.

I don't know how hard it is to detect if an schroot session is 'in
use'? The automatic session-recovery on boot makes this harder. Can we
get last-access info which might provide clues?

Presumably there is already some code in schroot for some of this, so
it may not need much on top to have a couple of levels of 'please tidy up'.

Feedback welcome on how best to do this. I'm sufficiently irritated
after a couple of years of this sort of faff to write some code
sometime if that's what's needed.

Yes, that is like a false positive. Let me look at it to see if there is a
better alternative to the 'egrep' which can cause this (and other false
positives)

We recently received an alternative implementation (which avoids lsof)
which might lead to less false positives. If you can I will probably ask
you to test it in order to see if it fixes this issue.

Which is expected: either you decide to use dbconfig-common and you have
the benefits of having the database syncs automated, either you do all
by hand. I have uploaded such change on all OpenStack packages and it
has been accepted by the release team this way, I do believe this will
increase reliability to do that.

Also, as I wrote previously, it is a way too late in the Jessie cycle to
add new debconf screens. If I do:
1/ The release team will refuse it
2/ The translators will scream (rightly)

I don't think this is a good idea. To me, either you use the full
automation, either you don't. I don't see the point in doing only half
of the things, and this may lead to errors. For example, a package would
try to do a dbsync but no database was created.

This assumption is simply wrong. By default, all packages have a DNS
connection= directive.

Have you seen the number of SQLite fixes that the Neutron package
carries? I really don't want to have to do that work again.

Please don't. If you decide to not use dbconfig-common, just do the db
sync by hand. I believe the puppet openstack scripts (which you are
using, right?) do it anyway.
