Bug#749163: handbrake: minor rewording in description
Hello Faheem, Am Samstag, den 24.05.2014, 21:36 +0530 schrieb Faheem Mitha: > A more standard wording would be: > > It neither supports audio encoding to AAC via faac nor MP4 format > muxing via libmp4v2. It falls back to the MKV format instead. thank you for your suggested update to the wording of the package description. However, most recently, this sentence has become pragmatically wrong: Nowadays handbrake supports AAC encoding via libavcodec and MP4 (and MPV) muxing via libavformat. I think it is safe to entirely remove that paragraph from the package description. - Fabian -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#748702: [e9acdce] Fix for Bug#748702 committed to git
tags 748702 +pending thanks Hi, The following change has been committed for this bug by Manoj Srivastava on Mon, 26 May 2014 00:25:49 -0700. The fix will be in the next upload. = [master]: A new bug fixing release * There are three different views of what architecture a machine hasL That of the linux kernel, that of dpkg, and that of the GNU configuration systems, So, when the user specifies arch and subarch, the information has to be transformed for all the systems, as required. This commit tries to give the correct information to dpkg, and also still take into account sub architecture specifications. (Closes: #748702). * Add a dependency on dpkg-dev for the kernel-common package, since the maintainer scripts use dpkg-architecture. Alsom kernel-package can't really do anything useful without pkg-dev, so added there as well. (Closes: #748862). Bug#747173: Make dmesg dump configurable
Hello Juerg, John, I have applied your patch and pushed a new branch to alioth : http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/makedumpfile.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/bug-747173-configurable-dmesg John, could you please merge it & sponsor the upload ? I did a minor edit to your comment : I do think that it is valuable to have the dmesg content in a production environment : this avoids having to send multi-gigabyte of vmcore just to get the backtrace of what caused the kernel panic to happen. -- Louis Bouchard Software engineer, Ubuntu -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#748947: src:cmor: FTBFS on ppc64el
Hi Erwan, Thanks for this patch. Is it possible to login to a ppc64el machine? Why does ppc64el need the dependencies of NetCDF explicitly, rather than having them pulled in automatically? I'd rather not pull in so many dependencies, especially on things like gnutls, if I can avoid it. These are being pulled in because curl is being used, creating quite long and fragile dependency chains. best regards Alastair On 22/05/2014 16:06, Erwan Prioul wrote: > Package: src:cmor > Version: 2.8.0-4 > Severity: normal > Tags: patch > > Dear Maintainer, > > On Ubuntu the attached patch was applied to achieve the following: > > * d/rules: Fix misspelling. > * d/control: Add missing build-dependencies for ppc64el. > * Explicitly link missing netcdf lib dependencies for ppc64el. > > Thanks for considering the patch. > > Erwan Prioul. > > -- System Information: > Debian Release: jessie/sid > APT prefers unstable > APT policy: (500, 'unstable') > Architecture: ppc64el (ppc64le) > > Kernel: Linux 3.13-1-powerpc64le (SMP w/1 CPU core) > Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) > Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash > -- Alastair McKinstry, , , https://diaspora.sceal.ie/u/amckinstry A decent provision for the poor is the true test of civilization. ~Samuel Johnson, Boswell: Life of Johnson -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#737784: Wrong kernel installed after upgrade
Hey! Sorry, I've had this in the back of my head to reply to, and I'm not sure if you still have your system in that condition and logs available etc, or if you have already cleaned it up or reinstalled from scratch. It might have been helpful to go through one of the user support channels first before filing the bug report though, as it still seems to me this was most probably due to user error. I've been pondering about asking you to do just that now, and closing this bug report in the interim, because as it stands this bug report is a bit confused and really not actionable in any significant way, and I'm not sure if I'll have the time to track down the issue here. Bug#749312: bitcoin-qt: overheating --> shutdown, every time
Package: bitcoin-qt Version: 0.9.1-1 Severity: important This is new behavior. I have two laptops (one ThinkPad, one Toshiba, neither of them particularly new) which overheat and shut down every time I run bitcoin-qt. I have tried to slow things down with trickle, but then the client segfaults, also every time!! The excessive use of CPU is in itself perhaps just a minor pathology, but I am tagging this "important" because it creates the unfortunate situation I am now in: I am going to have to try and SOMEHOW get the clients updated such that I can move the bitcoin out to electrum. One expects a degree of stability and reliability from the reference client. For me at least, that is currently being shaken. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (800, 'testing'), (700, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.13-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages bitcoin-qt depends on: ii libboost-chrono1.54.0 1.54.0-5 ii libboost-filesystem1.54.0 1.54.0-5 ii libboost-program-options1.54.0 1.54.0-5 ii libboost-system1.54.0 1.54.0-5 ii libboost-thread1.54.0 1.54.0-5 ii libc6 2.18-5 ii libdb5.3++ 5.3.28-3 ii libgcc1 1:4.9.0-2 ii libminiupnpc8 1.6-3 ii libprotobuf82.5.0-9 ii libqrencode33.4.2-1 ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.8.6+dfsg-1 ii libqt4-network 4:4.8.6+dfsg-1 ii libqt4-xml 4:4.8.6+dfsg-1 ii libqtcore4 4:4.8.6+dfsg-1 ii libqtgui4 4:4.8.6+dfsg-1 ii libssl1.0.0 1.0.1g-3 ii libstdc++6 4.9.0-2 bitcoin-qt recommends no packages. bitcoin-qt suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I don't think there's really anything more to do about this issue in Debian for now - it's really up to upstream if they want to address this, and if they do, we'd probably just wait for that change to appear in a release, and then drop our patch. Getting a newer boinc packaged would be great though, as that would be another package off the list of those which still depend on wxwidgets2.8. Other than that, I'd certainly not complain at some help working through the remaining packages. I'm attempting to keep a list with notes at https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/WxWidgets/Transition2.8to3.0 and there's also a transition tracker (linked to from the wiki page) which is likely more accurate, but lacks the notes about the status of attempted builds, etc. Cheers, Olly -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#749318: kernel-img depends on kernel-common
Package: kernel-package Version: 13.011 Severity: serious Hi, kernel-img built with the current kernel-package fails to install on an older system (wheezy) due to dependency on kernel-common package which is not available there. dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-image-3.14.0-test2-9-g0caed0719426: linux-image-3.14.0-test2-9-g0caed0719426 depends on kernel-common; however: Package kernel-common is not installed. Create a default kernel-img.conf similar to the one generated by the base installer, and register with ucf. Updated the man pages and the examples. Bug#749319: pristine-tar: Failed to reproduce original tarball. Please file a bug report.
Package: pristine-tar Version: 1.31 Severity: important Hi, according to Jerome the following repo: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=debian-tex/3dldf.git should be able to produce a pristine-tar, but on two of my computers running Debian/unstable that ended without success. Here is the log of calling pristine-tar -vdk checkout 3dldf_2.0.3+dfsg.orig.tar.xz What is strange is that it seems that the same thing is done 3 times, again and again, without any specific change. pristine-tar: git archive --format=tar b85f3ae560f2a7bcb8c2d84ed28d174356505ae2 | (cd '/tmp/pristine-tar.4NJIHvQULz' && tar x) pristine-tar: tar xf /tmp/pristine-tar.DYjgcOGbjg/tmpin -C /tmp/pristine-tar.SiwG2a_gGu It seems that the output doesn't give the full truth, otherwise why does the above work? git archive --format=tar ... creates a tar archive to stdout cd '/tmp/pristine-tar.4NJIHvQULz' && tar x unpacks this one again. But then, something else is unpacked from tar xf /tmp/pristine-tar.DYjgcOGbjg/tmpin which is a different directory! Actually, after *one* call of the above I get *6* different /tmp/pristine-tar. directories: $ ls /tmp/pristine-tar.* /tmp/pristine-tar.6gGBZVk6L9: 3dldf_2.0.3+dfsg.orig.tar.xz.tmp /tmp/pristine-tar.DYjgcOGbjg: tmpin /tmp/pristine-tar._I_nCpmXeY: manifest recreatetarball workdir/ /tmp/pristine-tar.SiwG2a_gGu: delta manifest type version wrapper /tmp/pristine-tar.WpfMM80PBv: manifest recreatetarball workdir/ /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3: manifest recreatetarball workdir/ $ Which somehow looks fishy, at least to my eyes, but I don't understand the inner workings of pristine-tar. Here the rest of the output: pristine-tar: set subdir to 3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig pristine-tar: subdir is 3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig pristine-tar: mkdir /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/workdir pristine-tar: mv /tmp/pristine-tar.4NJIHvQULz /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/workdir/3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig pristine-tar: 3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig/m4/ is listed in the manifest but may not be present in the source directory pristine-tar: creating missing 3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig/m4/ pristine-tar: doing full tree sweep to catch missing files pristine-tar: tar cf /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/recreatetarball --owner 0 --group 0 --numeric-owner -C /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/workdir --no-recursion --mode 0644 --files-from /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/manifest pristine-tar: xdelta patch /tmp/pristine-tar.SiwG2a_gGu/delta /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/recreatetarball /tmp/pristine-tar.6gGBZVk6L9/3dldf_2.0.3+dfsg.orig.tar.xz.tmp xdelta: expected from file (/tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/recreatetarball) of length 10946560 bytes pristine-tar: tar cf /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/recreatetarball --owner 0 --group 0 --numeric-owner -C /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/workdir --no-recursion --mode 0644 --files-from /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/manifest pristine-tar: xdelta patch /tmp/pristine-tar.SiwG2a_gGu/delta /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/recreatetarball /tmp/pristine-tar.6gGBZVk6L9/3dldf_2.0.3+dfsg.orig.tar.xz.tmp xdelta: expected from file (/tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/recreatetarball) of length 10946560 bytes pristine-tar: set subdir to 3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig pristine-tar: subdir is 3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig pristine-tar: mkdir /tmp/pristine-tar._I_nCpmXeY/workdir pristine-tar: mv /tmp/pristine-tar.wsZp1jHqd3/workdir/3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig /tmp/pristine-tar._I_nCpmXeY/workdir/3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig pristine-tar: tar cf /tmp/pristine-tar._I_nCpmXeY/recreatetarball --owner 0 --group 0 --numeric-owner -C /tmp/pristine-tar._I_nCpmXeY/workdir --no-recursion --mode 0644 --files-from /tmp/pristine-tar._I_nCpmXeY/manifest -H gnu pristine-tar: xdelta patch /tmp/pristine-tar.SiwG2a_gGu/delta /tmp/pristine-tar._I_nCpmXeY/recreatetarball /tmp/pristine-tar.6gGBZVk6L9/3dldf_2.0.3+dfsg.orig.tar.xz.tmp xdelta: expected from file (/tmp/pristine-tar._I_nCpmXeY/recreatetarball) of length 10946560 bytes pristine-tar: set subdir to 3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig pristine-tar: subdir is 3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig pristine-tar: mkdir /tmp/pristine-tar.WpfMM80PBv/workdir pristine-tar: mv /tmp/pristine-tar._I_nCpmXeY/workdir/3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig /tmp/pristine-tar.WpfMM80PBv/workdir/3dldf-2.0.3+dfsg.orig pristine-tar: tar cf /tmp/pristine-tar.WpfMM80PBv/recreatetarball --owner 0 --group 0 --numeric-owner -C /tmp/pristine-tar.WpfMM80PBv/workdir --no-recursion --mode 0644 --files-from /tmp/pristine-tar.WpfMM80PBv/manifest -H posix pristine-tar: xdelta patch /tmp/pristine-tar.SiwG2a_gGu/delta /tmp/pristine-tar.WpfMM80PBv/recreatetarball /tmp/pristine-tar.6gGBZVk6L9/3dldf_2.0.3+dfsg.orig.tar.xz.tmp xdelta: expected from file (/tmp/pristine-tar.WpfMM80PBv/recreatetarball) of length 10946560 bytes pristine-tar: Failed to reproduce original tarball. I then recently discovered that if I kept all accounts unticked, and just searched specific folders, it worked fine, but this wasn't obvious, and it should work no matter which you tick. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing-updates APT policy: (500, 'testing-updates'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.14-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages icedove depends on: ii debianutils 4.4 ii fontconfig2.11.0-5 ii libasound21.0.27.2-4 ii libatk1.0-0 2.12.0-1 ii libc6 2.18-5 ii libcairo2 1.12.16-2 ii libdbus-1-3 1.8.2-1 ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.102-1 ii libevent-2.0-52.0.21-stable-1 ii libffi6 3.1~rc1+r3.0.13-12 ii libfontconfig12.11.0-5 ii libfreetype6 2.5.2-1 ii libgcc1 1:4.9.0-3 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-02.30.7-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.40.0-3 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.23-1 ii libhunspell-1.3-0 1.3.2-7 ii libnspr4 2:4.10.4-1 ii libnss3 2:3.16-1 ii libpango-1.0-01.36.3-1 ii libpangocairo-1.0-0 1.36.3-1 ii libpangoft2-1.0-0 1.36.3-1 ii libpixman-1-0 0.32.4-1 ii libsqlite3-0 3.8.4.3-3 ii libstartup-notification0 0.12-3 ii libstdc++64.9.0-3 ii libvpx1 1.3.0-2 ii libx11-6 2:1.6.2-2 ii libxext6 2:1.3.2-1 ii libxrender1 1:0.9.8-1 ii libxt61:1.1.4-1 ii psmisc22.21-2 ii zlib1g1:1.2.8.dfsg-1 Versions of packages icedove recommends: ii hunspell-en-us [hunspell-dictionary] 20070829-6 ii myspell-en-gb [myspell-dictionary]1:3.3.0-4 Versions of packages icedove suggests: ii fonts-lyx 2.0.6-1 ii libgssapi-krb5-2 1.12.1+dfsg-1 -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#745447: povray: FTBFS on kFreeBSD: Unix detected, but flavor not identified
tags 745447 patch thanks The attached patch allows kFreeBSD to detected as a BSD-style Unix and for the build to proceed. When I first tested this patch on a kfreebsd-i386 VM, the build would proceed until 'make check' and then segfault. Bug#749324: volumeicon-alsa: Should provide a .desktop file
Package: volumeicon-alsa Version: 0.4.6-2.1 Severity: normal Hi, it would be great if this package could provide a .desktop file, which makes it easier to start. Also, this allows simply linking or copying the desktop file into ~/.config/autostart to make the application autostart. Perhaps it's even better if a desktop file is provided in /etc/xdg/autostart, so the application autostarts when installed, though that might conflict with existing volume handling tools (depending on the X session type chosen). notify-osd has a similar problem and seems to handle this by adding X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false to make it disabled by default, but it seems that newer gnome versions don't have any obvious way to enable disabled startup items like this one again (there is gnome-session-properties, but that is removed in gnome 3.12 AFAIU. Just providing a desktop file in /usr/share/applications would help in any case. This will allow using gnome-tweak-tool (which seems to be the de facto tool for gnome customization) to add volumeicon to the list of startup applications by picking it from a list. Gr. Package: florence Version: 0.5.1-1 Severity: important User: tails-...@boum.org Usertags: user-interface Usertags: localization Hi, on Wheezy/GNOME, when switching to an Arabic keyboard layout, each non-Latin character on the keyboard displayed by Florence is rendered as the famous square meaning "no such character available in this font". I can reproduce this with florence 0.6.0-2~bpo70+1 too. In that version, unchecking "Use system font" in the Florence preferences (this gives me "sans" as the font) works around this bug at least for Arabic. I could find no such setting in 0.5.1-1. I have not checked if a newer upstream release (0.6.1 or 0.6.2) fixes this. Thank you for maintaining Florence in Debian. Bug#749335: Oldstable GnuPG no longer capable of using large keys
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA512 Package: gnupg Version: 1.4.10-4+squeeze4 X-Debbugs-CC: intrig...@debian.org First-time bug reporter here, so my apologies in advance if I've left something out or committed any faux pas. I use TAILS to help safeguard my master GPG keypairs, of which I have two. The first (for general use) is a 4096-bit key. The second (for long-term identity) is a 16384-bit key. Up to and including TAILS 0.22, I was able to use both keys with stock GnuPG. From TAILS 0.22.1 onwards, I can only use the smaller key. Attempting to sign other keys with the larger key causes GnuPG to immediately die with an "out of secure memory" message, as also reported in bug #739424. (Though that bug is filed against a different version.) I have verified that the old versions of GnuPG in TAILS 0.22 continue to work correctly. I copied the GnuPG executable out of TAILS 0.22 and into TAILS 1.0, and ran both executables against the larger key. The version shipped with 1.0 dies as described, but the imported version from 0.22 works correctly. The changelog from TAILS 0.22 to 0.22.1 includes the update to GnuPG described in DSA-2821-1, but nothing more. Since both versions of GnuPG report themselves as 1.4.10, I am assuming that TAILS is tracking Debian oldstable, and I have therefore filed this bug against that version. -Lance -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v2.0.22 (MingW32) iQIcBAEBCgAGBQJTg0jnAAoJEECmBqfoBgXnxlAP/2GvKizXzG/kTZGmg68YUsxL 0/eZGbSK5nQ/EP+ez8qc9hiUPceJ+PBBXErSoEm2EXSUaPPCauIr9Xuh5upEVBI2 rTw0kt3LzKpxdQqbxUJ/m0Zr+hyd+QCdRA7AejNLbp1q7jrjmYdGRKFJqSWP5e7Y CKS7QwMt0ctI0fHfB7s4lO8wZ2l1g2XhmSV318jukSyGFJpJKyIzRqPdx6NQ9Mx6 C99LHhWjBdneJP24d/w/KTwK2Ct2CNc4iY8Oln0gVsh4IAktDrtW4h3wz04pXp8Y cUyqVuYE9eExVBD/Im9GCeXWLPZ02UaQFRQFt2Y60vqYLPhDGqPCVUz00ztecdPi ptL0fyDKd/F6nuAwBqlMHqcCqqTo7sv218K8lmfoR0rZ6FhblQONffNwiWa1MNCE 0/+Sw7f84SRNjJUsz4I+Q54e03lMusmdXX3oNKIYhwVZlYns/fDq0Eg1hWWx3DMF 8vi8UT9stTt7ncnDymENiDONKtW+cVLNO8TjybDT6VTpMDYWkJIh/R9lWadXbpB4 h43D/9/otgVzPflASw7wI/888URi4WscmLeNB2hEjxw5wYhjKcWbRpFVPHE+Kwde tXVlZO1hMMAtS/5oG/A3EW3WFErWO/d6NZSvgalJ0qkNj90Nqu5FTXSXZyW7PjfA NOyW8JUJQeYfT3uWpDqU =Ognd -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#732920: When this patch can be adopted by Testing?
I have same question here. I has been 3 months after the patch submitted. I got bitten by this bug today and my client's Internet was totally down until I have time to log into the system and finally found after reboot, the ip_forward is not set. I have to create a file under /etc/sysctl.d to workaround this bug. One thing I do not fully understand is today's latest git repos (26 May), the snippet of sysctl.c is as follows: if (stat(DEFAULT_PRELOAD, &ts) < 0 || S_ISREG(ts.st_mode)) { if (!Quiet) printf(_("* Applying %s ...\n"), DEFAULT_PRELOAD); rc |= Preload(DEFAULT_PRELOAD); } My limited C knowledge telling me is that if stat /etc/sysctl.conf returns an error or /etc/sysctl.conf is a regular file, it will try to Preload the /etc/sysctl.conf still. I couldn't understand the point of checking here. Shouldn't be stat()==0 && S_ISREG() then we do the preloading? Best Regards, Bai Shi

Bug#749338: ITP: tinycthread -- minimalist, portable, threading library for C
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Klee Dienes * Package name: tinycthread Version : 1.1+20120910.git Upstream Author : Marcus Geelnard * URL : http://tinycthread.bitsnbites.eu * License : Zlib Programming Lang: C Description : minimalist, portable, threading library for C TinyCThread is a minimalist, portable, threading library for C, intended to make it easy to create multi threaded C applications. The library is closesly modeled after the C11 standard, but only a subset is implemented at the moment. This library is used by some variants of the Razer Hydra support. I don't know of other libraries implementing the C11 threading API, although I imagine that the standard compiler tools will support it eventually. I'm maintaining my packaging on gitorious.org (https://www.gitorious.org/tinythread/tinycthread-debian), to match the upstream distribution. Co-maintainers are welcome. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#727481: opus-tools: run dh-autoreconf to update config.{sub,guess} and {libtool,aclocal}.m4

Can you confirm which of these ports are currently actually in progress for Debian, and whether or not they all already have the necessary support in sid autoconf/libtool? OpenRISC still isn't listed on the debian ports page (though I'm aware there was some interest in it), and last time I asked around nobody could confirm there was actually a Debian ppc64el port going to happen (only that ubuntu was doing one). > I plan to upload NMUs as well for other opus tools and other packages > that you maintain, as libogg that I told you a few days ago. These > packages are preventing hundreds or reverse build-dependencies to > build cleanly in new arches, and thus causing us to do a lot of dull > manual work. I'd much prefer that they be updated, and tested, and confirmed to work correctly with a sufficiently new version of autotools, which can then be used everywhere, including for backports. Randomly generating them, with a random version of those tools just moves confusing and difficult failures, and the dull manual work of dealing with that, onto somebody else - rather than giving everybody a tested and known working build system. I'm not unsympathetic to the work of porters, but I'm also keenly aware that many of these packages also get rebuilt by people doing back (or forward) ports of them, and I firmly believe in the importance of that remaining as painless as it so far has been too. > For example, there are 18 reverse build-deps of libopus-dev in main, > including libav, which in turn has 86 reverse build-depends on main > for libavcodec-dev alone; etc etc. Worse is the case of libogg-dev, > which has 77 direct reverse build-depends in main. I'm happy to update anything which needs it if these ports are actually now really in progress for Debian. For many of them it's just a case of balancing the timing of new upstream releases with actual work on the ports really being started, since I always pull and test the latest autotools boilerplate for those, and send patches upstream where things have been deprecated or need modifying to work correctly with them (which in the last few autotools releases has become a more frequent necessity again). If you can give me a concrete list of what's actually holding you up and for which ports (or somewhere I can look at to see that), then I'll expedite updates of the things that are actually bottlenecks. If you can confirm that they actually build *and work* on those new ports without needing other mods sent upstream then even better. Handwaving about "some ports", and packages like opus-tools, which is very much a leaf, and has only one other leaf that *suggests* it, isn't as helpful as giving actual specifics, and actual timelines for when things are going to be bottlenecks. There is no magic "this will fix everything forever" that trumps doing actual testing - and the whole point of packages having maintainers is so that the testing can be done. There's more to building a distro than "it seems to build from source. ship it." Cheers, Ron -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
