Bug#726701: Fwd: Bug#726701: general: apt-get install bootchart pybootchartgui command marking important packages for removal
Riccardo, Sorry for the late response, just checking email. Loaded a fresh install of Debian 7 Wheezy and ran a few tests. 1 - apt-get install pybootchartgui 2 - apt-get install bootchart2 3 - apt-get install bootchart2 pybootchartgui All of these tests installed these packages with no issues, at least no issues on install as I didn't go any further and test operation. 4 - apt-get install bootchart > This would have caused an unbootable system if I continued with the installation. I also tested Synaptic Package Manager to see if there were different results. Same results as above, installing bootchart will mark those packages for removal. I did notice the debian icon next to boochart which may confuse new users as a package that could be installed with no issues. If you need anything else let me know. tuck

Yes. This side effect of the switch to libgweather was described in NEWS.Debian, but unfortunately that latter file did not make it into the upload. I am going to fix this. Concerning the fact that configuration is lost on upgrade, I am not sure this can be fixed, since locations are not represented in the same way in the old and the new version of the extension. As far as I can tell, this bug (and bug #479096 in libacpi), make battery-stat fail to work on the current kernels in Debian. As this make the battery-stat package almost completely useless, I raise the severity of this bug to grave. As for options on how to move on, I suspect rewriting battery-stat as a script and dropping the C daemon as I suggested in bug #720338 is the best way forward. On a debian wheezy system, do the following to replicate the bug: * create test-user * login as test-user using "Gnome Classic" * set orientation of bottom panel to "Right" * start any program (e.g. calculator) from application menu --> gnome crashes and user is logged out Both an updated machine (from Squeeze) as well as a freshly installed one showed this behavior. -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.2 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/12 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-panel depends on: ii gconf-service 3.2.5-1+build1 ii gnome-icon-theme-symbolic 3.4.0-2 ii gnome-menus3.4.2-5 ii gnome-panel-data 3.4.2.1-4 ii libatk1.0-02.4.0-2 ii libc6 2.13-38 ii libcairo-gobject2 1.12.2-3 ii libcairo2 1.12.2-3 ii libdconf0 0.12.1-3 ii libebook-1.2-133.4.4-3 ii libecal-1.2-11 3.4.4-3 ii libedataserver-1.2-16 3.4.4-3 ii libedataserverui-3.0-1 3.4.4-3 ii libgconf-2-4 3.2.5-1+build1 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.26.1-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.33.12+really2.32.4-5 ii libgnome-desktop-3-2 3.4.2-1 ii libgnome-menu-3-0 3.4.2-5 ii libgtk-3-0 3.4.2-6 ii libgweather-3-03.4.1-1+build1 ii libical0 0.48-2 ii libice62:1.0.8-2 ii libpanel-applet-4-03.4.2.1-4 ii libpango1.0-0 1.30.0-1 ii librsvg2-2 2.36.1-1 ii libsm6 2:1.2.1-2 ii libsoup2.4-1 2.38.1-2 ii libtelepathy-glib0 0.18.2-2 ii libwnck-3-03.4.2-1 ii libx11-6 2:1.5.0-1+deb7u1 ii libxau61:1.0.7-1 ii libxml22.8.0+dfsg1-7+nmu2 ii libxrandr2 2:1.3.2-2+deb7u1 Versions of packages gnome-panel recommends: ii alacarte3.5.3-1 ii evolution-data-server 3.4.4-3 ii gnome-applets 3.4.1-3 ii gnome-control-center1:3.4.3.1-2 ii gnome-icon-theme3.4.0-2 ii gnome-session 3.4.2.1-4 ii gnome-session-fallback 3.4.2.1-4 ii gvfs1.12.3-4 Versions of packages gnome-panel suggests: ii gnome-terminal [x-terminal-emulator] 3.4.1.1-2 ii gnome-user-guide 3.4.2-1+build1 ii guake [x-terminal-emulator] 0.4.3-3 ii konsole [x-terminal-emulator] 4:4.8.4-2 ii lxterminal [x-terminal-emulator] 0.1.11-4 ii nautilus 3.4.2-1+build1 ii xterm [x-terminal-emulator] 278-4 ii yelp 3.4.2-1+b1 -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Debian users have been using > /var/lib/samba exclusively for the better part of a decade; migrating to > this private/ directory adds no value for our users. In the alternate, the only reason this happened now is because we are finally having the Debian packages follow where upstream has decided to put the files. Having different packages moving files around to different places only increases user confusion, and creates 'only on Debian' bugs. For example, a significant number of issues came about as folks tried to divine if a particular TDB was short, medium or long-term, when no such separation existed in the code. We (upstream) have gone to significant effort to integrate the FHS changes that have been proposed via Debian, I can only ask that having got to a mutually agreed state, that Debian not change it again, having once more Debian packages special and different. Or in the alternate, propose such changes upstream. Bug#726989: qtchooser doesn't search system qt config paths if XDG_CONFIG_DIRS is set
Package: qtchooser Version: 31-g980c64c-4 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, ToolWrapper::searchPaths() checks first if XDG_CONFIG_DIRS is set before adding system qt paths to the search list. I presume yes as I can't reproduce it in debian/sid and in a fresh precise chroot + universe + dialog (from the former) I see no progress from both… [but the behavior of debconf-apt-progress seems to have changed since precise] Some details on what you mean and how you reproduce it exactly might help. Bug#726670: broken on system with IPv6-only dns resolver
Hi Alexandre, thanks for your bug report. I haven't verified your complete bug report yet. It seems like that this problems occurs due to the fact, that your local installation is v6 only and the configured DNSBLs do not offer IPv6-lookups nor are they reachable via v6 - therefor you run into the mentioned problems. Bug#522935: Compiz has been removed from Debian, but Emerald seem to require it
block 522935 by 722451 block 597839 by 722451 kthxbye Hi, Compiz has been removed[1] from Debian about two months ago due to being unmaintained and RC-buggy. Bug#721489: system default background color value
control: forcemerge 721489 723721 Hi, gnome-terminal as installed is set to use system default color for text and background. Let's start it under different DE: Under GNOME3, gnome-terminal is black text on white background. Under XFce, gnome-terminal is black text on black background. Under KDE,gnome-terminal is black text on black background. If I configure this terminal to a custom setting by unchecking "use color from system theme" under "Color" tab, things work as expected (Green on Black) for all cases. So problem is the default background color setting value nterpretation is different for DEs. This needs to be fixed properly. (Under KDE, I started gnome-terminal from another console, terminal size seems strange. That is another story.) I hope you didn't place a real file in /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/? Only symlinks should be created in .wants directories. > Perhaps this file should be added to "conffiles" ? The conffiles handling of symlinks in dpkg is odd afair. That's why the symlink shipped in the systemd package is not flagged as conffile automatically. We'd have to mangle the conffiles manually to achieve that, but I'm a bit worried about the possible side effects. I assume symlinks aren't conffiles for a reason. (Added in response > to bug #703262; cc:ing that bug's submitter.) It seems to me that most test suites involve running the program from the package, which would be difficult to do when cross building; and even if it somehow works, would not be testing it on the destination system. But, I don't have a strong opinion about this, and don't feel debhelper has any obligation to avoid breaking cross building packages whose test suites are like that, so I'll make a change if it's generally agreed on. -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#727019: ITP: litl -- Lightweight Trace Library
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Samuel Thibault * Package name: litl Version : 0.1 * URL : https://fusionforge.int-evry.fr/projects/litl/ * License : BSD Programming Lang: C Description : Lightweight Trace Library LiTL is a lightweight tool for recording events during the execution of scientific high-performance applications. LiTL is designed to record events on the user level only. Therefore, it consumes much less resources (CPU time, memory, and the disk space) as the alternative tools, e.g. FxT that gather events on both user and kernel levels. As a result, LiTL is well-suited for recording events on embedded systems like ARM architectures. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Maybe something changed > in the new release? Everything you say is consistent with tar's output changing. However, it does not seem to be a general change affecting all packages; I can still pristine-tar checkout old tarballs of pristine-tar with tar 1.27 installed. Per investigation below, this bug probably affects all tarballs with files long enough for tar to use a LongLink. Let's produce two uncompressed tarballs using the two versions of tar with --owner 0 --group 0 --numeric-owner --no-recursion --mode 0644 which should result in stable output when given the same set of input files from openafs, and compare them to see what causes them to differ. pristine-tar -vdk makes this easy, just use the recreatetarball file it creates. joey@wren:~/tmp/openafs#master-1.4>cmp /home/joey/tmp/pristine-tar.epyfH0IIw6/recreatetarball /home/joey/tmp/pristine-tar.3gBpeCiihU/recreatetarball /home/joey/tmp/pristine-tar.epyfH0IIw6/recreatetarball /home/joey/tmp/pristine-tar.3gBpeCiihU/recreatetarball differ: byte 31013481, line 869603 Interesting, that's a long way into the file for them to start to differ!
