Template: apt-listdifferences/initialize
Type: boolean
Default: true
_Description: Initialize the apt-listdifferences database now?
The source packages database for apt-listdifferences can be initialized now.
Depending on your Internet connection, this may take a while, but it will also
provide immediate functionality for the tool.
 .
If you do not choose this option, apt-list-differences will instead become
functional slowly
over time as more and more reference source packages get added to its database
 when they are first seen.

Template: apt-listdifferences/purge
Type: boolean
Default: false
_Description: Remove the apt-listdifferences database?
The apt-listdifferences database is currently still present on disk. You can

Bug#719950: miniupnpd: General update after the debconf review process

2013-09-26 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Saturday, August 17, 2013, I sent you a notification about the beginning of
a review
action on debconf templates for miniupnpd.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/ with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control
file(s) alone.

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Saturday, August 17, 2013. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

Bug#724644: initramfs-tools: Parsing of ip= option is brittle

2013-09-26 Thread Matto Marjanovic

Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.113
Severity: normal

Dearest Maintainer,

The configure_networking() function in scripts/functions fails
to parse an "ip=" kernel option if it has more than one parameter
following the device name. For example:

  ip=client-ip:server-ip:gw-ip:netmask:hostname:device:autoconf

works just fine, however,

  ip=client-ip:server-ip:gw-ip:netmask:hostname:device:autoconf:dns0:dns1

does not, and that happens to be the format described in
  https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/filesystems/nfs/nfsroot.txt

A one character change to configure_networking() will make it immune to
any number of parameters following the device name:

--- functions 2013-09-25 00:39:49.0 -0700

Bug#724645: Error: Could not prefetch package provider 'apt': invalid byte sequence in US-ASCII

2013-09-26 Thread Helmut Grohne
Package: puppet-common
Version: 3.3.0-1
Severity: normal

Since this release puppet started erroring out with this message:
| Debug: Prefetching apt resources for package
| Debug: Executing '["/usr/bin/dpkg-query", "-W", "--showformat", "'${Status}
${Package} ${Version} :DESC: ${Description}\\n:DESC:\\n'"]'
| Error: Could not prefetch package provider 'apt': invalid byte sequence in
US-ASCII

This is likely due to a change in the apt provider that fetches package
descriptions now whereas it did not earlier. It later queries other
packages individually and fails similarly if the respective package
description contains non-ascii characters. For instance the description
of python-jinja2 is rejected, but python-werkzeug is queried just fine.

This ultimately leads to puppet not applying configuration for packages
that contain non-ascii characters in their description.

The issue appears to be locale-specific, because it is not reproducible
when setting LC_ALL, LANG or LC_CTYPE to en_US.utf8. Puppet should not
use the user provided locale to decode package descriptions, because
dpkg-query always outputs utf8.

Bug#724648: xpat2: Please enable localized messages also in (current) UTF-8 environments

2013-09-26 Thread Helge Kreutzmann
Package: xpat2
Version: 1.07-18
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

By chance I read that xpat2 is localized. However, in my default
German environment, where LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, the game is displayed in
English.

After investigating, I found that the following does the trick:
/etc/X11
cp -ivpR de_DE/ de_DE.UTF-8

Since then xpat2 looks and plays fine in German without manually
fiddeling with the LANG environment variable.

Probably a similar fix for Italian and French is required.

Bug#709641: gtkiostream will close these bugs

2013-09-26 Thread Matt Flax

Hi there,

The package gtkiostream now replaces some old packages and closes the
bug 709641 :

mffm-fftw-dev
mffm-fftw1
libaudiomask-dev
libaudiomask1

The new package is based on autotools and so it is very simple to build
and is already packaged here :

https://sourceforge.net/projects/gtkiostream/files/?source=navbar
Look at version 1.1.1 onwards.

I can't upload because my key isn't in the ring. If someone else could
upload for me - that would be great ...
The 'debian' directory ships with the sources and should work fine using
dpkg-buildpackage

thanks
Matt

That "s" didn't belong on the end of "media", and it doesn't belong on
the end of "management" either.

Corrected control file and overall patch attached.

Bug#724647: Pyplusplus development and fork

2013-09-26 Thread Leopold Palomo-Avellaneda
Hi,

thanks to considering to use the pyplusplus fork. But ompl needs pyplusplus if
the python bindings are enable.

Of course it's important, but if it needs an special version of pyplusplus and
it's too complicated to have it in debian, I disable it, that's all.

I think that it's more important to have ompl in debian without python
bindings that not have it.

Regards,

Leopold

Bug#724653: transition: libproxy

2013-09-26 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: transition

Hi,

We would like to upgrade libproxy to the 0.4 series. This requires a
transition of libproxy0 to libproxy1.

I'm already requesting a transition slot and a transition tracker
page so we can have an overview of the impacted packages, but libproxy
is still FTBFS due to a check failing on some architectures (a bug has
been already been opened upstream).

Cheers

Laurent Bigonville

Bug#724654: pmailq: package description review

2013-09-26 Thread Justin B Rye
Package: pmailq
Version: 0.5-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

The package description for pmailq has generally good content, but is
written in obviously non-native-speaker English.

> Description: postfix mail queue manager

Here and below: the binary and the packagename may both be "postfix",
but the canonical upstream form of the name of this MTA is "Postfix".

> pmailq parses the output of command from postfix (postqueue -p). It permits

This first sentence has a missing article or something; but it's not
clear why readers would want to know the exact Postfix-specific form
of the command anyway. Why not stick to the standard sendmail command
that this package is named after? After all, it's easier to invoke it
as (/usr/bin/)mailq than as /usr/sbin/postqueue -p.

> to perform some actions on a group of entries in queue (like removing or

"Permits to perform" is ungrammatical: "permit" requires a Noun Phrase
object. You could say "it permits admins to perform", but it's
simpler just to throw out the inappropriate reference to permission
(performing these actions was never forbidden). Why not just carry on
from the first line where pmailq "parses" input by saying that it "can
perform" these actions?

"Some actions" is unidiomatic; just drop the "some". On the other
hand, "in queue" should be "in the queue". (While I'm here, I'd
better apologise on behalf of the native English-speaking world for
the spelling of the word "queue".)

"Like" is idiomatic but informal (unless you literally mean "similar
to but not actually including"); use "such as".

"Removing or displaying them in a machine readable format" is a
malformed elision - it implies you're removing them in a
machine-readable format as well as displaying them that way. The fix
is to put back the elided "them" after "removing".

Pedantically, there should probably be a hyphen in "machine-readable"
when it occurs as an attributive modifier.

> displaying them in a machine readable format). They are selected by applying
> filters (wildcards are allowed) on criterias like email address, error
> message

There's a factual problem here: wildcards are only allowed for the
pattern-matches, not when filtering by size or queue status (I can't
list all messages where the size matches "*666*"). I've tried to
reshuffle things in my version to make that clear.

Going back to language problems: "criterias" is a malformed plural.
Criteria is already the plural of criterion. If the word is obscure
enough for people to get this wrong, we should probably try to avoid
using it.

Next we get another inappropriate use of "like"; here it's worse, in
that the list given appears in fact to be exhaustive.

"Email address" is unclear. In fact it filters only on (remaining)
recipient email addresses, not the sender address.

> from SMTP server, message size, mail status in queue.

It's a bit redundant to specify that the server that Postfix is
receiving error messages from about email is an SMTP server.

Missing conjunction at the end of the list (filtering by X, Y, or Z).

And my most pedantic nitpick of all: there's a surplus trailing blank
line.

My suggested replacement text:

| Description: Postfix mail queue manager
| pmailq parses the output of the Postfix mailq command, and can perform
| actions on a group of entries in the queue (such as removing them, or
| listing them in a machine-readable format). They can be selected by
| size, by queue status, and by pattern matching (with wildcards) on
| recipient addresses and server error messages.

Wait... what kind of action can you perform via pmailq *besides*
removing or listing messages? Okay, so there are two different kinds
of "listing", but wouldn't it be quicker just to catalogue all three?
So on second thoughts I recommend:

| Description: Postfix mail queue manager
| pmailq processes the output of the Postfix mailq command, and can list,
| parse (machine-readably), or delete queued messages in batches. They can
| be selected by size, by queue status, and by pattern matching (with
| wildcards) on recipient addresses and server error messages.

What happens if you clear/remove your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and place the above

There were a number of warnings related to your xorg.conf settings.

I too have my swap partition on lvm.

Bug#723202: Further Information, segfault (network-manager-vpnc-gnome: fails to import .pcf profiles)

2013-09-26 Thread Paul Zeiger

Hi eyerybody,

today I started nm-connection-editor from a command line and tried to
import my vpn profile because an update of the networkmanager-vpnc
package was made yesterday in the testing branch. After clicking on the
Open button the window crashed another time and the program terminated
leaving the error message:

Segmentation fault

Hope this helps triggering the problem.

Kind regards

Paul

The version number "1:3.4+7+deb7u1" looks a bit strange, but
"1:3.4+8" had already been used, so I hope the above is the correct
versioning for a stable upload.

Under the circumstances, yes, thanks.

Bug#724275: uswsusp: Stops at boot with "resume: libgcrypt version 1.5.3"

2013-09-26 Thread Rodolfo García Peñas (kix)

Hi Philipp,

thanks a lot for your reply. Can you try these two options?

Option one:

1. Edit the file /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume and change the line:

RESUME=/dev/mapper/atlantis-swap

with the swap line in /etc/uswsusp.conf

RESUME=/dev/atlantis/swap

2. Run update-initramfs -u -k all
3. Reboot.

Report me if is ok.

Option two:

1. Edit the file /etc/uswsusp.conf and change the line:

resume device = /dev/atlantis/swap

with the line in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

resume device = /dev/mapper/atlantis-swap

2. Edit (again) the file /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume and
restore the initial line:

RESUME=/dev/mapper/atlantis-swap

2. Run update-initramfs -u -k all
3. Reboot.

Report me if is ok now.

Thanks a lot again for your help.

Rodolfo.

Hi,

I ran into exactly the same problem after upgrading today from
linux-image-3.10-2-amd64 to linux-image-3.10-3-amd64.
At first, only the new kernel was affected, but after running
update-initramfs -u -k all
all my kernels failed to boot. The only workaround was the kernel option
"noresume".

I too have my swap partition on lvm.

$ cat /proc/swaps
Filename TypeSizeUsed Priority
/dev/dm-1 partition 4194300 0-1

$ cat /etc/uswsusp.conf
# /etc/uswsusp.conf(8) -- Configuration file for s2disk/s2both
resume device = /dev/atlantis/swap
compress = y
early writeout = y
image size = 1911949475
RSA key file = /etc/uswsusp.key
shutdown method = platform

$ cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
RESUME=/dev/mapper/atlantis-swap

Hibernation and resume used to work until recently.

FWIW This should just cause a deprecation warning to be printed; it
shouldn't break mercurial-git. If it does, can you please add a backtrace?

I was about to ask Benjamin how he found this typo. :)

We are in the (lengthy) process of reorganizing code
(and fixing bugs along the way) to finally make way for apt(8).

As this binary isn't built/included in the package yet,
strings from it aren't in the pot yet.

Bug#724661: whois: Does not recognize RFC 6996 private AS numbers

2013-09-26 Thread Richard Hartmann
Package: whois
Version: 5.0.26

Hi,

as per IRC:

Unknown AS number or IP network. Please upgrade this program.
richih@titanium ~ % whois as420001
Unknown AS number or IP network. Please upgrade this program.
richih@titanium ~ %

12:51:36 < Kaveh> RichiH: that query is a special one, but in general the whois
clients should be updated because jWhois (I think Debian uses Intelligent
Whois) used to rely on ARIN legacy format of delegated files for all resource
queries and ARIN has stopped publishing that file from about a month
ago, so basically jWhois is broken for the number resource
queries
12:52:29 <@RichiH> Kaveh: they did that.. because?
12:52:59 < Kaveh> moving away from legacy AFAIK. all RIRs have the Extended
Delegated Stat files which is documented, etc.
12:53:14 < Kaveh> but the rest still publish the old format and AFAIK has no
plans to stop publishing the legacy format
12:53:21 < Kaveh> only ARIN did
12:54:40 < Kaveh> and some whois clients, refer almost all number resources to
ARIN and ARIN has this refer: thing in whois. so they refer the client to the
RIR in charge of the resource

Thanks,
Richard

Bug#724662: [apper] upgrade failed with broken apper

2013-09-26 Thread Adrien Grellier
Package: apper
Version: 0.8.1-1
Severity: grave

Hi,

Since the last update (version 0.8), apper doesn't work anymore. I got this
message :

Unable to open database read-only: Database action 'prepare dependency insert
statement' failed: table dependencies has no column named items_installed

It seems to occurs on every PC with apper and makes apper completely useless
(no upgrade, no install, etc.). The solution is to remove
/var/lib/listaller/db/ , as described here for instance :

http://shrimpworks.za.net/2013/09/14/broken-apper-on-debian-unstablesid/

The bug is quite old (since april), but I think it could be usefull to correct
it in the Debian package. Every person who wants to upgrade from wheezy to
testing will have the problem.

Regards,

Adrien

Emphasis is mine.

Please don't be disrespectful of users running jessie/testing and... testing it
for bugs, and reporting them.

About jessie: Of the people including such information, I saw one who appeared
to run sid, the other 5 seemed to run jessie. So you're using a hyperbole
stating all these people shouldn't be running sid, and making this
better-than-thou remark that people should know the meaning of the word
'unstable'.

Let me remind you of article 4 of the Debian Social Contract:

> Our priorities are our users and free software

Again, emphasis mine.

The bug was reported in May 2012. In July 2013, *more than a year later*, you
wrote a very short reply why you were not acting, but not taking the effort to
really explain it any further. The reason remains rather unclear at that moment.
Other than that, you pretty much said nothing until now. And now you're
disrespectful of the people who keep trying to get this under your attention?
They're nagging, when they keep raising the issue because the maintainer simply
does not respond to the bug report? You might have done more if it weren't that
you're encouraging these annoying Debian users?

I understand you're looking at this from a different perspective than I am, but
I find your condescending tone very inappropriate. Especially the breeding
remark; users are not cattle, and *you* are most definitely not the farmer
owning said cattle.

I also think the remark about "people actually doing work" in particular is
offensive and highly unwanted.

Peter.

Bug#724666: live-config: Removing kwalletd.desktop file makes kwallet unusable.

2013-09-26 Thread Debian Live user
Package: live-config
Version: 3.0.23-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
Trying to create a wallet to store my passwords.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
- Started kwalletmanager and choosing File -> New wallet ...
- Provided a name and then nothing happened.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
No wallet was created and therefor couldn't use it's functionality.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
That a wallet was created and I could store my passwords in it.
If you would install ksshaskpass package that wouldn't work either,
but it doesn't work on the standard kde image downloaded from either
cdimage.debian.org or the newer one on live.debian.net (or a custom
created image).

This bug is reported from the image downloaded at:
http://live.debian.net/cdimage/release/stable+nonfree/i386/iso-hybrid/debian-live-7.1-i386-kde-desktop+nonfree.iso

To figure out what went wrong I started kwalletmanager from the command line and
this is the output of it:
user@debian:~$ kwalletmanager &

user@debian:~$ QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before
QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication.

Patch section:
- if you download the kde-runtime-data package and install the debfile with
'dpkg -i '
  the problem is resolved.
- Reinstalling the kde-runtime-data would also fix this.

With the help of the people on #debian-kde we tracked down the source of the
problem:
http://sources.debian.net/src/live-config/3.0.23-1/scripts/config/1060-kde-services?hl=68#L68
This error is also present in live-config version 4.0~a27-1:
http://sources.debian.net/src/live-config/4.0~a27-1/components/1060-kde-services?hl=71#L71

It would be my suggestion to remove all those line 'disabling unnecessary KDE
services' since
they are NOT unnecessary, break functionality in KDE and in case of those which
should prevent
akonadi from starting both ineffective (akonadi is started anyway) and unwanted
since akonadi is
an important part of the KDE(-PIM) infrastructure.

Removing those files/services is also against the philosophy of Debian Live as
described in
section 2.2.1 from the manual, especially this part:
"We will not change any packages. Whenever we need to change something, we will
do that in coordination with its package maintainer in Debian."

If you have any questions or want more information, feel free to ask.

Regards,
  Diederik

Bug#724638: mercurial-git: Incompatible with python-dulwich 0.9.1

mercurial-git implements its own SSHVendor[0], which doesn't happen to
derive from dulwich's. It just implements the interface. I'll amend my
suggested fix to have it also derive from dulwich's SSHVendor, since
that may make failures clearer in the future.

[0]: https://github.com/schacon/hg-git/blob/master/hggit/_ssh.py

Even if it had derived properly, the deprecation warning would only have
been emitted if it had already implemented a run_command method. There
was no reason for it to do so though since the code was written against
an earlier version of dulwich. Instead, NotImplementedError is raised.

The add_pack API change leads to this backtrace:

Those reload requests are done before systemd has been re-executed.

KiBi, could you check if you have similar logs in your syslog/kern.log?

I haven't quite figured out yet, what's going on/wrong here, but it looks
like in your case the newly installed generators fail when run under the
old systemd version. Why that causes the issue wrt var-run.mount is not
yet clear to me.

* Package name: bd

* URL : https://github.com/vigneshwaranr/bd
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: sh
Description : Quickly go back to a specific parent directory

Quickly go back to a specific parent directory in linux instead of typing "cd
../../.." redundantly.

If you are in this path
/home/user/project/src/org/main/site/utils/file/reader/whatever and you want to
go to site directory quickly, then just type: bd site
In fact, You can simply type bd like bd s or bd si
If there are more than one directories with same name up in the hierarchy, bd
will take you to the closest. (Not considering the immediate parent.)

Using bd within backticks (`bd `) prints out the path without
changing the current directory.
You can take advantage of that by combining `bd ` with other
commands such as ls, ln, echo, zip, tar etc..

Bug#252899: Making Terrasync just work

2013-09-26 Thread Rebecca N. Palmer
I'd consider the real issue here "turning on TerraSync by just ticking
the box should work". It currently doesn't, for several reasons:

1) The TerraSync dialog box (Environment > Scenery Download) only allows
selecting directories that are in FG_SCENERY (so the new scenery will be
read) but not FG_ROOT/Scenery (as noted above, TerraSync isn't meant to
be run there). By default, FG_SCENERY = FG_ROOT/Scenery, so there are
no directories available for selection and TerraSync hence can't be
turned on. (The dialog script then tries, and fails, to display an
error message stating this: fixed by terrasync_error_display.patch)

I suggest including the TerraSync directory in the default scenery
directories even if TerraSync is currently off, both to allow it to be
turned on from this dialog box, and to keep displaying existing
TerraSync scenery if the user later disables new downloads (e.g. because
they are running out of data allowance). This is done by
terrasync_directory.patch.

This patch does not change the default TerraSync directory (currently
$HOME/.fgfs/TerraSync, which will be created if necessary); this can
easily be changed in flightgear/src/Main/options.cxx near line 2050, but
using a shared directory (such as /var/games/flightgear/TerraSync) would
require either making all the downloaded files world-writable (which
libsvn doesn't appear to provide a way to do) or making FlightGear
setgid (allowed by Policy 11.11, but would it be a good idea
security-wise?).

2) If one uses Select Airport to go to a less-negative lat/long (e.g.
KSFO to nearly anywhere else in the Americas) the tile one is now in is
not downloaded, as the tile selection process rounds the lat/long
towards 0 but the tile names are rounded down. Fixed by
terrasync_fix_rounding.patch.

3) Select Airport does not wait for the new scenery to become available,
so to see it one has to refresh scenery (to load it) then Select Airport
again (to get to the new ground level). I don't have an actual fix for
that yet, but terrasync_document_ground_refresh.patch adds a note
stating this workaround.

These patches were tested together (in upstream 2.12rc) but should all
be independent.
Set a default TerraSync directory, so the user can turn TerraSync on by simply ticking the box.

Bug#544641: problem nailed, but how to fix?

2013-09-26 Thread Giacomo Mulas

I think I found why uswsusp is unable to resume when the swap partition is
on a lvm device, but I suspect that the problem lies with lvm2
and will have to be fixed either there or in initramfs-tools.

Essentially, when in the boot sequence scripts/local-top/lvm2 gets executed
in the ramdisk, it does not activate all available lvm devices, but rather
tries to individually activate the root device and the resume device,
calling the function activate_vg which is defined in the same script.
Now, what happens is that when activate_vg is called with a
/dev/mapper/something device as argument it works correctly; instead, when
it is given an argument "UUID=whateversensibleuuid" it fails to activate the
matching lvm partition, even if it exists in the system.

Now, since ROOT is defined by the argument provided in the kernel boot
command line, and since the grub scripts set it up to
/dev/mapper/rootvg-rootlvm, this works ok to activate the root partition.

Instead, the RESUME variable is set up in the conf/conf.d/resume
configuration file, which is magically set up by mkinitramfs to always be in
the form UUID=someuuid EVEN IF this was explicitly set in
/etc/initramfs-tools/conf/conf.d/resume as
RESUME=/dev/mapper/somecorrectlvmdevice
This happens in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/resume, which calls blkid
to translate _any_ candidate resume device found to UUID form. This is then
passed to activate_vg which fails to activate it.

Possible solutions I see:

1) The Right Thing: fix the function activate_vg in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2 so that it activates an
lvm partition which is given in the form UUID=somecorrectlvmuuid

2) not too bad kludge: add a special case in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/resume so that if a resume device is given
as /dev/mapper/something it is left alone and not forcibly translated to
UUID=correspondinguuid; this would make previously working configurations
(e.g. in which one had specified a correct RESUME line in
/etc/initramfs-tools/conf/conf.d/resume) happy again

3) atomic bomb approach: instead of going to great lengths to determine and
activate in the initramdisk only the root and resume lvm devices, just put
an unconditional
lvm vgchange -aly --ignorelockingfailure

line in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2, which will always
activate all lvm devices and be done with it.

I suggest that the uswsusp maintainer should relay this email (and/or his
own better analysis) to the maintainers of the lvm2 and initramfs-tools
packages, so that a common agreement can be found for a solution accepted by
all, which can hopefully be expected to work for some time and not be broken
time and again by some apparently unrelated change.

Bye
Giacomo

Bug#724669: gst-plugins-bad1.0: Please tighten build dependency on libopenal-dev

2013-09-26 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Source: gst-plugins-bad1.0

Hi,

I was backporting gstreamer 1.2.0 packages from Debian/sid to
Ubuntu/precise and noticed that building of OpenAL support in
gst-plugins-bad1.0 failed because stock libopenal-dev was too old
but that wasn't caught by dpkg-checkbuilddeps. Please add versioned

Bug#724668: Please add systemd-journal group by default

I'm merging this bug with the existing one (#717386).
I vaguely remember that we discussed that on IRC, and one concern that
was raised by Tollef iirc was, why we not just continue to use adm
(which systemd has used in the past). I don't think we came to a
conclusion yet, whether we should just patch systemd to use adm or
follow upstream and use a dedicated group.

Regarding your patch, you don't need the
"getent group systemd-journal" guards, adduser is clever enough to deal
with that [1].

Removing a system user on purge is another controversial topic,
especially since we don't nuke any persistent logs (should they exist).

Also, adduser is not an essential package, so the systemd package would
need a Depends: adduser.

Cheers,
Michael

tried to connect to puppet server:

WTF?

Oh yeah, openssl does not verify hostname. It's *that* awesome.

Any idea how I can add local certificate so that it's actually used?

Bug#724561: Suggesting 'linux-image' prevents auto-removal of any linux-image package

Hi Ben and Ritesh,

do we actually need the dependency? Currently if stap fails it will
guide the user to read README.Debian which will tell them to use
stap-prep which will install matching header, debug and kbuild packages.
IMHO we could just drop the suggests unless I'm missing something here.

I don't think the suggests ever guaranteed that it'd give the right
kernel version (i.e. the one that the user happens to be running)?

This explanation isn't quite right. DeprecationWarnings get raised for

ui), and dulwich tries to call a non-existent run_command on that
object, which obviously raises an AttributeError since it doesn't have
such a method.

FWIW, on Fedora/RHEL, we do not require kernel-debuginfo at the
package level, partly because we lack the debian "suggest:"
soft-dependency, but mainly because the kernel debuginfo is simply not
required for many stap tasks/scripts; see [man stapprobes].

Bug#724675: xserver-xorg-video-savage: 1:2.3.7-1 is really version 2.3.6

2013-09-26 Thread Pino Toscano
Source: xserver-xorg-video-savage
Version: 1:2.3.7-1
Severity: important

Hi,

while investigating the FTBFS of 1:2.3.7-1 on hurd-i386, I discovered
that basically this version is the orig tarball of 2.3.7... but all the
2.3.6..2.3.7 changes are reverted in the debian.diff.gz file, making it
effectively as 2.3.6.

Please fix by removing the extra differences that downgrade the driver,
and please be more careful when doing uploads.

Thanks,

Bug#724676: graphviz: build with parallel/concurrency (buildopts -j) fails

2013-09-26 Thread Jonathan Dowland
Source: graphviz
Version: 2.26.3-15
Severity: minor

The build behaviour for graphviz changes when the builder specifies concurrent
builds (e.g. -j8). In particular, the build fails. Here's the bottom bit of
output (after ./configure, up to the failure) from a pbuilder attempt (below).
Not sure if this is any help though.

I guess this is two wishlist requests: the first is to not FTBFS if -j is
specified, I guess by not supporting it. The second would be to support it ☺

Bug#691784: [Pkg-libvirt-maintainers] Bug#691784: [virt-manager] make spice optional (on !linux-{i386, amd64})

Okay, I just checked:

1. spice-common/common/bitops.h uses x86 assembly for
spice_bit_find_msb(), but a portable C implementation is provided as an
alternative.

2. spice-common/spice-protocol/spice/macros.h provides some byteswap
macros, but there are also portable C alternatives for those.

3. spice-common/spice-protocol/spice/barrier.h contains memory barrier
primitives.

I suspect micro-optimizations in the first two cases, but there are
portable alternatives, they don't hurt.

Memory barrier equivalents for other architectures can be easily found
-- in the Linux kernel tree among other places.

Cheers,

Please provide the puppet error details, if this is the actual issue of

(There are no reverse dependencies on ca-certificates by puppet packages

have a puppet install to test and don't know if this ruby module is
used, or if puppet/puppetmaster even use ca-certificates in some way)

I don't know if puppet uses the CA trust store of ca-certificates. Does it?

Did you 'update-ca-certificates' after this?

Looks ok to me. I can assume that you did run update-ca-certificates to
create the /etc/ssl/certs symlink and openssl validates ok with -CApath.

openssl s_client is only for testing, as is stated in the man page - it
worked as desired above, as far as I can tell.

Bug#724677: libegl1-mesa-dev has a useless indirect dependency to libgl1-mesa-dri

2013-09-26 Thread Mikko Rasa
Package: libegl1-mesa-dev
Version: 9.1.3-6
Severity: minor

This bug report actually concerns version 9.1.6-2+b1, the installation of which
I'm putting off due to the reason described here.

libegl1-mesa-dev depends on libegl1-mesa-drivers, which in turn depends on
libgl1-mesa-dri. This is a rather large package (55.3 M), which I do not wish
to install on a headless server that has no hardware supported by the included
drivers. You may think that on modern multi-terabyte hard disks 55 M is
nothing, but if each of the 126 -dev packages on this system depended on 55 M
of useless junk, it would quickly add up.

Please consider adjusting dependencies so that the -dev package only depends on
the stuff necessary for compiling and linking programs, and not large runtimes.

I was thinking along that line too and now that you mention too I'd even
prefer it since it wouldn't require any additional setup at all.

I know but without the guards you either have to discard adduser/deluser
output entierly or live with the:

addgroup: The group `foo' already exists as a system group. Exiting.

output. Since I like the "no news is good news" paradigm I prefer the
getent guards.

That's true. I can cleanup the patch if we go down that road but using
adm might be preferrable so patching upstream making the group
configurable would probably better spent time then.

Bug#722432: RFS: totem-plugin-arte/3.2.0-1

2013-09-26 Thread Nicolas Delvaux

Hi,

Just a kind reminder that the current totem-plugin-arte package in
Debian and Ubuntu is unusable and that this fixed version is expected by
users (I received a few mails about this).
So, is there any other issue that I should fix in the proposed package
before someone can upload it?

When it's done I will ask for a sync in Ubuntu 13.10 and I will propose
new packages with the relevant backported commits for Wheezy and old
Ubuntu releases.

Thank you for your help,
Nicolas

Bug#719889: But #719889 for websockify in the Debian tracker

2013-09-26 Thread Joel Martin
Thomas, Timo,

Websockify actually does have support for unix sockets (--unix-target).
I've never used it (it was contributed by cloud9ers) so I can't vouch for
how well it works but I'm certainly willing to take patches to make it work
better. Using Unix sockets is definitely a cleaner option than using wrap
mode/rebind. The wrap mode code was never updated to find rebind.so when
websockify is installed to distro paths. I would also take patches to
enable wrap mode to properly locate rebind.so. However, I wouldn't
encourage production use of wrap mode. It works but it's doing non-obvious
things (i.e. hard to debug) and as you suggested there are better ways of
accomplishing the equivalent thing in production.

Regards,

Joel Martin (kanaka)

Bug#723035: Asked upstream

2013-09-26 Thread Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer
I have just asked upstream [0] to see if they are willing to work towards
solving the issue directly there. I'll then act accordingly.

No problem -- and how do you feel about the other report, or more to the
point, did your discussions with upstream leave you feeling like
--without-gsettings was still desirable for the lucid and nox builds?

Thanks

Indeed, this looks fixed in 0.9.11.4, I can't reproduce it any more.

Thanks, I was getting bored to write shell loops to get several sources

That'd work too. Just that on the package metadata part, then, there's
no way to build any relationship.

Either approach is fine, as systemtap is a power user/developer tool,
when users typically know what they are installing.
I'll let you finalize and close this bug.

I was using the gtk build before (as gtk widgets are definitely nicer
than lucid), but more and more "gtk" means "gnome" nowdays, so I
switched. Since I only see widgets for the "customize" interface (as I
hide every gui element anyway), I'm actually happier with the lucid build.

I don't use gnome. I mostly use vanilla GTK and (increasingly) QT apps
when I have to. I literally have no idea how to set "gsettings" without
installing half of the gnome desktop. I'm certainly not going to use any
of these graphical tools to customize *emacs*.

Frankly, I don't see any benefit for gsettings in the lucid build. If
you don't have gnome and some application sets font settings for you,
good luck finding the right key/value with gconf. fontconfig support
with the lucid build is excellent, and Xresources have very nice
cascading properties that also apply to lucid widgets.

OK, thanks. I was planning to add --without-gsettings to the next
release -- just wanted to see if anything relevant had changed.

Bug#718401: gnome: panel does not adapt to screen resolution change

2013-09-26 Thread Michal Politowski
Followup-For: Bug #718401

Unfortunately even the 'pkill gnome-panel' "workaround" seems to work only
once for me.
The second pkill causes a 'something has gone wrong, please logout' message.

The same problem can be observed without fiddling with plugs by switching
the primary display with xrandr.

xrandr --output LVDS1 --primary
and the right-hand side of the panel is not visible on the laptop screen
(and additionally http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=605437
or something equivalent).
pkill gnome-panel; xrandr --output HDMI1 --primary
and the panel takes only part of the external monitor, with a gray strip to
the right of it.
pkill again and you have to logout.

Flightgear is not in testing. Perhaps you meant unstable (and ftp
masters)?

For reference, even if flightgear were in testing, the problem is still
with out-of-date binaries in unstable.

Strange, I was sure I replied.

I do not see why nova-compute-kvm need to depend on nova-compute in the first
place, since it only contains a single config file.
Nothing will break if it is installed without nova-compute.
If you really want, you can have nova-compute-kvm Recommends: nova-compute,
but there is not need for a Depends.
