2013-09-25 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: locate
Version: 4.4.2-6

Hello,

On my system, I have a bind mount pointing into an nfs.
/etc/cron.daily/locate does not prevent from following bind mounts, and
thus enters the nfs. bind should thus be added to PRUNEFS, to avoid
entering the nfs mount.

Hi,

ibus-anthy is currently blocking the transition because of #712575,
which the BTS believes affects 1.5.3-3. Is that actually an issue in
the current version? If not, please tell the BTS that. If yes, is
there a plan for fixing it?

Hello Ben,

systemtap would like to have the linux-image dbg packages available, for
full functionality. Currently there's no virtual package for it.
Would it make sense to introduce a virtual -dbg package ?

As the maintainer of a package that is now FTBFS'ing due to the pandoc
package split, I don't care much: I can easily upload fixed packages
with the additional build-dep.

As a pandoc user, I wonder what pandoc is useful for without its
default set of templates (shipped in the -data package), that are
needed AFAIK for a huge majority of usecases, so I would strongly
prefer to see a depends here instead of a recommends.

But I'm not the maintainer of pandoc.

Hi John,

is this with SElinux active, or some capabilities removed from root or
the postgres user? "permission denied" for port 5432 is a very unusual
error. Is 5432 what you have in the config?

You may want to do as suggested. The X server apparently has no
problem with the nouveau driver:

Do you have any real issues beside the error messages in the gdm log?

Bug#724578: bmon: No qdisc inspection

2013-09-25 Thread Cesare Leonardi
Package: bmon
Version: 1:2.1.1~pre1-1
Severity: wishlist

This package doesn't support the netlink module and, as a consequence,
bmon cannot show details about qdiscs and classes. It's a big pity,
because bmon seems to be the only small program i've found to show useful
and human readable qdisc/class statistics.

The changelog shows that you have reverted the upload of a 3.0 branch and
also the support for libnl, requested by the netlink module.
But now 3.1 is out, and seems to be supported by Red Hat: any chance to
upgrade with netlink module enabled?

Cesare.

Bug#717773: /usr/bin/gdomap: please split out gdomap or disable it by default

Version: 1.22.1-4.1

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi,

there is an effort running to replace unrar-free with unar, because
unrar-free is unmaintained upstream [1]. In the course of this effort,
it was found that replacing unrar-free with unar would pull in
gnustep-base-runtime and thus autostart the gdomap daemon on some 1
hosts [2][3].

We do not find that desireable, and I second the request of the original
poster to seperate gdomap in its own package and sugegst it from
gnustep-base-runtime or disable it by default.

Attached is a patch that disables the daemon by default. If there are no
good reasons for running the daemon by default, please apply it!

Cheers,
Nik

Bug#721600: udev rules don't get applied, resulting in incorrect device ownership

2013-09-25 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Hello Andrew,

The /etc/udev/rules.d/52-nut-usbups.rules file is not shipped by nut
packages for quite some times now (pre-squeeze) and can safely be
removed.

The nut-server.preinst was supposed to remove this file on upgrade, but
it seems that we forgot a case where the user is upgrading for the
first time after we have split the nut package into nut-client and
nut-server.

Could you please clarify which version of debian you were running
before you have upgraded to wheezy?

Cheers

That might be http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=722930.
Have you looked at that bug yet?

Bug#724579: Ipv4 multiwan routes using nexthop provokes connection breaks

2013-09-25 Thread deltasight
Package: linux-image-3.6.11+
Version: 3.6.11+
Severity: normal

Hi,

I built two multiwan debian routers with identical configuration.
The first one runs Debian 7.1 (kernel 3.2.0-4-686-pae) and the second one is
runs Raspbian 2013-09-10 (armv6l, kernel 3.6.11+ #538 PREEMPT).

The second router (armv6l) provokes connection breaks when used in a multiwan
configuration. My conf was fine with the first router.
Ping is ok but I cannot establish proper http connections from other computers
within the network.
When the router uses a single route, everything works well.

I build a multiwan route with:
ip route add default scope global nexthop via gateway1_ip dev eth0 weight 1
nexthop via gateway2_ip dev eth0:0 weight 1 nexthop via gateway3_ip dev eth0:1
weight 1

I build a single route with:
ip route add 0.0.0.0/0 via gateway1_ip dev eth0

My problem may be related to the arm version of the 3.6 kernel or iptables.
I tried to tune /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/*/rp_filter unsuccessfully.

Thank you.

I just had a closer look at the situation:

RHEL6/CentOS6 (which is getting old, RHEL7 is coming next year?) has
PostgreSQL 8.4

Red Hat "Software Collections", described on ZDNet, is offering
PostgreSQL 9.2 and appears to be a preview of what will come in RHEL7.
One post appeared on Planet PostgreSQL making a similar prediction.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS has both PostgreSQL 8.4 and 9.1

This leaves me feeling that developers of some business applications are
likely to favor those versions (9.1 or 9.2) and may not update to v9.3
as quickly as Debian would hope, for example, activity on xTuple's
forums suggests Ubuntu LTS is popular there.

Apart from the procpid issue, are there likely to be many other painful
issues with migrating apps?

Given that concurrent versions are supported on Debian, is there any
hope of keeping 9.1 as an option for people who want to build Debian
systems that are more in sync with commercial distributions?

Hi, did you start working on it? If so, is it publicly available somewhere?
I've started a package for my personal use, but as I wasn't sure it would
be useful to others and that I've got increasingly limited free time, I
haven't filed an ITP.

Anyway, I've attached my current debian.tar.gz if it can be of any help.

Yes, you can install them from apt.postgresql.org, but they won't be
supported for as long as jessie or the upcoming Ubuntu 14.04 LTS; only
as long as they receive upstream support.

Further debugging reveals that is a C call stack overflow caused by
save_len.

"""
static int
eexec_line(unsigned char *line, int line_len)
{
[...]
if (save_len) {
append_save(line, line_len);
line = save;
line_len = save_len;
}
[...]
}
"""

In the above, if you insert two fprintfs to print the "before and after"
values of line_len and save_len, it will show that (before) line_len is
0 and save_len is 40. At the end of the blog, both line_len and
save_len is 40. This process repeats itself (with exactly those values)
by hitting the "not_charstring" case (or label) and then recursing into
itself by giving line_len with value 0.

Example (partial) output caused inserting some fprintfs (see attached
patch):

"""
save_len (before): 34, after: 40
line_len (before): 6, after: 40
2 index /CharStrings 179 dict dup begin

line_len: 40, len: 40, n: 21
save_len (before): 40, after: 40
line_len (before): 0, after: 40
2 index /CharStrings 179 dict dup begin

[...]

line_len: 40, len: 40, n: 21
save_len (before): 40, after: 40
line_len (before): 0, after: 40
2 index /CharStrings 179 dict dup begin

line_len: 40, len: 40, n: 21
save_len (before): 40, after: 40
line_len (before): 0, after: 40
2 index /CharStrings 179 dict dup begin
"""

The "2 index /CharStrings 179 dict dup begin" is the text can keeps
being revived (and is printed by t1disasm naturally).

I am not sure that fixing this is as simple as setting save_len to 0 (it
might be, but I don't know the code nor the expected output well enough
to say it is). However, setting it to 0 does stop the "infinite
recursion" (but I guess that wasn't much of a surprise).

Thank you for the report. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this issue
in a sid pbuilder chroot on amd64, even when no network interfaces are
configured. Is there anything particular about the environment you're
building in?

standard_conforming_strings defaults to 'on' in 9.2+, just like the
pg_stat_activity was already changed in 9.2.

Given that 9.2 has been around for a year (plus the beta period before
that), there's little excuse for applications not to have been fixed
yet.

You could use wheezy, it has 9.1. (Or apt.postgresql.org as Martin
said.)

Actually, what I really tried to install was the "oauth" package which
AFAICS isn't in debian, and oauth has a dependency on luasec. I just
used luasec for the bug report because it was a bit more concise... :]

Sorry for the lack of information but a new version is currently in the

It is, for now, packaged here:

It would be nice if you could review this work and applies your changes

Bug#724543: at-spi2-core: Hold on 2.10 version until atk1.0 2.10.0 hits unstable

2013-09-25 Thread Michael Biebl
Hi Samuel,

looks like at-spi2-core built just fine against the older atk1.0 version
in unstable. So it's only the amd64 package which was built in a tainted
environment and picked up a dependency on libatk1.0 2.10.0 which doesn't
exist in Debian yet, even experimental (I assume this package was
locally built on your system)

That said, this could easily be fixed by binNMUing atk-spi2-core for amd64.
Or does at-spi2-core not work properly if it runs with libatk1.0-0 < 2.10 ?

That just means the kernel radeon driver didn't initialize with KMS. We

Bug#724582: message should mention other solutions to 'dpkg was interrupted'

2013-09-25 Thread jidanni
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.17.1
Severity: wishlist

This message assumes the user wants to continue the operation:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct
the problem.

But there is also a good chance the reason dpkg was interrupted was due
to the user purposely interrupting it in order to back out of what he
was doing.

Therefore the message should also mention what to do in that case.

Here's a scenario:
User does
aptitude safe-upgrade
says Yes
then realizes that what is about to happen is not what he wants.
He hits ^C, but that is ignored (by design. OK.)
He goes to another window and does killall aptitude.
Now when he does aptitude safe-upgrade again he gets
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct
the problem.
W: Could not lock the cache file; this usually means that dpkg or another apt
tool is already installing packages. Opening in read-only mode; any changes
you make to the states of packages will NOT be preserved!
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct
the problem.

So perhaps add "Or try dpkg -i Current.deb on any half installed packages
(found by dpkg -l) that you don't want to upgrade to New.deb" or
something like that.

Bug#724583: vdr-plugin-epgsearch: Lots of "sh: 0: Illegal option -" in /tmp/vdr-err.*

2013-09-25 Thread Petr Kiss
Package: vdr-plugin-epgsearch
Version: 1.0.1~beta3-5
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

during last few weeks I have noticed that in /tmp/vdr-err.* there were lots of
"sh: 0: Illegal option -" messages. It is probably caused by using non existing
"/usr/lib/vdr/svdrpsend.pl" in /usr/lib/vdr/svdrpsend.pl. After I replaced it
with "/usr/bin/svdrpsend", /tmp/vdr-err.* is without these messages.

Bug#724584: Symlink to fonts-liberation instead of ttf-liberation

2013-09-25 Thread Saikrishna Arcot
Package: flightgear-data
Version: 2.10.0-3

The flightgear-data package has a dependency on fonts-liberation, but
the symlink is pointing to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-liberation
(whose files are symlinked to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/liberation),
which is actually in ttf-liberation. With this, flightgear fails to
start. The symlink should instead point to
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/liberation.

As a temporary workaround, ttf-liberation has to be manually installed.

Bug#724585: proot: Do not bind-mount the host system when giving the -q option

2013-09-25 Thread Johannes Schauer
Package: proot
Version: 3.0.2-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

when giving the -q option, proot currently automatically bind-mounts the
host rootfs into /host-rootfs. This functionality only exists for the
convenience of being able to also execute binaries of the host system at
the same time. But it is otherwise completely unnecessary for qemu-user
mode operation to have the host rootfs bind-mounted into /host-rootfs.

Attached, find a patch which moves this functionality from the -q option
into the -t option and which lets the -Q option be an alias for -t as
well.

cheers, josch

After perl and/or gtk2-perl update tyinyca started to sometimes generate
certificates with options other than specified in the new certificate window.
Affected options were controlled via radio buttons - digest, algorithm and key
lenght

After some investigation it turned out that the callback bound to 'toggled'
signal was firing twice (presumably one for unchecking and one for checking the
radio button) resulting in a race condition. The attached patch checks if the
radio button is being set to active before assigning value to certificate
options. Since GUI::_fill_radiobox() seems to be generic this might result in
mangling other options controlled via radio buttons as well.

Bug#693282: gajim: CVE-2012-5524

2013-09-25 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Package: gajim

Dear maintainer,

Recently you fixed one or more security problems and as a result you closed
this bug. These problems were not serious enough for a Debian Security
Advisory, so they are now on my radar for fixing in the following suites
through point releases:

squeeze (6.0.8) - use target "oldstable"

Please prepare a minimal-changes upload targetting each of these suites,
and submit a debdiff to the Release Team [0] for consideration. They will
offer additional guidance or instruct you to upload your package.

I will happily assist you at any stage if the patch is straightforward and
you need help. Please keep me in CC at all times so I can
track [1] the progress of this request.

For details of this process and the rationale, please see the original
announcement [2] and my blog post [3].

- After the most recent upgrade, all the settings to the date/time applet were
lost.

month.

Cheer,
Chris.

This is not a dpkg message, that's coming from (lib)apt.

I'll let the apt maintainers decide if that's appropriate, by
reassigning the bug report to them.

This looks a lot like the following upstream issue (there are duplicates
mentioned in this thread):

https://github.com/owncloud/core/issues/2137

Do you have external (not from the owncloud package) apps activated?

Can you deactivate (preferably one at a time) the apps and restart the
update via the web interface. If it works at one moment, please report
the problematic app if possible.

Regards

David

I assume this enables single-stepping.

I can reproduce this in VMs running the latest Debian RT kernel versions
(based on 3.2.51-rt72, and on 3.10.11 with the 3.10.10-rt7 patch).

As Brian says, x86_64 userland on x86_64 kernel works, and similarly for
i386 on i386. So it is specifically the 'compat' case that's broken.

Here's what I got:

Hello Sylvestre,

Sorry for the delay, but I remember that some build-dependencies can't be
fulfilled in Debian, since they mostly depend on elementary stuff...

This would result in the same sort of problem. But I could add a
metapackage built from linux-latest, so that the -dbg package gets
updated at each ABI change.

Unforunately I could not follow up on the issue anymore because I had to
get my systems back into a running state.

If nobody else can reproduce it on Debian, then it is possible that the
issue was indeed related to Ubuntu only or the specific kernel version used
there. So this bug can probably be closed.

That'd help. Please let us know the metapackage name, on this bug

Bug#724594: duplicity: the --extra-clean option broke valid backup, not possible restore all data.

2013-09-25 Thread Gabriel CORRE
Package: duplicity
Version: 0.6.22-1
Severity: important

Hello,

This bug is about the behavior of the --extra-clean option.

The man page speaks about deleting extraneous files and cleaning failed session.

$ man duplicity
   cleanup [--force] [--extra-clean]
Delete the extraneous duplicity files on the given backend.
Non-duplicity files, or files in complete data sets will not be
deleted.
This should only be necessary after a duplicity
session fails or is aborted prematurely.

The bug appends in case of usual successful backup.

Commands used
=

My daily backup is like this :

   # target_url=rsync://root@remoteserver//path/to/storage/
[1] (root)# duplicity incr --full-if-older-than 30D /path/to/data/ $target_url

[2] (root)# duplicity collection-status $target_url

[3] (root)# duplicity remove-all-but-n-full 2 --force $target_url
[4] (root)# duplicity cleanup --extra-clean --force $target_url

[5] (root)# duplicity collection-status $target_url

I.e.: I do daily incremental backups, with 1 full backup per month.
And keep 2 months of backup.

Duplicity version
=

The bug was found on debian/wheezy(stable) with duplicity version
0.6.18-3(wheezy)
Also reproduced with lastest duplicity version 0.6.22-1(sid)

The issue
=

Everything seems fine.
If you list available backup data (with collection-status) the last 2 months
will be shown.

It's ok when you :
 - restore the lastest backup
 - restore data in the last backup chain (the last full backup)

It fail when you try to :
 - restore data outside the current backup chain (before the last full backup)
the restore command fallbacks to the last chain :
No signature chain for the requested time. Using oldest available
chain, starting at time Fri Sep 13 04:32:24 2013.
even older valid data are still available :
Found 1 secondary backup chain.
Secondary chain 1 of 1:
-
Chain start time: Tue Aug 13 04:46:55 2013
Chain end time: Thu Sep 12 04:40:35 2013

Origin of the issue
===

I supposed the "cleanup --extra-clean" will remove valid signature,
and broke the capacity to restore valid backup data (with the duplicity restore
command)

Ugly workaround
===

The previous backup chains data still exist. But the restore command refuses to
use them.
If you manually remove all duplicity files that are the last backup chain,
duplicity restore uses the latest chain available (with warning about signature)
and you will be able to restore your backuped data.

Hi Charles,

If you aren't available, I will sponsor the upload. As a wss4j user,
I'd like to see it remain in Debian. It's one of those libraries that I
think Debian needs to have in order to be a legitimate Java platform.

Actually, the "after a while" part corresponds to me switching off
radio and doesn't seem to happen by itself. And only 4 "Device removed"
events occur (no loop in output). I misinterpreted, sorry. pcscd is
still using 100% CPU after switching off radio, though.

Since all these packages are build from the same source package,
there is no justification to generate 5 packages that need to
be installed at once. At worse, just merge them to a single
one that Provides the others.

Bug#724596: libhtml-element*: synopsys is not very informative

2013-09-25 Thread Bill Allombert
Package: libhtml-element-extended-perl
Version: 1.18-1
Severity: minor

Hello Don,
The syopsys of this package is

Description-en: extended HTML::Element classes
A package of several enhanced HTML::Element classes, most of which
arose during the effort to implement an HTML::Element based table
 class.

This is not informatve unless one already know what is HTML::Element,
especially since there is no other libhtml-element-*-perl package in Debian.

Cheers,

Upstream has already a bugreport for this:

There is already a package for libmemcached-1.0.17-1 in experimental. To ease
the transition into unstable I've attached a patch to fix those errors.

Description: Adapt to libmemcached API >= 1.0.9
libmemcached introduces an API break with 1.0.9 by renaming structs and
introducting accessor functions. This patch adds preprocessor conditionals to
used the different APIs depending on the version of libmemcached.
This patch is based on the pull-request from Faidon Liambotis (paravoid).

2013-09-25 Thread frydo
Package: ibus-table-latex
Version: 1.3.0.20100528-3

Justification: renders package unusable

It's not possible to switch to latex input method in Ibus.
I can have the Hangul input method, but not the latex input method.

I guess this comes from a recent update, maybe one of ibus-table.

Bug#718473: pcscd: 100% CPU usage

Actually, the "after a while" part corresponds to me switching off
radio and doesn't seem to happen by itself. And only 4 "Device removed"
events occur (no loop in output). I misinterpreted, sorry. pcscd is
still using 100% CPU after switching off radio, though.

You do:
 1. Switch off wireless (using the hardware button)
 2. Suspend
 3. Resume
 4. Switch on wireless

Does pcscd uses 100% CPU at this step?

Then you do:
 5. switch off radio
you get 4 "Device removed" messages from pcscd and then nothing more. pcscd
becomes quiet.
Exact?

And pcscd uses 100% CPU but without logging anthing. Exact?

Can you run: "udevadm monitor" in another terminal and then try to
reproduce the problem using the 4 steps?
Send me the output of the command.

When I switch on radio, I get:

Bug#685403: No sound coming in

2013-09-25 Thread Markus Hiereth
Dear Maintainers,

i have installed the same linphone Package 3.5.2-10 and recieved the
mentioned error messages in line 2 and 3 :

linphone

(linphone:3811): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find signal handler
'linphone_gtk_display_wizard'

(linphone:3811): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not load image 'linphone2.png': Datei

I am able to establish connections and to receive calls. But I do not
get any sound from the communication partner. The respective sound
level bar on the right remains in zero position. I conclude from the
error message about ALSA that I is not me who is not able to come to
the right soundcard settings. I would appreciate a few words about
what to do.

Yours sincerely

It turns out my setting of preferences to "opt out" of broken redirection of
nonexistent host names to a web search (HTTP only) had expired again. When I
re-disabled it to fix DNS to properly return host not found errors, the build
failure went away. So, feel free to downgrade the severity of this bug.

Is it certain 4096 is enough, or will we hit this again in the future?

Anyway, the stable diff looks sane enough (especially given the diff
between 0.3-2 and 0.3-3 ;)).

No, that's related to changes in Linux 3.10:

See https://lwn.net/Articles/549737/

| create_proc_entry()/create_proc_read_entry() are killed off; use
proc_create().

This has already been fixed in upstream trunk:
http://sourceforge.net/p/iscsitarget/code/496/

You could pull the fix for the sid package.

Cheers,
Moritz

Bug#724602: dnsmasq: Please enable systemd unit on install and fix it

2013-09-25 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Package: dnsmasq
Version: 2.66-4
Severity: normal

dnsmasq currently does not enable its systemd unit in postinst. It should
probably use dh-systemd.

The systemd service should also not rely on the init.d script.

I CCed pkg-systemd-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org as mbiebl
requested. You (maintainer) probably want to CC them as well in
your reply (I set Reply-To, but I'm not sure how debbugs overwrites
this).

Excellent. It wasn't very hard indeed. I backported them and commited
the patches in the VCS.

However, I am waiting for the -9 to transite to testing before uploading

Bug#724603: live-boot: BOOTIF option not used & dependant on NETBOOT being empty

2013-09-25 Thread Ricky Chan

Package: live-boot
Version: 3.0.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

1. BOOTIF option not used.
in file: 9990-networking.sh, line 57 there should be this change:
DEVICE=${device##*/}
change to
ETHDEVICE=${device##*/}

As you can see by the subsequent logic, it will basically ignore this
setting and on a multi-interface

system possibily use the wrong interface to do ipconfig.

2. For BOOTIF to be used, it must pass (on line 15 of 9990-networking.sh):q!

if [ -z "${NETBOOT}" ] && [ -z "${FETCH}" ] && [ -z "${HTTPFS}"
] && [ -z "${FTPFS}" ]
This will mean typical FAI setup's will as typically root will be set to
root=/dev/nfs and in the script's this will always set

NETBOOT to nfs and hence BOOTIF won't be used.
BOOTIF should be considered even if NETBOOT is not empty.

By making these modification I can confirm typical FAI setup are working
where multiple network interface exists.

Bug#723582: Bug#724324: RFS: metar/0.2-1 ITP

2013-09-25 Thread Tobias Frost
Hallo Fernando,

I saw on mentors that you've uploaded a new version and commented there:
> Do i need to throw a new RFS?
No, you just send a mail to 723...@bugs.debian.org

I already took a look this morning, here you go:

-> Do NOT override binary-without-manpage --> You need to write a manpage
-> Do NOT override description-synopsis-might-not-be-phrased-properly --> You
need to fix your description in d/control
-> You made a native package. That is wrong. What you need to do is in the
description of native-package-with-dash-version (namely making
debian/source/format to contain "3.0 (quilt)")
-> You need also to rename the source-package.

I see some still some other problems with the package, like the source-package
name cannot be metar. Also you do not need to make the directory structure
under mcode ... Just put your two files in the root directory and let do
debhelper do all the magic. E.g it will automatically detect the copyright file
and will install it into the right directory. This is why the duplicate-files
error shows up: You are not doing it correctly...
So your "upstream tar" should have just this file tree:
metar-0.2/copyright
metar-0.2/metar

(ignoring that you cannot name your executeable meetar)
No usr/ in there. The debian *.install will be the place where to specify where
put the executeable, copyright will be automatically detected and installed
correctly.

Eric noted also that metar in the archives does the same thing.
Usually it should be avoided to have two packages doing the same thing unless
there are other advantages to the users.
But maybe you can convince us that your version is superior?

Best regards,
coldtobi

Bug#661591: Does not apply to ifupdown-extra

2013-09-25 Thread Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña
Control: affects 661591 - ifmetric

I have reviewed the ifupdown-extra scripts and they exit with 0 for success
and 1 on error.

The exit on error is only done on some specific cases (when the user has
asked it this way) so the scripts should not have any issues with ifupdown
now using run-parts.

Bug#724539: RFS: psocksxx/0.0.1-1 [ITP]

2013-09-25 Thread Tobias Frost
Hallo Uditha,

(I'm not a DD/DM... Also quite new to reviewing)

Thanks for your work, however there is already a iostream based socket
library in Debian: libskstream. So maybe you can elaborate a little why
you think this library is a must in Debian :) (like reverse
dependencies...)

The package itself looks quite good, just a few remarks (I did not build
the package, just a paper-review)

d/control you libpsocksxx0 Provides: libpsocksxx. I think that is wrong,
as the so-name will be important when installing the library later. (But
I could be wrong here)

I think it is depreciated to install *.la files.

You should enable multiarch-support

Maybe you'd like also to provide a -doc package with the generated
doxygen documentation.

Please be aware: Buildd's do not have necessarily have networking, not
even lo is guaranteed. So you might want to disable (parts of) your
testsuite which relies on networking

Best regards,
coldtobi

Any chance you might be able to test with emacs24-lucid (you should be
able to just install that to replace emacs24, and then switch back
afterward).

Though I don't know if it's applicable here, there are (or were) some
known problems in GTK+ that can cause problems with frames.

Running under Lucid made the problem go away, yes.

Bug#724610: incrementally updated databases eventually become corrupt

2013-09-25 Thread Joey Hess
Package: libsearch-xapian-perl
Version: 1.2.10.0-1
Severity: normal

ikiwiki's search plugin incrementally updates a xapian index as a wiki
is edited. Certian of my larger wikis tend to corrupt themselves every
month or two, preventing xapian-omega from finding anything.
xapian-check says there is a btree error.

I see this frequently on my main ikiwiki server. But I've heard from
others who have also had this kind of corruption elsewhere so I don't
think it's bad hardware. (I've also migrated my main ikiwiki server to
new hardware at least twice in the years since I started experiencing
this problem.)

It used to be the case that this could cause
Search::Xapian::WritableDatabase->new to throw an exception, as seen
here:

http://www.branchable.com/bugs/Exception:_Cannot_open_tables_at_consistent_revisions_at___47__usr__47__lib__47__perl5__47__Search__47__Xapian__47__WritableDatabase.pm_line_41./#comment-c159ea3f9be35fcd9ed0eeedb162e816

I have not seen that behavior since upgrading to wheezy. Now when the
database is corrupt, further changes to it don't cause a crash (which is
good); xapian-omega just never finds any matches.

ikiwiki calls methods like add_term and replace_document_by_term and
delete_document_by_term. It may be exercising the incremental update
of xapian databases more frequently than is typical and exposing some
bug. It's also the only thing in Debian that seems to use this perl
library, so it could be that the bug in in this library and not in
xapian itself.

I suppose it's possible that the bug is in ikiwiki. For example, it
could be that two ikiwiki processes end up manipulating the same xapian
database concurrently. I don't know if that is allowed, or likely to
corrupt it. But ikiwiki is supposed to use a lock to prevent two processes
from both making stateful changes at the same time, and I have audited
it and cannot find anywhere that it updates the xapian database without
first taking that lock.

I also wonder if this could be a problem with the flushing of the
database. Ikiwiki relies on the automatic flushing behavior, and assumes
that the database will be closed and flushed automatically when the
xapian database object is destroyed at program termination. It also
could be the case that ikiwiki sometimes crashes, and this could
interfere with that.
