Please check /u/s/doc/libvirt-bin/README.Debian and
http://wiki.debian.org/libvirt/Debugging on howto hopefully track this
down.

That said I'm not sure in what shape Wheezy's libvirt+xen support is
since I'm not testing (yet) auto testing this combination at all (there
are other xen related open bugs waiting for test and feedback).

Please have a look at the version in experimental since this one is much
more up to date.

Cheers,

The postinst script of dahdi starts the service dahdi, which in turn
loads all kernel modules listed in /etc/dahdi/modules .

Do you have any dahdi modules installed?

Do you have any DAHDI hardware?

Workaround: move that file aside.

I wonder if we should change the default of that file to be generated by
running 'dahdi_genconf modules' in the postinst script.

Bug#706061: opendkim: Suggest creating /etc/opendkim/ (or equivalent) directory to store configuration files

2013-04-24 Thread Phil
Package: opendkim
Version: 2.8.2-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

The README file was not prescriptive about where to place the configuration
files.
It did say what the ownership, etc, of the files/directory should be.
So I placed them in /etc/mail/dkim/
In recent versions of opendkim, I've been experiencing errors such as this:
"key data is not secure: /etc/mail is writeable and owned by uid 100 which is
not the executing uid (117) or the superuser"
The directory /etc/mail/dkim has the correct ownership and permissions, but the
parent directory /etc/mail does not.
I can work around the problem by changing the ownership of /etc/mail to root.
(but need to be careful, because I think /usr/sbin/sendmailconfig will change
it back.)

I feel that if a configuration directory was created by the installer, all users
could write their files there as well as the opendkim.conf file. The installer
could ensure the directory had the correct ownership and access permissions, so
this error would not affect anyone else. I suggest: /etc/opendkim/

What do you think?

Bug#705917: pbuilder: Add basic DEP-8 autopkgtest

2013-04-24 Thread James Hunt
Updated debdiff attached that makes the following changes:

* debian/tests/build_procenv: Aligned with sbuild DEP-8 script:
  - Use appropriate archive based on distribution.
  - Build package for specified distribution (stable for debian to
ensure chroot is creatable).
  - Download package source for specified release.
  - Only install build .deb if host environment matches the release the
package was built for.
  - Perform basic checks on built .dep in case it is not possible to
install it.
* debian/tests/control: Add distro-info and lsb-release dependencies.

Adding breaks-testbed stops this test running in the Ubuntu test environment so
I'd like to understand further how this option is used (or is intended to be
used) in Debian.

Kind regards,

James.

Okay, I've upgraded libvirt to experimental, and there is a slight
improvement - virsh no longer complains about the connection string syntax,
and instead the error is pushed further along to where it actually gets
used:

root@mordac:/home/michael# virsh -c xen:///var/run/xend/xend.sock
Welcome to virsh, the virtualization interactive terminal.

Type: 'help' for help with commands
   'quit' to quit

virsh # list

error: failed to connect to the hypervisor
error: no valid connection
error: no connection driver available for /var/run/xend/xend.sock

One thing that leapt out of the debug logs is that experimental's libvirt
doesn't seem to be loading xen support:

Reply-To: bnfc-...@googlegroups.com
List-ID:

Dear all,

I am pleased to announce the release of bnfc version 2.5.0 which is now
available for download on the bnfc website. http://bnfc.digitalgrammars.com/
This version does not introduce any major changes but is the version that
correspond to the book “Implementing Programming Languages” by Aarne Ranta (
http://www.digitalgrammars.com/ipl-book/)

One important change is that the code is now officially hosted github (
https://github.com/BNFC) which will hopefully make it easier for anyone
interested to contribute to the source (or the website). There is also an
official issue tracker
(https://github.com/BNFC/bnfc/issues)

to report problems or request new features.

Thanks and do not hesitate to ask if you have further questions.

Bug#705972: package qupzilla: bugs ITP 657791 and ITP 705972 have different owners

2013-04-24 Thread Mònica Ramírez Arceda
Hi,

There was already another ITP for qupzilla (#657791), although it's an old one
and may be abandoned. Could you contact Mohammed Sameer
and ask him/her if he/she wants to abandon or co-maintain this package with you?

Once you've done this, you should set the right owner in both bugs and merge
them.

Thanks for your work!

I think it doesn't make sense packaging npm within nodejs,
- they are very different software
- npm depends on many other modules, nodejs doesn't
- the packaging work is very different

There is still work to do on npm dependencies. Some of them
should better be left bundled in npm (because they are so bound
to npm and better alternatives exist, or because nobody would
use them anyway).

I'll have some time to finish this job next month. If you can
help before, we can talk on #debian-js.

Bug#706063: btrfs-convert: missing --verbose or --progress option

Hi,

btrfs-convert takes a long time creating metadata. Wouldn't it be

Bug#706064: btrfs-convert: multi-core support wanted

2013-04-24 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Package: btrfs-tools
Version: 0.19+20120328-7.1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

according to top the btrfs-convert is cpu bound on my system:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
 5784 root 20 0 307m 295m 868 R 99.6 10.2 13:34.00 btrfs-convert

But it uses only about half the possible disk IO. Using multiple cores
could multiply its speed.

Bug#698064: Getting aranym 0.9.15-1 to wheezy

Could you please consider getting 0.9.15-1 instead?

What we could consider is a 0.9.13-3.1+deb7u1 upload via
testing-proposed-updates, containing just the RC fix on top of the
current wheezy package. In that case we'd like to see a debdiff to
confirm first though.

I see you've uploaded a 0.9.13-4 package, without providing a debdiff
as requested.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look suitable, as it's dropped all of the
changes between -3 and -3.1 (which is the version in testing). This
leads to an overall diff relative to the current testing package of

Please could you prepare a -5 package which fixes the reverted changes?
The debdiff between -3.1 and -5 should then only contain your new patch
and the associated series and changelog updates.

Scanning unknown block devices can have ugly side effects,
e.g. when using drbd. On the standby the partition looks
idle, but it is not.

Would it be possible to provide a way to suppress
the unwanted scan at install/reconfigure time?

Please reopen; this issue is still unresolved.

Bug#602034: jpeg8 vs jpeg-turbo

2013-04-24 Thread Ondřej Surý
Hi Bill and Debian Developers,

while doing work on GD Library 2.1.0 it was discovered there's
encoding incompatibility introduced by libjpeg8/9 [1]. While doing
further research I have found that Fedora has switched to
libjpeg-turbo[2] (for reasoning please read the referred email).
Ubuntu (and Steam) is also using libjpeg-turbo as base jpeg library.
SuSE has also switched to libjpeg-turbo some time ago (just had a
quick chat with it's maintainer).

Debian has already open ITP[3] #602034 for libjpeg-turbo, which
support libjpeg62 API/ABI and also some important bits of libjpeg8. As
libjpeg is one of the base libraries of the system, I think it might
be a good idea to discuss this project wide. Also although I have an
opinion (as you might have guessed from this email) that we should try
to be aligned with other distributions and the reasoning for not going
for , I will be happy with whatever result will end-up.

My proposal is:
A. Add libjpeg-turbo to Debian archive (that's easy)
B. Add required provides/alternatives for libjpeg62-dev and
libjpeg8-dev (where API/ABI match)
C. Decide which package should provide default libjpeg-dev library

Bug#705794: [ITR] templates://squid-deb-proxy/{squid-deb-proxy.templates}

2013-04-24 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English
localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf
templates used in squid-deb-proxy.

This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with
users and its aims are:
- to improve the use of English in all debconf templates;
- to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent;
- to encourage more translations of templates.

Even if your first language is English, this process is likely to help
track down typos or errors, and improve consistency between the
debconf templates of your package and that of other packages in the
distribution.

The process involves both debian-l10n-english contributors and
Debian translators.

The details of the process are given in
http://wiki.debian.org/I18n/SmithDebconfReviewProcess.

I will act as the coordinator of this activity for squid-deb-proxy.

The first step of the process is to review the debconf source
template file(s) of squid-deb-proxy. This review will start on Saturday, April
27, 2013, or
as soon as you acknowledge this mail with an agreement for us to
carry out this process.

All parts of the process will be carried out in close collaboration
with you, and, unless you explicitely ask for it, no upload nor NMU
will happen for squid-deb-proxy.

If you approve this process, please let us know by replying to this
mail. If some work in progress on your side would conflict with such a
rewrite (such as adding or removing debconf templates), please say so,
and we will defer the review to later in the development cycle.

Thank you for your attention.

Here's a patch (again built against raring-proposed, but should work
against experimental) which includes GHC 7.6 fixes (written by me; not
upstream - hopefully you can forward?) and a backport of some upstream
commits for new libgc.

Cheers,

Bug#706065: libvte-2.90-common: /etc/profile.d/vte.sh is not sourced by interactive shells

2013-04-24 Thread Fabian Greffrath
Package: libvte-2.90-common
Version: 1:0.34.3-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

currently, the /etc/profile.d/vte.sh file is not sourced by interactive shells,
e.g. the one started by gnome-terminal. However, that file defines a function
that is required to keep the working directory when opening new tabs in gnome-
terminal (with "export PS1='\[$(__vte_ps1)\]'$PS1" in ~/.bashrc). Ideally, that
file would have to go into a /etc/bash.bashrc.d directory, but that currently
does not exist. Anyway, the way it currently is, that file is useless and in
order to keep the working directory in new tabs in gnome-terminal one has to
configure it to run a login shell, which is not what I want.

 - Fabian

Bug#706066: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome: new upstream version available

2013-04-24 Thread Andres Salomon
Package: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome
Version: 1:0.2.906-2
Severity: wishlist

The openchrome 0.2.906 driver is utterly useless on an OLPC XO-1.5.
There are various rendering bugs, and will frequently hang the system.
It's not worth filing an RC bug about, as I'm not sure older versions
of the driver ever worked properly on this platform.

xf86-video-openchrome-0.3.2 is available upstream. I upgraded the
debian package to this version (dropping
debian/patches/10-Deal-with-xserver-1.12.diff and rediffing
debian/patches/kbsd-types-madness.diff), and it is behaving
wonderfully. No more rendering bugs or machine hangs.

It would be great to have 0.3.2 in Debian (experimental, unstable,
whatever). Thanks!

Because I believe I have better things to do with my time, and since
it's my free time I get to decide what to do with it. If you want to
volunteer to test our X server with fglrx, more power to you, but you
can't insist on us doing that work, that's not how debian or free

  Upstream Author : Thomas Kellerer
* URL : http://www.sql-workbench.net
* License : Apache License, Version 2.0
  Programming Lang: Java
  Description : A free, DBMS-independent, cross-platform SQL tool

SQL Workbench/J was recently licensed as Apache 2.0, and is a fantastic
and versatile tool for working with SQL databases. Features:

 - Display result data from SQL queries (Screenshot)
 - Edit, insert and delete data directly in the result table (Screenshot)
 - Powerful export command to write text files (aka "CSV"), XML, HTML or SQL
(including BLOB data).
 - All user tables can be exported into a directory with a single command.
Export files can be compressed "on-the-fly".
 - Powerful text and XML file import. A set of files (including compressed
files) can be imported from a directory with a single command. Foreign key
constraints are detected to insert the data in the correct order
 - Compare two database schemas for differences. The XML output can be
transformed into the approriate SQL ALTER statements using XSLT
 - Compare the data of two database and generate the necessary SQL statements
to migrate one to the other.
 - Reformatting (Pretty-Print) of SQL Statements (Screenshot)
 - Full support for BLOB data in query results, SQL statements, export and
import. Read more...
 - Select rows from related tables according to their foreign key definitions
(Screenshot1 Screenshot2).
 - Search text in procedure, view and other sources using a SQL command or a
GUI (Screenshot)
 - Search for data across all columns in all tables using a SQL command or a
GUI (Screenshot)
 - Copy data directly between to database servers using a SQL command or a GUI
(Screenshot)
 - Macros (aka aliases) for frequently used SQL statements
 - Variable substitution in SQL statements including smart prompting for values
(can be combined with macros)
 - Auto completion for tables and columns in SQL statements (Screenshot)
 - Tooltips for INSERT statements to show the corresponding value or column
(Screenshot)
 - All SQL Scripts (including Workbench specific commands) can be run in batch
mode
 - An interactive console mode (Screenshot)
 - Display database objects and their definitions (Screenshot)
 - Display table source (Screenshot)
 - Display view, procedure and trigger source code (Screenshot)
 - Display foreign key constraints between tables (Screenshot)
 - SQLWorkbench/J is free ( published under the Apache 2.0 license)

Yes, they should.

The test is

if ((prev_acl = acl_get_fd(fdcurr)) == NULL) {
if (errno != ENOTSUP) {
message(MESS_ERROR, "getting file ACL %s: %s\n",
currLog, strerror(errno));

and your kernel is responding with ENOSYS instead. This contradicts
the manpage acl_get_fd(3):

[ENOTSUP] The file system on which the file identified by fd is
located does not support ACLs, or ACLs are disabled.

Upstream haven't spotted this, so I'll fix the logic in the next upload...

we don't call pam-auth-update during install, so why should we call it during
uninstall?

~/debian-edu/src/wheezy/debian-edu-config$ rgrep pam-auth-update *|grep -v

Bug#602034: jpeg8 vs jpeg-turbo

2013-04-24 Thread Mike Gabriel

Hi Ondřej,

I have just uploaded libjpeg-turbo to Debian and it still hovers in NEW [1].

On Mi 24 Apr 2013 11:23:04 CEST Ondřej Surý wrote:

Debian has already open ITP[3] #602034 for libjpeg-turbo, which

In an IRC discussion in #debian-devel several weeks ago the consensus
was: the RT team (represented Julien) will probably not want two
libjpeg implementations in Debian. My first packaging approach aimed
at having the compat mode libraries available [2] and allow the user
to install them as a drop-in replacement for libjpeg8.

The IRC discussion lead to the result that the compat packages are not
wanted in Debian, only the native TURBOjpeg ABI. I was asked to ping
Bill Allombert about his opinion to transition from libjpeg8 fully to
libjpeg8-turbo. @Bill: can you repeat your disposition here again? I
guess our earlier mailing was a private mail exchange.

A. Add libjpeg-turbo to Debian archive (that's easy)

Done. Waiting in NEW. Only containing libturbojpeg.so.1

B. Add required provides/alternatives for libjpeg62-dev and
libjpeg8-dev (where API/ABI match)

A packaging example can be seen in [1]. If the packages disappears
from the NEW queue, you can also obtain a libjpeg-turbo version with
compat packages provided here [3].

C. Decide which package should provide default libjpeg-dev library

Last statement from Bill: libjpeg by IJG

Greets,
Mike

Bug#706069: virt-manager 0.9.1 hangs on "create new VM" over network connexion with 22 images within an active pool

2013-04-24 Thread Mathieu Desnoyers
Package: virt-manager
Version: 0.9.1-4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When using virt-manager through ssh network connexion (120ms latency),
with about 22 volumes in an active pool, virt-manager "create new VM"
window hangs after about 5 seconds of interaction. While it is hung, the
remote libvirt-bin server issues a lot of stat/open system calls on the
volume's files (verified with strace). My remote libvirt-bin is a
0.9.8-2ubuntu17.8, running on Ubuntu 12.04.2. This issue appears to be
fixed in virt-manager 0.9.4-2 (unstable), but given that 0.9.1-4
(testing) has this issue, I think it might be worthwhile to consider
backporting the fix. I tested the "vol-list" command though virsh, both
locally (on the server), and through the network link: locally, it
returns the listing almost immediately. Remotely, it takes about 5
seconds to return the listing. It looks like virt-manager 0.9.1 issues a
timeout too quickly on this command and retry endlessly, thus making the
GUI hang. From a user point of view, having the GUI hanging starting
from the 22nd pool image, depending on network latency and throughput,
can be quite frustrating, as the cause of the hang is not easy to
pinpoint.

Hi alexander.

This seems to be a common problem you'll come across when breaking the
installation process of any package, nothing particularly related to
auth2db.

Have you run 'dpkg --configure -a' as suggested? What's the output?

Have you tried purging the package (dpkg -P auth2db)?

Bug#701206: acpid: Mic mute button on Thinkpad X230 is not recognized

2013-04-24 Thread Ted Felix

On 04/24/2013 04:21 AM, Marek Elias wrote:

That's the Enter key. Nothing to worry about.

Input Layer: Type: 1 Code: 248 Value: 1

This is "KEY_MICMUTE". That can easily be added to acpid by adding
the following lines to input_layer.c:

   {{{0,0}, EV_KEY, KEY_MICMUTE, 1},
  "button/micmute MICMUTE 0080 "},

Add them to the "/*** AUDIO ***/" section. Rebuild and try it.
acpid should receive mic mute events. This doesn't mean it will do
anything with them. You'll need to add a config file and a script to
make something useful happen. See the man page.

If this works and you find this helpful, let me know and I'll include
this change in the next release.

If you just wanted the mic mute button to work in your window manager
(e.g. Gnome or KDE), then it's best to get them to support these
keys/buttons. acpid is geared more towards those who are not running a
window manager (servers). You can still use it for this, but it's not
really the best solution.

> The led inside mic mute button also does not switch on/off. This works
> fine for normal mute button.

Your script for acpid will need to turn the light on and off. Most
likely, your window manager is doing this already for the mute button,
but it is not aware of the mic mute button and the LED.

Bug#706074: less: Incorrect hilighting of search results

2013-04-24 Thread Bas van Sisseren
Package: less
Version: 436-1
Severity: minor

When searching for lines starting with some characters, less also sometimes
hilight parts which match the regexp, except for that they do not start at
the start of the line.

Searching itself is not effected. Searching for the previous or next matching
line works as expected.

Used search queries:
- /^[^ ]
- /^[a-z]

Reproducing works good on large text-files, e.g. /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL

Open the file, and scroll to the end (use key 'G').

(one of the incorrect hilights start exactly 3 KB before the end of the file,
so I assume the ^ in my search query matched the start of the buffer at that
 time, and not the \n)

Bug#706076: awstats: Awstats stops working if first log line is a SSL error

2013-04-24 Thread Saulo Soares de Toledo
Package: awstats
Version: 6.9.5~dfsg-5
Severity: important

Please ignore the missing config files, I'm using another names to them.

For some days, Awstats stopped logging a lot of data, and I discovered the
problem: I'm using LogRotate, and frequently the first line of my log files
is something like:

66.249.76.217 - - [17/Apr/2013:10:45:08 -0300] "\x16\x03\x01" 200 1709 "-" "-"

My server is http, and I can replicate this trying open https://myserver,
and I will have another line like this at logs.

Apache is OK, this is a valid combined log for "SSL not found" errors, but
when this appears at first log line (what heppens sometimes here even next
logrotate run), awstats shows me an error like this:

###
So searching new records from beginning of log file...
AWStats did not find any valid log lines that match your LogFormat
parameter, in the 50th first non commented lines read of your log.
Your log file
/var/log/apache2/myhost-access_log must have a
/bad format or LogFormat parameter setup does not match this format.
Your AWStats LogFormat parameter is:
1
This means each line in your web server log file need to have "combined log
format" like this:
111.22.33.44 - - [10/Jan/2001:02:14:14 +0200] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 1234
"http://www.fromserver.com/from.htm"; "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01;
Windows NT 5.0)"
And this is an example of records AWStats found in your log file (the record
number 50 in your log):
66.249.76.225 - - [14/Apr/2013:15:29:31 -0300] "\x16\x03" 200 1709 "-" "-"

If the first line is a normal combined log line, the SSL error lines are
ignored and Awstats works OK. See I'm loosing important data, since the next
time logrotate runs and correct the first line, all rotated data is lost.
And if at next logrotate runs the first line is again something like the SSL
error, I will loose more data.

As IJG libjpeg maintainer, my plan is to move to libjpeg9 which has more
feature.

I do not see libjpeg-turbo as a suitable replacement. It has
1) an different license.
2) much more security issues in a much smaller timeframe.
3) do not implement the full libjpeg8 ABI, nor the upcoming libjpeg9.

Cheers,

Bug#706049: RFS: nsnake/1.5-1 [ITP] -- classic snake game with textual interface

2013-04-24 Thread Alexandre Dantas
Hi Anton, thanks for replying!

This package has textual interface. So, unlike the snake-package already on
Archive, it requires no X libraries or a graphical session. It can simply be
played directly through the ttys or from a ssh session, being a nice
distraction
during a system crash/restore.

>From the user's point of view, it encourages dealing with the terminal and
feeling confortable with textual interfaces. By being lightweight, it
imposes no
barriers on old/less capable computers.

>From the developer's point of view, it's a simple, well-commented program
in C
with few dependences. The only required libraries are standard
out-of-the-box
packages. It was developed with beginner programmers in mind, being a nice
start-up for C game developers.

Also, since the mantainer and upstream are the same person, it eases
mantainability/updates and zeroes the chance of it ever becoming orphan.

Finally, it would be a nice addition to the other text-based packages
already on
the Archive [0].

Dear Maintainer,

Yesterday I had a bad situation where mysqld crashed and restarted twice
within the span of 20 minutes. Both times the crash was due to me doing
a ctrl-c to stop a subselect query that was taking too long to run. I
found what looks like a similar if not exact bug for this on
bugs.mysql.com. They have it marked as "closed" with no indication as
to if there is a fix etc.

http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=68051

It is marked as fixed in 5.5.31:

"[11 Mar 19:21] Daniel Price

Added 5.1.69, 5.5.31, 5.6.11, 5.7.1 changelog.

Killing a query caused an InnoDB assertion failure when the same
table (cursor) instance was used again. This is the result of a
regression error introduced by the fix for Bug#14704286. The fix
introduced a check to handle kill signals for long running
queries but the cursor was not restored to the proper state."

Bug#706078: ITP: base91 -- base91 encoder/decoder

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Franck Routier

* Package name: base91

  Upstream Author : Joachim Henke

  Description : base91 encoder/decoder

basE91 is an advanced method for encoding binary data as ASCII characters. It
is similar to UUencode or base64, but is more efficient. The overhead produced
by basE91 depends on the input data. It amounts at most to 23% (versus 33% for
base64) and can range down to 14%, which typically occurs on 0-byte blocks.
This makes basE91 very useful for transferring larger files over binary
insecure connections like e-mail or terminal lines.

Bug#567713: Decision?

2013-04-24 Thread Giampiero Salvi
Dear maintainers of the wavesurfer and libsnack2 packages,
I am one of the contributors to wavesurfer and work in the lab where both
wavesurfer and snack were developed.

I am writing to both bug threads because I think we need some coordination
in order to solve this problem. In http://bugs.debian.org/659974 it is
said that this is not a urgent issue because not many people complained. I
can tell that this bug affects a whole faculty at KTH, Stockholm where I
work and use wavesurfer as a teaching tool. The way we solved the issue is
to install a binary version of wavesurfer outside the apt-get system, which
is far from optimal.

>From the threads http://bugs.debian.org/659974 and
http://bugs.debian.org/567713 it is not clear if any decision has been
reached, yet. I believe the correct way, as has been suggested already, is
to have wavesurfer depend on libsnack2 (without version) and make libsnack2
a virtual package provided alternatively by libsnack2-alsa or libsnack2-oss.

However you decide to solve the issue, please do this as soon as possible,
because it affects more users than you think.

Thank you for your help,
Best,

Bug#682709: Proposed fix not working

2013-04-24 Thread Julien Blanc
Hi,

Sorry to say that, but i tried your patched deb files and they don’t work
for me. Client still hangs while mounting.

Reverting to 1.2.5 is currently the only solution i found for this problem.

Note : in my case, the client name / ip is in /etc/hosts file, so an error
during name resolution is very unlikely to be the root cause of this hang.

Best regards,

It isn't necessary to make libsnack2 purely virtual (though I might do
this in the future).
Since libsnack2-alsa provides libsnack2, one can make wavesurfer
depend on libsnack2
(without version) which will make wavesurfer installable either with
libsnack2 or with
libsnack2-alsa.

Cheers!

Other media or other drive, i fear.

Neither the burn program nor the operating system are at fault.
It is simply that the drive answers any attempt to start writing
by an error message. We have tried both approaches which are
possible with DVD+R (DL or not makes no difference in the specs).

The medium probably does not experience any change during the
attempt. At least the drive tells so. If you have access to
other drives, then it would be interesting to learn their
opinion about the medium state: "blank", "appendable" or "closed".
I guess that Windows burn programs report the state with similar
terms.

Have a nice day :)

Bug#706079: virt-manager: cannot send Ctrl-Alt-Del to Windows(R) VM with nonstandard keymap

Package: virt-manager

Severity: normal

Hi,

apparently, sending Ctrl-Alt-Del to a Windows(R) VM, with either
regular or spice display, does not work when an X11 keymap that
binds something like Mode_switch to the left Alt key is loaded.

This is a bug IMHO because virt-manager's ability to send arbitrary
special keys to guests ought to be independent of the local X11
settings of a system, especially if that system is neither guest
nor host (but connecting over the network).

This happens with both the sid and experimental libvirt packages.

Bug#602034: jpeg8 vs jpeg-turbo

2013-04-24 Thread Riku Voipio
On Wed, Apr 24, 2013 at 01:48:48PM +0200, Mike Gabriel wrote:
> >C. Decide which package should provide default libjpeg-dev library

> Last statement from Bill: libjpeg by IJG

The current IJG has nothing to do with the IJG that originally created JPEG.
The last activity of original IJG was in 1998, while new IJG surfaced in 2009.
Thus we actually have two forks:

1) the "new IJG" libjpeg, which changes API/ABI of the original libjpeg
library, and adds new features to JPEG image format. However the new
image format features have been rejected as not improving image quality
or compression ratio[1].

The "new IJG" has no mailing list, VCS or any or other sign of actually
being group - all apparent IJG work seems to come from a single person.
The website of IJG[2] is void of details - who is in IJG? - how does
it make decisions like changing the JPEG image format to add "SmartScale
support? There is even no place to send bug reports!

2) libjpeg-turbo remains API/ABI and binary format compatible with original
libjpeg. The most significant improvements are in supporting SIMD
features to make JPEG image encoding and decoding faster on modern
cpu's.

Libjpeg-turbo website [3] has all the signs of an healthy open source
project - A SVN repo with many commiters, bug tracker, a mailing list
with open discussion etc.

So the Debian options is to choose a libjpeg fork that changes the jpeg image
format, or one that renders images fast. At the moment the first
fork is being advertized with IJG name, thus painting an image of
"official upstream". But it isn't - especially not now when the changes
libjpeg8 added to JPEG standard have been rejected from the ISO standard.

Bug#701206: acpid: Mic mute button on Thinkpad X230 is not recognized

2013-04-24 Thread Marek Elias
thanks for your reply.

I did the changed you suggested and rebuilt the acpid package.
Now I can see the events and run scripts with it.

But I still can't see the events in xev anyway. Maybe this is caused by
too old version of xorg (I use squeeze).

So you are telling me that acpid is now obsolete and things should be
done in some other way? I don't use KDE nor GNOME. I use fluxbox and I
used to configure some of my keys through acpid. And I like it, when the
keys work in console as well as in X.

Does acpid has something to do with forwarding events to X? Or X should
get the events itself?

When I will have a scripts for this button, I should probably send them
to package acpi-support, am I right?

bye,

marek

Hmmm, OK. There's a fix I uploaded that *should* fix that exact issue
already, unless...

Maybe you're right, and it's an issue partly caused by the abortive
Squeeze installation attempt.

And thanks to you for being so clear and helpful with your responses!

I'll leave the bug report open for now, in case other people see
similar. We can always close it later...

Bug#706083: apt-show-versions: suddenly permission problems running as normal user

2013-04-24 Thread Armin Haas
Package: apt-show-versions
Version: 0.20
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

directly after I installed apt-show-versions I was able to run it as root and
as non-root. Now it still works when I run it as root, but when I try to run
it as non-root, I get this:

can't open /var/cache/apt-show-versions/files: Permission denied at
/usr/bin/apt-show-versions line 188

And indeed /var/cache/apt-show-versions/files has permissions 0600.

I didn't change permissions manually on that file, but I did run
'apt-show-versions --initialize' manually as root after installing updates.
root's umask on my system is 0077.

Cheers

Armin

Bug#706085: logcheck-database: update ssh rules for new "subsystem request for sftp" messages

2013-04-24 Thread Sebastian Ramacher
Package: logcheck-database
Version: 1.3.15
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear maintainer,

the rule to ignore "subsystem request for sftp" output from sshd doesn't
match the actual output from sshd anymore. The openssh version in wheezy
and above now also includes the username:

Apr 24 14:19:28 rigel sshd[17449]: subsystem request for sftp by user sebastian

The attached patch changes the rule to match the new output.

Bug#706086: sbuild: Wrong architecture check when --arch-all is given

2013-04-24 Thread Stephan Suerken
Package: sbuild
Version: 0.63.2-1.1
Severity: normal

Hi Roger,

   * What led up to the situation?

When building a package with two binary packages (arch1=all,
arch2=i386) with the --arch-all switch, the arch check wrongly
fails when not building on arch2.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

Trying to build this

http://tmp.installiert.net/test_1.0.0.dsc

example test package with a command line like

$ sbuild --verbose --verbose --dist=unstable --arch=amd64
--chroot=SOME-SID-AMD64-CHROOT --arch-all --source --debbuildopt=-sa
./test_1.0.0.dsc

   * What was the outcome of this action?

sbuild skips building saying:

E: test_1.0.0.dsc: amd64 not in arch list or does not match any arch wildcards:
all i386 -- skipping

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Build the arch=all package.

As far as I understand (perl et.al.) I think that we should
check that "all" is IN the dscarchs string (which is s.th. like
"all i386"), not exactly "all".

Fwiw, it does work as expected with this (naive regex) change:

Bug#706087: autopostgresqlbackup: Must not use "su -l"

2013-04-24 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: autopostgresqlbackup
Version: 1.0-1
Tags: patch

Hi Emmanuel,

autopostgresqlbackup uses login shells ("su -l") for calling multiple
commands as a non-root user. Login shells differ from normal shells
(beyond other things) by the fact that they also source /etc/profile
and .profile on startup, while non-login shells don't. See [1] for
reference.

  [1] http://tanguy.ortolo.eu/blog/article25/shrc

Bigger sites usually use that feature to call some programs upon user
login while those programs are not called from within cron jobs, etc.

In our case, login shells check which printer is either relevant for
the local machine or, in case of SSH connections, for the the machine
from the which the user has logged it. If it can't find any of both it
sends print jobs by mail and warns about that fact upon login:

# su -l postgres -c "LANG=C psql -U postgres  -l -A -F: | sed -ne '/:/ {
/Name:Owner/d; /template0/d; s/:.*$//; p }'"
Your workstation has no default printer.
   Printjobs are mailed to postg...@phys.ethz.ch

postgres
template1
#

The unexpected output above comes from the script at
/etc/profile.d/bash_profile_dphys.sh, so you should be able to
reproduce this with the following command:

# printf '#!/bin/sh\necho foo\n' > /etc/profile.d/foo.sh

and then run the su-command as shown above.

In our case, this causes following unusual error mails:

Bug#706088: Missing backup of global objects (users, tablespaces)

2013-04-24 Thread Christoph Berg
Package: autopostgresqlbackup
Version: 1.0-1
Severity: important

The script doesn't use pg_dumpall --globals to make a backup of global
objects in the database. The resulting dumps will only restore with
errors because the users and tablespaces do no exist.

Bug#706091: php5-sybase: PHP5 crashes while using mssql_query with suhosin enabled

2013-04-24 Thread Saulo Soares de Toledo
Package: php5-sybase
Version: 5.3.3-7+squeeze14
Severity: normal

While trying use mssql_query() function, PHP crashes. The error at logs:
[Wed Apr 24 11:35:08 2013] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] ALERT - canary
mismatch on efree() - heap overflow detected (attacker '127.0.0.1', file

I found information here:
http://www.suspekt.org/2008/10/12/suhosin-canary-mismatch-on-efree-heap-overflow-detected/

I found a solution who worked for me at https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=47877 :

1. Open /etc/php.ini
2. "Decomment" the line "mssql.datetimeconvert = On" and change it to
"mssql.datetimeconvert = Off"
3. Restart Apache
4. The Problem dissappears

No, not really, you just don't need it anymore when running stuff like GNOME or
KDE which have their own means of handling these events. I have no idea about
fluxbox though.

Right, and for that you still need acpid.

X does not need acpid.

It seems the required packages [1,2] are only in Kubuntu, but not in Debian.

kdepim-runtime 4.4.x-4.8.x didn't had this external dependency and still
provided the kolab resource, but so it goes ;)

The other source package [3] is also only available in Kubuntu

Bug#698914: grub-efi booting Windows 8 in UEFI mode

2013-04-24 Thread Drasko DRASKOVIC
Hi all,
I experienced similar problem on an ASUS X20E1 with pre-installed
Windows 8 image and UEFI.

I used Wheezy RC1 netinst image fetched from the site and dd-ed to the
USB stick.

In order to install Debian I had to turn off Secure Boot in ASUS UEFI
menu. After I checked if Windows 8 still boots with Secure Boot turned
off and it was OK, so I proceeded with Debian installation.

Once installed, Debian could boot, but Windows 8 no, because Grub menu
entries produced by `od-prober` were wrong. Here are the entries :

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ###
menuentry "Windows Recovery Environment (loader) (on /dev/sda2)"
--class windows --class os {
insmod part_gpt
insmod ntfs
set root='(hd0,gpt2)'
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root F0A837FBA837BF42
drivemap -s (hd0) ${root}
chainloader +1
}
menuentry "Windows 8 (loader) (on /dev/sda4)" --class windows --class os {
insmod part_gpt
insmod ntfs
set root='(hd0,gpt4)'
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 86B23B6FB23B633B
drivemap -s (hd0) ${root}
chainloader +1
}
### END /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ###

Trying to boot these will fail, as bootloader will complain that it
does not recognize "drivemap" directive.

I tried replacing the entries by :

menuentry "Windows (UEFI)" {
   search --set=root --file /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
   chainloader /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
}

That helped find `bootmgfw.efi` but went directly into Windows
Recovery blue screen, saying that device is not connected and gving an
error 0xc00f.

At least this confirms that Windows 8 bootloader was found, but the
way it was executed was wrong.

To confirm that Windows 8 still boots fine after Debian installation,
I changed ASUS UEFI boot menu (i.e. BIOS menu), to boot Windows 8
bootloader directly, and this worked fine, so I deducted that only
Grub path to the Windows 8 bootloader is wrong in the grub.cfg.

Here is a list of my partitions :

root@Mali:/home/drasko# lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:00 465.8G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:10 300M 0 part /boot/efi
├─sda2 8:20 900M 0 part
├─sda3 8:30 128M 0 part
├─sda4 8:40 97.5G 0 part
├─sda5 8:50 93.1G 0 part /
├─sda6 8:60 7.5G 0 part [SWAP]
└─sda7 8:70 266.4G 0 part /home

Windows 8 resides on /dev/sda4.

I then tried to mount bot Windows partitions : OS and Recovery and
look for "bootmgfw.efi" file. On Rrcovery partition it is located in
EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi, but on OS partition it is located in
Windows/EFI/Boot/bootmgfw.efi (or similar), so I tried replacing
entries by this path, hoping that it will boot Windows in normal mode,
and not give me Recovery screen.

The boot starts but immediately fails, with similar message (only that
Recovery screen is not showed this time). This potentially might work,
maybe some modules were not probed (see below).

Finally, I found that solution escribed here worked fine :
http://falstaff.agner.ch/2012/12/18/ubuntu-12-10-and-windows-8-with-secure-boot-mode/

This script :
https://gist.github.com/falstaff84/4330598/raw/adaf598a78d568dbfada596441bdfad3b4dd3f97/25_windows_uefi
seem to be doing a job of broken `os-prober` and creates correct
grub.cfg entry :

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/25_windows_uefi ###
menuentry "Windows 8 (loader)" {
insmod search_fs_uuid
insmod chain
insmod part_gpt
insmod fat
set root='(hd0,gpt1)'
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root BA44-790F
chainloader /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
}
### END /etc/grub.d/25_windows_uefi ###

It is similar as the workaround proposed in this bug earlier, but I
can notice two things here : UUID dieffers and adequate modules are
inserted (like `fat` for example).

I hope that this helps bug discovery and elimination.

Best regards,
Drasko

Bug#706093: clinfo: file conflict with amd-clinfo: usr/bin/clinfo

2013-04-24 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: clinfo,amd-clinfo
Version: 0.0.20130409-1
Severity: serious
Tags: sid
User: trei...@debian.org
Usertags: edos-file-overwrite
Control: affects -1 amd-clinfo

Hi,

automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the
same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has
detected the following problem:

  Selecting previously unselected package clinfo.
(Reading database ... 6780 files and directories currently installed.)
  Unpacking clinfo (from .../clinfo_0.0.20130409-1_amd64.deb) ...
  dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/clinfo_0.0.20130409-1_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/clinfo', which is also in package amd-clinfo
1:12-6+point-3
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   /var/cache/apt/archives/clinfo_0.0.20130409-1_amd64.deb

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violates
sections 7.6.1 and 10.1 of the policy. An optimal solution would
consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming
or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the
circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file
diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a
last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual
Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and
diversions should only be used when packages provide different
implementations for the same functionality.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  usr/bin/clinfo

This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package. You may
also register in the BTS that the other package is affected by the bug.

Cheers,

Andreas

PS: for more information about the detection of file overwrite errors
of this kind see http://edos.debian.net/file-overwrites/.

PS: @Vincent: looks like we need to revisit the general OpenCL package
layout soon after wheezy was released. If this clinfo has at least the
same functionality as amd-clinfo (I haven't tested the new one, yet),
we could drop the non-free one entirely - or is there still use for it?

Hi,

It was not "accidentally removed", but the support for kolab was
migrated into akonadi resources which use libkolab, which is not
available in Debian.
See the rest of discussion in #705406 (to which this bug is merged) for
more details.

P.S.: yes, we do read build logs of our packages already.

Bug#706095: autopostgresqlbackup: Code injection via unsafe database names inside eval

2013-04-24 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: autopostgresqlbackup
Version: 1.0-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security patch

Hi Emmanuel,

as already mentioned in http://bugs.debian.org/706087, database names
are used unmangled and unquoted inside several evals in
autopgsqlbackup:

# dgrep -n eval autopostgresqlbackup
/usr/sbin/autopostgresqlbackup:302:eval rm -f "$BACKUPDIR/latest/*"
/usr/sbin/autopostgresqlbackup:359: eval $PREBACKUP
/usr/sbin/autopostgresqlbackup:460: eval rm -fv
"$BACKUPDIR/weekly/$DB/${DB}_week.$REMW.*"
/usr/sbin/autopostgresqlbackup:471: eval rm -fv
"$BACKUPDIR/daily/$DB/*.$DOW.sql.*"
/usr/sbin/autopostgresqlbackup:507: eval rm -fv
"$BACKUPDIR/weekly/week.$REMW.*"
/usr/sbin/autopostgresqlbackup:519: eval rm -fv
"$BACKUPDIR/daily/*.$DOW.sql.*"
/usr/sbin/autopostgresqlbackup:541: eval $POSTBACKUP
/usr/sbin/autopostgresqlbackup:603:eval rm -f "$LOGFILE"
/usr/sbin/autopostgresqlbackup:604:eval rm -f "$LOGERR"

Since PostgreSQL allows arbitrary database names, this allows
PostgreSQL users who are allowed to create databases to inject shell
code into autopostgresqlbackup which will be executed as root via
autopostgresqlbackup's cron.daily cron job.

The fix should be easy though:

All evals listed above except those for $POSTBACKUP and $PREBACKUP are
unneeded and can be removed after slight quoting changes.

The eval before $PREBACKUP and $POSTBACKUP can also just be removed if
it's ok that backticks and variable expansion doesn't work within the
value of $PREBACKUP and $POSTBACKUP.

Bug#706043: re-name: really necessary?

2013-04-24 Thread Jakub Wilk

(I don't intend to sponsor this package. Sorry!)

* Jonathan Dowland , 2013-04-24, 11:21:
I'm also not clear on why you've renamed the upstream name from rename
to re-name. You claim in README.Source:

It is a generical name and was modified to re-name to be introduced in
Debian.

"rename" is not a current package name, re-name is just as generic with
the added disadvantage that it is not the upstream name.

I am more concerned that name of the binary ("renamex") was also
changed.

Although I suppose alternatives would not be appropriate for
/usr/bin/rename, since the calling syntax is completely different to
prename

Indeed.

(not sure which other packages provide a /usr/bin/rename alternative),

There are no such packages. The alternative is just an artifact from the
past. See bugs #304705, #439935.

As an irrelevant side-note it's nice to see a debian/rules file that
adds --parallel to dh(1) calls.

Yeah, it saves like 0.1s of build time. ;)

Why is your .orig.tar different than the one uscan downloads?

You build-depend on "debhelper (>= 9.0.0)" but debhelper no longer uses
such versioning scheme. Use just "debhelper (>= 9)".

Typo in README.en.txt and in the package description:
substitue -> substitute.

Lintian 2.5.12 emits:

If it was a bit smarter, it would also emit hyphen-used-as-minus-sign.

Do you know what are regex.c and regex.h for? They constitute >50% of the

Do you have any dahdi modules installed?

I had to download and build the ones from Digium

Do you have any DAHDI hardware?

Yes

Workaround: move that file aside.

I wonder if we should change the default of that file to be generated by
running 'dahdi_genconf modules' in the postinst script.

Should not error out even if people don't have the hardware or drivers - should provide a message
telling them they need to get the drivers a different way. (where is the dahdi_genconf script and
does it build the kernel modules? )

It appeared by the package names that the drivers were installed by debain

ii dahdi-source 1:2.6.1+dfsg2-1all DAHDI

But I had to download dahdi-linux-current.tar.gz from digum and build by hand
( http://downloads.digium.com/pub/telephony/ )

module-assisant no longer builds these kernel modules - has a broken zaptel entry - see: ( now very
old bug ) 641857

Some sort of message on install - and one should not get a error code if the package actually
installs.. Lots of users will need bread-crumbs if they have to build the modules.

Bug#706097: coreutils: chmod --recursive --changes fails to stat items in subdirectories

2013-04-24 Thread Matthew Gabeler-Lee
Package: coreutils
Version: 8.20-3
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Under some circumstances, combining the --recursive and --changes arguments
to chmod can cause it to report errors checking the new permissions of
subdirectories. Test case:

$ cd /tmp
$ mkdir -p a/b
$ chmod -R g+s a
$ chmod -Rc o-rwx a
mode of `a' changed from 2755 (rwxr-sr-x) to 2750 (rwxr-s---)
chmod: getting new attributes of `b': No such file or directory

The problem lies in src/chmod.c, function mode_changed, line ~123, the call
to stat. The file path passed is just the filename, not the recursive path,
and so the stat call fails. A more subtle error happens if the filename is
valid in the current directory from which chmod is invoked, since it will
then be comparing the mode bits of two unrelated items.

All other calls to stat and chmod related functions use the *at variants
that take a directory fd for path resolution. This call needs to be updated
to do the same.

security/s-p-u for wheezy r1.
