This version of the package also fails on my system (iceweasel 6.0.2-1,
openjdk-6-jre 6b23~pre9-2) with the same error message.

Ok, The issue is triggered by the package-file.map file containing
entries of these files before the files themselves exist in the mirrored
and imported tree.

That causes the linking between the file and a source or binary package
to fail.

On the next mirrorrun's indexing however, the package-file.map entry is
not considered anymore (in --quick mode) because it was already in the
previous map file.

(For now, I've re-run some mirrorrun's index runs in non-fast mode.
Now ever .dsc file belongs to a src package, and every .deb is
associated with a binary package.)

Ooops, I did not even realize I was shouting myself in the foot: vxl
would not transition to testing.
I changed the severity back to normal.

As noted in my first mail, my patch was against the latest SVN revision. And
there these issues were already fixed (see revision 87 from [1] and onwards).
And since Yaroslav explicitly talked about including these changes I didn't
include them in my patch.

As netconsole doesn't work on -rt IIRC do you can try using a serial
console?

You can try, but I already asked in the linux-rt irc channel and Thomas
has no idea and doesn't seem to be interested to look deeper.

Bug#643712: GNOME or GTK tabs are very slow

2011-09-29 Thread James Chew
Hi,

My machine is running Debian Wheezy amd64; using Debian provided kernel 3.0
and the Nvidia drivers (installed the Debian way).

I am running Gnome as my desktop and am not using any Compositing window
manager.

Starting from yesterday (28-Sep-2011) I realised Google Chrome's tabs and
address bar were acting very slow. I started searching on the internet for
similar problems when I stumbled across this bug report (so I will append my
observations here).

Some issues that I have observed occuring on my machine that started at the
same time:
1. GTK+ programs using tabs are very slow (Google Chrome, gedit,
iceweasel/firefox)
2. "System Monitor" tool starts running up 100% CPU usage (according to
other bug reports on bugs.debian.org, this probem has been seen before and
according to those reports it is most likely display driver issue).

I am very sure that my computer was running perfectly on 26-Sep-2011. As
such I am attaching information on the packages that were updated on my
machine since.

Bug#643743: ITP: pcalendar -- track menstrual cycles and predict fertility periods

2011-09-29 Thread Miriam Ruiz
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Miriam Ruiz

* Package name: pcalendar
  Version : 3.2
  Upstream Author : Mar'yan Rachynskyy
* URL : http://linuxorg.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL-3+
  Programming Lang: Java
  Description : track menstrual cycles and predict fertility periods

 Periodic Calendar is a GUI application which assists in women menstrual
 cycles tracking and fertility periods prediction. This information can
 be used as supportive either for conception or contraception planning.
 .
 Periodic Calendar provides support for BBT and sympto-thermal methods
 which have the highest reliability in fertility periods prediction. User
 can choose any subset of the features to be used or even fall to the
 generic
 calendar method (which if used alone is very unreliable).
 .
 Authors of the Periodic Calendar still insist on not being an equal
 substitute to the fertility planning consultants or doctors. Before
 using this application please talk to your doctor or read a good book
 on the subject.
 .
 THIS PROGRAM PREDICTIONS IN NO CASES CAN BE USED AS FINAL. THE METHODS USED
 ARE NOT 100% EFFECTIVE FOR ALL WOMEN.

Most of these warnings come from the package maintainer changing the
runlevel setting of the script in their package without ensuring that
the change take effect during upgrades.

There is a circular Pre-dependency between dpkg and coreutils:

Maybe coreutils does not need to depend on dpkg anymore ?

So for cron this was likely caused by:

<--  snip  -->

cron (3.0pl1-101) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Christian Kastner ]
...
  * debian/cron.init:
- Changed Default-Stop from (1) to (empty). rc0 and rc6 were removed in
  3.0pl1-101 because the stop action -- sending SIGTERM/SIGKILL to cron
  on shutdown/reboot -- was redundant. This, however, also applies to
  rc1, because killprocs will do that for us.
  * debian/postinst:
...
- Removed last remaining stop action (for rc1) from upate-rc.d (see above)
...

<--  snip  -->

Looking through cron bugs, I find #583714, and that contains:

<--  snip  -->

Apart from your bug report, we were previously aware of the insserv
issue. I'm still contemplating a solution for this in postinst, but the
problem is that there is no easy way to determine whether the current
runlevels were set by an older cron or by the system administrator. Even
on post-101 installs, the administrator might have manually set (0 1 6)
after the package set (1), so we cannot just delete the links if they
are present.

<--  snip  -->

My impression is that there are two problems:
- There is confusion whether a package can remove links when the
  defaults change and
- there is the question how to fix it in the many packages where it is
  currently wrong after upgrading.

Hi Bill, I agree. With v1.7.7 upstream will change the sample hooks,
and I plan to move the contrib hooks into /usr/share/git-core/,
providing a symlink in /usr/share/doc/git-core/ for backward
compatibility.

hi,
since the standard python version seems to have moved to 2.7, the
package is not installable any longer, so the dependencys have either to
be relaxed if this is possible or the package adpated to either use
python2.6 explicitly or change if there are any incompatiblity issues
with python2.7 (i can't recall any things that brake with 2.7?).

Those who try out can patch the parallel building support back in (We could
only "comment" it out instead of dropping it.

Well; that's not possible. Each builddaemon uses its own configuration for
parallel building. What the Debian Policy mandates is that if parallel=n is
recognised, then parallel building must succeed.

Ah, if you have an idea to solve this, I'm all ears !

Well, I try to keep in mind that we are preparing the next Debian stable
release and that packages that FTBFS are a problem, for licence and security
reasons, so I think we are best with slowly-non-parallel-built packages than
with fast-built-only-if-moon-is-aligned packages, hence the proposal to drop
the parallel building.

+1

Depending on the event d-announce or d-news is a better place for such
announcements, indeed.

Bug#643748: Passwords from conf not accepted anymore

2011-09-29 Thread Martin Sebald
Package: duply
Version: 1.5.5.1-2

Hello,

after upgrading from 1.5.4 to 1.5.5 passwords are no longer accepted. If
you run the script it shows a password input field - which makes absolutly
no sense for automatic scripts. ;-) On my machines I use FTP and SCP for
backup, both methods have the same issue.

I quickly read over the bug reports in the duply tracker and saw some bugs
related to this issue. Seems to be fixed now.

Maybe you want to upload a new version to Debian repository, because this
is really a showstopper.

Cheers,
Martin

I think it used to work with a previous openjdk-6.

Yes, but uptream use a specific codeBase for this java.policy :
grant codeBase "file:/usr/share/icedtea-web/netx.jar" {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
};
(I've uploaded icedtea-web-1.1.3 with this policy to be closer to upstream)

In fact, it's an issue with openjdk-6 where he didn't allow it's own
sunpkcs11.jar library to access internal classes. I'm preparing an update for
this. In the mean time, you can edit /etc/java-6-openjdk/security/java.policy
and replace  :
--
grant codeBase "file:/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-amd64/ext/*" {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
};
grant codeBase "file:/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-common/ext/*" {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
};
--
by this policy :
--
grant codeBase "file:/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-amd64/jre/lib/ext/*" {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
};
grant codeBase "file:/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-common/jre/lib/ext/*" {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
};

Bug#643749: libhttpunit-java: Maven pom descriptor contains invalid reference to jtidy artifact

2011-09-29 Thread James Page
Package: libhttpunit-java

The maven artifact for httpunit references the old group/artifact
location for jtidy - this changed in the most recent version in the

Results in this type of error when using httpunit in Maven projects.

Missing:

  Try downloading the file manually from the project website.

  Then, install it using the command:

  Alternatively, if you host your own repository you can deploy the file there:

I do not have any problem with that, now that this has been documented.
And thank you Martin and Bernd for the veto, I prefer to re-use
already-established resources as well :-)

As I wrote in my first email, what concerns me the most is the
following:

>>> Post Policy:
>>> Restricted to some teams: Events (all of the members), Publicity
>>> (basically, the Press team) and WWW (if someone wants to).
>>> In principle, those who can commit to www.d.o/events/ should be able
>>> to send a post as soon as they add a new event.
>>>
>>> Alternatively, posting can be restricted to the Events and Press
>>> team only, using the following workflow: whoever adds a new event
>>> also sends the announcement to the debian-publicity@ list for
>>> reviews, then a member of the Events and Press team posts that to
>>> this new list.

I do not want to have another write access at any cost, but the fact
that the Events team should wait for someone else to formally announce
an event is IMHO a bad workflow, especially considering that most of the
time there is not enough manpower, both in the Events and in the
Publicity teams (please correct me if I am wrong).

I was also thinking about "automatic" notifications/emails based on CVS
commits on the www.d.o/events/ pages, but 1) it should be implemented
and 2) I am not sure the WWW team and/or DSA would be happy. This
problem is orthogonal with the list, so let us discuss it later on.

> Depending on the event d-announce or d-news is a better place for such
> announcements, indeed.

I would be against any split based on the kind/importance of event: the
rationale for the request is exactly to have a central point, while now
we have the debian-events-*@, the debian-news@ and the debian-publicity@
mailing lists, as well as personal blog posts. Frankly speaking, I do
not care if it is debian-announce@ or debian-news@, but my preference
would go to the latter, given its description.

What does the Publicity/Press team think about that?

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Bug#643750: iceweasel: add "open with" to context menu of download history

2011-09-29 Thread Paul Seyfert
Package: iceweasel
Version: 7.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

related to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=613752 I
want to suggest to add an "open with" entry to the context menu of the
download history.

currently clicking on a link to a pdf file, firefox/iceweasel asks me
what to do (save / open with...). Usually I want to do both - store the
pdf somewhere in a non-temp directory and open it. This leads me to
choose "save", the file is downloaded, the download history pops up,
where I can click on the downloaded file to open it. However being
affected by the aforementioned bug, the pdf is not opened with an
appropriate application. Unfortunately in the download history I only
have the choices "open" and "open containing folder" (among others).
>From a regular file browser I can choose the appropriate pdf viewer but
end up with dozens of open file browser instances.

Therefore my suggestion is to make the application choice not only
available from the website link but also from the download history.

I also filed this bug as:

Bug#643751: kbibtex: new upstream beta 0.4b1

2011-09-29 Thread Pierre Haessig
Package: kbibtex
Version: 0.3-1

Version 0.4 beta 1 was released on September 18th.
Since the version 0.3 brings a lot of functional regression compared to 0.2,
it would really help having the new beta packaged quickly

I'd be glad to test it, without the need to compile and use the taintful

Bug#599045: New version 3 fixes my issue

2011-09-29 Thread Vincent Van Houtte
Hi,

Using version 2.04-2 (Debian stable), I get moren and more error message
referring to unicharset.cpp:76.

The Tesseract-ocr-bugtracker states that this problem is solved in v3:
http://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/issues/detail?id=265#c0

Is it possible to make a new package for this app?

THX!

Bug#643752: gbp-create-remote-repo: better documentation needed

2011-09-29 Thread Thomas Koch
Package: git-buildpackage
Version: 0.5.31
Severity: minor

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi Guido,

I was very happy to see a tool that does this repetitive work of repository
setup on alioth for me. However I couldn't figure out how to create
repositories for java or scala packaging. Scala packages are in
/git/pkg-scala/packages, Java packages in /git/pkg-java.

On the other hand, it seems really annoying, that repository creation can't be
done over the web interface...

Second, I'm a little concerned to let a tool act on my behalf on a Debian
machine. I've not tried to run it. It should print all commands to the screen
it wants to run and ask me for confirmation. And if it does, it should be
explicitly said in the manual that the tool will not do anything without my
explicit confirmation.

Thank you for your work!

Thomas Koch

No, I cannot, unfortunately. Only when using it with the init-script
(config attached). When I activate the commented-out line, the workers
constantly crash and restart.

I am not 100% sure it has to do with the settings.py not found - there
are no tracebacks or errors in /var/log/gunicorn/dict.conf.log except:
2011-09-29 12:10:31 [6836] [INFO] Booting worker with pid: 6836
2011-09-29 12:10:31 [6836] [INFO] Worker exiting (pid: 6836)

But I tried running it manually the same way the init-script does (but
without --daemon) and I get:
root@vald:/etc/gunicorn.d# /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/gunicorn_django
--pid /varun/gunicorn/dict.conf.pid --name dict.conf --user vald
--group vald --log-file /var/log/gunicorn/dict.conf.log

I appreciate your efforts and I like the idea of reportbug integration.
I won't comment about the patch itself, I am not maintaining the
reportbug package, so I can't judge.

However please note, mentors.debian.NET is not an official Debian
project. The ".net" indicates a subtle difference. While some people,
including Don, agreed in eventually having a debian-mentors pseudo
package that would be associated with the debian-mentors mailing list,
not with mentors.debian.net (i.e. Debexpo, the sofware running there).

Hence I don't think any tight mentors.d.n integration of reportbug would
be appropriate for the time being. Also I am not particularly convinced
on the way you do it (content scraping). If you want, I will gratefully
merge a SOAP interface into Debexpo you could query though.

Bug#643755: openjdk-7-jre-headless: binfmt deregistration on package removal broken

2011-09-29 Thread Adrian Bunk
Package: openjdk-7-jre-headless
Version: 7~b147-2.0~pre6-1
Severity: normal

I removed openjdk-6 some time ago, and just got the following on
an upgrade of openjdk-7:

<--  snip  -->

Setting up openjdk-7-doc (7~b147-2.0~pre6-1) ...
Setting up openjdk-7-jre-headless (7~b147-2.0~pre6-1) ...
Installing new version of config file
/etc/java-7-openjdk/security/java.security ...
update-binfmts: warning: current package is openjdk-7, but binary format
already installed by openjdk-6
Setting up openjdk-7-jre-lib (7~b147-2.0~pre6-1) ...

<--  snip  -->

The problem boils down to the following code in the prerm of
openjdk-{6,7}-jre-headless:

<--  snip  -->

if which update-binfmts >/dev/null; then
# try to remove and ignore the error
if [ -e /var/lib/binfmts/openjdk-7 ]; then
update-binfmts --package openjdk-7 \
--remove jar /usr/bin/jexec || true
fi
fi

<--  snip  -->

There is no /var/lib/binfmts/openjdk-{6,7}, instead there is a
/var/lib/binfmts/jar .

And I wonder why there are not (anymore?) version specific files:

A common sequence when installing a new Java version is to first
install the new version (so that dependencies are always fulfilled)
and then remove the obsolete old version.

If I understand that correctly, this leaves users without binfmt
registration?

And when this happens during an upgrade from oldstable to stable,
the binfmt registration might not happen until the upgrade to the
next stable release (or a DSA for OpenJDK).

libffi and ghc gets rebuilds, what will happen:

   A) The haskell ABIs stay the same, the existing library packages can
still be used. Great.

   B) The haskell ABIs change. We’ll have to binNMU all Haskell libraries,
but oh well, not bad thanks to BD-Uninstallable-support in wanna-build
and autosigning.

   C) The haskell ABIs do not change, but the old library builds are
broken nevertheless. Big mess. Hard to recover from, because builds are
not ordered automatically any more. Needs lots of NMUes and Dep-Waits.

sorry, I don't get the `C' case. why should these be broken by a libffi or
libgmp change?

Maybe it’s an unrealistic example, but I could imagine that ghc some
data type (size) defined by libffi is used when generating code for a
haskell library under the assumption that it has the same structure/size
in the run time system and/or other used haskell libraries.

But instead of making blind guesses, maybe GHC upstream can enlighten
us: Is it safe to build ghc and a Haskell library, then upgrade libffi
to a new version (with soname bump), rebuild ghc, but use the previous
library build?

So there might be difficulties because we build static libraries. E.g.
the RTS would have been built against the previous libffi, but would
then be linked against the new one, which might be ABI-incompatible.
Shared libraries would notice the upgrade and use the old ABI, but
static libraries won't.

How is this supposed to work, incidentally? I just checked the Drepper
document about shared libraries and he doesn't seem to mention this
problem. How do other packages with static libraries deal with this?

In Debian, we only build Haskell libraries still exclusively statically.

I’m not sure if I got your conclusion: Do you expect problems if the RTS
and libraries were built against different versions of libffi, or not?

Sorry for the delay, just going through my inbox and I think I missed
your message before.

To answer your question: yes I would expect problems. My question was:
how do other (non-Haskell) packages on Debian that contain static
libraries deal with this problem? We should follow whatever approach is
used by others.

Cheers,
Simon

Bug#643757: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: Loading acpi/processor causes hanging or reboot

2011-09-29 Thread Thomas Nilsson
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-35squeeze2
Severity: important
Tags: d-i upstream

This problem hinders the booting on (at least) this specific HW.

Originally I thought this was a udev problem but some tracing revealed
that the basic problem is that the machine locks up or do a spontaneous
reboot when loading the kernel module acpi/processor.

>From a user view the booting stops when udev tries to populate the devices.

If I disable the loading and do a manual modprobe the machine either locks up
or sometimes do a spontaneous reboot after some seconds.

I have tried to figure out more precisely what is happening but I have not
managed to get a decent kernel-dump. (And this is a production machine so
I had to put it back in service...)

The easy fix, which I am using now is

blacklist processor

in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Could you attach the portion of the kernel log (e.g., from
/var/log/kern.log*) from bootup until initialization finishes, so we
can get a sense of how that normally goes?

Also, if you get a chance some time to test a 3.x kernel from sid or
experimental, that would be very helpful. The only packages from
outside squeeze that should be needed are linux-base, initramfs-tools,
and the linux image itself.

Thanks,
Jonathan

looks like a faulty battery or a kernel issue.

If you kill upowerd and then monitor the sysfs entries, do you still see
this behaviour?

This is due to changes introduced by dpkg 1.16.1.

You can read http://wiki.debian.org/qa.debian.org/FTBFS ("dpkg-source
complains about unexpected upstream changes" item). It may help you to
fix this bug :-)

I change the severity to important.

Thanks for your work!

Bug#643764: autoconf-archive: bad html -> autoconf-archive.html move

2011-09-29 Thread Adrian Bunk
Package: autoconf-archive
Version: 20110717-1
Severity: normal

I just upgraded from 20090426-1 to 20110717-1, and instead of
/usr/share/doc/autoconf-archive/html there is now a directory
/usr/share/doc/autoconf-archive/autoconf-archive.html

This is a pretty bad name since that looks like the name of a file,
not of a directory.

Please move that back to the old name.

Bug#638970: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#638970: flashing bettery icon still present in version 0.9.13-1

2011-09-29 Thread Ralf Jung
Hi,

it seems I did not supply the correct version number when issuing the "found"
command to con...@bugs.debian.org... at least it complained in the reply:
"There is no source info for the package 'upower' at version '0.9.13-1' with
architecture ''
Unable to make a source version for version '0.9.13-1'"
Did I do something wrong?

> looks like a faulty battery or a kernel issue.
I am quite sure the battery is fine - when I still used Kubuntu and HAL, there
was no such issue, and it showed up immediately after installing Debian. I can
try a Kubuntu live CD to verify this.

Which sysfs entries, something in /sys/power? And how can I monitor them?

Kind regards,
Ralf

Bug#643575: linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae: "cat /proc/interrupts" crashes and freezes system when called a second time

2011-09-29 Thread Torsten Crass

Hi,

since my previous attempt to submit further information apparently
failed, I hereby re-submit my message from yestarday night:

8<

Ben, Jarod,

in order to confirm that lirc_serial is the bad guy, I tried to prevent
the lirc modules from loading -- without success though. It seems I am
too stupid to achieve a lirc-free system -- perhaps you can give me a
hint what I'm doing wrong?

Here's what I've tried so far:

- Disabling everything that looks like pro-lirc in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf:

8<
# /etc/lirc/hardware.conf
#
# Arguments which will be used when launching lircd
LIRCD_ARGS=""

#Don't start lircmd even if there seems to be a good config file
START_LIRCMD=false

#Don't start irexec, even if a good config file seems to exist.
START_IREXEC=false

#Try to load appropriate kernel modules
LOAD_MODULES=false

# Run "lircd --driver=help" for a list of supported drivers.
DRIVER=""
# If DEVICE is set to /dev/lirc and udev is in use /dev/lirc0 will be
# automatically used instead
DEVICE=""
MODULES=""

# Default configuration files for your hardware if any
LIRCD_CONF=""
LIRCMD_CONF=""
8<

- Blacklisting lirc_device and lirc_serial in their corresponding
/etc/modprobe.d/.conf files (followed by "depmod -ae" and
"update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r` -v")

Yet I still get messages about lirc being attemptet to load in dmesg:

Bug#643693: x11-xserver-utils: [xrandr] xrandr no longer sets up virtual screen

Panning no longer works. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

To be more precise, I suspect that there is some panning - by a few
pixels: it is hard to tell.

So before I could pan around the 1024x1024 virtual screen using a
synaptics trackpad. With the new packages, no panning (modulo possibly
a couple of pixels) occurs.

The initial state as reported by xrandr is:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 600, maximum 4096 x 4096
LVDS1 connected 1024x600+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 195mm x
113mm
   1024x600   60.0*+
   800x60060.3 56.2
   640x48059.9
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

I notice "current 1024 x 600" above. As noted in the first report,
"current" changes to 1024 x 1024 despite --mode 1024x600. I am not
sure whether that is significant.

A Kubuntu version which still used HAL uses a completely different kernel, so
this is not comparable.

The sysfs entries shown in the upower log.

Bug#643761: qemu-kvm: Attaching usb devices to a Win7 guest only works for the first device

2011-09-29 Thread Ralf Spenneberg
Yes, I have tried the sid version. Same behavior, but funny thing:
When using qemu-kvm without libvirt it behaves differently:

- Adding a usb-keyboard using the monitor and usb_add host:5.4 works
- Deleting the usb-keyboard using usb_del 0.1 works
- Adding it again works.

This does not automatically create a usb-hub as done by libvirt.

- Adding a second device and a third device works, too

But now a Generic USB Hub is added.

- Removing the second (and third) device does not remove the hub
- Reattaching the second device does not work
- Removing the first device does work

Reattaching any device does not work as long as the hub is in place!

- Removing the hub works

Now attaching devices work again. Apparently the communication with the
hub is broken on Win7. It works fine on WinXP and Linux as far as I have
tested.

Past BIND 9 updates had similar requirements.

The Recommends: which installed the Cacao package was probably
unintended, and the package is almost certainly unused your systems.
The Cacao-based JVM is not ready for production purposes.

Yep, it looks like reordering folders doesn't work completely fine. It
seems that there might be bad interactions between folders and
bookmarks.

That definitely looks upstream so I'm trying to submit it directly to

Really? Why I should remove one package for upgrading other package on

Suppose that my developers need that Cacao package. What then? IMHO it's
not a good solution.

Bug#643761: qemu-kvm: Attaching usb devices to a Win7 guest only works for the first device

2011-09-29 Thread Ralf Spenneberg
Ok.

Now it is getting really weird. I tried to reproduce the behavior on
WinXP without libvirt.

Adding the first device works via usb_add (without adding a hub)

Adding a second device does not really work
- The device is added
- A hub is added automatically
- But the devices apparently are not enumerated
- info usb shows both as 0.0
- The WinXP guest does not display the devices in the device manager

Removing the first device reestablishes the function. Both devices are
enumerated und functional.

Adding, removing and reattaching further devices works fine.

So while WinXP requires a hub Win7 works without a hub. Somehow Win7
apparently loses/cannot establish the contact (bus) to the hub.

Bug#643768: src:landell: does not byte-compile Python files

2011-09-29 Thread Stefano Rivera
Package: src:landell
Version: 0.92.1-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Your package does not byte-compile Python files. This task is usually
done by dh_python2 (or, in the past, python-support or python-central).

In order to fix this, you should apply the attached patch.

The override is necessary because it installs in an unusual directory.
If the package used /usr/lib/landell or /usr/share/landell, it wouldn't
be.

Fwiw, I guess I'm gonna prepare an NMU including that patch. Failing to
lock the screen might be considered as a security issue, which is indeed
really bad. In this case, it's not completely bad since the user should
see it right away and could act directly (though she's unlikely to know
what to do).

it's certainly too late for the point release on this weekend. The deadline
was Sunday.

That said, I really don't want to introduce behaviour changes due to security
updates in a point release. Instead there should be a proper announcement
stating the pros and cons of re-enabling t1 support for those who need it, if
it's going to be deactivated by default. Point releases are supposed to be
non-breaking bugfixes, it should not be needed to read the announcement for
them. For security updates there are often important information in the
announcement, like the dropped support for some Java VM variants in DSA 2311-1.

So if you feel that this is important enough to disable the functionality and
that the functionality is used widely enough that it warrants that the users
ought to be informed about the regression, please make sure that an
announcement is made to the proper venue, which is -security-announce.

Kind regards,
Philipp Kern

I don't have BIND 9 on my machines, so I don't know about that issue.

Yes, I can understand that I should purge any buggy package which has a
very important security holes and they can't be fixed. But I can't
realize that I should remove a package, because its maintainer doesn't
want to increase dependency version.

I need to consult it with my developers. I'm a free man, so I have a
right to install also unused packages on my server ;)

Bug#643769: dovecot-core: Can't upgrade because group dovecot doesn't exist

2011-09-29 Thread Rodney Lorrimar

Dear Maintainer,

I couldn't upgrade dovecot today. I think it was because the dovecot group
wasn't present - but it should be added by dovecot-common I guess.

The following log should probably explain it:

Bug#643770: ruby-rchardet: syntax errors when loading with ruby1.9.1

2011-09-29 Thread Bram Senders
Package: ruby-rchardet
Version: 1.3-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hi there,

Trying to use ruby-rchardet using ruby1.9.1 gives syntax errors when
loading the module. See the following output:

bram@debian:~$ irb1.9.1 -rrchardet
:29:in `require':
/usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/rchardet/chardistribution.rb:60: syntax error,

This is because a number of "if" and "for" statements end with a colon,
which was apparently valid in ruby1.8, but is not valid in ruby1.9.1.
Attached is a patch that removes these colons, so that ruby-rchardet
loads without syntax errors.

Cheers,

Bram Senders

Bug#640724: plasma-desktop: pager widget doesn't remember settings

2011-09-29 Thread Wouter Van Hemel
Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4:4.6.5-3
Followup-For: Bug #640724

Hello,

The pager widget/applet doesn't remember its settings.

I have 4 workspaces in a horizontal row. In the pager applet, the setting
"Number of rows:" is set to 1. When the system starts, the pager shows the
workspaces in one row, but they are really arranged 2x2 and when using
shortcuts, can only be switched to with left-right and up-down.

When I set "Number of rows" in Pager Settings to 2, click OK, and then set it
back to 1, the desktops are arranged correctly side-by-side in one row.

After rebooting or restarting KDE, the pager shows 4 desktops side-by-side
while they are physically arranged 2x2 (which is incorrect).

Somehow, restoring the setting of "Number of rows" only applies to the pager
widget and not the physical desktop layout.

I expect the layout of the pager widget and the actual physical order of the
workspaces to match (preferably in one row, because I'm too stupid to use 4
keys to switch workspace).

Regards,

  Wouter

Bug#642961: systemd: debian-fixup.service goes berserk in /run, breaks boot

2011-09-29 Thread Alban Browaeys
Package: systemd
Version: 36-1
Followup-For: Bug #642961

Dear Maintainer,
oneshot should be a good answer . Ie it will break at first shot only
but still break.

Using the internals of initscripts /lib/init/mount-functions.sh
run_migrate should do the trick. The offending lines that cause
debian-fixup to break are:
# If both directories are the same, we don't need to do
# anything further.
sold="$(/usr/bin/stat -L --format="%d %i" "$OLD" 2>/dev/null ||
:)"
srun="$(/usr/bin/stat -L --format="%d %i" "$RUN" 2>/dev/null ||
:)"
if [ -n "$sold" ] && [ "$sold" = "$srun" ]; then
return 0
fi

Here:
 /usr/bin/stat -L --format="%d %i" /var/lock
14 5912
/usr/bin/stat -L --format="%d %i" /run/lock/
14 5912

cat /proc/mounts |grep lock
tmpfs /var/lock tmpfs rw,nosuid,relatime,size=717012k,mode=755 0 0
cat /proc/mounts |grep run
tmpfs /run tmpfs rw,nosuid,relatime,size=717012k,mode=755 0 0

ls -ld /var/lock
drwxrwxrwt 6 root root 180 sept. 29 13:51 /var/lock
ls -ld /run/lock/
drwxrwxrwt 6 root root 180 sept. 29 13:51 /run/lock/

I do not know how I ended up with /var/lock and /run/lock behing the
same though syncing with run_migrate (or plain removing the /var/lock
and /var/run from debian-fixup as debian already has those managed and
fixed) would be great.

Best regards,
Alban

Bug#637236: gcc-4.6: FTBFS on kfreebsd-amd64: gengtype: Internal error: abort in get_output_file_with_visibility, at gengtype.c:1998

2011-09-29 Thread Ludovic Brenta

severity 637236 important
thanks

It appears that gcc-4.6 4.6.1-13 built successfully on the buildd,
fano.d.o. Downgrading this bug so gcc-4.6 can migrate to testing.

However the buildd logs contain a disturbing history of failures,
retries and eventual successes:

4.6.1-13 OK on fano
 FTBFS on fasch
 FTBFS on fasch
 FTBFS on fano

4.6.1-12 OK on fano

4.6.1-11 OK on fasch
 FTBFS on fasch
 FTBFS on fano

4.6.1-10 OK on fasch
 FTBFS on fasch

4.6.1-9  OK on fasch
 FTBFS on fasch
 FTBFS on fasch
 FTBFS on fano

etc.

I would very much like to understand the changes on both buildd
machines that allow the package to build, or cause it to FTBFS.

Bug#643771: initscripts: hostname is set to FQDN; /etc/hostname not read or hostname.sh not executed?

2011-09-29 Thread Wouter Van Hemel
Package: initscripts
Version: 2.88dsf-13.11
Severity: normal

Hello,

Since yesterday, `hostname` returns the FQDN and also $HOSTNAME is set to the
FQDN.

/etc/hostname contains just the hostname (a single word) and is readable, so I
assume /etc/init.d/hostname.sh somehow doesn't read /etc/hostname anymore.

Perhaps this is related to the /run switch? Either hostname.sh isn't executed
or /etc/hostname isn't read.

/etc is on the / partition, as is /boot, so this is not a mount problem.

X behaved funnily as applications couldn't connect to the X server anymore due
to the hostname changing – probably during an apt update, or perhaps some
daemon crashed. While the problem appears minor, the consequences might be more
serious, depending on what exactly is in /etc/hostname, /etc/hosts and friends.

Thanks for your time,

  Wouter

Upstream has committed this patch [1] which returns a proper error message

Bug#643772: develock comes with absolutely no documentation

2011-09-29 Thread Thomas Koch
Package: develock-el
Version: 0.36-2
Severity: important

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi,

develock comes with absolutely no documentation, no info pages, nothing in
/usr/share/doc. I consider this a major usability issue.
My questions are:
- - what exactly do the different collors mean?
- - what exactly is highlighted by develock?
- - How can I customize the colors?
- - How can I customize the maximum line length to a more modern value (say
100-120)?

Bug#640659: New upstream (7.0~b2)

2011-09-29 Thread Sebastian Dalfuß
> iceweasel-l10n 6.0 works fine with iceweasel 7.

It doesn't, the preferences panels "Privacy" and "Advanced" are not accessible
(empty window) if iceweasel-l10n is installed.
