I don't know, but this is not "an identical error"; it has nothing to do
with this bug. You should open a separate bug report.

Is that 2011.06-3 or earlier?

Could you please try downgrading to 2011.03-6 in wheezy and see if
the problem abates?

Hi, I have found the problem!

The problem was the /tmp partition mounted with the noexec option.
Remounting it with sudo mount -o remount, exec /tmp solved my problem.

Hello,

Thanks for reporting this.

Is console 4 (Alt+F4) saying anything useful?

Can you try the daily builds which you'll find from
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer? Preferrably the
"netboot" image.

Do the attached patches work?

Alternatively, if you get a chance to test the kernel from sid or

The generic block walk callback looks like overkill, but we'll need it

While this *can* also be written as -Wl,-z,defs, I'm not sure there's any

I'm sorry, but I really do not understand what you mean and what the
problem in awesome is.

Could you elaborate please?

Sorry for the long silence. Looks like there was no response from
upstream; I'd suggest trying v3.0 from sid, experimental, or upstream
and then sending a quick reminder to the alsa-devel list (cc-ing
Bartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz ) with the new details
if it doesn't work.

Thanks,

I'm not the debsums maintainer :)

But if you want me to review anything, you should send it in a way that
makes it convenient for me to review (like with attached patches to the

On closer examination, this is probably such not a different issue after
all. The output of `configure' is not quite what it should be:

,
| checking for sys/types.h... no
| checking for sys/stat.h... no
| checking for stdlib.h... no
| checking for string.h... no
| checking for memory.h... no

| checking for inttypes.h... no
| checking for stdint.h... no
| checking for unistd.h... no
`

In config.log I find 106 occurrences of

/usr/include/gnu/stubs.h:9:27: fatal error: gnu/stubs-64.h: No such file or
directory

All are similar to this one:

configure:7051: gcc -m64 -c -g -O2 -D_GNU_SOURCE conftest.c >&5

Bug#635694: alsa-base: alsa bug 0005418: snd-hda-intel: alsa force-reload required to avoid Dummy output

2011-07-29 Thread r.duc...@gmail.com
Hello,

Pulseaudio has been installed automatically by wheezy. I definitely do not need
pulseaudio: 5 days ago I did not even know this package.

I tried the following tests.

TEST 1: Created a basic /etc/asound.conf (the file did not exist)

pcm.pulse {
type pulse
}

ctl.pulse {
type pulse
}

pcm.!default {
type pulse
}

ctl.!default {
type pulse
}

rebooted: no sound (Dummy device)

TEST2: Installed pavucontrol.
No sound, only Dummy device is seen (see figure).

TEST3: I tried to stop/remove pulseaudio but I failed: it always was there:
* Tried to pulseaudio --kill with both user and root and pulseaudio still there
* Tried update-rc.d pulseaudio disable and reboot and pulseaudio still there
* Tried update-rc.d -f pulseaudio remove and reboot and pulseaudio still there
I'm reticent to uninstall an automatically installed package... should I do
that?

So all in all I cannot conclude that the problem comes from pulseaudio.
Actually if this was the case, why alsa force-reload gives me back the sound
and the Internal Analog Audio Stereo?

Thanks for your help.

Then please make the wildmidi package recommend freepats, but demote
it to a suggests for the libwildmidi1 shared library package. Adrian
has already pointed out the main rationale, but in addition please
keep the space restrictions on installation media (i.e. CDs) in mind.

Add the following to rc.lua:

  function timeout_sleep()
local f = io.popen('sleep 5', 'r')
local s = f:read('*l')
f:close()
  end
  ts = timer({ timeout = 10 })
  ts:add_signal('timeout', timeout_sleep)
  ts:start()

You will notice that awesome becomes unusable every 10 seconds for
5 seconds. We think this should happen in the background without
blocking the UI.

This issue was raised in bug #447040. However it was not fixed. I'm
still getting emails that saying I'm not using bayes so it can clean the
database.

See also LP: #165184, comment 37 and 38.

/usr/sbin/amavisd-new-cronjob could be changed to check if use_bayes is
set to 0:

sa-clean)
grep -q "use_bayes 0" /etc/spamassassin/local.cf ||
do_amavis_cmd "/usr/bin/sa-learn --sync --force-expire"

Or it can be checked for in cron.daily/amavisd-new in a similar way.

It's not opt-in for all packages, any package using "dh" and CDBS is
already using dpkg-buildflags... so we should definitely get some
statistics before deciding to keep this by default.

Can you do the work of collecting those statistics? Tollef has access
to a big machine where building all package takes 14h. Roger Leigh used
it for that kind of research.

Maybe you can do the rebuild without -Werror=format-security and just grep
the log to find out those that would fail.

Well, the point of the "strip" operation is to drop the build flags we're
injecting by default so as long as we're able to write all flags that
we're injecting in a way that doesn't require the use of the space, we
should be fine.

http://bugs.debian.org/616066#70 (attached patch, Git branch, and Gitweb).
Let me know if you’d like them in another form.

Hm. Could you report this to alsa-de...@alsa-project.org, cc-ing
Takashi Iwai and this bug log?

Some of the hints at
http://alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Help_To_Debug_Intel_HDA also
might help.

Thanks,

Bug#634306: closed by Siegfried-Angel Gevatter Pujals

2011-07-29 Thread Olivier Berger
Hi.

I'm not sure if everything's working correctly, but it seems that 5 days after
this supposedly uploaded update, unstable is still 0.8.0-1 as per
http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/gnome-activity-journal.html

Any clue what's wrong ?

Thanks in advance.

This is not going to happen. awesome is not multithreaded, so obviously
reading from something which is blocked (sleep) is going to block
awesome in its event loop.

This has always been the case and will always be, until someone
implements some threading. It's up to you (the developer) to not make
awesome blocks on reading blocked stuff.

As far as I recall from discussions with the Author the changes for
3.3.6 are not as significant, but I'll keep your offer in mind for
future versions :)

I listened to a few random ones; IMHO one recognises they are

them, but they are certainly acceptable.

Dear Maintainer,
reviewing the translated German package description I found some spelling
errors for GCJ and GCC which upstream itself writes in capitals.
The attached patch will fix it.

Bug#602090: automount: syntax error in nsswitch config near [ syntax error ]

2011-07-29 Thread Cristian Ionescu-Idbohrn
I'm seeing this too on a squeeze box.

In my case, I don't touch /etc/nsswitch.conf. I have it identical to
/usr/share/base-files/nsswitch.conf. For me, commenting out the line:

+auto.master

from /etc/auto.master resolved that problem. I do have two entries:

mount-point map

at the end of /etc/auto.master, which I can now access without any
complains from automount.

Can anyone explain what the point with that line:

+auto.master

is. I read the auto.master(5) man page, but it is not clear to me
what the above line is useful for.

Cheers,

If you're writing Lua code, you're a developer. :)

The problem is that you are reading an output which is not terminated.
The usual solution for such problem is to run the command in background,
using something like:

awful.util.spawn("ls > /tmp/foo &")

And then read and parse /tmp/foo when the command is over. This is the
common hack you'll find in widgets, etc… for command being long to
respond.

You can also probably use a D-Bus signal sending the data to update your
widget or the like, when your command is over (that remove the need of a
temporary file).

After searching in the wiki, I think Bashets is what you are looking
for:

For several days, I have been using the following splitted rule, with a
baud rate specification at 38400 for the Wacom devices. It is working
very well for me.

SUBSYSTEM=="tty", KERNEL=="ttyS[0-9]*", ATTRS{id}=="FUJ02e5",
ACTION=="add|change", RUN+="/lib/udev/inputattach --daemon --baud 19200 --w8001

yes.

I have not the expertise to determine which driver is better, but evdev
seems promising for multitouch. I could submit a bug report to
xserver-xorg-input wacom as soon as I have time.

Bug#546401: sysv-rc: Please reintroduce support for /etc/rc.boot

It may have been declared obsolete (like Bach's music
has been) but that doesn't mean it IS obsolete. And I
will explain you why, if you allow me to do so :

In any exclusively dependency-based approach, there is
simply no way to specify "I want this script to be run
AFTER all the rest, whatever the rest might be".

If there is no way left to do it, this can be considered
as a serious disadvantage -even a bug- of the new system.

Unless -of course- you apply the rc.boot idea, which
is a concept both clean and unobstrusive, applicable
equally to dependency-based and not dependency-based
infraestructures.

Dirtier. Uglier. Unnecessary.

Not practical. Not elegant.

Prone to leave dangling symlinks. In general leaves more room
to errors, whether caused during human intervention or by update-rc.

Makes much more difficult to distinguish local sysadmin
configuration from package-managed scripts.

Makes configuration bloat.

> It is my recommended way forward, and
> allow for one consistent way to handle scripts run early during boot.

Of course I agree that's the way to go if
you need them to run early during boot.

... but a premise for rc.boot is that the scripts placed
there are executed (by alphabetic order) in LAST place.

> Happy hacking,
> --

I am worried.
Sometimes I get the impression there's a
"fifth column" of Linux developers paid
by Microsoft to hinder its development.

Bug#635870: Missing alias for javascript folder

2011-07-29 Thread Wolfgang Schulze-Zachau
Package: mantis
Version: 1.1.8+dfsg-10
Severity: important
Tags: squeeze

The default apache.conf file for mantis does not contain an alias for
the javascript folder. However, the default apache configuration in
debian does have that alias (in
/etc/apache2/conf.d/javascript-common.conf), which leads to the fact
that none of the javascript files are loaded and much of the
functionality in mantis is crippled (e.g. the search filter box cannot
be minimized).

This can be fixed by simply adding an alias to the mantis apache.conf
file, e.g.

Alias /javascript /usr/share/mantis/www/javascript

Bug#635873: fails to import quilt patches specifying --patchlevel

2011-07-29 Thread martin f krafft
Package: git-buildpackage
Version: 0.5.26
Severity: minor
File: /usr/bin/gbp-pq

This is valid quilt patch series file syntax, as far as I can tell:

  % cat debian/patches/series
  contrib/scripts/mdadd.diff -p1
  contrib/docs/raid5-vs-raid10.diff -p1
  contrib/docs/superblock_formats.diff -p1
  contrib/docs/md.txt.diff -p1
  contrib/docs/jd-rebuilding-raid.diff -p1
  debian/conffile-location.diff -p1
  debian/disable-incremental.diff -p1
  fixes/linker-flag-z-now.diff -p1

However, gbp fails to import this, as it assumes the -p option to be part of
the filename:

  % gbp-pq --verbose import
  […]
  gbp:debug: git ['apply', '--index',
'debian/patches/contrib/scripts/mdadd.diff -p1'] []
  fatal: can't open patch 'debian/patches/contrib/scripts/mdadd.diff -p1': No
such file or directory
  gbp:error: git returned 128
  gbp:error: Couldn't run git apply

I think it would be good if gbp-pq honoured and even used the -p option.

Thanks,

2011-07-29 Thread Christoph Egger
Hi!

First of all you missed to send the a copy of your ITP bugs to
debian-devel as per devrev [0]. Also Horde_Util is not a valid package
name as it contains upper case caracters and an underscore. Please fix.

Regards

Christoph

Bug#635843: [binutils] segmentation fault in libbfd

2011-07-29 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Nicolas Limare wrote:

> This is a multiuser system, and some users use it to build

I don't have any better advice than "ionice -c 3 nice find / -name
core\*". If a core dump was produced, it would be in a directory with
source files.

Maybe "last" could give some hint of who was logged in at the time and
one could find some leads that way. Otherwise I would suggest we
treat it as an unsolved mystery, close the bug, and hope it happens
again.

ld.bfd certainly has some known segfaults that this could have been:
e.g., see Bug#422147, #577691, #274929, #607220, #425553.

Thanks.

Do you have a good patch? that one is far from being reliable (sa reads *.cf
and ~/.spamassassin/*.cf).

I agree the patch isn't covering all cases.

Can you tell me which files I need to check? Or should I just check the

at least all .cf in /etc/spamassassin/** and ~.spamassassin. But maybe some
perl snippet would be easier. I'll see if I can come up with a better
solution later.

How did shadow behave before this change?

I think that it could read successfully the files, but then it probably
destroyed the links every time a change was committed.

I would expect the same behavior from PAM when passwords are changed.

Maybe under those conditions it's better to explicitly not support such
setup and fail.

PackageSpec is not supported in the current dpkg version so you can't
really use it until my branch gets merged and a new dpkg uploaded.

Or you should at least be able to deal with the case where it returns an
empty value.

And I don't really get the output format... why 2 \n after each field
value?

So you skip it if PackageSpec returns nothing.

That's quite some code duplicated. It would probably be worth to factorize
the code.

The review is not complete because I think the first issue above is
already a blocker.

Maybe you should take it over then, if you're interested :)

Just replied. But in general if you have a branch, send the changes as
a series of patches easier to review individually.

It's 2011.06-2, but I don't see any relevant changes between -2 and
-3.

perl -MMail::SpamAssassin -e 'my $spamtest =

Bug#635880: add python support in fai-do-scripts

2011-07-29 Thread Thomas Lange
Package: fai-client
Version: 3.4.8
Severity: wishlist

From: "Matthews, Solomon (TI)"

It would be excellent to have support for Python scripting in fai-do-scripts.
This would allow anyone who wishes to use Python in configuration scripts to do
so simply by including Python in the NFSROOT packages.

Here is an implementation based on the existing support for Perl scripting.

Index: bin/fai-do-scripts

Currently I am manually adding this support to the instance of fai-do-scripts
in each NFSROOT created by fai-setup (I don?t wish to edit the system
fai-do-scripts instance as it is under package management).

I have successfully used this approach over the past year to build many Lenny,
Squeeze and Wheezy systems, so I am confident that Python scripting works as
expected.

Please feel free to use my example implementation above if desired.

Bug#635881: xpdf fails to show a title given with the -title option for compressed files

2011-07-29 Thread Jörg-Volker Peetz
Package: xpdf
Version: 3.02-18
Severity: minor

Thank you again for your fixes.

But there remains a minor issue concerning the "-title" option of xpdf with a
compressed file, e.g., beta.pdf.gz or a file without the ending .pdf, e.g.
xx_pdf:

$ xpdf -title "new title" beta.pdf.gz

and

$ xpdf -title "new title" xx_pdf

don't show the "new title".

This seems to be due to the part

   && title="Xpdf: $1"

left in the lines 52, 55, 58, and 61.

Bug#625993: Patch works

2011-07-29 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Hi!

I build a KMyMoney package with the patch imported.

The whole thing works. Finally I have upto current Mastercard transactions
in KMyMoney again.

Please find my test package at:

http://martin-steigerwald.de/tmp/debian/kmymoney-bug-625993/

(I will delete this sometime after a fixed version is available officially.)

Please include the patch in the official package.

Benjamin, please test the package. I build for 64-Bit only. Its signed
with my GPG key.

Its easy enough to make one for 32-Bit:

- apt-get source kmymoney
- sudo apt-get build-dep kmymoney
- cd kmymoney-4.5.3
- quilt import ../removeLeadingzerosandsoon.patch
- quilt push (don´t think its strictly necessary, but it tests whether the
patch applies)
- quilt applied should show the patch as applied
- dpkg-buildpackage -j8 -rfakeroot (eventually add -uc -us)

Thanks,

Do you happen to have any of the following packages installed in this
chroot?
  libacl1-dev
  libapparmor-dev
  libasound2-dev
  libcap-dev
  libsbuf-dev
  systemtap-sdt-dev

I see, much to my surprise, that libc6-dev is not the only package shipping
files in this directory; so if you have one of these packages installed, the
/usr/include/sys directory will fail to be replaced by a symlink as
intended.

So that's definitely a bug and needs to be fixed. I'm not sure if it's the
bug that Tim and you are seeing?

Same problem just after I installed the new kernel
linux-image-3.0.0-1-amd64 and rebooted.

I also had the same problem on Jul 22 (though I hadn't changed the
kernel).

This is not a but in monotone, it's in the package libbotan-1.8.2
which suddenly changed from libbotan-1.8.2.so to libbotan-1.8.13.so
without changing package name. I've reported this, bug#633775.

In the mean time, my solution is to downgrade to libbotan-1.8.2
version 1.8.12-1 and hold it until it upgrades to something above
1.8.13-1.

Cheers,
Richard

Thanks Moritz, for forwading this to me.

I probably should register myself for the package in Launchpad as well
(I do for other packages).

As upstream gave me an updated version, I'll take care of it this afternoon.

Thanks for your contribution.

I already fixed the bug in svn and I forwarded those files
to upstream.

Cheers,

Bug#635861: amavisd-new-cronjob should check if bayes is switched off

2011-07-29 Thread Rudy Gevaert
Indeed that works. I tried it, however when you run it as the root user
it creates ~root/.spammassasin/config file.

I have tried to use the /usr/sbin/amavisd-new-cronjob script, but I'm
stuck with the quoting. :(

Indeed. Patch forthcoming. Are there any other options we need to take
care of?

It has to run as user amavis, I'll create a real fix in git later together
with my 2.7.0 things.
