Bug#630451: debug statement left in python-couchdb

2011-06-14 Thread Andreas Unterkircher
Package: python-couchdb
Version: 0.6-1
Severity: minor

In /usr/share/pyshared/couchdb/json.py line 125 it seems a debug message has
been left.
'Using stdlib json' gets printed everytime when using this library.

A quick fix is:

Bug#595298: [Pkg-oss4-maintainers] Bug#595298: Bug#595298:

2011-06-14 Thread Rémi Bernon
Hi,

I can confirm that the 4.2-build2004 version of oss4 is working fine
for me, and I've been using it for a few months now, but that's the
version I've packaged myself, not the one on your SVN...

However, I only updated the orig.tar.gz to the new upstream version
and the patches files so that they apply on it (the biggest change was
in os_cmd.patch where an additional line was introduced -- see the
patch file I've provided -- as the other patches apply with a few line
offsets). So if you just did the same, there shouldn't be any
differences.

Bug#629902: dh_installinit: should support LSB compliant scripts

Are you sure?

The failing code from my example nflogipac.postinst tells me that it was
added by dh_installinit:

| # Automatically added by dh_installinit
| if [ -x "/etc/init.d/nflogipac" ]; then
| update-rc.d nflogipac defaults >/dev/null
| if [ -x "`which invoke-rc.d 2>/dev/null`" ]; then
|   invoke-rc.d nflogipac start || exit $?
| else
|   /etc/init.d/nflogipac start || exit $?
| fi
| fi
| # End automatically added section

A failure from the update-rc.d cannot make postinst fail, because the
exit code is not checked. So when the initscript returns 6 invoke-rc.d
(correctly?) passes on this value and makes the postinst fail. So in my
view the reason for a postinst failure is unrelated to update-rc.d. Can
you explain your reasoning?

Also you seem to have omitted the reassigning part. Was this
intentional?

Helmut

Both changes accomplish nearly the same thing. This section of the ConfigGet
function (list) is supposed to return a list of all supported devices. In the
original version, the entire filename of the override file is appended to the
list from the tar.gz, without separator.

The list would look like:
... 201e:2009 230d:0001 :6500/etc/usb_modeswitch.d/12d1:14fe

Then the lsearch function would not find the override file, because the
lsearch is looking for just the filename, not the entire path. And because of
the missing separator, it would fail anyway. The returned list will be empty.
Attachedar a patch adding some logging and a resulting logfile showing the
above behaviour.

The patch adds a separator and only adds the filename (=usb vendor:product) to
the list.

Reexamining the codepaths, it seems that overriding a config which is already
present in the tar.gz would work, because the original file is correctly put
into the list (from the tar.gz, not the override file) and matched. Adding a
new device wouldn't work because of the above mentioned reasons.

I hope i have explained the issue a bit better now.

Bug#630465: Please build or include sql/pgpool-{recovery,regclass,walrecrunning}

2011-06-14 Thread Kari Pahula
Package: pgpool2
Version: 3.0.4-1
Severity: wishlist

The sql directory in pgpool source directory has buildable modules,
pgpool-recovery, pgpool-regclass and pgpool-walrecrunning. Would it
be possible to get those built and packaged too? I'm not sure how
much of an complication it is that they'd need to be built against
postgresql-server-dev-* and there can be multiple versions of those in
unstable at the same time.

Alternatively, having them included as source and providing a script
to build and package them could work. It'd be a nice feature to be
able to avoid needing to build them on a production server.

Bug#630466: libreoffice: HTML exports from calc suck

2011-06-14 Thread Michal Suchanek
Package: libreoffice
Version: 1:3.3.2-2+b1
Severity: normal

There are numerous issues with HTML exports from Calc
 - the "automatic" colors (the default black on white) are not recorded
in the export. I am not sure if these "automatic" colors can change.
LibreOffice does not seem to respond to theming of other parts of the
system. Either way, the "automatic" colors must be exported for the
document to look correctly when viewed in a web browser which may
have text and background color different from LibreOffice.
 - the text automatically spanning multiple cells (when it overflows a
cell and the neigbour cell is empty) does not do so in HTML
 - alignment is not reflected in HTML. Specifically I use right and left
aligned columns next to each other with increased indent added to the
left aligned column. There is no space between the two in the HTML

I found the "culprit", in the meeting minutes from the ftpmasters:

- We moved the Contents files so their place makes more sense now and
  also split them by component.

cron.d/100syncarchive from the packages code does an rsync of the files
from the local available mirror and keeps the timestamp ... of the
symlink. I am adding -L to the rsync calls, doing a test run ...

... which actually means that the filelist for packages in _main_ only
work for wheezy/sid/experimental for now (as long as the symlinks are
kept). This is a workaround, not a fix, thus I'm leaving this bugreport
open for the time being.

 Enjoy,
Rhonda

Bug#630467: ITP: pluxml -- simple file-based blog engine

2011-06-14 Thread Tanguy Ortolo
Package: wnpp
Owner: Tanguy Ortolo
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: pluxml
  Version : 5.1
  Upstream Author : PluXml team
* URL : http://pluxml.org/
* License : GPL-3
  Programming Lang: PHP
Description : simple file-based blog engine

PluXml is a content management system for blogs or simple websites. It
allows to use categories, tags (or keywords), comments and syndication
feeds. It uses no database but stores all the data in XML files.

The version 5.1 is not published yet, but I shall wait for it to package
it, because it will be the first multilingual release (the current
version 5.0 is only in French).

I think this blog engine is worth being packaged for Debian for several
reasons:
* although blogging has become an relatively common activity on the Web,
we do not have many blog engines, specially oriented to regular users
  (that is, not command-line or VCS oriented ones);
* most blog engine require running a relational database server, which
may be a problem for small personal servers (for instance ARM-based
plug computers: this is actually my case).
In fact, I think such a blog engine may be very interesting for projects
such as the FreedomBox.

The PluXml project is developped by a small team that, for what I have
seen, is not really used to the global free software community, at least
to our vision of free software. For instance, they did not know what
Debian was and what a packaging system was, and they currently use a
non-public VCS repository. But this is not because of a bad will, only
some lack of time, information or whatever; in fact I after some
exchanges with them I can tell that they are willing to cooperate and
that this project would certainly benefit from a cooperation with the
Debian project (and they happen to share this opinion).

ah, it seems like the documentation is unclear about which variables are
writeable and which are read-only.

e.g. cdbs guarantees you, that DEB_VERSION is set to an apropriate value
(presumably by reading debian/changelog), but you (as the user) cannot
override the "full Debian version" in debian/rules file (and thus
provide conflicting information in debian/rules and debian/changelog)

the same goes for DEB_*PACKAGES: debian/control is the canonical source
for which packages to build, and DEB_*PACKAGES parses the file for you
and gives you that information in a nice variable for you to _read_ the
values from, and not to change the values.

i'd suggest to make a distinction between "read-write" and "readonly"
variables in the documentation, and replace "use" by "read" where
appropriate.

In that amount? Yes. On request of the release team we might ignore

That's true for testing: Packages get removed from unstable, but will
stick in testing till the dependencies are resolved. So removing
boost1.42 will still cause quite some annoyances in unstable.

Bug#629518: AMD APP licence

2011-06-14 Thread Tomasz Rybak
Hello.
I have recently opened bug requesting packaging of AMD
(#629518). Andreas Beckmann pointed out that there might be
problems with license preventing software from being
distributable in non-free. I attach license file.

Here is my quick analysis, also sent as comment to bug #629518.
I am not sure whether Debian would be considered Organization as
meant by clause 1 c (make and distribute copies of the Software
within your organization). Another problem would be with point 2 c)
(electronically transmit the Software from one computer to another
or over a network). Point 6 (US government) and 7 (export restrictions)
could be problematic, but I am not sure about Debian policy
in that regard.

IMO the additional licenses (Elf Tool Chain Project,
src/sys/sys/elf32.h, src/sys/sys/elf64.h and src/sys/sys/elf_common.h,
src/sys/sys/queue.h) resemble BSD license, but I am not a specialist.

Best regards.

Very true. Once upon a time, I need LSB compliance, I never want it, it is
imposed on me.
Just for my information : is the "Requesting program interpreter:
/lib64/ld-lsb-x86-64.so.3 " stuff introduced to deal with the /lib /lib32
/lib64 non sense of the FHS ?
Acording to
http://wiki.debian.org/Multiarch/TheCaseForMultiarch
The FHS and LSB have standardized the x86_64 architecture to use /lib64
as
   the path for 64-bit x86 libraries, with /lib reserved for 32-bit x86
libraries on such systems. This is in spite of the fact that for
performance reasons, x86_64 is the preferred ABI to use on hardware
that
   supports it.

Red Hat and SuSE have adopted this standard. Debian and Ubuntu have
declined to adopt this provision of the FHS, because the inconsistency
introduced by special-casing of x86_64 would require deep changes to
the
   packaging tools for incremental benefit.

I fully agree with the Debian position and here is what I said to the
upstream lmutil authors
fp2x@drhpcm05:/tmp$ uname -a

Bug#630466: libreoffice: HTML exports from calc suck

And you beliebve *anything* exporting HTML will produce proper HTML? No.
Proper HTML is done by hand. Even Dreamweaevr or however all the tools are
called are not producing well-formed HTML.

Then you should have done your table in a way this doesn't hapen
or format it so that the scenario doesn't happen or use a website
design where it doesn't happen. Don't expect HTML export knowing what you
will use it in it can't. And HTML doesn't have "automatic colors" anyway.

Of course not. The text is in one cell. That it just overflows that cell
is so, but how should Calc know? it's text *inside that cell*. If you don't
proper formatting in your sheet, don't blame others for that,

Your point from the export is? Honestly, I don't see this as a "normal" bug.
(I actually don't see this as a bug per se)

Indeed you have, and very clearly so. Thanks for that !

I prepared a git commit for the packaging repository that incorporates your
changes and attributes them to you. What do you think: can I push this commit?

Cheers,

Subject: [PATCH] Fix /etc/usb_modeswitch.d overriding.

In some cases (e.g. new device files not in tarball), overriding
device configuration files from /etc/usb_modeswitch.d failed to work
due to incoherent values appended to configList.

The 02_allow_override_from_etc.patch change fixes that in the most
common case (when there is a tarball available).

The 02.1_fix_no-tarball_configList.patch change alters the upstream
code to be coherent too.

Just to clarify - you consider this bug to be closed and the failure
was most probably caused by DNS (which could be checked by putting
hostname to /etc/hosts).

BTW... Rick, I am still waiting for sendmail to move to Berkeley DB
5.1, so we can finish the transition to db5.1

Bug#630360: linux-2.6: sporadic kernel bug while trying to hibernate system

Ok, next time I will send photo.

Kernel 2.6.36 was perfectly hibernating.
I noticed that first affected kernel was 2.6.38. So I tried newest kernel
from unstable (2.6.39), but defect remained.

Bug#630414: gtkpod silently crashes every time on exit

2011-06-14 Thread Matteo F. Vescovi

Package: gtkpod
Version: 2.0.1-1

Hi Etienne!

Could you test if mounting the device on a /media sub-directory solves
the issue? The new policy for the program is that the mount point should
be under that directory. I've already contacted the upstream maintainer
and we'll try to figure it out.

Let me know any evolution.

Thanks.

Bug#630424: Maybe a Problem with "tip22"

2011-06-14 Thread Edwin Kwan

Hi,

The screen shot in Attilio's bug report was done by me on my Indy. I
am not experienced in this beginning of the universe kind of code. But
I found the following clues which may be useful.

	Please refer to bug 452798
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=452798). Here is
message #15 from Guido:

On Sun, Nov 25, 2007 at 01:02:25PM +0100, Martin Michlmayr wrote:

How much work is 64 bit support?

It's not the 64bit support, things are simply not fitting into the
memory segment we use anymore:

Tip22 finds this memory map on my Indy:

1) Free Memory(3) segment found at (0x88002000,0x8874)
2) Free Memory(3) segment found at (0x8880,0x89002000)
3) Free Memory(3) segment found at (0x896f2000,0x9400)

(1) is where the running kernel + initrd goes. (2) is where we tell the
prom to download the tftpboot image to and (3) is lots of free space.
The 64bit kernel (7MB) is just so much bigger than the 32bit one.

Attached is a hack to get things booting again (so installer testing can
proceed). It puts the tftp boot file into (3) and the initrd into (2) -
it succesfully boots a kernel with an initramfs on my R5K Indy. I'll
have to change some of the reservation code so we don't waste so much
ram before I can fix this for real though.
Cheers,
 -- Guido

It seems to me that what Guido wanted was done in Lenny but not in
Squeeze. In the screen shot, "initrd" was being copied into 0x8880
by the Squeeze image. Wouldn't it overwrite the loader?

I downloaded the Squeeze "tip22" package, and here is the beginning of
the "ld.script.IP22" script:

I actually prefer the current behavior. Also, your preferred behavior is
more expensive, regarding machine resources (and would therefore be
slower, though that depends on the depth of your collection). So I think
it's a good idea that it isn't default.

Other software being broken is not an excuse for all software being

The "automatic" colors in Calc are exported as undefined in HTML. That is wrong.

It does know, how else would it render the text over the other cells?

Then the HTML export should include it. It sets all padding explicitly
to 0 resulting in this issue.

What is it then?

If the HTML export is not meant to be useful then disable it completely.

Bug#616560: umountfs: nothing to unmount if / is on UBI volume

2011-06-14 Thread Jonathan Michalon
Hi,

Just installed a netboot'ed Sheevaplug with UBIFS yesterday and I ran into this
problem (and only this one :)) too.
I applied a quick ugly fix in the same way as the author.

I neither know what would be the right way here, but certainly not that one.
Would a pattern searching for any ' / ' without ^rootfs do the trick?
Or if rootfs is always the first line, replace the 0 in the current expression
by a 1 (see man sed) and just search for a "/" as second field?
Or perhaps a match with both a '/' or a ':' (think of NFS mounted / or similar).

It may also be possible to get ride of that PROTECTED_MOUNTS hack completely. I
see that several mountpoints are already skipped, why not add "rootfs" and
"none"? These are the only skipped entries on both sheevaplug and my desktop.
But I'm for sure no specialist and may not be aware of much more complicated
setups…

I hope to make this bug one step forward on its fix path.

Bug#589532: still does not depend on xorriso, although it should

2011-06-14 Thread George Danchev
Followup-For: Bug #589532

Hi Colin,

I agree that 'Depends: xorriso' is too strong for grub-common,
but why not just split another binary package grub-image|-rescue
(a better name could be suggeted) which contains grub-mkrescue
and grub-mkimage and which package could depends on xorriso?
Then grub-common could even suggest that hypothetical
grub-image|-rescue package. It is clear that if people have such
a package installed they want to create images.

And that is bad how? You get black if you don't specify fonts. As said
above, either fix up the HTML after it or use a website design which works.

Because it _renders_ it this way. The *content* is assigned *to that one cell*.
What gets exported is not rendering but *content*.

Nothing. A not ideal export and someone who thinks stuff he hasn't specified
should be exported.

Thanks for the analysis and suggestion.

There is actually already a note about read-write vs. readonly on TODO.

Bug#630414: gtkpod silently crashes every time on exit

2011-06-14 Thread Matteo F. Vescovi

Package: gtkpod
Version: 2.0.1-1

Once you've tested the "mount point" solution and it doesn't help, could
you possibly get the debug symbols, run them through valgrind and attach
the output? That would really help a lot.

Thanks for your time.

Bug#630472: dpkg-dev: Please add Distribution to .dsc generated by dpkg-source -b

2011-06-14 Thread Roger Leigh
Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.16.0.3
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Attached is a patch to add the distribution to the .dsc

This is currently only available in the changelog or the
.changes. However, tools like sbuild, which need to build
in a distribution-specific chroot can't work out what the
distribution is without unpacking the source tree and
inspecting the changelog (which is impractical for a
number of reasons, least of all efficiency). This requires
that sbuild be told the distribution by the user, and there
can sometimes be problems as a result e.g. uploading
experimental packages to unstable due to using "-d unstable"
out of habit.

This isn't an issue for buildds, because they know the
distribution they are building for; this is intended for
developers doing manual or semi-automated builds. Because
sbuild consumes .dscs as its input for building, having
the nominal distribution in the dsc will mean that the
distribution will not require specifying under normal
sbuild usage, which will decrease the changes of
accidental uploads to the wrong distribution. It also
makes backporting easier--sbuild will default to building
in the correct stable/oldstable chroot.

Roger

Bug#630473: pacemaker: add independent resource set within group

2011-06-14 Thread Vladimir Stavrinov
Package: pacemaker
Version: 1.0.11-1.2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

It is desirable and advisable in group resource to have feature like that in
collocation where set of independent resources are enclosed in parentheses. The
one example is set of vz containers running on drbd. The group is used to start
all of them after file system, but unwanted dependency prevent starting one
container if previous was not started.

Thank you for investigating further and report that the problem
clearly lies in udhcpc.

Well, sorry, but going back to ISC DHCP client is more or less out of
question for memory and size impact.

It would be interesting to have some debug output from the DHCP
server. Does it receive the client requests? Does it send a DHCPOFFER
answer? Etc, etc.

Similarly, more debug from udhcpc could help. Dunno if it has a
verbose command-line option, but you get the idea..:-)

Bug#630474: linux 3.0 package names should probably not include SUBLEVEL

2011-06-14 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 3.0.0~rc2-1~experimental.1
Severity: normal

SUBLEVEL is reserved for -stable in kernel 3.0 and
newer. As Debian kernels did not include the part
of the version number used for stable updates in
the past, I expect that you are not planning to
include them now.

Thus, the package names should be linux-image-3.0-*,
not linux-image-3.0.0-*.

Bug#630475: otrs2: JSON.pm not found, json.pl missing

2011-06-14 Thread Christian Swertz
Package: otrs2
Version: 2.4.9+dfsg1-3+squeeze1
Severity: normal

Tried to upgrade OTRS from 2.4.9 to 3.0.8 (unstable) without dependencies to
unstable.
After updating OTRS said JSON.pm missing in @INC. But JSON.pm was there, only
json.pl was missing in /cgi-bin/ I couldn't solve the problem. Thus I
downgraded. That worked fine.

For an actual break, you'd need a more complex setup with extra layers like
colorgcc or distcc, and in that case it might be argued to be an user
configuration error (except that there's no proper configuration in such
cases other than creating the symlink yourself).

But even when ccache is used by itself, it will "merely" not work.

Yeah. If you want to ever use distcc when the server might be on a
different architecture, you need to invoke $(gcc -dumpmachine)-gcc.
The current version of ccache will handle plain "gcc" but not one with
explicitely specified architecture.

> What package should I install and

ccache and recent gcc.
Try to run "x86_64-linux-gnu-gcc" -> no ccache.

kept and the patch applied to the tar?

Yes.

I've changed the packaging so the patch is applied to the tar. You
can find my packaging attempt at

Please could you provide a debdiff against the current package? i.e.
the output of "debdiff $stable.dsc yours.dsc".

Hi,

/etc/apache2/conf.d/phppgadmin is a symlink to
/etc/phppgadmin/apache.conf. Both files are included in the package,
i.e. not created from some postinst. With that, this bug should not
really happen, as unpacking is done before executing the postinst.

This looks like a filesystem issue. I could not reproduce the bug on
ext3 - which filesystem are you using?

Bug#630477: Split localechooser in language then country to get speech synthesis right

2011-06-14 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: localechooser
Version: 2.37
Severity: normal

Hello,

Software speech synthesis is now commited in d-i. There is just a small
glitch left in the early steps of d-i:

- the language question gets asked in english, software speech asks it with an
  english voice
- the country question gets asked in the selected language, software
speech asks it with an english voice
- speech synthesis switches to the selected language+country voice.
- the rest proceeds completely in the selected language.

The issue here is that speech synthesis language switch should have a
chance to happen between language and country selection. The simplest
way would probably to split the localechooser in two, so that espeakup
can insert language selection in between. Another way would be to make
localechooser make a call to espeakup at the right time, but it looks
more complex for not much good reason.

Bug#630478: Problem with size of virtual floppies

2011-06-14 Thread John Summerfield
Package: virtinst
Version: 0.500.3-2
Severity: important
Justification: Some functionality is unavailable

virt-install appears to convert existing disk image files sizes to
gigabytes at around line 650 of VirtualDisk.py which has this code:
newsize = float(newsize) / 1024.0 / 1024.0 / 1024.0
Even with floppy disk images. Whether the above assumption is actually what
happens, the
consequence is that I get this error:

Bug#589532: still does not depend on xorriso, although it should

2011-06-14 Thread George Danchev
Followup-For: Bug #589532

I forgot to comment on the devscrpts use pattern, which tries to
be as flexible as possible: "install $ABC package to do $XYZ"

> The wishlist item is that perhaps grub-mkrescue should explicitly
> advise installing the xorriso package if you don't have it.

While the devscripts approach is fine for non urgent tasks devscripts
provides, I believe a more safer approach should be taken when it comes
to tasks of creating rescue images.

There is a sutble scenario, a newbie might be trapped, when they are to
be adviced by grub-mkrescue (while being in the middle of nowhere) to
install xorriso and when no package repository could be reached for whatever
trivial reasons. It is quite unlikely an experienced user to be trapped like
that, but then again, they are very likely to find a decent way out.

That being said, I'd go for putting an extra safety net to guarantee the
successful operation completion on time, by splitting another "grub-rescue"
binary package which would then depend on xorriso, to avoid subtle surprises.
This way the intentions would better match the reality, in my opinion.

Bug#630475: otrs2: JSON.pm not found, json.pl missing

2011-06-14 Thread Thomas Mueller

Hi Christian

Tried to upgrade OTRS from 2.4.9 to 3.0.8 (unstable) without dependencies to
unstable.
After updating OTRS said JSON.pm missing in @INC. But JSON.pm was there, only
json.pl was missing in /cgi-bin/ I couldn't solve the problem. Thus I
downgraded. That worked fine.

I suspect that /usr/share/otrs/Kernel/System/JSON.pm is not the JSON.pm
from the error message. Is the package "libjson-perl" installed? if not
-> install it. :)

If this package fixes your problem, i'll add it to the dependencies.

- Thomas

PS: otrs 3.0.x needs the libcss-minifier-perl &
libjavascript-minifier-perl package too - both not available in squeeze.
Take it from http://packages.debian.org/sid/libcss-minifier-perl and
http://packages.debian.org/sid/libjavascript-minifier-perl

In other words, wamerican is a standard package that is designed to work
well either with or without optional dictionaries-common. Nothing outside
required perl-base is needed. Not true for other wordlists.

Thanks for reassigning, Don. Since you consider that restricting stuff to
perl-base worths I will do the change.

By the way, when I mentioned File::Temp was because of tempdir, not
tempfile, so IO::File::new_tmpfile() is not a replacement. In my changes I
use system mktemp. While I'd prefer to stay with pure perl(-base) here, I
am afraid I have no other choice.

I am attaching changes as in my git repo, containing also some cosmetic
and debugging stuff.

I download manually dsniff_2.4b1+debian-19.1_i386.deb and its dependencies,
libssl1.0.0_1.0.0d-2_i386.deb and libdb5.1_5.1.25-10_i386.deb, from wheezy
repositories, since
I cannot upgrade the whole machine (it's a production gateway).

Nothing changes, here, after the dsniff upgrade:

[root:32]$dsniff -i eth0 host 192.168.0.3

Bug#630479: fluxbox: kvm/qemu resizing bug

2011-06-14 Thread Rares Aioanei
Package: fluxbox
Version: 1.3.1~dfsg1-2
Severity: normal

I have a Gentoo VM (kvm) which, when started in
Fluxbox, sometimes starts at the normal size
and resizes when necessary (when starting xorg
in the Gentoo VM) but others starts the VM with
1x1 window size or doesn't resize the window
when needed. Tested with another guest - acts
the same. With another wm it works fine and
resizes when needed.

Thanks. My guess is on imagemagick screwing up. This version should
not migrate in the meantime.

Bug#613596: libgl1-mesa-dri: Texture corruption and crashes re-introduced with 7.10.2-3

Stephen Kitt (14/06/2011):

Thanks for letting us know. Please wait a few hours until the
multiarch'd mesa is propagated on the mirrors (so that it's stored on
snapshot.debian.org), and until mesa 7.10.3 is uploaded. Then test that
version (7.10.3-1, more precisely), and if it doesn't work better than
7.10.2, mention that on the upstream bug.

Letting them know about the status with current master might be a good
idea too.

Good luck.

let's keep this bug standing until someone

I don't like this. Source package migrate and can be reuploaded in
multiple places (including distributions of derivatives) without being
rebuilt.

The Distribution is part of the .changes file and it's enough there IMO.
I don't see a good reason to change this.

I have already been bitten by this and I made a concrete suggestion
here in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=529281#22

And in fact you're mixing two concepts, the chroot to use for the build
and the target distribution.

You can still use "-d " to infer the default chroot to use but you
should not override the target distribution set in the changelog unless
the users sets another flag "--force-distribution". If the flag is
missing and the two values differ, you should just abort with an
error.

I mean dpkg-genchanges uses the value from the changelog by default and
you should not overwrite the value generated unless you're in a context
where you know that you want to overwrite it. In that case, supplying one
more parameter is not an issue (I'd rather have the buildd config provide
one more parameter than requiring the casual users to change their
habits).

I'll let some time pass for the discussion but I will probably close
#630472 or tag it wontfix.

Cheers,

Hi John, and thanks for your bugreport,

I'm coming back to you more than 7 years (and > 3 stable releases) after you
reported this bug; let's hope something can still be done about it.

What ppd files were you referring to ?

Note that since then, the foomatic database layout has widely changed. Are
those "incorrect margins" a problem with current printing spools ?

Thanks in advance and cheers,

This is what I was about to suggest you in the first place.

Then I realized that, unless the dedicated user is *automatically* added
to the "src" group, packages depending on matlab-support have to assume
that the dedicated user is not in this group.

So I think matlab-support should either automatically add the dedicated
user to the "src" group, or otherwise leave it as it is.

I'ts weird, I have same version and deps and I just tested on a couple
machines without problems.
I thinks is a configuration or/and outdated package in your machine,
does not seem proper program bug.
Can you try in another machine, please? just to eliminate suspicions.

The build dependency is:
dpkg-dev (>= 1.13.19), dpkg-dev (<= 1.14.7) | dpkg-dev (>= 1.14.11)

It used to work. Is that supposed to fail, now?

Bug#619723: cdrdao extits with ".cue:14: Timecode out of range"

Hi,

same issue here. The critical line was

After changing it to

INDEX 01 37:57:74

burning worked. Since this was also a *.cue-file generated by Brasero
I'm reassigning this bug. This seems to be the right thing to do, since
the bug could probably be fixed by making brasero produce correct
*.cue-files or by making cdrdao more fault-tolerant. Either way, this
breaks audio disc creation in a lot of cases (3 so far for me) and is
therefore a `grave' bug.

Is this still an issue with current printing spools ?

I can no longer keep this package up to date with upstream releases. It
takes too much energy for me to keep it in a good form and I don't use

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you will have enough time and attention to work on it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see

instructions how to adopt a package properly.

I'd say the scripts dir is not really suited to add tests in a modular way,
esp. once piuparts is able to log reasons for failure.

So I consider this bug report as valid :-)

IME the scripts dir is rather useful for working around buggy/otherwise
untestable packages.

The scripts dir used on piuparts.d.o is available at
http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/piuparts/piatti/org/piuparts.debian.org/etc/scripts/

I dont think so. I think running piuparts (for the whole archive) will always
be "a security risk" and should only be done in throw-away environments.

> > I didn't notice this custom scripting interface at all at that time.

see http://piuparts.debian.org/doc/README.html#_custom_scripts_with_piuparts

> > 2) This test requires that emacs is installed

make it fail gracefully if emacs is not installed. (so it will work/not fail
for all packages which dont depend on emacs)

> I am willing to "come back" to this bug at later date. However, I don't

much appreciated! :-)

(I mostly replying to this one now as its a rather easy "target" :)

There are more things to consider: wheezy and squeeze are tested less strict
than unstable, for two reasons: we really want to catch the important bugs in
$testing (and stable) and we still want to report/find bugs (thus more tests
in sid). And we also want as many packages as sensible possible tested in
$testing (and less failures found means more dependent packages tested).

But I still am careful with adding new tests to sid: piuparts.d.o still lacks
(wo)menpower to file all bugs found and IMO its more motivating to file bugs
when the backlog is smaller. If we add too many pedantic tests, the backlog
will be greater and the "piuparts test failed" status in the PTS will be less
meaningful.

All this said, I still would like to run all those tests proposed as wishlist
bugs against piuparts on piuparts.d.o! But, I wouldnt run them against the sid
suite (nor $testing nor $stable) but against a new suite, sid-pedantic or
such. I think this would give us a good compromise: sid is tested against the
(more) meaningful tests "only" (thus allowing dependent packages to be more
often tested), while we still expose packages against the "more exotic" tests.

cheers,
Holger
