Bug#557757: Jarifa package

2010-10-18 Thread Daniel Lombraña González
Hi everyone,

I have seen the changes, so thanks a lot. One thing, I have seen that
you have used my e-mail account danie...@unex.es and I would prefer
teleyi...@gmail.com because the unex.es account may expire in the
following days, so please change it.

Best regards,

Daniel

Comments/Problems:

1. Kubuntu 10.10 was detected by the installation of Grub, but upon reboot
it turned out that it was not added to grub.conf. Rerunning update-grub
added Kubuntu properly.

2. The disk had already been partitioned. Still the partitioner required
me to go through each partition and confirm it. Only the mount point
is needed.

3. The graphical desktop turned out to be the Gnome desktop. This should
be made apparent in the name.

4. Gnome reported that network (wired, eth0) was not connected. This was
due to the fact that eth0 was unmanaged. Ideally the installer should
configure this as managed, since various networking utilities (e.g.
Pidgin) do not work when networking is not managed.

They did. Maintainers being French and active on IRC in #debian-devel-fr
helps..:-)

A new version was set yesterday that implements the latter of these
suggestions. Not the former, though.

Probably (though I usually leave up to Colin or Joey to upload
debconf). We however need to ask Spanish, Portuguese and Russian
translators to fix their translations (I fixed French).

Bug#582318: Patch for the l10n upload of tpb

2010-10-18 Thread Christian PERRIER

Dear maintainer of tpb,

On Wednesday, October 13, 2010 I sent you a notice announcing my intent to
upload a
NMU of your package to fix its pending l10n issues, after an initial
notice sent on Sunday, October 10, 2010.

We finally agreed that you would do the update yourself at the end of
the l10n update round.

That time has come.

To help you out, here's the patch which I would have used for an NMU.
Please feel free to use all of it...or only the l10n part of it.

The corresponding changelog is:

Bug#600558: unblock: dma/0.0.2010.06.17-6

Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org

Hi,

Please unblock package dma

I'm really sorry to bother you again, but... the day before
I uploaded a new version of dma, with a *real* fix for
the GNU/Hurd build; this ought to be the last time, honest! :)
Attached is the debdiff - the build fix, switching to bzip2, and
another little speed-up of the build, using := instead of = for
shell commands in the rules file.

Bug#600561: gcalcli: machine readable output

2010-10-18 Thread Tollef Fog Heen
Package: gcalcli
Version: 1.4-6
Severity: wishlist

I would like to use gcalcli for integration with other services, most
notably something that allows me to get gcal-to-xmpp notifications. It
would be nice if I could get the output of events in a structured format
(say something RFC2822-like) which is easy to parse.

I have a plan to NMU the package for pending localization bugs. I can
apply this as well unless a maintainer objects.

Please note that #599937 also needs to be addressed (it should be
done by uploading the version from experimental, from what I understand).

It would be good to have a word from the maintainer(s) about all this.
It's not like MySQL is a random package where stupi dmistakes can be done.

In parted.info, section 2.1 ("Introduction to Partitioning") says

Unfortunately the GNU Storage Guide doesn't exist, as far as I can see.

Is it possible to resurrect the content of that section until the GNU
Storage Guide is ever released?

(I don't really understand why anyone would remove the existing content before
releasing it in another place, instead of after)

Why should libdv pull in alsa-base when it only supports OSS? It's legacy code,
so most likely upstream will never support any other sound system. We could of
course just demote the Recommends to a Suggests, meaning that most libdv users
won't be able to record sound by default.

Daniel.

Bug#600564: add support for more buttons

2010-10-18 Thread Stanislav Maslovski
Package: acpid
Version: 1:2.0.6-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream patch

Hello,

I think that it is reasonable to add support for the very common CD
play/pause and related buttons found on many notebooks, as acpid
already reacts to the volume control buttons and video buttons. This
will help to keep the number of running daemons at the minimum in
minimalistic setups (there is esekeyd, but it is quite primitive and
not very reliable because it does not monitor the changes in
/dev/input/).

I attach a very simple patch to achieve this. I placed the CD buttons
in a separate "category": cd/*, so that their events will not
interfere with other button events, but this can be changed, of course.

Note that this means upgrading xserver-xorg-core and other parts of X as
well. If that is not desired, booting with nouveau.modeset=0 is another
option.

I find it rather surprising that the lenny-backports kernel even
includes the nouveau module, with Lenny's userspace it does not do any
good.

Reassigning to linux-2.6. If this is to be enabled (I have no basis for
an opinion on this) then it needs to be done globally, not just for the
Xen flavour.

Bug#518378: updated German program translations

2010-10-18 Thread Martin Eberhard Schauer

Sorry for the long delay,

but I spent a lot of time on updating manpages-de translations.

As I don't know what the translation project robot really does, I didn't
put text in the body of the message.

I took Kai's work and merged it with the de.po file from 2.5.7-5 and
the work was mostly done. Just four strings had to be added.

Cheers
 Martin

Bug#600568: please move zfs.ko and opensolaris.ko to /boot

2010-10-18 Thread Robert Millan
Package: kfreebsd-image-8.1-1-amd64
Version: 8.1-5
Severity: normal

Sometimes extra modules are needed for boot. This is more
common on GNU/Linux, where most filesystem drivers are split
into modules. These modules reside in /boot (inside initrd)
so that GRUB can load them.

In general, there's no garantee that / will be readable by
GRUB, as some setups (e.g. crypto or unsupported filesystems)
may prevent that.

Since kFreeBSD doesn't support initrd [1], the FreeBSD system
installs all kernel modules in /boot, to ensure their loader
will be capable of loading them in case they're necessary for
bootstrap. acpi.ko used to be a typical example of this.

With a ZFS root, GRUB needs to be able to load zfs.ko and
opensolaris.ko in order to boot your kernel. Usually this is
no problem because GRUB supports ZFS, but some ZFS features
(gzip compression, or volume arrays) or other conditions
(encrypted volumes) are not yet supported.

The usual workaround is to create two boot partitions instead
of one: one for /boot and one for /lib/modules.

A simpler solution would be to install zfs.ko and opensolaris.ko
in /boot/kfreebsd-${version}/ or such, and turn their old
paths in /lib/modules into symlinks. update-grub will then
adjust grub.cfg appropiately to load these modules from their
real location.

[1] well, it does, but without pivot_root() it can't be used
in this way.

For those, who also didn't understood what he is talking about: He
want's us to accept w3c-sgml-lib from NEW, where it has been waiting the

Bug#596104: up to date german manpages

2010-10-18 Thread Martin Eberhard Schauer

Yesterday I finished updating the german manpages based on 2.5.7-5
and sent them to debian-l10n-ger...@lists.debian.org for review.

For educational purposes and out of curiosity I can offer any format you
want: Single po files and addenda, a big po file, manpages.

How long shoul I wait for a review before sending them to the robot?

Cheers

The full code of ./cowbell.in reads:

1 #!/bin/sh
2
3 libdir="@prefix@/lib/cowbell"
4  export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${libdir}${LD_LIBRARY_PATH+:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH}

Uhm, there are more problems that met the eye at first glance:

   (
   libdir="/usr/lib/cowbell"
   LD_LIBRARY_PATH="::"
   LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${libdir}${LD_LIBRARY_PATH+:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH}
   echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
   )

   # => /usr/lib/cowbell:::

Proposed NMU follows.

OK, please upload. I don't see the source format change in your diff
(and this is an undesirable change to introduce in an NMU anyway, so
please don't do that).

Cheers,
Iain

I can reproduce this bug in about 3/4 of the build tests using
monkeysphere 0.31-1 and a simple pbuilder with a minimal configuration:

$ cat /etc/pbuilder/pbuilderrc
# this is your configuration file for pbuilder.
# the file in /usr/share/pbuilder/pbuilderrc is the default template.
# /etc/pbuilderrc is the one meant for overwritting defaults in
# the default template
#
# read pbuilderrc.5 document for notes on specific options.
MIRRORSITE=http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian

The the system has ntp 1:4.2.6.p2+dfsg-1+b1 installed, and the only
change to the configuration was to point to our local ntp servers.

I build the package by extracting it with "dpkg-source -x", changeing
into the directory, and running "pdebuild".

The machine used to build has a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU at 3.16 GHz,
don't know if that matters.

Best regards,
  Alexander

Couldn't update-grub just copy the needed file(s) over when it's
invoked? This way, no need to have module-specific location/handling
(installing /some/ modules in a different place and using symlinks
sounds cumbersome to me).

Bug#600571: perl: Fails to complete unpack during installation

2010-10-18 Thread Roger Leigh
Package: perl
Version: 5.10.1-15
Severity: serious
Justification: Breaks installation

While dist-upgrading my system today, the perl package failed to
unpack/configure
(transcript below) and hung for over an hour until I killed the dpkg process.
After
running "dpkg --configure -a" and "apt-get -f install" the package then
continued to
configure correctly. It looks like it was somehow stuck between unpacking and
configuring. There was no response in the terminal to any keys (I tried
hitting enter,
but there was no response to the input, so maybe apt-get was doing something
odd with
termios if this wasn't a deliberate action by the perl maintainer scripts).

Looking as the ps listing (below), it looks like dpkg was being run on pts/2
which
wasn't an open pty in any virtual terminal while apt-get was run on pts/1.
That's not
typical, and may be the cause of the problem if perl was waiting on input due
to a
conffile change or debconf interaction. The ps listing doesn't indicate any
debconf
usage though.

I'm afraid I can't give much more detail about the issue. This may well not be
a
perl-specific bug if perl's pre/postinst isn't doing any messing with ptys. In
this
case, it may be a bug in apt-get and/or dpkg.

Regards,
Roger

2010-10-18 Thread sdfsdfsdf ewfwdfsdf
Additional informations:

At the time of reporting the bug, neither pulseaudio and pulseaudio-module-x11,
nor alsa-base and linux-sound-base were installed. After installing them, these
problems vanished. But therefore other problems occured.

You can crosscheck the following bugreport for a better overview:

bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=240001

The problem seems to be related to Pulseaudio and to the vlc-plugin-pulse.

Should I open another bug report?

My concern is the last line: what is the problem with the script?
Line 31 in question is

if [ -z "$RES_DEV" ] || [ ! -b $RES_DEV ]; then

Perhaps the qutation marks around the second $RES_DEV are missing.

Bug#600574: blobandconquer-data: needs to install hundreds of fonts, often unwanted by the user

2010-10-18 Thread Jean-Pierre
Package: blobandconquer-data
Severity: wishlist

Blobandconquer-data requires ttf-aenigma which install 456 fonts. It's not easy
anymore for the user to select fonts in X11 programs, especially than most of
these fonts doesn't provide glyphs for all languages.

Would it be possible to get less fonts when installing blobandconquer ?

Thanks for all.

This issue was happening because alsa was not configured. If you wish
to use alsa as your sound system, you need to install alsa-base and
run 'alsactl init' once to configure it. If you wish to use pulseaudio
you need to install the pulseaudio package. I am wondering though, how
did you install debian? Is the sound system broken by default like
that?

Bug#600575: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Intermittent black screen on resume from suspend on 945GM

2010-10-18 Thread trutter
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.9.1-4
Severity: important

On Acer Timeline/Aspire 1810TZ which has 945GM graphics, the screen remains
black, with backlight on, when resuming from suspend.

The problem happens probably 80% of the time; resuming _sometimes_ works but it
usually doesn't.

When it resumes, the screen is black but X appears to be running and to have
successfully resumed apart from the black screen. Pressing caps lock toggles
the caps lock light successfully. Wifi comes on and connects. Key
combinations appear to have some effect. Pressing CTRL+ALT+F[1-7] does not
have any visible effect. Xorg and pm logs indicate nothing out of the
ordinary.

Got the very same machine, works fine with 2.12/2.13.

In the future, please attach logs instead of linking to online
resources. Two reasons for that:
 - You don't have a grip on whether or when they're going to
   expire/disappear.
 - That makes searching for a particular pattern/string difficult in
   the BTS / mail archives.

Bug#600577: eglibc: libfakeroot not found during build time

2010-10-18 Thread Jussi Hakala

Package: eglic
Version: 2.11.2-6

There's a shell script (yearistype) run during installation of time zone
specific data. Script is run through ld.so explicitly setting the
library path, thus overriding LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

Problem is that that particular command is run under fakeroot, which
uses the same environment variable for preloading libfakeroot and thus
preloading fails when that library is not found printing a number of

ERROR: ld.so: object 'libfakeroot-sysv.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be
preloaded: ignored.

on the build log.

It would be nice if either yearistype is not run from under fakeroot
(there shouldn't be no need, but it might be easier on terms of
packaging) or the libfakeroot location would be preserved with
additional --library-path option given, etc.

And I noticed that there is a bigger problem lurking:

(

LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib/debug:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH:+:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH}"
echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Bug#600578: grub-common: grub-mkrelpath does not return any output when processing non-root ZFS filesystems

2010-10-18 Thread Jordi Mallach
Package: grub-common
Version: 1.98+20100804-4
Severity: serious
Tags: fixed-upstream

grub-mkrelpath detects and correctly processes root ZFS volumes. However,
it does not return anything when processing any other ZFS volumes.

To make it more obvious, these are the results of tests on a system setup
with a ZFS volume for /, and an additional ZFS volume for /boot (needed as
GRUB does not support ZFS with volume arrays).

Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.98+20100804-4
Severity: grave
Tags: fixed-upstream

When the boot drive contains partitions (as usual), but is identified
as a floppy by the BIOS, GRUB skips the partitions.

As a result, with certain BIOSes it becomes impossible to install Debian
on an USB drive.

That's not "improve security", that's "add obfuscation". Just remove

Bug#600581: fai-server: Make $pxebin configurable through make-fai-nfsroot.conf

2010-10-18 Thread Jan Sievers
Package: fai-server
Version: 3.3.5
Severity: wishlist

Sometimes there is the need to use a newer pxelinux than provided by the
installed syslinux-common package.

Therefore it would by nice, if in the script make-fai-nfsroot the currently
local variable $pxebin, could be configured in the make-fai-nfsroot.conf
config file.

The issue also affects the current stable release of FAI version 3.4

Can you show what you think thunar uses and what you think it should
use? Not that *gnome*-mime-application-x-python doesn't look that
standard, at first sight and doesn't appear in

Bug#600568: please move zfs.ko and opensolaris.ko to /boot

2010-10-18 Thread Robert Millan
2010/10/18, Cyril Brulebois :
> Couldn't update-grub just copy the needed file(s) over when it's

It could, but:
 - it breaks the principle of least surprise (users expect it to
modify grub.cfg only)
 - it opens the door for old module files lingering around if
something goes wrong

I think this would be worse than the current situation.

> This way, no need to have module-specific location/handling

Installing all modules in /boot hierrachy is an option too. Or implementing
pivot_root and then using initrds.

As for the symlinks, if you go this route next release of GRUB would
probe the new location, making them unnecessary in mid-term.

Hello,

I do not think this is sufficient, setting $url_forum is a workaround
for the bug. Moreover, I was also affected even without using multisite

A fix should change the code which extract $url_forum not to assume
that phpbb is installed in a subdirectory of server root.

2.13: failed 2/3 times

This was with KMS on.

I've tried a number of things to fix it:

- KMS on and off
- BIOS upgrade (running latest now)
- GDM3 instead of GDM

Have been following squeeze (amd64) for >6 months and not been able to
get resume from suspend working during this time.

Is there any logfile I can look in or troubleshooting method I haven't
thought of?

I backported something I do in python3-defaults to python-defaults and
uploaded it to experimental yesterday. I will also backport it to
2.6.6-3squeeze1 and upload it today.

`pycompile -V 2.7 ...` complains bacause 2.7 is not in supported Python
versions yet (it will be in few more seconds, once python package will
be installed). I changed pycompile to ignore list of supported Python
versions if requested version (not a range!) is installed.

Removing the colon does not address this:

(
LD_LIBRARY_PATH="::"
LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib/debug${LD_LIBRARY_PATH:+:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH}"
echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
)

# /usr/lib/debug:::

as far as security is concerned:

Pathclean ()

   # Make sure "::", "^:" or ":$" is not left in path arg $1

   local tmp123xyz
   tmp123xyz=$(echo "$1" | sed -e 's/::\+// ; s/^:// ; s/:$//' )

echo "before: $LD_LIBRARY_PATH"

echo -n "after: "
Pathclean "$LD_LIBRARY_PATH"

Not sure what is delivering tab-completion logic for mount, but it's not the
mount package. What shell are you using?

Bug#600589: hostapd+bridge doesn't work if hostapd is not run as a daemon in squeeze

2010-10-18 Thread FEJES Jozsef
Package: hostapd
Version: 0.6.10-2

I'm using a very common setup: I want to bridge eth0 + wlan0 (b43
wireless card). When I run hostapd as a daemon, it works fine. But
when I run it from /etc/network/interfaces with the hostapd stanza, it
doesn't work.

Symptoms: in the syslog I see that there's an association and a few
seconds later a "deauthenticated due to a local deauth request"
message. With an increased log level I see an "EAPOL-key timeout"
message. If I do "ifdown wlan0" then "ifup wlan0" then it starts
working.

Why it matters: I upgraded to a 2.6.35 custom kernel. When the
networking is being set up, I get a not supported error, it can't add
wlan0 to the bridge. I read that it happens because with newer
kernels, the wifi adapter needs to be in master mode already. I can't
do that with a "pre-up iwconfig wlan0 mode master" line because it
says "Set Mode" (8B06) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid
argument". The only way I know to put the card into master mode is if
I run hostapd. I suspect one might say that custom kernels are not
supported, but running hostapd in non-daemon mode sure is. With a .32
kernel the easy workaround is to run it as a daemon mode, but it
doesn't apply with .35, and it should be fixed sooner or later.

It seems to me that hostapd only works if it is run after the bridge
is set up. My old config worked because networking was set up before
hostapd was run, the bridge was already working when hostapd started.
With the new kernel, I can't do the bridge first because of the not
supported error. So hostapd is run first, it puts the card into master
mode, then the bridge is brought up, and it doesn't work, then I can
restart hostapd with ifdown-ifup, and then it works, because it starts
after the bridge.

If there was a way to put the card into master mode without hostapd,
then I could run hostapd as a daemon with the newer kernel, too,
however the bug would still be there. But I can't setup master mode
with iwconfig, how does hostapd do it anyway?

And why doesn't it work if it is started before the bridge is created?

This is part of the "make install" target of the upstream makefiles, but
the resulting files are anyway not used (they are provided by tzdata).
As a consequence I don't see the point of fixing that. Tagging as
wontfix.

Bug#600591: get-boot-info, netdevices_up contains all interfaces

Package: fai-client

netdevices_up from get-boot-info contains all netdevices listed by ip

A fix would be to add a grep UP to the row that detects interfaces, as
sugested in patch.

Bug#600590: Tomcat should at least suggest libtcnative (libtcnative-1)

2010-10-18 Thread Eddy Petrișor
Package: tomcat6
Version: 6.0.28-7
Severity: minor

libctnative is used in some setups involving tomcat as a way to
provide a faster or more scalable server.

The policy defines the the suggests dependency field as:

This is used to declare that one package may be more useful with
one or more others. Using this field tells the packaging system and
the user that the listed packages are related to this one and can
perhaps enhance its usefulness, but that installing this one without
them is perfectly reasonable.

Taking into account this and the purpose of the libctnative package,
may I suggest :D you add it as a suggests package to the tomcat binary
package?

Bug#600487: Northbridge Error / Invalid GART PTE entry

2010-10-18 Thread Hans Streibel
In the meantime I installed the NVIDIA native driver.
For that I had to disable nouveau.

The syslog error messages are gone now.

Yeah, makes sense. debsign helpfully picked up my old key despite
settings in my gpg.conf saying otherwise. Re-uploaded and accepted for
unstable now.

Cheers,
