thanks

k3b 1.90.0 uses kauth from kde >= 4.4.
As soon as KDE 4.4.1 is uploaded to Debian, k3b will follow.
Current k3b upload doesn't use anymore policykit (via libpolkit-qt0).

Yes, that's intended (I'm going to clarify this in the documentation).
The problem is, sometimes is handy to be able to add a mail header in
the "pseudo-header" section, and have it moved to mail header when
sending the report. For example X-Debbugs-CC.

If I have to leave all those files in the pseudoheader section without
moving them, then there would be a kind-of regression. So, I decided
to force those p.h. to be left in the p.h. section only if specified
on the command-line, and keep doing the same filtering (if the field
is recorded in the p.h. list of headers) and move the other fields to
mail headers if specified in the mail text.

If this still happens with both ATI and Intel and recent xserver-xorg-core,
it could be either the server or enlightenment, hard to say...

Guys,

Do you still have problems with multihead on your Xpress 200 board? If
so, can you try 6.12.5 in unstable or 6.12.191 in experimental with KMS

thanks

Good point.

Yeah, but I fear if I added the version we'd run into the same problem as
for writer2latex..

But will have a look...

No. This is normal only. Please do not overinflating bug importance.

> The debian/copyright file is AFAICT incomplete:

The recent upstream changes have created some license complexity. I
will try to sort them out. This will be addressed in a future upload.

In the meantime:

The original license was the 4-clause BSD license by the Regents of
the University of California. They have authorized the removal of the
advertising clause in any of their material bearing their 4-clause
license. That allowed all distributors to distribute files with the
3-clause license. This is specifically allowed from the Regents of
the University of California and does not cover other licensees
distributing with the 4-clause license.

Tony Finch has been removing old code and writing new code to replace
it and has replaced the entirety of the previous with his own new
code. Along with it he has replaced the copyright with his notice.
He has chosen a 2-clause license.

I released my code with an all permissive license.

Tony's test harness has been released into the public domain.

The entire project as a blanket has been placed under a 2-clause
license. As stated in the project files all contributions are under
the 2-clause license found in unifdef.c.

Fortunately all of those are compatible free licenses.

It's NOT /dev/shm specific, just mount /var with nodev mount option
and you'll explore the same behaviour in the default
settings/options/mode.

Other software like debootstrap, FAI,... includes the according
checks, like:

Very good. I think upstream will know if there is a better way for
picking the right region.

Can you find out which register read locks up? As a wild guess I would
think more registers have been added and some are not compatible with
r128.

Good catch. ACK. Don't feel shy to rewrite the whole function if you
feel like it :)

>  radeontool: error out for missing control or fb region

ACK. But I would drop the comment about the old use of lspci. And
maybe use plain "int" for ctrl_region and fb_region to avoid any
casting.

>  radeontool: handle r128 again

I don't know how many cards and configurations are possible, maybe an
interval like 16-64 could be used? I also thought about adding a check
for the is_prefetchable (and !is_IO) flag which AFAICS seems to be on
for the control regions. However the flag was not set when I tried to
read it out with libpciaccess even though lspci indicates it. I don't
know if this is a bug in libpciaccess or if I tried to use it the
wrong way.

Bug#548446: [gnome-session] Gnome doesn't start since gnome-session upgrade

2010-03-06 Thread Juhan Ernits

Hi!

This bug just exhibited itself when upgrading from an older version of Gnome2 to
the current testing 2.28.0-6. Gnome starts fine for a user with a freshly
created account but hangs just after displaying the background
image with accounts with old Gnome2 configuration present.

In my case the solution was to remove the following
files/directories:

~/.nautilus
~/.gconf/%gconf-tree.xml

~/.gconf/apps/panel

Cheers,

The additional symptoms of the hang were devkit-disks-daemon and dbus-daemon
taking ~20% each of cpu:

The "problem" is that koffice is a native KDE application, and OpenOffice.org
is not.

(And you should have filed this upstream in the first place, I'll not do
anything with this bug except forwading it upstream and hoping anyway...)

Bug#572648: unifdef: copyright file is out of date

2010-03-06 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Hi again,

Bob Proulx wrote:

Your call, of course. I personally consider it minor. But so I
understand for the future: isn’t this a policy “must” directive? I am
thinking of [1], which says the copyright information and license must
be reproduced verbatim in the copyright file.

Yes, that sounds reasonable. It was a good change in my opinion,
since it decreases the complexity of the license for unifdef.c.

Tony did not write the manual, so that is still under the 3-clause
BSD license.

> I released my code with an all permissive license.

Yes.

AIUI that is considered legally problematic in some places, so he used
the “CC0 public domain explanation”. Where releasing code to the
public domain is valid, that is what that means; elsewhere, it is a
license. It was probably the right choice to make it clear to
everyone what their rights are. Doing that requires a long document,
unfortunately.

I do not understand your first sentence here. I think the README is
saying that patches will be assumed to be under the 2-clause BSD
license.

> Fortunately all of those are compatible free licenses.

Yes. Further, we are complying with all of them, by including the
notices that are missing from debian/copyright in /usr/bin/unifdefall
and /usr/share/man/man1/unifdef.1.

Hoping that is clearer,
Jonathan

Bug#515431: ITA: povray -- Persistence of vision raytracer (3D renderer)

Hi,

I would really regret the fact, if debian would come without povray. I have
been raytracing
some things in former times and will take over the management of the package.
Don't expect
everything to be resolved in a minute, but I will prepare an upload soon.

Bug#572733: [Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#572733: support for mounting other kernel filesystems

I thought the libcgroup package handled this one, but might be wrong.

Did not know about this one.

In my opinion initscripts should limit itself to mount special file
system that should be available on all or almost all installations and
that do not introduce a security problem when mounted, and leave it to
other packages to handle mounting of less common file system types.
The request for mounting debugfs by default has so far been denied, as
it have a rather special use case and can be seen as a security
problem.

I do not know cgroups and hugetlbfs well enought to know how they do
in this regard.

> If there will be no action from other maintainers then I will
> implement #4, but I am not really advocating it over the others.

For file system that should be mounted on Linux, depending on udev
mith be ok, but for file systems that also should be mounted on
kFreeBSD, I am told udev do not work and using udev is not an option.
I suspect cgroups and hugetlbfs are linux specific, but wanted to
mention the issue to be sure it is known.

On Linux, using udev is supposed to be optional, but it is getter
harder and harder to to avoid it, so I am not sure we want to spend
extra effort to make it easier to drop udev from an installation.

> Do we agree to mount these filesystems on /dev/ subdirectories?

I have no opinion on the mount point location, but would like all
distributions to agree on the same location to make it easier for
users and application writers to move applications from OS to OS.

> The upstream developers do not take a position either, but
> /dev/cgroup/ and /dev/cgroups/ are popular choices.

What are the other choices? What do Ubuntu, SuSe, Mandriva, Gentoo
and the other distributions do? Which mount point is most commonly
used?

> What should the default be? Mounting or not mounting the filesystems
> if they are available? Does mounting one of these filesystems has
> negative implications if it is not needed?

Adding code to initscripts for file systems that are rarely used slow
down the boot. I suspect the slowdown is neglectabe, thought, but it
is an idea to measure it, to know how much impact it has on systems
not using these new file systems.

> I suppose that at least some RAM will be used, but is it enough to care?

I do not believe a few bytes spent by the kernel is enought to care.
I assume the kernel only allocate a few structs to keep status info on
the file systems. If huge amount of memory is allocated, we need to
reconsider.

> If they should not be mounted by default, is fstab the best way for
> the system administrator to configure this or should an init script
> be used anyway?

Do not know. For me it depend on how many installations should have
these file systems mounted. If it is all or almost all -> init.d
scripts in the initscripts package and if it is some instalations ->
sysadmin can add it himself or separate pacage.

Happy hacking,

Bug#515431: ITA: povray -- Persistence of vision raytracer (3D renderer)

2010-03-06 Thread Oliver Korff
Hi Torsten,

I do not have any problems regarding the licence. But as you have had
a deeper look into the package, do you see any other things, that might be
difficult.

I plan to solve the bashism problems soon and remove the lintian warnings.
The next thing is to make povray available to the kfreebsd arch. Another
step might be to package povray 3.7.betaXX for experimental.

Bug#572744: Shouldn't package be named coherence instead of python-coherence ?

2010-03-06 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: python-coherence
Version: 0.6.6.2-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

The current naming of the package seem to indicate that it provides some kind
of python library to be used by other applications.

But it also provides a UPNP mediaserver AFAICT.

Is there a valid reason not to call it coherence ?

Or maybe provide two binary packages : one for the python low-level python
components and one for the high-level coherence app (and applet) ?
The descriptions of packages would then reflect this as being less "framework"
and more "end user app".

Thanks in advance.

Bug#563888: drivel and proxies

2010-03-06 Thread Neil Williams
tag 563888 + moreinfo
quit

Without a backtrace, I've no chance of fixing this bug.

http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace

Besides, from what I can tell right now, this could be a bug in libsoup
rather than drivel. (Drivel doesn't do anything about proxies, it hands
all that off to libsoup.)

I'll give it a few weeks and if there's no backtrace forthcoming, I'll
close the bug.

Bug#572746: libm: sinf/cosf performance is awful on amd64

2010-03-06 Thread Jerome Vizcaino
Package: libc6
Version: 2.10.2-6
Severity: normal

Hi,

After many tests and research I've come to the conclusion that the float
variants
of
sin/cos (and maybe others) are anormaly slow Debian amd64.
The performance loss is really impressive (around 8 to 9 times slower).
I've attached the prog used to make my experiments and used it in the following
cases.

+ Lenny-amd64: sinf/cosf is really slow
+ Lenny-i386: float performance is ok (faster than the cos/sin using double)
+ Sid-amd64: sinf/cosf slow
+ Lenny-amd64 using lenny-i386 binary and 32bits libs: float performance is OK.

+ OpenSuse 64 bits (10.3 and 11.1): using the binary compiled on lenny-amd64,
the tests run fine !
=> The problem is not compiler related.

There seems to be a problem with the way libm is compiled for the amd64
architecture on Debian.
This is why the OpenSuse test was run: the problem is somewhere in the compile
chain or debian specific patches.

We're extensively using these for calculations and this is a real problem.
Using
cos/sin as
a temporary workaround would do the trick but this is still slower than the
sinf/cosf
implementations that works so well on 32 bits computers...

Thank you

Jerome

This just can't work since nobody runs xmodmap on input hotplug.
You guys should use udev rules or other modern stuff, not xmodmap
which was designed for prehistoric input management system :)

This is no longer useful, since X-Debbugs-* can be used as
pseudo-headers, nowadays.

But Forwarded: _is_ a legitimate pseudo-header.

At the same time, the Forwarded: mail header:

* had never been official
* had been obsoleted 30 years ago
* had never been intended to be inserted by humans

Bug#571964: I found the bug

2010-03-06 Thread alex

Hi,

	I'm looked into the code because I was really interested in
fixing this bug so the problem is in the file rrdgraph.class.php, in this
lines:

if ($this->altAutoscaleMax)
{
$params .= ' -M ';
}

	Seems that -M option is deprecated ? looking into documentation I
found this:

[-M|--alt-autoscale-max]

Where --alt-autoscale will modify both the absolute maximum AND minimum
values, this option will only affect the maximum value. The minimum value,
if not defined on the command line, will be 0. This option can be useful
when graphing router traffic when the WAN line uses compression, and thus
the throughput may be higher than the WAN line speed.

Replacing ' -M ' with ' --alt-autoscale-max ' works for me

So the crash is reproducible? Please try with xserver-xorg-core 1.7.5-1

Bug#572750: ocaml: please allow to build arch=all packages without compiling all of ocaml

2010-03-06 Thread Ralf Treinen
Package: ocaml
Version: 3.11.2-1
Severity: wishlist

Calling dpkg-buildpackage -A seems to compile everything, even-though it
only produces the arch-independent packages ocaml-mode and ocaml-source.
It would be nice to factor the build and install targets into -arch and
-indep targets. That would allow to build arch=all packages much more
quickly.

Now it is true that around the time when things first got wrong, my BIOS
had been reset due to the battery running out when I was using the
laptop. I had almost forgotten, also because everything seemed to work
fine after the reboot, and didn't connect the dots until just now.

I'll do a reflash of my BIOS and see whether that fixes things. Will let
you know what the result is.

Done in git. Could please someone who has an account on the ocaml upstream
BTS forward the bug to there? I can't, since it wouldn't let me register
an account for me. #508813 contains now instructions how to reproduce
the bug directly from source.

inf-ocaml.el doesn't byte-compile either with xemacs21 (same error message).

The next release of Debian (6.0, code name Squeeze) will be based
on 2.6.32. Please test the current 2.6.32 from unstable/testing and tell
us whether the problem persists. If so, we should report it upstream
to the kernel.org developers.

The 2.6.32 kernel is available from packages.debian.org and can
be installed in both Debian stable, testing and unstable
installations.

Bug#572753: newt: repo from VCS field without debian packaging

2010-03-06 Thread Tzafrir Cohen
Source: newt
Version: 0.52.10-5
Severity: minor

The Debian control file has:

  Vcs-Git: git://git.fedorahosted.org/git/newt

But the repository pointed from there does not seem to include Debian
packaging (the debian/ subdirectory). Nither the master branch nor any
other branch there.

This means that an e.g. 'debcheckout newt' will not fetch the complete
Debian packaging.

Hi Moritz,

I just tested with latest Squeeze (and latest kernel). Same problem, another
state though:

[1046073.600266] Kernel unaligned access at TPC[104ea7fc]
copy_to_user_state+0x54/0x9c [xfrm_user]
[1046073.715755] Kernel unaligned access at TPC[104ea7fc]
copy_to_user_state+0x54/0x9c [xfrm_user]

It happens as soon as there's traffic over the tunnel.

Kernel: 2.6.32-trunk-sparc64 #1 Sun Jan 10 23:56:57 UTC 2010 sparc64 GNU/Linux

The next release of Debian (6.0, code name Squeeze) will be based
on 2.6.32. Please test the current 2.6.32 from unstable/testing and tell
us whether the problem persists. If so, we should report it upstream
to the kernel.org developers.

The 2.6.32 kernel is available from packages.debian.org and can
be installed in both Debian stable, testing and unstable
installations.

Thanks,
Moritz

Bug#572755: gtranslator: Please support normal X or Gnome cut-and-paste

2010-03-06 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: gtranslator
Version: 1.9.9-1
Severity: wishlist

I thank upstream and maintainer for their change to support display og
po file respecting po file content order (with capability to reorder).

But there are some points where I see you can make some improvements.

1. While waiting for the list display to be updated,
   * please change mouse icon to the shape indicating situation.
   * please display message at the bottom indicating what is happening.

2. Allow msgid/msgstr contents to be highlighted and selected according
   to normal X/Gnome method, so we can cut/copy-and-paste.
   I mean support both:
 * left-click-and-move -> middle-click and
 * shift-left-click-and-drag ctrl-C/X and ctrl-V.

3. Buttons (configurable) which can allow next/prev-fuzzy/untranslated.

Request 2 is very important since the word order differes among
langages. It is one of the most frequenly used operation in poedit, I
use. I think gtranslator should be great platform if these issues are
solved.

Bug#572754: linux-image-2.6.33-2-amd64: Xorg / virtual console switching glitch with KMS on i915

2010-03-06 Thread Paul Wise
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-8
Severity: normal

While I am currently running 2.6.33-2, I also have this problem with
2.6.32-8. The issue is that when I switch from Xorg to a virtual
console, wait some seconds and then switch back to Xorg, for about 0.5
seconds I see what was on the screen before I switched away from Xorg,
then the screen flashes and gets updated by Xorg. Usually when it gets
updated the screensaver has kicked in. I would expect that when
switching back to Xorg I'd see the screensaver instead of a flash of my
desktop. I also wonder if this could be a minor information disclosure
security issue. As you can see below, I have an i915-based Intel GPU,
which defaults to using KMS. I didn't have this issue before i915 was
switched to using KMS by default.

Bug#572749: xserver-xorg: segmentation fault when disconnecting/reconnecting Wacom tablet after hibernation

2010-03-06 Thread Kalle Olavi Niemitalo

So far, it has only happened once here. I used "info symbol" and
"print/x" in gdb to add the symbols to the original backtrace.

I now tried replugging the tablet a dozen times without
hibernation and once with hibernation but the X server did not
crash.

Oops, I'd better switch to a more up-to-date mirror.

Bug#572756: Many programs compiled with gfortran-4.4 -fopenmp segfault

2010-03-06 Thread Stefano Simonucci
Package: gfortran-4.4
Version: 4.4.3-3
Severity: important
Tags: l10n

I have compiled the following fortran 95 program

program test
  double precision a(1000)
  a(1)=1
  write(6,*) a(1)
  stop
end

with the command

gfortran -fopenmp
and I get the following error message (If I try to execute the program)

stef...@debsim2:~/prova$ ./a.out
Segmentation fault
stef...@debsim2:~/prova$
---
If I reduce the dimension of the a array, for example

program test1
  double precision a(100)
  a(1)=1
  write(6,*) a(1)
  stop
end

and I compile the program with the same flag -fopenmp
the binary program can be execute

stef...@debsim2:~/prova$ ./a.out
   1.
stef...@debsim2:~/prova$

If I use a dynamical allocation (the dimension of a is like the dimension in
test)

program test2
  double precision,allocatable :: a(:)
  allocate(a(1))
  a(1)=1
  write(6,*) a(1)
  stop
end

the program can be compiled (with -fopenmp) and executed.
--
I have not used the OMP directives in these programs but I observe the same
behaviour
with OMP commands.
The program

program test_omp
  double precision a(1000)
!$OMP PARALLEL DEFAULT(PRIVATE)
  a(1)=1
  write(6,*) a(1)
!$OMP END PARALLEL
  stop
end

segfaults when compiled with the option -fopenmp
while  the program

program test_omp1
  double precision a(10)
!$OMP PARALLEL DEFAULT(PRIVATE)
  a(1)=1
  write(6,*) a(1)
!$OMP END PARALLEL
  stop
end

gives the result
stef...@debsim2:~/prova$ ./a.out
   1.
   1.
stef...@debsim2:~/prova$

---
Analogously the program

program test_omp2
  double precision,allocatable :: a(:)
!$OMP PARALLEL DEFAULT(PRIVATE)
  allocate(a(1))
  a(1)=1
  write(6,*) a(1)
!$OMP END PARALLEL
  stop
end

runs correctly:

stef...@debsim2:~/prova$ ./a.out
   1.
   1.
stef...@debsim2:~/prova$

Thank you

gre...@belanna:~$ perl /usr/share/doc/libx11-protocol-perl/examples/wintree.pl
-fe-+-(3)1
|-(6)4
|-(docker:8)2
|-(docker:8)3
|-(:16)1`'---2
|-(xterm:d)38
|-(:16)293b`Critical Notification'---293c
|-(firefox-bin:2)1`firefox-bin'---2
|-(firefox-bin:2)52-+-53
[...]

What happens if you run for example `DISPLAY=unix:0 xeyes' (or any
other small X application)?

Looking at the code, X11::Protocol does

require 'X11/Protocol/Connection/UNIXSocket.pm';
$conn = X11::Protocol::Connection::UNIXSocket
->open($host, $dispnum);

and X11::Protocol::Connection::UNIXSocket does

my($host, $dispnum) = @_;
my($sock) = IO::Socket::UNIX->new('Type' => SOCK_STREAM(),
  'Peer' => "/tmp/.X11-unix/X$dispnum");
croak "Can't connect to display `unix:$dispnum': $!" unless $sock;

so that's the error you get.

$dispnum comes from X11::Protocol:

if ($main::ENV{'DISPLAY'}) {
$display = $main::ENV{'DISPLAY'};
} else {
carp "Can't find DISPLAY -- guessing `$Default_Display:0'";
$display = "$Default_Display:0";
}

Since you don't get this "Can't find DISPLAY" warning, I assume that
$DISPLAY is set in your environment.
Which maybe leads us to /tmp/.X11-unix/X$dispnum in
X11::Protocol::Connection::UNIXSocket

Could you please send to output of
$ echo $DISPLAY
$ ls -l /tmp/.X11-unix/

Cheers,
gregor

Bug#572758: thunar: files with an unknown file extension are shown as zip archive

2010-03-06 Thread Holger Wansing
Package: thunar
Severity: minor
Version: 0.9.0

Files with an unknown file extension are shown beeing a zip archive.

(I recognized this first on the desktop (a k3b project file lying on
my desktop was displayed as zip archive); I think the functionality
belongs to thunar? The problem is the same inside thunar and on the
desktop.)

Greetings
Holger

Bug#572760: FTBFS: /dev/urandom: hGetChar: invalid argument (Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character)

2010-03-06 Thread Joachim Breitner
Package: src:kaya
Version: 0.4.4-3
Severity: serious

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

as can be seen here:
https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=kaya&arch=kfreebsd-amd64&ver=0.4.4-3&stamp=1267577990&file=log&as=raw
kaya fails to build from source with a current ghc6-6.12. This also
affects other, non-Debian-users:
http://lists.kayalang.org/archives/kaya-devel/2010-January/000644.html

The reason seems to be that kayac uses hGetChar to read from
/dev/urandom. With ghc6-6.12, hGetChar tries to read a char according to
the current locale, which can be UTF-8, and a random byte is not always
a valid UTF-8 character...

A proper fix would be to use hGetBuf. A work-arond would be to use
hSetBinaryMode on the handle before using hGetChar.

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#503999: (no subject)

Can this be fixed if it can be reproduced? Or should we wait for Squeeze?

I think I've hit this bug too with a fairly simple app using the multi API.
