2009-09-22 Thread dunn

Greetings,

I have been trying to reach you for sometime now, I am glad to inform you that
I have Booked your ATM MASTER CARD of $250,000.00 USD with Fedex Courier
Agency in Nigeria West Africa, i packaged the ATM Master Card inside a
magazine where nobody will notice the content. I placed ATM Master Card on a
Secured Security Safe Keeping with fedEx which cost a fee of $93.00 USD.

Note, i have paid for the Insurance and delivery fee but was not allow to pay
for Secured security safe keeping fee because of demurrage, this is the Only
fee you will be required to pay before delivery. Well, I did forward them your
delivery address, but a re-confirmation is important when contacting them if
you want to change your address. I advice you quote the parcel and shipment
code to them for onward delivery to your re-confirmed address. The ATM Master
Card has pin number 8876. Please make sure you contact the shipment officer
through his correct email below.

Attention: Mr. Ashley Mullins Shipment Officer Of Fedex delivery services
Nigeria.
E-mail: dispatch-dep...@administrativos.com
Tel: +234-705-958-8977

Shipment Code: CPEL/OWN/9856
Parcel Number: EG2272-NG

I do hope you'll take care of this transaction as soon as possible.
Unfortunately you will not be able to reach me as I've been called out of the
country on business for 4 months.. Once again, the Fedex delivery services do
not know the content of the parcel, I registered it as an Magazine they don't
know it contains ATM MASTER CARD inside, this is to avoid them delaying the
delivery .

Remain blessed and enjoy your funds.

I suppose I should subscribe to the PTS then and deal with any breakage
the upload may introduce, right?

If I'll ask for an RFS, I want to fix this first. Should not be too
difficult and would give me some packaging training.

Regardless of whether I do that or not, I have just asked to be added to
the collab-maint group so that I can put my Git repository there (don't
want to use my home directory on Alioth for that package).

Regards,
Sven

yes, but I didn't look at the package so I don't know if it's really
something to fix (for example, if it's all documentation, then yes a
-doc package is highly encouraged).

In case of doubts/questions/anythin, debian-mentors is the right place to ask.

Note that QA uploads don't need to be "that difficult" to do, so also
a git repo could be overkilling: probably the next uploaders won't use
the collab-qa repository (because they don't like git, don't want to
deal with a SCM, etc).

Nothing to do with networkmanager, it's bad wireless driver causing latency
spikes in the kernel. While it's popular to blame NetworkManager for everything
including world hunger, please stick to the facts.

Another thing that doesn't help is that the debian kernel doesn't have
preemption turned on an a HZ of only 250. Please complain about this to the
kernel team, i've pinged them about it a lot of times but nothing ever changed
:(

Ah seems like it was too late for me yesterday.
the Replaces/Conflicts in grub-pc, only tell dpkg/apt that they're
allowed to automatically remove grub-legacy when installing it.
Though it seems aptitude honours it the other way too, If you want to
install grub-legacy it marks grub-pc automatically for removing.

Debian targets ARMv4t, while V8 appears to use atleast one ARMv5 instruction.

Either compile with -march=armv5t or change the armv5 instructions to their

breakpoint.

Your problem seems quite puzzling, does the issue still occur and if so with
more recent versions of pulse ?

Bug#546335: [Pkg-pulseaudio-devel] Bug#546335: Acknowledgement (bluetooth: uses only headset profile)

``wrong'' depends on your situation. Your headset probably supports
both HSP/HFP and A2DP. By default HSP/HFP is support was used which has quite
crappy sound quality (8khz iirc), but has both input and output so it can be
used to make calls. A2DP otoh has decent sound quality, but doesn't have input
capabilities, so it's only suitable for listening to music. (Thanks bluetooth)

In my opinion, in the brave new future, pulse should use A2DP by default and
voip application should switch headsets into HSP/HFP profile when they need it.
Unfortunately, no voip app has this capability yet, so there is no obvious
right profile here.

One thing that should help though is that once you've switched the profile of
the headset to the one you like, pulse should remember it and use that profile
next time you connect the headset. Can you test if this happens correctly for
you ? If so then i think we should close this bug

Pulseaudio just detects when a bluetooth headset is connected to your machine.
You need to use some other tool to detect and connect it initially. My
bluetooth headset tries to automagically connect to my machine when i turn it
on, which makes things work nicely. Another option is to use the applet in
gnome-bluetooth which provides an easy way to connect to known devices
(assuming you use gnome ofcourse)

Indeed, most of it is documentation:

,
| % du -s /usr/share/doc/ne /usr/share/info/ne* /usr/share/ne
| 2052/usr/share/doc/ne
| 60 /usr/share/info/ne.info.gz
| 316 /usr/share/ne
`

My plan would be to split the documentation out into ne-doc, but leave
the runtime files under /usr/share/ne in the main package for now,
although they could be moved to an ne-data package as well. What is
your opinion?

I'll take that into consideration.

My apologies for another "please upgrade" email, but I just uploaded
2.28.0 to unstable. It contains fixes for not only joining favourite
rooms, but also autoconnecting to favourite chat rooms you
specify. When I implemented/fixed these features, I used F5 many times
and there was no assertion. Therefore, could you possibly try once
more with 2.28.0 please?

Thanks for your patience.

Bug#547784: libsnacc-dev: headerfile asn-len.h uses deprecated "endl" without std:: prefix

2009-09-22 Thread Markus Rippl
Package: libsnacc-dev

Version: 1.3bbn-10

Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

The header file

/usr/include/snacc/c++/asn-len.h

uses "endl" in a preprocessor #DEFINE, making the header file unusable
for users that include it in code that needs to be compiled on the
system:

e...@evn-vbox-template:~$ grep -B3 -n endl /usr/include/snacc/c++/asn-len.h
82-#define BDEC_2ND_EOC_OCTET( b, bytesDecoded, env)\
83-{\
84-if ((b.GetByte() != 0) || b.ReadError())\
85: Asn1Warning << "Warning - second octet of EOC not zero" << endl;\

Suggestion to correct this into std::endl (worked for me).

Bug#547783: sensible-browser: fails to start www-browser (DISPLAY set, no x-terminal-emulator)

Package: debianutils

Invoking sensible-browser when DISLPAY is set but
/usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator doesn't exist fails to spawn a browser, but
yields the following error instead:

  % sensible-browser
Couldn't find a suitable web browser!
Set the BROWSER environment variable to your desired browser.

This situation occurs when I invoke sensible-browser (from mutt) over an
ssh session to a remote machine that doesn't have a terminal emulator
installed. DISPLAY is set because of ssh X forwarding.

Bug#531826: scrotwm: doesn't play well with hidden windows

2009-09-22 Thread Andrea Bolognani
Hi,

I have a new tentative patch, which seems to be working correctly. Would you
mind dropping it in debian/patches and checking whether the bug still applies?

Be aware that the patch is against the recently-released 0.9.6 version of
scrotwm; you can grab the source tree for an updated Debian package from the
usual location on bzr.debian.org.

Let me know how it goes.

I have recompiled the package for lenny and tried. It does the same as before.
xrandr -o left is ok, but Option "Rotate" "Left" in Monitor section of
xorg.conf is broken. Rotated cursor appears, but nothing else.

I have one further idea. When I first tried rotating the screen, I got error
about unsufficient videoRAM. Well I thought 8 MB should be enough for
1280x1024 screen at 24 bpp (or even 32 bpp). I had to set 16 MB, to get it
working at least with xrandr. So it seems that rotated screen is written to
some other part of videoRAM than non-rotated screen. And I think that when
Rotate is set in Monitor section, image is written into non-rotated part of
videoRAM but the image displayed is from rotated part. To confirm this theory
try displaying something rotated with xrandr, kill X, do not reboot and try
Option Rotate, then you can see a "screenshot" of previous X session. Just
cursor moves around.

I wasn't sure whether you meant the Debian Policy's DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS
which doesn't need to be touched by pbuilder (it's passed through to
the build) or pbuilder's DEBBUILDOPTS which is used to set dpkg-bp
command-line args and can't come from the environment right now.

Bug#547159: readahead fails to check the return value of blkid_devno_to_devname

2009-09-22 Thread Justus Winter
I encountered this bug since I build a custom kernel that didn't used an
initrd.

To produce an core dump, use the attached wrapper script and change
/etc/init.d/early-readahead to use it instead of /sbin/readahead (idea
taken from https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=500946).

In my case the problem is that readahead fails to check the return value
of blkid_devno_to_devname in get_file_device/readahead.c.

The comment in devno.c from libblkid clearly states that
blkid_devno_to_devname might fail and return NULL (that's what leads to
the segmentation fault when NULL is handed to ext2fs_open), so this is
definitively a bug in readahead-fedora.

I am not sure whats the big picture here, but that's whats happening:

I added some tracing to readahead.c and blkid_devno_to_devname fails
when called with 2053 as argument. A quick test with the attached
blkid.c says that this device number resolves to /dev/root, but when
early-readahead is run on an system without an initrd, there is no
/dev/root (on my system it's symlinked to my root partition later on, I
suspect udev does this, not sure though...).

Justus
#!/bin/sh

cd /lib/init/rw
ulimit -Sc unlimited

ls -l /dev/root >root_is 2>&1
/sbin/readahead "$@" 2> readahead.stderr
#include
#include

Are you sure this was due to the length of the file name? I created such
long file name and there are no problems with that. Maybe there was a
character in it (like some bad encoded UTF-8 char) or something? What
exactly is the problematic file name?

you can run gcc -E to see the preprocessor output, or you can just
create a C file with something like:

printf("%d %d\n", LINUX_VERSION_CODE, KERNEL_VERSION(2,6,0));

to see the actual numbers produced

Bug#547785: yTNEF/Evolution TNEF Attachment Decoder Plugin Multiple Vulnerabilities

2009-09-22 Thread Ralf Becker
Package: ytnef
Version: 2.6

Multiple buffer overflow and directory traversal vulnerabilities:

Looks like there's no upstream fix available and the sf.net project
looks dead last release in 2004 :-(

Bug#547394: netenv: initsript shoulbe placed before networking

2009-09-22 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

user initscripts-ng-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org
usertag 547394 + incorrect-dependencies
thanks

The proposed patch is wrong. To ensure that netenv is executed before
the network is brought up, it need to specify this in the header. And
changing $local_fs to mountall-bootclean do not make sense either, as
$local_fs is defined to be after mountall-bootclean.

Here is my proposed patch, making sure the netenv script is started
after the local file systems are available and before the network is
brought up.

Bug#547787: RM: bk2site ; Unmaintained

2009-09-22 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hello, archive administrators and QA team.

The package bk2site is unmaintained for years and does not work well with
bookmark folders with unicode names (#250236). His maintainer is inactive for
years as well. (I just checked with the mia-query tool). The “echelon”
information indicates that he posted somewhere in May 2009 a message with the
ID e1m1bp9-eo...@junior, but I did not find anything in our archives, nor
in Gmane or Google.

If need is, can somebody of the QA team confirm that removal is OK?

Have a nice day,

Bug#547788: apt: apt-get install gets confused with multiple available versions

2009-09-22 Thread Marius Vollmer
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.23.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

When giving a virtual package to "apt-get install", apt-get tries to
select a real package instead of the virtual package when it is obvious
which real package to select.

This doesn't work when there is more than one version of a real package
available. The attached patch fixes this by ignoring package versions
that are not candidates.

Bug#256699: with file-rc, netenv cannot rely on hostname.sh being executed before it

2009-09-22 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
I just discovered this bug, and thought I should provide some
comments. I am one of the sysvinit maintainers in Debian, and thus
the maintainer of sysv-rc.

First of all, when using the legacy way of ordering init.d scripts,
like described with sysv-rc and file-rc in this bug, one need to use
_different_ sequence numbers to ensure any given order during boot.
Expecting scripts with the same sequence number to run in alphabetic
order is not possible, and file-rc is perfectly OK to run them in
installation order instead of in alphabetic order. To fix this with
file-rc and legacy boot ordering, the sequence number need to be
changed for netenv.

Next, there are confusing messages in this report. Should netenv run
after hostname.sh, or before networking? The title talk about
hostname.sh, while the emails in the report talk about networking. I
assume both are true, yet find no information about the hostname
relation.

Assuming the netenv script should execute after hostname and before
networking and ifupdown, this header fragment probably make sense for
the dependency based boot sequencing:

  # Required-start: $local_fs hostname
  # X-Start-Before: $network

If it should run after ifupdown and before networking, this fragment
should be used instead:

  # Required-start: $local_fs hostname
  # Should-Start: ifupdown
  # X-Start-Before: networking

Happy hacking,

if they are absolutely needed to ne to work, you can leave there; but
anyhow, for 300k I won't bother that much to split a package.

Bug#547790: udev net.agent does not record add action for tun/tap devices

2009-09-22 Thread Alex Bligh
Package: udev
Version: 0.141-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

When a tun/tap device is added, /lib/udev/net.agent ignores the event, and the
appropriate configuration line in
/etc/network/interface is not executed. Line 70 of net.agent says "these
interfaces generate hotplug events *after*
they are brought up", however at least in respect of tun/tap devices,
investigation shows that this is not true.
If tun & tap are removed from the list in the following 'case:' statement,
things start working.

To duplicate this bug, you will need 2 machines:
On machine 1, ensure the following is in /etc/network/interfaces
# Tunnel interface
allow-hotplug tun0
iface tun0 inet static
address 192.168.2.2
netmask 255.255.255.0

Now on machine 2 (as root)
 machine2# ssh -w any r...@machine1.
 Password: [enter password]

   On machine 1 (as root):
 machine1# ifconfig -a

You will notice tun0 is not configured with the IP address given.

An 'strace -fp' of udevd shows that net.agent is being exected with the
'add' in $ACTION and 'tun0'
   in $INTERFACE as expected.

If the above instructions are repeated with the attached patch applied, the
tun0 device IP address is correctly
applied.

What does 'which start-stop-daemon' say? Is it possible that you
installed some local version of the dpkg utilities at some point? The
start-stop-daemon in dpkg 1.15.4 definitely supports the --iosched
option.

Hi,

I had contact with Piero, and he told me that the new version 0.9.2
didn't fix the problem, I was a "prerelease" which did not solve the
problem.
It wasn't ready for the whole wide world so he removed it again.
They are working on an new version and Piero will keep me informed.

Bug#542979: graphviz: FTBFS: gv_tcl.cpp:2052: error: expected, unqualified-id before '%' token

2009-09-22 Thread Ludovico Cavedon
package graphviz
tags 542979 + patch
thanks

Hi,
I am attaching a couple of patches I had to apply to make graphviz compile.

30_fix_ftbfs_gv_i.patch fixes the problem described in this bug. Some
code processed by swig has to be moved at the beginning out of the  { }
block.

However, the package will still FTBFS because of a changed parameter of
swig (-php, instead of -php5). See patch 40_swig_php_param.patch
I was not able to recover since which version swig changed that option.
It would be wise to put that version in the Build-Depends.

As a final note: graphviz will FTBFS also if tcl8.4 or previous are
installed, so

Build-Conflicts: tcl8.4, tcl8.3

should be added to the control file.

Thanks,
Ludovico

Bug#547794: mediatomb: LSB dependency headers seem to be wrong

2009-09-22 Thread Michael Meskes
Package: mediatomb
Version: 0.12.0~svn2018-4
Severity: normal

Is there any reason why mediatomb has to be started after all other init
scripts have been run and stopped before everything else? This seems to be
highly unlikely as that would mean that mediatomb has a relation to all other
installed packages.

Anyway, if you already depend on $all, the Should-Start and Should-Stop lines
seem to be superfluous.

Bug#256699: with file-rc, netenv cannot rely on hostname.sh being executed before it

2009-09-22 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
tags 256699 + patch
thanks

I talked with the package maintainer on IRC, and he believed the
netenv script needed to run after ifupdown with sequence number 39 and
before networking with sequence number 40 which is an impossible
situation with the current legacy boot ordering.

A closer look at the netenv package did not expose anything calling
ifupdown, and this make me believe it can actually start before
ifupdown, and thus should use sequence number 38.

This patch should move it to sequence number 38, and make sure it get
a similar boot order when using dependency based boot sequencing. I
also assume it need to run after hostname based on the title of this
bug. If this is not true, that part can be removed from the
required-start header. This patch should also solve bug #547394.

The maintainer plan a new upload very shortly, but if he failed to
upload within two days, it is OK with an NMU.

Bug#547798: [gettext]: gettext.h incompatible with g++ -pedantic (error: ISO C++ forbids variable length array ‘msg_ctxt_id’)

2009-09-22 Thread Jens Seidel
Package: gettext
Version: 0.17-7
Severity: important

Hi,

compiling
#include "/usr/share/gettext/gettext.h"

int main()
{
  return 0;
}
with g++ -pedantic results in:

/usr/share/gettext/gettext.h: In function ‘const char* dcpgettext_expr(const
char*, const char*, const char*, int)’:
/usr/share/gettext/gettext.h:201: error: ISO C++ forbids variable length

/usr/share/gettext/gettext.h: In function ‘const char*
dcnpgettext_expr(const char*, const char*, const char*, const char*, long
unsigned int, int)’:
/usr/share/gettext/gettext.h:247: error: ISO C++ forbids variable length
array ‘msg_ctxt_id’

I work around it by using

 #define _LIBGETTEXT_HAVE_VARIABLE_SIZE_ARRAYS \
-  (((__GNUC__ >= 3 || __GNUG__ >= 2) && !__STRICT_ANSI__) \
+  (((__GNUC__ >= 3 || __GNUG__ >= 2) && !__STRICT_ANSI__) && !__cplusplus \

but detecting a macro which is set in pedantic mode is probably better.

Yes, perhaps (that would be like --valid).

Note: this also fails with xmllint --valid --relaxng, while --valid
requires the DTD to be processed. Strange. Perhaps libxml doesn't
use the results from DTD processing for RNG validation, or assume
that a default attribute value is different from the presence of
an attribute for RELAX NG.

2009-09-22 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Yes, if I understand correctly, the RELAX NG spec requires
DTD processing:

http://www.relaxng.org/spec-20011203.html

"It is possible for there to be multiple distinct infosets for a
single XML document. This is because XML parsers are not required to
process all DTD declarations or expand all external parsed general
entities. Amongst these multiple infosets, there is exactly one
infoset for which [all declarations processed] is true and which does
not contain any unexpanded entity reference information items. This is
the infoset that is the basis for defining the RELAX NG data model."

FWIW, the version of libpoex-role-sessioninstantiation-perl currently
in the pkg-perl SVN repository (0.092460-1) fails its tests with
libpoex-types-perl 0.091420-1 but passes with the latests upstream
version 0.092460.

Therefore updating libpoex-types-perl and
libpoex-role-sessioninstantiation-perl to their latest upstream versions
should be enough to solve this bug.

Bug#547802: lzma: coexist with xz-lzma

2009-09-22 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: lzma
Version: 4.43-14
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Background, for completeness:

 1. The Debian lzma package consists of an lzmp command, which uses the
LZMA SDK functions to handle .lzma files (i.e. lzma_alone format).

 2. There is no upstream source for lzmp. The command is maintained in
Debian in debian/patches.

 3. Until recently, most other distributions’ lzma command came from
LZMA Utils (which does have an upstream). If the Debian lzma
package is to continue to be maintainable, it should probably be
switched to that.

 4. The XZ Utils package provides its own lzma command with the
intention of superseding LZMA Utils.

 5. The essential dpkg package depends on the lzma command so it can
handle LZMA-compressed packages. This means that the lzma command
always has to be usable, since a system with LZMA-compressed
third-party packages might be relying on it. If the Debian
archive starts accepting lzma-compressed packages, this will become
even more important.

It would be nice for Debian to gently migrate from lzmp to XZ Utils.
For squeeze, current lzmp users would have the option to continue to
use lzmp or something equally well tested (like lzma from LZMA Utils),
or to switch to xz-lzma. For squeeze+1, if xz-lzma proved reliable
enough in squeeze, it would supersede lzma.

If dpkg did not pre-depend on lzma, this would be easy: just let lzma
and xz-lzma conflict and let the user decide between them. Since lzma
cannot be uninstalled, if lzma and xz-lzma conflict then xz-lzma is
not installable. (See .)

If dpkg were always installed but not essential, this would still be
easy: let lzma and xz-lzma both provide /usr/bin/lzma through the
alternatives mechanism. This would leave lzma without the functionality
dpkg depends on until lzma is configured, which is too late for a
pseudo-essential package.

Where should we go from here?

 a. Get dpkg to stop using lzma and use liblzma instead. Since dpkg
is one of the first packages a user upgrades for a new version of
Debian, this makes for an uncomplicated upgrade. lzma should
probably conflict with xz-lzma, as except for during an upgrade
there is no reason at all to have both installed.

I think this is the most sane option.

 b. Rename /usr/bin/lzma to /usr/bin/lzmp and ship a symlink from
/usr/bin/lzma to lzmp. Use diversions to make /usr/bin/lzma
point to xz when xz-lzma is installed.

This is messy, but I think it would work. I don’t want to try it.

 c. Stop shipping lzmp and rename xz-lzma to lzma.

If a sysadmin was depending on some peculiarity of lzmp, he must
force a downgrade to the older package (but security support through
oldstable would still apply). The lzma source package would still
be needed for lzma-alone and sqlzma.

Thoughts?
Jonathan

Yes, the problem can be reproduced with a fresh lenny bootstrap, a
manual diversion of /bin/sh (not with --package dash, e.g. as suggested
by bash's README.Debian), and then upgrade dash to 0.5.5.1-3.

I can also confirm that mksh no longer can provide /bin/sh at all if
dash and bash are installed. There can only be exactly one diversion
for /bin/sh, and as both packages, dash and bash, currently include
/bin/sh, the diversion must belong to either of them.

I'm not sure what the best solution is. In dash's preinst we can make
sure not only that a diversion exist, but also that it belongs to the
dash package. This would require removing a possibly existing
diversion.

If the bash package finds a modified /bin/sh symlink and no diversion,
its preinst outputs a message and prompts for RETURN, we could do
similar for the diversion in dash. That would fix the upgrade issue,
but doesn't help mksh. For multiple alternative packages providing
/bin/sh there should be a different solution than diversions, I don't
think they'll work out.

Regards, Gerrit.

Although util-linux provides /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/util-linux
initramfs-tools does not accept '-' in hook-names. See also

I request assistance with maintaining the stfl package.

The package description is:

This package contains the development files required to
 build software that uses libstfl.

I currently lack of time and interest to properly maintain the package but
I don't want to orphan it yet. Therefore I am searching for a new co-maintainer
for this package. The biggest todo would be to package the new upstream release.

Kind regards

At the moment I have half of my I2 hardware at one place and the
other half at another, so don't expect anything MIPS-related from me
until 2-3 weeks if I can bring back the hardware with me at that time.

When the screensaver is active, moving my mouse doesn't stop the

I propose to "fix" this bug by removing MC 4 from the archive once the new
Empathy 2.28 has entered testing. There is one reverse dependency, libddm-1-0
, against which
I have filed a serious bug (Empathy 2.28 makes it uninstallable anyway).

Bug#547880: libddm-1-0: depends on obsolete Mission Control 4, libempathy23

2009-09-22 Thread Simon McVittie
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Package: libddm-1-0
Version: 1.2.5-2
Severity: serious
Justification: uninstallable in unstable (now or soon, depending on arch)

libddm seems to depend on libmissioncontrol-client, and on a version of
libempathy that will no longer be available in unstable when the buildds
catch up (currently only i386 has the new version).

We also plan to remove Mission Control 4 (which provides
libmissioncontrol-client) from the archive soon. Mission Control 5 does not
provide a C library (but Empathy can interact with it directly).

Since this package appears to have been abandoned upstream, and has no reverse
dependencies and a popcon score of 1 (!), removing it from Debian would be
an easy way to solve this (less code = fewer bugs :-) If the maintainers agree
with this course of action, I'll reassign this bug to ftp.debian.org to
remove it.

Other possibilities would be to port engine-dbus/hippo-dbus-empathy.c to
work with a newer libempathy (we can help), or to turn off Empathy support in
libddm. Normally the pkg-telepathy team would consider removing Telepathy
support to be a last resort, but since libddm seems to be dead upstream and
nobody actually seems to use it, this doesn't seem like it would actually hurt
anyone...

Regards,
Simon

Bug#547881: linux-image-2.6.30-1-686: can not read/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/

2009-09-22 Thread yuri . nefedov

Package: linux-image-2.6.30-1-686
Version: 2.6.30-6
Severity: important

 Hi,

Sometimes system loses access to /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/
and as a result changing of CPU frequency is not possible.
 Simple 'cat' hangs forever:
  4979 ?D 0:00 cat
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq
In principle other programs work normally but reboot (or shutdown)
does not complete. System hangs and I use Alt-SysRq to force reboot
 (otherwise fsck reports wrong unmount).

I checked that kernel 2.6.26 does not have such a problem for me.

If I reload the wifi driver, it gets associated properly. So, I think this
could be a driver bug.

Bug#547872: pyx: manipulates site-packages/ directly, failing with Python 2.6

2009-09-22 Thread Stuart Prescott

Hi Ernesto,

Knowing that this transition was coming soon, I have already started work on
fixing the build system to solve this problem [1]. And yes, switching to dh7
is most certainly the easiest way of doing this -- almost all the complexity
of the current rules file can just vanish which is most pleasing.

Let me know if you want to take up maintenance of the package again and I can
send you my work so far for you to complete the upload. I'd appreciate at
least a reply to any of the emails I've sent you about pyx both via the BTS
and privately. Any one of:

* "please leave the package alone, I'm working on it"
* "an NMU is fine by me, go for it"
* "please look after it for me, I no longer have the time and
inclination to
work on it"

would be enough...

Assuming your continued silence, I guess I'll just carry on and arrange an NMU
as before (but it would be much nicer if you'd ACK it!).

regards
Stuart

[1] given that you seem to be inactive, as the last NMUer of the package, I'm
taking responsibility for its health. It's also a package I use on a daily
basis so I care about it being in good shape!

Thanks for the patch!, ... but unfortunately it is not enough (hence I'm
temporarily untagging this bug with "patch").

First of all the patch should be placed in the sequence before 50,
otherwise it will arrive too late. Placing it at 49 works fine.

Then, even with this patch, build fails with a different error, reported
below:

  configure.ac:177: the top level

Bug#290874: libacl1: libacl NFSv4 support

2009-09-22 Thread Roger Leigh
Package: libacl1
Version: 2.2.47-2
Followup-For: Bug #290874

Hi,

Has any further progress been made on merging NFSv4 ACL support into
libacl?

Nowadays, the Solaris acl interface supports both POSIX.1e draft and
NFSv4 ACLs. It would be great to have this support on Linux as well.

Note that the underlying filesystem need not support NFSv4 ACLs natively,
since it is possible to map NFSv4 to POSIX and back, since NFSv4 ACLs
are a superset of the POSIX draft facilities.

I'm currently implementing a protocol which requires NFSv4 support, and
it would be preferable to have this support in libacl rather than having
to redundantly implement the NFSv4<->POSIX draft mapping redundantly.

Regards,
Roger

It looks sane to me. It assumes any ia64 will need it, regardless of the
OS it's running, but I believe that doesn't matter much for ia64 =P

If there's concern you could make it:

#if (PLATFORM(X86_64) && (PLATFORM(MAC) || PLATFORM(LINUX))) ||
(PLATFORM(LINUX) && PLATFORM(IA64))

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report.

The build with python2.6 has been fixed in version 0.8.1-1 which has
not been uploaded to the archive due the lack of a sponsor.

A new version is available on mentors.d.n and it still fixes the
issue. Someone said I should join #debian-python on OFTC and "add
pointers to [my] packages to the channel topic". I'll do that when I
get the chance.

> To fix this issue, the recommended approach is to pass

I need backports to lenny, and --install-layout is not recognized in
Debian lenny.

I think the problem is about the same with dh : does not work with lenny.

Therefore, if this is not against policy, I prefer to keep my current
solution, that is until squeeze is frozen, at which point I'll migrate
the box I need backports on to squeeze.

Thanks, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong with my solution.

Bug#539215: grave or important ?

2009-09-22 Thread Helge Deller
Hmm...
I just marked this bug "grave", but I'm not sure if it should be "important"
instead. Please advise...

Fact is, that the hppa 2.6.26-2 kernel, as it's currently available, has a
major bug, which can easily hang and DOS the full machine under various loads.
I can reproduce this bug with my testcases. Given the fact that some people
consider the hppa port (and the debian build servers) not very stable, I think
it's important to fix this issue as soon as possible.

Yeah, I figured that didn't matter. :-) From what I remember, HP-UX

Please try to always include original english messages in bug reports.
Not all of us understand german. Anyway, you need to figure out why hal
fails to start. Adding 'set -x' close to the top of /etc/init.d/hal,
and running 'dpkg --configure -a' might give some more detailed
information.

Bug#547886: cdrkit FTBFS with glibc 2.10

2009-09-22 Thread Felix Geyer
Source: cdrkit
Version: 9:1.1.9-1
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch karmic

glibc 2.10 defines the POSIX 2008 symbols getline, fexecve and getdelim.
Due to name conflicts with these symbols cdrkit FTBFS.

I already posted this on the debburn-devel mailing list.

A screenshot would look normal everywhere else but on the actual
SiS-machine. Some grey turns green, some red turns magenta etc. Also
some pixels flickers.
Very hard to explain... Maybe a ordinary photopicture of the screen
would help a litle? :-)

Anyway.. here is the output of '/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3>&1' ;

Line 154 of xmllexer.c is

  c = lexbuf[lexbuf_pos];

Here are the values of the interesting variables:

(gdb) p lexbuf
$6 = 0xb3a7e008
(gdb) p lexbuf_pos
$7 = 1659

lexbuf is a private, global variable. If Rhythmbox is trying to parse
multiple podcasts simultaneously, this would cause a race condition
for this variable.

Is totem-pl-parser supposed to be thread-safe?
