Bug#538656: ftp.debian.org: squeeze-p-u/main/bin/Packages.diff/ files missing

2009-07-26 Thread Jakob Bohm
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

On ftp.debian.org (or at least all the mirrors I checked and in
/ls-lR.gz), some of the latest patch files are missing from
/dists/squeeze-proposed-updates/main/binary-xxx/Packages.diff/

This has been seen for both xxx=i386 and xxx=amd64 and may also
affect other architectures.

Symptoms:

In said directories, the file Index lists patch files dated
2009-06-27 and 2009-06-28, but those patch files are not there and
are not listed in /ls-lR.gz at the top of the archive.

I have checked the actual directory contents of 3 mirrors, none of
which contained those files. Also note that my observations were
made 4 weeks after those dates, giving the mirror network plenty
of time to resynch that directory.

Please upload the missing files or find another way to make the
archive consistent again. You may also want to check if the same
issue affects other *.diff/ directories or patch files in the
archive.

P.S.

I am aware that some current versions of apt happen to skip the
patch files as a workaround for a slow rred implementation in apt,
but this is just transitional.

It would be appreciated if the ITP'er could convey this to

This sounds cool. Does it support user-mode-linux as well?

At the moment, it can detect VMWare, Microsoft Versions of Virtual PC,

I'm betting the author would be willing to incorporate checks for

Some doubt always exists; the environment could be lying. Someone might
run UML under VMWare under Mac OS X, if that's not too ridiculous.
Which host would you like to know about?

Something to think about eventually might be nested virtualization, a la
Blue Pill. (Not something to worry about right now, though.)

What about VirtualBox, assuming it survives Oracle? (Maybe it will; the
OSE version is GPL, is it not?)

Could you send the list of version of packages that you have installed
for each build-depends of the server?

Was your unstable totally uptodate when you rebuilt the package?

Also it would be nice to know if this problem only occurs on amd64 (I
uploaded the package for i386)

Thanks

Hello,

please try attached patch.
It would be good if you could try real grub too, if it can read files
correctly.

You can find intructions how to compile in the Debian wiki [0].
Even though it's german it should be unstandable. If not please ask.

Bug#538658: ia32-fglrx-glx: needs 32-bit fglrx_dri.so to work, but no package provides it

2009-07-26 Thread Török Edwin
Package: fglrx-glx
Version: 1:9-6-4
Severity: important

Hi,

I installed 9.6-4 on amd64, and ia32-apt-get install ia32-fglrx-glx.
Everything works fine for 64-bit apps (using linux kernel 2.6.30.1),
however there is no HW accel for 32-bit apps:

libGL: XF86DRIGetClientDriverName: 8.62.4 fglrx (screen 0)
libGL error: dlopen fglrx_dri.so failed
libGL: XF86DRIGetClientDriverName: 8.62.4 fglrx (screen 0)
libGL error: dlopen fglrx_dri.so failed
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: No (If you want to find out why, try setting
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose)
server glx vendor string: ATI

It looks like it needs fglrx_dri.so which is in the fglrx-driver package,
however there is no ia32-fglrx-driver:
# ia32-apt-get install ia32-fglrx-driver
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package ia32-fglrx-driver

I have temporarily worked around this problem by copying a 32-bit fglrx_dri.so
from my 32-bit chroot:
sudo cp /home/edwin/sid-ia32/usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so /usr/lib32/dri/

Then the 32-bit apps have HW accel again.
Could fglrx_dri.so be shipped in the ia32-fglrx-glx package, or some other
package so that it is
installable on a 64-bit system?

This seems to be caused by a fix for bug #537958, previously I was able to
install
9.6-3's fglrx-glx-ia32 by editing the debian control file, and removing the
ia32-libs deps, and rebuilding the package.
Then I did have HW accel for 32-bit apps by just installing the fglrx-glx-ia32
package.

In all cases, nautilus is not intended to be run this way. The changes I
have introduced make it work without going in an infinite loop when
show_desktop is disabled. If you want any more improvements, please
provide patches.

I was using the proprietary "nvidia" one. Not "nv", nor "nouveau"

2009-07-26 Thread Sven Joachim
Package: debian-policy
Version: 3.8.2.0
Severity: normal

Section 12.2, "Info documents", contains outdated information. Nowadays
info files are installed via a dpkg trigger provided by the install-info
package, and maintainer scripts should not invoke install-info at all.
Actually, packages using dh_installinfo will not call install-info if
built with debhelper >= 7.2.17.

Any section information must be placed in the info files themselves,
rather than passed as arguments to install-info.

Bug#538669: base: Cannot compose accents with GTK applications since upgrade to squeeze

2009-07-26 Thread y
Package: base
Severity: important

Hi,

Since I've upgraded I can't create anymore accents by using a compose key
(right windows key for me).
This problem seems to only appear in all GTK application (Iceweasel, icedove,
dia,...).
Otherwise it works in a xterm, OOo and konqueror.

If I want to create a "é" normally I do : right-windows-key then ' then "e" but
I get nothing with icedove for instance.
Or if I do right-windows-key then ' then "e" AND then "e" again. I get a
reverse "e" like : "ə" :-)

I'm don't where this bug come from. It worked correctly before the upgrade to
squeeze.
Before I was in testing as well but everything should have been close from a
lenny actually. I didn't upgrade for a while.

Sorry I don't know what kind of information I can give you because I don't even
know what's doing that :(

Cheers,
Thomas

That one is really getting nasty if binary NMUs are involved:

i386: libpcre3:
  Candidate: 7.8-2+b1

amd64: libpcre3:
  Candidate: 7.8-2

ia32-libpcre3 gets a dependency on libpcre3 (= 7.8-2+b1) which is
unsatisfyable on amd64.

Bug#538674: resolvconf: Please honour "recursion no;" in /etc/bind/named.conf/options

2009-07-26 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: resolvconf
Version: 1.42
Severity: normal

Hi,

The current /etc/resolvconf/update.d/bind script does not honour the "recursion
no;" option.

This leads to resolvconf setting 127.0.0.1 as DNS server, without the local
machine being able to resolve DNS names.

The following line simply tests whether "recursion no;" is in
named.conf.options:

sed 's/^\s*//' /etc/bind/named.conf.options | grep '^recursion\s*no\;'

I do not know what do do with it!

Why doesn't resolvconf simply use the nameservers specified in /e/n/i and put
them in resolv.conf when bind is installed?
I have a bind setup running to serve my domains, but I don't want to use it as
a local nameserver. Using resolvconf, I have to do it.

Note that empty "allow-recursion {};" seems to have the same effect.

Cheers,
Julien

yes, that seems to make the problem go away.

for me anyway, speed is not a huge concern as the code path occurs during
a behind-the-scenes cronjob. i guess in an ideal world apt_pkg would
correctly parse the file and it'd be a non-issue, but barring that i'd
throw my vote in for the slower but correct implementation as well... if
only because i don't want to have to support two different versions of
deb822.Sources in my code (production is running on lenny, development
on squeeze/sid).

iceweasel fails completely to start on sparc.

Can you try again with a more recent libc ?

iceweasel 3.0.12-1 + libc6 2.9-20 seems to work now. Thanks.

I also had this problem, after upgrading mysql-server to 5.1.36-3. I
downgraded back to 5.0.51a-24+lenny1, but the server still wouldn't start.
/var/log/daemon.log said:

So I removed the 'skip-federated' option from /etc/mysql/my.cnf, and now
mysqld starts again.

Bug#511181: found the problem

2009-07-26 Thread Russell Coker
btmakemetafile.bittorrent test http://www.example.com:8000

It turns out that my mistake was to use the above command instead of the below
command to create the metafile.

btmakemetafile.bittorrent test http://www.example.com:8000/announce

I suggest that the btmakemetafile program give a warning when "/announce" is
not at the end of the URL. This won't be adequate to solve the problem but
will be a good step towards alleviating it.

What we really need is to have the tracker logs indicate the URL that was used
for accessing itself. If something obviously wrong like missing "/announce"
is done then it would be good to have that logged directly.

Yeah. That is one reason why I droped it already in the ia32-apt-get
branch. Policy 8.2 already forbids libraries to have conffiles, shared
data, binaries and so on. So anything that breaks by dropping the
i386->amd64 dependency will near certainly violate Policy 8.2. So if
things break a bugreport is in order instead of the ugly dependency
workaround.

Don't worry, this is pending.

/proc/mounts is sensitive to the root directory of the process reading
it.

Bug#538640: Another getvt test case

2009-07-26 Thread Enrico Zini
Hello,

I've noticed that openvt looks more aggressively for a console device
and I would now like to try the same technique. Can you please try the
attached version?

Interestingly, gdm just tries /dev/console. Maybe it is not a big
problem in the systems where gdm runs.

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#538226: squid: Error Pages moved

2009-07-26 Thread Luigi Gangitano

reassign 538226 squid-langpack
severity 538226 normal
thanks

Hi Ralf,
as noted in README.Debian in 2.7.STABLE6-2, error pages have been
moved to a different package (squid-langpack) which is in common
between squid and squid3 and updated indipendently upstream. With this
change directory for languages are names with ISO codes. Instructions
on needed configuration fixes are in README.Debian already.

The next version of squid-langpack will ship compatibility links for
old-style configurations.

Regards,

L

Ok. Console-setup supports almost everything X supports. However the
config script of console-setup is limited and does not support every
possible option. This is the reason of the warning. If you answered
you wanted to continue to use the "unsupported" option - it will be
supported both in X and on the console. Only dpkg-reconfigure will be
unable to reconfigure the options in /etc/default/console-setup so if
you want to make changes you will have to edit this file manualy.

Due to a bug console-setup this warning was displayed on every upgrade.
I suppose you are seeing it for first time only because 1.36 is the
first version of console-setup you have used. Since 1.44 this is no
longer the case - you see the warning only once. If you see this
warning the next time console-setup is upgraded, please submit a bug
report.

Hi David,

If I'm not mistaken, to apply

configure"

(I believe that's what worked for me.)

Bug#538695: rdate: Please use arc4random from libbsd

2009-07-26 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: rdate
Version: 1:1.2-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: glibc-bsd-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi!

Could you please switch to using arc4random from libbsd? It'd be more
generic, would fix the FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD architectures, wouldn't
break on Linux, and would also make it usable as a udeb for GNU/kFreeBSD
(we have a GSOC student working on porting d-i), while removing an
embedded code copy, which is always welcome! (Ask security folks :))

[Intensive testing has been performed by Aurélien Jarno, thanks!]

You might not want to remove both files as I did in my patch, but that's
something I'm quite used to do for my own packages, so as to make sure
the embedded code copy is never used.

Thanks for considering.

Mraw,
KiBi.

I asked Kel why these scripts have to be considered interactive and he
answered that this is due to #534711. When the scripts are executed in
parallel mode, then /proc/self/fd/0 (and /proc/self/fd/2 which is used
by console-setup) are redirected to /dev/pts/?. Because of this the
scripts think they are not executed on the console and refuse to
configure the console. I wonder if there is some other method to check
whether we are on the console or not...

Thanks for all your investigations.

As the PDF creation code hasn't been changed between 0.9.27 and
0.9.29, it must be PDF::API2. 0.72 seems to be OK, and 0.73 not.

I'll do some testing.

Could you please setup an DNS entry for it ?

It seems there is no local trace file. Please use the script
ftpsync recommended at http://debian.org/mirrors/ftpmirror#how
It will allow the mirror to be consisten during its sync, to download
only the files specific to the select cted archs, etc.

So you intend to provide a second mirror on top of the one below already
in the list ?

How much bandwidth is made available to users ?

Thanks for providing a Debian mirror and best regards.

should be replaced with

if {[package vcompare [info tclversion] 8.4] < 0} return

I'm not against changing the default. However, I'm against making it
difficult / undocumented how to use apt_pkg + shared storage. I do
care about runtimes but I want to retain the nice data structures of
deb822 nevertheless (i.e. please not make me use python-apt all
alone).

What it might make sense then is to have different top level
functions, with one maybe marked "fast" and well documenting that it
has potential drawback. The other can safely be our, slower, default.

Now that batch queue do not move at all. I need to remove all those
zero-sized files from that spool to get it back in working state.

I think batch and at need some kind of sanity-check in order to prevent
this bug happening. If file in that spool is empty, ignore it and move
to the next file job in queue. Also user could be warned with E-Mail.
There coul be also such option that simply removes all zero-sized
batchjobs without warning or error messages.

Bug#527068: unowned files after purge (policy 6.8)

I think that would be sensible, then openldap packages do the same. (ask to
purge the ldap database on purge and default to "no".)

I dont think this approach is sensible for all packages (=purge should
purge..!), but for some it is.

piuparts can be made happy by changing the piuparts source to ignore those
files. this is done for quite some files.

perhaps include a reportbug hook informing the user that the debian syslinux

though often it is difficult for people not intimately familiar with the code

Bug#537921: {.../beam: free (): invalid next size (fast)} under UML

2009-07-26 Thread Sergei Golovan
Hi!

I've tried to reproduce this bug, but I erlang works fine on i386
architecture, so the problem may be architecture-specific.

Yesterday, I've uploaded new version which can be built with debug
information included.

Could you grab 1:13.b.1-dfsg-4 sources, install libwxgtk2.8-dbg
package along with erlang build dependencies, and rebuild the package
with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS set to 'debug nostrip':

DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS='debug nostrip' dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b

(after unpacking: dpkg-source -x erlang_13.b.1-dfsg-4.dsc)?

When you install the newly built erlang-base package, running erl
should give more informative backtrace. Installing libc6-dbg package
may add even more info.

Cheers!

Package: ftp.debian.org

Please remove the package python-coverage-test-runner. It has
practically no users according to popcon, and the nose package should be
a good, easy replacement.

(I am maintainer and upstream developer of python-coverage-test-runner.)

Did it repeatedly bring down the machine or a single time? Can you still
run netatalk on this system?

makedumpfile's purpose is to dump the memory of a crashed kernel (from a
newly kexec'd "crash kernel"), ignoring user memory and pages of zeros.
It's possible to do this after booting the crash kernel through a normal
init process, but to avoid needing to pre-allocate a lot of memory for
the crash kernel, it's better if makedumpfile can run in the initramfs.
For that, we want a statically linked binary (or else we have to copy
the libz, libelf, and libdw shared libraries also into the initramfs).
It works just fine linked against libdw.a.

Bug#538706: ITP: newsstar -- advanced NNTP fetcher/sender

2009-07-26 Thread Tony Houghton
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Tony Houghton

I'm the upstream developer and I had been including a debian directory
with my releases for some time. I've just updated that and made it
lintian-clean with the intent of becoming the official (sponsored)
maintainer for it.

Newsstar is a mature project with infrequent releases and no current
known bugs.

* Package name: newsstar
  Version : 1.5.4
  Upstream Author : Tony Houghton
* URL : http://newsstar.sourceforge.net
* License : GPL (with OpenSSL exemption)
  Programming Lang: C, Perl
  Description : advanced NNTP fetcher/sender

Newsstar is designed to transfer Usenet articles as quickly as possible
between a local server (supports INN, s-news and sn) and multiple remote
servers, using "pipelining" and multithreading techniques for speed.
Other features include score-based killfiling and SSL support.

I guess it only uses a very limited functionality of it in that
case.

There is a new upstream version expected shortly, I'll do
an upload then.

Bug#538709: power button not working anymore

2009-07-26 Thread Roderich Schupp
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.26.3-1
Severity: important

After updating to the devicekit-power based g-p-m the power button on my machine
shows no effect (I have it set to "Shutdown" in the Gnome power management
preferences).
This used to work in g-p-m 2.24.4-3.

lsof shows that the two power button input devices are only opened by some
hald-addon-input
processes (and _not_ by the X server).

Bug#538711: gnome-disk-utility: gdu trayicon has default 'console' icon

2009-07-26 Thread Tom Parker
Package: gnome-disk-utility
Version: 0.3-2
Severity: minor

There's a problem with one of my disks, and the tray notification icon
was the default 'console' one, as opposed to something more informative.
Running "gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/hicolor" and re-starting
the notifier fixed this, but this should have been done by the package
(or at least one of the scripts that it calls during the install
process).
