Bug#512220: Upstream not active?

2009-03-23 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Hi all

I tried to contact upstream about the debian/ directory question but
didn't get any answer. I do not know if they are developing mumbles
actively.

The last checkin to svn at
https://mumbles.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/mumbles/branches/backports0.4-branch
was on 2008-11-29 16:29:38 +0100 (Sat, 29 Nov 2008).

Bug#509951: media-applet packaging

2009-03-23 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Hi Hugo, and all others

Cc'ing Christian

Will notice you about the packaging of media-applet. I had not much
time last weeks for that, but I will try to do the packaging of
media-applet 0.4 until this weekend. vala 0.5.7 is in unstable which
seems to be a requirement for media-applet. So hopefully it is ready
to the end of week.

The pkg-config script should be fixed, instead. I don't see a reason why
these should be necessary at all.

Many thanks for the patch - it's applied in SVN. You seem to prefer the
SVN version in this file. Any reason that you regard it higher than the
download version - any reasons for this?

In general I wonder what the current status of Biococoa.app might be.
Scott Christley has split up a separate application sequenceconverter.app
but neither a new biococoa.app nor sequenceconverter.app was finally uploaded.
Scott could you please elaborate on your plans for an upload? Any blockers
we should know about? I just polished the biococoa.app control file a bit
in SVN and wonder whether you regard it fit for upload and whether somebody
with GNUstep knowledge might be able to test whether eveything works like
expected.

Kind regards

Well, I have only one box running oidentd, so I might be somewhat
interested in having it in a good shape in Debian, but prolly not as

wouldnt be able to test every possible configuration of it.

That said, if you want it - take it and I'll be happy to help you where

Bug#520752: [gphoto-devel] [Pkg-phototools-devel] Bug#520752: libgphoto2: Cannot access Nikon Coolpix S60 anymore

2009-03-23 Thread Marcus Meissner
Hi Cyril,

This is a basic permission issue, since the camera is not yet known
to libgphoto2.

It seems generic PTP cameras no longer gets access automatically.

Simple workaround is to add:
{"Nikon:Coolpix S60 (PTP mode)", 0x04b0, 0x0171, 0},
to ptp2/library.c.

However there seems to be logic for PTP class matching, which
seems to be broken.

This line should do it, but needs the check-ptp-camera helper
installed in /lib/udev (if I remember correctly).

PROGRAM="check-ptp-camera 06/01/01", MODE="0664", GROUP="plugdev"

Ciao, Marcus

yes, it breaks installation of a python (>= 2.6) package during the python 2.6
postinst.

why not just extend your version check for any python version. Is there a reason
why it is versioned at all? I couldn't find a rationale for the current
behaviour.

Yes, this is on my TODO list. Fix will be to make the dch command run
configurable so you can set it to:
git-dch -N%(version) -S -a
Until then you can turn off changelog generation via:
no-dch = True

After the discussion pointed out in an earlier mail, git-send-email got
such a flag in c1f2aa45b7bdb82c4378443ae23ad9625e782fe2 [1].

It's in git-core's master branch, as of today not yet in any release,

Bug#520868: littler: Incomplete Line! Need more code!

2009-03-23 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
Package: littler
Version: 0.1.2-1
Severity: minor

littler looks like a lot of fun crammed into a
compact package.

I tried the following example from its man page

echo 'cat(pi^2,"0)' | r

Unfortunately, it complained with

littler: Incomplete Line! Need more code!

Perhaps the man page should say

echo 'cat(pi^2,"0")' | r

Thanks,
Kingsley

Bug#516566: gnome-icon-theme: 516566: move it to desktop-base

2009-03-23 Thread Fabian Greffrath

In theory, that sounds good. In practice, that implies using diversions,
which are BAD(tm), and it has a chance to break icon caching, so it’s
not that simple.

Maybe we could work with a fallback icon? How about this:

- The original start-here icon in the gnome-icon-theme package is
  renamed to start-here-gnome
- The Debian swirl logo will be provided as start-here icon in the
  desktop-base package
- gnome-icon-theme recommends desktop-base
- If desktop-base is not installed, GNOME applications won't find the
start-here icon anymore and should use the start-here-gnome icon
  instead (fallback)

This way the Debian desktop would be branded by default. The branding
could be easily removed and the original state restored by removing
the desktop-base package. No diversions between packages would be
necessary in this scenario. Sounds reasonable?

Cheers,
Fabian

Bug#520608: pidgin: occupies huge amounts of memory

2009-03-23 Thread Tomasz Obrębski
I've tried to check this with plugins loaded and after that I've turned them
off (one by one) and the results were still the same. I don't think it has
something to do with plugins. And yes, it does happen just by opening IM and
multiple contact bookmarks. Even without opening any contact window it
occupies ~50MB which I is still too much for pidgin.

It's an upstream bug, to be fixed in 0.24.8. If you need a fix
before that, one possibility is to install my backported packages
which you can find at
http://debian.madduck.net/repo/pool/main/p/puppet or with this line
in sources.list:

  deb http://debian.madduck.net/repo lenny-backports main

Those have the patch applied which fixes the problem.

I'm sorry, it looks like I was wrong - something pulled those libraries
into my project, but it wasn't the pkg-config file.

I'm sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the quick upload, but this probably shouldn't be a native package?

This seems to be a result of the fix for #501460, which recently
entered sid in file/5.00-1.

The best solution is probably to put compatibility code in
libfile-libmagic-perl so that it works in both cases.

Bug#520872: libcdk5: Please package new upstream version 5.0.20090215

2009-03-23 Thread Anthony Fok
Package: libcdk5
Version: 5.0.20090215-0.1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hello John!

A new upstream release of libcdk5 is available. Please package it
at your convenience. I was looking at installing Console Password
Manager (cpm) http://www.harry-b.de/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=harry:cpm
and noticed two things:

 1. cpm's author wrote the followign plea for help: The next release
0.25beta will work with the latest CDK5 version 20090215 and
I will publish it as soon as this CDK release makes it into
the distributions.

 2. When trying to install the upstream source of 0.22beta:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
cpm: Depends: libcdk4 (<= 4.9.10) but it is not installable
   Depends: cracklib2 (>= 2.7-15)
E: Broken packages

I already played with packaging the new version locally, and a patch
is attached. Please feel free to use it if it helps save you time.

If you are too busy, I'd be more than happy to do an actual NMU too. :-)

Thanks!

Anthony Fok

If there are non-trivial differences between platform-specific style
recommendations, how about making the output 'dialect' configurable?
Or do you think that's too much bloat?

I can see problems with functional differences (like enabling '--utf8')
between dialects, but for purely cosmetic things like bold vs. italic
this could work.

Bug#414287: eth0 to eth0_rename_ren

2009-03-23 Thread Nigel Horne
I just had to change my motherboard and when I did I lost eth0 and it
was called eth0_rename with no networking. I manually changed everything
in /etc/network/interfaces from eth0 to eth0_rename along with
firewall/routing/blah blah settings.

This morning I booted up and guess what? The same problem, only this
time I had to change eth0_rename to eth0_rename_ren in all my files and
settings. What gives? Why doesn't Linux just call it eth0, it's not
rocket science!

This is on Debian 5.0.

Bug#520880: Please make openbsd-inetd of priority Extra.

Following the thread on debian-devel, where people seemed to agree with
such a move, could you please upload a new openbsd-inetd with its
priority set to Extra instead of Standard ?

Thanks.

It's not pristine-tar's job to filter out files from the tarball.
pristine-tar's job is to commit the exact same tarball given as
argument.

git-import-orig has a filter option and I expect that the filter
option filters effectively the tarball before giving it to
pristine-tar. Otherwise, I'll have a tarball in pristine-tar branch
having more files than what was committed in the upstream branch. I
don't think that this is the desired behavior.

Bug#520882: fglrx-modules-2.6.26-1-686: Prevents shutting down gdm & uswsusp

2009-03-23 Thread Harri Kiiskinen
Package: fglrx-modules-2.6.26-1-686
Version: 2.6.26+8-12-2
Severity: important

This is an ephemereal thing, and I'm not sure fglrx is the real cause, but its
presence makes it manifest.

When the fglrx kernel driver is loaded, gdm is running, and X is using the
fglrx driver (all from testing as of 2009/03/23), there are two ways to lock
the computer (Acer Travelmate 8100) so, that
nothing except five seconds of power button has any effect:

1. Try to kill gdm with /etc/init.d/gdm stop. This actually does not hang yet,
but it does not kill all the processes, there is one instance of gdm and one of
X still running after this. Nothing
appears in the log files. Now, to try to kill either of these still running
processes either has no effect (even by root with kill -9) or locks the
computer as described.

2. Try to hibernate the computer with s2disk from uswsusp. The display switches
to console, with the preliminary hibernation message, and after that, nothing
happens. Only way out through the power
button. A few times it has been possible to switch to another VT, and actually
write a command using the root accout loogged in there, but after pressing
enter, nothing happens, and no prompt appears
any more.

In neither case, there's nothing in the log files that seems related to the
case, things just stop.

If I remove the fglrx kernel driver from my system, both 1. and 2. work as they
should. It does not matter, whether I use the precompiled modules from testing
or compile the modules with module
assistant.

I'm willing to provide more information, but need to be productive, and did
remove fglrx kernel module already, as I don't strictly need it. I'd attach the
logs if they had anything to show around the
times of the crash...

Bug#520881: citadel-webcit: please relax citadel-common dependency

2009-03-23 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Package: citadel-webcit
Version: 7.43-dsfg-1
Severity: normal

Hi maintainers,

citadel-webcit comes with a strict dependency on citadel-common (= 7.43-1),
which results in unnecessary pain if you want to binNMU citadel-common
or just install a test build with a different revision.
I'd suggest to use something like
citadel-common (>= 7.43), citadel-common (<< 7.44)
as dependency.

Cheers,

Bernd

Bug#518359: mksh "set -e" handling

2009-03-23 Thread Thorsten Glaser
tags 518359 confirmed fixed-upstream
thanks

I got a fix in mksh-current and am testing that right now; code similar
to the one in question from resolvconf has made it into an mksh testcase.
mksh now adheres more strict to the standard, so that scripts exploiting
them should work as expected (“set -e” had its issues in ancient shells).

It is interesting to note that, while there is a patch in Debian pdksh,
from the pdksh upstream which is dead since 1999, that that patch, while
“fixing” this bug, introduces problems in “set -e” handling breaking BSD
make (so it _was_ indeed the same part of the code), whereas OpenBSD made
a fix not breaking – GNU bash similarily fails there.

I’m not tagging this as “pending” yet because I’d like to get #518355 be-
forehand, but have no idea how to do so…

bye,

The issue is also there with the xine-ui and gxine programs. I was
advised to sent bug reports to the main programs so I started with
totem-xine. If totem-xine does not do the ALSA API calls then forward the
bug to libxine, but will that result in the fixing of the ALSA API calls
for end users of totem-xine?

Best regards,

Just to make sure we communicate properly: I understand what the phrase
"Kerberos framework" means, I was wondering if the very similar phrase
"Kerberos.framework" in the package description (with a dot instead of a
space between the words) is a spelling mistake or if it is intentional,
and perhaps refers to something else.

If you already caught this, excellent. Just want to make sure we are on
the same page.

Yeah, it certainly could.

I've tried

from the docbook-dsssl package and it worked fine, but it seems to be a
postscript document. Can you attach a sample file that you can't open? Can you

Bug#398148: chuck not functional on amd64

2009-03-23 Thread Samuel Thibault
tags 398148 + patch
thanks

Hello,

I can confirm the bug. It is indeed due to chuck assuming that longs
are 4 bytes. The attached patch fixes that. Note that I avoided
changing the 0x3 mask because as documented it is just an "additional
word count" and will already be below 4.

Problem is: I do not get any audio output, but that's also the case when
I try to run the 32bit version, so I guess that's another bug.

Thanks for noticing and reporting this.

Even though wikipedia2text is a bash script, there is one line where

Are you using swap on RAID? How exactly do you use md1 (which is

Bug#516540: libapache- instead of libapache2-

2009-03-23 Thread Alberto Gonzalez Iniesta
Hi Rhonda!

The description will be fixed in the next upload. Regarding the package
name, it was named libapache2- when there was a libapache- module (for
Apache v1) and Apache v1 in Debian. Now that none of them are present, I
think Apache modules should be named libapache- (and hopefully that will
be true in the future).

Alberto

Bug#398148: chuck not functional on amd64

2009-03-23 Thread Eugeniy Meshcheryakov
Hello Samuel,

I tried chuck with your patch on amd64. chuck.alsa gives no sound.
chuck.oss gives some sound. But it does not match at all the sound
generated by chuck it 32-bit chroot (on the same machine, both
chuck.alsa and chuck.oss work fine). I think there are more problems
then fixed by your patch. During compilation there are a lot of warnings
(mismatch between int/long, int/size_t, dereferencing type-punned pointer)
that can break chuck.

Bug#520886: tryton-server: Impossible to install: rely on missing paths and files

2009-03-23 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: tryton-server
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: normal

Postinst of tryton-server fail because none of the following files
exist on initial install:

/usr/lib/tryton-server/addons
/etc/tryton-server.conf
/var/log/tryton.log

Creating the dir and touching the files makes postinst succeed but then
sysV script fails because the following file does not exist:

/etc/default/trytond

Changing /etc/init.d/tryton-server to use /etc/default/tryton-server
makes that script not fail and the packages succeed to install, but the
daemon writes nothing to the log file.

ps -ax | grep tryton reveils that the daemon rely on the following
missing files:

/etc/trytond.conf
/var/log/trytond.log

Getting the source package and manually installing its configfile makes,
and renaming the logfile touched earlier, makes the daemon write to the
logfile that it is ready to serve (but on another port than described in
README.Debian).

Still, tryton-client claims that the database is missing (but when I try
to add it, it complains that it exist already).

That's when I gave up: As is, this package is unfit for release!

Please note that Debian "unstable" does not refer to the stability of
each package but to the distribution as a whole: Unstable packages
should only ever be released to "experiemental".

Kind regards, and looking forward to play with a working tryton package,

Oh, this morning chuck.oss does give me sound (alsa still doesn't).

Ah? Could you post your .ck file? I tried the manual's

SinOsc s => dac;
while( true ) {
100::ms => now;
Std.rand2f(30.0, 1000.0) => s.freq;
}

it seemed to work fine.

Yes, the amount of warnings is a bit scary :) The mismatches are only
for printing, however. Since chuck defines a VM, it may be good to use
-fno-strict-aliasing to fix type-punning.

Bug#514269: plasma is not sending a notify refresh to some applications

2009-03-23 Thread Pedro Celestino dos Reis Rodrigues
Hello Armin

After some time dealing with a crazy hardware?? problem in my main box I
am able to give some more information about the refresh problem.

The problem never shows up in case kwin composite effects are
active. So, if the problem is originated in X level, as you mention, it can be
avoided at kwin/plasma level.

The problem persists in KDE 4.2.1 + qt 4.4.3-2. I have not tested qt 4.5 yet.

The problem is reproducible for every graphics card I have access. (Nvidia,
ATI, Intel)

Despite it may be reproducible for every application as you say, it have much
more impact in some aplications (allways in my experience) and less impact on
others (barely in my experience)

The file is /usr/share/doc/chuck/examples/basic/foo.ck . Your file works
fine on my machine with chuck.oss, but not chuck.alsa (both work fine in

I don’t know whether the fallback mechanism will work as expected.

Bug#518136: wcd: reverse options -v -V

It's a bit difficult to follow top-posted emails, when the
conversation does not flow naturally.

From user perspective, unifying the command line options would be a good
thing, thus I propose moving forward with -v, --verbose and -V,
--version as they are also GNU standards.

I have not searched much, but what I have seen so far is that Gnu
standardises only on the long options.
See
http://www.gnu.org/prep/standards/html_node/Command_002dLine-Interfaces.html
Can you point me to a document about standardised short options?

We can observe the use of equivalent short options in GNU programs (as
shows in previous messages). The utilities that are used daily, those
of:

cp -v
mv -v
ssh -v -v
...

determine what is is the interpreted meaning of lowercase "-v". many use
that daily to mean "verbose" It should not be a big switch for other
programs to follow similar convention. A more consistent interface would
be welcomed in all aspects.

Those other programs that you referred to, that use -v differently,
would be welcomed to change accordingly.

Jari

Hi,

Eric S. Raymond writes in his "The Art of Unix Programming" a list of
single letter options which are not uncommon to experienced Unix users
(http://www.faqs.org/docs/artu/ch10s05.html). In this list -v is for
verbose and -V for version number as you propose. This document is not a
specification, but the experience of Eric. My experience is different.
Option -v for verbose etc is only standard on GNU applications is my 14
year experience. When you are not on Linux, but on a commercial Unix
version, everything is different. POSIX does not prescribe any specific
option (see
http://www.iam.ubc.ca/guides/javatut99/essential/attributes/_posix.html).
GNU only standardises the long options as I already mentioned. X toolkit
does it also different.

Wcd is used also by many people who work on Unix (not Linux), who are
not used to GNU command line options. In the beginning I used wcd many
years on HP-UX and Solaris.

For a long time I have been thinking to use the getopt() function, but
two issues stopped me from doing it.
* The function is often not included if you use an other compiler than
gcc. So I had to include getopt() in my source. I found it too big.

* I use besides the hyphen also the plus switch.

My conclusions are:
* There exists no standard that prescribes -v for verbose or -V for version
* There is no tradition to use -v for verbose. It may look like a
tradition for people who have only used Linux and GNU applications.

* GNU only standardised some long options.
* Many GNU programs use -v for verbose and -V for version.
* Many programs (also with GNU license) use -v for version.

For me this is a non-issue. I will switch options -v and -V.
Using long options for Wcd would be joke, because wcd is all about
reducing typing.

best regards,

Erwin Waterlander

I just reviewed the patch (after Fathi committed it to kdebase-workspace
packaging), and I ended up disabling it.
It is breaking the abi of the public libraries in kdebase-workspace and it
does not look like upstream cares about abi for that library.

I guess we either really need to convinec upstream, which is probably hard, or
we need to manage the SOVERSION of the solid related libraries in kdebase-
workspace ourselves.
Maybe even fully split the current kdebase-workspace-libs package in its
individual libraries :/

Comments anyone?
Anyone up for any of the tasks?
