Yes. There is very few documentations, and I'm not so good writing
manpages. From sources there are only two options:
"-d" and "--unknow" (no ui, print unknow symbols), and few
UI keys:

Z, A, D, Up, Back: previous process
X, B, C, Down, Forward: forward one process
Q: quit
R: refresh data

I'm using 2.0.0.14-1 (and GMail) to reply, and the problem is still
there. I got these packages installed, that iceweasel could be using
as spell checker:

zion:/debs# dpkg -l '*spell*' 'dictionaries-common' | grep ^ii
ii aspell 0.60.5-2.1
ii dictionaries-common 0.98.5
ii hspell 1.0-4

ii libaspell-dev0.60.5-2.1

ii libgtkspell0 2.0.10-4
ii libhunspell-1.1-01.1.9-1
ii libhunspell-1.2-01.2.2-1

but iceweasel defines no Suggest in any spellchecker: does it use its own?

Thanks for the support,
Sandro

Bug#477197: No dead tilde in Spanish keymap please

It's frustrating when you want to type 'rm *~' and instead of that you get

key, so there's no problem.

Please revert the change.

Bug#477274: hotway: DAV protocol to be withdrawn on 2008/06/30 - will stop this package working

2008-04-22 Thread Phil Reynolds
Package: hotway
Version: 1:0.8.4-2.1
Severity: wishlist

Hotmail have just sent me a warning of the withdrawal of the DAV
protocol - they guessed I was using Outlook Express, whereas I am
actually using the hotway suite. According to the mail, this protocol
will be withdrawn at the end of June. Microsoft are recommending
downloading Windows Live Mail, which is unlikely to be of much use to
me.

The project's own web page seems to be broken, so I have not been able
to check it for advice.

This package will need rework to use protocols still supported if it is
to continue to support hotmail.

Bug#468549: reportbug: Problem solved and some thoughts.

2008-04-22 Thread Joona Kiiski
Package: reportbug
Version: 3.39-0.1
Followup-For: Bug #468549

Okay, now it all becomes clear. It seems that many ISPs are nowadays blocking
all outgoing connections to SMTP servers (except their own) and this was
exactly the case with my problem. Changing the smtphost to my ISP's smtphost
fixed the problem.

Some thoughts:

- As this blocking behaviour is getting very common among ISPs, many newbies
will fail to send bug reports (because they have never heard of SMTP or are
just too laze to figure out name of their SMTP-server (like me), because
web browser based mail is getting very common.

Solutions?:
* Should reportbug wizard check if it can connect to bugs.debian.org SMTP-port
before writing .reportbugrc, if not then DEMAND SMTP-host.

* Even better solution might(?) be to run fallback SMTP-server in
bugs.debian.org
using some non-standard port. If reportbug fails to connect port 25, it could
then
 try that fallback port.

Thank you for help!

Bug#477277: provide a second level of limit functionality

2008-04-22 Thread martin f krafft
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.17+20080114-1+b1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

I have a number of filters which I constantly want "on" when
I browse my mailboxes, such as:

 ~(~hX-Ignore-Thread)

or

 ~h'X-Label: Debian::mutt'

I would like to be able to treat these independently of the standard
function, for a number of reasons:

 - I use a lot
 - I want to be able to change the limit without having to re-run
the expensive ~h filters noted above every time
 - I would like to be able to replace an existing filter by just
starting to type, which replaces the entire line. If I have to
use the same for the aforementioned "persistent"
filters, then, to replace e.g. ~L dato with ~s mutt, I have to
use the cursor keys to navigate to the end of the persistent
filters and hit ctrl-k before I can change the filter.

Thanks for your consideration.

Bug#477276: exit code 1 in case of success

2008-04-22 Thread Peter Eisentraut
Package: nss-updatedb
Version: 9-1
Severity: normal

I run "nss_updatedb ldap" from a cron job. This call returns exit code 1 even
if the call was successful. This results in complaining mails from cron.

The cause is that returns the nss_status directly, which I see defined as:

enum nss_status
{
 NSS_STATUS_TRYAGAIN = -2,
 NSS_STATUS_UNAVAIL,
 NSS_STATUS_NOTFOUND,
 NSS_STATUS_SUCCESS,
 NSS_STATUS_RETURN
};

I think this should be fixed to return something along the lines

 (status == NSS_STATUS_SUCCESS ? 0 : 1)

Or at least the unusual exit codes should be mentioned in the man page.

Bug#477282: libapache-authcookie-perl: Could we remove this package?

2008-04-22 Thread Michael Meskes
Package: libapache-authcookie-perl
Version: 3.10-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

while reviewing some packages, your package came up as a package that
should maybe be removed from the archive, because:

* Last maintainer upload 2006, two version lower than the current
 upstream version.
* Low popcon with only ~70 installed.
* Release goal bug open and unanswered since 16 May 2007.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.

If you agree that it should be removed, please send the following commands:

severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM: -- RoM;
thanks

Thank you,
Michael

Bug#477278: clamav: Please provide 0.93 packages

2008-04-22 Thread Mario Iseli
Package: clamav
Severity: important

Hello Stefan,

could you please upgrade the packages to 0.93 soon? Or is there a reason
not to do it?

There is also another thing which i personally do not find sexy:
etch-backports: 0.91.2-4.0lenny1~bpo40+1
etch-volatile: 0.92~dfsg-1~volatile2

Could you try to bring the packages in both archives into sync?
Especially because several problems with 0.91 are known (updating
the virus patterns doesn't work sometimes).

Upstream does also highly recommend to use 0.93.

Thanks and regards,
Mario

Mike Hommey wrote:

Correct. g*cc* 4.3, not g*++*-4.3. What you compile is C++ file using c++,
though, so what gets used is g++.
If you looked at the top buildlog you would have seen that it was built on
mundy (while xulrunner was built on caballero):

Automatic build of iceape_1.1.9-2 on mundy by sbuild/ia64 98
Build started at 20080419-1251
[...]
Toolchain package versions: libc6.1-dev_2.7-8 gcc-4.3_4.3.0-3 g++-4.3_
binutils_2.18.1~cvs20080103-4 libstdc++6-4.3-dev_ libstdc++6_4.3.0-3
[...]

Note the non-mentioning of a g++ 4.3 and libstdc++6-4.3-dev version.
-> inconsistent chroot, I guess it used g++ 4.2 then which of course
works

In contrast to this, xulrunner from caballero:

[...]
Toolchain package versions: libc6.1-dev_2.7-10 gcc-4.3_4.3.0-3
g++-4.3_4.3.0-3 binutils_2.18.1~cvs20080103-4 libstdc++6-4.3-dev_4.3.0-3
libstdc++6_4.3.0-3
[...[

So if mundy had a proper chroot, iceape (and icdeove) would have failed
there, too...

#2967: limit could be smarter about filtering

Changes (by madduck):

* cc: (added)

Comment:

Instead of something magic, like selecting expensive filters, mutt should
really just run filters left-to-right. '~L dato ~b mutt' would then mean
that
'~b mutt' only gets run on the messages which passed the '~L dato' filter.

If we do decide to have co-installable -dev packages, the next
question is how do we handle the current non-versioned includes and
link libraries? Do we follow what gcc and python do, providing a

provide such defaults? I fear the first option will bring us back to
the same misery we currently suffer with transitions. So I'm fine
with not providing defaults, which is in line with upstream practices
anyway.

What would that imply?
Would users have to modify the build script to add the Boost include
directory to the include path?

Likely, yes.

At the moment this is not necessary and I think requiring it is a bad
idea (for users that have to compile third-party code)

Noted. On the other hand, some might like the flexibility of deciding
which Boost version to build with, similar to the ability to choose
between Qt3 and Qt4.

Without knowing the amount of incompatibility between the two versions,
it's hard to say.
That said, it's not necessary for both -dev packages to be
co-installable to achieve that, right?

Even if you install both, can't you make sure the default is to use the
one version without requiring build scripts to be modified?

I also removed the Boost library version from the link library names.
However, reflecting upon what you say, I suppose we really prefer to
have version X-dev and version (X+1)-dev co-installable. If so, we
would revert that change and adjust the rules accordingly.

Is there documentation about the incompatibilities between 1.34 and 1.35?

No, not that I'm aware of.

Chimo,
-Steve

6.10-5, 6.10-4 and 6.10-3 all built fine on hppa, on the bld-3 buildd.

Hi!

It would be nice if debian/NEWS.Debian could get checked, too. After
all that's the name the file will end up in the doc dir and would be
more obvious, after all dh_installdocs also wants README.Debian and not
only README.

Thanks in advance,

I am afraid these options are either kludgy or not easily implementable. The
error message that you get when reportbug is not able to send mail ("SMTP send
failure") is a give-away, and I would be inclined to mark this as wontfix if I
were the maintainer.

If you hit java with strace you'll see that it is trying to use
libnss_mdns4_minimal.so.2, which is available in the package
lib32nss-mdns. You should add a dependency on that to fix the bug.

Same thing happens for sun-java6-bin - libnss-mdns is used here.

Cheers,

Bernd

Bug#477262: git-buildpackage: [git-import-dsc] Filter .orig out of the upstream version

I get: 0.9.0a as version with logstalgia_0.9.0a.orig.tar.gz:
 ^^^

py>
r=re.compile(r'^[a-z\d\-]+_(?P[a-z\d\.\~\-]+)\.orig\.tar\.(gz|bz2)')
py> r.match('logstalgia_0.9.0a.orig.tar.gz').groupdict()
{'version': '0.9.0a'}

for the correctly named tarball and I get:

with logstalgia-0.9.0a.orig.tar.gz:
 ^^^
py> r=re.compile(r'^[a-z\d\-]+-(?P[a-z\d\.]+)\.tar\.(gz|bz2)')
py> r.match('logstalgia-0.9.0a.orig.tar.gz').groupdict()
{'version': '0.9.0a.orig'}
^

for the "incorrectly" named tarball.

This is expected since the later doesn't match the regex for Debian
upstream tarballs and so we use another regex for that (one that matches
what you usually download from upstream).

Did you expect anything different?

Just to be sure: you're talking only about git-import-orig here?

2008-04-22 Thread Mutt
#2967: limit could be smarter about filtering

Comment (by pdmef):

Actually that's the case: see perform_and() and perform_or() in pattern.c.

A simple '~d<1m~bfoo' limit is way faster than '~bfoo~d<1m' on a folder
with many message older than one month.

Do you have any numbers suggesting that in '~L dato ~b mutt' all messages
not matching '~L dato' get body-scanned, too?

I think this ticket can be closed unless you still want patterns to be run
through an optimizer prior to execution, i.e. a feature request.

Yes, I read that too. But the description of "--uid" reads:

--uid ID
Force the new userid to be the given number. adduser will
fail
if the userid is already taken.

This is what I experienced. I guess the problem was caused by the fact
that the forcing call always took place, even with the correct UID, and
failed.

> How is slurm user exported? What are its uid and gid?

The SLURM user is not exported in my setup ATM. It exists on all nodes
as system user with the correct UID and GID. (The patch works as
expected now since it just calls adduser to correct the UID or to add
the user if it doesn't exist. I can't think of other cases where adduser
is needed.) So the different effect on master/compute nodes was probably
something weird going on in my system. Sorry for the noise!

Best regards
Manuel

Summary: Build fails with new JavaCC beta - MakeJavafilesFiles

Initial Comment:
The new version of JavaCC (not yet released, but available from JavaCC's
CVS) generates code with comments of the form:

 /** Token Manager. */

Unfortunately MakeJavafilesFiles.java doesn't handle this type of comment
- if the comment starts with "/**" it only looks for "**/" as a comment
terminator (if it is a single-line comment). I have attached a patch I use
in the Debian build to fix MakeJavafilesFiles.java (although you may want
to fix it in a more robust way).

(If you need the newer version of JavaCC I would be happy to send you the
jar).

Thanks.

Hi Paul,

at some point I've looked for a good Java source parser that also parser
JavaDoc, but never found a free tool for that. No idea, why it specifically
looks for **/... I'll apply the patch.

Comment (by madduck):

I used to have a different GPG key and when I search over my store box
limited
to e.g. '~L dato ~b mutt', I get prompted for the passphrase of the older
key,
even though I never used it to sign or encrypt keys to dato.

I'll try to come up with a test mailbox.

Is there an estimated release date for TeX Live 2008?

I understand, however, if Tex Live 2008 is released before Lenny freezes
and can be packaged in time, then there's no need to go through this
additional package patching and respin. The Tex Live 2008 release date
and Norbet's packaging plans would determine if this is possible.

The patches aren't *explicitly* for ICU 3.4. IIRC most of them were
applied to the pre-3.6 codebase. Here are Eric's ICU checkins which are
relevant to adding Sinhala support:
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/18370
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/18491
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/19979
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/19159
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/20656

Finally, to get correct Sinhala rendering you will also have to checkin
this fix (wait till Eric checks it into ICU's SVN):
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/ticket/6232

The issues with the submitted patch are:
1) The ooffice crashing workaround code, which renders incorrectly for
one codepoint, is made redundant by the increase of the worst case
expansion from 3 to 4.
2) The change to LEFontInstance.cpp does directly affect other scripts.
Probably more risky than the state table changes.
3) It still contains the bug mentioned in ticket 6232.

cya,

Autumn. No definitive release date.

No. It will not be in lenny. Lenny is already in half-freeze ...

Bug#477288: Aptitude crashes on Ctrl-Down keypress

2008-04-22 Thread Stefan Klinger
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.10-1+b2

When I select a package in aptitude, and press Ctrl-Down, aptitude crashes
after the next keypress. Example:

1. Start aptitude and select a package, e.g., the aptitude package.
2. Press [Ctrl-Down], then press [/].

aptitute immediately terminates, the terminals shows the following text (where
first and last line are the shell prompts, indentation added by me):

 :/home/sk# aptitude
 sh: reportbug: command not found
 Reporting a bug in aptitude:
Uncaught exception: Unable to read from stdin: Success
 :/home/sk#

I installed 'reportbug' to report the bug, and ended up with the following:

1. Start aptitude and select the aptitude package.
2. Press [Ctrl-Down]

aptitude disappears, and the original terminal is shown with the following text:

 :/home/sk# aptitude
Warning: no reportbug configuration found. Proceeding in novice mode.
Running 'reportbug' as root is probably insecure! Continue [y|N|q|?]?

3. I don't want to do that: Press [N], [Return]

aptitude shows again. But after the next keypress it dies:

4. Press [/]

aptitute immediately terminates, the terminals shows the following text:

 :/home/sk# aptitude
Warning: no reportbug configuration found. Proceeding in novice mode.
Running 'reportbug' as root is probably insecure! Continue [y|N|q|?]? n
 reportbug stopped.
 Reporting a bug in aptitude:
Uncaught exception: Unable to read from stdin: Success
 :/home/sk#

This seems to be a Heisenbug [1], somewhat related to whether 'reportbug' is
available or not. I guess that the way 'aptitude' calls 'reportbug' is buggy.

Bug#477194: followup

2008-04-22 Thread Riccardo Stagni
I think this is caused by the recent change to lsb-base/start_daemon
(see #406059). Downgrading it to 3.2-8 makes exim able to start.

I know, this isn't a solution, but at least now we have someone to blame! :)

I think, that it is necessary to add The GNU Debugger (gdb) in recommended

2008-04-22 Thread Bastian Blank
Package: krb5-user

krb5-user installs kadmin into /usr/sbin. kadmin is neither a root-only
tool nor a tool for system administration, which are the only things
who belongs into /usr/sbin. Therefor it does belong into /usr/bin.

Bug#477298: disk geometry different in dosemu

2008-04-22 Thread Michal Suchanek
Package: dosemu
Version: 1.4.0+svn.1828-2
Severity: normal

Hello

I run dosemu to use legacy disk imaging software. I use
disk { wholedisk /dev/diskdevice }
in dosemurc to access the drives in the system.

This often works but sometimes the disk geometry seen by the programs
inside dosemu is different than the one seen by Linux and BIOS leading
to various problems. Typically the geometry is switched between LBA and
normal or a 20-40G drive would be seen as 120G.

If you need some logs to diagnose the problem I will try to collect
them.

Thanks

Michal

Thanks, fixed in SVN head. Will upload soon.

It is used in the test suite, so I wouldn't like to remove it. Also,
Multipart/MIME is a standard file format which can be taken apart,
shuffled, and reassembled by a lot of standard libraries (e. g.
Python's email.mime.text.MIMEMultipart). The included overview.pdf is
just a htmldoc'ified version of doc/help/overview.html, so the source
for that is provided.

Thanks,

Martin

-pulse was rejected with the request that I "coordinate better with the
other maintainer". What we need to coordinate, I'm not sure.

Besides that, I need to add a conflicts with -extrasound and make the
package non-native. Then I will re-upload.

krb5-kdc depends against inet-superserver but don't use it per default.
It is only needed for the hprop and kprop "daemons" which needs extra
config anyway.

Are you asking about (3)?:

Finally, to get correct Sinhala rendering you will also have to checkin
this fix (wait till Eric checks it into ICU's SVN):
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/ticket/6232

Or do you want me to explain all three points?

Basically, the two options are:

a) Add all of Eric's ICU checkins that add Sinhala support:
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/18370
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/18491
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/19979
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/19159
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/20656

You will add adequate Sinhala (Sri Lankan script) support and you will
not interfere with the Indian scripts.

b) Do not add any ICU patches.

No, I was asking what does that mean for the Debian packages. The
situation is that TL2008 will not make it into lenny. That is for sure.

I am still undecided, especially due to Jonathan's remarks about
possible (but unprobable) changes to other Indian scripts, what to do.

I've being testing sshfs and checking its code for version 1.9.1.
I haven't seen in the code any way to use some of the ssh_config
options. In fact, the option ControlPath that the author of the patch
(Fabian Pietsch) tries to fix can not be used.

Also, none of the provided patches is applied, so I can not understand
why you closed this bug.

So, please, tell me if this can be done and I've not been able to do it,
or the bug just can not be closed.

Regards.
José L.

Yes, this looks broken again. The breackage (again) sneeked in with the
last upstream version.

Bug#477304: Grub fails to find /boot/boot/grub/device.map

2008-04-22 Thread Nick Hastings
Package: grub
Version: 0.97-36
Severity: important

During the runing of the postinst script for a recent kernel upgrade, grub
failed to find `/boot/boot/grub/device.map'. Instead it complained:

grub-probe: error: Cannot open `/boot/grub/device.map'

On a system with a separate /boot partition (such as this one), I
would have thought that device.map should live in /boot/boot/grub
along with menu.lst and friends. Downgrading to grub 0.97-35 did not
help, but downgradingto grub 0.97-27 in stable did.

Here is the output from the failed kernel postinst with grub 0.97-36
(note that grub install dir is correctly found at /boot/boot/grub, but
that grub-probe looks for /boot/grub/device.map):

Bug#476957: texlive-xetex: Sinhala language support

I am still undecided, especially due to Jonathan's remarks about
possible (but unprobable) changes to other Indian scripts, what to
do.

Basically, the two options are:

a) Add all of Eric's ICU checkins that add Sinhala support:
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/18370
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/18491
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/19979
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/19159
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/20656

You will add adequate Sinhala (Sri Lankan script) support and you will
not interfere with the Indian scripts.

I am doubtful that these will apply cleanly to libs/icu-xetex in
TL2007, because of the additions (including at least one
OpenTypeLayoutEngine API change) used for XeTeX. So it will require
some care to merge the changes correctly. I don't have time to look
into it, at least for this week, sorry.

If you report things against exim that will only be fixed in unstable
anyway, it is a good idea to see current docs for that. See
http://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/spec_html/index.html.

This documentation is going to answer the question you asked in the
rest of your e-mail.

Bug#477305: man-db: -f option destroys process return code of whatis

However, man -f does not use the exit status of whatis; instead, it
always returns a zero exit status:

The output of [man -f --debug foobar] is attached per the
bug-reporting note (but I expect this is a simple case of not
propagating the return code).

Bug#477197: In favor of asciitilde too

2008-04-22 Thread Alejandro Exojo
Hello.

I was very disappointed when I found that a character that is so common in
UNIX and in some URLs, now has to be typed so inconveniently. There is no
point at all in having a key to compose 'ã', etc., because those characters
don't appear in spanish or catalan (I don't know about galician or basque,
but I think it's the same). According to the spanish ortography, 'Ñ' is a
letter, not a composed character, and as such, it has its own key in spanish
keyboards.

Users who want to type in different languages, should use different keymaps,
IMVHO.

Greetings.

Bug#462734: possible fix

2008-04-22 Thread hungerburg
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.11
Followup-For: Bug #462734

I too experience this bug on a machine, where I forcibly installed
the sun-java-plugin, that for weeks now is uninstallable in unstable,
because it depends on a package that does not exist. therefore "apt-get
check" fails in the apt cron.

OTOH adding "-f" to the "apt-get check" commandline stops it from failing,
so this may be a possible solution to test the lock, yet I do not know
the exact sematics of "-f" enough to tell for sure.

please consider!

18:54 Manoj: just filing 475036 leaves the removal left to happen when
some release guy notices it -- better CC -release or prod
on irc somebody.
18:54 Manoj: I'll remove it ok?

18:55 dato: Thanks

18:58 Manoj: err
18:59 Manoj: there are two packages depending on it (cdfs-src and
dphys-kernel-packages), plus ... linux-2.6 still build-depends on
it?

18:59 dato: I was not aware of the former two; and I thought the
 kernel team had deprecated make-kpkg

19:01 Manoj: ok; can't be removed with those depends in place,
and would be nice to know what's up with the kernel,
whether they don't use it but forgot to remove the
build-dep, or what.

Bug#408802: perhaps remove instead

2008-04-22 Thread Riku Voipio
For nmu'ers looking at this bug, please test xview after
applying the patch. It is unclear if it actually works on
armel.

Secondly, I propose removal[1] of xview and it's reverse
dependencies instead, unless we see atleast somekind
of sign of maintainance work going on..

Yes, the upgrade path is very disruptive. I am close to being ready to
coordinate uploads, but not there yet.

I have nothing to do with backports.org and I did not upload there.
Please talk to whoever is in charge of that and ask them to be sexier
for you.

I'm not quite sure about this patch. It essentially removes the fancy
output and the CR after the output. But, since there is no
begin_msg before nor any end_msg after this call I wonder whether this
is the desired behaviour, especially the missing CR at the end.

Yes, the gnome-themes dependency on gtk2-engines was not strict enough.
This is fixed in the latest version in testing and unstable. Can you
confirm?

Aha. As I guessed. And you should have guessed that too given what was
fixed in -7etch5.

Err, not true. I believe you could save locally and move it to the smb
share later?

And if you think libgnome-vfs is at fault why are you filing this
against openoffice.org?

And there were *NO* changes to any component affecting gnome-vfs in
7etch5.

Bug#477309: krb5-kdc - should be able to reduce its own priviledges

2008-04-22 Thread Bastian Blank
Package: krb5-kdc
Version: 1.6.dfsg.3~beta1-4
Severity: wishlist

krb5kdc should be able to reduce its own priviledges by using
setuid/setgid to a different user after binding the ports. krb5kdc does
not support to be reconfigured on runtime anyway, so it IMHO don't need
root priviledges for working.

kadmind needs to use the same user then and the db needs to be owned by
this.
