Bug#405913: I'll try

2007-03-08 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
Hello:

Ok, Daniel, I'll try that. You have to notice this is not a repeatable error
that I know, so I will try to increase the number of repos aptitude will
manage. With this, the error is more likely to happen then.

Also I'll wait for an error to appear and then I'll try an report. Thanks.

  Regards,

This belongs in the wnpp, cause the iceweasel maintainers are not
going to package it.

You will have to get permission from Mozllla to do this and it will
need to go in non-free. Also the package can't be called firefox or
mozilla-firefox because that would break various upgrade paths.

Bug#413961: Upgrading udev only updates initrd of running kernel.

2007-03-08 Thread Andrew Vaughan
Package: udev
Version: 0.105-3
Severity: serious
Justification: Possibility of breakage after udev upgrade, reboot to different
kernel.

Hi

Upgrading a system with multiple kernels installed I noticed that only the
running
kernel has its initrd rebuilt.

Setting up udev (0.105-3) ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/udev/persistent.rules ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.18-4-686

$ ls -ltr /boot |grep init
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4374462 2006-11-26 02:58 initrd.img-2.6.17-2-686.bak
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4333704 2007-03-04 22:33 initrd.img-2.6.18-4-486
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4480292 2007-03-04 22:36 initrd.img-2.6.18-4-686.bak
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4480559 2007-03-07 18:25 initrd.img-2.6.18-4-686

Both kernels are from debian and are in grub/menu.lst. (I will report the bug
about failure to clean up the old -2.6.17-2-686.bak image seperately).

My main concern is that the sequence, install new/alternate kernel, upgrade
udev, reboot to new/alternate kernel, could result in boot failures or other
problems, if the difference between udev versions is significant.

If you are satisfied that the above won't cause problems, please feel free to
downgrade.

Thanks for your work in Debian.
Andrew

I've thought about this again and hacked up a workaround for this
issue. It's not really nice, but it will not lead to a backtrace...

Attached patch is done on top of my RE patch for the whitelists from

Which issues are you seeing with libnss-ldap? From what I see, the only
problem should be that ldapi:/// is mistaken for a host entry, is this the
problem you're seeing?

I kind of figured this was not a direct aptitude bug, but I didn't know
exactly where to file it, sorry.

The laptop managed to compile itself a kernel without crashing (this
took *at least* 24 hours, since it has only 32MB RAM and *everything* is
I/O bound because of the slw disk system). Is that a sufficiently
good memory test?

This is a known problem in the evince/poppler combination in Etch, but
has been fixed in the new versions which are already available in
experimental.

This problem needs to be fixed in poppler, not in evince. evince just
gets POPPLER_ERROR_ENCRYPTED back from poppler and tries to get a
password for the document then.

  * auctex/install.in (do_install): State the log file location; thanks to

Now I need some time to fix #408227 and #409795 as well, test and

Bug#413962: crontab -e doesn't close tmp-file before cleanup

2007-03-08 Thread Sebastian Claßen
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-100
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

In edit_cmd() (in crontab.c) the tmp-file got reopend after editing by
open_tmp_crontab() but does not get closed again before
cleanup_tmp_crontab() is called. This is no problem on most systems but
with nfs-root (and therefor /tmp on nfs also) the still open tmp file
got renamed to .nfs on unlink. So the rmdir call on the tmp-dir
fails and produces an error message. Also on program exit the empty dir
is left back in /tmp.

I'm not able to reproduce this problem, but perhaps xsysinfo is causing
your system to use a lot of memory. (On my system, it doesn't appear to
have any sort of memory leak.) On a comannd-line, could you find out
the PID of xsysinfo and then submit the contents of /proc//status?

Thanks for your quick answer :)
Here's the content of /proc//status:

BTW, regarding it taking a lot of CPU even at the xdm login screen, I'm

not sure how xsysinfo is running if there isn't an active X session on
the machine. Could you elaborate?

xsysinfo is started from /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] 10:04 /root>grep xsysinfo /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup
xsysinfo -swap -geometry 240x120+20-20 &

... this way it runs when nobody is logged, but it also runs when somebody
is logged

Thank you,

If you're going to document it, don't forget to mention that in your repair
rescue boot you have to remove the stick quickly after initrd.gz is loaded
but before Linux has a chance to detect it.

If we're going that way, I would strongly recommend NOT to link the USB
images from the download pages. They'll just make Debian look broken...

USB is detected first, which takes /dev/sda. Then SCSI is detected as
/dev/sdb. All of this happens during boot. I can send logs if you want.

I think the fixes described in your changelog have a good chance to make
it to etch. #408227 and #413318 are clearly nothing that should be
fixed in an upload targetted at etch, even if the changes are small, I
would be surprised if the release managers would let them in.

Adding "Recommends: xpdf | pdf-viewer" is probably going to be approved
by the RM's, too, but that's nothing that needs much additional testing.

Therefore I suggest to upload the package either as is, or with the
Recommends added (note that this doesn't solve all aspects of #409795).
Remember that it needs to wait 10 days in sid, and that with the kernel
problems solved, etch can be released quite fast! According to

http://bts.turmzimmer.net/details.php?bydist=both&sortby=packages&ignhinted=on&ignmerged=on&new=7&refresh=1800

there are only 39 RC bugs left that exist both in etch and sid.

Bug#402221: fixed in amanda 1:2.5.1p3-1

2007-03-08 Thread Brad Roberts

Can we expect this update to migrate into testing soon?

The versions of tar and amanda in testing conspire to make backups of
busy systems a problem due to tar's behavior change when it comes to
changed files. 2.5.1p3 fixes amanda to cope with this change.

According to http://bjorn.haxx.se/debian/testing.pl?package=amanda it
hasn't migrated automatically due to amanda being considered 'frozen' in
testing. It says to contact debian-release if an update is needed. I
figured that'd work better if it came from the package owner.

Thanks,
Brad

How is this device configured? Are you using ide-scsi on kernel 2.6.x?
If yes, don't! Read README.ATAPI.setup. If no, show the permissions and
rerun those commands with -ddd switch please. And please also show what
"ls -la /dev/sg* /dev/sr* /dev/hd* /dev/scd*" knows about your system.

Thanks for the note. Tomcat 6 will become a new package, so I'm doing an RFP
instead.

Note that Tomcat 6 uses Maven, IIRC. Perhaps it can be built without it, but
from my experience of the build system for Tomcat 5, I'm not sure I want to
mess with it...

IMHO such policies should be enforced by binding the whole buildd to a
single CPU by using tools like taskset or schedtool.

It seems that poppler 0.5.x can open that file just fine. But we
rescheduled this upgrade to post-etch, because of ABI changes without
soname, so this bug will be fixed for lenny.

Bug#411430: News

2007-03-08 Thread Eugen Dedu

Hi,
If yes, can you run
'vlc -vvv --color --no-plugins-cache --list |grep ffmpeg'

Does it show half a dozen ffmpeg module ? Or do you have some yellow
errors at the top about "cannot load module . libffmpeg_plugin.so
"

You're right :) :

[0001] main private warning: cannot load module
`/usr/lib/vlc/codec/libffmpeg_plugin.so' (/usr/lib/libpostproc.so.0d:
undefined symbol: postProcess_altivec)
[0001] main private warning: cannot load module
`/usr/lib/vlc/stream_out/libstream_out_switcher_plugin.so'
(/usr/lib/libpostproc.so.0d: undefined symbol: postProcess_altivec)

Is there a workaround for this bug? On my ppc, vlc does not play video
and I have also the two "cannot load module" lines.

Downgrading all ffmpeg packages to -4 shows indeed half a dozen lines
for ffmpeg, however vlc does not still show the video.

For info: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=412214 seems
to be the same bug.

Cheers,

Bug#322632: (no subject)

2007-03-08 Thread Jan Hülsbergen
Hi,

the behaviour described is still present in version 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6.

But after reading the CGI spec and searching the web, I don't think this
really *is* a bug. It differs from what apache does in such a situation
though, so I might be wrong but from what I've gathered, treating everything
up to the first occurrence of '?' as part of the script's path is OK.

Thanks for the patch, before I incorporate it I have a question;

There is already a target "TARGET_FREEBSD" is this significantly different
from "TARGET_GNUKFREEBSD"?

Should I have both targets or is one a replacement for the other?

Bug#413970: new fancy description for Emacs packages

2007-03-08 Thread Jason Spiro

Package: emacs-snapshot-gtk

I wrote a new description for emacs-snapshot and emacs-snapshot-gtk.
It tells more about Emacs so that more apt searches will find it. The
rest of this email is released to the public domain. What do you
think of these descriptions -- is it possible you could add them to
the debian/control file? Also, do you think it's worth it for me to
forward them to the Fedora people and/or freshmeat.net as an
additional way of evangelizing emacs?

Cheers,
Jason Spiro

Description: Integrated development environment chock full of features
.
This is a snapshot of the current development version of Emacs. It is
compiled with GTK+ 2.x support which provides nicer-looking graphical
menus and toolbars.
.
Emacs is not just a text editor. Emacs is an IDE. It provides:
.
* on-the-fly background syntax checking
* word completion
* indenting
* syntax coloring
* source browsing
* powerful debuggers for C, C++, and (if you install JDEE) Java
.
and much more. Other IDEs provide the same features, but only Emacs
has continually been improved since 1976. From transparent editing
and compilation of files on FTP/SSH servers to the electric mode that
inserts CR/LFs and indentation when you type a semicolon, Emacs does
everything better. Note: Emacs was designed for people who will use
it every day for years on end. It is time-consuming to learn to use
all its features. However, the time you spend learning Emacs will pay
itself back many times over the years.
.
Emacs is also a Lisp runtime environment.
.
It excels at working with text, and comes with dozens of full-fledged
Lisp applications which make heavy use of text. These include e-mail
and IRC clients, an RSS reader, and a Unix shell. Emacs can emulate
the Crisp, EDT, WordStar, and vi editors. It also includes a full
Personal Information Manager suite, a scientific calculator, Baha'i,
Chinese, Hebrew, and Islamic calendars, and much, much more. You can
also install all sorts of other add-ons for Emacs, from the w3m
graphical Web browser to the AUCTeX WYSIWYG editor for LaTeX.
.
For a live demonstration of Emacs, ask your local Linux User Group or
search the web for the words: emacs screencasts

Hi!

If you believe that it is a bug, is it possible that we can make you report it
in the kde bugzilla? Normally I would do it myself, but you seem a bit more
knowingful in this area than me, so you could provide better information to
the upstream developers.

Thanks in advance

According to this information, your NIC needs the sungem driver, which
_is_ included in the installer and should be loaded automatically.

After the installer has failed to detect your NIC, please try the
following:
- switch to VT2
- check if the sungem module is loaded ('lsmod | grep sungem')
- if it is, check dmesg for any messages about the NIC
- if it is not, try to load it manually ('modprobe sungem')

Bug#395355: Diff applies cleanly on etch

2007-03-08 Thread Vladislav Kurz
Hello again,

I have applied the patch on spampd 2.30-16, and it runs for two weeks on
production server (200 msg per day), without problems. There might be problem
on systems which needed the 55-workaround-for-syslog-regression.dpatch,
because my patch also does some logging, and does not use the workaround.
Anyway I tried it for a short time with debugging on, and it worked fine.

I think my patch is ready for sending upstream, and if you add the syslog
workaround (if it is still needed at all) then it may be ready for release.

Bug#413974: gstreamer-properties needs libesd-alsa0

2007-03-08 Thread Robert Millan [ackstorm]
Package: gnome-media
Severity: important

By upstream decision, it appears that the gnome media subsystem is now
unusable with OSS. When using OSS, esound blocks access to /dev/dsp and
all write attempts there result in EBUSY.

It seems they have provided no option in gstreamer-properties to pipe the
sound via esd, so the only option if you want mixing is to use ALSA.

Please, can you add a dependency [1] on libesd-alsa0 ? Users shouldn't get
all these problems unless they explicitly need OSS.

[1] but please make it conditionalised so that it'll only happen when
$(DEB_HOST_ARCH_OS) equals "linux".

After further investigation I now think that this is a bug and have reported
it upstream [1]. I used the description from the initial poster here because
I did not feel I could match it with my own english, I hope that was OK.

Bug#413976: Menu icon is different from

2007-03-08 Thread Bastian Venthur
Package: icedove
Version: 1.5.0.10.dfsg1-1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi,

the new blue icedove icon looks very good and is a real improvement
above the old green version. But it seems that you have forgotten to
replace the menu-icon too. The menu entry for icedove still has the old
version.

Cheers,

Bastian

Bug#413926: Extra FUD cleanup

2007-03-08 Thread Kai Hendry
Hi Thijs,

Wordpress does publish md5sums:
http://wordpress.org/download/release-archive/

Btw 2.1.x is an unstable branch. The Wordpress stable branch 2.0.x is
for etch, hopefully. So I like to think 2.0.x of being on topic, not so
much 2.1.x.

Though lets address your concerns for 2.1.x. Upstream took the "just
upgrade" path with 2.1.2 as it is dealing largely with a non-technical
audience.

Quoting Mark Jaquith: """ But ultimately, even without another security
vulnerability necessitating a new release, it probably still would have
been a good idea. We're dealing with a mostly non-technical audience
here, and bumping the version number is a sure way for people to know if
they are vulnerable or not with 100% certainty and no technical
skill."""

If you're really interested in the exploit view the Debian Wordpress
changelog for the ticket number.

I would like to add that many of these security issues are quite minor
and exaggerated. Any questions? Please get in touch with me.

Best wishes from Cornwall,

I've attached the Ubuntu patch for the same issue; it's been deployed
for some time and I think it's largely a cleaner approach than fixing it
up post-facto as your patch does. However, I tend to agree with Steve
that doing that at the last minute is risky; we had a fair few little
bits and pieces around the distribution to fix up, IIRC.

Bug#389881: RC-ness of this bug

2007-03-08 Thread Colin Watson
Oh, at least one additional thing that's likely needed in this scenario
is the attached patch to make busybox's mkswap generate UUIDs.

  * util-linux/mkswap.c: Set UUIDs on version 1 swap areas.
  * util-linux/Makefile.in: mkswap needs uuid/uuid.h from e2fsprogs.
  * e2fsprogs/Makefile.in: Build libuuid if building mkswap.

Ubuntu's volumeid.postinst also has some nasty code to add a UUID to
swap partitions that don't have one (due to busybox's mkswap not doing
this in the past). This was necessary because we were expecting to have
to change a lot of hard disk device names due to recent libata changes
in the kernel and forcibly moving over to UUIDs in /etc/fstab in advance
was the only way we could think of to prevent wholesale breakage.

UUIDs certainly have their disadvantages (verbosity being the main one),
but they're a hell of a lot better than labels for automatic use like
this. UUIDs are suitable for automatic generation while labels should
only be set by the sysadmin. The fiasco with Red Hat's installer setting
labels which can then end up conflicting with itself if you do multiple
parallel installs should demonstrate this (and some of the people
involved in Anaconda development said to me in person that in hindsight
this was probably a mistake). We've already backed away from automatic
use of labels once (http://bugs.debian.org/310754) so let's not have to
do so again!

Bug#413977: xgdvi does not coexist with texlive, it demands tetex

2007-03-08 Thread Helge Hafting
Package: xgdvi
Version: 1.2.4-6
Severity: normal

I tried to install xgdvi. It insists on pulling in tetex packages, which
conflict with texlive that I use.

I may be wrong, but I think viewer apps are able to view dvi files no
matter what kind of latex were involved in creating the dvi.

Please consider having xgdvi depending on either tetex or texlive,
instead of demanding tetex. If it really can't work with texlive, just
close this bug.

Hmmm, at the moment, much of the code is placed in "Linux | FreeBSD |
NetBSD | ..." #if's, so we could eventually merge them together. But
GNU/kFreeBSD shouldn't (I mean: on the long term) be merged with FreeBSD
since it is quite different, since it is the GNU userspace (e.g. glibc)
on a FreeBSD kernel, so we might want to be able to fetch some includes
from GNU and some includes from the FreeBSD kernel.

Thanks.
I build a powerpc package on my etch from your source.

Still get the same problem :
connect a usb disk, OK, /media/sda1 --> remove the disk, no /media/sda1
--> re-connect a usb disk, no /media/sda1

To get ivman working again, two options:
 * connect a usb disk --> umount the disk --> remove the disk
 * connect a usb disk --> remove the disk --> re-connect a usb disk -->
restart ivman

So ivman can't do "auto-umount".
If you think this is normal, you can close this bug.

Thanks and best regards,

Bug#406335: Taking over ITP for Secondlife client

2007-03-08 Thread Paul TBBle Hampson
submitter 406335 !
Thankyou

I have received the OK from my employers, with the usual "this is
not an endorsement" and "not to interfere with work", so I'm taking
over this ITP.

I got a version built in late January, so I'll update and package
that one properly. Hopefully some preliminary packages will appear
in a fortnight or so.

I'll be actively seeking a sponsor once I have preliminary packages
done, but if there's a DD floating around interesting in sponsoring,
feel free to let me know beforehand. ^_^

I'll also be ITPing openjpeg, xmlrpc-epi and elfio, which are the
dependancies not yet in Debian but which have compatible licenses.

Bug#389881: RC-ness of this bug

2007-03-08 Thread David Härdeman
I took the liberty of trimming the CC list since the details of a
persistent device node script would probably not interest everyone...

I considered doing the changes directly rather than as a post fixup, but I
opted not to for a couple of reasons:

You explicitly have to exclude some volumes, with my patch that decision
(i.e. which devices it is sane to have persistent device names for) is
left to udev.

It becomes much easier to switch between different kinds of persistent
device names with the standalone script. With the post-fix script, it
would be simple to support an argument such as "by-id" or "by-uuid" which
changed the type of symlinks that were used (then we could have that in a
priority "low" question so that the propellerheads can change it
themselves, experience so far seems to indicate that some people will
never be happy with the choice of persistent device names whether they are
based on label, uuid, id, path, etc).

At some point the future we're going to have to help users convert their
fstabs to persistent device names to avoid breakage (which I think is the
only argument that supported implementing persistent device names before
the release of Etch, although I think we'll have to live without it). One
such example will be the libata introduction (whether that will be during
the Etch -> Lenny upgrade or at some different point in time). If we have
one such standalone script, and use it both in the installer and in
upgrading older systems, it will receive much more testing.

Using "vol_id" directly rather than reading the symlinks, which would be
required if this is implemented in fstab_hd_entries, also has the
disadvantage that we'd need to duplicate the string conversions that udev
performs on the output from vol_id before it creates the device nodes.

And on a related note, one disadvantage of using "UUID=something" or
"LABEL=something" instead of /dev/disk/by-something/something is that the
former requires every script that will ever parse fstab to add code to
parse and handle "X=Y" (it would break cryptsetup and possibly other
boot-related scripts right now).

"X=Y" also makes it impossible to add new schemes without having to change
all related scripts to support the new values of "X" (we already have
by-path and by-id) while doing so is easy with the symlinks.

Phew, this came out a bit longer than expected :)

I agree with Steve as well

I agree. We had similar pains with the default naming of volume groups for
lvm installations, people will do multiple installs and the labels *will*
collide.

(And I find by-id even better than by-uuid since by-uuid still might break
due to careless admins doing whole-partition backups using dd.)

Such a machine looks a bit strange (6 CPUs vs 256 MB RAM). I think that
usually, modern SMPs have "enough" memory to handle what all their CPUs
can do. And the "common interface" could still be used to set a sensible,
conservative default.

Also, you say "Building gcj-* with -j6 is not possible". Do you mean
that the build would fail, or just that it would take a lot of time and
cause a lot of swapping ?

Bug#413983: karm loses data when using non-default iCalendar file

2007-03-08 Thread Jesús M . Navarro
Package: karm
Version: 4:3.5.5.dfsg.1-6
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

I use karm both at office and at home to account my time. To that effect I
copy my office's ~/.kde/share/apps/karm/karm.ics to
my home's ~/work/karm_office.ics and then launch `/usr/bin/karm
~/work/karm_office.ics`. Sometimes it will work OK and
sometimes it will overwrite ~/work/karm_office.ics with local
~/.kde/share/apps/karm/karm.ics thus losing data. It's even
worse if I try something like `/usr/bin/karm fish:[EMAIL
PROTECTED]/.kde/share/apps/karm/karm.ics` (I don't remember if that's
exactly the fish sintax, but you take the idea) since it will overwrite my
office's file without question and without chance to
recovery. Just as an example, today I lost one week's worth of data due to
this.

Bug#413984: Strange interpretation of manpages

2007-03-08 Thread Thorsten Schmidt
package: konqueror
version: 3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6

Hello,

for some way, konqueror (from etch) shows manpages differently than man.
eg.
man ssh says
»[..]
-b bind_address
[..]
 -c cipher_spec
[..]
-p port
 [..] « (that's correct - of course)

but #ssh (man:/ssh) in konqueror describes these parameters in a strange
(rather incorrect) way

»-b -file ... -bind_address
Use bind_address on the local machine as the source address of the
connection. Only useful on systems with more than one address.
[..]
-c -file ... -cipher_spec
[..]

-p -file ... -port
Port to connect to on the remote host. This can be specified on a per-host
basis in the configuration file.«

Obviously, »-file ..« is inserted additionaly.

Regards
Thorsten

To full support it, another change would be need on Parted IIRC. You
reported the patch for it but I hadn't applied yet since we weren't
using it that time.

Bug#413753: spampd: auto-whitelist broken due to wrong file permissions

There isn't anything I see I could do about this. But you can:
Add "auto_whitelist_file_mode 0666" to your SpamAssassin configuration
(see "perldoc Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::AWL" for details).

This solution isn't very safe, but I recommend using MySQL or PostgreSQL
for storing AWL and Bayes data anyway (see
/usr/share/doc/spamassassin/sql for details).

I'm adding an appropriate hint to README.Debian in future releases.

Regards,
Sven

PS: Closing the bug as there isn't anything I could do in spampd
automatically but the problem doesn't surface with the proper configuration.

Bug#413640: xserver-xorg-video-v4l: xserver crashes when v4l module is loaded

2007-03-08 Thread Frédéric Giquel
I've found the reason of the crash. It's not related to nv or nvidia
driver but the AMD64 architecture.

The explanation :
- line 648 of v4l.c : ioctl(V4L_FD,VIDIOCGFREQ,value);
- line 612 of v4l.c : we know that value is INT32 *
- in videodev.h of kernel headers (from debian package
linux-kernel-headers 2.6.18-7) :
#define VIDIOCGFREQ  _IOR('v',14, unsigned long)

With 32 bits architecture, long is 32 bits and there's no problem.
With 64 bits architecture like AMD64, long is 64 bits and ioctl try to
write to the double-word *value and an unauthorized double-word near
*value. So xorg crashes.

To temporally fix the bug, I replace the line 648 of v4l.c with the next
3 lines :
unsigned long freq;
ioctl(V4L_FD,VIDIOCGFREQ,&freq);
*value = (INT32) freq;

There is no crash anymore with xvinfo. We lose some information (64 bits
-> 32 bits) but it seems unimportant (the frequency value is between 0
and 16000 according to line 190 of v4l.c).
Perhaps, a best solution can be found...

Fred

PS : we certainly have the same problem with VIDIOCSFREQ to set the
frequency (line 597 of v4l.c) but I didn't try anything.

No, but one thing I had to do after downloading the handler was replace
@AWK@ and @SED@ with /usr/bin/awk and /bin/sed, respectively.

Oddly enough, the ldap handler did not return an error before I edited
it-- the log said "Info: finished action /etc/backup.d/30ghz.ldap:
SUCCESS".

I was a bit puzzled first when I read your bug report. On first sight it
seemed logically correct and I wondered why it worked for me without.

The reason, why it does, is that the CPUFreq Methods are mirrored in the
SystemPowerManagement Interface and for that you have the correct access
rights already.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#397263: I think dpkg is guilty

2007-03-08 Thread Jukka Neppius

A few months ago kde-essential.menu disappeared from my laptop.
kcontrol didn't not work. Updating several times and
dpkg -i kdebase-data_3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6_all.deb did not bring it back.

dpkg --force-confmiss -i kdebase-data_3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6_all.deb

did solve the problem:

: Configuration file
: `/etc/xdg/menus/applications-merged/kde-essential.menu', does not
: exist on system.
: Installing new config file as you request.

Reasonable behaviour would be to ask user what to do, if old config
file is user edited. dpkg notices that it is user edited (useredited
== 1). Since user seems to have deleted it old file, it deletes new
file without any questions. Why?

configure.c at line 198
 } else if (!strcmp(currenthash,NONEXISTENTFLAG) && fc_conff_miss) {

fc_conff_miss has value 0, so new config file is thrown away without
any questions. Why is missing conf file handled separately from user
edited conf file? Restoring deletet file is less dangerous than over
writing user edited config file. Re-deleting a file is easier than
re-editing it!

I don't know why kde-essential.menu disappeared. Perhaps disk full
condition when updating. Getting it back was too difficult!

I booted pfsense (Firewall derivated from FreeBSD) and tried to watch
the boot process via serial console. pfsense wants me to set the serial
port to 9600 8N1, but I firstly forgot this and kept the old setting,
which was 38400 8N1. I think the resultant garbage on the terminal
raised the foregoing error. I also did some further investigation and
tried this on x86 and x86-64, but the error appears on both computers.

I also found the following typing error:
When I leave minicom with strg a + x it says "Modem zurüksetzen" but
here a 'c' is missing, as it has to be labeled to "Modem zurücksetzen".

Bug#413687: guml: Doesn't startup with no config directory

2007-03-08 Thread Matthew Johnson

It goes slightly deeper than that. Creating the config directory causes
guml to start, but not in a usable fashion. You get an empty list of VMs
and no graphical method to create any.

The README supplied by upstream says that you must create the directory
and add config files based on example templates by hand before guml is
usable.

Is upstream likely to add support for adding VMs in guml?

It should not crash without an existing config directory however merely
creating it isn't a solution. Possibly if ~/.guml doesn't exist or is
empty it should print a message directing users to the README for how to
set it up?

Do you have a link? The fstab things should take place well after the
partitioning stage so I don't understand how parted would be affected?

Bug#413524: [Buildd-tools-devel] Bug#413524: sbuild: please document how to run build as non-root

2007-03-08 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Hi Roger,

Thanks for pointing me to /usr/share/sbuild/buildd.chroot. I didn't run
that script, so that's the reason for my problems :-)

It might be better to update the documentation by including all the
steps, instead of refering to external scripts, especially since some of
those external scripts don't work with "file" schroots.

I might try to submit a patch for that, but don't count on it too much
;)
