Bug#411996: CVE-2007-1030: new upstream version fixes remote DoS

2007-02-22 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Package: libevent
Severity: important
Tags: security

CVE-2007-1030:
Niels Provos libevent 1.2 and 1.2a allows remote attackers to cause a
denial of service (infinite loop) via a DNS response containing a
label pointer that references its own offset.

This is fixed in 1.3 (but 1.3a is out as well).

Please mention the CVE id in the changelog.

Bug#412006: dvidvi: Please Replace texlive-extra-utils (<< 2005.dfsg.2-12)

2007-02-22 Thread Kevin B. McCarty
Package: dvidvi
Version: 1.0-8etch1
Severity: important

Hello,

On upgrading texlive in Sid, which no longer provides a dvidvi binary
and now Recommends the dvidvi package instead, I got the following:

Selecting previously deselected package dvidvi.
Unpacking dvidvi (from .../dvidvi_1.0-8etch1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/dvidvi_1.0-8etch1_i386.deb
(--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/dvidvi', which is also in package
texlive-extra-utils

This happens because at the time dvidvi was unpacked, the older version
of texlive-extra-utils was still installed. This is the companion bug
to #411537.

The issue could be worked around if dvidvi had a line like
Replaces: texlive-extra-utils (<< 2005.dfsg.2-12)
in its control file.

If this fix could be targeted for etch-proposed-updates (e.g. version
number 1.0-8etch2) and if that version of dvidvi, and version
2005.dfsg.2-12 of texlive-bin, make it into Etch, then it will be
possible to upgrade texlive-extra-utils from earlier versions of Sid
or Etch with no troubles.

(Severity "important" rather than RC, since this issue won't affect
people upgrading to Etch or Sid from Sarge where there are no texlive
packages. X-Debbug-CC'ed to release and tex-maint teams.)

Bug#412004: defaults file contains nonsensical values

2007-02-22 Thread Chris Jones
Package: varnish
Version: 1.0.2-3

The /etc/defaults/varnish file sets VARNISH_MAX_WORKER_THREADS to the
string "INF".

That, in turn becomes an argument to varnishd in the form -w 1,INF,10

That string is then processed by varnishd using the strtoul() and since
the letters "INF" don't really qualify as an unsigned long, something
else is sent which causes varnish performance to be next to useless.
Changing this to a number produces an expected performance level (~6000
requests/sec with zero errors, vs almost 100% errors with the default
value).

Cheers,

Yes, I know. This is a stupid bug that occured during upstream release.
I'm already preparing a new upstream version which will result in a new
Debian package as well.

Hi,

I think I figured it out, tracker-thumbnailer requires a full path to
the file.

For example, "tracker-thumbnailer test.jpg image/jpeg normal" gives a
segfault, and "tracker-thumbnailer /tmp/test.jpg image/jpeg normal"
works correctly.

Is it still necessary to check what g_filename_to_uri returns?

Could you please compile tracker with debug symbols enabled [1]
(--enable-debug) and check with gdb, what g_filename_to_uri, line 110,
returns. Most likely NULL, because that is passed to md5_init (init
120). We have to investigate, why g_filename_to_uri does not return a
proper URI.

Well, first, this is not an application launcher, but some sort of
session/workspace management record kept by Emacs. Second, I don't see
the point of changing its name to "No Name" on the file browser, since
it's wrong (the file does have a name), misleading (no way to know what
file it actually refers to) and confusing (what if there are several
files that fall under this category?), to say the least.

Could you please explain your reasons for calling this a feature? I
would almost understand hiding the file entry altogether (although I'd
disagree with calling that a feature, as well), but the current behavior
seems plainly wrong.

Thanks,

Bug#411995: dspam: LocalMX attribute doesnt work with non global shared group

2007-02-22 Thread Etienne PENICAUD

Package: dspam
Version: 3.6.8-5
Severity: important

Hello,

My dspam is configured with shared groups, one global and other are normal.
When i send a message for a global group user, LocalMX is used.
But when i send a mail for a normal group user, dspam don't care about
this attribute.

I've my dspam check behind an antivirus mail relay , so all my local
mail relay tokens have a high spam probability.

- when i try with only one normal shared group in the config file, the
problem is same.

Hungarian words contain letters o and u with hats instead of o and u

Bug#411999: dcraw: Option to add exif info to thumbnail.

2007-02-22 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: dcraw
Version: 8.39-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

My Canon EOS 400D seems to be having the full jpeg as one of the
thumbnails in the .cr2 file. The .cr2 file also contains exif
information. It would be nice if I extracted the thumbnail that
the exif information was added to it.

Would it be possible to have an option to add the exif information to
the extracted thumbnail? This would save me from having to store both
the raw and jpeg on the flash, since raw contains both.

An other option would be to just extract the exif information and store
it in a file for later reuse, like in case of pnmtojpeg's --exif option.

Kurt

Bug#404977: hpodder update hangs

2007-02-22 Thread John M Flinchbaugh
I've been seeing this same problem for a while with 0.99.1 in unstable.

Ctrl-C leaves an hpodder process in the background that has to be killed
off additionally. It's as if it loses track of its threads.

I'm currently experimenting with "unthreading" the execution manually:
% hpodder lscasts | sort -n | cut -f1 -d' ' | grep -v ID \
| xargs -i hpodder fetch {}

I'll let you know if this helps to alleviate the problem.

I'm afraid it took a long time before this was considered. Can you

Bug#411946: libsvm-dev: sensible location for svm.h... no need in /usr/include/libsvm-2.0/libsvm

2007-02-22 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko
ok - and thanks for detailed explanation of the reason behind. If you
are to permit various incompatible versions of svm.h installed then, I
guess, libsvm-dev needs to become libsvm-dev and
libsvm-dev should be simply a dependency package on the most recent
libsvm-dev.

Bug#411987: Activation FastCGI support won't configure use_fast_cgi in wwsympa.conf

2007-02-22 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: sympa
Version: 5.2.3-1.2
Severity: normal

I'm not sure if this is important...

I've run into the situation where I had 'use_fast_cgi' set to 0 in
/etc/sympa/wwsympa.conf and wwsympa.fcgi wouldn't work (running as a
simple CGI instead of using all FastCGI API's resources, which is no
good).

For the records, I though that mod_fastcgi wasn't working since I
had wwsympa.fcgi's output in error.log... see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=411928 for some
details... and my misunderstanding of what FastCGI was about ;)

But it was just that use_fast_cgi should have been set to 1 when fastcgi
tried to execute wwsympa.fcgi...

I'm not sure how the variable was set to 0, though.

I'm not completely sure that this situation is linked to this... but
still I think that debconf's FastCGI activation should result in setting
use_fast_cgi accordingly in /etc/sympa/wwsympa.conf ...

Hope this helps

Best regards,

Bug#411982: php5 makes a segmentation fault when php5-curl and php5-pgsql installed

2007-02-22 Thread Pirity Tamas Gabor
Package: php5
Severity: normal

Hi,

1st very sorry for my poor english, maybe you will understand me.

I use php5 for administering data in a postgres database. When php5-curl
package installed and i use tcp port to connect to the db server, then at the
and of running script php dumps core with ,,segmentation fault'' message.
This is an example, with a very-very short script:

pc22:/home/ptg/php# cat db.php
#!/usr/bin/php5

pc22:/home/ptg/php# php db.php
Connected... Disconnected.
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
pc22:/home/ptg/php#

Funny, but if i uninstall php5-curl(!!) package (some ,,strace time'' helped
me), everything works fine:

pc22:/home/ptg/php# dpkg --purge php5-curl

(Reading database ... 151030 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing php5-curl ...
Purging configuration files for php5-curl ...
pc22:/home/ptg/php# php db.php
Connected... Disconnected.
pc22:/home/ptg/php#

I can't understand what the problem is, just i like to use php5-curl
_and_ php5-pgsql package.

I don't understand what the problem is getting the new version into
testing thru unstable. octave2.9 2.9.9-8 is already approved by the
release team to go to testing, but it being blocked by the RC bug
(#411863). There is no reason to believe that this bug doesn't affect
testing, so you should probably mark it as such.

If you get a new version of octave2.9 in testing, octave2.9-forge in
testing will have a problem too (#410463). I suggest you just fix
things in unstable and ask the release team to approve the changes.

Kurt

2007-02-22 Thread Sjoerd Simons
Package: libnss-mdns
Version: 0.9-0.1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Hi,

When /usr is not mounted and libnss-mdns is installed hostname lookups will
fail because lib_mdns* is in /usr/lib instead of /lib.

Apart from the more obvious things like nfs-mounting /usr, something like
postfix can also fail as it just copies the nss modules from /lib into it's
chroot.. Causing a broken setup for resolving, which in turn can cause mail
  bounces..

Bug#411977: wmaker: exitscript is not called when an signal 11 occur

2007-02-22 Thread Herbert P Fortes Neto
Package: wmaker
Version: 0.92.0-6.1
Severity: normal

 Hi,

Wmaker was crashing due a signal 11 caused by changes
i had made in src/switchmenu.c. This made me note one
thing.

The wmaker has two scripts (autostart and exitscript),
located in '~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker/' to launch
and finish programs. When an 'signal 11' occur, the
wmaker is restarted and everything goes fine. But the
exitscript is not called and a program called desklaunch
that was started before called by autostart script, now
has two running processes.(understood?)

To solve this situation i added these lines in src/monitor.c
(patch attached).

I have remembered the correct fix for this bug. I assume your default
shell is bash, otherwise you will have to adapt this appropriately.
In your ~/.bashrc, you write:

if [ ! -z "$PS1" ]; then
  function grep(){ command grep --color=always "$@"; }
fi

(In your ~/.bash_profile, you do not need to protect this function
command with the $PS1 check, as it's a login shell.)

Alternatively, put all such function (re)definitions in a separate
file which you unconditionally source from .bash_profile, but surround
by the $PS1 check in .bashrc (which is how I do it). And then don't
set GREP_OPTIONS at all.

HTH,

   Julian

I don't think that this is a special case. If you think of revelation as
a personal password manager then yes it is nothing you would do on a
daily basis.

If you think of a group of operators working on a set of machines this
might be interesting. I can also think of non IT situations where people
might want to share account data (happens more often than one might think).

Not Sure how to implement this though (database backend, export filter,
...) but this might be something that could make revelation valuable for
another usergroup.

I'm sure that it compiled Ok "a few months ago" with emacs-snapshot.
Sorry, I don't know exactly when it broke I hadn't tried to build for
a while. I will look at snapshot.debian.net and see if I can wind
back emacs-snapshot to find the place it broke if that would be
helpful.

Bug#411972: arbortext-catalog: please finish the /usr/doc transition

2007-02-22 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Package: arbortext-catalog
Version: 1.01-3.2

Hi,

arbortext-catalog still creates a /usr/doc symlink. Since 2002, policy
has not required these symlinks, and we're waiting for all packages
to be updated to remove them before the /usr/share/doc transition can
be complete. This package is one of the very few packages that still
makes the symlink.

If your package uses debhelper, you should be able to fix this bug by
simply rebuilding the package. If it does not, you should remove the
symlink management code from your maintainer scripts. If the symlink
creation code was implemented properly before, your package should
remove the old symlinks in its postrm when upgraded. If you don't use
debhelper (or even if you do), please check that the symlink is gone
after upgrade.

Please see bug #322762 for some more details.

Since your last maintainer upload was in Feb 2004 and your MIA status,
I'm going to NMU this package right away to get this simple transition
done.

thanks
Thijs

Bug#411946: libsvm-dev: sensible location for svm.h... no need in /usr/include/libsvm-2.0/libsvm

2007-02-22 Thread Rudi Cilibrasi

Thanks for your feedback. I had already considered this issue myself
and I disagree with the initial assumption of a future incompatible
header file. I think it is likely because there are some interface
problems in the current libsvm software. For example from the libsvm
FAQ:
--
Q: I would like to use my own kernel but find out that there are two
subroutines for kernel evaluations: k_function() and
kernel_function(). Which one should I modify ?

The reason why we have two functions is as follows: For the RBF kernel
exp(-g |xi - xj|^2), if we calculate xi - xj first and then the norm
square, there are 3n operations. Thus we consider exp(-g (|xi|^2 -
2dot(xi,xj) +|xj|^2)) and by calculating all |xi|^2 in the beginning,
the number of operations is reduced to 2n. This is for the training.
For prediction we cannot do this so a regular subroutine using that 3n
operations is needed. The easiest way to have your own kernel is to
put the same code in these two subroutines by replacing any kernel.
--
Since custom kernels are an important part of the current leading edge
in SVM research, I think there will need to be an improved custom
kernel interface involving function pointers. The issue above might
be handled with a simple enhancement, but there are other problems
also with the current interface functionality. Therefore I expect a
new incomptabile version 3 to come out soon.

I still appreciate the problem of the added complexity that you mentioned.
For now, the easiest way to avoid changing the source code is to never
put the libsvm-2.0 in the .c or .h files (unless version 2 is actually
necessary), but only in Makefile's (use -I/usr/include/libsvm-2.0) or
use pkg-config. Then it is already included for your convenience and
represents something like a configuration system that will naturally
allow your code to recompile with version 3 without modifying .c or .h
files. If your Makefile uses pkg-config it is likely nothing would
need to be modified to use the next version if the interface is as
stable as you predict, so the current plan seems to capture the best
of both worlds.

I appreciate the feedback and look forward to more.

2007-02-22 Thread wookey
Package: mc
Version: 1:4.6.1-6
Severity: normal

If you use the filsystem-over-ssh 'fish' feature:
cd #sh:machine
then find a softlink to a text file (in this cae it was
/etc/exim4/email-addresses which is a link to ../email-addresses )

then hit F3 to view that file with the built-in viewer. It show the
first few characters of that file then just dots. I suspect it is
using the length of the link, rather than the linked-to file to read
the contents.

If you try to delete the file (which is actually a link), then the
link remains but points nowhere. It appears to have had the link
content deleted, not either the link itself or the targetted file
(either of which would make sense - no doubt posix has something to
say about which should happen).

Nice to see that sarge-support is still useful :-)
It's not really maintained anymore as we never got around to solving the
problem that you'd probably like to have a backported kernel installed,
rather than a standard Sarge kernel.

However, I've fixed the problem you reported and uploaded a new version.

After investigation, this might be a different issue.
Did the file compile before?

As indicated in the bug log, there's one more problem to solve. We're
not there yet, but the discussion among the upstream developers shows
progress. Essentially, a solution seems to be decided upon, but the
implementation is unclear.

I'd rather wait for them to decide on that, in order to not deviate from
upstream.

Hello and sorry for the delay (I only have one machine to test this and
that's usually doing something). I tested it again and this time the
game started, so this problem seems fixed.

I can confirm this, I have seen it on my powerbook about a half a
yaer ago, but I thought that the game was not finished and is the
normal thing since I never played a working version.

Also, if I am not confusing things (sorry if I do and disregard this
paragraph, if so), I thought it was the normal behaviour because at
some point it says something about a "trial version" or something
like that.

When using proprietary driver from nVidia deb package,
with Vanilla kernel(and most?) kernel version has lack.
So, recent version of 2.6 (after 2.6.19?), build was
failed.

It seems to debian/rules has these kernels misdetect

I made *pretty* patch,pls.apply.

In the above and in other messages I meant 2.9.9-6 (not 2.9.9-7) as the
version in testing. Sorry for the confusion.

In preparation for the 2.9.9-6etch1 release, I created a branch for
octave2.9/etch in the SVN repository. Caveat: this branch is not yet fully
tested.

That's a joke, a reference to non-free games who give you free 'trial'
versions, but require you to pay when you want the full version.

It *used* to work at some point.

Bug#411967: udev: Name conflicts in z20_persistent.rules

2007-02-22 Thread Roland Mas
Package: udev
Version: 0.105-1
Severity: normal

I have an USB card reader with four ports (for four different types of
memory cards). Plugging it in causes the creation of /dev/sda through
/dev/sdd. Inserting an SD card into the corresponding slot (the third one,
here)
causes /dev/sdc1 to appear. Inserting a Memory Stick into the
corresponding (fourth) slot triggers /dev/sdd1. Removing the cards does
remove the device nodes, no problem (the /dev/sd[abcd] files themselves
stay, though, but that's not a problem).

The problem lies within /dev/disk/by-id. Even though the card reader
has four slots, it only has one serial number, so only one link is
created in /dev/disk/by-id. It's called
usb-Generic_STORAGE_DEVICE_05170 and it points to one of
/dev/sd[abcd], not always the same one. I suppose there's a race
condition somewhere.

When a memory card is inserted, another link,
usb-Generic_STORAGE_DEVICE_05170-part1, is created, pointing to, say,
/dev/sdc1. Then, if another card is inserted while the first one is still
there,
the link is overwritten and points to /dev/sdd1. If the last inserted card is
taken out, that link is removed (although the other card may remain). If a card
other than the last inserted one is removed, the link stays.

The card reader is a Kingston FCR-HS215/1, if that matters.
Vendor/device ids: 11b0:6108.

Yes, these do work. You may want to change the version number, though,
because I got a message from dpkg that I was downgrading the package.

Hi!

I'd like to install mgp123 package out of the backports to my debian.
But it didn't work due to some unmet dependencies.
But it's probably easier to read yourself:

I've had someone test this and they can't reproduce the problem. Can you
try building a fresh chroot using debootstrap and testing it there? Can
you try doing a rebuild and seeing if you still get the problems?

Bug#411985: quanta: Obvious typo in standard template

2007-02-22 Thread Frits Daalmans
Package: quanta
Version: 4:3.5.5-1

Hi,
the following templates have a typo:

/usr/share/apps/quanta/templates/pages/xhtml/leftMen_BB.html
/usr/share/apps/quanta/templates/pages/xhtml/leftMen_Quanta.html
/usr/share/apps/quanta/templates/pages/xhtml/rightMen_BB.html

/usr/share/apps/quanta/templates/pages/xhtml/twoSideMen_BB.html
/usr/share/apps/quanta/templates/pages/xhtml/twoSideMen_Quanta.html

Community is misspelt as Comunity.

The only reason I'm even reporting this is, that it's really obvious,
and that it's the first thing you see on screen when using the
template.

2007-02-22 Thread Sven Coenye

Frans Pop wrote:

On Friday 16 February 2007 20:05, Sven Coenye wrote:

Comments/Problems:
First attempt to install resulted in an unbootable system where LVM
could not find the root LV. Second attempt went without problems.
Differences between the two attempts:

On the first attempt we used the guided LVM partitioning option. This
results in a home use system where the home partition uses most of the
space. After manually deleting and recreating all partitions we got an
error message indicating that the partition table could not be written.
On the second attempt we choose the manual partitioning option.

The problem writing the partition table likely explains the reboot
problem. I think I know what message you have seen. It is one that pops
up sometimes and which we've not yet been able to track down.

If you can provide some instructions with which this can be reliably
reproduced, that would be most welcome. Without such information it will
be very hard to fix the issue based on this report.

I tried reinstalling the server, but the installer picks up the remnants
of the partitioning scheme even after writing a blank partition table to
the disk. This leads the installer down a different path so I can't
reproduce this one.

There are a couple more identical servers still in the box that we will
be installing next week. I'll have to try it on one of those.

On the first attempt we had only selected "Database server" from the
task list. On the second attempt we had also left "Standard system"
selected.

That should not make any difference in the reboot problem, though having
the Standard system task installed is generally a good idea.

Cheers,
FJP

No, I can reproduce the bug now, which makes it easy to fix.
trackerd, which uses tracker-thumbnailer internally, always uses
complete paths, so this problem has not shown up before.
I haven't guessed that you were running tracker-thumbnailer manually.

Bug#401843: I know the cause, I don’t know the fix

2007-02-22 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi,

I got hit by the same problem. It seems that it was caused by a re-login
while gpg-daemon is running. Here is what happens:

Upon the first login, the gpg-agent is stated
by /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90gpg-agent with the correct XAUTHORITY env
variable. Everything works fine.

Upon the second login, the mentioned script detects that a gpg-agent is
already running and just sources the socket information etc. from
$GNUPGHOME/gpg-agent-info-$(hostname). The new XAUTHORITY file
information is not considered.

Then some program tries to use gpg-agent, which itself spawns pinentry
with the old XAUTHORITY information. That fails and gpg-agent gives up.

Possible solutions:
 1. Upon re-login, kill the old gpg-agent and start a new one
 2. Ignore the old and start a second new one
 3. Somehow pass the new display information (XAUTHORITY, DISPLAY) to
the running gpg-agent

The latter is the cleanest, but requires the most work and has to be
carefully thought over security wise.

Maybe someone knows a better fix.

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#411986: Please merge diff from 0.9-0.2 NMU

2007-02-22 Thread Loïc Minier
Package: nss-mdns
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I have uploaded a 0.9-0.2 NMU to switch the prefix to / and install the
libraries into /lib instead of /usr/lib. This is important both for
chrooted daemons such as Postfix which are copying /lib/libnss* to the
chroot and for mdns resolver support during the boot process (where
/usr isn't available) e.g. to mount /usr from a NFS share resolved over
 mdns.

I've uploaded the NMU to DELAYED/2: please ping me if you want me to
cancel this upload or simply upload a fixed package.

   Bye,

PS: not closing the RC bug and not waiting for the BTS acks / timeouts
due to bugs.d.o being down

for each slot, perhaps by mousing over or clicking-without-releasing,
would also be nice. Thanks for a fun game.

Bug#412011: Please add these French word lists

2007-02-22 Thread Amaya
Package: tuxtype
Version: 1.5.6.dfsg1-3
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Please add these word lists in French, that were provide by the French
Skolelinux/Debian-edu team during DevCamp in Soissons.

I think that just replacing the files should suffice.

Thanks!

Bug#412009: ITP: bitbake -- build system used for embedded Linux distributions

2007-02-22 Thread Jan Luebbe
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jan Luebbe <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: bitbake
  Version : 1.6.6
Upstream Author : the bitbake project
* URL : http://developer.berlios.de/projects/bitbake/
* License : GPL, MIT/X
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : build system used for embedded Linux distributions

BitBake is a simple tool for the execution of tasks. It is derived
from Portage, which is the package management system used by the Gentoo
 Linux distribution.

It is most commonly used to build packages, as it can easily use
its rudimentary inheritence to abstract common operations, such as
fetching sources, unpacking them, patching them, compiling them, and
so on. It is the basis of the OpenEmbedded project, which is being
used for OpenZaurus, Familiar and a number of other Linux distributions.

Bug#412010: qemu: missing pxe (netboot) bios

2007-02-22 Thread Jim Paris
Package: qemu
Version: 0.9.0-1
Severity: normal

It looks like the PXE netboot BIOS images were removed from the
upstream tarball, so netbooting with "boot -n" fails unless they're
manually obtained and copied into /usr/share/qemu:
  pxe-ne2k_pci.bin
  pxe-pcnet.bin
  pxe-rtl8139.bin
If there's some other package that provides these (I didn't see one)
then maybe a dependency is all that's required.

With this patch, everything looks OK, many thanks!

There was a line-clipping fix that went into 6.5.2:

That may be it. I've been unable to reproduce the Blender crash.

Bug#383868: Changes?

2007-02-22 Thread Ethan Glasser-Camp
Hi,

What's the status of this bug? The new ODE changes the CCylinder
symbols to Capsule in the .so, so python-soya has other problems with
ode. If OPCODE works on 64-bit architectures, is it possible that new
ode packages can include trimesh support?

Bug#406843: udev: Perms for scsi media changers set for group tape, too.

2007-02-22 Thread Steven Critchfield
I would like to agree that adding that one line is a good thing. I came
about the same conclusion while trying to sort through permisions to let
vmware have access to my tape library.
