Bug#398330: orphaner: crap indentation

2006-11-13 Thread Jonas Kölker
Package: deborphan
Version: 1.7.19
Severity: minor

The identation for orphaner is not good: it mixes spaces and tabs. Somtimes
it has a useless space (as in "\n \t${bashcode}"). Please come up with a
consistent indentation scheme and stick to it (or, if you already have,
explain it to people :P).

Hello,

I had trouble on halt/shutdown on my box for several days. I track it
done on splashy.

No enabling splashy with by ex. "ENABLE=0" in /etc/default/splashy is
fine.

When splashy is enable, the box won't shutdown anymore, it just stays
frozen in different state of graphic screen (got a blue screen
yesterday).

This freeze seems to happen earlier since my upgrade to the last debian
kernel.

I don't have any idea how to dig in this, but I'm willing to follow
instructions.

Hello Fabrice,

Hello Luis

What happens at boot? Splashy works fine?

Yep, I didn't get any pb at boot time (little pengin & progress bar
are show up ok)

What happens when you run Splashy by hand: /sbin/splashy test
(Press ESC to exit)

Will try tonight.

Are you using vesafb? cat /proc/fb; cat /proc/cmdline

I'm using nvidiafb :
$ cat /proc/cmdline
root=/dev/hda2 ro console=tty0
$ cat /proc/fb
0 NV18

I don't know what else could cause this.

Bad interraction between Xorg & splasy on video RAM ??

Extract from my xorg.conf :

BusID "PCI:1:5:0"
#Option "UseFBDev" "true"

EndSection

After yesterday night "sudo halt", I got stuck again.
The box was still responsive to ping.
nmap show up ssh + a bunch of rpc services (I'm using nfs on this
computer).
but ssh -v from another computer didn't get any answer.

 You are not running Splashy
from initramfs right? cat /etc/default/splashy | grep INITRAMFS

No.
$ cat /etc/default/splashy | grep RAMFS
ENABLE_INITRAMFS=0

If you are, please disable that as this is very experimental.

ENABLE_INITRAMFS=0 will disable it. Then you need to run:
update-initarmfs -u

Last, you can purge Splashy 0.1.8 and install the latest release,
Splashy 0.2.1. I uploaded packages to
http://splashy.alioth.debian.org/debian/incoming. I'm waiting for
Otavio to upload them to Sid (pending verification of course).

Will try tonight.

Ahh yes, I do recall that one.

I've just read through all the messages associated with the bug
and my position can be best described by the text at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=310982;msg=101

That is, the patch should make the kernel ignore CAP_UNIX if
options which make it dangerous in Sarge are specified from
user-space. At the time this seemed to Steve Langasek and myself
to be the best of a poor set of available solutions. And I think
that is still the case.

I have not verified that the patch is correct. Although I do remember
being quite confident about it at the time. If someone could test it,
that would be most excellent :)

Bug#396501: rkhunter: gathering arch data for etch

2006-11-13 Thread Matt Taggart
Hi,

First a comment...

It would be easier to gather the needed data for rkhunter if the hashupd.sh
script was instead a stand-alone tool that just generated the needed additions
to the database (and was smart enough to guess at the release string). Right
now you have to be root to both install and run the tool. If if could be done
as a mortal user, we could use the debian.org development chroots to
periodically generate the data. Heck it could be done with a cron job that
generated the data and if it differed send it to a human for review and
submittal to upstream.

I have root access to hppa and ia64 etch chroots. I put tarballs at,

http://people.debian.org/~taggart/tmp/rkhunter-debian-4.0-hppa-20061112.tar.gz
http://people.debian.org/~taggart/tmp/rkhunter-debian-4.0-ia64-20061112.tar.gz

Bug#398331: Integrate libnet-perl in perl-modules

Heya,

Here is the patch we talked about in IRC. This includes all patches
applied on libnet-perl that were not yet in perl-modules, a control file
conflict with the last libnet-perl version and a new
/etc/perl/libnet.cfg config file which uses /etc/libnet.cfg if it
exists and is used for configuration in the other cases.

Yes, this is what I'd like to see too (as per bug #393462). Since it
adds an extra header it doesn't break packages already using

I am sorry about that, I am not the author of this faq
and wasn't even aware of it. I'd try to suppress this silly advice.

For the record, I have simply suppressed the call to \remakesection.
The intention was to have H1 elements for chapters (in place of
the default H2). I see no reason for doing that.

Overall.

The whole upgrade process is SNAFU, it appears, and that is RC by all

Like I said in that mail - it should go into the suggested_corrections

If that mechanism was abandoned, then it should go into NEWS.Debian.

Thanks for looking at this.

I initially reported this issue to samba and then I provided a patch for

kernel providing smbfs need to be fixed, not only sarge-2.4.27.

Jurji,

Thanks! After installing rkhunter and running the hashupd.sh script, upstream
needs the following files,

 /var/lib/rkhunter/db/os.dat
 /var/lib/rkhunter/db/defaulthashes.dat
 /etc/debian_version

> Also, Matt Taggart, who brought this bug to my attention, mentioned

I'm let Julien confirm what he wants, but I suspect the answer will be "both".
If you look at os.dat and read the rkhunter script you can see how it
differentiates between distros and releases. But right now /etc/debian_version
is 4.0 in both etch and unstable, so it has no way to differentiate. Probably
what needs to happen to allow differentiation is we need base-files to freeze
and fork and the unstable version to switch back to "testing/unstable". I
don't know when this will happen, but probably pretty soon.

You can set AUTOSTART=false in /etc/default/mdadm or via debconf,
and no arrays will be started.

If you aren't happy with the current solution, please provide
patches for consideration.

I do like the idea of selecting which arrays to start when.
Ideally, for each array, you'd select whether to start it from
initramfs, from init.d at boot, from init.d at install time, or from
init.d run manually. You can distinguish between the latter three
using the runlevel and a custom variable passed from postinst.

In any case, I don't consider the bug you filed to be grave because
you forgot to zero the superblocks. However, I agree with you that
it would be nice to have more granular control. This won't happen in
time for etch though, nor do I know when I'll have time to implement
this. Thus, please help out if you want to see this feature.

hi there,

i try to build a cd which installs debian etch without input from the user. but
during the
installation process i have to interact at two points.

1. debian installer asks at which harddisk he should install debian etch. but i
have
only one harddisk at my server.

2. debian installer reminds me that two partitions do not have a filesystem /
mountpoint.
one of them should be later an drbd device and the other one should be
reserved.

for mor information i include the preseed.cfg and syslog from the installation
process.

Again, I don't see this as a grave bug but human error. I agree that
mdadm should do something against it, but it's not a grave problem
every time that it fails to prevent human error.

> and starting all arrays is a bad one. if i built my initrd

My goal with mdadm was to make it a smooth upgrade from 1.9.x.
I realise that it doesn't do everything it should, nor is it free of
hacks, but there was only so much I could do with it in time for
etch.

I am willing to consider alternatives once etch is out. However, an
interactive prompt during the startup sequence is not one of them.

Instead, as per #398310, I would like to make mdadm deal with
a matrix of devices and times when they should be assembled/stopped.

Bug#396853: lsb_release reports wrong Debian version

2006-11-13 Thread Matt Taggart
Regarding #396853,

While lsb_release reports the right level of LSB compliance it looks like

 lsb_release -r

(and -a which includes -r) incorrectly reports "3.1" for the Debian release
version.

I ran into another package where upstream is using /etc/debian_version to
differentiate Debian releases. I'm going to recommend that they switch to
lsb_release. One of the things I discovered about /etc/debian_version is that
currently it is "4.0" in both etch and sid. It needs to freeze and the sid
version be set back to "testing/unstable" like it normally is. Maybe the
lsb-release package could follow the same scheme?

Thanks,

Orphaner doesn't do indentation. It uses dialog.

The bug is really fixed in our (Debian games Team) SVN, but I have no
sponsor for the package. Still, I would like to make some small changes
before an upload.

Sorry for the lack of follow-up, I (currently) don't have internet
access @ home, so I am constrained by office schedule and public

Bug#398336: einstein: Use undo stack

2006-11-13 Thread Bas Wijnen
Package: einstein
Version: 2.0.dfsg.2-3
Severity: wishlist

Einstein is a very nice puzzle, but there's one thing that annoys me about it:
It's not possible to "try" something. With an undo stack, this would be
possible:

- Every move is allowed, no information is given about correctness of it.
- Every move can be undone, and whole situations can be marked so as to make
"undo until marked situation" possible as a simple operation.
- There is a "commit" button, which makes the changes permanent. If something
was wrong, this is the moment you lose. The undo stack is cleared at commit
(since no undo is needed: it is given to be correct so far).

This would also solve the problem that misclicking makes you lose the game.

Thanks,
Bas

Bug#398270: iconv -f emacs-mule

2006-11-13 Thread Richard Stallman
It would be very helpful if one could do
$ iconv -f emacs-mule -t utf8 file
as one way or another, an emacs buffer sometimes gets saved in mule
encoding -- one cannot guarantee it will never happen, and the person
later who discovers the file has been saved that way might not have,
be able to use, or understand the documents of emacs.

This seems to be a suggestion for iconv, so please send it to the
iconv developers. (I don't know who they are.)

Bug#398338: Apply patch to provide a size argument to twisted.web2.stream readline method

Package: twisted
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Please, apply the patch provided in the upstream bug tracking system:

http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/1451

It provides a size argument to twisted.web2.stream readline method,
which is required by the current zope3 version. Without this patch,
zope3 fails to parse forms.

It should be definitely fixed before the etch release, as without this
patch zope3 in testing/unstable is not working.

try again with VERBOSE=false...

which causes the is_true() in info() to return 1 which causes the set -e
to terminate the script.

perhaps this bug report should be titled "set -e considered harmful" :)

set -e would be better if it actually caused sh to complain when the
error occured... instead it's the worst of both worlds: scripts exit
due to programming errors and then you have no idea they exited early.

i dunno, it's not really a human error to not know anything at all about
the superblocks.

with the default settings of INITRDSTART='all' it's impossible for a
person to stick some old PATA disks (which happen to be part of an old
array) into their box. because it requires a reboot and then initrd
will make an array and md might start trying to rebuild the disks. i
can't even stick them in to do --zero-superblock...

unless i change INITRDSTART setting and rebuild initrd.

is it really that hard to start only the root array? i suppose it is a
challenge on an upgrade... because you don't have the helpful sysfs
features that newer 2.6.x kernels provide for finding dependencies.
blah.

Bug#398339: exmh: not paying attention to unseen seq for current folder

2006-11-13 Thread Matt Taggart
Package: exmh
Version: 2.7.2-7

In my .procmailrc I use rules that send mail to things like

  |rcvstore +debian/kernel

and that puts the message in the folder updates the unseen sequence for that
folder. It used to be that exmh would notice this and the new messages would
show up in blue and the folder name would turn blue. That is still the case
for folders that are not currently selected, but it fails to see new mail in
the folder selected. I usually have inbox selected and the new mail doesn't
show up (pretty annoying). If I force a "rescan folder" then I see the
messages but they aren't marked new. If I use the nmh command "flist" it lists
new messages in the unseen seq as they come in, so I think this is an exmh bug
rather than nmh.

I have seen this bug on two separate machines with different $HOME directories
and mail configs. I didn't do anything other than upgrade exmh from unstable
to make it happen (didn't change preferences or anything else). I don't
remember when the bug first showed up, but it's been a while (6+ months?). I
can maybe try some older versions if you need additional data.

Let me know if you need any additional info or want me to test anything.

Thanks,

Comments/Problems:

My plan was to install the root-fs on a Radi6 device.. but as this
option was not available, I had to go for a Raid5 device.

The partitioning the drive mappings was strange.

When I finally reached the Boot-loader installation the Grub
installation failed.
I tried to install it manually. But as I have disks 6 discs connected
to boot the nv_sata (4disks) and the sata_sil (2 disks) and the order
of those contollers are not the same under Bios and linux.. it's a big
issue.
I just can't get it to install. Right now I'm running under chroot
/target.. :-(

Yes, that's the way to go. However, last time I checked, ionice only
worked on 3 architectures. Maybe the one in util-linux's latest upstream
version is better, and has to be backported.

I do not see the problem with dash or zsh, so I guess you must be
using bash then. I wonder whether it isn't bash's fault, but I do
agree that the info function should not return false when
VERBOSE=false.

Fixed merged into 2.5.6-5.

What is the root array? What if you have LVM on two arrays providing
the root filesystem? Trust me, it's not that easy, and I cannot make
any drastic changes anymore due to the freeze.

my SHELL=/bin/zsh, but that won't affect the script... the script is
#!/bin/sh ... and /bin/sh -> bash.

RFC854 was issued in 1983, and therefore AIUI predates the current RFC
copyright silliness. I don't think there's any reason to believe the IETF
has the rights to retroactively change the license on copies of this RFC
already in distribution.

If you believe there is still a bug here, please open a separate report so
that this (IMHO much lesser) issue can be tracked separately from the bug
with RFC2445 which has already been fixed.

There is the email from the RFC editor on
http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments where they claim statements
apply retroactively, although that doesn't specifically cover the
pre-1989 copyright situation.

I don't see any reason to re-open the bug at this point, but I'll ask
the RFC editor to clarify their view of the situation, and in particular
whether they consider the modern copyright rules apply to old RFCs as well.

Thanks,
Simon

You could also just reconfigure your debconf to show questions of
low priority; since you're juggling disks, it seems like that's the
more appropriate level.

I have raised the question for INITRDSTART to high priority.

Bug#351511: irssi-scripts: missing bitlbee plugins

2006-11-13 Thread Tijmen Ruizendaal

Hello,

Back in the old days, one of my Irssi-BitlBee scripts
(bitlbee-tab-completion.pl) was in the utils/ dir of the stable
releases on bitlbee.org. Then, when I made more scripts and more
frequently updates, Wilmer (the main developer of BitlBee), decided to
remove it from the utils dir. He added a link to my site in the
package, so people could download the scripts themselves. Therefore,
adding the scripts to the BitlBee package might be a wrong idea.

I still think Irssi should make their script repo more accessible.
Then I can add my scripts there. I hear more complains about the
script repo. looks like no-one is able to post updates or new scripts
to the list.

Btw, I added Wilmer to this bug.

Hi,

did anyone consider asking for those to be added to the bitlbee
package? There's no rule against multiple packages installing stuff
into /usr/share/irssi/scripts/. (Though admittedly that would require
installing bitlbee on the irssi machine if bitlbee does not run on
localhost.)

Bug#398344: icedove: manual page contains a bad link

2006-11-13 Thread Arnaud Guiton
Package: icedove
Version: 1.5.0.7-3
Severity: normal

Hi !

The last paragraph of the icedove manual page says :

--
General information about using Icedove can be found at the Icedove web site
(link to URL http://www.mozilla.com/icedove/) .
--

This is obviously a bad link, because icedove is not very likely to be
listed on Mozilla own web pages. This link indeed returns a 404 error.

Moreover, I'm not sure if the Mozilla foundation should still be listed
here, but as I've not followed all the ongoing discussions on this topic, I
can only raise the issue here.

Cheers,

kmplayer-common depends on libxine1 and libgstreamer0.10-0 because it contains
kxineplayer and kgstplayer. Anyway, you have the choice to use the engine you
want, just you use extra space (~7 Mo for libxine1 and ~3 Mo for
libgstreamer). That means, we must provide one package for each backend. I
don't think it's worth the effort, so i tag the bug as wontfix.

Nobody except Eduard Bloch and his "Friends" are sabotaging cdrtools.

At Debian, a working build system has been recently replaced by something that
does definitely not work (*), the code Mr. Bloch complains abut looks like a
useful hint to the users that something might be wrong.

*) Most of the (autoconf/configure) tests have been replaced by static defines
that may be valid on Mr. Bloch's home system but are wrong on the majority of
the systems out in the world.

Instead of using the broken Debian speudofork, you still have the choice to use
the working free original software: Just fetch the latest source from:

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/

compile and install (suid root as documented) and you have an installation
that lacks all Bugs listed on the Debian bugtracking system that are not a
result of Linux kernel bugs.

Note that the code, Mr. Bloch complains about has been negotiated with Debian
(in order to protect cdrtools users) in 2001 after a similar speudo fork
appeared (initiated by a former Redhat employee). The current speudo fork
found on Debian so far seems to replicate all problems seen in 2001:

1) The working official build sytstem has been replaced by a defective
one

2) The initator spend some months in trying to fix the self caused problems

3) The "project" became catatonic after ~ 6 months. No own intellectual
creation has ever been added to this project.

The Debian speudo fork is currently in stage 2) ...

  libxslt/xsltutils.h libexslt/common.c libexslt/dynamic.c
  libexslt/functions.c libexslt/strings.c:
Refactored xsltValueOf(). Changed to use xmlXPathCastToString()
directly, rather than creating an intermediate object with
xmlXPathConvertString(). This now does not add a text-node to
the result if the string is empty (this has impact on
serialization, since an empty text-node is serialized as
, and now it will be serialized as ).
  Refactored other functions in transform.c:
Mostly code cleanup/restructuring. Minimized number of
function variables for instruction which eat up function stack
memory when recursing templates (xsltIf(), xsltChoose(),
  xsltApplyTemplates(),  xsltCallTemplate()).
Changed XSLT tests to use xmlXPathCompiledEvalToBoolean().
Implemented redefinition checks at compilation-time and
eliminating them at transformation time in the refactored code
  paths.
Introduced the field @currentTemplateRule on xsltTransformContext to
reflect the "Current Template Rule" as defined by the spec.
NOTE that ctxt->currentTemplateRule and ctxt->templ is not the
same; the former is the "Current Template Rule" as defined by the
XSLT spec, the latter is simply the template struct being
  currently processed by Libxslt.
Added XML_COMMENT_NODE and XML_CDATA_SECTION_NODE to the macro
  IS_XSLT_REAL_NODE.
Misc code cleanup/restructuring and everything else I already forgot.
Refactored lifetime of temporary result tree fragments.
Substituted all calls to the now deprecated xsltRegisterTmpRVT()
  for the new xsltRegisterLocalRVT().
Fragments of xsl:variable and xsl:param are freed when the
  variable/pram is freed.
Fragments created when evaluating a "select" of xsl:varible and
xsl:param are also bound to the lifetime of the var/param.
EXSLT's func:function now uses the following functions to let take
care the transformation's garbage collector of returned tree
  fragments:
xsltExtensionInstructionResultRegister(),
xsltExtensionInstructionResultFinalize()
  Fixes:
#339222 - xsl:param at invalid position inside an xsl:template is

the 3ware superblock is at the end of the disk similar to mdadm... i
actually successfully pulled the disks from a 3ware raid10 and constructed
a md raid0 with two of the disks with mdadm --build (and recovered the
data which the 3ware had decided to lose)... and i didn't have to do
anything complex other than figure out which two disks to use.

i've done a similar experiment with a 3ware raid1 disk... i could mount it
just found on a non-3ware device.

Bug#398347: hooks should respect run-parts naming conventions

2006-11-13 Thread dean gaudet
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.85a

the run_scripts() function should respect the same naming conventions as
run-parts(8) ... in particular if my editor creates foo~, foo.bak,
.foo.swp files run_scripts() will try to run them. ditto for foo,v.

run_scripts() should also not attempt to invoke directories (i.e. RCS,
CVS).

in particular i've run into troubles in the
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks directory... while trying to fix bugs in
a hook i did "cp foo{,.orig}" so that i would be able to create a patch
for upstream and ran into troubles because the foo.orig was executed as
well.

i imagine there'll be .dpkg-old / .dpkg-dist /etc. troubles for hooks
which are conffiles (which i'd hope most hooks would be).

right, now i know that i should create an /etc/default/mdadm *before* i
install mdadm... because unlike other packages, mdadm does potentially
dangerous things just by installing it. i'll keep that in mind :)

it gets worse when you start considering external bitmaps... i posted to
linux-raid about the dependency problems here. you can't autostart an
array with external bitmap until the bitmap is available... and if the
bitmap is on a filesystem which is on another md device (think many disk
raid5 external bitmap on raid1 root disks) then you need some md devices
to start, some filesystems to be mounted, and then some more md devices to
start and more filesystems to be mounted.

i think the only solution is to go entirely event based... start meshing
into udev or something. you'd have to be able to express the dependencies
of a device/filesystem somehow though. ugh.

> In any case, I don't consider the bug you filed to be grave because
> you forgot to zero the superblocks.

actually, after playing with the disks with md, and then moving them into
3ware hardware raid, i did zero the disks... through the 3ware hw raid.
the problem is that the 3ware hw raid superblock is even larger than the
md raid superblock (100MB vs. a few MB in my limited experiments)... so
even though i zeroed the hw raid device it went nowhere near the stale md
superblock (even the 3ware hw raid superblock never touched it).

it took me a while to figure out that this was what happenned -- at first
i thought mdadm had somehow read 3ware superblocks... there had been talk
of an industry standard but i was skeptical it ever went anywhere.

How would this work if you have a system-wide filters

I guess the system-wide filters would get loaded if no user filters
exists... Would that be OK?

Hey, I want CACA in MPlayer, too!

To be precise, I 'd like to see _all_ possible features
(from a legal/patent-issue point of view) in Debian's MPlayer, including
CACA, MEncoder (see: #396954) and everything else.

Bug#398352: mailutils: Does not work as expected in combination with ssmtp

2006-11-13 Thread Christoph Pleger
Package: mailutils
Severity: normal

Hello,

I installed an etch-system and installed the packages ssmtp and
mailutils. After a few days, I realized that in contrast to the
mailutils package included in sarge the package in etch (version
1:1.0-1) ignores the line "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" in
/etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf.

This problem does not occur with package mailx, so the bug must be in
mailutils.

Regards
  Christoph Pleger

Bug#398353: linux-image-2.6.17-2-686: System freezes after boot sequence when trying to start gdm

2006-11-13 Thread Abel Martín

Package: linux-image-2.6.17-2-686
Version: 2.6.17-9
Severity: normal

Hi,

First, these are the lines in /boot/grub/menu.lst I used to boot the
system:

title Xen 3.0-unstable-1-i386 / Debian GNU/Linux, kernel
2.6.17-2-xen-686
root(hd0,4)
kernel /boot/xen-3.0-unstable-1-i386.gz
module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-2-xen-686 root=/dev/hda5 ro
console=tty0
module /boot/initrd.img-2.6.17-2-xen-686
savedefault

During the boot sequence everything seems normal, until the gdm init
scripts is executed. This freezes the system and it's not possible to
switch to a text console, since the keyboard doesn't work. The screen
becomes blank and no output is displayed.

I've tried to boot in single user mode, and when I manually start gdm
init script (after having started xend) the same happens.

I'm using xserver-xorg 7.1.0-5 and my card is VGA compatible
controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev
02), as shown by lspci. I'm using i810 X driver. Really don't know if
this might be an X bug, but it didn't happen with 2.6.16-2-xen-686 from
backports. Prior to the installation of linux-image-2.6.17-2-xen-686 I
purged old packages related to xen installed from backports.

Thanks.

Bug#397576: Another test run with a more recent install

2006-11-13 Thread Joel

I have installed from the weekly build 20061110 (i386).

Create /usr/local/bob in installer:
ls -l gives time as:
Nov13 20:43
(which was the correct local time).

[I chose UTC - NO]

Reboot and check bios time - bios time is set to local time.

Boot newly installed partition.
Time is Nov13 9:25pm

ls -l /usr/local/bob
2006-11-14 06:44 /usr/local/bob

Still the same problem - how did those files get a mod time in the
future when all the times I checked the current time was correct.

Joel

If I modify the pdfnup script to call pdflatex through valgrind, then there is
no segfault and the valgrind log shows no errors, but pdflatex now dies with

I can't reproduce the hang, though; on x86-64, I get this on bigreq.xml instead:

I bisected this down to the same commit.

Bug#398340: terminates already running xmms instance

2006-11-13 Thread James Stone
Yes.. I know that happens. It was an ugly hack but I cannot fully recall why it was there.. TP will also kill all running media player instances when it closes.. Would you prefer that this does not happen? Part of the trouble is that although xmms plays nicely with other instances, using an already running xmms to play a new stream, some other audio players (and no video players that I know of) do... so if I do not kill them, I get left with loads of ghost processes, or multiple players... If you can think of a way to get around this problem, it would be a great help.
I will have a go at fixing this in the next upstream release. Thanks for the reminder.James.On 11/13/06, Michael Ablassmeier <

Bug#398317: trac: upgrade to 0.8.1-3sarge6 causes internal errors

2006-11-13 Thread Andrew N Jackson

Hi,

I'm also seeing this bug. The function 'quote_cookie_value' is not
defined in the trac/util.py package, and indeed nowhere else in the
trac distribution. It can be found in older versions of trac:

--- trac/util.py --- http://trac.edgewall.org/browser/branches/0.8-
stable/trac/util.py

def quote_cookie_value(path):
"""
Cookie values can not contain " ,;" characters.
"""
return path.replace(' ', '%20').replace(';', '%3B').replace(',',
'%3C')

---

Hacking this back into /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/trac/util.py
provides a workaround, but this is presumable 'dangerous'. There
seems to be a major reshuffling of code between v0.8 and 0.9 of Trac,
and the Debian version appears to be a mix of the two.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Andy J.

Bullshit, frankly speaking. Why? Because this is not related to the what
I said. I talk about our fork and not your cdrtools. And sabotaging
means destruction from inside by insiders. How can we destruct another
project from inside?

In fact, you are sabotaging cdrkit. You make it non-free and maybe
undistributable in binary form. How? With your license modifications
that you do not want to explain but which do exist, written down THERE
by YOU, hidden INSIDE of the source.

> At Debian, a working build system has been recently replaced by something

> *) Most of the (autoconf/configure) tests have been replaced by static defines
> that may be valid on Mr. Bloch's home system but are wrong on the majority of
> the systems out in the world.

First, you claim things about superiority of your creations, but you
provide no proof here. And I honestly doubt that you test every release
on every plattform you are talking about.

Second, we don't claim that cdrkit is portable to 40 operating systems,
most of which already became extinct. The portability state is announced
as soon ad cdrkit is ported to an OS and really tested there.
Therefore, there is no reason to warn our users. Obviosly, one cannot
support every OS including Zuse machines. One has to make the decission
of where to cut the support, and we do that for cdrkit (and not you).

Third, we do not talk about cdrtools anymore. But about cdrkit. We warn
our users when we feel the need to do so. There should be no reason to
accept orders from a non-involved person.

Summary: there is obviosly no reason (reason as in: rational
justification) to keep the FUD message printing.

For you, it means that it's time clarify the license issues. Clarify, as
in: make the understanding clear and the issue transparent... not
provide more confusing or unrelated speeches.

Please answer, are the extra clauses void or not? (*)

If they are valid, why do you announce your licenses as beeing GPL (or
CDDL) and do not point to the restrictions at a prominent place, ie.
together with the main license texts?

Are you going to ignore these questions once again?

You are able to write good code but inept to give honest answers, that's
how we should interpret a refusal to answer?

You are going to cheat on our users and redistributors, that is how we
should interpret a refusal?

(*) If they are void, we automaticaly have the permission to modify or
remove them, as long as the obligations of GPL and local laws are met.

Huch, you can read the future? Obviosly not, let me point you to some
facts:

0) We are not Redhat. Or Arklinux. And our story line is already much
different:

1) A lot of extra code has already been added
2) Almost all known self-caused problems are fixed. Port to AIX is functional
(scsi transport not tested, though). Port to SunOS is prepared in a
subversion branch (scsi transport not tested, though). A
Cstyle-cleanup is also prepared (yes, meaning a cleanup and not
conversion to Cstyle as in your terms).
3) The development stalled a bit in the last weeks, but not
because of incompetence but because we are on a decission point:
either wait for your to make the license of the contaminated files free,
or drop all of them and move to libburn/cdrskin.

The last thing is not as impossible as you may want to believe: it does
support audio formats, TAO and multisession now... most of the things a
user needs.

Eduard.

Bug#398355: file: no mime type reported with -i option for MS Excel and MS PowerPoint documents

2006-11-13 Thread Hagen von Eitzen
Package: file
Version: 4.17-4
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

The file command recognizes MS Excel documents (tested with Excel 2000
SP 3 for Windows, German) as "Microsoft Office Document", but doesn't supply
a mime type when invoked with the -i option.
The same holds for Powerpoint documents.

Example:
# file test.doc test.mdb test.xls test.ppt
test.doc: Microsoft Office Document
test.mdb: Microsoft Access Database
test.xls: Microsoft Office Document
test.ppt: Microsoft Office Document
# file -i test.doc test.mdb test.xls
test.doc: application/msword
test.mdb: application/msaccess
test.xls:
test.ppt:

Patch:
I *think* this can be cured by adding the following lines to the file
/usr/shar/file/magic.mime:

0x3480 string W\0o\0r\0k\0b\0o\0o\0k\0 application/vnd.ms-excel
0x480 string P\0o\0w\0e\0r\0P\0o\0i\0n\0t\0 application/vnd.ms-powerpoint

However, I'm not absolutely sure if the offsets given will always be
constant; it might be more advisable to walk along a few pointers within
the file.
Also note that I used "vendor" mime types instead of simply
application/excel and application/powerpoint to conform with mime types
from apache's standard configuration files.

Additional note:
The same search strings added to /usr/shar/file/magic might serve to
find a more precise answer than just "Microsoft Office Document", i.e.

0x3480 string W\0o\0r\0k\0b\0o\0o\0k\0 Microsoft Excel Workbook
0x480 string P\0o\0w\0e\0r\0P\0o\0i\0n\0t\0 Microsoft PowerPoint
Presentation

Bug#398356: provide a way to name the interface

2006-11-13 Thread martin f krafft
Package: nstx
Version: 1.1-beta6-4
Severity: wishlist

It would rock if nstx provided a way to (re)name the interface. For
instance, on systems with OpenVPN installed, it will otherwise
depend on startup order which daemon gets tun0 and which gets tun1.
It would rock if nstx could just rename the tun* interface it gets
to 'nstxd'.

iproute can do this btw:

ip link set tun0 name nstxd

so this could be realised in the init.d script iff iproute were
installed and nstxd would communicate which interface it actually
got.

A better way would be to pass the desired name to nstxd at startup
and have it pass an ifreq struct with ifr_name set to the TUNSETIFF
ioctl. It should then also report which interface actually got used.

Well, that file isn't read anymore, so the bug is in that case "the default
does not contain a default setting for FocusNextkey", not "unable to read
FocusNextKey from the system-wide configuration".

I have no idea why Debian ships its own Window Maker default, though;
upstream has one already...

Bug#398359: nautilus: Remove button disabled when trying to remove programs to open a file with

2006-11-13 Thread Abel Martín

Package: nautilus
Version: 2.14.3-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

The 'Open with' dialog that offers the user the possibility of adding
or removing programs to open a specific file format. The problem is
that it's impossible to remove programs from this list, because the
remove button is often disabled.

It might be a bit annoying because when you left-button click over a
file the 'Open with' menu shows a lot of apps to do this task, if you
have installed many packages that can handle this file format.

To reproduce this bug follow this steps:
- Left click over a file, let's say an MP3 file
- Select 'Properties'
- Go to the 'Open with' tab
- The 'Remove' button is disabled

This button should only be disabled if there's only one program to

Ok, good to know.

What subarch and filesystem do you use? No raid as I have understood, but
do you run an SMP system?

That makes little sense to me---Konsole is a fancy x-terminal and should
be doing the equivalent of "bash -c someprogram" with session programs.

> It is not konsole that reads your .bashrc, it is bash that reads it.

Have another look at the output from "env" I sent, it contains:

SHELL=/bin/bash

So, ~/.bashrc should have been read, and it used to work correctly...

...without polluting the environment for all of KDE, or needing to
configure the same thing in multiple places. Your solution is also not
good if one wanted a different environment for sh, bash, etc., where
the same variable may need to take on different values.

It was already disabled in my configuration but I'm using this
configuration and PC now for several years and had never such a
behavior. I also created a complete new user with default settings
(where the above mentioned key is enabled) and again the same. Disabling
the key was with no changes.

Bug#398364: gnomebaker: In-project directory creation is buggy

2006-11-13 Thread Javier Kohen
Package: gnomebaker
Version: 0.6.0-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

When a directory is created in the Data DVD tab, it appears on the file panel
on the right, but not on the tree view on the left. Moreover, files cannot be
put inside it, as it's not possible to "enter" the directory, either by
double-clicking on it or by choosing the "Open" action on its context menu.

Bug#398356: just found -d, but no solution

2006-11-13 Thread martin f krafft
shame on me, i just found the -d option. However, it does not seem
to work:

diamond:/tmp# nstxd -C /var/run/nstxd -u nstxd -d nstxd my.doma.in
Opening tun/tap-device... failed!
Diagnostics:
Tun (/dev/net/tun): /dev/net/tun not found. Please create /dev/net/ and
 mknod /dev/net/tun c 10 200 to use the tun-device
Tap (/dev/tap0):
(only available under linux)
/dev/tap0 not found. Please
 mknod /dev/tap0 c 36 16 to use the tap-device

but /dev/net/tun exists.

Also, nstxd already returns the tun0 device name it uses to stdout,
but start-stop-daemon munges that.

All of this also applies to nstxcd, which has no -d switch to begin
with.
