Bug#396920: apt-build: --target-release don't influence on selecting version of building package.

The option --target-release don't make anyting for spawing apt-cache

2006-11-03 Thread Brian Ristuccia
Package: libpam-modules
Version: 0.76-22

If a user's password is changed by root, pam_unix ignores the remember=
parameter and the old password hash is not placed in /etc/security/opasswd.
Nothing prevents the user from changing their password back to the previous
(potentially compromised) value.

This borders on the insane ... obviously I should have read dash(1) better;
then I would have seen that the ^ is a bashism and should have been an !. I
wonder how many will actually be affected by this.

So it looks like you managed to get it working. Can you provide the

I understand your point: The admin should not upgrade without prior
thought. However, even if he has done the proper preparations like
logging in via a serial console, he still cannot upgrade unless he
changes the debconf setting - and back to the prior setting to avoid
shooting his foot the next time. This is a bit of a nuissance.

> So would you suggest to just clarify the wording of the question or

My suggestion: Check whether quagga is still running and abort the
upgrade only if it does. Print a warning then about probable loss of
connectivity during the upgrade and say that quagga has to be stopped
manually before upgrade to avoid a fatal situation.

Bug#367973: Twiki - about to miss a release?

I haven't cc'd the bug 367973 that this comes from - Steve if you want
the background please see

http://bugs.debian.org/twiki.

Sven Dowideit:

its stuff like this that just keeps depressing me into not finishing the
work i do packaging twiki for debian.

"Stuff like" what? I think Thijs's point is that you appear to not be
doing much, for whatever reason, and twiki is going to miss another
release which is a shame and inconvenience for users. There is a
247-day old bug relating to the latest release last February, and you
haven't even acknowledged it.

your officiousness is a joy, ta.

same sort of thing as when just before the last debian release came out,
and some one helpfully filed an un-reproducible RC bug, that didn't
happen for anyone else, but no debian developer came out to help.

you guys really truly don't want help from people outside your klic do you.

I'm not really sure what you're complaining about. Please maintain the
package or RFA it. If you are maintaining it, it certainly looks like
you aren't.

stone 2.3c fixes a double free bug and a busy loop bug which seem
to be important. So, I've changed the severity of this bug.

Anyway, I hope the maintainer will update the stone package soon.

Bug#396922: FTBFS: Missing Build Dependency on libgmp3-dev

2006-11-03 Thread Ludovic RESLINGER
Package: guile-1.8
Version: 1.8.1+1-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

guile-1.8 is failing to build during configure stage
with this error:

checking for __gmpz_init in -lgmp... no
configure: error: GNU MP not found, see README
make: *** [debian/stamp/config] Error 1
debuild: fatal error at line 1224:

In README file, upstream author has indicated that the
following dependencies are necessary to build guile-1.8:
- libltdl from libtool. (like it is indicated in #395235).
- GNU MP, at least version 4.1.

To solve this bug, you must add a Build Dependency on
libgmp3-dev (>= 4.1) in debian/control.

Add this dependency may be the solution to solve #395290 too.

Thanks.

If you want do discuss, don't castrate the quotation to strip the
original meaning away (attached below).

> Then I encourage you to first remove the lies against cdrtools
> that are spread on the wodim web page and in the archives.

Jeez, pile of crap instead of a honest answer. Some things I suggest to
you: if you want to discuss sensibly, don't jump between topics
pretending to make a valid logical implication ("then"). If you want any
cooperation, don't try to blackmail us by creating causality between
unrelated things ("to first ..."). If you want to be taken seriously,
don't request unrealistic things ("remove from archives"). If you want
to get a reputation of fair and honest man, don't accuse us of beeing
liars without proof.

If you want to spread bullshit, /dev/null is the right place for that.
Or maybe the troll area of the Heise Forum, it's Friday.

Your choice.

Eduard.

Heh, I think you have :)

Sven, I would be happy to help you with these twiki issues.
You can tag the bugs you need help with with the bts tag 'help'.
Would you accept to co-maintain twiki? Would you prefer to to orphan it?
There is no reason to work on something that depresses you.

Let us know how we can bring the fun back into your Debian work!
We are here to help, and I mean it!

Bug#396346: My 2 cents

2006-11-03 Thread Romain Beauxis
Hi !

Not to feed the beast, but I do agree that users using marillat's packages
should know what they are doing..

Anyway, puting a configuration for /etc/apt/preferences such as:

Package: *
Pin: release l=Unofficial Multimedia Packages
Pin-Priority: 150

in README.Debian, or, best in marillat's FAQ should be an easy answer (it did
the trick for me at least)..

Adding a couple of line to /etc/apt/sources.list is just the same difficulty
as adding this to /etc/apt/preferences after all..

I CC'ed marillat if he wants to add it to his FAQ..

Bug#367973: Twiki - about to miss a release?

2006-11-03 Thread Olivier Berger
Hi.

For what it's worth, I'd like to suggest some of you to have a look at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=354759 in which I added
a pointer to an unofficial package, which I think was made by the
maintainer...

IMHO, it's not obvious from what appears in bugs.debian.org that TWiki
may be maintained... but I think the maintainer may still be working,
although quite silently...

Just my 2 cents,

Best regards,

Bug#396926: beagle: Beagle does not stop when laptop is off ac line.

2006-11-03 Thread L. A. Linden Levy
Package: beagle
Version: 0.2.11-1
Severity: normal

I talked to the dashboard list and they added a patch to the head of
the cvs tree for beagle. Then I grabbed out this change and made a
dpatch for both the testing and unstable versions of beagle in
debian. The attached dpatch seemed to apply fine to both versions and
I was able to install the packages ater building. Also I can confirm
that for my laprop at least this now behaves correctly.

As we (you, Matthias and I) discussed previously, I'll schedule it for
removal, but I'm waiting until audacious enters testing.

Bug#396835: tetex-bin postinst take unlimited amount of time and ram (kpsewhich took 600M and 14h)

2006-11-03 Thread Frank Küster
Hi Marcin,

I hope I don't upset you by this e-mail bombardment... But currently I
have some time to think about it and test, but I won't have much time
this weekend. Here's one more suggestion for debugging. Add the
following line to your sources.list:

deb http://people.debian.org/~frank/teTeX-3.0 experimental main

(don't be afraid about experimental, it only contains some tetex-base
packages for testing). After apt-get update, "apt-cache policy
tetex-base" should list version 3.0.dfsg.3-2~1 as "Candidate". (If
that's not the case, there might be something "wrong" with
preferences).

Please install this package the usual way, but also catch the output in
a file:

apt-get install tetex-extra 2>&1 | tee install.log

This will probably produce lots of output, and I don't know whether it
will stop at some point and hang, or go in circles. Anyway, you'll be
able to see whether the error has been triggered (consumes much memory,
listing of ps axf). If that has happened, interrupt it as usual, and
send the file install.log.

As I said, I won't be able to look at it soon, but I hope someone else
in the team will.

Many thanks in advance,
Frank

Bug#396928: /etc/init.d/cron should source /etc/default/cron for add'l options

2006-11-03 Thread Darren Dittrich
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-99
Severity: minor

Rather than set cron startup options (such as LSBNAMES) within the init.d
script, please add a /etc/default/cron file with a CRON_OPTS= line.
This would allow admins to more easily include other startup options as well,
such as the undocumented "-L 2" logging option for start/end times in the
cron.log.

Shipping gfdl.1 will not really solve the bug. Licenses not shipped
in /usr/share/common-licenses/ must be *included* in debian/copyright,
a pointer to another file is not enough.

Bug#391350: Same problem using crontab -e after update

2006-11-03 Thread Laurent Vromman
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-99
Followup-For: Bug #391350

Since I upgraded cron this morning, I have the same problem using cron
than Jari Aalto :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ crontab -e
crontabs/leirn: Permission non accordée

Strace gave me more information, which are similar to Jari's one :
stat64("/var/spool/cron", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0
chdir("/var/spool/cron")= 0
stat64("crontabs", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|S_ISVTX|0730, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0

open("crontabs/leirn", O_RDONLY)= -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

I confirm the file /var/spool/cron/crontabs/leirn does exist and has ths
right permission for user leirn to access it :

beast:/var/spool/cron/crontabs# ll
total 12K
-rw--- 1 leirn crontab 278 2006-01-30 13:14 leirn

crontab seems to be able to acces libnss and /etc/password :

open("/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libnss_files.so.2", O_RDONLY) = 3

open("/etc/passwd", O_RDONLY) = 3

I hope this will help.

and when run in interactive mode, it all works fine.

I can't give you a '-v -v' output at the moment, because for me, the
problem occurs *only sometimes* and I think that is significant. Note
that for Eike, the problem is with the first entry in ~/.fetchmailrc -
same is true here, all other servers (I poll two) are queried just fine.

My system is not permanently connected to the internet (it's a laptop),
and the impression I have as to what happens is that when fetchmail
first starts up, name resolution doesn't work yet so the first server
gives an error, and this error is then stored permanently somewhere - a
bug in getaddrinfo()?

Bug#396880: dblatex: error in file dblatex/xsl/docbook.xsl

2006-11-03 Thread Andreas Hoenen
You're right, unfortunately dblatex has a problem that has been ignored
by xsltproc before release 1.1.18-1.

The problem has been discussed yesterday/today in the mailing list
dblatex-devel [1] (although the mail thread does not seem to have hit
the list archive yet), resulting in the following simple patch:

diff -u -r1.1 legalnotice.xsl
--- legalnotice.xsl 31 Jul 2005 18:47:23 - 1.1
+++ legalnotice.xsl 2 Nov 2006 23:56:38 -

-
+

 %%

The file to be patched is
/usr/share/xml/docbook/stylesheet/dblatex/xsl/legalnotice.xsl

I'm currently working at high pressure on a debian release of dblatex
0.2 with this bug fix included. I hope to get someone to sponsor the
new release quickly, thus hopefully this problem should be out of the
world soon.

Bug#395493: [Pkg-mailman-hackers] Bug#395493: mailman: smtp-failure:timeout, bad file descriptor, set_debuglevel

and put the old files back and see if mailman works again..

Thank you very much.

Temporary SOLUTION?

"replacements for /usr/lib/python2.3/smtplib.py
and /usr/lib/mailman/Mailman/Logging/Utils.py that will enable
smtplib-debugging to work (you still have to patch SMTPDirect.py) "

I went in and renamed smtplib.py to smtplib.py.1
put the new file in and deleted smtplib.pyc ad smtplib.pyo
Then renamed /usr/lib/mailman/Mailman/Logging/Utils.py to Utils.py.1
(make sure its this one...there is at least 5 files called Utils.py)
put the new file in and deleted Utils.pyc and Utils.pyo

then
/etc/init.d/mailman restart
tail -f /var/log/mailman/error

while i was watching this i sent an email to my testing group, etc.

Long story short. I replaced these files, removed pyc and pyo and
suddenly everything works like magic again. No more timeouts.
I'll try to get originals back and see how that works. I'll keep you posted.

Bug#396933: net.agent and ide.agent

2006-11-03 Thread Joey Hess
Package: udev-udeb
Version: 0.100-2.2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: d-i

The udeb contains ide.agent, which according to its comment is only
needed for an old kernel version, and which seems redundant anyway for
d-i. I think this should be removed to save space.

The z55_hotplug.rules file has lines that use both ide.agent and
net.agent. net.agent is not needed in d-i, so not included, but this
results in an ugly message during d-i boot about net.agent not being
present. These lines should be removed from the rules file in the udeb.

The default configuration generates a warning about missing
dependencies. This is a bug.

The latest package still has this problem.

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.

It needs small tweak, see bellow.

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream

I now have a better understanding of the problem.

This works:

Welcome to my document—quite a small one.
-=-=-=

This doesn't:
-=-=-=
Welcome to my document—quite a small one.
-=-=-=

But this does:
-=-=-=
Welcome to my document; quite a small one.
-=-=-=

However, I am working on a big document split in several files, all
included from a master. The various parts do not have XML and DOCTYPE
declaration. I can sort that out in the preprocessing/Makefile, but it
would be more convenient if dblatex could be more flexible smooth out
such problems. After all, is not the input supposed to be DocBook?

I guess this can requalify as a wishlist then.

Bug#396938: aptitude: symbol lookup error: undefined symbol: _ZN9pkgPolicyD2Ev

2006-11-03 Thread Alexandre Rossi
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.4-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

Because of #388708, I pinned apt.

Since aptitude 0.4.3-1 -> 0.4.4-1 I think, aptitude works well but outputs the
following message :

# LANG=C aptitude upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading extended state information
Initializing package states... Done
Building tag database... Done
No packages will be installed, upgraded, or removed.
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 0B will be used.
aptitude: symbol lookup error: aptitude: undefined symbol: _ZN9pkgPolicyD2Ev

(I used LANG=C to make messages displayed in English, but the problem is also
present with my default locale)

I think it has to do with an ABI change in apt without a soname change (that's
what I understood from similar bug reports). Anyway, aptitude 0.4.4 shouldn't
depend on apt >= 0.6.46 ?

Feel free to ask for more information.

Bug#396937: Backgrounded ntpdate from ifup races with hwclock

2006-11-03 Thread beck
Package: ntpdate
Version: 1:4.2.2.p4+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

it appears that the new way ntpdate-debian is called from if-up.d (starting
it as a background process to prevent delays during boot) can lead to a
race with hwclock.sh which is called later from rcS. In my case, ntpdate
was seemingly started after the interface went up and ran a while in the
background. In the meantime, hwclock.sh corrected the clock according to
CMOS clock information. At this point, the clock is correct, but ntpdate
is still not completed. When it finally completes, it corrects the clock
by another hour, resulting in a wrong clock. The unsatisfactory result is
that though I have a correct CMOS clock, working NTP servers and I am
running both ntpdate and a local NTP server, I end up with the wrong
time. Due to the large offset, ntpd will not fix the clock, either.

My CMOS clock is running in local time (intentionally) which is CET.

I don't see a perfect solution for this issue, as backgrounding ntpdate
was requested in a lot of bug reports and should probably stay. Either
ntpdate itself is broken and assumes that nothing else could change the
system clock during the long seconds it might need from start to the
actual correction, or it interferes in another unexpected way with
hwclock (which delays a bit for itself due to the CMOS clock specifics).
Of course there is a general problem anyway, as there is AFAIK no
atomic method of getting and setting the system clock in POSIX. But it
depends on the actual coding whether this race condition will be exposed
with significant probability - I could repeat it over and over again and
get the wrong time on every reboot...

Is there any decent reason why hwclock.sh is S50 in rcS.d? Having it
run significantly earlier would get rid of the problem quite nicely and
the system would have correct time earlier in the boot process as well.

TIA,
Andre.

Bug#396945: update-manager: Please package Software Properties separately

2006-11-03 Thread Michael Williamson
Package: update-manager
Severity: wishlist

Would it be possible to setup Software Properties as a separate package?
There are two main reasons for doing this: firstly, it would make the
package easier to find. If you want that software properties then just
searching through the names of the package will probably result in
being unable to find the right package. Secondly, some people might want
this functionality without having to install update-manager.

For the options allowing automatic updates, perhaps a check could be
run to see if update-manager is installed, and if not, offer to install
the correct dependencies? (I'm assuming that this uses update-manager to
install the updates)

Thanks

Mike Williamson

Bug#396943: Crash when removing GoogleTalk account while still connected

2006-11-03 Thread Alex Papadopoulos

Package: wengophone
Version: 2.0.0~rc5-svn8108-2
Severity: important

Good evening,

I tried to use wengophone with my Google Talk account and after
deciding to delete it, the application crashed. Apparently, when trying
to remove a Google Talk account while being connected to it, the
application crashes. If it doesn't crash immediatly after validating
the delete request, it crashes when you exit your profile window.

I take the opportunity to also signal some other problems here with
GTalk accounts:
1) While adding an GTalk account, we are asked for the username which
is automatically appended with '@gmail' afterwards. The problem is that
some people get '@googlemail' accounts and it doesn't work with
'@gmail'.

2) I cannot connect to my google account (which is a '@googlemail.com'
one) however the little smiley is enabled and I'm marked as online (this
might cause the crash explained above). I set the username to
'[EMAIL PROTECTED]' and from the debug messages, no '@gmail.com' was
appended to it, I seem to be online (smiley enabled), but I'm not
(verified with my main jabber account).

Thanks for your time. If any more info is needed, please don't hesitate
to ask. Btw, if upstream authors are contacted, could you please stress
that their saying that they are approaching to final release after this
RC5 is a bit scary, when such problems seem to still occur.

Bug#396940: twm: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD (due to manpage suffix)

2006-11-03 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: twm
Severity: important
Version: 1:1.0.1-4
Tags: patch

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD,
see http://experimental.ftbfs.de/build.php?&pkg=twm&arch=kfreebsd-i386

It needs regenerated aclocal.m4 and configure files
using recent xorg-macros.m4 to unify manpages suffixes.

Please re-run "aclocal-1.7; autoconf" and change suffixes as shown bellow.

Thanks in advance

Petr

Bug#367973: Twiki - about to miss a release?

2006-11-03 Thread Sven Dowideit
true, I don't do much, other than update the debian package at http://
members.iinet.net.au/~spos once a month or two, and send it off to my
sponsor.

As a TWiki developer, rather than a debian developer, I don't feel
supported by you guys, just attacked, but none the less, I maintain
what i can.

"Stuff like" what? I think Thijs's point is that you appear to not
be doing much, for whatever reason, and twiki is going to miss
another release which is a shame and inconvenience for users.
There is a 247-day old bug relating to the latest release last
February, and you haven't even acknowledged it.

your officiousness is a joy, ta.
same sort of thing as when just before the last debian release

and some one helpfully filed an un-reproducible RC bug, that didn't
happen for anyone else, but no debian developer came out to help.
you guys really truly don't want help from people outside your

I'm not really sure what you're complaining about. Please maintain
the package or RFA it. If you are maintaining it, it certainly
looks like you aren't.

Argl, what a bummer ;(. For simplicity, -4 will have this patch
disabled, and will close the bug.

Re-open if that does not fix the problem, but it smells just like it.

Thanks for the hint,

My mistake. In Python 2.4, smtplib.py debug output does go to stderr,
but in Python 2.3 it goes to stdout.

Bug#396951: brasero: --data does not work

2006-11-03 Thread Jonas Meurer
Package: brasero
Version: 0.4.4-4
Severity: normal

Hello,

according to 'brasero --help', brasero offers several command-line
options. -a starts it directly in audio cd mode, -d in data cd mode.

unfortunately -d (or --data) opens brasero in audio cd mode, other
than documented in 'brasero --help'.

-a (--audio) and -c (--copy) work, only -d (--data) doesn't.

There seems to lie the problem, it should be:

This is a problem in vim, as James Vega and I just determined:

Bug#396949: lynx: uses .mime.types and .mailcap from the current directory (arbitrary shell code execution)

2006-11-03 Thread Piotr Engelking

Package: lynx-cur
Version: 2.8.7dev1-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Lynx attempts to use the .mime.types and .mailcap files located in the
current directory:

$ strace lynx -dump 2>&1 | grep '^open("[^/]'
open(".mailcap", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open(".mime.types", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
$

This allows an attacker to cause lynx to execute arbitrary shell code when a
user runs lynx while visiting a directory with attacker-provided contents.

I just uploaded a new version (13.11-3) which had some changes regarding
monitor detection. Could you give that a try to see if it works any
better? I'm working on getting my laptop setup with usplash to see if I
can reproduce the problem in case the new version is still buggy.

* Package name: ps-watcher

  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : monitoring a system via ps-like commands

This program runs the ps command periodically and triggers commands on matches.
The match patterns are Perl regular expressions which can refer to the process
 information via variables.
 .
For example it can be used to ensure that a daemon is running, or is not
running too many times. It can also be used to determine when a process has
consumed too many resources, perhaps due to a memory leak.

What I am trying to do here is find a way to work together in a more

I am looking at your last package. I am thinking of uploading it as it
closes several RC and security bugs. Can I add some patches here and

Yes. In my case, if I fail a drive, it is still there in a failed state,
but if I then stop the raid array, when it's restarted, the failed drive
is no longer there, as if it was removed meanwhile, only that I never
issued the remove command. And when the array starts, it shows that it
started degraded with only 1 out of 2 drives.

I managed to reproduce it; you just have to write to the array after
fail and before stop:

piper:~# mdadm -Cl1 -n2 /dev/md99 /dev/sd[ef]1
piper:~# mdadm --fail /dev/md99 /dev/sde1
mdadm: set /dev/sde1 faulty in /dev/md99
piper:~# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/md99
[...]
65667072 bytes (66 MB) copied, 2.57956 seconds, 25.5 MB/s
piper:~# mdadm -Ss
mdadm: stopped /dev/md99
piper:~# mdadm -As
mdadm: /dev/md/99 has been started with 1 drive (out of 2).
mdadm: /dev/md/99 already active, cannot restart it!
mdadm: /dev/md/99 already active, cannot restart it!
[...]

Martin,

I'm pretty sure that writing to the failed array is not the cause of
the problem, but more like a trigger. In my case I have never wrote to
the failed arrays during my testing. There was an array I have never
wrote anything to, and in another case there was an array I only wrote
to while it was complete (before failing it).

But I'm glad you were able to at least see the problem I'm
experiencing. One thing that intrigues me is why in my case when
failing a drive and stopping the array, after restarting it, the failed
drive was already removed (even though I never removed it myself) and
the arrays started degraded with 1 drive out of 2, and in your case the
array started with the failed drive included and reported that it
started with 2 drives.

It's not going to be merged upstream (see the comment on gnome-mount).

Ubuntu has the translations, but we don't, and the patch doesn't. I'm
not sure whether you know about it so I'll explain it anyway: launchpad
has something called "Rosetta" which permits translators to work via a
web interface on the translations which then get shipped in the langage
packs. We don't have something similar (yet), so you would need to
pull all translations and merge them in the *.po files... not fun.

Bug#396955: scalapack: Build ScaLAPACK packages for use with Open MPI

2006-11-03 Thread Oliver Bock

Open MPI packages have become available for Debian just recently. It would be
great to have a ScaLAPACK version which makes use of "the best MPI
library available" (quote, openmpi package). I guess, however, there also
has to be an Open MPI version of BLACS first in order to build the dependent
ScaLAPACK packages.

Bug#396958: /usr/bin/X: several off-by-one errors in debian/local/xserver-wrapper.c

2006-11-03 Thread Jochen Voss
Package: x11-common
Version: 1:7.1.0-5
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/X

Hello,

recently I discovered the following bits of code in the source file
debian/local/xserver-wrapper.c (function 'main', starting at line
172):

int
main(int argc, char **argv)
{
  ...
  char line[1024];
  char var[64];
  char value[256];
  ...

val = fgets(line, 1024, cf);

while (val != NULL) {
  var[0] = '\0';
  value[0] = '\0';
  if (sscanf(line, " %64[A-Za-z0-9_] = %256[A-Za-z0-9_ -] ",
 var, value) > 0) {

This use of 'sscanf' is unsafe and leads to a buffer overflow if
either the key is >=64 characters long or the value is >=256
characters long (the trailing '\0' spills over). From the GNU libc
manual:

   * Provide a buffer to store it in. This is the default. You should
provide an argument of type `char *' or `wchar_t *' (the latter of
 the `l' modifier is present).

*Warning:* To make a robust program, you must make sure that the
input (plus its terminating null) cannot possibly exceed the size
of the buffer you provide. In general, the only way to do this is
to specify a maximum field width one less than the buffer size. ...

Thus the offending line should read

  if (sscanf(line, " %63[A-Za-z0-9_] = %255[A-Za-z0-9_ -] ",
 var, value) > 0) {

instead.

Some lines later the following bit of code can be found:

  char xserver[1024];
  ...
  i = readlink(X_SERVER_SYMLINK, xserver, 1024);
  ...
  xserver[i] = '\0'; /* readlink() does not null-terminate the string */

Again this is an off-by-one error. 'readlink' will happily return
1024 for long link targets (assuming that the file system allows
this), and the assignment to 'xserver[i]' will overflow the buffer
'xserver' then.

Neither of these issues looks especially exploitable to me but it
might be good to fix them anyway. (Note that this code is part of an
suid root binary.)

I hope this helps,
Jochen
