Bug#393621: apt-listchanges: [INTL:fr] French program translation

2006-10-17 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: apt-listchanges
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

(this is a standard message, not customized for your package)

Please find attached the french translation of this package's
programs, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list
contributors.

This file should be put as "fr.po" in the appropriate po/
directory. If this package is not a native Debian package, please
don't forget to forward this translation to the upstream maintainer.

Depending on the version of the build tools or the build process used
in the software, you may have to update the LINGUAS variable in the
configure scripts in case the french translation is a *new*
translation for this software/package.

Bug#392785: Zope-book (Was: Rebuilding all etch packages inside etch)

I personally came to the same conclusion. Anybody out there who
wants to keep zope-book in Debian?

Bug#393623: zabbix agent and zabbix server fail to detach from running terminal when restarted

2006-10-17 Thread Hannu Teulahti
Package: zabbix

Both zabbix-server and zabbix-agent fail to detach from console when
restarted.

You can test this with connecting to a box with ssh and restarting
either zabbix daemon. After restart ssh session does not end at logout.

session ends properly if restart is called like this:
/etc/init.d/zabbix-server restart < /dev/null &> /dev/null

BackupPC used to have similar problems in the past

Bug#392990:

2006-10-17 Thread Santiago Ruano Rincón
It seems to be a linux kernel 2.6.18-2 bug, it's not present when
building the modules with a 2.6.16.

modules_install Makefile rule runs a "DEPMOD 2.6.18"

maybe that the reason.

The kernel sees the firewire interface as "eth0"

Well done!

Could you please restart the installation (just restart, no need to
write on the disk ) and report which text you see at the menu
that allow to choose between eth0 and eth1

   eth0: requested text
eth1: text I can see at computers with ethernet

Bug#393624: aegis: FTBFS when built as root

2006-10-17 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: aegis
Version: 4.22-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

The aegis package FTBFS when the build is run as root. Some tests fail,
claiming the "user root too privileged".

Example:
CXX="g++" /bin/sh etc/test.sh -shell /bin/sh -run \
test/02/t0231a-walt.sh test/02/t0231a-walt.ES
aegis: Warning: The setlocale() function failed. This results in you
seeing
the short form of the error messages. You may need to check the
settings of your LC_ALL and LANG environment variables. Use the
"locale -a" command to obtain a list of valid locales. If the
list is
very short, you may have a glibc install problem.
aegis: user root too privileged
NO RESULT when testing the 'aedist -rec' functionality (new project
132)

Even if nothing in policy forbids aegis from such behaviour, it would be
a good idea to allow building as root, since this makes it slightly
harder to test the aegis package during automated test builds, for
example.

Thank you,

This is an empty transitional package. In common with many other
transitional packages, it contains nothing whatsoever except the
required control files. It will disappear in etch+1. If the RMs
think this is release critical, I'll fix it, otherwise I won't.

Bug#393629: quota: ldapmail support not enabled

2006-10-17 Thread Warren Turkal
Subject: quota: ldapmail support not enabled
Package: quota
Version: 3.14-1
Severity: normal

Please enable ldapmail support. All of the documentation for ldap mail
is included, but the ldapmail feature is configured out at build time.
Please also make a note in the README.Debian that the ldapmail feature
doesn't exist until you enable it as it cost me a fair amount of time
trying to diagnose why it was not working after being configured.

I had the download the source package to confirm that it was not
enabled after I configured my warnquota with directions from
README.ldap-support.

On a related note, if there is any other support for ldap in the quota
package it would be nice to see it enabled as well.

Thanks a bunch,
wt

Bug#198075: gnu-smalltalk: (m68k/unstable) FTBFS segfaults during build

2006-10-17 Thread Paolo Bonzini

Roman Zippel wrote:

Hi,

I looked into the build problems and with the attached patch I can
successfully build the package and even the test complete successfully.
The main problem is with heap_block in alloc.h, which causes all following
structures to be misaligned.
The other problem is that the configure script doesn't configure the fault
handler correctly, the m68k check is too late and CFG_FAULT already has
been set fault-posix.h.

Great, thanks!

Bug#390949: Confirming what Nikolai said

2006-10-17 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira

Hi!

After reading what Nikolai said, I remembered that some time ago I
added an alternative of python. So pytho here is:

/usr/bin/python -> /etc/alternatives/python
/etc/alternatives/python -> /usr/bin/python2.4

And running "pyversions -r 'current'" I get:

$ pyversions -r 'current'
pythonlternatives/python

Changing the link to

/usr/bin/python -> /usr/bin/python2.4

the versions is correct again:

# pyversions -r 'current'
python2.4

Maybe this version test needs to be redone, so cases like this won't fail again?

Thank you very much!

Nelson

Sorry all! Please, close the bug. It turns out, that the problem was in
our kernel: 64 bit kernel, if_dqblk has one 32-bit field,
and alignment works, while there is no alignment in user space if_dqblk
structure. Sorry once again.

Yikes.

The effect is the same at the Linux console and that's indeed crazy
because this is absolutely new:-(

The current behaviour fo the fr-latin9 keymap at the Linux console in
unstable is really mad. Just try it, you'll see.

So, it really seems that your proposed fix should be done also for
console use.

Denis, I know you have resigned officially, but I know also that you
will not leave us in the merde...:-). Could you give your advice about
this bug.

Bug#198075: gnu-smalltalk: (m68k/unstable) FTBFS segfaults during build

2006-10-17 Thread Paolo Bonzini

The other problem is that the configure script doesn't configure the fault
handler correctly, the m68k check is too late and CFG_FAULT already has
been set fault-posix.h.

This means that, in theory, the fault-posix.h handler was found to work.

In fact, from
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=gnu-smalltalk;ver=2.1.8-2.1;arch=m68k;stamp=1156726548
I see this:

checking whether a fault handler according to POSIX works... yes
...
checking whether a fault handler according to Linux/m68k works... yes
...
checking if the system supports catching SIGSEGV... yes

I have applied your patch to my copy of libsigsegv, but I hesitate a bit
in applying it upstream.

Sure; but does the new beagle-dev depend on libbeagle-dev? That would let
people developing in C switch to libbeagle-dev whenever it's convenient for
them, and continue to build-depend on beagle-dev in the meantime without
their packages being broken by this transition. (And if the C# bindings
depend on the C library, it may be necessary regardless.)

Is it correct to understand that if the password question hasn't

If that's allowed. Otherwise, we can give you an "API" to query exim4
for its configuration. otoh, that one is already there, just do
exim4 -bt [EMAIL PROTECTED] and check the results.

Neither am I, but the d-i people have been pressing very hard that
exim4 stops asking technical questions during installation, and we had
to settle for a default.

Agreed, but things have changed. The majority of our installations is
nowadays done on consumer-grade internet connections which might have
their port 25 filtered on ISP side, transparently proxied to a
smarthost which requires authentication or be listed in a DUL type
blocking list.

Yes, considering an ISP with tcp/25 filtered.

Sounds like the way that'll most likely work. For a few years, before
filters with http state/content functions are widely deployed.

Bug#393646: PATH_TRANSLATED: 'redirect:/~jablko/gallery2/main.php'

2006-10-17 Thread Jack Bates
Package: apache2
Version: 2.2.3-2

Using both mod_rewrite and php-cgi stopped working when I upgraded to
Apache 2.2. Using mod_rewrite now sets PATH_TRANSLATED:
'redirect:/~jablko/gallery2/main.php', which breaks php-cgi:

HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found

Server: Apache/2.2.3 (Debian) DAV/2
X-Powered-By: PHP/4.4.4-3

Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8

No input file specified.

Previously, PATH_TRANSLATED:
'/home/jablko/public_html/gallery2/main.php'

How can I get Apache 2.2 to set PATH_TRANSLATED:
'/home/jablko/public_html/gallery2/main.php', like Apache 2.0, instead
of PATH_TRANSLATED: 'redirect:/~jablko/gallery2/main.php'?

is a severe violation of Debian policy (roughly, it violates a
"must" or "required" directive), or, in the package maintainer's
opinion, makes the package unsuitable for release.

Obviously a "should" it is not a "must" nor a "required".
Also this bug doesn't make the package unsuitable for release.
Therefor I'm lowering the severity to normal.
Thanks for reporting this bug, we'll try to fix it as soon as we can.

Héctor

Thanks. A closer inspection shows that the correct md5sums for these
files are already registered. However, the files are expected in
/etc/texmf/map/dvips/, while they are actually in /etc/texmf/dvips.
This is the correct TDS location if /etc/texmf were a TEXMF tree, but
only for teTeX 2.0.2.

In fact the files where at this place during the development of sarge
(compare the changelog entries for tetex-base_2.0.2-7 and 2.0.2a-1).

One could now check out the last version before 2.0.2a-1 (that is
2.0.2-9) from the old CVS repository, build the packages and inspect
this. But I'm not sure we should really put even more code in there
that is only needed for past development versions.

Bug#393650: Firefox randomly closing, then refusing to restart with segfault

2006-10-17 Thread Rebecca Palmer
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0.4-2sarge11

Recently (since about last week's xfree86 security update), Mozilla Firefox has
sometimes (every day or two) either refused to start or randomly closed itself
(without any error message) and refused to restart. Once it has appeared the
problem persists through multiple start attempts, until cleared by either
rebooting the system or reinstalling Firefox (apt-get install mozilla-firefox
mozilla-firefox-gnome-support --reinstall).

On a failed start from the Applications menu or desktop icon, the menu closes
normally but nothing else visible happens. On a failed start from a terminal,
the error message can be either just "Segmentation fault" or "/usr/bin/firefox:
line 349: 3610 Segmentation fault DISPLAY="${CMDLINE_DISPLAY}"
${MOZ_PROGRAM} -remote 'ping()' >/dev/null 2>&1
Segmentation fault".

While it is possible that the cause is outside Firefox (I run a commercial
on-access antivirus which doesn't officially support Debian
(http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/4377.html) and get a lot of
"INIT: No inittab file found" hangs on shutdown/reboot, though /etc/inittab is
in fact present), nothing else seems to be crashing like this.

I am running Sarge, with all security updates, dual boot with Windows 98 on an
Intel Celeron 500MHz, 256MB RAM, RTL8139 Ethernet card connected to college
network. I know how to program, but mostly do games/simulations and have never
worked on anything as security-critical as a web browser.

When I tried to obtain a stack trace, I got the following:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ firefox %u
/usr/bin/firefox: line 349: 3610 Segmentation fault
DISPLAY="${CMDLINE_DISPLAY}" ${MOZ_PROGRAM} -remote 'ping()' >/dev/null 2>&1

Bug#393648: manpages-fr-extra: bogus translation in dd.1 for fdatasync option

2006-10-17 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: manpages-fr-extra
Version: 20061005
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hi,

The translation of fdatasync option documentation is bogus:

« Avec fdatasync, les données du fichier de sortie sont progressivement
écrites physiquement »

That's not correct: the sync does not occur during the transfer, but
only at the end, which makes a big performance difference. Moreover,
the alignment is not correct (like in the English manpage, I've
submitted a bug for this too), here is a patch.

The first problem is:

 Package: r-cran-fseries
 Architecture: any
 Depends: r-base-core (>= 2.3.0), r-cran-fbasics (>= 201.10059),
r-cran-fcalendar, r-cran-mgcv (>= 1.1.5), r-cran-vr (>= 7.2.8)

You aren't using the shlibs:Depends substitution in your debian/control
file, so *all* shared library dependencies are missing for the package!

There is a potential collateral problem with having different packages built
against multiple versions of libgfortran because libgfortran doesn't use
versioned symbols, but that's a rather general problem in the archive today
and doesn't have nearly the same priority as getting these packages'
dependencies fixed.

Bug#393630: tasksel: Please update simplified Chinese tasks

2006-10-17 Thread Ming Hua
Package: tasksel
Version: 2.57
Severity: wishlist

Hello tasksel developers,

I would like to have the simplified Chinese (chinese-s) and simplified
Chinese desktop (chinese-s-desktop) tasks updated for etch release.
After the discussion among Chinese users on debian-chinese-gb list (the
discussion thread can be seen starting at [1], in Chinese), I'd like to
ask you to update the two tasks as the attached files.

1.
http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-chinese-gb%40lists.debian.org/msg13644.html

I am also going to give the comments for the diff below for the
rationale of the changes (excluding reordering changes and added
comments):

> --- tasks.orig/chinese-s 2006-10-06 14:39:30.0 -0500

scim-chinese was renamed to scim-pinyin. scim-chinese in etch is just a
dummy package for transition.

> + im-switch

This is for automatic input method support. Two of the three included
input methods, scim and fcitx, supports im-switch.

This is a new bitmap font especially designed for Chinese, and has many
users.

This is a printing support package based on pango, and is reported to
support Chinese quite well.

I checked my DNS and loopback interface; both are working normally. If
there's some special functionality used by gnome-session, let me know
and I can check it.

When I login, I create a new session. I disabled all startup programs,
but the problem persists. Can I remove any other elements from my
session?

Bug#393651: subversion: Problems with psvn.el

2006-10-17 Thread Frank Küster
Package: subversion
Version: 1.4.0-5
Severity: normal

The problems described below also occurr with a the backport from
backports.org, 1.3.2-5~bpo1, within emacs21 from sarge or an
emacs-snapshot backport. Therefore it's likely that this also affects
sarge.

- If I mark a single file with `m', the marked file with a green font
shows up one line above the old place, hiding the file that was above
it before marking, and the unmarked entry is still there. I need to
press `g' to bring things in line again. Marking with `* M' or
  similar doesn't have this effect

- when editing the commit message, there's a problem with line wrapping.
The buffer starts with lines that indicate the files to commit, each
prepended with two # signs, and a short explanation that everything
commented that way will not end up in the log message.

Now, when the message I type below is line-wrapped, the second line is
again started with two ## signs.

The following problem I only observed with the testing version,
backported to sarge:

- Each time after committing, I get an error message 'Unknown action ""
for '. It looks like it first successfully commits, but
then wants to do "something else" and find that there's an empty
  list of tasks left.

  Here's a backtrace:

This has most likely something to do with the metacity theme support change
from 2.14 -> 2.16.

What you could try is install libmetacity-dev from experimental and "apt-get
source compiz". Then remove the 012_metacity-theme-support.patch line from
compiz-0.2.0/debian/patches/series and rebuild using debuild or
dpkg-buildpackage (you may need to run apt-get build-dep compiz first).

That should fix things for experimental metacity. HTH.

Bug#393636: gnat-gps appears to be completely unusable...

2006-10-17 Thread Kevin Brown
Package: gnat-gps
Version: 3.1.3-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Note that I am using the amd64 version, so that may be relevant here. I
haven't tried using the i386 version.

Basically, it seems that gnat-gps is completely unusable. If I open an
existing project (hello.gpr), it acts as if it didn't open anything, and
a second attempt to open the project (or, indeed, to open any file at
all) throws this error:

raised STORAGE_ERROR : s-intman.adb:158 explicit raise"

The above also occurs when I tell it to start with a default project in
any directory and then attempt to open a file.

If I attempt to create a new standalone project with the wizard, gnat-gps
goes into an infinite loop and appears to never come out of it.

The bottom line is that, at least on the amd64 platform, gnat-gps
appears to be completely unusable.

I'll be happy to help debug this however I can, but keep in mind that
I'm rather new to Ada (it's been 15 years or so since I've done anything
with it, and that was only a college course at that).

Bug#334658: m5sums of dvips files

At 04:33 2006-10-17, Frank Küster wrote:

Moshe Yudkowsky <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Ah. Then I expect I should move the dvips directory into /etc/texmf/map and
re-run the appropriate tools?

NACK. I am not yet sure that the changes to
exim4_refresh_gnutls-params will actually fix the issue, and it will
introduce an unnecessary dependency for systems that to not run TLS at
all.

Bug#393657: reportbug dies with "UnicodeDecodeError:" when including a file in the report

2006-10-17 Thread Helge Hafting
Package: reportbug
Version: 3.29.5
Severity: important

I tried to report a bug in "apt", using "reportbug apt"

'reportbug' then wanted to icnlude /etc/apt/sources.list
in the report, which is reasonable. Then this happened:

I can automatically include various information about your apt
configuration in
your bug report. This information may help to diagnose your problem.

May I include your apt configuration (/etc/apt/apt.conf et al)? [Y/n] Y
May I include your /etc/apt/preferences configuration file? [Y/n] Y
May I include your /etc/apt/sources.list configuration file? [Y/n] Y

Now, myx sources.list files contain lots of comments written by
me (in Norwegian, which uses non-ascii letters).
Some are from before I switches to UTF-8, so they are invalid
unicode.

I see no need for reportbug to trip up over some unreadable
*comments* in a file. It really should forward the file
as-is. Note that it is even possible to have file/directory
names that are invalid unicode, so stripping comments
won't help.

Bug#364749: new pgf upstream fixing license problems, nmu prepared

2006-10-17 Thread Norbert Preining
Dear Ohura-san!

Till prepared a new upstream version for pgf which fixes the license
problems and gives complete statements on the license of each file.

Furthemore it fixes the open bug about the wrong pointing arrows.

I took the liberty to prepare a nmu. The changlog gives:
 pgf (1.09-0.1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * NMU
   * new upstream release clearing up license incompatibilities and
fixes the wrong arrow bug (Closes: #343875)
   * include complete license information in copyright file (Closes: #364749)
   * install context support for pgf
   * do not install html version of document as it is not prebuild

I set urgency to medium as this is an RC bug present in etch, even if it
has an etch-ignore tag.

The source and binary packages can be found at
deb http://www.tug.org/texlive/Debian/ check/
deb-src http://www.tug.org/texlive/Debian/ check/

Furthermore, I include AND attach a diff between the two debian
directories and give some comments:

Best wishes

Norbert

close 391515 8.54.dfsg.1-2
thanks

Looks like it's a duplicate of #390875: (ps2pdf segfaults with latex
generated ps) which has recently been fixed. I verified that the
particular instance I reported in #391515 no longer occurs with
8.54.dfsg.1-2.

This is essentially the planned route Debian is taking for its logo (the bug
fix here
is taking a disturbingly long time, but hopefully it will happen soon). There
appears
to be no legal obstacle to this route (if you have legal advice to the contrary,
please share with debian-legal). It appears that aggressive enforcement of
trademarks
for their intended purpose, namely clearly identifying the origin and identity
of a
product, is entirely DFSG-compatible (note the DFSG clause which specifies that
name
change requirements are OK). Restrictions which go beyond the original
function of
trademarks are generally not DFSG-free, but are also unnecessary for trademark
defense.

This is just an FYI matter, as it is really quite off the main topic of the bug.

Indeed, it seems the posix handler works better than I expected, I
reverted that patch and rerun the checks:

Test passed.
PASS: sigsegv1
Test passed.
PASS: sigsegv2
SKIP: stackoverflow1
SKIP: stackoverflow2
==
All 2 tests passed
(2 tests were not run)
==

This is the same result as with the m68k fault handler, so you can drop
this part of the patch.
Probably what had me confused here is that I've seen upstream complete all
tests:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=libsigsegv;ver=2.4-3;arch=m68k;stamp=1159196519

but that's not an immediate issue, I'll look into that later...
Anyway, thanks for reacting so quickly.

bye, Roman

Bug#393653: apt-get update loops, infinite download of the same .pdiff files

2006-10-17 Thread Helge Hafting
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.46
Severity: critical
Tags: security
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Feel free to change severity as fit - "critical" is the highest
but being unable to upgrade or install packages breaks
the whole system as it gets more and more outdated
with time. And of course I don't get security
updates this way either.

"apt-get update" seems to not terminate at all.
It produces output like this:

Get:36 2006-10-14-1418.40.pdiff [30.0kB]
Get:37 2006-10-14-1418.40.pdiff [30.0kB]

Get:49 2006-10-14-1418.40.pdiff [1417B]

Here 2006-10-14-1418.40.pdiff seems to repeat over and over.
Several other names do too - this never stops. apt-get
forever remains at "99% Packages rred."

Theoretically, this might terminate someday. But something is
definitely wrong when "update" takes *much* more time
than the weekly dist-upgrade takes.

Installing single packages with "apt-get" still works sometimes,
but this too becomes impossible as the packages referenced from
my outdated package database no longer exists in the pool.

I can't upgrade to the newer "apt" for example, because
it isn't in the database and "update" fails. "dist-upgrade"
also fail trying to fetch outdated packages.

So I am stuck. Of course, this is the price of using
testing+unstable. I'll try downloading the newest apt
package manually and install it using dpkg.

This version of "apt" is dangerous in that it
1) Gets itself stuck
2) It becomes a ddos attack on the debian servers, if many users starts
unattended "apt-get update" and keep downloading forever.
   apt-get is indeed slow today . . .

thanks

I still have the problem:

Quoting didn't fix the problem.
You should probably declare "errors=0" (line 40) outside the if clause,
so the error variable is properly defined and set.

Cheers,
Michael

By that reasoning, the dependency on drivers could be moved back from
xserver-xorg to xserver-xorg-core. Back to square one.

Bug#393658: boinc-client: Feature Request: logrotation

2006-10-17 Thread Michael Setzer
Package: boinc-client
Version: 5.4.11-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi there,

I think it would be a nice feature to have some sort of a logfile rotation,
maybe using logrotate.

As far as I can see the files stdoutdae.txt and stderrdae.txt are always
growing so it might have sense to rotate them sometimes. Something like

/var/lib/boinc-client/stderrdae.txt /var/lib/boinc-client/stdoutdae.txt {
compress
copytruncate
create 644 boinc boinc
daily
delaycompress
missingok
notifempty
rotate 8
start 0
}

should do the trick.

Regards, Michael
