You're absolutely right, somehow it totally slipped my mind that sbus is
found on some sparc64 boxes too, even though the bug report explicitly
mentions one :-/. That also means that my patch needs fixing, I'll try to
come up with a fixed version tomorrow. Thanks for catching it.

Looks like you are working near limits of 'int' type, and different valid
optimizations could change order of calculation, either causing data
overflow or not. Try using long long instead of int.

The stack trace seems to end at
org.eclipse.jface.bindings.keys.formatting.AbstractKeyFormatter.format(Lorg/eclipse/jface/bindings/keys/KeyStroke;)Ljava/lang/String;+57
, which doesn't execute any native code. So I can exclude any problem
which may occur with the SWT libs.

I would assume that it is an error of your vm. As we do not support
closed source software, you have to contact someone else.

I don't know much sablevm and it is known that kaffe is very slow. And
a new package for kaffe 1.1.7 is not available ATM.

I have good experiences with gcj and cacao, which you should try.

As I don't see any bugs I can solve, I will close this report.

I do not intend to package it. I was approach by Alex Bodnaru a few
weeks ago with the same question, and he expressed willingness to take
over the package. I happily accepted that offer. CC to him.

Perhaps the two of you should co-maintain it? I know Alex Bodnaru

too many packages so I would be more than happy to see the two of you
handling it on your own. :)

The eclipse executeable should be in the eclipse package.
eclipse-platform-gcj is not a stand-alone package
Through the installation of the eclipse package you ensure that you
have everything installed.

If you don't install all eclipse packages, then you will have missing
dependencies in eclipse if you don't install for example the pde
plugins. Eclipse won't work correctly without patching the features.
And even if
it works with patching of the features, I don't think it's a good idea,
because other plugins can depend on the core plugins and then they
will missing some plugins.

@Michael: I really think its a better idea to a have one package, The
current situation caused to much troubles. What do you think?

Stephan Michels.

I'm working on the translation, but I thought this ought to be sent first.
AFAIK, currently if a [EMAIL PROTECTED] translation is added it won't be
selectable.

You mean in countrychooser/shortlist-ca ? This only asks for country, so it
cannot distinguish between Valencian and non-Valencian speaking areas (both in
eastern Spain).

Also, Valencian speakers normaly identify their language as "Valencian", not as
"Catalan". Requiring that they choose Catalan and then select their locale in
a sub-menu might be confusing to some of them.

They're in SVN pending upload. But if you prefer to wait untill they're in sid,
that is alright. I don't think it'll take much.

If I put the jni libraries into separate packages, then I have to
separate the swt java lib too. This is much work and I don't see any
benefit I would gain. Moreover swt wasn't design my the eclipse team
to be apportionable.

I think we should switch to xulrunner. Using firefox for the browser bindings
wasn't very successful and I don't want to install the mozilla browser
only because of the browser bindings.

Hopefully I can try it later with xulrunner.

Bug#286277: acknowledged by developer (Rejected upstream)

2006-04-14 Thread Diego Iastrubni

Hi Denis,

The funny story is that I had that keyboard for one week, about 1 year
ago :)

Anyway, there are layouts with similar keys and different name in the
upstream release (look up for Brother internet keyboard, another submit
from me). IMHO, xorg needs a setup to identify keyboards as "similar"
and by that not duplicating the keyboard definitions.

Debian Bug Tracking System wrote:

Hi,

according to upstream, your layout is similar to scorpius,
so it will not be included.
Thanks for your report.

I understand, and -7 has been uploaded yesterday with a slightly different
fix: /etc/environment is not modified at all in postinst, but in config,
default locale is read from /etc/environment when upgrading from
locales < 2.3.6-5 and from /etc/default/locale otherwise.
A NEWS.Debian file has also been added, but I realize that its wording may
be improved to tell that some applications may still read values from
/etc/environment, will fix it later.
2.3.6-7 is waiting in the NEW queue.

To have the same swt lib into two different packages was not our intention.
It would be good to have one swt lib in the archive, then such things
won't occur.
Is it possible to merge your swt package with our swt package?
Can we resolve the current situation somehow?

Please note that this bug (348147) is not about the cryptsetup

That's interesting. Both 4.1 and 4.2 fail. They generate a ~300 K
preprocessed source file. 4.0 works and generates a 86 MB (!)
preprocessed source file. Is that (and that difference) normal?

Anyway, 4.2 works when I remove -O3 so I'll run that through delta.

In fact, there is no dbus-1 available in unstable. The package name has
changed to libdbus-1-2, and gpsd needs to be rebuilt against this new
package name -- but to do so, the source needs to be updated first to be
able to find the build dependencies. See bug #348318.

Package: fontconfig
Version: 2.3.2-2
Severity: normal

The width of fi and fl ligatures is miscalculated when displaying
justify-aligned text in a DejaVu font in Firefox. This happens with both
DejaVu Sans and DejaVu Serif, but not with other fonts. I believe that this
is a fontconfig bug because it is present when fontconfig and libfontconfig1
2.3.2-2 or later are installed, but not with 2.3.2-1.1.

A simple test case is attached.

Bug#354222: Beagled problems wth evolution

2006-04-14 Thread James Lowes
Just FYI, I was getting this error. I deleted all the *ibex* files
(Evolution cached index) in my .evolution/mail folder. After restarting
beagled a couple of times afterwards, it seemed to work OK from then on.
So perhaps there were some corrupted indices? Might have happened in the
past if you ran out of disk space...

Oh, long long. Right, that works. However, isn't this still a
compiler problem since 4.0/4.1 works? Or can you not rely on it
to work because of optimizations?

Did "--max-children N" work in the first place? I don't

Yes, it is a really bad typo.

It is already fixed in the new version, but it is in the NEW queue, so
it will be fixed as soon it is accepted by the ftpmasters (if it is).

I was looking at the ChangeLog entries of pdnsd and noticed that since
2004-04-02 (which was when pdnsd 1.1.11par-1 has been accepted in
unstable -- according to the pdnsd PTS page) atleast two memory leak
bugs have been fixed.

Does one of the later versions in Debian solve your problem? Or can you
provide some more data (like a forced coredump after running pdnsd for a
while) which I could take a look at to figure out what the problem is?
You will have to build a new pdnsd with a "-g" in CFLAGS after removing
dh_strip from the debain/rules file.

There is only a subset of functions supported, baudrate selection
between 150 and 230400 baud works and modes 6N1,7N1,8N1 are also ok.
But ioctl() and baudrates 75, 460800 doesn't work yet.
 .
In order to compile these modules you need the kernel sources (or the
kernel-headers for the kernel-image packages from Debian). For compile
 instructions look into /usr/share/doc/ark3116-source/README.Debian or
 simply use the module-assistant utility.

It works for me. In fact, I am using fvwm and xterms started from the

fine (same command line arguments). Then, emacs started from one of
those xterm is working too.

I have tried a diff between env of a working xterm and env of a non

Bug#362571: dbconfig-common: wrong permissions for the remote mysql user

2006-04-14 Thread Radu Spineanu
Package: dbconfig-common
Version: 1.8.11
Severity: important

I was trying to debug a problem i had with simba and ended up looking at
this code:

###
### perform a few sanity checks on the data
###

# if dbserver is unset, that means localhost.
if [ -z "$dbc_dbserver" ]; then
# if the server is local, only allow connections from
localhost
dbc_dballow="localhost"
else
# otherwise, only tell the remote database to allow
from us
dbc_dballow=`hostname`
fi

I see two bugs here.

The first one, and the one i am getting: if i tell dbserver to use "localhost"
dbc_dballow gets set to my hostname ("stark"). "Stark" hostname resolves to my
real ip address,
on which, by default, mysql does not listen to.

The second bug: if i would actually write the data to a remote server, that
machine may or may not
be in the same domain name as me (search field in /etc/resolv.conf), so it
should be "hostname -f", or even
better an ip address.

This is how i think the code should look like:

###
### perform a few sanity checks on the data
###

# if dbserver is unset, that means localhost.
if [ -z "$dbc_dbserver" ] || [ "$dbc_dbserver" = "localhost" ];
then
# if the server is local, only allow connections from
localhost
dbc_dballow="localhost"
else
# otherwise, only tell the remote database to allow
from us
dbc_dballow=`hostname -f`
fi

Disabling init scripts is not something we should require of users.

The proper way to deal with this is to _at most_ make it a recommends
instead of depends. If the configuration scripts cannot currently handle
a missing discover currently (which I doubt), then they should be fixed
to fall back to manual configuration if discover is not present.

The best solution of all would be to no longer use discover at all: the
discovery of graphics cards has always been a by-product of discover
rather than its main function.
Its main function is hardware discovery and automatic kernel module
loading with 2.4 and older 2.6 kernels. This function is obsoleted with
recent 2.6 kernels for which udev is the preferred method.

In Debian Installer the only reason we still install discover (discover1
even) is because it is needed for X configuration, but we'd rather drop
discover altogether for 2.6 based installations.

Note that this was more or less confirmed on debian-x earlier [1] although
it was indicated that this does not have high priority. I very much hope
a replacement will be realized in time for Etch though. In the mean time,
recommending discover is acceptable, depending on it is not.

Additional note. Depending on tools used for hardware discovery may not
even be sufficient. If the tools are used in the preinst script, there is
no guarantee that the tools will be unpacked at the time the X preinst
script runs. Even if the tools are only used in postinst there is no
guarantee they will be configured and thus in a usable state.
This is why currently the installer installs mdetect and read-edid
_before_ tasksel is run.

Finally note that xfree in Sarge only suggests the discovery tools.
$ apt-cache depends xserver-xfree86
xserver-xfree86
  Suggests: discover
  Suggests: mdetect
  Suggests: read-edid

Bug#362574: French translation update also fixes wrong encoding declaration

Hi,

The patch in #362574 not only updates the translation, but actually
fixes the contents of fr.po to truly be ISO-8859-15. The current
po/fr.po declares an ISO-8859-15 Content-Type but is really UTF-8, and
 causes broken output.

   Bye,

Bug#362414: abs() returns a negative number & signed types are undefined on overflow

2006-04-14 Thread Petr Salinger
It seems the problem here is "signed types are undefined on overflow".

abs (2083755264 + abs (abs (79364096) - 256))

Let express in hex on 32bit platform:

abs (0x7c339500 + abs (abs (0x4bb) - 0x100))
abs (0x7c339500 + 0x4baff00)
abs (undefined)

Does help to change definition of sum_abs from "int" to "unsigned int" ?

Does help to compile it with "-fwrapv" ?

Strange - I cannot even reproduce the build failure in 1.6 right now.
Let's leave the bug open for a while though in case other people see
it.

I upgraded scrollkeeper and now the help topics are displayed correctly
and I can browse through them but whenever I try to open a help page,
the xml file is sent to firefox which can't display it correctly (see
bugs #360769 and #361326). Is there any workaround for this behaviour?

Bug#362578: ilohamail: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation

2006-04-14 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: ilohamail
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, please remember about the
"podebconf-report-po" utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages. See
its man page for details.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators when
you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf templates
changes (EVEN TYPO CORRECTIONS). Then leave about one week for them to
update their files (several translation teams have a QA process which
requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

Allright, if you don't see a need to comment, I'll just comment myself
and reopen the bug. No problem.

Refusing to install the package on a system that's not currently running
a kernel > 2.6.12 makes it impossible to migrate from lvm1 to lvm2 at
all for users running their /usr and /var on lvm1 already:

Current 2.6 kernels don't support lvm1, so these users are not able to
mount their /usr and /var to be able to install Debian packages at all.
Thus, these users are not able to install lvm2 once they've booted a
recent 2.6 kernel. Thus, they are not able to install the package
*after* booting into 2.6.
Since you make it impossible to install the package *before* booting
into 2.6, these users have no chance to install the package at all.
Thus, they have no chance to migrate at all.

That's why simply refusing to install on systems running too old kernels
is just not acceptable.

If you *need* to refuse to install on systems running kernels <2.6.12
because you would otherwise break things that did work before, you need
to provide a different migration path.
You could, for example, let this package carry an earlier lvm2 version
that supports kernels <2.6.12 and you could provide another (third)
package carrying a recent lvm2 version to close the migration gap.

best regards
   Mario

Description : a flexible indexing system

xindy is an index processor that can be used to generate book-like
indexes for arbitrary document-preparation systems. This includes
systems such as TeX and LaTeX, the roff-family, SGML/XML-based systems
(e.g. HTML) that process some kind of text and generate indexing
information. The kernel system is not fixed to any specific system, but
can be configured to work together with such systems.

In comparison to other index processors xindy has several powerful
features that make it an ideal framework for describing and generating
complex indices, addressing especially international indexing. Have a

Bug#362581: lyx: can't find T1 font Font Metric File for printing or exporting

2006-04-14 Thread Robert E. Riding
Package: lyx
Version: 1.3.6-1.1
Severity: important

When trying to print a document in LyX, whether new or previously created.
This also applies to templates installed with LyX such as the koma-letter2.lyx
template or for instance hollywood.lyx template (these installed in
/usr/share/lyx/templates). It's actually a LaTeX error:
Font T1/cmr/m/n/12_ecrm1200 at 12.0pt not loadable: Metric (TFM) file not
found. Some very simple templates such as letter.lyx will print.

I removed and reinstalled all lyx, latex, and tetex packages I could think
of with no effect. The error message gives a hint to wizards to use
TFtoPL/PLtoTF to fix TFM files but clearly I'm no wizard.

Bug#362414: abs() returns a negative number & signed types are undefined on overflow (fwd)

Bug#362087: fglrx works with 7.0

2006-04-14 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi,

just a quick note: The binary driver in fglrx-driver 8.23.7-1 works fine
with 7.0 if you install it in the right location
(/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers) and make a link
from /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri, as that
path is hardcoded in fgrlx_drv.so.

Greetings,

I'm lowering the bug severity, because it is not exploitable if
register_globals are disabled and it is the default configuration for Debian.

2006-04-14 Thread Teemu Ikonen

The baz-import plugin does not work due to pybaz not being in the depencies:

[The funny thing is though that even after 'apt-get install pybaz', the
above command produces the same error. This is of course a different bug.]

Bug#362588: dvifb: does not respond to pressed keys or mouse

2006-04-14 Thread Manuel Tobias Schiller
Package: dvifb
Version: 1:01.03-11
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When using dvifb on my G3, it will render upper part of the first page
of the dvi file correctly (by upper part I mean the portion that fits
on the screen). Then it will not respond properly to any keys pressed on
the keyboard (i.e. "q" or "??" won't work), only Control-C will work for
quitting dvifb (it would be very bad if that wouldn't work either).
Mouse operation does not work correctly either. (When I press the left
button, nothing happens most of the time, but sometimes, things scroll
to the left. Pressing the right button and moving the mouse allows me to
scroll upwards until all of the page is gone.)

The GPM mouse event repeat type is set to "msc", i.e. MouseSystems
protocol as the dvifb documentation suggests.

If you need further information, I am happy to assist in any way I can.

Kind regards,

Manuel
