Notice that for newer kernels (and i suppose you mean 2.6.12 and up now in
testing/unstable), initrd-tools is obsoleted and replaced by yaird (right now
in the archive, and which works just fine) or initramfs-tools (to be
uploaded). Give yaird a try and tell us what you think of it.

Bug#290920: I think we can remove goats

2005-09-24 Thread Andrew Pollock
retitle 290920 RM: goats -- obsolete
reassign 290920 ftp.debian.org
thanks

I think that given "sticky note" functionality is built into future versions
of GNOME, beyond what this package was intended for, we can probably remove
this package from the archive, given it is orphaned.

regards

Andrew

Bug#329246: mondo: problems not only in comparison mode (also in nuke mode, at least)

2005-09-24 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: mondo
Version: 2.04-6
Followup-For: Bug #329246

I also see the problem that the previous poster mentioned both when I
try to boot with the mindi failsafe kernels and when I try to use my own
compiled kernels.

Furthermore, the problem manifests itself independently if I use
"comparison mode" or "nuke mode".

When I boot with the CD created by mondoarchive, I get loads of warnings
telling me that the initial script (the "init" executable of
mindi-generated boot floppies) can't find grep and, indeed, it doesn't
seem to be on the path (even if invoked manually).

I will try to roll back both mindi and mondo to the versions available
on sarge to see if there is any change in behaviour, but I remember
being able to create one successful backup with it.

Now, I am not so sure that this is a reliable too. I would rank this bug
something way more important than simply "normal".

Thanks for packaging it, Rogério Brito.

Bug#325188: Program versions

2005-09-24 Thread Aaron Johnson

Hi Nobuhiro,
I just upgraded my system and tested the software. Still the same problem.
Flash files crash Firefox. The versions now on my system are:

mozilla-firefox: 1.0.7-1
libflash-mozplugin: 0.4.13-2 (depends libflash0 (= 0.4.13-2))

The frustrating part is that libflash-mozplugin works on my Pentium 4 at
work (with an Intel 82845g graphics chip), but not on my AMD Athlon XP-M
(with a Via Savage graphics chip) at home. Both are fully updated Debian Sid
machines with (mostly) identical software setups. Unfortunately I'm not much
of a programmer to be able to debug the problem. Thanks for your continued
interest in this bug, however. If it is any consolation, Macromedias Flash
player 7 now crashes Firefox on all my computers now that the gcc transition
has occured :S

I just tested this on my system, which I upgraded yesterday. All I
receive is a segmentation fault:

Which isn't necessary. As I had explained in an other e-Mail, the

Bug#329882: apt-get source priorities changed in newer version?

2005-09-24 Thread Graham Williams
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.41
Severity: normal

Since the upgrade of apt (supporting gpg) into unstable, after the
release of 3.1, my local archive no longer works? I've tried tracking
the problem down on and off over the past few weeks but to no
avail. Not sure if this is an apt problem or a problem with my
archive, but it used to work and I don't think I have changed how my
archive is managed (with apt-move).

I've cut my sources.list to just two sources: mine and debian.

I remove a small package from my system:

# apt-get remove most

The following packages will be REMOVED:

Yet when I install it goes to debian, not togaware:

Is there currently a good way to do that? The tdb-tools package seems to
include some tools that aren't present in the samba 3.0.14a source/tdb/
directory, and the makefile only covers building tdbbackup, tdbdump, and
tdbtool (tdbtest and tdbtorture appear to be present in the source, but not
built).

I don't mind building a tdb package out of the samba source tree, but I
don't really know which tools have to be in it.

Bug#329883: emacs-goodies-el: Key binding for wdired not defined in emacs-snapshot

2005-09-24 Thread Sven Joachim

Package: emacs-goodies-el
Version: 24.15-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The key binding for wdired-change-to-wdired-mode ("r" in Dired) is
never defined in emacs-snapshot, even if "wdired-enable" is customized
to "on". The reason is an incompatible Lisp change in Emacs 22 in the
lookup-key function. Now (lookup-key KEYMAP KEY) returns nil if KEY
is not defined in KEYMAP, while in Emacs 21 it returned undefined.

The following patch takes care of the problem:

Bug#329884: packagesearch_2.0.1 (arm,hppa,m68k): FTBFS: internal compiler error: in cp_expr_size, at cp/cp-objcp-common.c:101

2005-09-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: packagesearch
Version: 2.0.1
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS

Hi Benjamin,

In addition to the PIC problem in the shared libraries, packagesearch has
failed to build on hppa with the following error, and will almost certainly
also fail to build on arm and m68k due to the same bug:

[...]

That file is in the package and should have been installed on the system at
the point the postinst ran. It is not a bug of the postinst script that it
assumes this file is already installed on the system; see

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-unpackphase

The only scenarios I can think of in which this type of problem occurs are
ones that involve either a bug in dpkg or something on the system
interfering with files owned by the package management system (deliberately
or accidentally e.g. through filesystem corruption). These are not scenarios
that a regular package's postinst script needs to take into account. I have
tagged this report accordingly.

If you can provide us with a scenario with which to reproduce this problem
which doesn't have these characteristics, please let us know.

Bug#329887: update changes settings

2005-09-24 Thread hungerburg
Package: mpd
Version: 0.11.5-5.1
Severity: normal

On updating mpd, the changes made to the settings file "/etc/mpd.conf"
with a text editor are reverted to the ones, done with the config
utility. So after an update, I have to start "dpkg-reconfigure mpd".

If the install script cannot keep these changes, it should start the
config utility on update (each one, or only if a customization is
detected) or not mess with the config file at all.

thanks,

what the hppa guys tell me. A fix would be greatly appreciated in order to
migrate the new kernels to testing, since the version in testing breaks G5
powerpc64 kernels, not counting assorted security fixes.

Bug#329890: the settings in my.cnf prevent mysqld from starting correctly

2005-09-24 Thread Damián Marqués Lluch

Package: mysql-common
Version: 5.0.12beta-2

I'm running the etch version of Debian. My current server package is:
mysql-server 4.0.24-10
The problem I'm reporting now dates back to the replacement of 'woody'
by 'sarge' and the creation of the 'new' testing version 'etch'. Until
then, the mysql daemon was starting correctly at system startup, but,
after a package upgraded it didn't start anymore. Now I've had a look to
the syslog and mysqld complains about 'old_passwords=1' being an unknown
variable. Then I've edited my.cnf file. The file states that
old_passwords is mainteined for compatibility to other Debian packages
that still use libmysqlclient10 and libmysqlclient12.

I've commented out the line 'old_passwords = 1' in my.cnf and the
server is now starting correctly... however, I don't know any possible
side effects. In my system, libmysqlclient14 version 4.1.11a-4 is
installed, and mysql admin, and mysql query browser are working. But I
have also installed versions of libmysqlclient10 and libmysqlclient12,
and I don't know if some package is using those packages.

For your reference.

Regards,
Damián

Actually, grep *is* on the path, more specifically, in /bin/grep, but
when one calls it, it gives an error, saying that it couldn't be found.

I'm just guessing here, but is this grep supplied by busybox? If yes,
then I think that the version provided by mindi-busybox may be
defective. I have mindi-busybox 1.04-4 installed here, but the version
from testing (1.04-5) also doesn't generate a working backup.

Humm, there's something really strange with this suite of programs right
now. :-(

As far as I know source-only uploads were not possible. (and a sid
chroot needs diskspace I don't have).

Rebuilt is on its way.

Bug#329893: gcc-3.4: M32R libffi update for 3.4.4

2005-09-24 Thread NIIBE Yutaka
Package: gcc-3.4
Version: 3.4.4-8
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

We need a update for M32R's libffi patch, because the one which is
included in Debian gcc-3.4 source package is old. I got update
from M32R's libffi author, Kazuhiro Inaoka.

Could you please apply following patch? It looks big, but only
inherent change is the change of FFI_CLOSURES, others are caused
by source change between 3.4.1 and 3.4.4.
  * debian/patches/m32r-libffi.dpatch: Updated to 3.4.4.

Bug#329894: strutilsxx: rebuild needed for C++ ABI transition

2005-09-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: strutilsxx
Version: 0.7.1-5
Severity: serious
Justification: cannot provide security support for this package because
  rebuilds will change the ABI

Hi Klaus,

The strutilsxx package is a library which exports a C++ ABI, and must
therefore undergo a package rename for the g++ 4.0 ABI transition. It has
now been several months since gcc 4.0 became the default compiler in the
archive; please fix this bug ASAP.

Since strutils has no reverse-dependencies in the archive, I do not intend
to NMU this package, but will instead ask for its removal from unstable if
this bug continues to go unaddressed.

Thanks,

Bug#329896: openclipart-svg: some of the very large cliparts contain something that looks like binary code

2005-09-24 Thread Ernest ter Kuile
Package: openclipart-svg
Version: 0.17+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

For example file crossbones_linda_kim_01.svg contain a
tag that seem destined to adobes svg viewer.

This tag contains a CDATA that certainly is binary data.

fall_coloured_leaf_geral_01.svg is an other one.

to find them I did :
find /usr/share/openclipart/svg -name '*.svg' | xargs -n 1 grep -H
adobe_illustrator_pgf

Not all of them contain CDATA with binary code, but _many_ do.

It is not clear if this data is simply a binary version
of the same svg picture. What is clear thought is that
is increases the size of the picture a great deal.

Simply deleting the above node from crossbones_linda_kim_01.svg
does _not_ change the actual svg picture, but reduces the size
from about 400K to 12K

for your information : openclipart-png _might_ still contain the same binary
code

thank you.

Strange.

No, it wouldn't help.

Enable the test backend, select it when starting xscanimage, then in
the options set the return value from sane_read to SANE_STATUS_INVAL.

Here the error window appears correctly on top of the other windows.

Hello,

I use mutt with msmtp. I have set sendmail as /usr/bin/msmtp and

The msmtp prompt for password is not passed on to me.

The same happens if I use a passphrase encrypted certificate.

I think this may happen becuase mutt does not "give" a tty/pseudo tty
for the $sendmail program.

Regards,

Bug#329902: poxml: dependencies are becoming rediculous

2005-09-24 Thread Frans Pop
Package: poxml
Version: 4:3.4.2-1

In version 3.3.2 the dependencies for poxml were:
libqt3c102-mt, xlibs, libpng12-0, zlib1g

Now they are:
libqt3-mt, xlibs, libaudio2, libfontconfig1, libfreetype6, libpng12-0,
libxcursor1, libxft2, libxinerama1, libxrender1, zlib1g

(I've left out dependencies on libc)

We use poxml for translation of the Installation Guide and having it pull
in this many libraries on build systems is a real pain and causes a lot
of comments and questions from ppl building the installer.

I don't see why poxml should depend on (and certainly not directly) on
audio, fontconfig, freetype and xinerama libraries.

Could you please look into this and try to reduce the dependency tree for
poxml.

TIA,
Frans Pop

modemlights applet was completly rewritten, and i guess authors did not
care much about transition. When GNOME 2.10 was first packaged it was
working (for an initial load at least), and it seems now that the applet
refuses to launch. I need to investigate...

Bug#317418: Updated Sarge package available

2005-09-24 Thread Serge van Ginderachter

I can confirm that the bug is solved with the patch earlier

http://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2005-April/012338.html

I updated the Sarge package - rsync version 2.6.4-6 with it and
testrunned it using the --delete option, which works as expected.

'rsync_2.6.4-6.svg1_i386.deb' and full source can be downloaded here:

http://www.vanginderachter.be/downloads/debian/

I tried to build this package the Debian way, but as my experience with
customising debian packages is very limited, it might be good if some
more people could verify. Also, don't hesitate on giving me any feedback
I could learn from, thanks.

I will further monitor the behavior of rsnapshot, which was broken in
Sarge because of this bug. I expect that problem to be solved now in Sarge.

HTH,

In order to build aspell-bg requires more than 1GB RAM+swap. May be
this is what has caused the problem?

I hoped this won't be a problem for autobuilders because in its new
version aspell-bg has changed its architecture from "any" to "all".
If I was wrong I can change aspell-bg to contain a precompiled
dictionary hash in its source package.

In fact your cpu is supported in recent kernels. Which one are you
building from kernel.org?

right, the problem is just your cpu is too recent for the 2.6.8 kernel
I'm sure at least 2.6.10 supports it, I don't have earlier kernels here
to look into :)

Unfortunately not. The version currently in the archive needs an older API
version of atlas-cpp. I have prepared a new upstream release of cyphesis-cpp
and an older version version of atlas-cpp using a new source package name
(atlas-cpp-0.5). I hope to get this sponsored today. then it only needs to
get through the NEW queue ...

Bug#329910: apt: wrong po files

2005-09-24 Thread Thomas Huriaux
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.41
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

In apt version 0.6.41, po files are wrong. For example:
$ msgfmt --statistics apt-all.pot
0 translated messages, 504 untranslated messages.
$ msgfmt --statistics fr.po
479 translated messages.

To avoid this problem, I suggest you to add update-po as a pre-requisite
of the "binary:" rule in po/makefile.
It will avoid this situation (which is I think the source of the
problem):
day 0: a translator start a new translation based on the current .pot
   file
day 1: .pot file is updated
day 2: translation of the previous .pot is included, but seems to be
newer than the updated .pot file (based on timestamps). With the
current makefile, the po file is not merged with the new .pot.

Regards,

Bug#329911: tclx8.4: 'wait -pgroup' command does never return

2005-09-24 Thread Tilmann Singer
Package: tclx8.4
Version: 0.20050517-1
Severity: normal

The attached test program 'fork.tcl' hangs forever at the wait call when using
tclsh8.4, whereas it returns after a
short time as expected when using tclsh8.3.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ tclsh8.4 /tmp/fork.tcl

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ tclsh8.3 /tmp/fork.tcl

A different test script also emits the warning 'Tcl_FinalizeNotifier: notifier
pipe not
initialized' with tclsh8.4, whereas it works as expected with tclsh8.3:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ tclsh8.4 /tmp/fork-2.tcl

The same test script as fork-2.tcl with a pause in the child process does not
emit that warning but hangs forever:

I am filing this with tclx8.4 since it does not happen with tclx8.3, so I think
it was introduced by this package,
hope that is correct.

Hi,

thanks for your prompt reaction. If it was just a missing dependency,
I'd not filled a grave bug report:

Perhaps it's problem in mono-common, not boo. Anyhow, if you can think
of further tests that would help to isolate the bug, I'd be glad to
run them.

2005-09-24 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: hmake

Hi,

Your package currently can't be installed in sid because it still
depeneds on libgmp3 and that has been renamed to libgmp3c3
because of the C++ ABI transition.

A simple rebuild should take care of this.

2005-09-24 Thread Seph Soliman
Package: hotplug
Version: 0.0.20040329-25
Severity: normal

SynCE packages attempts to check for availability of /dev/ttyUSB0 for
connecting to the PDA (ipaq module), but hotplug does not seem to create
them before calling the hotplug scripts. I am not sure where to place
this bug, but currently the ipaq scripts are completely useless because
they do not output errors into the log from stderr, so errors from
synce-serial-start are completely invisible.

Again, I am sorry if this bug does not belong here, but it just seems
like it, since the ipaq hotplug script is in the hotplug package
(afaik).

Yes, the old PPD will not work with the new version.

If you create a new print queue from scratch, and choose "Lexmark Z43
- CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0-rc1", can you print a test page successfully?
With LogLevel set to debug, what is logged when you try to print the
test page?

Hm, I tend to follw your argmentation here, and in fact I had this as
Suggests in former versions of the package. But then I got a bug report
stating that they should be recommended by inkscape, not only suggested.

So I'm not totally sure what would be the best way to follow here.

I'm sorry to disagree here. The package description states that
libxml-xql-perl is needed by some extensions and the package itself
suggest libxml-xql-perl. I think I won't raise the dependency level,
since libxml-xql-perl is not needed for the core functionality of
inkscape.

I have reported this upstream. This is

[ 1303161 ] Canon BJC-250 output is too light
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1303161&group_id=1537&atid=101537

I'm afraid that Canon do not provide open specifications for their
printers, and as a result the canon driver was reverse engineered.
Its quality on different Canon models varies, and it does not
currently have a maintainer, though work is currently in progress to
support newer PIXMA models. If it's a straightforward change, I think
it's fixable.

Bug#329914: Incorrect handling of autotools files makes a build fail

2005-09-24 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: svn-buildpackage
Version: 0.6.11
Severity: important

I'm using svn-buildpackage to maintain all my Debian packages.
Unfortunately for some of them svn-buildpackage seem to do something
weird with the autotools files (Makefile.am, configure.ac aclocal.m4 etc).
So on a svn-buildpackage run, all the aclocal, automake and autoconf tools
are started automatically to recreate the build files. Unfortunately for
some packages this creates incorrect Makefiles and the build fails. As
I didn't change the Makefile.am or configure.ac myself for the package
the autotools shouldn't be started at all. I guess svn-buildpackage
messes around with the timestamp and this makes the autotools believe
that they have to start. In order to reproduce the bug do the following:

#! /bin/sh
cd /tmp
mkdir test
cd test
apt-get source kdesvn# This is one of my packages in question
svnadmin create repo
svn-inject *.dsc file:///tmp/test/repo
cd kdesvn
svn-buildpackage -rfakeroot -us -uc

This should fail (missing rules for the uic compiler) whereas a
dpkg-source -x *dsc && cd kdesvn-0.5.3 && dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
works as expected.

I guess the only reliable way to create a build directory is, to create
a diff (current working copy against upstream), unpack the original
sources and apply the patch. Just exporting the working copy directory
to build-area doesn't seem to work (at least for me).

Regards,
Michael

Bug#329915: New gconf2 packages lack /usr/lib/GConf/2/

2005-09-24 Thread Remco Schaar
Package: gconf2
Version: 2.10.1-5

Hello,

I think the new packaging of gconf2 is lacking the libraries
in /usr/lib/GConf/2. This is introduced somewhere between 2.10.1-2 and
2.10.1-5. This caused some problems on my system while upgrading
libgsf-gnome-1:

No such file `/usr/lib/GConf/2/libgconfbackend-xml.so'

Failed to load source "xml::/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults": Failed:
Couldn't locate backend module for `xml::/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults'

GConf-ERROR **: file gconftool.c: line 828 (main): assertion failed: (err
== NULL)
aborting...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libgsf-gnome-1.postinst: line 7: 10614 Aborted
  HOME=/root GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=`gconftool-2 --get-default-source`
gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule $SCHEMA_LOCATION/$SCHEMA >/dev/null
dpkg: error processing libgsf-gnome-1 (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 134

This caused libgsf-gnome-1 to fail installing, which rendered a lot of
gnome applications unusable, since they could not load their
configuration from gconf. Looking at the package contents, gconf2
version 2.10.1-2 contains

/usr/lib/GConf/2/libgconfbackend-xml.so

which are nowhere in any of the gconf2 packages of 2.10.1-5. However,
libgconf2-4 version 2.10.1-5 contains

/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/2/libgconfbackend-xml.so

I created a symlink

/usr/lib/GConf/2   ->   /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/2/

which allowed me to upgrade libgsf-gnome-1.

Perhaps this symlink should be in one of the gconf2 packages?

After upgrading libgsf-gnome-1, that package can be reinstalled again
without the symlink present, so this problem may be already be resolved.
Perhaps it can still create problems while upgrading though (i.e. etch
-> sid at the moment)?

If non of the above is still considered a problem, this report might be
helpful for anyone with a similar upgrade-problem.

For the record, I was upgrading libgsf-gnome-1 as follows:

   2005-09-15 22:20:22 upgrade libgsf-1 1.12.2-1 1.12.3-3

according my dpkg.log.

Bug#329917: bash: M-b, M-f, M-u, M-l and others do not works properly with non-English input

2005-09-24 Thread cheusov
Package: bash
Version: 3.0-16
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

M-b, M-f, M-u, M-l and other keys strokes
do not work properly with non-English input
when bash works as an interactive shell.

This is because isalpha, isalnum,... tolower and toupper function
handles correctly only ASCII characters.
Another bug is in that '(char) 255' is passed to all these functions.
Because 'char == signed char', '(char) 255' is treated as -1 which is equal
to EOF constant.
As a result, when working in CP1251 coding system, the russian
charter YA is processed incorrectly. The coding system KOI8-R
is also affected.

The patch below fixes these bugs.
Please forward it to upstream.

Bug#329921: xmms: File browser confused with UTF-8

2005-09-24 Thread Stefan Ott
Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.10+cvs20050809-3
Severity: normal

Hi

I'm having some issues with the xmms file browser when using UTF-8.
Consider the following directory structure:

Folder X
Folder X/a.ogg
Folder Ä
Folder Ä/somefile.ogg
Folder Ä/somedir/

Now, here's what happens:

 - First of all, "Folder Ä" appears as "Folder "
 - Then, trying to get the contents of "Folder X" I get (in the files
lies) "Folder X/a.ogg" and "Folder /somefile.ogg" and (in the
directories list) "Folder /somedir/" (see screenshot).
 - In "Folder /" I see all the files/dirs from ., .., "Folder X" and
   "Folder Ä"
 - If I click ".." in the dir list, the path in the drop-down menu is
not changed, but I do get a list of the parent directory, with "../"
prefixed to each entry (this only seems to happen when I try to get
out of directories which contain files/dirs with special characters
   such as umlauts).

Bug#263979: userv: FTBFS: broken debian/rules

2005-09-24 Thread Roland Stigge
Hi,

Roger Leigh wrote:

Considering that we have 3 more or less different proposals for fixing

soon.

Additional notes:

* I suggest replacing tmp/DEBIAN with ../$t/DEBIAN in the last patch.
* Frank's note doesn't apply: Having /bin/bash available and /bin/sh
being /bin/bash are different things.

bye,

Version 2.22-1 did, 2.22-2 doesn't. So, thanks for the new version.

Bug#329246: (no subject)

2005-09-24 Thread thierry lathuille
Package: mondo
Version: 2.04-6
Severity: grave

I met the same problem with this version of mondo (and the 2.04-5 as well). I
set the severity to grave as it renders the created CD-R unusable.
(Tough I still consider mondo to be reliable, as I've been using it happily
for a long time now.)

The problem seems to come from the bug in busybox that Joey Hess just
signaled : busybox sh sets but does not export PATH

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=329406

He also gives a patch.

Thanks to the maintainers for the past... and future work !

Thierry Lathuille

Did you upgrade gconf2 in the same run, or at least the same day?

Great, you've just broken your system. When something is wrong, you
should downgrade instead of trying fscked up solutions.

Yes, that's the bit that reads the PPD file.

OK. I tried to recreate the problem. In the Print dialogue, I
- created a new printer
- setup printer as Adoble/PostScript Level 2
- Added /usr/share/ppd/hplip/HP-DeskJet_5652-hpijs.ppd as the PPD file

I could select A4, Letter and the other paper sizes without problems.

I didn't see that happen.

Please could you try removing the ~/.gimp-2.2/printrc and creating the
printer again. Does it work this time?

BTW, are you running a mixed testing and unstable system? This might
possibly be the cause of some problems.

Regards,
Roger
