debian-installer on sparc32

2004-07-14 Thread Noèl Köthe
Hello,

I just tested debian-installer in my small sparc machine.

I tried

http://june.voxel.net/~joshk/d-i/images/2004-07-13/sparc32/netboot/boot.img
$mirror/debian/dists/sarge/main/installer-sparc/current/images/sparc32/netboot/boot.img
2004-04-30
$mirror/debian/dists/sid/main/installer-sparc/current/images/sparc32/netboot/boot.img
2004-07-05

but couldn't get it booted:

SPARCstation 20 (1 X 390Z50), No Keyboard
ROM Rev. 2.22, 192 MB memory installed, Serial #3830841.
Ethernet address 0:40:dc:3a:74:39, Host ID: 723a7439.

Power-On SelfTest FAILED ... SIMM Not Installed

Type help for more information
ok boot net
Boot device: /iommu/sbus/[EMAIL PROTECTED],400010/[EMAIL PROTECTED],c0 File and
args:

PROMLIB: obio_ranges 5
bootmem_init: Scan sp_banks, init_bootmem(spfn[427a],bpfn[43c7],mlpfn[8000])

then nothing happens (I waited 15 min).

With the woody image I have no problems to boot the tftpimage
($mirror/debian/dists/woody/main/disks-sparc/current/sun4cdm/tftpboot.img
2002-05-18)

Any idea or anything I can try to get the machine booted with d-i (sorry
no cdrom or floppy available) or can help you with more informations?

thx.

net-1440.img 2002-11-23 test report

2002-11-23 Thread Noèl Köthe
Hello,

just a test report with the net-1440.img from
http://people.debian.org/~tfheen/d-i/images/daily/ from 2002-11-23.

Hardware is a K6-500 with VIA Chipset and an 3Com 905b.
The 3Com 509 isn't supported (module not available) so I had to
change the NIC.

- After booting and step 4 (configure network hardware) I switched
to console 2 and used "modprobe unix" so "kmod: failed to exec..."
doesn't display.
I got this warning from modprobe:

Waring: loading /lib/modules/2.4.19-386/kernel/net/unix/unix.o will
taint the kernel: no license
  See http://www.tux.org/lkml/#export-tainted for tainted modules
NET4: Unix domain sockets 1.0/SMP for Linux Net4.0
Module unix loaded with warnings

- then step 2 (configure the network via DHCP) which worked without and
problem

- then step 3 (finish setting up the Debian installer), choosed http
as protocol, then I got the long list of possible countries with
mirrors. Maybe it should be splitted up into pages.
I choosed 18 (Germany) and 12 (www.uni-koeln.de) and no mirror.

distribution is woody
"Choose the retriever to use." with only one point. Maybe it could be
skipped if there is just one possibility.
Then I got wget 404's because there is no
/dists/woody/main/debian-installer/.. and
/dists/woody/local/dedbian-installer/...

the next menu is the main menu and choosing 3 (finish setting up the
Debian installer) brings me to the retriever menu. Its not possible to
change the distribution. OK I had to reboot the disk and now choosed
sarge.:)
Back to the retriever menu I choosed net-retriever again (nothing else
available) and wget tok the Packages.gz from the mirror but then tried
to get /dists/sarge/local/debian-installer/binary-i386/Packages[|.gz]
which isn't available (404).

- "which packages to install" (the list is to long for one page) I left
without any package choosed.

wget took again some packages without errors.

Then I got the main menu with 12 points and I choosed Partition a hard
drive and got this error:

Prompt: 1 - 12> 1
find: ./proc/1/fd: Permission denied
find: ./proc/2/fd: Permission denied
find: ./proc/3/fd: Permission denied
find: ./proc/4/fd: Permission denied
find: ./proc/5/fd: Permission denied
find: ./proc/6/fd: Permission denied
postinst exited with status 256

I checked dmesg and found out my IDE chipset isn't detected/listed.:(

Any idea whats the problem?

I installed the scsi package for 2.4.19 and loaded ide-scsi and the
VP_IDE is loaded.

Thank you.

Comments/Problems:

I choosed Desktop and it worked without problem, but
- I have to correct the graphic chip selection which said "vesa" but
"ati"
  is the correct one
- LCD wasn't detected correctly:( and I have to configure it correctly.
- GNOME started with gdm but with the ugly old mode and not with the
graphical mode
(maybe its #217250 but maintainer didn't answer since 1 year:()
- /etc/apt/sources.list is configured with "testing". Wouldn't "sarge"
be better?

thx for this great installer!

#584558 LV configured by squeeze installer was not activated by local-top/lvm2

2011-01-03 Thread Noèl Köthe
tags 584558 + confirmed
thanks

Hello,

I installed squeeze from cdrom (d-i installer beta2) i386 with LVM.
On one machine (IBM x306) on a plain sata drive no problem but on
another on (IBM x345) with SCSI and RAID1 I get the described problem
from http://bugs.debian.org/584558 and have to manually activate the
volume group with

(initramfs) lvm vgchange -a y vgname
(initramfs) exit

Would be great if this old bug report could be fixed.

Thank you.
