So I've managed to replicate this by unsetting PWD before running
dpkg-buildpackage. I'm not sure why CURDIR was not used in the first
place… Now waiting to see if that's going better on the buildd side.

Also, I never created those two commits:

First off, thanks for having let us/me know about upcoming uploads, it's
very nice and appreciated.

I'd like to ask you to pause new uploads for a little while, until we
manage to get a d-i release out the door (or give up if that's not
manageable in a reasonable timeframe due to big bad blockers).

6.12.6-1 looks good at this point (just not quite old enough), I might
push it (1-2 days in advance) into testing depending on the state of
other packages, unless you have an objection?

No objection at all and think there are no new RC bugs reported (yet)
against it.

Beeing bit more verbose: I was planning to do the 6.12.7 upload once
it is relased (around 27th of December). The review is announced:
https://lore.kernel.org/stable/20241223155408.598780...@linuxfoundation.org/
but there is nothing urgent I think, so canbe postponed as neede for
the d-i release.

So in short: ok we will pause uploading 6.12.7 and subsequent until
you have had enough time for the d-i release and wait for your ack for
proceeding.

Does this works out?

Regards,
Salvatore

An additional point:
testing with an amd64 netinst image from 2024-12-25 10:15 the graphical mode
is again broken, installer starts in text mode instead.

And despite of the text installer starts as a fallback here, it's somehow
broken
nevertheless, many of the available languages in language chooser list are
broken
(only squares instead of correct characters).

Moreover, even the "native" text mode installer (when choosing "Install" from
installer grub menu) is broken, it only has 22 languages in the language list
(instead of 60 one day before) !

Bug#1091421: KDE: gnome-keyring gets installed by only installing KDE desktop environment

2024-12-25 Thread anon
Package: task-kde-desktop
Version: 3.73
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: vaj...@freemail.hu

Dear Maintainer,

I installed KDE desktop (only that)
I have a kwallet set up, with blank password, so that the keyring wouldn't
prompt me.

   * What led up to the situation?
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   * What was the outcome of this action?
I installed google-chrome, and when I opened it asked me to input my password
(but only chrome).

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Keyring unlock shouldn't have been popped up at all..

Then I scratched my head, of why.. So I launched up a journalctl, and find out
that gnome-keyring was triggering it..

   * Opinions:
Kwallet is a keyring itself, so having gnome-keyring makes confusion just like
in my case, because I was already thinking that I've done my setup correctly
for kwallet, why is it then popping still up, till I found out that a gnome-
component got installed.

Why is the gnome-keyring get installed with KDE desktop?

If this is not the relevant bugreport thread for this, feel free to redirect it
to the relevant package's bugreport thread.

Thank you,
Peter.

AFAICT, those images use d-i daily builds, which are built against sid,
and ship udebs from sid accordingly. They install testing though.

For a trixie-based installer, see you in a few days…

Thanks for the quick fix, Colin!

Just tested the vmlinuz+initrd.gz under dest/cdrom/gtk thing again, with
0.276 cdebconf udebs, and that looks much better indeed.

Bug#1091366: Confusion about sid or trixie (Was: Bug#1091366: debian-installer: No graphical mode in sid)

2024-12-25 Thread Roland Clobus

Hi,

On 25/12/2024 16:01, Holger Wansing wrote:

An additional point:
testing with an amd64 netinst image from 2024-12-25 10:15 the graphical mode

I thought that the daily netinst image [1] is based on testing/trixie,
not on sid (due to its filename). In such case, having bug#1091366
raised to 'serious' would have been sufficient to prevent the issue from
popping up in testing.

The URL to the netinst ISO file (depending on the path you take [1] or
[2]) contains sid, so there is some confusion about whether the image is
based on sid or trixie.

It turns out that the udebs for cdebconf are already at 0.275 in the
testing netinst image. [3]

The daily installer image [4] is also based on sid, as the version from
the cdebconf-udebs shows.

So: I'm confused about the desired content of the daily netinst image.

If all is based on sid/unstable, then it is to be expected that
occasionally something breaks (and for that, e.g. openQA helps). If it
should have been testing, then something is going wrong here.

With kind regards,
Roland Clobus

Oops, very sorry about that! The test that Gioele added for whether
debconf is installed looked correct, but on closer inspection I found
that cdebconf installs /usr/share/debconf/frontend as a symlink to
/usr/lib/cdebconf/debconf. (I'd like to remove that as I don't think it
really makes a lot of sense, but there's a reference to it in
installer/build/Makefile right now.)

This patch makes things work again. I'll upload this, and the
equivalent in debconf.
