Bug#984518: installation-reports: Bullseye installer ok, but system not laoding firmware for Nvidia graphic. Black screen, system bricked.
Package: installation-reports Severity: important Tags: d-i X-Debbugs-Cc: karl-heinz.kuen...@web.de Dear Maintainer, did several tests to install Bullseye Xfce on add. SSD on my Buster system here. First end of 12/2020 with alpha3 installer, then end of 1/2021 and end of 2/2021 with weekly debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso and firmware-testing- amd64-netinst.iso. Last with isos dated 3-1-2021. No issues during installation, reboot -> grub screen -> black screen, system not usable. Not reaction on ALT - STRG - Fx. Changing in grub screen to add. options and selecting recovery mode, last boot messages appear with 'fb0: switching to nouveaufb from EFI VGA' No reaction any more! I did crosschecks by install Buster on that add. SSD without any issues to exclude any issues on bios settings etc. No problem with Buster. And I see this situation now since 12/2020 Did an investigation in German debianforum,de and in forums.debian.net, but neither could verify a similar behavior. Found two way for me to overcome this issue: - Install Buster and upgrade to Bullseye - Install Bullseye, remove Nvidia board, fit old ATI X1550, boot Xfce, add. non-free and contrib to sources and install Nvidia meta package. shut down, swap boards again and system is ok. Here an overview of my desktop system (did that in buster, sda, sdb buster system and buster data, sdc WIN 10, sdd bullseye still 'fresh installed') ~$ inxi -Fz System:Host: nostromo Kernel: 4.19.0-14-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce 4.12.4 Distro: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) Machine: Type: Desktop Mobo: ASUSTeK model: PRIME X370-A v: Rev X.0x serial: UEFI: American Megatrends v: 5602 date: 07/14/2020 CPU: Topology: 6-Core model: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 bits: 64 type: MT MCP L2 cache: 3072 KiB Speed: 1376 MHz min/max: 1550/3400 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 1376 2: 1376 3: 1466 4: 1529 5: 1377 6: 1375 7: 1494 8: 1547 9: 1530 10: 1474 11: 1472 12: 1470 Graphics: Device-1: NVIDIA GP108 driver: nvidia v: 418.181.07 Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.4 driver: nvidia unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, nouveau, vesa resolution: 1680x1050~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GT 1030/PCIe/SSE2 v: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 418.181.07 Audio: Device-1: Conexant Systems CX23887/8 PCIe Broadcast Audio and Video Decoder with 3D Comb driver: cx23885 Device-2: NVIDIA GP108 High Definition Audio driver: snd_hda_intel Device-3: AMD Family 17h HD Audio driver: snd_hda_intel Sound Server: ALSA v: k4.19.0-14-amd64 Network: Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet driver: r8169 IF: enp7s0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full mac: Drives:Local Storage: total: 2.26 TiB used: 245.82 GiB (10.6%) ID-1: /dev/sda vendor: Kingston model: SA400S37120G size: 111.79 GiB ID-2: /dev/sdb vendor: Western Digital model: WD20EZRZ-00Z5HB0 size: 1.82 TiB ID-3: /dev/sdc vendor: Western Digital model: WDS120G2G0A-00JH30 size: 111.80 GiB ID-4: /dev/sdd vendor: Patriot model: Burst size: 223.57 GiB Partition: ID-1: / size: 28.91 GiB used: 16.96 GiB (58.7%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda2 ID-2: /home size: 68.40 GiB used: 5.82 GiB (8.5%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda3 ID-3: swap-1 size: 18.63 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) fs: swap dev: /dev/sdb2 Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 29.4 C mobo: N/A gpu: nvidia temp: 34 C Fan Speeds (RPM): cpu: 0 gpu: nvidia fan: 0% Info: Processes: 259 Uptime: 4m Memory: 15.66 GiB used: 644.2 MiB (4.0%) Shell: bash inxi: 3.0.32 br Karl-Heinz -- Package-specific info: Boot method: USB stick/network Image version: firmware-testing-amd64-netinst.iso weekly 3.1.2021 Date: Machine: Desktop ASUS Prime X370-A AMD Ryzen 5-2600 GeForce GT1030 Partitions: Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [ ] Detect network card:[ ] Configure network: [ ] Detect media: [ ] Load installer modules: [ ] Clock/timezone setup: [ ] User/password setup:[ ] Detect hard drives: [ ] Partition hard drives: [ ] Install base system:[ ] Install tasks: [ ] Install boot loader:[ ] Overall install:[ ] Comments/Problems: -- Please make sure that the hardware-summary log file, and any other installation logs that you think would be useful are attached to this report. Possibly it's a resurgence of a bug we had noticed with arabic https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=929877 Samuel

(So it is already in unstable) manpages-it is in testing now. I have re-added manpages-it to task-italian in tasksel (in git). Tagging #982043 as pending. This also draws a final line at #982035 now. > Please note, that manpages-l10n ships the following languages > currently, so you might check tasksel if it follows suit: > manpages-de > manpages-es > manpages-fr > manpages-it > manpages-mk > manpages-nl > manpages-pl > manpages-bt-BR > manpages-ro Missing in tasksel are currently: manpages-es manpages-mk manpages-nl manpages-bt-BR manpages-ro Are these in a good condition for stable? Should they be added to the respective language tasks? Holger -- Holger Wansing PGP-Fingerprint: 496A C6E8 1442 4B34 8508 3529 59F1 87CA 156E B076

Hi, Samuel Thibault wrote (Wed, 3 Mar 2021 00:43:38 +0100): > I was trying the debian installer in Uyghur to test lowmem levels, and > it seems that it just hangs when asking for user login/password, see the > attached screenshot (obtained by just selecting Uyghur then all default > answers). Running in Arabic however works fine so it doesn't seem to be > a general RtoL-specific issue. I found another situation where it hangs for Uyghur: if you start an installation on a machine having no network connection, it hangs at the point where this dialog should appear: Network configuration method: . From here you can choose to retry DHCP network autoconfiguration (which may succeed if your DHCP server takes a long time to respond) or to configure the network manually. Some DHCP servers require a DHCP hostname to be sent by the client, so you can also choose to retry DHCP network autoconfiguration with a hostname that you provide. . Retry network autoconfiguration Retry network autoconfiguration with a DHCP hostname Configure network manually, ${wifireconf} Do not configure the network at this time However, this dialog does not appear, it hangs forever on a blank screen. So, it's apparently a more wide-spread issue. Holger -- Holger Wansing PGP-Fingerprint: 496A C6E8 1442 4B34 8508 3529 59F1 87CA 156E B076
