No obvious regressions, so no objections.

Bug#939070: removing gnome desktop in tasksel has little or no effect

2019-08-31 Thread Joey Hess
Package: tasksel
Version: 3.54
Severity: normal

I accidentially installed debian 10.0 with gnome rather than xfce, so
after the installation, I re-ran tasksel, unselected gnome, and selected
xfce.

I then rebooted, and it still booted up to gdm3 and on login it
defaulted to gnome shell.

Tasksel probably removed task-gnome-desktop, but many of its
dependencies appeared to still be installed.

(I've since reinstalled the machine with xfce and so can't provide any
more details about its state.)

Bug#939071: 6.4 Load Missing Firmware should mention unpacking zip/tar

2019-08-31 Thread Joey Hess
Source: installation-guide
Severity: normal

I recently had cause to re-read
https://www.debian.org/releases/buster/amd64/ch06s04.en.html
and tried to follow the instructions, and I ended up with a firmware.zip
on a FAT filesystem, which d-i is not able to find firmware in.

The instructions assume that the user will unpack the zip or tarball
they download, but they don't say to do so. There's an implicit
assumption that the user won't consider firmware.zip to be a
firmware file. Also that the user knows how to extract zip files or
tarballs or what any of these file types are.

I guess if I got it wrong, plenty of other users will get it wrong.
